So, apparently, there's an actual short story called "A Little Sacrifice" where a Prince falls in love with a real mermaid in The Witcher's universe...
And Netflix is supposed to release an anime called "Sirens of the Deep", where Geralt and Jaskier get involved in the situation.
My question is: will this be happening before or after the events of Season 3?!
Because having a freaking Prince (Radovid) hearing Jaskier's songs, finding them "irresistible", and becoming heavily drawn to him as a result gives off crazy strong Prince/Siren vibes.
And metaphorically speaking, the whole song follows their story arc in Season 3 right down to the "twilit red horizon" (Redania's color is red, so is obviously blood and its association with death and murder...) and the Prince sadly immediately "sinking to darkest night" on his very first attempt to swim.
So, if Jaskier and Geralt had already met a mermaid and a Prince that had fallen in love with each other before the events of Season 3, and Jaskier had already written a whole ballad about it (that Ciri ended up learning) before he met Radovid, I'm thinking his own situation would have felt like such an insanely strong case of déjà vu!
[Note: In the short story, it's the Siren that swaps fin for foot, not the Prince. If the song is about "Sirens of the Deep", this means that either the ending of the short story has been changed...
... or something bad happened as a result of the mermaid's choice, and Jaskier decided to give them a different ending where the Prince attempts to become a mermaid, but finds himself sinking and needing the Siren's help (to embrace him and the choice he made, regardless of its consequences)?]
Otherwise, that means Jaskier composed that ballad with Radovid in mind in Season 3.
And then, on his travels with Geralt, winds up meeting an actual mermaid that fell in love with a freaking Prince - essentially facing the same dilemma he's been going through with Radovid - and probably would be going "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?! Is the world trying to fucking tell me something?! Unbelievable!"
I can already imagine the conversations...
Sh'eenaz: You couldn't possibly understand what it's like to -
Jaskier: Save it! I wrote a fucking song about it! And you know what? It was a pretty good one, too! Filled with plenty of symbolism and poetry... But you two just had to show up and turn it into a literal thing, didn't you? Now, each time people will be singing my song, they'll just believe it's all about Prince Aglobal -
Sh'eenaz: Agloval
Jaskier: Whatever! And forget I had already seduced a Prince with my songs, and been offered to go live with him in a castle before you two even met! Oh! And by the way, my Prince is now the King of Redania - the most powerful nation of the Northern Kingdoms - the only one that might be able to stop the Nilfgaardians! He's way more important than -
Sh'eenaz: So, did you accept?
Jaskier: Accept what?
Sh'eenaz: To give up the life you had before to be with him?
Jaskier: *Forgets all about his rant and lets out a heavy sigh.*. It's complicated... *Hesitates* I think I might have? Especially if Ciri had decided she wanted to go to Redania to unite it with Cintra, and become the Queen she'd always dreamed of becoming... But then, Ciri went missing, the Second War began, he actually did offer to come with me instead, but then his brother was brutally murdered and he was crowned King instead...
Sh'eenaz: So, he was willing to sacrifice his world for you?
Jaskier: I guess... I mean, I think he meant it...
Sh'eenaz: Well, at least you two breathe the same air, and you can both walk... And Geralt's mate, from what I've heard, is a powerful sorceress that knows how to create portals. It's not like you can't quickly travel between your two worlds when you miss your family, thanks to her, and he can't accompany you on those visits at times, too...
Jaskier: ...
Sh'eenaz: ...
Jaskier: Yeah, I think your Prince should definitely follow you at sea. Humans are idiots.
Sh'eenaz: Well, if he does, maybe you could write a ballad about us; make it one where a Prince falls in love with a dashing travelling bard, then chooses to renounce his throne to accompany him on his travels?
Jaskier: Yeah, you wait right here in your *motions at the bay surrounding them* little pond; I'll go see your Prince and either convince him to come here and join you, or grab and throw him right into the sea myself! After that, I've got a King to catch...

My first Helluva Boss OC in my Helluva Boss AU. I think since it would be a long post then it would be divided into volumes. So let’s go!
