⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ SERIES MASTERLIST ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆
When you do manage to get yourself out of bed and dressed for the day, which consists of an oversized long sleeved shirt that you stole from your uncle (because you liked it) along with some leggings and long white socks, you tell yourself to take a deep breath and accept whatever fate awaits you.
You've made your bed (literally, and figuratively speaking) so now you have to... well, not lie in it...
Anyway.
You walk downstairs to smell Steve at work in the kitchen, cooking up something delicious. Eddie sees you first, on the couch.
He grins and waves. "Mornin’, princess.”
You smile and give him a little wave. "Howdy."
Robin walks in with a first aid kit to give him fresh bandages, visibly sagging with relief when she sees you.
“Oh thank God, you’re up. These kids are already on one...”
You can’t help but snort a laugh at that, taking in her frazzled state, and you ask her what you can do to help but she just says in a desperate voice, “Coffee, please, I love you.”  You grin and nod, hearing her and Eddie fussing over his dressing as you make for a hot cup of coffee.
You can hear the kids all around the corner, chirping lively from the kitchen. Even El is in there participating. Hopper’s voice is in the mix somewhere, grunting something about “indoor voices.”  Your uncle is arguing over something with Erica, balls deep in a heated debate.
When you round the corner, your eyes first land on Nancy. She’s sitting at the bar with Jonathan. She smiles at you shyly. Jonathan greets you out loud.
“Bauman Squared is up.”
The kids all get in a tizzy of excitement. Erica’s excitement is short-lived, given her intense debate with your uncle. But Dustin is rushing over to you, blabbering about something pertaining to the lifespan of canned goods, and Mike is chiming in from the table saying, “No, Dustin, hold up, okay?  So, Bauman, this is actually how it started.”
But your uncle cuts him off, asking them why they call you that when you both share the same last name. Joyce teasingly points out that he’s Murray and you’re Bauman.
Hopper adds to that, “yeah man, get with the program. Your niece is our favorite.” He shoots you a wink, and you give him a finger gun of approval.
Your uncle is rolling his eyes, but shoots you a desperate look — “Coffee. Black. Strong. Gracias.”   Erica resumes her debate with him.
You grin as you move to go get your uncle a much needed cup of coffee, finding that Steve has stopped flipping the pancakes to look at you with a soft smile and scooting over a hot mug of coffee to you.
But it’s not for your uncle. It’s for you.
“Two sugar, light cream, right?”
The way that Steve murmurs the question to you makes you weak in the knees. You settle for giving him a tight-lipped grin and nod.
“Yeah, thank you,” you murmur back.
Steve moves to grab another mug, moving to pour another cup of straight black coffee for your uncle. You can’t help but notice the curve of his biceps as he does, secretly admiring his face while the coffee pours from the pot. The way his white t-shirt fits him just right, his gray sweatpants sitting at the jusssst right point of his hips.
You swallow. Fuck.
You get a hold of yourself before he’s handing it over to you. He winks. “It’s strong. I promise.”
You smirk back at him, raising the glass in thanks before walking it over to your uncle.
You don’t notice the way that Steve tries to hide the overwhelming thoughts in his brain, signaling his evolving feelings for you.
And you also don’t notice now Nancy catches it, or how it uncomfortably makes her heart seize...
But you do notice your uncle staring at you with those damn all-knowing-eyes, while Erica incessantly jabbers on about whatever the hell they’re debating. You and Murray exchange the quietest but most intense glares.
And Hopper's got half a donut hanging out of his mouth as he happens to catch the tail end of this. He wants to ask, but decides it’s best to hold off on that.
***
The day goes well. The house is always staying busy, so it keeps you all that way. Hopper is calling for a family meeting in the living room, which gets everyone in a tizzy.
The boys will always, at some point, try to take over. It takes both Joyce and Hopper to set them straight.
Your uncle makes sure to throw in his usual statement: “peanut gallery hours will follow the meeting, thank you.”
This meeting is no exception, and it goes exactly like that.
Will makes great points, as always — and he is allowed to, along with El, given their ties to the supernatural.
Jonathan and Nancy always listen the best. One of them takes notes.
Normally, you sit next to your uncle or Eddie while Steve always takes a seat next to Robin.
But this time, as you sit next to Murray at the end of the couch listening to Hopper try to push through his conference lecture while Dustin interjects like crazy, your heart flutters as Steve moves from the staircase over to sit on the arm of the couch -- next to you.
You sit still, not letting yourself react or look up at him. But you also forget to breathe. Thankfully, he’s too busy telling Dustin to can it so he doesn’t notice.
Robin is slowly shifting back in her seated position in the large loveseat, having been prepared to make room for Steve. She’s too grateful to have it to herself to feel suspicious yet.
Eddie, however, clocks it. What “it” is, necessarily? He doesn’t know.  Like honestly, he’s not even in the ballpark.  But still, he notices so yay gold star.
Nancy does know what “it” is, though, when she catches it.  Or at least she has an inkling.  She’s not the note taker today, so she’s able to catch it. She wonders to herself if maybe she is just overthinking it, given her conflicted feelings for Steve while still with Jonathan.
Steve is actively participating in the conversation with the adults, and you chime in as well. Once you’ve gotten a grip on yourself.
Something is being said about needing to go on a supply run, but also how they need to get over to the main field and see what is happening at the lab — which is now squared off with all electric fencing. The kids are LOUD, demanding it be them. Hopper shuts that down real fast.
“So help me Goddddd, listentome.” — Hopper
“Kids, shh, calm down…” — Joyce
“FETUSES, SILENCIO.”  — Murray
The kids relent with rolled eyes and groans of displeasure. Hopper rubs his temples, resetting.  Then speaking —
“I will be assigning roles. You will hear them, and you will accept them.  Deal?”
Everyone nods, agreeing. Even the kids. Great, you think, so they’ve learned to know better than push their luck that far…
Hopper is assigning 4 separate groups to 4 separate tasks.
In one group: Robin, Nancy, Will and Joyce. They will be making the supply run.
In the 2nd group: Dustin, Erica and Murray will be staying here to run the command center. Murray’s the boss. He grins, but also wants to jump off a cliff for the fact he has been assigned the responsibility of managing the two loudest kids in the group. Lucas will also stay with Max, while on lookout at base.
In the 3rd group: Hopper, El, Mike and Argyle as the driver. They’ll be assessing the damage done, pertaining to the gate re-opening. They’re on Vecna patrol.
In the 4th group: Jonathan, Steve, you and Eddie. You’ll all be venturing over the fence to spy on the lab and get a look at what is happening over there, while reporting back to Group 2.
This sends Dustin to a fit of determination, as he insists that he joins your group so that he can help with the walkie-talkie communication since Lucas and Erica can man the fort. (Murray definitely takes offense to that.)
Hopper huffs but doesn’t disagree with the suggestion. “Don’t let this give you any sort of false pretenses, kid. This is the one suggestion you’ve made that is sensible.”
Dustin just grins like a dopey idiot. Then he looks at Steve. “Yay!”
Steve rolls his eyes but honestly, he’s cool with having his buddy.
The plan is to go into effect early tomorrow morning. Meaning, everyone needs to get some good ass sleep and tuck in early.
You’re in your room now, having just showered and put on your pajamas with freshly brushed teeth. You’re putting together your combat outfit for tomorrow when there’s a knock at your door.
You expect it to be your uncle, since earlier he was going over strategies with you for an obscenely long time — which is his very awkward way of indirectly saying, “hey, you’re my niece and I love you and I’m worried about you because that’s what family does.” So you figure he’s drawn up another 10 plans to run by you, and you're happy to humor him on them.
But it’s Steve on the other side, looking shy and like he might’ve had to talk himself into doing this in fear of how you might react.
You give him a surprised but pleasant smile. He stands there, returning it timidly. There is a silence that falls over both of you. Then finally —
“Can I sleep in here tonight?”
You have to literally restrain yourself from jumping at that question with a way-too-eager oh thank god, yes. Instead, you just give him a polite grin.
“Yeah, of course,” you say.
Steve lets himself in, and he looks over to see your outfit set aside for tomorrow. He nods at it as he sits on the edge of the bed.
“Tryna look badass?”
You smirk. “I am a badass. I’m a Bauman.”
You expect Steve to scoff. To roll his eyes. Make some snide remark. But he doesn’t. He just looks at you, with that same look on his face that he had this morning while you two laid in bed together. You can’t break away your gaze for a moment, almost hypnotized.
God, he is so beautiful. Why the fuck is he so beautiful?
Finally, you break the stare down by moving to get your combat boots out from the closet and place them beside the clothes.
And that’s when you feel it. His fingers brushing the edge of your t-shirt, hooking onto it so that you turn around. You do, letting him turn you to face him. He’s looking at you intently, and slowly he pulls you towards him to cage you between his spread legs as he sits on the edge of the bed. It’s half shy, half confident. Gentle but assertive. You stare down into his doe eyes, and you hold your breath when his fingers splay across your hips as they grip onto you. You’re so close to him now, too close yet somehow not close enough. You can’t breathe.
After soaking you in, Steve reaches one arm up to pull your neck down to his face so that he can brush the tip of his nose against yours, just like you did last night. Ever so slowly, be nuzzles. Eskimo kiss.
And then his lips are finding their way to be against yours.
Steve kisses you softly, taking his time and just breathing you in. Then he sighs into your mouth as he stands so that he can lift you up, making you swing your legs to wrap around his waist and hold yourself to him there. He turns you both around, effortlessly walking you over to sit on top of the chest of drawers. Damn, he's strong. Steve places you there, lips still on yours, before he finally pulls back.  His hands glide down to the bottom of your shirt. Please, his eyes ask. But this time, he wrenches your shirt off of you with more vigor than last night. It’s urgent, and it’s still urgent when his lips crash back into yours before wrenching himself back again so that you can tug his shirt over his own head. He grunts impatiently, wanting to not be apart from you yet needing to be skin to skin. He paws and grabs at you, needy and greedy, but something about it feels a whole lot more like love than lust.
Steve tastes like summer. Sunscreen, popsicles and June. He smells like pool water and boyfriend. And he looks like a dream.
You wonder how in the world he would have felt if he’d been told during his King Steve era that one day, he’d be having sex with that one student who graduated a year early and didn’t belong to any niche crowd or group or clique. You wonder if he would scoff at that, wave it off. Say, nah, that girl? Never.
But the way that Steve keens into your neck right now, murmuring sinful names for you like angel and baby, makes you wonder if King Steve wouldn’t be able to understand that the new and improved Steve Harrington might just happen to be into things he never was into before. Maybe he’d gotten close with Nancy. Maybe you were a rebound. But he didn’t kiss you like that. Or treat you like that after your first time, for that matter...
And the second time was just as euphoric as the first time, just different. Steve was more in control, clinging to you and unafraid to go for it.
Before you know it, you’re up against the wall with your bare chest against it and your legs spread widely and his mouth on your ear. Tugging at your earlobe with his teeth and his shaky breathing, infused with his pleasured grunting humming inside of your eardrums. You pant and bite back the screams that you so fucking badly want to release. but you don't, not wanting to wake the entire household or get the attention anyone awake.  However, you made sure that he knew you were in pure fucking bliss with the way you arched your back into him and dripped all over his girth.
“Been wanting to be here inside you all day,” he rasped, thrusting against you. “Didn’t wanna leave this room.” His words break up as he pounds himself deeper into your guts. “Needed to — to — n-n-need you —”
You throw your head back against him, climaxing at his words for the second time in a row tonight. His arm linked around your waist tightens, gripping you like a lifeline, and he chokes into your ears — which only sends you into an orgasm unlike anything you’ve ever felt in your life. And Steve shares the exact same experience as you do when he ejaculates inside of you.
