Thoughts on plying

So far I’ve plied the 3ply and the 4ply and the hawser ply. They’re so smooshy! Although the hawser yarn is definitely...stringier? Harsher? Not really rub-against-your-face smooth, whereas the other two definitely are. Which is much smoother than I was expecting! Hmm, ok, I just experiemented. It is still rub-against-your-face smooth, but my hands don’t think it is. Interesting???

I’m also somewhat annoyed at how much faster plying is than spinning, especially on a spindle. It took me 24 days to spin 100 g into 10 little (~10g) balls, (about 2 hours solid spinning each ball, judging from the solitary ball I managed while watching a film, and that’s my only point of reference), and then I don’t know how long to wind plying balls, but then I plied them in about an hour. Which actually only works out as half the speed per length (I used 3 balls to make the 3ply, 4 to make the 4ply and 3 to make the hawser, but I didn’t count how long to ply that one both times, so *shrugs*). Hmm. It felt so much quicker, at any rate.

So, for many many years I have been a ‘keep multiple projects on the go’ kind of person, which has been helpful for keeping the brain quiet and happy and not thinking about much. But this spinning project has been really revelatory about how I *can* focus on a (simple?) project and Get It Done. Which has been fascinating from a ‘why do all my projects take foreverrrrrrrrrrrr’ standpoint. And not having to think about which project to take out and work on has been not as bad as I thought it would be. Although the fact it took a month to spin 100g of yarn is a little bit something-or-other (bet I knit it in less than 5 days...). The question then becomes do I do another project in February (there isn’t really anything in the book I want to do, and the spinning break would give me a chance to spin something else (don’t question that logic...))

liv in flatpack is making me think about how and why she leaves

at the beginning she seems out of her depth (im aware she’s not from 21st century earth but even then at this point she seems almost bored of day to day life).

i can’t tell what big finishes endgame is here, because they are setting something up. like what’s the point of confirming lesbian helen and teasing livhelen for them not to end up together, or at least confirm a one-sided romance (other than tragedy).

the writing on this topic is trying to go three different directions and ik we don’t have the full picture yet, but it’s just so hard to see a logical explanation for this problem at the moment that doesn’t involve a convoluted plot they could have skipped if they just hadn’t had made liv come back to 2021.