Tumblr media
VOL. 1. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Rhea Daegarys, previously crown princess of Vardarys (The Great Vardaryan Empire) and current Dragon Empress - ruler of state, protector of the empire and it’s inhabitants. I’ve gone so far that with her I started to do some more world building to Hell and created not only her but a whole new hellish race: Draconicus’/so-called Draconic Imps (which were there from the very beginning of Hell’s creation and were there for long till Lucifer’s fall and which WAS and IS the main dominant power of Hell despite Luci became the King of Hell) and their domain, heavily (and mean HEAVILY) inspired (mostly) by Valyrians, Old Valyrian lore and Dragonlords of ASOIAF universe and other related fictional places that has “the mightiest, most advanced and unstoppable empire/kingdom ever” vibe (Numenor, Atlantis, Fire nation, Asgard, Wakanda, Nilfgaardian Empire and etc.) It’s like a “what if” thing: what if Valyria, it’s population and dragons weren’t erased by the Doom and instead were thriving and existing to the very modern days with evidence of the great, ancient, magnificent past visualised, first of all, by grand and enormous architecture and also unique culture and traditions (most of them are adapted to modern standards) but with modern day features like high technology, TV, malls, shops, hotels, subway of all empire, penthouse apartments, grand central railway station which routes to other hellish rings (and special deeps which also lead to other rings of Hell, which work like Bifrost Bridge from MCU and vast enough to pass a dragon of every size without any problems or harm to creature or it’s rider) and etc.
What if there was similar analogue to Valyrian civilisation/race in Helluva Boss Hell world.
Yeah, it’s like a mix of a fictional fantasy land with highly advanced modern day megapolis. All in all, I imagine Vardarys (The Great Vardaryan Empire) like modern day Valyria (which even in ancient times already was a world dominant, highly advanced civilisation) with Wakandan high (nearly sci-fi) technologies which ahead the rest of Hell (and of course with a presence of a super metal — local analogue of Vibranium and Valyrian steel) and a thing such as invisible protective shield that cover all of imperial territory and make it a pretty isolated place cause besides native race not so many representatives of other hellish races are allowed to live here (Valyria was isolated too by the way, even without special protection):
Tumblr media
The main aesthetic (first of all, in architecture) is obvious
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The uniqueness of territory in which Vardarys locates explained by the border between Wrath ring which has big amount of volcanoes and canyons with vast spaces (the best environment for fire-breathing, flying creatures which can grow colossal in size) and rich soil (thanks to the same volcanic activity) that makes Wrath the main ring of Hell in economy and agriculture
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Gluttony ring which has tropical climate and environment to help to damp up the dryness of Wrath and grow any kinds of tropical plants, which also need the big amount of water to grow. The border between these two rings creates a place that mixed the best traits of these rings in climatic and geological sense of the environment (the same as Valyria which despite being volcanic peninsula also had tropical humid climate and was affordable enough to grow green without any problems)
Like that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That was the geographic, ethnic, geological and climatic volume part of this hellborn race/civilisation.
The next volume will be about racial/physical/biological Draconicus’/so-called Draconic Imps differences from other hellborn races and mostly Imps.

my brain has fucking latched onto the idea that Nilfgaard was founded primarily by The Lost Roman Legion (and later mutal absorbtion with norsemen), hence the mutated latin loan words. So lots of professional soliders, not a lot of farmers. That's why they made nice(r) with the natives than other conjunctuoned societies: they needed the natives to farm since they literally could not.
They defeated monsters through main force because the silver thing wasn't known/communicated yet. This is a trade that forms some social underpinninngs of Nilfgaard outlook on military/non humans: lives for lives. You spend your lives keep us alive and we'll spend our lives keeping you alive.
