"LOST"'s Morality Play

Even after seventeen years, the "LOST" Season Three episode, (3.14) "Exposé", still remains one of my all time favorites from the series. I thought Nikki Fernandez and Paulo's arc in the episode was such a damn good story. And very original.

I think someone had labeled Nikki and Paulo's arc as a "morality play". I guess it was, in a way. The episode reminded me of an old 1940s British melodrama movie I had seen in which two lovers were involved in the deaths of the woman's husband and father-in-law. Both lovers eventually betrayed each other and ended up dead by the last reel.

Elizabeth “Betsy” Kelso. (Born January 15th, 1979): The first of all the gang’s children. Betsy deserves better than being ignored by canon. A major ENFP. Betsy is an avid dancer, a lover of romantic novels, and the world’s okayest babysitter. Super close to her god-mother Jackie, who is arguably her biggest supporter and fan. Betsy’s unsure of what path she wants to take when it comes to her future. The world is full of possibilities, and all of them seem cool.

Ryan Henry Palmer. (Born October 27th, 1982): Laurie’s son who, along with his sister Kimberly, was a complete and utter accident. A fact of which he is very aware of. His father, Clark Palmer, splits custody with Laurie. Which leads to the twins spending a lot of time at Red and Kitty’s while their mom is working. Surprisingly clever for his age. You’ve got to keep your eyes on him, because he can be a handful. He’s got hints of his mother’s scheming nature. Although Ryan is nowhere near as bad as Laurie ever was.

Kimberly Anne Palmer. (Born October 27th, 1982): A deeply awkward cynic. Kimberly hates her name, and prefers to go by Kim. Or Kimmy, but that’s solely Uncle Eric’s nickname for her. She deeply resents her mother. And, to a degree, her father. Even if he tried with everything he had to get sole custody. She’s super close with Red, and is a pretty solidly athlete. Volleyball is her jam, and she used to kick Ryan’s ass at basketball when they were growing up.

Louise Madeline Kelso. (Born November 8th, 1984): Brooke and Kelso’s middle child. A vibrant, loud, and precocious dreamer. Louise is accident prone, with a variety of scrapped knees and bruises as a kid. She’s never met a cat she hasn’t instantly loved, or a glass of hot chocolate she would ever say no to drinking. Zachary Ian Kelso. (Born February 15th, 1986): Casey Kelso’s long-abandoned son being raised by a single mother in Kenosha. With loads of energy and a solid outlook on life despite his circumstances. Not much of a student, although not at all stupid. Zachary is actually pretty damn smart. He’s just not great with tests, and often skips out on homework to take extra shifts at the movie theatre he works at. He does, however, play for the school baseball team. (He also likes country music, to Allison’s disdain.) 

Nikki Maria Morales. (Born July 18th, 1986): Based vaguely off of Nikki’s character description from “That ‘90s Show.” My verse’s Nikki is an intelligent, confident, and focused student with a penchant for biology. Who often carries the weight of the world on her shoulders thanks to her parents heavy pressure. Thoroughly involved with after school activities, and the first of Allison’s friend group to get their license.

John “Jay” Cameron Kelso (Born August 3rd, 1989): The last of Brooke and Kelso’s children. My take on the “That ‘90s Show” description for Jay. He’s an introverted aspiring filmmaker. Jay is fine to be in the background, and prefers to be behind the camera instead of in front of one. He’s got that dash of Kelso naivety. Mostly in regards to what kind of difference a person can make in the world. He firmly believes in the ability to change, if one is only willing to put themselves forward and work hard.

in the universe where mtl went on longer i would’ve killed to see an episode of sorts where they talk to/interview background people/side characters. like besides one time villains (tho i mean y’all know me i’d love to see a rikki comeback) i mean like. recurring people you see in the background.

set the episode up like this: a documentary crew wants to make a doc about dethklok and the effect they’ve had on the world. the whole episode is framed through the lens of a camera. a part of making that doc would be talking to people who are consistently at whatever event the band is at. get their side of the story. i wanna hear from survivors from the duncan hills incidents, or nathan’s reign as governor. hell, get magnus on there for a minute. perhaps the episode could end with them actually getting a chance to interview dethklok themselves (presumably dying at the end ofc; the screen fades to black with text talking about how someone else “found the footage” and put together the film in their place)

it’d just be a fun way to see favorite recurring designs as well as give the overall world itself more depth. interviewing any villains that still lived would also be fun like i said, but i see this more as an opportunity to focus on the everyday person in the world of mtl.

The Nikki games don’t need to be gatekept. The Nikki franchise is already huge. The only thing that’s gonna change is that a bunch more English-speaking people are gonna play IN, there’s gonna be a little more “gross content” easily searchable for english-speaking people

Browse pixiv with the R18 filter off, 60% of the page is boobs-out edits and porn and fetishes (闪耀暖暖 / シャイニングニキ shining nikki, 奇迹暖暖 / ミラクルニキ miracle nikki). Google-translate some of the Chinese fics on ao3, you’ll find them easily because they’re either marked as explicit or have [R18] in the title/summary. Pixiv has a hard to miss, red R18 marker in the novels section

Again, the Nikki franchise is huge. The horny people have been there for a while. They’re just on other websites

And they won’t come to tumblr, where so many people are saying they should gatekeep Nikki. Tumblr still doesn’t allow porn. The artists have moved to twitter, and they won’t be flocking to tumblr for one game. All you have to do is stay on tumblr and block liberally on twitter (or stay off of Nikki twitter entirely)

There’s probably like 10 problematic people on tumblr, most people who post in the main tag already share your opinion on Gross Porn. The gross people are already here, have been for years, and they’re not moving to tumblr.

Manson holds permanent first place but, irrationally, he's inadequate to the task. The world continues to be fascinated by him, but he holds no interest for me. He knew intuitively how to manipulate young people --I suppose you could say he had a gift -- but he also learned some tricks of the trade in prison. If it hadn't been for certain external factors converging, what I've described unoriginally as a perfect storm, he wouldn't have been as effective. Psychopaths are a dime a dozen. Kids who grow up being loved and who are socialized with humane values and end up committing senseless murders are much less common.