You both pant and gasp for air, your heart rates racing at lightning speed and trying to level out. You’re both slick with sweat and sex, and as Steve rests his head against your shoulder it sends chills up your arms when his hair flops and tickles your bare skin.
Steve pulls out of you, and you shiver as you feel him leave your body, inch by inch. The loss of him is overwhelming, and your legs shake. But before you can even move to catch yourself, Steve is already turning you to him with a steady grasp on you.
The way that Steve strokes your hair, moving it out of your face as he stares into your eyes again, is priceless. You can’t help it…
“You’re beautiful, Steve Harrington.” You breathe it against his face, still catching your breath. The corners of your lips twitch, almost like you want to laugh or smile. “I can’t stand you.”
Steve looks at you like you’re all that matters in this world. The pads of his thumbs stroke the skin under your eyes, softly, gingerly. He moves to press his lips to the corner of your mouth, breathing against it, “I can’t stand you either.”
Feather-like kisses are pressed to the corner of your mouth and cheek, and you revel in the glory of it, pressing your skull into the wall with your eyes fluttering shut.
Steve falls asleep first that night, with you tucked underneath his chin and with his arms holding you protectively. You let the sound of his steady breathing lull you to sleep.
***
The next morning comes sooner than you’d like.
You feel someone squeeze you tightly to them, pressing their lips to the crown of your hair before they roll out of bed. You watch as Steve’s back muscles flex while he tugs his sweatpants back over his boxers, then throws his shirt back on and heads to your little en-suite bathroom for a few minutes. You force yourself to sit up, knowing that it’s time and you’ll need to get ready.
Hopper would be so mad if he knew about the 5 hours of sleep you got, versus the 8.
You’re pulling out a pair of socks to go with your boots when Steve emerges from the bathroom, and before you can stand up and move to switch places — he’s cupping your cheeks to kiss your forehead in two lingering pecks. You smile under his touch.
You give him the shyest of looks before going to brush your teeth, re-shower and get changed.
Steve quietly murmurs to you the promise of coffee as he leaves. And he is all you think about in the shower.
You get changed into your army pants, combat boots, and fitted t-shirt. You grab yourself a windbreaker and throw your go-bag over your shoulder, ready to face the day.
Dustin is securing the command center with Murray and Erica, while Mike comes over to you carrying snacks.
“Here, I set extra aside so that you have plenty.”  Mike always treated you more like a sister than Nancy, and it doesn’t go unnoticed by her. You ruffle his hair and give him a quick squeeze, grateful.
Lucas and Will are asking you questions about the trip, along with Mike, and you assure your kiddos that you’ll all be fine.
Hopper comes over to you with Murray, entrusting you with one of their guns. “You’re the group's team lead today, along with Steve.”
Steve’s got his nail bat, along with a pistol.
Murray is going over the inner workings of the lab’s field layout with you and your group.
“The break switch is in this building,' he's saying. "But thanks to Erica and Dustin, we’ve got a way of hacking into it at exactly this time. You’ll have this much time to mount the electric fence and get to the other side. Seize. Those. Minutes. Haul ass. Get to the other side.  No asking why the chicken crossed the road. Capiché?”
The way that Jonathan, Eddie and Steve repeat the word back to him makes you visibly bite back a laugh.
Joyce is giving everyone the nurturing mama bear talk, hugging everyone too many times — especially Jonathan. She has Will in her group, so she’ll be a little more sane in the head thankfully.
Nancy and Jonathan are giving each other an affectionate goodbye that Steve doesn’t even notice. Nancy wonders if he does. Silently, and selfishly, she hopes he does. But he doesn’t.
Robin is rambling about something having to do with a jump-ship plan in case the jump-ship plan doesn’t work, and if they need to establish not only a 2nd abort —
“— but maybe even a 3rd abort? and wait is there really enough backpacks that they’re taking to fit all the supplies and can goods that they — ”
“Oh my god, Robin, please breathe,” Steve cuts her off.
“Wait, what’s the jump ship plan?” Argyle’s question makes everyone whip their head in his direction with incredulous looks on their faces.
Hopper looks ready to slug someone but also like a nervous dad. After he goes back over the plan for everyone, giving the bullet points, he tells you all to eat your breakfasts and be by the front door within 30 minutes or else.
Lucas takes his plate up to sit with Max. El comes over to talk with you about the day, saying that she’ll send a signal if she sees anything dangerous headed your way at the lab. She gives you a tight hug, which tugs at Hopper’s heart. He and Murray share a very rare, quiet moment with an exchange in their eyes. Our girls.
Steve is telling the boys and Erica to follow him upstairs to Max’s room to join Lucas for a motherly pep talk, and they all follow him like chicks following a mother hen.
Eddie is being given strict instructions by Robin to follow orders and not rip his stitches that she’s worked hard at keeping in tact by mounting the wall --
...“and be on the damn lookout only so help me god or else I’ll rip them back open myself,” she threatens him.
Eddie visibly swallows and nods at that, believing her.
Suddenly Nancy is walking up to you, as you stand there still hugging El while looking over Murray’s shoulder at his computer system setup. She looks nervous as you turn to her.
“Hey, umm, keep an eye on them, will you?” she asks shyly, sheepishly. “I worry about them. Especially Dustin.”
You know she meant Steve. “Yeah. Of course.”
Nancy nods awkwardly, grateful you didn’t correct her and a little embarrassed. She points to the gun on your back, giving you a tight-lipped grin. “Glad it’s you handling that bad boy.”
She flashes the same one across her back. You chuckle lightly, agreeing with her. “Yeah, the last thing we need is for Eddie to get his hands on this or else he’ll murder the whole town.”
Nancy giggles.
Eddie snickers at the joke, appreciating your dark humor. He gives you a wry smile. “Thanks princess, but I only prefer bone crushing, eye sucking curses.”
You all eat some whole wheat eggos (even El) and some scrambled eggs. Plenty of water, plus some coffee.
Steve walks in to scoop up his plate during the last 10 minutes, and Hopper takes pity on him — given that he’s been with the kids.
“You get an extra 5,” Hopper tells him.
“Appreciate it, Hop.”
Steve carries his plate over to the table, moving to sit by you and Murray — who does his best to just stare down at his coffee and ignore catching this in his peripheral vision. Sip, slurp.
It’s a quiet breakfast. Tense. Stiff. Everyone is nervous. This stuff never does get easier…
***
The kids all boom back down the stairs, loud as ever.
And everyone is out the door on time, minus the extra 5 minutes that Hopper secretly gave for Steve’s benefit. Thankfully, it goes unremarked but the kids.
You all put their hands in a circle because Dustin insisted a while back that you cannot all part ways without a group huddle. So it’s now become tradition. Everyone fist bumps in unison, and the four groups embark on their separate journeys.
Group 1 does well, making it into town. They have the bottom tier level of risk, which Hopper did intentionally for Joyce and Will's sakes because those are his hearts. He also adores the two girls, Nancy and Robin, of course. They carefully fill up Joyce’s car in doses, trying not to attract attention as everyone has a strict evacuation mandate that goes into place next week along with a food supply limit. They’re ahead of the game, doing everything not to give away what Dr. Owens warned them about.
Group 2 is in full swing, back at Casa Harrington. Erica and Murray bicker like a married couple, but they also high five. Lucas makes sure that Max is safely tucked in, giving her a kiss on the forehead and a promise to be back upstairs in a few hours.
Group 3 is cautious. They have to calculate every single move, given the risks. El uses her senses to tap in, blindfold on and static on the van's radio ringing throughout the car. Mike keeps watch, along with Argyle at the wheel — and Hopper navigates.
Group 4, your group, is en route. You have the longest journey to make on foot, making sure to keep their strength. Jonathan keeps watch of time, and Dustin hangs into the walkie-talkie to keep contact. You scan the area, and so does Steve, as you all walk. Eddie sings to himself to keep from wigging out, and it’s definitely giving mumbled panic.
You are telling everyone the ETA, using the compass. Steve tells the gang to keep the same pace so that they make sure they aren’t there too soon or too late, wanting to time it right with Group 2’s orders.
At some point, you gesture for everyone to pivot directions, and when Steve steps in your direction — he instinctively reaches out to brush the small of your back. It’s so subtle… yet so telling.
Eddie cocks an eyebrow mid-song, ceasing the mumbling altogether for about 2 solid seconds, before resuming as he walks. Even Jonathan raises an eyebrow, silently smirking.
Dustin misses it entirely.
Then Dustin starts communicating back and forth on the walkie-talkie with Erica, and as they start to bicker Steve interjects.
“Hey, dingus, cool it and listen to what she’s saying, please.”
Dustin huffs, whining, “but she’s wronnnng...”
You squint in the sunlight as you look back at him, saying simply, “Listen to your mother.”
Steve doesn’t even flinch. You both just look back at your son expectantly. Dustin sighs but obeys.
Oh that definitely makes Eddie and Jonathan share a look.
Back at base, Murray is struggling to access the switch for the electric fence closest to where Group 4 (you guys) is approaching. He and Erica work hard at it, and Lucas helps as he keeps open the line of communication with Dustin via the walkie-talkie.
“This east side gate is a bitch,” Murray is griping over the channel.  “Hang tight, just pause when you guys make it there.”
Dustin and Lucas are going back and forth, while Jonathan tries to keep up with what they are all saying.
You can see the fence up ahead, and so does Steve.
Eddie’s singing gets louder.
Nancy speaks over the walkie-talkie channel: “Group 1, reporting.  Over.”
Dustin speaks.  “Group 4, tuned in.  Over.”
The other groups tune in, too.  Nancy continues in a hushed voice.  “Food supply is running low so we’re going to double up.  The mandate will be really strict.  Can’t take chances.  Over.”
Jonathan tells her to keep them posted with the ETA.
El comes onto the walkie-talkie, asking for you.
You take it, speaking: “Bauman squared, I copy. Over.”
Eleven tells you that she can see you all headed there to the lab, and that no one is nearby.  You’re safe.
Hopper adds: “But Eddie, make sure that you stay tuned into this channel and relay it to Dustin just in case.  Over.”
Eddie’s song of woe dies on his lips with an anxious exhale.  “Roger that, over.”
Steve speaks up, “Alright guys, we’re here.”
Dustin signals Murray, right on cue.  You all stare up at the looming electric fence in front of you.  It’s tall.  At least 30 feet up.  You gulp.  So does Jonathan.  For Steve, it’s easy.  For Dustin, well, it’s exciting.
Jonathan adds to the relayed info, addressing Murray, saying, “Yeah, uhhh, it’s pretty high up man?”
Murray’s tone comes through, crisp.  “How high is high?”
Jonathan visibly shrinks back as he squints in the sunlight. “Like...25-30 feet?”
Murray curses on the other side, frustrated.  “Alright, hold please.”
Steve turns over to face you all, starting with you.  “It’s gonna be a helluva climb.”
You nod.  “We’ll have to double up the speed, guys.  But for safety, let’s just do two at a time.”
Jonathan’s brow furrows.  “Why?”
You tell them it’s safest this way.  This way, two people can gauge the timing of it just in case.  Dustin immediately demands to go in the first group, which Steve shuts down promptly — like all good mothers would with their favorite child.  He starts to onboard Jonathan, but you’re already saying you’ll go as you tighten up your bag.  Steve looks at you, hesitant.
You look back at him, giving him a nod.  “No arguments.”
Steve sighs through his nose.  “Yeah, I figured as much.”
He’s so sexy when he isn't actually hating you, and instead just consistently miffed with you…
“Group 4, listen up,” Murray’s voice comes over the walkie-talkie.  “I’m signaling the switch now.  On my mark, it will take exactly 3 minutes for it to activate.  You’ll have 60 seconds to climb it.  Up and down.  That’s it.  Remember what I said: haul ass.”
