Hi, I'm the anon who's been sending you, mostly, the-Caroline-Forbes-asks over the past few weeks as I continued with TVD-rewatch.I'm finally done with the last season & this was the first time I actually sat through the series finale because back when it aired,I had ran off on a trip so I wouldn't have to watch or hear about it, at least not for a couple of weeks & I avoided ever watching anything from that episode after but yeah, I did eventually come to know what happened because that's impossible to avoid.Anyway, let me tell you,

I'm INFURIATED.There were so many things in that episode that had me screaming!

FIRST, The Sleeping Spell Mythology that turned Elena into a Disney Princess! That was all an eyewash!How did Bonnie even manage to break that damn spell when she was supposed to die if she tried? Was Kai lying or Plec and Williamson couldn't care less about the mythology as long as they could bait that awful triangle one last time?There was NO narrative explanation except that Bonnie finally figured "the witch thing"!!!! Is it supposed to be some kind of a joke!! I always had a bad feeling,going from s6, about Elena's magical coma.Plec had said network pushed them to drag the triangle but she went on to create 500 other triangles as the show went on.They could have killed Elena or sent her off with some human or made it clear she wasn't ending up with either of the Salvatore brothers when Nina left.But no! Instead she used that spell as a plot device to put a PAUSE on that stupid triangle!Elena was human and if she had woken up 60 years in the future after Bonnie's death she would have been an old lady.Delena's human endgame was already a joke!No wonder they turned Stefan into human!

SECOND .The Defan scene! Let's not even get in the whole Damon-you-deserve-everything-and I-deserve-nothing-because-I-turned-you BS because I'm TIRED! But here's what caught my attention

Stefan To Damon: You have quite literally an eternity with Elena!

Quite Literally? QUITE LITERALLY!

Wasn't Elena human at the time and had been so for at least 5 years in TVD's timeline while Damon was a vampire!What did he even mean by "Quite Literally" !!! And,Damon WANTED a Human life with Elena as far as my memory serves! Am I missing something?

THIRD. Stefan to Elena: (paraphrasing) I want you to have an opportunity to get to know the human Damon,the brother who went to civil war...etc,etc

WAIT! Pause! REWIND. Stefan GAVE THE CURE to Damon.He had NO idea whether or not Bonnie was going to break the spell because to HIS KNOWLEDGE and everyone else's She would DIE if she did."I don't know what happened to Bonnie".

Was he secretly hoping Bonnie would die as she destroyed hell and Elena would wake up and BAM! Delena Endgame!

PLUS, Stefan's ACT OF CURING Damon had to be premeditated,right?I mean Stefan had NO CLUE WHEN Elena would wake up."One day when you wake up...". He just ACTIVELY RUINED any chance of a Delena endgame BEFORE telling Elena he wanted her to get to know Human Damon!! Logically,Damon would have grown old and died,or had liver cirrhosis due to excessive drinking & dropped dead or just died in a car crash while driving under influence DECADES BEFORE Elena had woken up. Was Stefan high?

FOURTH.Caroline.Now this is going to be a little controversial.As much as I love SC,I love the characters individually first.And Caroline in the series finale had me confused.She just LEFT her human husband behind!And when Ric told her about Stefan's decision,she just wept and called Stefan & said "I understand". What exactly did she understand?Because I surely didn't!Didn't even ask Ric to turn the car back or anything!She once again used the twins as her escape goat just like she did before. For a while,it felt like I was back in s7.Rremember how majority blamed Stefan while actively choosing to erase the fact Caroline was equally complicit in the breakdown of their relationship?She refused to have anything to do with Stefan even though she knew Stefan was being hunted & die soon.She refused to travel with Stefan.There was no explanation for her actions & Plec weaponised CA's pregnancy to defend her incompetence or lack of willingness to write SC properly and everyone convinced themselves that's what happened.

Just so you know,all of these don't make me love Caroline any less.I am aware she's highly flawed.But there is a difference between showing someone's flaw and turning that character unrecognisable to serve the plot.TVD chose the second.

I could go on and on but it's pointless.I think ,in my experience,this is the WORST series finale I have ever watched. Probably worse than How I Met Your Mother!It's not even about the triangle or SC.Not even Stefan's death.It's the writing! Writing is the backbone of a story,you know! What they delivered is Pedestrian Garbage!

1 – Yeah, one of my biggest frustrations was how freely the writers ignored their own internal rules for the magic systems. They’d tie themselves into knots, then create a loophole or a new spell to undo it. The mythology was tight in the earlier seasons but became loose in the later seasons. This is a problem because the stakes are lowered. Why create rules if you're going to ignore the consequences when the rules become inconvenient?

