SYNOPSIS |

In the kingdom of Azurani, people are mysteriously going missing, nights are lasting longer, and something dark has begun to seep into the soil. Something that is tar black and smells of death and decay. Something that will send the entire kingdom into chaos. Followers of the Old Faith called it the Dawning, and they said it would end the world. Not many in Azurani believe in the Old Faith anymore, as its followers have been driven into hiding by the High King, but those that do fear the Dawning.

But the Sages spoke of a prophecy. There is a land where the rivers flow with the blood of the Goddess, trees sprout from the ashes of the ancient war, and spirits of those who perished reign. There is a land where a sleeping army has resided for a millennium. They have been slumbering for too long. And a girl made of destructive magic running from an obsessed man and a ruthless heretic made of shadows lives are tangled together by cruel fate. They hold the key to saving the world or destroying it.

SETTING/HISTORY |

When the goddess created Azurani, she created the Mundanus to give life to her new world. She fell in love with a Mundanus man, and when she birthed her first son, she created two kinds; those who could and those who could not.

Namari loved her creations equally, but her blood flowed through one and not the other. Kimenas were gifted with shards of the Goddess's powers. The Mundanus grew jealous and demanded their own powers, but the ones she gifted them paled in comparison to the Kimenas. They took this as favoritism.

A millennium ago, the Mundnus raged war against the goddess and her people. And a new God rose from the darkness and bloodshed, proclaiming himself the High King, gifting his most loyal warriors their own lands and allowing them to do as they pleased with the Kimena. The goddess had perished, and her children fled the palace going into hiding. Some kept their bloodline pure, while others found it better to breed with the Mundanus. Now the Mundanus rule with an iron fist, and Kimena are forced to hide their magic or be persecuted.

CHARACTERS |

Nezi'a Vasily; end bringer, soul guide, soul eater, the golden one

is sewn from tragedy, a melancholy girl with gold-speckled skin and a heart that does not beat. Her fabric has been ripped at the seams.

Zyon Almatsi; the king of shadows, umbraki

is made of shadows and carved from stone. he is ruthless divinity; the stars are jealous of how bright his anger burns. 

Mazu Atelier

is undeniable beauty and sharp teeth, she is a creature grown in dark, cold water, a seductress with a heart of gold. she hides behind confidence and a sharp tongue.

Nox Tempest

is a vagabond whose home is a girl he should hate; the son of a fabled pirate king, he bleeds gold and controls his loyal crew with an iron fist.

Karro Vasily

is a shattered mirror whose pieces cut him too deep, leaving his palms bloody and his spirit broken. regret ravished him. he felt too much, so he decided to feel nothing at all.

Cipher Skash

is a righteous man, loyal and damaged. hier to a throne he deserves but does not want, he follows his heart even if it is slowly breaking.

Selah Ajea

is made of ice and envy. she is a master of poisons, that wants what she knows can never truly be hers. violently brought into the world, she is beautiful and deadly.

Amar Duman

is made of darkness that consumes him. he is a weapon, cruel and merciless, hiding behind his web of lies and handsome face.

the summary;

 Juliette allows herself to breathe, to pretend that, even for just a moment, she isn’t consumed by a legacy born in bloodshed. Victorian London is on the precipice of destruction. As civil war breaks out between the city’s most formidable gangs, Juliette Edevane finds herself with a daring mission: kill the leaders of the Bonellis and secure her position as heir to London’s underworld. But orchestrating the deaths of Ruth and Cassius Granville is not as simple as it may seem. 

Juliette is swept into a world of murder, magic, and marriage - where a wedding between her and a long-time rival may signify the line between success and failure in her mission. how it started;

draft one totalled in at 102,130 words (after many, many failed attempts at draft zero).

how it's going;

draft two is currently at a healthy 62,361 words. if i average the number of words per chapter, this is looking to have a word count of 144k. which is insane!!!!!

not only have the first lines drastically changed but i like to think there's a lot more political agenda, magic with consequences.... and obviously cannibalism metaphors.

going into the future, i'm hoping to maybe get beta readers once i finish draft 3... which seems impossible but also i gotta do it for my gang wip girls (juth). so if anyone is interested keep an eye out for that in the next few months hehe !!!!

Thanks @winterandwords for the tag! I can't say I've played this one yet either, but I'm always down to play along. I'll be using a chunk from The Garden That Burned, book 1 - Kindling.

Context: Danny just finished the first transformation into a Lycan that he was mentally present for. The others have been blackouts that happen just after seeing a Lykoi. A Lycan is a werewolf, however, a Lykoi is what becomes of a Lycan when it loses its humanity and regresses into a beast forever.