Dustin responded back with a sigh, “Steve and Bauman Squared insist on going two at a time so…”  He dreads the next question, cringing before asking.  “Any chance you guys can…do it…twice?”
You turn around, waiting to hear your uncle’s reply and wondering if you’ll need to step in.  His befuddled response confirms, yes you will, and you walk over to take the walkie.
“Uncle Murray, it’s not very sturdy.  It’s too big a risk, four at a time.  If you can’t do it, then just me and Steve will go.  What can we do?  Over.”
You speak matter-of-factly, which Steve appreciates.  He stands with his hands on his hips and tongue between his teeth, all hot and mom-like.  Even though for you...he’s giving daddy.
Eddie has been pacing a trough into the grass.  Please let me have company, he thinks.
Jonathan’s just quiet, wondering if now is a good time to tell everyone that he’s actually afraid of heights.
Dustin just wants to fucking climb already.
“Workin’ on it.  Standby.”  Your uncle’s monotone voice makes you all wait.
You stare up at the fence while you do.  Then, turning your face over in Steve’s direction, you find that he’s already gazing over at you.  That fondness in his eyes is back, and you feel your cheeks flush under the sun.  But it’s not the sun making you blush.  Steve's hands are still on his tips, and he gives you a tiny wink before turning to look back at Dustin with the walkie-talkie.  He tells his kid not to stress about it if they can’t come, which only starts a back-and-forth argument between mother and son.  But Erica’s voice cuts through it over the walkie.
“Group 4 nerds, listen up.  We found a way to do it.  Over.”
Dustin pumps his fist in glee.  Jonathan doesn’t.  Eddie realizes he’s doomed, back to being there all alone.
Steve takes the walkie, asking, “Same timeframes, Murray?  Over?”
Your uncle confirms it, but then Lucas is in the background saying, “Wait, are you sure this will give them 60 seconds?”
Steve raises an eyebrow at that.  But you’re looking at the top of the fence.  The end of the other side of the line is quiet for a hot minute.  No doubt, Murray and the kids are beefing.  Re-calculating.  Beefing some more.  Getting attitudes.  Then finally —
“Erica to group 4, confirming.  Timeframes are exact.  Wait for us to signal the 2nd climb.  Standby and brace for 1st climb.  Over.”
You and Steve look at each other.  Here we go.  He fastens his backpack, reaching out a hand to you and telling you to hand over yours.  You go to protest, but he’s just insisting without budging and reaching anyway.  It isn’t until his hand starts to slide the strap down your shoulder that you huff and relent.
“30 seconds to climb.”
“There’s a ledge up there, wide enough to stand on.”  You nod up at it as you tell Steve.  “If we run low on time, we hang there until the 2nd climb.”
Steve nods at you, agreeing.  He turns and relays that to a very anxious Jonathan and a very antsy Dustin.  You gesture over to Dustin, telling him to toss you his backpack.  Steve goes to argue but you hold up a hand.
“Better me than him," you say quickly. It’s a parental thing that he would insist on too, so he lets you win that one.
Dustin obeys after seeing mom agree with…um…dad? Are you dad?
“10 seconds to climb.”
Steve talks fast, in position to pounce.  “Eddie, on go, toss that branch to hit the fence.  Double check for sparks.”  Eddie nods, picking up the large branch nearby.  You get in position with Steve.
“5…4…3…2…1…climb!”
Eddie tosses the branch.  No electric shock.  All systems go.
You and Steve hop as high as you can, climbing up like champs.  You both hustle, swiftly making the climb like pro climbers.  Steve is faster, planning to reach down and lift you the rest of the way if he gets to the top first.  But you’re almost right at the same level with him, almost at the top.
…until your bag catches.
The strap of Dustin’s bag pulls you back down.  Air catches in your throat, no scream escaping your mouth as it swings you around, unhooks and makes you fall back some feet.  But you latch back onto the wall, back down to midway.  Fuck.
Dustin gasps, Jonathan shouts your name.  Eddie starts his shit-shit-shit chant.
You look down, realizing that it’s way too far of a drop to just fall back down and start over.  You are literally back to the mid-way point.
You make up your mind within a few seconds: keep going.
Steve is hoisting himself up onto the thick ledge as this is happening, and when he turns to see you lower his heart stops.
“Bauman, what happened??"
But you keep climbing, shouting, “Steve, just keep going.”
But Steve is not having that.  He’ll fucking wait.  Hell, he’ll wait for Dustin too.  He’s staying put.  He shakes his head, clapping his hands and reaching for you even though you still have another fourth of the wall to mount before you reach him.
“30 more seconds.”  Oh thank God, that’s plenty.
”You got this, Bauman, c’mon...” Steve’s ready to hold you again.  Anxious.  So fucking anxious.
Dustin is cheering too, along with Eddie and Jonathan.  You’re fine.  Almost there.
You look at Steve at the top, leaning over the side looking down at you. You can see the anxious anticipation in his brown eyed gaze.
“20 more seconds.  Group 2, don’t forget to wait for our signal.”
But right as Murray stops talking — the wall buzzes.
Everything happens in slow motion.  One second feels like a whole minute for all 5 of you in your group.  Your ears perk up at the sound.  That wasn’t an insect.  That’s mechanic.  That’s —
“Was that —”  Eddie barely started to ask the question you were all wondering.
“Fuck, Bauman — !!! ”  Jonathan’s voice is panicked with realization.
Steve’s brow furrowed, alarm and horror sweeping across his entire face.
You feel a scorch so hot, fire itself couldn’t have burned as badly as the electric shock that shot through your entire body did.
In that single second, you felt your brain short circuit.
You felt your hands get shoved away from the wall, throwing you off with blinding force.
You felt your throat snap, and you felt your heart rumble inside of your chest...
And then you felt it stop.
*****************************
:( im sorry, Steve.
author notes: I am sure that the fence thing might be weird and not accurate, but it helped my vision for how this chapter goes down. so I hope you all will be kind and not find it too "unrealistic." had to watch some stuff like the OG Jurassic Park, and get ideas for it.

Hawkins High Library.
10:30am.
~~~~~
After that rather thrilling event courtesy of Eddie Munson and Principal Higgins, the next two hours went on forever.
The grinding of gears, the hum of the electric motor, and the movement of the clock's hands invaded the silence. The second hand made a rapid clicking sound. You counted each one. At twenty-second intervals, the minute hand squeaked. The clock sounds became the percussion for a lullaby that almost lulled you to sleep.
Eddie remained seated next to you, spending the better part of an hour sulking that he had just wrecked the rest of his winter. The rest of the time, he spent scratching markings into the table with his car keys (which you immediately told him to stop out of annoyance. He ignored you, of course) and counting all the pictures he can see in the medullary rays of the wood. In his mind, he connected the lines and dots. Before his eyes, they formed the crude outline of a shapely woman with her legs rudely spread apart. He used the notebook paper to cover it up. He did not want to spend the next five and a half hours with a boner he couldn't get rid of. Especially one given to him by something as ridiculous as an imaginary table lady.
Steve was lazily picking off the fuzz of a tennis ball that he found in the lost and found box behind the front desk, piling it up in a small illuminous heap. The bald patches reminded him of principal Higgin's round, balding head. He picked at it harder, really digging his fingernails into the stringy felt like it had personally offended him.
Nancy was trying to write her paper. Normally, the undisturbed silence would be prime time to work on an essay, but she began staring off into space, her mind wondering. All she had managed to write was a title 'Who Am I?', her name, the date, and the time. Each time she would bring herself back to reality, she would check her watch, then erase the time and write the new one.
Robin was hunched over, hidden in her hair as she scribbled over her cherry red converse. She wrote whatever came to mind; her name, milk duds, a drawing of the top half of a naked woman, a copy of her fingerprint. She kept going until the red had almost disappeared.
You rested your head in your palms, eyes looking up as you counted the tiles on the ceiling. You got to thirty eight when Eddie nudged you. You opened your mouth to scold him for making you lose count, when he slid a sheet of paper over to you. He'd drawn a tic-tac-toe grid and placed an X in the centre square. You grabbed a pencil and drew a circle in the top right corner, deciding to keep him entertained before he starts causing more trouble. He smiled cutely when you slid the paper back to him.
The two of you played until both sides looked like a gingham tea towel. Much to your distaste, you lost 38 - 43. Eddie pulled tongues as the victor and you decided then to never play tic-tac-toe with Eddie again; you didn't want his head getting bigger than it already was.
The library door swung open and Principal Higgins stood with a scowling face.
"All right. Who has to go to the rest room?"
All hands shot up.
Higgins gave a single nod, signalling that everyone could get out of their seats. You groaned in relief when your spine cracked, though you still had pins and needles in your left foot and your butt was numb from sitting on it for too long. The Principal lead you all down the hall to the restrooms, where he unlocked them with a jingling of keys.
"Two minutes for the boys. Three minutes for the girls." He stared at his watch like he was already starting the count down.
"How come they get an extra minute?" Eddie complained, pointing at the group of girl who all had their arms crossed, looking at him like the answer was obvious.
"Try and remember your biology, Munson." Principal Higgins rolled his eyes, still staring at his watch.
"Oh, right. Does that mean Harrington gets another minute?"
Annoyed, Steve pushed through into the bathroom. Eddie followed behind, laughing manically.
The two of them rarely used the schools restroom, even for Eddie who was kind of a slob, they were too disgusting. Students only ever really used them to hide when skipping classes. The walls were covered in graffiti and a few of the tiles were cracked, and there was always something on the floor that made the bottom of their shoes sticky. They didn't even want to try to guess what it was. Steve stood in front of the urinal and unzipped his jeans. Eddie hopped onto the countertop and fished through his hair to retrieve the cigarette from behind his ear.
"You want one?"
Steve took a peek behind him. "Oh yeah, ten of 'em please. I need to prove I'm a man."
"Whatever man." That was the last time Eddie would offer Steve anything ever again.
He fumbled in his pocket, took out a lighter and lit his cigarette.
Meanwhile, the state of the girls bathroom wasn't much better. The floors were less sticky, but there was always tissue all over the place, and a funny smell in the air.
"Is this a drag, or what?" You looked at your tired eyes in the reflection and started complaining about them to the girls.
Nancy rummaged through her purse, pulling out perfume bottles, make-up, compacts, brushes; an incredible amount of things that she probably didn't need. Nancy very helpfully let you borrow the make-up out of her bag. You were looking as good as new in no time.
"You want one?" Robin pulled out a pack of spearmint gum and stuck one in her mouth.
You looked at her repulsed. "Robin, you can't eat in the bathroom. What if you get VD of the mouth or something!"
She paused like she hadn't thought about that. She quickly walked to the sink and washed her hands. She grabbed a paper towel to dry them and then used it to open the door. She held the door open with her foot, wadded up the paper towel and made a three pointer into the waste bin. A shot that even Steve would find impressive, even if she did surprise herself making it in the first place. She didn't show that though.
"You're into washing your hands, but you eat inches away from a live toilet?"
She gave you an offended glare her, and left the bathroom, letting the door close on you and Nancy. You turned to Nancy and gave her a look that said 'I'm not crazy for thinking that am I?'.
"I mean that was a little disgusting, but you could have worded it a bit nicer."
She walked out, leaving you wondering whose side she was on.
"I didn't mean to upset you." You called after Robin. "I was just reacting to something I thought was seriously weird. I mean, I'll listen if you needed some one to talk to about it."
Robin didn't give you the time of day, just rolled her eyes to herself. She didn't appreciate the way you worded your apology; like she was the one with the problem.
"Let's go. Shake it off!" Higgins called into the boys bathroom.
Even with the extra minute you were given, the girls still managed to be done before the boys. Eddie opened the door, smelling strongly of tobacco.
"Where's Harrington?"
"Drowned." Eddie said bluntly.
The Principal crossed to the door and peaked his head in. "Alright, Harrington, c'mon. Lets go!"
