I love trans voices in audio dramas. I love when trans characters are voiced by trans actors and their voice isn't 100% passing. I love that said characters are never misgendered. I love how their voices sound beautiful and authentic. I love that their voces sound like mine our my friend's.

despite how fun it was, a parade of providence felt shallow when brought into full context. most of the characters in genshin are used as devices to contribute to the chapter, and the choice for the theme of selflessness could have gone to another, or at the very least it could have done a better job at exploring it further than just surface level 'upper class man wih ideals of altruism that hinder his stability'.
kaveh's backstory was pretty compelling, and his characterization is certainly enjoyable, but this in itself and the point the event makes straight up refuse to look at the elephant in the room. and if that was the intention then.. its just not stellar writing, im not saying bad, just that it is disappointing to me personally.
kaveh is an intellectual who struggles with compulsive guilt so he cant bring himself to ignore people in need around him, and this is portrayed in the event as him refusing to claim points from faruzan, helping trapped foxes in the desert, and ultimately rejecting sachin's nihilistic research so that it doesnt hurt anyone again. he is also a character who suffers his own pains in silence, since his reputation prevents him from showing vulnerability and reaching out for help, even when its the actions of his own blood family that hurt him.
in isolation this is compelling, but in contrapositon to the desert? it feels hollow.
hoyo has built up the narrative in the desert well, especially through jeht's quests, but if all it amounts to is to be used as an argument for the intellectuals then its worthless to me. kaveh doesnt read sachin's research, he gets to keep his principles of altruism and collectivism precisely because he doesnt get to look into the real suffering of humanity. would his ideals still stand against choices like those jeht had to make? we never get to find out, and i wish that had been more of the point of the event. all i get from this is his ideals are shallow and unchallenged. intellectual in nature i guess? blindness is a recurrent theme in this chapter after all.
take dehya for example, who was abandoned as a baby in the middle of the desert, grew up in poverty, made her own principles and values among a no mans land, smuggled people into the city, and gave up all her life savings to an orphanage. she even risked her own safety to rescue a god and a nation that would never do the same for her kin.
like how am i supposed to look at kaveh's upper class struggles like this. doesnt help that dehya and candace barely featured as circumstancial guests in the plot, and that cyno only showed up for comic relief. it would have felt more genuine to address the elephant in the room, but that would have dimishined the main character, so i guess nahida's epilogue had to resolve it.
i dont know, its not the first time they introduce the narrative of a marginalized community only to brush it under the carpet when it has fulfilled its job as an argument for something else. and watsumi island didnt even get meaningful quests.
just feeling a little disappointed at the moment, maybe i'll change my mind if they do address it later. and its not my place to argue about this sort of bias but i also am not gonna pretend it doesnt bother me

I love Nandor and Colin Robinson's relationship from these last two episodes. Nandor save Colin's life and tried so hard to help him feed. Colin stole Nandor's mother's necklace and changed the immigrant museum exposition so that it would make Nandor feel seen. I don't know they're just family and it feels so nice :')

I love Ethan Green as a character so much.
He is introduced in Black Friday as your go-to bad boy; we know through Frank’s conversation with Lex that he is a bad influence.
But soon after he properly appears, entering the scene. He hugs Lex, has picked up Hannah for her but most importantly, he gives Hannah his especial cap so that she feels better. Both in Black Friday and Yellow Jacket, Ethan takes care of Hannah. At first we might think he’s just doing Lex a favor, but he likes Hannah, he likes spending time with her. He gives his life for her in Black Friday, and in Yellow Jacket not only do they bond and spend time together, but Ethan tries to stop Hannah from fighting Otho.
He is also deeply in love with Lex. Ethan knows that he is not the brightest guy, but he tries to to be there for her. He might fail, or completely fuck up, but it is not out of malice. Ethan does not only want to be there for Lex, but be better. He wants to see her smile, and will fight until he achieves it.

I'm still not over the fact that when Paul re-enters in NPMD after If I Loved You, Inevitable stars playing. The leitmotif of Paul Matthews The Guy who didn't like musicals, it's his final solo, the song of his defeat. His leitmotif is a love song that ended up with his soulmate's life. His leitmotif is of the song where he's happier in the musical, but he's also dead.

I can't believe there's two Joey Richter characters that are part of a doomed, tragic romance that ends with a person being killed by their partner AND who have a bond-esque motif associated with them. I also can't believe one of them is Ted Spankoffski.

The Stakes arc was very influenced by tarot, more specifically the major arcana. The Vampire King minions take their name after different cards, such as the Empress, the Hierophant, the Fool and the Moon. If you're interested in this lecture I recommend you this video essay on yt that goes in depth on the topic.
In episode 7 of Fionna and Cake we see a new Marceline, a Marcy that has been raised by the VK instead of Simon. And in this universe, she's the Star.
Tumblr media
In tarot, the Star is related to renewal, to hope after hardship.
In a universe in which she never met Simon, where she was a lonely kid in a post-apocalyptic world, the VK took her under his wing and adopted her. He gave her the opportunity to not only have a life, but to have a family. They seemed really close, with Marcy talking lovingly about him and the VK running to help her when she was fighting Bonnie.
However, the Star reverse symbolizes lost of faith, giving up, disconnection.
In a world in which she had to be on her own on her childhood, Marceline has no connection to other's life. She kills as she pleases, and doesn't care about who lives or dies. She lacks empathy. The only person she seems to care about is Bonnie, but she seems to see her as something of a toy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her hairstyle, short, doesn't reach her shoulders, reminds us of her childhood. This Marcy doesn't seem to have grown up, not truly at least. She's capricious, childish, more bratty than what we're used to. She has not progressed, stagnant as the rest of the vampires.

Came back wrong as something you choose. Being so traumatized by the coldness of death. The pain of the wounds. The loneliness of the tomb. Taking your fear and weaponizing it against those who were with you, those who should've laid at the ground with you. Swearing to destroy everything so that they'll feel the emptiness you felt at the grave. Make them pay for leaving.
Coming back just to take someone else with you.

Even though he might seem distressed, your archivist needs a little bit of thrill every now and then. Make sure to introduce some avatars in his enclosure, so that he can follow them and learn from them. If they decide to haunt him, he might become even more babygirl than before, but might be hurt in the process. Look for distress signs such as the repeat use of "good lord" or an increase in his isolation tendencies.