A lot of knowledge from that time was lost, military tactics survived. Baby Emhyr was a total fucking geek for it though. He dreamed of someday finding The Legion's Eagle (the last survivors of the legion burried it Gengis Kahn style). Just, very star eyes ickle Emhyr.
wow that's a really cool theory and also opened up a wikipedia history wormhole i'll divebomb into in my downtime! it sure jives with the very pragmatic vibes nilfgaard has. who knows, perhaps in retirement, Emhyr sets out on a quest to find the lost Eagle, National Treasure style. such a geek. and since the nilfgaardian military can handle monsters on their own, at least geralt will have something to do in his own retirement (keeping emhyr from dying lol)

The mob Boss au?
mob boss au
ok so i’m tagging @kuwdora bc i was supposed to answer her ask from The WIP Game from idk years ago probably, BUT
mob boss au
so: modern with magic setting, 1930’s prohibition era, film noir style gangster au feat betrayal, gun running, vicious retaliation, iorveth as a femme fatale, you know, all the good stuff
Foltest is from one of the big old style mob families, but he’s been taking it in a new direction, divorcing himself from his father’s legacy. Roche is his best enforcer, hired on as a teen when Roche took out the pimp who ran the brothel his mum worked at, and was brought in for discipline and then kept. Foltest can use that kind of fire and spark. point it somewhere useful and who knows what might happen.
the Blue Stripes are Roche’s personal crew, built out of a gang of orphans and other street rats Baker St Irregulars style, and absorbed into his family structure. any time Foltest puts out a hit on someone with a family, any kids gets adopted into Foltest’s family to show them what real loyalty looks like.
the Scoia’tael are a much older gang, built out of the remnants of old neighbors and the old Aen Seidhe residents of the city, and worked more along the lines of a local militia protecting their neighborhood and running off intruders, until these new gangs started vying for territory, the Temerians and the Nilfgaardians and such. more mutual aid, if not entirely altruistic
bc all of this is heavily inspired by the Irish mob, there’s also a through line of religious discrimination— Roche is fantasy!Catholic and had guiltily buried his mothers practices for the sake of his boss/lover. his patron saint is fantasy!St Jude, saint of lost causes and things despaired of. Foltest is fantasy!Protestant and negligibly that at best, and doesn’t understand all this superstitious nonsense. Iorveth was forced into the equivalent of a residential school and had fantasy!Catholicism ground as salt into his wounds, and is (understandably) bitter about it.
Tumblr media
Geralt is a well intentioned cop, working for Emhyr, the chief of police and fighting against a system designed to fuck him over.
Saskia is the bright eyed new District Attorney who’s putting in a bid for mayor of the city, working with the Scoia’tael to clean up the streets, ruining Foltest’s plans, and also still a dragon
this is Mostly Vibes, Partially Plot, but there are some words about it, and more on the back burner bc i fucking love an overly complicated au lol
violence and gun kink snippet:
also this all started bc i put roche in a funny hat and the KM discord took off with it, which is where most of my ideas come from

His Royal Highness Prince Iorveth of the Free State of the Pontar Valley? Okay, but what about prince-consort Vernon Roche of Nilfgaard? How will they negotiate?
They … wouldn’t?
Like. First of all. Roche is a disgraced, commonborn foreign national plausibly implicated in the murder of King Henselt and, depending on where you set the timeline, also of King Radovid. At the end of Witcher II, he has literally nothing to his name. Crowning him Prince Consort of Nilfgaard not only yields no wealth or alliances, it is political suicide.
If we ignore that it makes no sense for the emperor to marry Roche, which is, to be clear, a fucking lot to ignore, then my answer is that Iorveth has no interest in negotiating with quislings and hypocrites. Roche will condemn Northern elves for fighting under the Vrihedd and Black Sun banners but Roche himself is just rolling over for the emperor these days? Fuck off! (The fact that he can’t tell Roche to fuck off because the Free State can in no way afford to offend Nilfgaard quickly becomes a source of deep, boiling resentment.) He remains icily within the bounds of politeness for diplomatic reasons but Saskia takes care of negotiations and tries to let Iorveth excuse himself as much as possible, the same way she handles Dol Blathanna.
(You can’t even get hatesex out of this scenario. Iorveth isn’t gonna fuck the consort of Emhyr var Emreis or of Geralt’s daughter. The first because cuckolding Emhyr is a suicidally bad idea. The second because it’s weird, and Ciri might mind less than Emhyr would but the optics would be bad for her if they were caught, and Iorveth is indebted enough to Geralt to at least not want to make things awkward for Ciri.)