Steve made a few final adjustments to his hair, raking his fingers through it to position his chestnut curls perfectly on his head. Principal Higgins dragged him out before he could finish.
~~~~~
11:30am
~~~~~
You laid across three chairs as some sort of make shift bed and tucked your coat underneath your head for a pillow. You had planned to take a nap, but Nancy had decided to sharpen her pencil. The winding and grinding of the sharpener grated your ears. She knew she was making a lot of noise, but she couldn't seem to get a good point on her pencil. She took it out of the sharpener, blew the dust from the tip, and examined it before shoving it back in. She had three quarters left of her pencil.
Steve had a straight leg on the front table and reached over to touch his toes, stretching his hamstring. How he did it in those jeans was beyond you. His little grunts of effort and heavy breaths as he switched legs annoyed you almost as much as Nancy's sharpening. Robin was in her same seat, picking at her black, chipped nails in her lap and chewing her gum loudly out of spite. How you had gone from sitting in hours of silence, to a sudden ruckus when you wanted to sleep was just your luck.
Eddie had chosen to sit in front of you on the table, ripping out pages of textbooks from the history section.
Nancy winced at each tear. "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing, Princess? I'm vandalising public property." He said it like it was obvious, loudly ripping another page to emphasise his point. "You get off on being stupid, or something?"
"You're such a waste."
Eddie placed the book gently on the table, giving it a few taps for good measure. He sat up straight, hands on his knees like a teachers pet. He nodded sarcastically in agreement. "You're absolutely right. It's wrong to destroy literature. It's such fun."
He jumped down off the desk, kicking up loose pages as he stalked over to his next victim: the card files. He pulls out the entire draw completely and lugged it back over to his spot on the desk. The unexpected slam of it on the table startled you, and you sat up with a huff. There was no way you were getting sleep any time soon.
Nancy scoffed as he began yanking the catalogue cards out and putting them back in a random order, creating a horrible mess for someone to sort out later. She continued to grind the sharpener.
"Big deal." You mocked her, she and the sharpener were really starting to get on your nerves. "It's not like there's anything better to do."
Eddie was impressed. He turned to you. "You grounded tonight?"
His question threw you off, but you knew there was definitely more to it. "No, why?"
He looked surprised that you weren't, but he didn't know that your parents weren't even aware you were here in the first place. "Reefer Rick is throwing a Halloween party down by Lover's Lake tonight. Wanna come?"
Apparently, all it took was a few games of tic-tac-toe to get into Eddie's good books. There was a part of you that wanted to go. It was another excuse to get away from your parents, but you didn't want to imagine the shit you would get from Carol if she found out you had gone to a party with Eddie 'The Freak' Munson. Then Billy crept back into your mind. Your blood went cold at the thought. You knew he wasn't here, but you expected him to come charging through the doors any second now. You had to make sure he knew you weren't interested in Eddie. You didn't want another repeat of this morning.
"Why would I want to go to that crackhead's place? I'll probably catch a disease."
Eddie looked a little disappointed and a little offended that you had insulted his friend, but he hid it well. So why did you feel kind of bad?
You looked up at him with big eyes. "I mean, my mom doesn't like me going to parties anyway."
"What about your dad?"
"If I do what my mom doesn't want me to it's because my dad says it's okay.  And if I do what my dad doesn't want me to it's because my mom says it's okay. It's like this whole big monster deal. It lasts forever and it's a total drag. It's like any minute: divorce." You hated talking about your parents, but I felt good to get off your chest. Carol and Tommy never cared to ask.
"Who do you like better?"
"Huh?"
"You like your old man better than your mom?"
"They're both screwed." You sighed. You didn't like where this conversation was headed anymore. Nancy had stopped sharpening her pencil and you could feel everyone listening in.
"If you had to pick?"
"I don't know. I mean, they must have loved each other at some point, but I guess I wasn't around for that part. So I don't think any of them really care about me either. They just use me as ammunition in their little wars."
"HA!" Your response had provoked a laugh from Robin. A laugh that let you know she thought you deserved it. She was more offended by that comment in the bathroom than you had thought.
"You're just feeling sorry for yourself." Steve added, shaking out his legs.
You didn't find it very fair that they were ganging up on you all of a sudden. "If I didn't, nobody else would."
"Oh, you're breaking my heart." But Steve didn't sound sincere at all. You weren't enjoying this side of Steve one bit. And it was all because of Billy.
"Do you get along with your parents?" Eddie sided with you.
"If I say, yes, I'm a real idiot, right?"
"I think you're an idiot anyway. But if you say you get along with your parents, you'll be a liar, too."
"You know something, I've just about had it with you. If we weren't in school, man, I'd wail all over you. They'd have to pick you up with tweezers."
Eddie didn't seem fazed. Eddie got threats like this all the time, it wasn't anything he hadn't already heard before.
"I don't really get along with my parents." Nancy piped up, trying to get the boys attention away from each other so there wasn't a brawl in the middle of the library.
"Yeah right, you're every parent's wet dream."
"That's the problem." She paused, you saw her eyes glaze over then looked at you. "I don't think my parents ever loved each other either."
Everyone was silent, looking at her like they were waiting for her to burst into tears. She regretted bring it up.
"They must have married for some reason?" Steve asked. Whether it was because he was being nosey, or he was concerned for her, you couldn't tell.
"My mom was younger. My dad was older, but he had a cushy job, money, came from a good family. So they bought a nice house at the end of the cul-de-sac and started their nuclear family."
"Screw that."
"Yeah, screw that."
"I could see you not liking them for making you wear those kind of clothes, but, shit, what else would you be doing if you weren't busy making yourself a better citizen?" Eddie clearly hadn't read the room.
"Why do you have to insult everybody?" Eddie was really pushing Steve's limits. You noticed it happened especially when it came to Nancy.
"I'm being honest, asshole. I'd expect you to know the difference." He said it like he had had a similar argument with Steve in the past.
Nancy raised her middle finger at him.
"Whoa, obscene gestures from such a pristine girl."
"I'm not that pristine." Nancy argued, though she regretted it almost immediately.
She cleared her throat and make her way back to her seat.
"Are you a virgin?" She caught Steve's eye, they shared a look, but Eddie missed it. "I'll bet you a million dollars that you are."
"Would you take that bet, Robin?"
"Not really."
"That's the last time I call you 'Robin', Buckley."
He continued. "Have you ever been felt up? Over the bra, under the blouse, shoes off...hoping to God your parents don't walk in?"
Nancy was getting upset. "Do you want me to puke?"
"Over the panties, no bra, blouse unbuttoned, Calvin's in a ball on the front seat past eleven on a school night?"
You squeezed your thighs together. His voice was deep and masculine, sending you off into an alluring day dream. You found yourself in the back seat of a car, a strong man towering over you, rough hands caressing your soft skin. He takes off your bra, exposing your breasts to the cold air of the night, nipples hardening. He's groping them, kissing them, loving on them. Your moaning and he's trailing his lips lower. Your hands thread themselves in his brown, wavy hair. He's pulling your panties down with his teeth, looking up at you with those big brown eyes of his. And suddenly you were in the back of his van, pulling off his patched, demin jacket until he's leaning over you completely naked. He put his lips to your ear, whispering --
"Hey, why don't you leave her alone!" Steve breaks you out of your imagination.
"You gonna make me?"
"Yeah."
"You and whose army?"
"Just me and five of my fingers. I hit you. You hitting floor. Anytime you're ready."
Eddie realised that Steve was being serious, but doesn't believe he is quite capable of making good on his threat.
"Yeah? You want a black eye to go with that split lip? You couldn't fight Billy Hargrove, what makes you think you can beat me?"
Your chest tightened at his name and your eyes darted to the door. They stayed shut. It calmed you a little, but your heart was still beating against your ribcage. You placed a hand there in case it burst out. You wondered how Eddie knew about the fight at the party, you hadn't seen him there. But then again, word travels fast around Hawkins High. Your breathing became heavy. All this arguing was making you dizzy. You could do without a repeat of last Thursday.
"Try me."
"Eddie." You pleaded him not to retaliate, swallowing down your pride for a second of peace.
He looked at you, and suddenly Eddie was not in the mood to fight Steve. The fear in your eyes scared him a little. You were serious about them not fighting. But luckily for you, Eddie knew when to stop. Besides, there were ladies present, and he was a gentleman.
To some extent.
 "Whatever man, I'm not getting into this with you."
"Why not?"
"Why not?" He paused. He wasn't going to tell Steve he did it for you. "'Cause I'd kill you. It's real simple, you'd die and your fucking parents would sue me and It'd be a big mess and I don't care enough about you to bother. So drop it."
"Chicken."
"You know, you should see a doctor. I think those steroids are frying your brain."
Steve just laughed him off, believing that he had scared Eddie into yielding and he was just giving one last dig to preserve his pride. Eddie looked a Nancy, but she was already staring at him.
"What is it that makes you act like such a fool?"
"I'm not getting enough vitamin B."
Steve fumed. He wanted his fist to connect with that smartass mouth of his. "Let's end this right now. You don't talk to her...you don't look at her and you don't even think about her! You understand me?"
"I'm trying to help her." He said it like it was as plain as a pikestaff.
"Help me?" Nancy was insulted. "Why don't you work on yourself?"
"I did. I finished last Tuesday. Now I'm working on the rest of the world." He pointed at Steve, who looked about ready to swing. "I could help you, big boy."
"Spare me."
"I can help a lot of people, all they have to do is ask nicely."
"I'll kill you." Steve threatened with a clenched fist.
Eddie looked unmoved. He heard threats like that at least five times a day. "Well, I should just let you and everyone else who wants to kill me fight for the privilege."
There was a rumbling from beyond the library door. In a flurry of panic, everyone got themselves into position, acting like they hadn't moved an inch away from their seats. Eddie sat next to you again, accidently kicking your foot under the table. You kicked it back in annoyance. He did it again, only on purpose this time. 'What a child' you thought. You put your coat on the back of your chair and sat up straight, expecting Principal Higgins to come storming in.
Everybody visibly relaxed when Carl, the janitor, came rumbling in with his music playing quietly from his radio, dragging his cart behind him. He had a face you didn't quite know how to take; he looked friendly enough, but could turn at the snap of your fingers. He was skinny and stood at a height of 5"8, with a limp of a man who worked hard for his living. He smiled everyone, but the only one who seems the acknowledge him was Robin. She returned the smile and gave him a small wave, in hopes of being nice but not letting the others see. He went into the librarians office and grabbed the waste basket.
"Hey Sweetheart, your dad's here."
You gave him an unamused smile and kicked his shin under the desk once more.
Carl came out of the office and dumped the basket on his cart. He left his cart in the main library and walked down the pathway to grab another trash bin at the back of the room.
"Hey, Carl?"
Carl paused in surprise that any student here, with the exception of Robin, would talk to him. He turned around, but Eddie still remained facing the front, putting his back to him.
"How does one become a janitor."
Everyone supressed a giggle, even Steve despite his dislike for Eddie. Only Robin remained silent. She didn't find it very funny.
"You want to become a janitor?" Carl raised an eyebrow.
"No I just wanna know how one becomes a janitor because Steve here, is very interested in perusing a career in the custodial arts."
Steve stopped laughing at that. Carl scratched his head. He knew that they were making fun of him. But Carl wasn't one someone should mess with. He turned off his radio, pulled off his rubber gloves and shoved them in his back pocket.
"You guys think I'm just a lowly janitor. Some fucking untouchable peasant. Maybe so, but following a broom around after shitheads like you for five years, I've learned a few things. I read your notes, I go through your letters. I listen to your conversations. I am the eyes and ears of this institution. I know where you are now and I know where you'll be in the future."
