“You know what really sucks?”

Her friend tilted his head toward her, attentive.

“Tell me.”

“Being ignored. Feeling like your presence doesn't make a difference to others. Like, you see them having fun with each other, but they look down on you. Then, to make themselves feel good about themselves acknowledge you once.”

She sighed, feeling the bitterness consume her. “Like you're some kind of little puppy.”

The man stared at her, like really stared. Sakura seemed to suddenly remember who she was talking to. She felt silly all of a sudden. And embarrassed. Her hand rested on his arm as she apologized.

“Oh, Naruto... I’m sorry. Of course you know how it feels. I didn't mean to... I know how hard it was for you. I didn't mean to sound like a crybaby when I said that, it's just...”

Naruto shook his head, giving her a reassuring smile.

“ It's okay, Sakura-chan. Just because I've been through a lot doesn't mean you can't suffer. It's not really a competition, y’know? Your feelings are still valid even if you feel like I've suffered more than you.”

Tears welled up in her eyes. The blonde was always so understanding. Kind and he felt for everyone. That's probably why he was one of the most important people in her life. Maybe even the only one. She loved all her boys, of course. But Naruto held a special place in her heart. He was her sunshine on rainy days. A soft smile bloomed on her lips, touched.

“Naruto, thank you.”