If this is like, very AU and Roche was, idk, raised as Emhyr’s pet instead of Foltest’s or something, this … still doesn’t work because Roche is then Iorveth’s ally right up until the Peace of Cintra and the execution of the Vrihedd officers. At this point, if Roche doesn’t try to intervene — which I cannot imagine him doing, he would have no power to alter the decision and he’s not the type to break from the pack when given distasteful orders — the relationship is over. Iorveth never forgives that. He does not forgive Francesca and he would not forgive Roche.
Affiliation with Nilfgaard being a dealbreaker for Iorveth could be gotten around by making Roche consort of a different country, but I gotta say I’m not all that interested in royal!Roche in any scenario. princeveth probably kinda makes it look like I just like royal versions of characters but I don’t care about the royalty part of royalty AUs, I care about the power differentials they introduce. I mean everyone is allowed to get whatever they want out of princeveth but for ME the thing is that Iorveth and Roche are perfect equals in canon, right down to having equivalent ranks — or at least they are during the Second Nilfgaardian War and after Foltest’s death; the power dynamic is skewed in Roche’s favor during the time period where Iorveth has lost Nilfgaard’s backing but Roche can still draw fully on Temeria’s resources and military power — and princeveth is about what if they were not equals anymore. Introducing Roche as Iorveth’s social equal, from a country with more military power than the Free State (this is true of almost any country you could make Roche consort of, not just Nilfgaard), is just ... reinstating the canonical power balance but now instead of getting out the knives and fucking nasty against a tree about it they have to perform Social Niceties at each other. A completely different vibe, and one pretty much out of my wheelhouse!

Hey there, in case you weren't aware, the insulting messages you've received recently are from a known troll in the Witcher fandom. She's recently expanded from her usual targets to start attacking anyone who makes any sort of Nilfgaardian OCs. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by replying to her, I recommend you block and ignore any further messages. (And keep on making and enjoying your wonderful OC content ❤️)
Ah!! Good to know, thank you so much <3 Plenty ppl reached out to let me know we vibing out here except for that one person, so I'll just *pretend I do not see*.
Also, thank you so much! I will try to serve you all my silly little OC!!

do it for the process - a naked vid draft: What (Yennefer of Vengerberg)
Sooooo does anyone want to see a fanvid come together? I haven't done a naked vid draft in awhile. I used to keep a vid diary for certain projects I'd share on my livejournal, but when I'm in the zone I vid so fast that it's hard to keep updated. I have enough done to share this project in a few lump updates. I have no idea if this is going to be of interest to anyone but ehhh happy scrolling if not. Welcome friends and mutuals and curious folks who want to see me shuffle clips into a pleasing order to some awesome beats.
This vid is for The Witcher Netflix because that's my default right now. Made it in two days because my brain is on sad fire and I've needed the distraction. So here we go. I love Yennefer of Vengerberg a lottttttttt. Song choice I thought maybe doing a sad Yen vid would be cathartic but I don't want to wallow in the sads right now. So I started looking for songs with a "fuck you" attitude. My brain is all over the place and I did a tour of my old iTunes library. In my brain's wheezing desperation for creative juices, I've latched onto a 20 year old hip-hop track. It's been giving me the right kind of vibes and fun lyrics that I can twist for stuff that happens when Yen goes on the run and fucks everyone up. So this Yen season 2 vid is to Eve's 2002 song "What?" featuring Truth Hurts. I don't do color a lot of color correcting until the end so if you follow along that's something you should know, heh. Verse 1 and proof of concept: Mad dash just dropping clips on the timeline to make sure that what I was hearing could be validated with a few choice clips and hot it worked with the beat. This part of the process is really an intuitive thing for me. Overall I could "see" the whole vid for season 2 Yen in my head, but there's still a lot of small changes I make throughout. I'll even post a comparison snippet, too. Vidding is a lot of watching and rewatching and fussing and being nitpicky. I love it. 00:06 - 00:29 - verse 1 + chorus 1
[Verse 1: Eve] You can love Eve, hate Eve, I don't care Cop my shit, dog, play this here Come through, ride out, bitch like me Stomped out you little flames ever so politely, it's me I love the juxtaposition of Geralt's tenderness and the sword, and Yen being absolutely done with both Geralt and Fringilla. And of course Stregobor is a bitch, so fuck him. Stomping out the flames is obviously about the dead Nilfgaardians at Sodden. I love the shot of the field because of the bodies but at the time I put this here I wasn't sure it was easy enough to see and know it's the field of dead bodies since it goes kind of fast. But it's all about getting it down first, thinking more later.