2 - I’ll be honest I can’t even remember a lot of the Delena stuff in the last season because I just checked out of their story by then. 😂 So, I looked up who took the cure(s) and apparently, Damon took one at the end too?? *sigh* As I’ve complained before – the writers changed Damon’s motivations to suit the plot, rather than change the plot to suit the character. The inconsistent characterization is one of the weaknesses of the show.

Oh, yes. I remember. 😒 I adore Caroline. She's a ray of sunshine. Nevertheless, she wasn't perfect. She contributed to the breakdown of her relationship with Stefan in season 7. Stefan's not a mind-reader.

"I think ,in my experience, this is the WORST series finale I have ever watched. Probably worse than How I Met Your Mother!"

Now, that's an indictment. lol

Honestly, though, the TVD finale was one of the most disappointing finales for me. Nothing is satisfying about a suicidal character sacrificing themselves at the end of a story. Just 🤬

That said, as much as I hate the TVD finale I hate the Merlin finale more. The Merlin finale completely undermined the entire premise of the show.

I finally finished TVD season 6 and The Originals season 2.

The Originals was fun, there was a lot I didn't remember, like Davina becoming the leader of the witches, or the Crescent curse making a comeback. I'm excited for season 3, I liked their first-turned vampires coming back. sadly I will have to wait for Kol's return until halfway through the season, but he's worth it.

TVD was... less fun. the first two-thirds of the season I actually liked. Kai was fun, he was a good villain to have. I'm sad he's dead. why would you make such a good villain, make him basically invincible, and then kill him in .2 seconds?? stupid. I loved Jo, I'm so sad she's gone. I feel like this season tried to do too many storylines, and therefore there was always at least one or two that was completely forgotten about. I'm not too excited about s7, since from what I heard, the show went downhill without Nina, but I only have two seasons left, no way I'm quitting now.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

24 (but 25 will be posted this week, if this smut scene will cooperate)

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

204, 782

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Two — mostly Bellarke, but one Gendrya. I'm hoping to start posting Darklina, Zutara, Helnik, Darknik (Dark Daddy + Nina), and maybe Chenford if I ever escape the hellscape that is my Bellarke prompt list. lol

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Intertwining your soul (with somebody else): Rated E. Canonverse AU where Bellamy is heda. He's supposed to marry Gina to solidify the coalition, but him and Clarke are in love with each other. A fuckton of angst ensues. This is a WIP, only a few chapters shy of being completed! This fic is definitely my baby, so I'm really excited that the response has been so great.

But if this man came up to me: Rated T. Modern AU. Clarke and Bellamy accidentally go TikTok famous... and fall in love in the process.

Darling you and me, we can take the world: Rated E. S7 Spec where they torture Clarke with M-Cap and Bellamy finally breaks. Yk... back when we had hope for a Bellarke endgame for this godforsaken show.

The Choices We Make: Rated M currently, but it'll be E by the end. Greys Anatomy AU. This was my very first WIP posted, and it's on hiatus right now while I write my @t100fic-for-blm prompts. But I still love it and can't wait to be able to dedicate more time to it eventually.

Whatever may come, your heart I will choose: Rated M. The post-S7 AU we all deserved with the perfect dash of angst, a good bit of fluff, and a happy fucking ending. Oh, and a jab or two at Jason for funsies.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I try to! Usually, it's in batches, but some slip through the cracks. But just know that I love every single comment I get, and I am so very happy anyone deigns to read my shit. lol

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably the original ending for @wreck-jroth-club. After some debate with the broader group, I decided to add an extra chapter that was a continuation of the final chapter that actually ended happily. But originally that fic had a very bittersweet ending.

I've flip-flopped a lot on whether to end Intertwining your souls happily or not. But I think @burninghoneyatdusk might actually murder me in my sleep if I don't end it happily, so idk if I'll follow through on that. lol

7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't written one to date, but I do have one planned and on my prompt list! It'll be a Queen of the South/The 100 crossover where Jeresa are... well, Jeresa, and Bellarke are DEA agents trying to take them down. Lots of angst. Some smut. All the pining. Maybe a happy ending, but likely not for one of those ships.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

None. But I also haven't really written anything the Bellarke fandom would consider controversial (read: I've never dared to have Bellarke sleep with anyone else or written their relationship as that messy).

I'm sure it's only a matter of time, though.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, though most of my fics are more T or M. Smut is something I struggle with from a writing perspective, so on prompts that don't require smut, I tend to just fade to black. But my WIPs pretty much all either do or will include smut.