Everyone exchanged worried looks as Carl moved to tower in front of Eddie. "You got ten years, max. Drugs. Rundown trailer in West Texas. Whore wife takes the baby, you shoot a fatal dose. Probable? Maybe not. Possible? Think so."
He turned to you. "You get married to a guy with lots of material success. Corporate position. Big bucks. Black Jag. You have three kids, nobody gives a shit. You get divorced and have a big fuckin' heart attack at thirty-eight, thirty-nine."
Steve was next. "District sales manager for a golf club manufacturer. Shitty little compact company car, twenty-two five a year and a wife as big as a boxcar."
Finally, Nancy. "Six face-lifts and two boob jobs by forty and a husband with more girlfriends than anniversaries."
He stepped back and put on his gloves. The stunned reaction on everybody's faces made him smile. "But I'm just a janitor." He shrugged.
And with that, he grabbed his cart, wheeled it around and headed out. He paused at the door and looked at the clock.
"By the way, that thing's twenty minutes slow." He winked as he left and everybody groaned.
~~~~~
12:30pm
~~~~~
Everybody was bored out of their skulls after the shock of Carl's speech had worn off. You took the time to think about what he had said. He had tried to put a downer on you, but the life he had predicted for you sounded like paradise, compared to now. Even if you did only have twenty years left to live. As crazy as it sounded, it gave you a bit of hope. There was a chance that you could work up the courage to leave Billy and meet someone nice, or at least wealthy. You had never given any thought about having kids, especially not with Billy, but now, maybe you could see yourself with a kid. You'd want a boy, and he'd look just like his father; Curly brown hair, big russet eyes, and a toothy smile. What would you name him? Would you name him after his father? Maybe Michael, or Christopher, James. Edward? You liked that name.
Your eyes flashed to the door as it opened. Principal Higgins strolled in with a frown of his face, even though no one had done anything to upset him yet.
Yet.
"Thirty minutes for lunch." He declared.
"Excuse me Sir, I think the cafeteria would be a more suitable place to eat lunch."
"I don't care what you think, Harrington."
Steve sunk back into his seat.
"Uh, Dick?" Eddie cleared his throat. "Sorry, Richard. Will milk be made available to us? Someone like Steve could choke to death on a dry sandwich."
"I have a low tolerance for dehydration, Sir." Robin added.
"I've seen her dehydrated, Sir." Steve sat up again. "It's pretty gross."
You wondered if that was true, or if he was just playing along. The things he said about her, you wondered if they knew each other. Probably not, you brushed off the thought. They were on complete opposite ends of the spectrum, there was no way they knew each other.
Principal Higgins scowled.
Eddie stood and raised his hands like he was trying to calm a wild animal. "Relax, I'll get it."
"Ah,ah,ah. Grab some wood there, Munson. You think I was born yesterday? You don't fool me for one minute. I'm not having you roaming these halls."
Eddie plopped back into his seat with a defeated sigh. It was worth a shot.
"You." He pointed at Steve.
He eyed up the other students, skipping over Eddie as he decided who else was most suitable to leave. You sank into your seat. You did not fancy having some alone time with Steve. Steve stared directly at the Principal before darting his eyes to the right where Nancy was sat, signalling for him to pick her. She sat up to make herself more evident.
Higgins ignored them and pointed a finger at you. "And you. There's a soft drinks machine in the faculty lunch room."
You broke into a cold sweat. This was going to be the most awkward ten minutes of your life. Either Steve was just going to pretend you didn't exist, or he was going to absolutely grill you. You hoped for the former.
As you reluctantly got out of your seat, Steve held out a hand to the others for money. Nancy took out a change purse from her bag and handed him fifty cents. Robin does the same with the loose change in her jeans pocket. Eddie fished through his coat pockets. He found some assorted change, crumpled gum wrappers, some loose tobacco and a screw. He handed it all to Steve.
Steve made his way out, not even looking to see if you're following him. You do, of course, but you lagged behind him, not feeling particularly comfortable being alone with him. You counted your steps as you walked, fiddling with the delicate chain around your neck. It was a simple design: just your name written with gold, cursive lettering. But it was the only jewellery you never took off. Your parents had bought it for you when you had started cheerleading at eight years old. It was a reminder of when life was much more simple, when you believed that your parents actually loved each other, that they loved you.
A minute passed and you already couldn't stand the silence. You dreaded it, but you knew this would probably be the only opportunity you would get to hash out your grievances.
"Why do you hate me?" A forward start, but at least it's a start.
"You know why."
"Look, what Billy did wasn't my fault --"
"Of course it is. If you hadn't been there in the first place he wouldn't've showed up."
"Hey, I didn't even tell him I was going to that stupid party. He was there anyway. If you hadn't come over and butted into our argument, maybe you wouldn't have that split lip."
"My parties aren't stupid."
"Is that seriously all you took from that?"
"No..." He paused. After hearing your side of the story, he was beginning to feel like a fool. "What were you guys even arguing about?"
You sighed. "Billy and I had plans to go to this drive in movie theatre. I don't think he wanted to watch a movie though, I think he was just hoping to get lucky." The two of you had stopped walking. Steve looked at you intently, encouraging you to carry on. You shifted on your feet. "If I'm being completely honest I didn't really want to go, but then Carol asked me to go to your party and I took it as an excuse not to go with Billy. I knew he would be angry if I cancelled our plans last minute, so I told him I was sick. Biggest fucking mistake of my life."
"So you went to the party and Billy caught you out in your lie."
"Yeah. Turns out one of his friends had asked him to go but he'd declined 'cause we were going on a date. He accepted the offer once I'd cancelled our plans."
Steve started walking again. You followed next to him this time. "I know Billy is a bit of a shitbag, but why didn't you want to go on your date? I mean, it seemed like a good time."
There was no such thing as a 'good time' with Billy. He had his moments, sure, but he was as cranky as a wet hen. Time with him was like trying to swim with rocks on your back. He sucked all the fun out of everything until you started drowning. You didn't tell Steve that though.
"I just wasn't in the mood to be around him, is all." You brushed him off. "But he's bringing it up all the time, and were arguing all of the time. Even in school."
"Is that why you're here today?"
His question made you pause. He stopped a couple of steps ahead of you and turned around when he saw you weren't next to him anymore. You played it off like you were itching your leg and jogged up to him. The two of you made it to the teacher's lounge.
The first thing you noticed was that it was very brown. The floor and ceiling had the same white speckled tile that ran throughout the entire school, but everything else was just ... brown. Brown wallpaper, brown leather sofas, brown table, brown countertop. Even the fridge was brown. The vending machine was in the far corner.
"Why are you here?" You asked Steve, hoping he hadn't realised that you hadn't answered his question.
"Me? I'm here because my father and my coach don't want me to blow my ride." He started feeding the change into the machine. "They think my intensity's for shit. You see, I have a different set of standards. I get treated different because Coach thinks I'm a star. So does my old man. But you know what? I don't care. I'm not a star because I want to be a star, I'm a star because I got good legs and reflexes. I'm like a racehorse. That's about how involved I am in what's happening to me."
You nodded, but you had a suspicion that that wasn't the whole truth. "Yeah, so why are you really here?"
Steve was annoyed that he hadn't managed to persuade you. "Forget it."
You studied the set of lockers on the other side of the room. You walked over to them out of curiosity, trying your luck with one of the doors. To your surprise it opened.
Steve caught you out of the corner of his eye. "You really shouldn't be doing that."
Inside lay a set of keys attached to a green Hawkins High lanyard, a pack of cigarettes, a 'thank you teacher' mug, and a Prince's Purple Rain album on vinyl. Steve came up behind you, looking inside and letting the soda cans thunk loudly at the bottom of the vending machine.
"This is a teacher's stuff?" He asked surprised.
"Yeah. Does this mean that they're actually human?" You laughed together for the first time.
Daringly, you pocketed the pack of cigarettes in your cardigan pocket and took the record.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. No, put them back."
"C'mon Steve, when are you ever going into the teacher's lounge again? Besides, it'll give us something to do while were stuck in that god damned library."
You shut the locker door and brushed past him. You gathered up the soda cans, giving Steve his share to carry and made your way back to the library.
"It was pretty strange looking at teacher's personal shit, huh?" You said, examining the purple record sleeve.
Steve shrugged, he'd seen stranger things. "I went over to Coach's house for dinner once during the summer. It was really weird to see how he lives."
He paused, anticipating a question, but you just looked at him to carry on.
"His wife was fat. And one of his kids was in a wheelchair. It was kinda sad. He was a nice kid."
"If he invites you over to his house, why does he shit on you?"
"He and my old man are working to get me a scholarship. It's not an economic issue. Scholarships make the newspaper. They think I have a shot at a full ride. They think I deserve a Big Ten school."
You simply nodded and walked through the library doors. The others were gathered in the corner by the comfy chairs. Eddie was holding a book opened to a page displaying a man with elephantitus to the nuts like he was reading children a bedtime story.
"How do you suppose he rides a bike?"
The clattering of soda cans on the table drew their attention away. They all walked over to grab a can. Before the others could take one, Eddie reached out and shook one furiously.
You look at him like he was crazy. Perhaps he was. "That's going to spray all over you."
"Not necessarily."
He put the drink back with the others and moved the cans around so than no one would know which was was shook up.
"You're such a dingus." Robin bravely took a can first.
Everyone else followed before taking their seats and pulling out their lunches. You simply took out an apple, loosing your appetite after seeing a man with elephantitus to the nuts. You noticed Eddie didn't have any lunch as he surveyed everyone else's.
"Where's your lunch?"
"You're wearing it." He winked.
You curled your lip in disgust, but felt about as red as your apple.
"You're nauseating." Nancy complained, opening her lunch.
"Look who's talking. You don't care what you put in your mouth." He eyed Nancy's lunch like she had just shown him a plate full of snails. "What is that?"
"Sushi."
"Sushi?"
"Rice, raw fish, and seaweed."
"You wont accept a guys tongue in your mouth, but you'll eat that?"
She scoffed impatiently. "Can I eat?"
"I don't know, give it a try."
The room went silent as everybody watched Steve pull out his lunch from a large brown grocery bag; three sandwiches, a family-sized bag of chips, an apple, a banana, a bag of cookies and a carton of milk.
"Are you really going to eat all that?" Robin asked in shock.
"No, I'm only going to eat half."
"What are you going to do with the other half?"
"Shoving it up Eddie's ass."
How charming. He reached for his can and everybody shrunk away, thinking it might explode. He cracked the tab.
Nothing happened.
Robin took out a sandwich covered in saran wrap. She unwrapped it and pulled the bread apart, starting to work on it like a mad scientist. She tossed the meat away, blindly whipping it to the side. It slapped on the wall and stuck there. She reached into her sweater pocket and pulled out a bag of chocolate M&M's. She tore the bag open and dumped all of it on the buttered bread. Out of her coat pocket she pulled out a little baggie filled with Captain crunch cereal and sprinkled it over the M&M's. She closed the mess of a sandwich and took a huge bite. She noticed that everyone was watching her.
"You are bizarre." Eddie thought Steve's lunch was bad.
She reached for her Pepsi to wash it all down. She put it to her mouth and popped it. The soda sprayed cleanly into her mouth.
After the fizz was gone, she smirked at Eddie. "Nice try, dingus."
"What do you have?" He turned to you, watching take a bite into your apple.
You handed your bag over to him, rather than speaking with a full mouth. He started pulling things out. He pulled out a sandwich, a thermos of soup, which he opened and give a big whiff, and a bottle of water.
"Well Sweetheart, this is a very nutritious lunch. All the food groups are represented. Did your mom marry Mr. Rodgers?"
Eddie stood so he was front and centre of the room, all eyes on him.
"This is my impression of life at our darling Sweetheart's house." He gestured to you and your face flushed.
"Hello, dear. I'm home from the coalmine." Eddie impersonated your father.