Chorus 1!! this part I knew I was going to change things but I like what's going on with these lyrics and the musicality of the singer.
[Chorus: Truth Hurts] You know what this is, got the crowd like WHAT! Ain't a bitch alive that can take my WHAT! This time when I come, it's gone be like WHAT! It ain't hard to tell you just been done With the change in the singer, Truth Hurts' voice is amaaazing. I like playing with the internal movement of Yen waking up in Voleth Meir's hut. And putting Jaskier on the 'bitch' line made me laugh (but I actually have a much better place for those shots.)
And here's what my timeline looks liker right now. Lots of blank space.
Tumblr media
Alright, that's the opening of this Yen vid! An off-the-cuffs project made in 48 hours. Going to upload and write about the other snippets tonight and tomorrow morning. wheeee, vidding!
PART 2: naked vid draft - jumping to verse 3 and the end of the vid!

so i've seen you post about alaria a few times now and i was wondering whether you felt like telling us a bit more about her?? 👀👀
wait anon this made me feel so giddy 😭 thank you so much for asking, my heart is so full rn <3<3<3<3<3<3
Tumblr media
ok so her full name is Alaria Otovaan Varis and she’s a 501 (this number was a joke at first but not anymore lmao) year old Nilfgaardian sorceress. i’ve been building her for a few months now but she already existed in my head for a least 3 to 4 years and now she’s my most developed OC ❤️
she’s a patriot through and through BEFORE her redemption arc, meaning she would do anything for the empire. she was born in the Lower Alba, the heart of the empire, making her a “real” Nilfgaardian, unlike, say, Cahir, who is not considered a real Nilfgaardian. I tried to make her entire existence canon compliant even though I still haven’t finished the books but (and this is me summing things up) she comes from a family with a relevant social status and, like most sorceresses, was abused (by her mother, which not only destroyed her self worth but also made her extremely wary of mother figures throughout her entire adult life. she developed some sort of aversion to anything connected to motherhood even though she still cares about children; her redemption arc also revolves around her embracing her more caring side, since she is a woman who loves with her whole heart and wears her heart on her sleeve, against her better judgment) as a child. i guess you could say her “villain” (it’s more nuanced than that) origin story begins after she burns her own house to the ground, after a particularly unpleasant episode with her mother, and is taken to the Academy.
she “graduated” top of her class in the Imperial Magic Academy; specialised in the forbidden arts and pyrokinesis (fire magic) and became a professor at the same academy. she was a professor for a very long time (which awakened her more nurturing side; she loves her students and would d word for them) but moved away from it when she decided to pursue what she thinks is her true calling, i.e. her research regarding using the forbidden arts (such as necromancy) to fully heal people.
i have. like. a whole document full of information about her (what she values most in people/what she dislikes the most; her fears; her desires; what she likes/hates about herself etc) but i will not info-dump bc that would definitely be too much 😭 right now i’m focusing on her relationships, platonic and romantic, which, depending on who we’re talking about (she cares for both keira metz and philippa eilhart romantically), have either helped her grow or made her feel extremely frustrated and low-key heartbroken. I don’t want her existence to revolve around her love interests though so she’s very much still her own person with her own goals and secrets. some other sorceresses also gave her a taste of what it means to not be alone for the first time in her life as they became her friends. I think about her everyday 😌👍
if you have any, like, specific questions abt her i would be more than happy to talk about it. I just have SOOO much that it’s kind of hard to come up with a short reply which is why I’m trying really hard not to info-dump rn 😔
here are some words that i use to describe her
brutal; passionate; callous (before redemption arc. she just has no idea how to navigate her emotions overall, meaning she can't find the strength to take other people's feelings into account when she's battling her own demons); critical; demanding (when it comes to herself); disillusioned; guarded; hard (before); intimidating all of the time and charming most of the time; lustful (but not in a bad way, she just knows what she wants); fair; mistrusting; over-thinker; proud; sarcastic; uptight; vengeful to anyone who crosses her; loyal; mannerly; elegant; tender (after redemption arc); caring; protective; patriotic to a fault

@crowntipped feat. Rita
“You have to promise me. Promise you won’t say a word. Not to anyone. Promise me, Margarita!”