I don't know what kind of smut I write. It's just...smut. Sometimes kinky. Sometimes more vanilla. Always orgasmic for the characters involved. lol

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of, but honestly who knows? A few of my friends have had fics plagiarized or stolen (a couple even within the Bellarke fandom, which seems like a stupid move but bitches out here be bold, ig), so I wouldn't be shocked if a stolen fic of mine lives somewhere.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone has translated one of my fics into Russian for a different fansite, but I think that's it!

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

If you count the @wreck-jroth-club fic collab, yes! And @writetheniteaway and I have a co-written fic prompt coming up for @slyth-princess soon.

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Bellarke is really the only ship I've written fanfic for or been involved in the fandom, but my actual OTP is Cammie/Zach from The Gallagher Girls series.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

My Timeless AU. I'm actually going to take it down and convert it into a Darklina fic. So the idea will live on, but not as Bellarke.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Writing within a canon storyline. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at taking characters and staying true to who they are in canon through my writing.

I am also an ideas person. So outlining plots, coming up with prompts, workshopping plots...those are things I really enjoy and am good at.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have many, but here are the top three. lol

Worldbuilding: You'll notice my larger fics are almost all either canonverse or an AU of an existing show/movie/book — both of which require minimal worldbuilding on my part.

Imagery: I write fic, but I'm a TV writer at heart. If you want beautiful prose that describes what's happening through the character's 5 senses, I am not ya girl. lol

WIPs: Anyone who has ever read any of my shit knows I take a million years to complete anything (and I greatly appreciate everyone who has refrained from beating me with a stick at my sporadic update schedule). I tend to hyperfixate on projects or ideas, and jumping from WIP to WIP to update gets hard.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think there's a place for it, but it has to be done respectfully and for a reason — showing a cultural difference/language barrier, keeping your POV character or your audience in the dark on something being discussed, showing your character's culture/heritage/background (example: When Jane and Abuela argue in Spanish in Jane the Virgin).

But in fic/writing, either you need to work in the translation naturally in the surrounding text, give obvious context clues to the meaning of whatever you've put in the other language, or you need to purposefully not want your audience to know what was being said. If you have to put a footnote with the translation, you're risking taking your readers out of the story.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

First written was Gendrya from Game of Thrones. First published was Belalrke from The 100.

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

We are all caught in the in between (Of what's real and what's a dream?): The @wreck-jroth-club collab fic.

This fic was a labor of love by @sparklyfairymira, myself, and so many writers/creators in the Bellarke fandom. And I'm incredibly proud not only of the way we collaborated in this massive undertaking of brainstorming, organizing, writing, editing, creating moodboards for, and then publishing the 55-chapter fic, but also of the broader story told throughout this collab.

I came up with the premise of the fic; wrote the first chapter, final epilogues, a few of the chapters themselves, and every intro for each chapter; and helped with the overall organization of the collab. It's definitely the best thing I've written, and the fic I'm most proud of so far.

what was your favourite tv show as a kid?

most of my favourite tv shows have disappeared from my memory until I see a clip or throwback video and go OH YEAH

for example apparently I was obsessed with Merlin when I was like 3? I would point and try to explain the plot to my poor parents, but completely forgot all of this until I watched it properly this year and they told me

balamory, in the night garden, nina and the neurons, mister maker are all classic baby shows

when I got older I just didn't really watch tv, and I still don't follow along on any live shows now except maybe constantly refreshing my pirating sites the day after any aos s7 episode

WAIT HORRIBLE HISTORIES HOW COULD I FORGET HORRIBLE HISTORIES

I never watched along while this was being broadcast (see above, don't watch tv regularly) but it turns out when you have close family friends over who are your age, 2 years younger, 4 years younger, 5 years younger and 8 years younger the middle ground is horrible histories

our house has a connected dining/living room with a door in the middle so the adults would eat, chat and drink in the dining room and the kids would get shut in the living room in front of the tv

and let me tell you you have to get really good at choosing episodes that don't have gore while eating dinner (:

Last night, I finished up Angel s5, though calling it “Angel” isn’t really accurate anymore. I have no idea why people see this as the best season of Angel ever, when this show could barely be called “Angel” outside of maybe 4 or 5 episodes.

Anyway, the last episode was the only thing keeping this season from being a complete mistake. But on the whole, I’d still say this season was a M I S T A K E

Where do I start?

The small stuff? Okay, the small stuff.

The small stuff:

Well that puppet episode was...well. It wasn’t quite as second-hand-embarrassment-inducing as I thought it would be. Still somewhat, though.