Eddie quickly played your mother. "Oh, hello, sweetie pie. Dinner's almost ready. I'm serving stuffing instead of potatoes."
"My favourite!"
His voice turned high and shrill, playing you. "Hi, Dad! Yippee, you're home! I danced in a skimpy skirt in front of hundreds of people today. I went to church and I wrote Grandma a letter. Now can I have a pen pal?"
"Dear, isn't our daughter swell?"
Quiet and motherly. "Yes Dear, isn't life swell?"
Eddie mimed your mother kissing your father, then father kissing mother, and then your father punching your mother in the face. Suddenly it was not so funny anymore.
Your eyes were wet. You hated how much that hurt. It wasn't his words that hurt you, it was how much you wished it were true.
You bravely stood up. "No, it's more like --"
"Dad? Is it okay if I shoot heroin?"
You lowered your voice, playing your father. You held an imaginary newspaper in your hands, not taking your eyes off it and pretending that you weren't paying attention. "If it'll make you happy, pumpkin."
You extended your fingers and blew on them, doing your mother and her fresh nail polish. "What are you talking about, Frank?! How's she going to wear her Sunday dress with holes in her arms? We are going to church aren't we?
"It's okay. Never mind. I won't be a junkie." You said sadly.
"Now, just wait a minute. If you want to be a junkie--"
"I'm not going to be the only woman at the congregation with a junkie daughter. Now what about church?" Your mother said.
"Go by yourself!" Said your father.
"With pleasure! I'm taking Y/N."
"Over my dead body!"
"I love her more than you do!"
"Go to hell!"
Everyone looks at you with a hint of sympathy. Even Eddie.
"Do you wish they'd get a divorce?" He asked.
"No."
"Why not?"
"I'd have to live with one or the other. And I don't know which one is worse." You laughed, but there was no humour behind it.
"Whose next?" Eddie ask, like he didn't already know he was going to single out Steve. Eddie pointed at him. "You're next."
"Yeah, no thanks."
"You an orphan?"
"I don't need to dump on my parents. Especially when they're not here to defend themselves." Eddie gave him a look like he was being chicken.
"What about your family?" Steve asked Eddie. He wanted him to have a taste of his own medicine.
"Mine? Real simple, pal."
He climbed onto the table, really setting the stage and getting himself into character. His eyelids lowered and his body moved clumsily, like he was drunk. "Stupid, worthless, no good, goddamn freeloading, son of a bitch, big mouth, know-it-all, asshole, jerk!"
He stands up straight, crossing his arms and raising the pitch of his voice. "You forgot ugly, lazy and disrespectful." His mother said.
"Shut up bitch!" He smacked the air, hitting his invisible mother. He yelled it so loud you were worried Higgins was about to storm through the door.
As his father, he threw a punch. Eddie dramatically dropped from the table and fell to the ground. He stood up, brushed himself off and took a bow. The show was over.
"Then they make me work to pay off the dentist for the teeth he busts."
"Is that for real?" Nancy looks like she's going to start crying for him.
"You wanna come over some time?"
She didn't want to believe that something like that could happen to anyone. Even someone as vexing as Eddie. Nancy decided then to never complain about her parents again.
"That's part of your image. I don't believe a word." Steve brushed him off. His re-enactment hadn't moved him at all.
You wondered if he was right. You had been so truthful about yours, you would feel ashamed if he had lied about his.
Eddie actually looked hurt. "You don't believe it, huh?"
He whipped off his red shirt and pulled up the sleeve of his black t-shirt. He shoved his arm in Steve's face, displaying a grotesque purple scar. Steve recoiled away from it, but Eddie forced him to look at it. You subtly tugged at the sleeve of your cardigan. You could feel the bruises of Billy's fingers purpling on your wrist.
"You believe that? It's about the size of a cigar." Eddie spoke through gritted teeth. "That's what you get in my house when you spill paint in the garage."
Eddie was breathless with anger. His muscles were tensed up so tightly he thought he was going to give himself a full-body cramp. He needed something to calm himself down. Luckily, he knew just the thing.
Tumblr media
"Babe, are you ready yet? Robin's already at the Wheeler's and we still gotta stop at the store for candy." Steve stands in front of the bathroom mirror, trying to get his hair slicked back just right, before securing Eddie's folded bandana around his forehead and finishing the look with a white construction hat.
"I think the Sinclair's are gonna do like a joint thing? I don't know, Nancy has the details, but we're setting up tables in the front yard." Steve waits for a reply, but frowns when he's met with silence. "Eds?"
He walks into their bedroom to find it empty, Eddie nowhere in sight. "Babe?" He checks the guest rooms, downstairs, the kitchen. Steve looks out the window over the sink and sighs when he sees Eddie's van gone.
"Asshole," he mutters to himself. "Could've told me he was going ahead." He checks himself in the mirror by the door and smooths down his fake mustache before grabbing his keys and throwing his jacket on.
He unlocks the Beemer and tries to ignore the feeling of eyes on him.
-
Maple Street is already packed with kids by the time he gets there. He pulls into the Wheeler's driveway and is even more confused when he doesn't see the van. Nobody at the house as seen him, either, and Steve pushes down his worry as he helps Karen and Sue stock the candy bowls.
As the night progresses, there's still no sign of Eddie. The kids come by a couple times but they haven't seen him either. Steve sneaks around the back of the house for a smoke when it gets closer to curfew. What if something happened to him on the way? He takes a nervous drag and a flash in the woods catches his attention. Immediately, he's on alert, eyes scanning the treeline.
It happens again. Against his better judgement, he investigates.
Leaves crunch under his shoes the further into the woods he gets. The hair on the back of his neck stands up, the feeling from earlier back. His stomach drops and his hands shake, cold washing over him as his eyes dart across the darkness.
He's being hunted.
He keeps his breathing under control but there's a swoosh from above and Steve suddenly finds himself face down in the dirt before he can scream. He thrashes and tries to knock whatever it is off him, desperately grasping at the dirt. Then, there's a hand on the back of his head and low, familiar chuckling in his ear.
"Looks like I win."
Steve's body goes limp with a muffled groan. The hand on his head disappears and he rolls over to see the smug grin on his boyfriend's face. Eddie's eyes flash red in the darkness and his grin turns feral, like the predator he is.
"Whadda'ya say, Stevie? Gonna let me suck your blood?"
Steve x Wednesday!reader and the gang really didn’t expect Steve to end up w someone so different from all his exs but also low-key think she’s way out of his league??? Found your fics and your writing is sick 😋😋😋😋
Thanks for your request sweetheart! I haven't written wednesday!reader before so idk if this was too much? Or too little? Anyway, I hope you like it, mwah <3
Steve Harrington x Wednesday!reader ♡ 698 words
You hadn't been at all nervous to meet Steve's friends. Really, they probably should have been more nervous about meeting you.
You could be a bit off-putting at first, with your impassive stare and clipped, to-the-point manner of speaking. The few other girlfriends Steve had introduced to his friends had greeted them with smiles and nervous laughter, and Steve had caught Dustin and Mike whispering about just that when you'd gone to the bathroom.
Overall, though, Steve thinks this is going pretty well. Nancy had liked your giant combat boots, Eddie loved that you had the same taste in music, and when the kids found out how much you knew about mages and battle strategy, they'd grilled you for a solid twenty minutes before Steve had called them off, complaining that he was going to dream about their nerd jargon that night if they didn't shut up.
Now, Eddie and the boys are discussing the edition of their nerd game they'll be playing next week (how it even changes from week to week, Steve can never figure out), and you seem to be listening with mild interest when you turn towards him suddenly.
"I have to go home," you say, in your matter-of-fact way. "I left a potion on the stove, and its six hours are almost up."
Steve blinks at you. He should be used to this by now, but sometimes your hobbies still take him by surprise. "Alright," he says after a moment. "What's the potion for?"
Impossibly, your expression darkens. "Something ate my venus fly traps, and I intend to find out what."
Steve declines to ask what you plan to do when you do find them, or how whatever you're brewing will accomplish that. "Okay," he stands, looking for where he left his keys. "I'll drive."
"No, you can stay," you say, as if it makes no difference to you. "I want to cut through the woods to find some belladonna on my way."
He's not going to ask what you want with the poisonous berries, either. "You sure, honey?" You nod, and Steve sits back down. He knows better than to bother arguing with you once you've made up your mind. "Okay, be safe, alright? Text me when you're home."
He tilts his chin up, and you lean down to peck him on the lips, a brief, chaste thing compared to what you prefer behind closed doors.
"Bye, Y/N!" Eddie calls, and a chorus of goodbyes follow you out. As soon as the door closes behind you, every eye in the room turns on Steve.
"Steve, what the hell? She's so cool." Dustin says, sounding almost shocked.
"Yeah," Eddie chimes in. "Where the hell have you been hiding her, Harrington?"
Steve grins proudly. He known they liked you, but it doesn't hurt to hear it out loud. "Yeah?"
"Um, yeah," Max says. "She's hilarious."
Robin nods enthusiastically. "She is! She's so funny, and smart, too. Honestly, Steve, it's a good thing you're nice, because she's, like, way out of your league."
Steve blinks. Okay, ouch. This compliment session seems to be taking an unexpected turn. Up until today, no one was out of Steve Harrington's league. "You really think so?"
"Duh." Robin looks around for support, but only Dustin is nodding, everyone else having fallen unusually silent. "Oh, you guys are cowards. She's gorgeous."
"I know that," Steve says defensively.
"She does have better hair than you," Nancy says, somewhat apologetically, "and that's kind of your thing, so."
Steve blows out an exasperated breath, slouching back in his seat. He thinks you have better hair than him, but he didn't know everyone else would think that. And of course you're far too good for him, but aren't these supposed to be his friends? Any modicum of loyalty they'd had between them seems to have vanished.
"Whatever," Steve says. "You guys are just jealous."
Eddie sighs, his eyes sparkling with exaggerated infatuation. "I know I am. Don't let her get away from you, Harrington, or I might take her for myself."
Steve rolls his eyes. As if he'd be dumb enough to let that happen. He's happy to be your charity case forever.
18+ MINORS DNI
The spicy six are choosing their Halloween costumes for each other. Eddie has Steve. The metalhead grinned menacingly at him.
"Oh God, you have me, don't you?" Steve asked with a groan. "Just. . .lay it on me."
"Hooker Eddie Munson," he replied, and Steve scoffed.
"Are you kidding me?" Steve asked.
"Afraid you won't be able to do it?" Eddie asked.
"No, I'm gonna bring it," he said, glaring at him.
It was the longest two weeks of Eddie's life, but eventually, the night of the party arrived. Eddie showed up to Steve’s, both nervous and eager to see what Steve would look like. When the door opened, Eddie had been disappointed to find that Robin had answered.
"Hey, Eddie, you're in for it tonight," Robin said with a giggle. "You thirsty? If not, you're going to be."
Before he could ask what she meant by that, Eddie was being pulled into the house and into the kitchen. Robin fixed him a red plastic cup of what looked like bloody punch, but when he sipped it, he found it to have alcohol in it. It was just the spicy six, and Eddie was glad for it, watching Robin as she flounced over to the other two stoners in the room. He had been to parties before to sell, but ever since Vecna, he hadn't wanted to do much partying, not that he joined in whenever he went to one. He found he liked low-key parties like this one.
"You're deep in thought," said a familiar voice from the doorway.
Eddie looked up and squeezed his cup so tightly that the liquid inside shot up into the air. Steve leaned against the doorframe, his long legs crossed over his ankles. He wore white stilettos with ripped fishnets over shaven legs. A tight, ripped black mini skirt stretched tightly over his thighs. His vest hung open to reveal that Steve was wearing a sparkling red bralette. His hair was done in a messy but still very neat way, and his eyeshadow was smeared over his eyes. He was smirking, his lips painted a very bright red. He walked closer towards him, heels clacking against the floor, and leaned on the island. Eddie looked down and saw his rings glinting on his hands. So, that's where they went.