There’s an undertone of panic in Assire’s voice, and she knows it. She knows it, and she doesn’t care, momentarily lost against the onslaught of the emotion. Her hands are clutching Rita’s wrists, her eyes bright, full of fear, but there’s something else there, too. Defiance.
“As far as anyone knows, I’m dead. And I need it to stay that way. If word of my survival spreads to Nilfgaardian ears... “
She collects herself, releases Rita’s hands, crosses her arms over her chest. Assire’s gaze wanders, affixes to something far away, her face once more inscrutable.
“When I die, when I really die... I want to go peacefully. I want my death to be my own, not just another thing that’s taken away from me. And I don’t plan on dying anytime soon. I’ve never asked a single thing of you, Margarita. I will likely never ask you for anything again. Just grant me this. Keep my secret safe.”

deleted scenes time
hot news: the next chapter of WAR STORY is drafted its some hot new drama and is for sure dropping this weekend but meanwhile feel free to consider this scene i cut from it b/c i didn’t hate it on its own but still thought it ruined the vibe:
````
Daylight was something of an exaggeration; the sun was out, somewhere, but the light didn’t seem to get through the constant drizzle and fog or the hanging moss that hung off the dripping early spring tree branches overhead. Reynard brushed some of the mud off his borrowed armor, checked his second-hand weapons for rust. A buzz of pre-mission nervous energy seemed to have taken over the camp; he did his best to ignore it, considered, vaguely, that his hair was getting too long and it might prevent the Nilfgaardians from recognizing him, and, as he decided that there was no fixing the problem in the next hour, Meve appeared. The mood in the camp seemed to be affecting her, he noticed; she had a strange expression on her face. “We can’t use you as bait. One lucky shot with a crossbow’s all it would take,” she said, without preamble. He saw Hal coming his way in the near distance; the other man caught his slight head shake and veered off to hang nonchalantly in the background, looking up at the sky. “I have my reasons, which I believe I have already explained,” he said. She almost rolled her eyes at him. “If things go wrong -” “- then we won’t have to worry about any of this anymore,” he finished. “Probably.” “If I could order you not to go, I would.” He smiled at her defeated glare. If a few hundred people weren’t around, he thought he might have kissed her; instead, he carefully sheathed his definitely rust-free sword. “I know,” he said, catching Hal’s eye. The knight made the few dozen yards between them with a rapid stride, reported, officiously, that everything was ready. “Good,” Reynard said, added, as Hal marched off and Meve’s unhappy scowl returned, “I’ll see you in a while.” “Be careful, Reynard.” “I always am.”
world building cause twn doesn't part 4: elves!
everyone loves elves! they're a fantasy genre mainstay, archery is so sexy, and they have those E A R S. plus, they play a pretty important part in the witcher universe!
series masterpost
colour code cause i fucking love colour codes - already happened/introduced, probably s2, important background info, stuff that might be in the prequel, extras
background
i'd recommend going through the last parts, or at least the tl;dr's first
elves arrived on the continent about 2000 years before humans, and are divided into 5 distinct cultures of varying importance: aen undod, aen elle, aen seidhe, black seidhe, and aen woedde
elves only came to the continent in one group, but not all of that group stayed. the different branches based on where they settled make up the different cultures
the main two languages in the witcher are common speech and elder speech (aka hen llinge), the former used by most humans and the latter used by the elder races
aen undod
the aen undod are the oldest elven culture, having existed years before the conjunction of spheres
their home world faced some huge catastrophe, so the aen undod left in search of new worlds, leaving their descendants to become all the future elven cultures.
the aen undod spoke the oldest dialect of elder speech, laith aen undod, or one speech
aen elle
the aen elle use a language derived from hen llinge called ellylon, in which their name means "of the alders"
they don't actually live on the continent, having abandoned it years ago for their own world.
however, when the aen elle arrived in this new world, it was already populated by humans and unicorns. unfortunately, these elves are notoriously ruthless and both the native species were eradicated.
the capital of the aen elle world is tir ná lia, and is described as stunningly beautiful, featuring open air buildings made of marble, alabaster, and malachite. here it is in the third witcher video game, by djkovrik on nexus. their screenshots are amazing btw.