Wait, is this where the astronaunt vs. cavemen joke came from? And I swear I’ve seen Wesley’s question of “do the astronauts have weapons” somewhere. Or maybe I’ve seen the whole clip of that? Or someone wrote the same dialogue in a comic book?

So Nina and Angel kind of came out of nowhere. Like, for all I didn’t want Cordy/Angel to happen, that relationship still hurts, and it hurts me that they never got to really get to together, or profess their love or anything, because they had so much build-up across the seasons. Meanwhile Nina shows up in one episode, thinks that Angel is handsome, then shows up again 11 episodes later and she and Angel date, and gets in one more episode before Angel her sends her off on vacation

Why didn’t they just swap Lindsey back for Gunn after he told them what he wanted them to know?

On Cordelia calling Eve “Lilah 2.0”: no way. I love scheming, grey-ly moral, somewhat evil women as much as the next person, but Eve is no Lilah Fucking Morgan. Not by a long shot. Hell, she’s less a scheming, grey-ly moral, somewhat evil woman than she is some lackey simply doing what her boyfriend wants with no particular motivations of her own.

Fuck, I’m imaging Lilah in the role, and it’s so much better. Or at least Eve with motivations of her own, which I thought she had for the first 5 episodes -_-

CORDELIA!!!!:

I can’t believe they gave me back Cordelia just to yank her away again. Permanently.

Like, I thought she’d just spend most of the season in a coma, and then maybe come back somewhere near the end for some big last hurrah/finale thing.

That being said, her hair was amazing in that episode

I mean, Cordelia was all around completely amazing, and I was so fucking happy to see her again and everything between her and Angel was perfect.

But that’s also the best hair she’s had since she cut it in season 2.

But then Angel & co. didn't even get to mourn Cordelia, and Angel only mentions her 3 episodes later and the 2nd last episode? Fuck that, Whedon. Fuck that.

I can’t believe AtS s5 ruined Bangel for 42 minutes:

Episode 11 “Damage” is the epitome of what I meant when I said I wanted more crossover between shows, but not this. I Did Not Want This. Same with episode 16 “Shells”. Throughout all these seasons I’ve wanted more characters to crossover, for them to make casual calls to each other and ask for help...and now when I do, it’s just to tell us that Angel has gone over to the dark side.

But it wasn’t as bad as episode 20.

I can’t believe episode 20 “The Girl in Question” managed, for 42 minutes, to simultaneously ruin Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Spike, Angel’s characterization, everything Angel felt about Cordy, Spike’s characterization, Buffy post-s7, and even the little bit I care about Andrew. The only 2 good things to come out of that episode were that it made perfectly clear that Darla/Dru were a thing as much as Angelus/Darla and Angelus/Dru, and all the stuff with Illyria pretending to be Fred stuff, which hurt my heart.

"It's time to move on," Andrew says, as if Angel and Cordelia haven't been falling in love since season 3, or that last season the endpoint of the monk removing Angel's soul was him having sex with Cordelia.

They managed to give me so much anxiety over Buffy’s and Angel’s relationship without ever having Buffy onscreen.

The whole Illyria mess (and Gunn’s treatment):

Wait so first it was Cordy who was a vessel for an ancient evil being that was birthed out of her and eventually killed her, and where everything for the past 4 seasons had been part of that being’s larger plan. And now Fred (the biggest remaining female regular character) is a vessel for an ancient evil that is birthed out of her and kills her, 3 episodes after Cordelia, with all the build-up of the one episode, written by Joss Whedon. What the fuck.

I mean, Illyria is great and all, and Amy Acker plays her brilliantly, but hey, why not have Illyria take over Welsey’s body, and have Fred deal with the man she’s been recently dating becoming an ancient being whom she must teach the ways of the world. Or, if you really want a woman, Eve or Harmony! How about that! How about not killing off your one remaining regular female character!

Also: they should have stuck with Fred/Gunn, not Fred/Wes.

I cried more at that one scene of Gunn pleading with the evil scientist to bring Fred back in exchange for his mind than I did at all of Wesley’s scenes. And also when Gunn sacrificed himself. Probably because a) I was more pissed than sad that they were doing this to Fred (like with Tara) and b) IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN GUNN. It should be Gunn teaching Illyria all the rules of how to live as a human, seeing as they were dating for about a year, as opposed to Fred and Wes, who had about 2 episodes together.

And of course, there is also the whole race thing: sidelining Gunn, making him the guilty party, stabbing him, and making him live in a mystical holding cell getting his heart torn out for days, while Wesley gets revenge and then gets to be the one to teach the immensely powerful ancient being how to live.