"Cat got your tongue?" Steve asked.
"What do you charge?" Eddie blurted.
"Whatever you can give me, baby," Steve said, placing a hand on Eddie's chest.
"Everything. All of it. Everything that I own. It's yours," Eddie breathed heavily.
"Even your guitar?" Steve asked.
"Especially my guitar. Sweetheart is all yours," he said.
"Jesus, Eddie! Could you sound like more of a desperate slut?" Robin scoffed at her friends.
Steve grabbed him by the hips gleefully and pulled him closer. Eddie's legs buckled so badly that Steve had to lead him to a chair. Steve straddled his lap and took his face his hands, brushing his thumb against Eddie's cheek.
"You okay, baby?" Steve asked.
Eddie made a muffled groaning sound as if he tried to speak.
"What was that?"
"Not. Wearing. Underwear," Eddie managed to get out.
"Jesus, Eddie! Your nose is bleeding!" Robin screeched.
"Oh, man, I think you killed him," Argyle said, panicking. "I am NOT burying another body."
"Jesus, you guys have been dating for a year. Shouldn't he be used this by now?" Jonathan asked.
"I told him that he couldn't handle it," Steve said with a sigh.
"Oh, man, he lost consciousness! I'm freaking out!" Argyle exclaimed.
"Did you send him into subspace?" Nancy asked. "You barely touched him."
"In the middle of our goddamn party," Robin scoffed.
Star Child Part 15
So, I am procrastinating writing the ending. Because I love this story so much I don’t want it end. But I also have so so many other stories waiting to be written...
Steve gets more closure and huge settlement.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13  Part 14
*
Steve was back in LA and he loathed it. He knew he couldn’t stay on tour with Corroded Coffin, but he hated being away from Eddie. From all the Corroded Coffin members, if he was being honest.
But they were close to a deal with the label and then Steve could get actually writing. Real music. Music he always wanted to do. He wanted to cut his hair and get more tattoos. He wanted to wear what he wanted and not be pigeonholed into a certain look. He wanted to be able to go out in ripped jeans and a band shirt and not have TMZ talk about his ‘decline’.
But for the moment, all he could do was FaceTime his boyfriend and his band and chat with Robin. A Robin who was nourishing her own budding romance over FaceTime.
He was about to claw his hair out from cabin fever, so he called up Max and Lucas and went for a drive.
He went out to his favorite bakery for cinnamon rolls and good coffee. None of this fancy over priced stuff that everywhere else charged.
They sat out on the terrace and ate while Max and Lucas talked about planning their wedding.
“Please tell me you aren’t having it LA,” Steve begged. “You know this town is overpriced everything.”
Max blushed. “Actually we were thinking of going back to Indiana. Have the reception at Hopper’s Bar. Low key, you know?”
“That sounds amazing!” Steve said. “And have you thought about where you want to go for your honeymoon?”
Lucas opened his mouth to answer when someone called out Steve’s name.
Steve frowned and looked around. That’s when he spotted her. He turned to Max. “Any chance you can shoot me to get me out of this?”
Max grinned. “Not a chance. Eddie would kill me.”
Steve sighed and turned toward the person that had called out to him.
“Nancy Wheeler,” he said bitterly. “As I live and breath.”
She turned a bit and Steve wanted to curl up into a little ball shrivel up into nothing. Jonathan was with her.
Yup. Steve was in hell.
They walked over to the table. “Nancy, Jonathan these are my bodyguards, Max and Lucas. Guys, these are my exes. My ex-girlfriend, Nancy Wheeler, and my ex-bandmate Jonathan Byers.”
Both Jonathan and Nancy had the decency to wince.
“And despite what the news outlets said,” Steve continued. “She did in fact cheat on me with him. So you guys finally tie the knot or is she still holding out on you?”
Jonathan stepped in front Nancy and barked, “Hey!”
“Oh she is still holding out on you!” Steve said, voice dripping with disdain. “You guys have been together for what? Eight years now? And still no rings, no wedding bells, no martial bliss. I’m starting to think dodged one hell of a bullet.”
He stood up and threw money down on the table for the barista. Max and Lucas were on their feet in a heartbeat.
“We just wanted to talk,” Nancy said gently.
“About what?” Steve asked. “About how much what you did to me ruined my life? About how the two of you got off scot free and I had to face question after question about your relationship for months? You swan into my life again just as I get happy and I have to wonder how much of this is a coincidence and how much of this is a publicity stunt.”
“Hey, man,” Jonathan growled. “Like she said, we just wanted to see you and congratulate you on coming out.”
Nancy wrapped her arms around her waist and stared at the ground. Steve raised an eyebrow and even Jonathan looked down at her in shock.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Jonathan growled. “First you tell me that you broke up with Steve before we had sex. And kept to that story for years even after Dustin let it slip that that wasn’t the case. And now you’re telling me that this is a PR stunt? What the hell Nancy? What did he do to you that made you this pissed at him?”
Nancy looked up and stomped her foot angrily.
Steve cocked his head. “Oh. You didn’t tell him.” A slow smile crept on his face as he realized the absolute damage he could do in that moment.
“Don’t you dare speak her name!” Nancy snarled.
“I don’t have to, though, do I?” Steve said. He turned to Jonathan. “You remember the pool accident a year into our first tour as The Kings, right?”
“She blames you for Barb’s death?” Jonathan asked, rocking his head back in confusion. “That was an accident. She slipped by the pool’s edge and hit her head. All the outlets reported that even if you guys had been on hand, she still would have died from the head wound.”
Steve’s smile turned feral. “Oh it’s way more than that. You see she wasn’t supposed to be there that night. It was just supposed to be me and Nancy. But she had to put her nose where it didn’t belong. So while Nancy and I were having sex for the first time, she was snooping around my house and my pool, trying to prove...something. Hell if I know.”
“She thought you were gay,” Nancy said to her feet.
Steve tilted his head and licked his lower lip. “And there you have it. Nancy blames me because she still thinks Barbara Holland was right about me. And if I had ‘owned’ up to it, she would still be alive.” He leaned in close. “But she wasn’t. I’m not gay. I’m bisexual and I don’t need validation from you.”
He turned to walk away when Nancy shouted, “Why do you get to be happy and I don’t?”
Steve stopped and looked at her in utter shock. “Because I paid my penance in the spiral I found myself in afterwards. I got therapy. I moved on. You should too.”
“Steve,” Jonathan began. “I am sorry. For role I played in all this, wittingly or not. And I am happy for you. For coming out. For finding someone who is over the moon for you.”
Steve nodded. “Thanks, man.”
He walked away, feeling lighter than he had in years.
*
Steve had continued to do talk shows and radio shows talking about his coming out and the abuses he had suffered at the hands of his parents, his former manager, and the record label.
It was Monday again before Steve got the call from Erica.
“Steve!” she greeted warmly. “The label has offered a huge settlement to make it go away.”
Steve licked his lips. “How much are we talking about?”
“A three quarters of a billion dollars,” Erica replied, a feral grin evident in her voice.
Steve’s jaw dropped. “Holy shit, but why?”
Erica giggled. “They are already hemorrhaging artists and management. They’re hoping that if they pay you enough, it’ll stop the problem and they can go back to whatever the fuck it was they were doing before all this came out.”
“But they won’t be able to, will they?” he asked chewing nervously on his lower lip.
“No,” she said firmly. “I have also turned the blackmailing and abuse over to the LA county DAs office.”
“And they’ll actually do something?” Steve asked timidly. These guys at the record label weren’t small fry. They were men of importance and that never bode well for people like Steve.
“They will,” Erica said with another of her grins, “if Samuel Hayward knows what’s good for him. He might find himself sleeping on the sofa if he doesn’t.”
Steve huffed out a surprised laugh. “You are truly a force to be reckoned with, Erica Hayward.”
“And don’t you ever forget it, Steve Harrington.”
*
To say Steve was pleased that Corroded Coffin’s label Thacher Records signed him a alternative rock artist, would have been an understatement. Of the decade.
Between Erica and Robin, Steve deal was the best it could possibly be and he was excited to enter the studio for the first time since he started performing.
He pulled out all his song notebooks and all his composing notebooks and got to work. He founds some real gems amongst the dross and worked them together.
Soon he had five songs that he was really proud of and couldn’t wait to show the producer, Sam Owens.
He was just waiting to hear back on his thoughts.
Steve was so excited that he wasn’t watching where he was going and ran into someone coming out of the studio.
“Shit,” Steve murmured. “I’m sorry.”
“You’re Steve Harrington, right?” the very British voice asked.
Steve looked up to see Luke Spiller standing there. “Uh, yeah...that’s me.”
“I really loved the metal arrangement of our song,” Luke said. “And if you decide to ever get away from pop crap, have your agent give our agent a call.”
Steve huffed out a short laugh. “Yeah. That would be amazing. I’m actually working on a alt rock album right now. So if you’re in town for a bit, I’d love to work with you.”
“Killer!” Luke said. “Keep in touch, darling.”
He walked off with a swagger in his step that Steve only wished he had. He immediately pulled out his phone.
“Dustin,” Steve whispered into his phone. “Do you know how to get in touch with The Struts agent would you?”
“Uh...” Dustin replied. “I mean, I guess, theoretically. Why?”
Steve started jumping up and down, “Luke Spiller wants to do a collab with me!”
“Holy shit!” Dustin said. “When did this happen?”
“Like just now,” Steve squealed with delight.
“Yeah,” Dustin said. “I’ll get right on that. I’ll let you know the details when I get them.”
“You are the best, Henderson!” Steve said.
“Only because you deserve the best, Stevie,” Dustin said, a smile in his voice.
Steve’s excitement level had entered the stratosphere. He was going to collaborate with The Struts and Corroded Coffin.
Pinch him, he must be dreaming.
“Escrow’s almost over,” Eddie grinned as he hung up the phone, “I just have to go down there and resign the check, but after that we’re in the clear.”
He waltzed over to Steve, wrapping an arm around his waist to pull him against his chest, “In less than twenty four hours, we’re going to be homeowners.”
Steve grinned back, running his hands up and down Eddie’s chest with half-lidded eyes, “Sexier words have never been spoken.”
Eddie chuckled, cheeks a little pink at Steve’s low tone, “Real-estate turns you on?”
“Mmhm. Co home ownership with my illegal husband? Doesn’t get hotter than that.”
“Kinky,” Eddie smiled, leaning in to start nibbling on Steve’s ear, “You’re making me not want to leave.”
“Well tough,” Steve laughed, pushing Eddie towards the door, “But the sooner you get back the sooner we can celebrate.”
Eddie pressed a quick kiss to his lips before leaving, groaning when Steve pushed him back when he tried to get his tongue in his mouth,“If I get a speeding ticket I’m blaming you.”
“I’ll take full responsibility.”
Steve locked the door behind him, smiling to himself as he heard Eddie grumble his way down the stairs. He was barely two steps away from it when someone started knocking. Steve rolled his eyes, as he went back to answer it, a teasing comment already on his tongue, “Did you forget your keys again- oh.”
Steve paused, eyes wide at the sight of Mike Wheeler on his front door step, alone. He looked nervous, fidgeting while he kept his eyes down, “Can I uh, come in?”
Steve stepped aside, brow raised as Mike walked past him into the hall, “Eddie’s not actually here right now, but if you want to wait for him-”
“I know,” Mike interrupted, slumping down onto one of their couches, “I passed him on the stairs. I’m here to talk to you.”
That was…weird. Mike wasn’t exactly his biggest fan. It’s not like they hated each other or anything, but they weren’t close. They more…tolerated each other. Mainly because they both loved the same people, but they just never clicked. It also didn’t help that Steve had been the cause for many a rescheduled DnD session, for admittedly, strictly horny reasons.