Tumblr media
[ID: screenshot from wild hunt showing tir ná lia. the city is built on cliffs above a sea, there are waterfalls falling from the cliffs and bridges connecting them. there are mountains in the background and the buildings are fairly small and out of focus, they seem to be in the gothic revival style with ornate windows and steeped roofs. end ID]
the ruler of the aen elle was auberon muircetach, king of the alders and aen saevherne (aen saevherne is the honorary title of an elven mage who has extensive knowledge of magic, geneology, history, and many other subjects). auberon was also ciri's 5 times great grandfather. this gwent card pretty much sums up his vibe: scary yet sexy.
Tumblr media
[ID: illustration of elven man with long white hair on a brown horse. he has defined cheekbones and facial features and is wearing a gold crown and blue robes with a red sash, gold belt, and leather boots. he is holding a white unicorn head in one hand. the unicorn's horn is cut off, and is bloody around its neck and where its horn was. end ID]
auberon's consort was another aen elle named shiadhal, with whom he had one daughter, lara dorren. lara is so so so important for the witcher, as she is the beginning of the elder blood, or hen ichaer.
hen ichaer is a gene that carries incredibly powerful magic, and those who have it are usually sources. i talk more abt this in part 3.
for better or for worse, lara dorren fell in love with a human sorcerer, cregennan of lod, and left tir ná lia for him. auberon took this as cregennan "stealing" his daughter and therefore the hen ichaer, and developed a pretty hefty vengeance and dedication to "take back" what was his (yikes).
this also set a precedent of people "claiming" the lives of carriers of the hen ichaer
auberon also formed an elven cavalry known as the red riders or wild hunt (dearg ruadhri in ellylon) and he appointed eredin bréacc glas as their commander. the initial purpose of the wild hunt was to travel to different worlds and capture slaves for tir ná lia, although they later became auberon's tool to find and exploit carriers of hen ichaer.
the wild hunt also uses specially trained mages known as navigators to open portals to other worlds, the most notable of these navigators is caranthir ar-feiniel, who doubled as one of eredin's most trusted men.
the aen elle also live a pretty long time, average is around 650 years, so the timelines are kinda hard to keep track of.
notable aen elle include: auberon muircetach, shiadhal, lara dorren, eredin breácc glas, crevan espane aep caomhan macha (aka avallac'h, also an aen saevherne and lara dorren's ex), caranthir ar-feiniel (also avallac'h's foster son), ge'els (the viceroy of tir ná lia), and imlerith (general of the wild hunt)
aen seidhe
put simply, the aen seidhe are the elves that did not leave when the aen elle did
the aen seidhe don't really have a society like the aen elle, they're pretty dispersed across the world. but, there are certain areas the aen seidhe have claimed as their own.
one of these little civilizations is dol blathanna, also known as the valley of flowers. unfortunately, it's not an independent state, as it was conquered by aedirn in the 1150s. however, then-king baldwin thyssen did allow the elves to retain a lot of their cultural identity and live in peace.
dol blathanna includes the village posada and the capital silver towers, which is where filavandrel aén findháil is from. he's that sexy man right there
not that anyone cares, but here's him in the hexer. it's not important to the lore or twn it's just fuckin funny
[ID: old man with white frizzy wig. he is wearing a headband that appears to be rocks on a string. he has what looks like a potato sack tied around his shoulders over a green tunic. he is scowling. end ID]
outside of dol blathanna, there aren't really any places where elves can live with minimal human interaction, although the blue mountains are home to a few incredibly powerful elves
side note: dol blathanna is technically part of the blue mountains, but is in the far southern foothills so they're usually treated as separate entities.
the blue mountains are also a natural border dividing the northern kingdoms from the far east, and where filavandrel went to live after he got fed up with dol blathanna.