Like, for Gunn, there’s also so much so much you could talk about with the intersection with race and a lack of privilege, the way he talks about being “upgraded” by being given all that lawyer-y knowledge, and the opportunities he didn’t have while trying to protect his people on the streets (most of whom were black or non-white), stuff which I’m pretty sure they would have delved into earlier, at least in season 2 when they confronted more race issues. But no, Wesley’s pain is more important.

What the fuck Whedon:

So when Whedon got to focus all his time on one show, did he decide, welp, time to do away with all the main female characters and sideline the one non-white character so that I can focus on all the white men! Oh, and not to mention I can strip the show of all the heart and friendship so that we can watch our heroes slowly slip into despair as everyone around them tell them that they’re the bad guys now!

And let’s keep adding to the white men by replacing Eve with Adam Baldwin and throwing Lindsey back into the mix!

Well, at least Whedon is getting the Firefly crew some jobs

I guess as soon as Spike stopped being the deuteragonist, Wesley took his place, and then the two of them kept switching on and off. I think I overall prefer Spike, actually

Honestly, so much of the problem with this season is Too Much Men, including cutting down so many of the prominent female side characters.

Another large part of the problem with this season is the overall theme. It keeps trying to tell us that things should be straightfoward black and white, good vs. evil, when the earlier seasons of the show have been telling us that no, things are complicated. I mean, way back in my AtS s1 and BtVS s4 review, I liked that the shows paralleled each other in telling us that things aren’t black and white, that there are shades of grey, and that’s where Buffy and Angel need to work. And then there’s the idea in this season that all compromise is inherently evil, which, like, having a “accept nothing but the purest, most ideal of options” attitude is why people on this hellsite are telling users to kill themselves over something they said in ignorance 5 years ago.

The world isn’t black and white, right and wrong. It’s complicated and messy, and this season doesn’t know how to deal with that.

There's also the fact that the showrunners don't seem to know how to write a giant company like Wolfram & Hart trying to do good.

Too Little Too Late:

Angel at least every third episode: I don’t know if what we’re doing is right. I think we should leave Wolfram & Hart.

Other people: what you’re doing at Wolfram & Hart isn’t right. You should leave Wolfram & Hart.

Angel: *does not leave Wolfram & Hart*

Honestly, the show just became so stagnant with all the times the gang thought maybe being at the firm was wrong, and then did absolutely nothing about it.

The reveal in e21 “Power Play” honestly felt like an asspull, seeing as the only lead-up to the reveal came at the end of e19 and one line in e20. Both revelations (Angel’s plan, and Cordy giving Angel the visions (a vision? All the vision power? Who knows, because it’s not explained!)) came way too late. There needed to be something more, and long before that.

Not to mention, leading off of Angel’s sudden change in character at the end of e19 “Time Bomb” (where when he agreed to sell the baby, for a couple of seconds, my brain told me that that was Angelus, not Angel), they suddenly decide it’s time for Spike & Angel to have stupid adventures in Italy and completely ignored Angel’s decision to pretend to be evil.

And then sometimes there are great episodes, like the back-to-back ones of e18 “Origin” and “Time Bomb”, but everything seems self-contained to the episode - the character and emotional development doesn’t go beyond it.

I mean, that Connor episode had me up in a bundle of nerves, hope, sadness, and joy. It was excellent and painful and the Angel & Connor relationship hurts in so many ways but also brings me so much joy.

Except then there was absolutely no fallout from people regaining memories of Connor except for a talk between Angel and Connor, and between Wesley and Illyria. No one else seemed to either remember or care that they suddenly had all these memories of Angel’s son.

But it was lovely to see Connor as a happy, well-adjusted kid who is just full of delight, now that his life isn’t terrible and he didn’t spend most of it being abused, lied to, manipulated, and groomed.

The End:

So the last 6 minutes of episode 21 and all of episode 22 weren’t bad. They didn’t make up for the rest of the season, but they were good.

Oooh, Illyria seems to have crush on Gunn: “Try not to die. You are not unpleasant to my eyes.”

Thank-goodness Gunn lives, at least until the end credits. Probably not beyond that, but still.

Dammit, I’d say I can’t believe Joss stole Angel’s shanshu away at the last moment, but I can totally believe Joss whipped that shanshu prophecy away from Angel in the last fucking episode just to be a dick. And also make it harder for him and Buffy to ever be together. Especially as now the prophecy can only get to apply to Spike.

Anyway, it was a great season finale, but not enough to save the rest of the season.