  “I’d like to hear your opinion...” I replied, hoping her answer would bring me more comfort than what was going through my head. My fear was that the Lykoi was a vision of myself from the future and that I would eventually fall to my animal instincts and become more beast than man.   “I like to believe that the Lykoi is a subconscious representation of how you now see yourself. You learned of your heritage and the first thing you did was call yourself a monster. I think a small part of you has known all along, and that you see this black Lykoi as the part of yourself that you do not know how to control, so instead you lock it away and you fear it from afar. You see it as an animal, or a monster, as you so blatantly put it, but it is not. A true monster is defined by its actions, not the way it was born. If you believe what you just became was a monster, then you have clearly never seen what becomes of a man with nothing to lose.”

Are you named after anyone?

Not that I know of. I've never thought to ask and no one has said anything about it.

[Both of my parents' grandmothers had the same name so mine is just a version of that. My middle name is a combination of my parents' mothers' middle names.]

2. When was the last time you cried?

I'm not gonna pretend like I'm some macho man dripping with bravado. I cried in that swamp. Before that, I cried in my bed because...well, for reasons. It happens.

3. Do you have kids?

I'm literally 20 years old. A child would ruin everything for me.

[I am a 24-year-old teenage girl. One day I'd love to, but today is not that day.]

4. Do you use sarcasm?

5. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Their hair. How it's styled. How clean it is. How neat it is. Hair is important in my culture. Mine probably looks like shit now, but usually, I take good care of it.

[Clothes and shoes. I'm big on fashion. I love collecting shoes and trying new styles. I'm always curious about other people's styles.]

6. What's your eye color?

Brown. Dark, dark brown.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

I love movies. I make movies. I don't think you can compare the two, though. Scary movies are a different form of art that not everyone gets. It's more than just the scare. It's the tropes. The characters. The score. I will say that I don't always like a happy ending, so I guess my answer is scary movies.

[I love scary movies. BUT, I'm a sap and I cry at almost everything, so a good happy ending is always nice, too.]

8. Any special talents?

Can it truly be considered special, if I'm good at everything I do?

[I don't know. I like to bake cookies lol. Not to be that person, but I don't know if I have a special talent. I've done a lot of different things, so maybe just a Jack of All (a few) Trades.]

9. Where were you born?

Oklahoma. In a hospital close to the rez.

10. What are your hobbies?

Watching movies. Making movies. Reading.

[Besides reading and writing, I like collecting things and watching movies and TV. I don't know if this is a hobby, but I like trying new foods.]

11. Have you any pets?

I mean, there's the rez dogs. That's about it.

12. What sports do you play/have played?

I played basketball in high school.

[I played basketball for about 4-5 years. I used to fence and I was in marching band (it's a sport. don't start).]

Are you trying to be funny? Haha, we get it. I'm not tall.

[5'6, but I wish I was just a few inches taller. Just 2 inches would be nice.]

14. Favorite subject in school?

Debate, of course. After that, probably Psychology.

Movie director and/or producer would be a dream, but we have to be realistic here. I'm getting a degree in PoliSci so I can have a real job that'll pay real bills.

got tagged by @abalonetea and @onomatopiya respectfully so i'll combine both into one 🥲

i have a confession... i'm cheating a bit for nano. i'm "rewriting" the first couple of chapters for gemini heist (that i'd written over a year ago, mind you) to get a head start and also to get back into the swing of this wip and also to fix some of the stuff that was bothering me since i keep changing shit and some things didn't work anymore. so here are the last couple of lines i've (re)written for that

The air was sweltering hot and bone dry as the speeder exited the ship to venture into the desert, coasting down a dust road lined with compact yellow leafless plants. It was hard to tell what time it was; with the planet tidally locked onto its star, Spegava City was always illuminated, and nighttime didn’t exist, allowing establishments to be open all the time. Even long before reaching the heart of the city, the streets were packed with people looking for their next thrill. Performers in extravagant costumes lined the sidewalks, towering above the crown on stilts or juggling lit plasma daggers, somehow expertly avoiding getting all their fingers sliced off by the colourful blades of compressed energy.  Several circus tents were pitched in the red sand on the outskirts of the city, with massive holographic banners competing for space in the sky, promising to deliver audiences the spectacle of a lifetime. Euna gripped the back of the seat in front of her and stared at the back of Leo’s head to keep the bile from rising in her throat at the sight of them. “So,” she said, swallowing hard. “Where’re we headed to, Cap?”