they're also the home of ida emean aep sivney, who's also an aen saevherne and future member of the lodge of sorceresses.
next season, we're going to meet the beautiful elven sorceress francesca findabair, also known as enid an gleanna (hen llinge for daisy of the valley)
here she is with fringilla vigo (nilfgaardian sorceress) in twn season 2. note that enid is preggers! that's very odd and i will go into detail on it later
enid is crazy interesting and important for the story of the witcher (and confirmed for season two!), so i won't go too in depth about her now
as i mentioned in part 2, nilfgaard tends to favour elves, leading to a lot of militaristic forces allied with nilfgaard. most notably, the scoia'tael, or squirrels. the scoia'tael are an incredibly ruthless and effective nonhuman guerilla force, generally divided into commandos, units that patrol a given area and eliminate the northern (or simply human) threat.
there are a lot of scoia'tael, so i'll just give you the commanders for now: angus bri cri, coinneach dá reo, iorveth, isengrim faoiltiarna, riordain, and toruviel.
you might remember toruviel as this sexy angry lady from twn, and she is possibly going to get a much bigger role later... pay attention to toruviel.
the scoia'tael were very well organized, but also quite dispersed, so when nilfgaard needed more specific tasks done, they would assemble specific military units (usually led by some of our favourite squirrels)
the vrihedd brigade was the most important of these units. they were especially notorious for their cruelty in the second northern war, so i'm sure we'll meet at least a few members next season.
their leader was colonel isengrim faoiltiarna (aka the iron wolf), and his officers coinneach, iorveth, riordain, and angus.
francesca findabair is not directly involved with either the scoia'tael or the vrihedd brigade, but she does work quite closely with them very often.
also important to note that not all scoia'tael are aen seidhe elves, most (including all higher ranking commanders and officers) are, but there are a number of nonhumans including dwarves and halflings.
unfortunately, the aen seidhe are slowly going extinct, both from years of genocide from humans and their slow reproductive cycles (elves live a Long time, but can only have children towards the beginning of their lives)
that's why it's so surprising to me that enid is preggers! we don't exactly know her age, but by my calculations she was over 150 in twn (pretty far past the age elves can have children).
because of this, elves are pretty divided between fighting against human rule and seeking coexistence. there are arguments for both camps, mainly that humans are colonizers and should not be trusted for the former, and that elves are dying out already and need to live with humans to survive for the latter.
the most prominent stand for the fight was in the 1060s when an aen seidhe named aelireen led an uprising against humans. most of the elders told her that it wouldn't end well, but she didn't listen and led hundreds of young elves into battle. it was an utter massacre, and basically all elves who could have children died.
yikes
unfortunately, the movement for coexistence was just as unsuccessful. it was led by our man cregennan of lod, lara dorren's husband. the poor simp just wanted to live in peace with his wife, but a lot of humans thought he was a traitor because he married an elf, and he and lara were murdered in 1137 in redania.
the last real push for independence was with the formation of the scoia'tael in the 1260s. I say 1260s because the very beginnings of the scoia'tael were right around 1262-1236 (the start of ciri's timeline) but they became majorly important around 1267. although, even the scoia'tael realized they needed humans to survive and began working with nilfgaard.
however, some scoia'tael are less keen on being nilfgaard's attack dogs, leading to further division amongst the aen seidhe.
black seidhe
remember the elves i talked about in part 2 as being the ancestors of the albans? this is them!
the black seidhe are native to the south, more particularly the valley around the alba river. they are practically extinct, but the nilfgaardians carry a lot of their cultural identity in the nilfgaardian language, a variation of hen llinge.
aen woedde
the wood elves, or aen woedde, is the elven culture we know the least about, they primarily live in the areas around nilfgaardian forests and speak hen llinge.
the only notable wood elf is aenyeweddien, or iskra, a member of the rats, a gang of semi violent youths in the northern realms. we'll learn more about the rats in future seasons.
tl;dr: elves, especially the aen seidhe and aen elle cultures, make up a large part of witcher lore. they are most notable for their long lifespans, magical and historical knowledge, and militaristic alliances with nilfgaard.