Even now, with the California trio moving to Boston they hadn’t found a rhythm together. They only really interacted in group settings, with some kind of buffer between them.
Steve sat across from him feeling a little lost when he asked,  “Uh, what can I do for you?”
“You didn’t always know you were gay right?” Mike blurted, immediately getting into it, “Like…you used to like girls didn’t you?”
“Well…technically I’m not gay. I’m bi,” Steve corrected, frowning at Mike’s confused look. Though he couldn’t exactly blame him. Hell, he didn’t know what that word meant until he was almost twenty-one, “Like bi-sexual? When you like both? Like your literal sister-”
“Please don’t talk about Nancy right now,” Mike groaned, hiding his face in his hands, “This is embarrassing enough. Did you always know or not?”
“No, I didn’t always know I was into dudes,” Steve admitted with a shrug, “I never even considered them an option when I was younger. I liked girls, so I thought that was enough proof that I was straight. Until,” He gestured to the ring on his left hand, “Y’know.”
“But I don’t know!” Mike cried out, loud enough to make Steve jump a little, “I don’t know anything! Like what? You saw Eddie one day and you were magically queer?”
“Not exactly,” Steve laughed, slowly but surely catching on to where this conversation was going. Directness seemed like the best approach for this one,“When it came to Eddie, it was more…falling in love first and then realizing I wanted to fuck him.”
“Dude!”
Steve shrugged, “You asked.”
“But it can’t just be that easy!” Mike insisted, a few frustrated tears showing up in the corner of his eyes, “How can it be that easy?”
“Hey, hey calm down,” Steve said with a frown. He didn’t really know what to do here. He had methods for talking down the other kids, but he was at a loss when it came to Mike. This was an Eddie or Nancy thing and Steve wasn’t quite sure why he was coming to him.
He opted for tossing him a box of kleenex, politely looking away when he wiped at his eyes while he answered his question, “Why can’t it be that easy? I fell in love with a man, I figured out I was attracted to him. Had a minor crisis, and now we’re living happily ever after. It’s as simple as that.”
Mike rolled his eyes, which…fair enough. And at least he wasn’t crying. Besides, no one could really handle how sappy Steve got when he was talking about Eddie. But he was being honest.
“But what made you know for sure?” Mike pressed, “What was the moment?”
“It was a lot of moments man. They kind of just…added up to love eventually. But if you mean when did I realize it was real then…well do you want the PG version or the real version?”
Mike bit his lip, considering, “Um, PG please.”
“PG version, Robin talked me through my gay thoughts and helped me figure out what it all meant.”
Mike nodded, hesitating before asking, “What’s…the real version?”
“I saw his dick once and realized I wanted it in my mouth.”
“Oh my god,” Mike groaned, hiding his face in his hands, “I don’t know what I expected from you. I really don’t.”
“Well it might help if you’d just tell me why you’re asking,” Steve huffed. Though he had a pretty strong feeling that he already knew what it was, “Mike, what’s going on?”
“It’s…Will,” He finally admitted, staring at his hands, “Ever since we moved here I haven't been able to stop thinking about him. About us and it’s driving me fucking crazy!”
Now that he was talking, it was like he couldn’t stop, “And I’ve never felt like romantic things for him. Or at least I didn’t think I did. But I always thought that…if only he was born a girl y’know? Then he’d be perfect for me. A-and I kept thinking that right? And I kept trying to find someone just like him. And it kind of worked for a while, at least when we were all living together.”
It was official. Mike was having his baby gay moment, as Robin would have called it. Steve’s eyes softened as he watched him stumble through his words, very empathetic to what he was feeling,“What changed?”
Mike sighed, voice cracking when he answered, “When we were all together, we had this deal that we wouldn’t bring people home because like, who wants to hear their brother or sister doing shit right? And we were this weird little family and it worked. But now El lives with Max and Lucas, and it’s just us. And now…he brings guys home Steve.”
This little talk was rapidly steering into the territory of shit that Steve did not want to know. But he was going to be supportive of Mike’s little gay awakening, even if it was going to break his delusion of all of his children being pure virgins. He swallowed, forcing himself to keep the conversation going, “And that bothers you?”
“Does it bother me? It’s fucking infuriating! And it’s not even about them being loud. Most of the time I can’t even hear anything, but it’s the fact that they're even there at all that pisses me off.”
“And why is that?” Steve asked. The answer was obvious, he just didn’t know if Mike knew it or not. He kind of had the urge to shake him a bit, and Steve couldn’t help but wonder if this is how Robin felt when she was talking to him.
“Because…” Mike sighed, “I don’t know. I-I don’t think I’m gay.”
“You don’t have to be gay to like Will.”
“I don’t like Will,” Mike corrected, face red, “I love him. I’ve always loved him. But it’s never felt like this before. And I don’t know what to do with it. I don’t…I can’t try and start something that I don’t know I’ll finish.”
“You’re right,” Steve agreed. If Mike broke Will’s heart there would be at least five people in line to beat his ass, “But what makes you think it wouldn’t work?”
“Because I’m not gay-”
“Forget that for a second,” Steve interrupted, “The label doesn’t matter. How do you feel about Will?”
Mike was fidgeting in his seat, nervously thoughtful, “I…I don’t want him to see anyone else.”
“Why?”
Mike sighed, voice shaky when he admitted, “Because…because he belongs with me.”
“And what would that look like? Him belonging with you?”
“I don’t know.”
“Yes you do,” Steve pressed, “You wouldn’t be here if you’d never thought about it.”
Mike was staring at the floor, talking like the words were being psychically pulled out of him, “It would just be us. And I would be the person he would come to for the things he wanted. Everything he wanted. I’d be the one he talked to when he had a problem. I’d be the one he’d cuddle with after a long day. I’d be the one to take care of him.”
Steve nodded along, a small smile on his face when he asked, “Is kissing involved with this whole domestic bliss vision?”
“...yes?”
“Then I think it’s safe to say you’re not entirely straight.”
“But I’ve never wanted a guy before! It’s only ever been him and-”
“And that’s how I felt with Eddie,” Steve softly interrupted. He felt like he was trying not to spook a wild animal here, “Being gay or straight or bi or whatever doesn’t really matter when you love someone. And none of those labels changes who you are anyway. You’re still going to be you, even if you want to be with Will.”
Mike was gnawing on his lower lip, face scrunched as he processed the words. He ran a hand through his hair, finally conceding, at least a little, “Okay, let’s say I’m not entirely straight. That doesn’t mean that he’d even want me. He’s so…fun. And creative and smart and…pretty. And I’m just me.”
Steve shrugged. He didn’t want to lie to him, he didn’t technically have confirmation on Will’s feelings, and the whole thing could go south in theory. But he had some pretty good odds, “Look man, the two of you have been attached at the hip since you were in grade school. If Will thought you were just some average boring loser, he would have dropped you by now. And sure, maybe he doesn’t like you back. But if he does, don’t you think it’s worth the risk to ask?”
“But what if it ruins everything?”
“But what if it doesn’t?” Steve countered, “Look at me and Eddie. I mean shit dude, you helped plan our damn wedding. Wouldn’t you say that the risk was worth it?”
Mike paused, stopping to look around their cluttered living room. His eyes snapped to Steve’s favorite photo, the one framed and sitting on their mantle. It was of him and Eddie, clad in their wedding day gear. Steve was grinning at the camera, while Eddie had an arm wrapped around his waist, smacking a kiss to his cheek. It always managed to pull Steve out of a bad mood when he looked at it, a constant reminder of how great the life they built together was.
Mike stared at it for a while, for an uncomfortable amount of time in Steve’s opinion, but it seemed to be helping.
Eventually, Mike nodded to himself, standing up with a newfound sense of conviction, “You’re right. I’m gonna do it. Like…now. I’m going to do it now. Before I can talk myself out of it.”
Steve grinned, slapping his knee as he stood to follow him, “Good for you man. Go get him. You need a ride?”
He shook his head, already speed walking to the door, “No thanks, I need the time to figure out what the fuck I’ll even say.”
He lingered at the threshold of the door, stopping to glance back at Steve, “Thank you. For uh, talking to me. You were the only one who I thought would…y’know. Get it.”
“No problem dude, just let me know how it goes,” Steve reassured, feeling more than a bit proud of himself, “And hey um, if things go south you can come back here tonight okay?”
Mike nodded, still hesitating to actually leave. The next thing Steve knew he was being wrapped up in gangly limbs, in probably the most awkward but endearing hug in his life. Then he was stepping back as quickly as he’d come, nearly running down the stairs of the apartment building, leaving a proud and taken aback Steve in his wake.
Steve didn’t find out what happened until later that night, because calls at three a.m. were just a thing that his family refused to not participate in. It took a minute for him to wiggle out of Eddie’s deathgrip to actually get up to answer it, but when he did he was met with an excited Mike on the other end.
He didn’t even say hello, “It worked! We’re like boyfriends now. Just like that! The whole thing was so stupid, we were both pining for nothing. Can you believe that?”
Steve smiled, a little nostalgic at the memory of him and Eddie being just as stupid. He swallowed down a yawn, hoping his exhaustion wasn’t canceling out his sincere relief, “I’m happy for you dude. You guys are going to be cute together. Annoyingly cute.”
“Shut up, like you can talk,” Mike laughed on the other end. He cleared his throat, voice coming out a little more serious, “Can I uh, talk to you again about his kind of stuff? Because I’ll probably need more advice now than if he’d shot me down.”
Was this what being a proud father felt like?
“Yeah dude. Come over anytime,”Steve swallowed, feeling stupidly choked up all of a sudden. Jesus, is this what it felt like to be a proud dad?
“Thanks Steve. I’ll talk to you later.”
“See you around.”
Steve crawled back into bed feeling a bit lighter. He lifted up Eddie’s arms to slide back under it, cuddling into his chest, heart full. If the two of them were able to make it for nearly a decade, why couldn’t Mike and Will? Steve fell asleep with a smile on his face, thoughts full of how much he loved his little found family.
Murrayed
AO3
Part two || part three || part four || part five
Oh hey, I wrote something based off of this post I made a while ago!
Keep reading for some Murray and Steddie shenanigans!
Things had calmed down since the final showdown with Vecna, at least calmed down in an ‘upside down’ sense. Hawkins had slowly been stitched back together and the community had rallied together in a way no one had expected, but had been pleasantly surprised by. The actual party was still as chaotic as ever, especially with the Hopper-Byers clan merging together and moving back to Hawkins. But things were normal, or as normal as they could be.
Everyone had now been introduced to each other during the months that had followed saving the world and they were like one big, happy and dysfunctional family. Some were closer than others and some formed unexpected friendships. If anyone had told Robin half a year ago she’d consider Miss Nancy ‘the priss’ Wheeler a close friend, she would have laughed in their face. But here the girls were, having sleepovers and talking about unsolved crimes and their love for solving mysteries. Then of course there was Steve and Eddie, The King and The Freak respectively. Dustin had been over the moon about his two favourite older friends bonding, though a little annoyed at times that it meant they had less time for him.
Once the chaos after the ‘almost end of the world’ had settled, Murray had been invited to the Hopper-Byers housewarming BBQ and was very impressed with Hopper and Joyce’s new place. Due to everything that had happened in Hawkins the past few years, housing prices had plummeted and so the merged family had managed to get a really good deal on a beautiful home that had plenty of space for the family and guests. The backyard in particular was stunning, Joyce had planted bright rows of flowers and there was a decently sized pool and lounging area.
As Murray arrived, almost everyone was already here and Hopper had already got the BBQ going and had made a start on the food. He was wearing a ridiculous apron that read ‘kiss the cook, but don’t touch the buns!’ and looked as though he was showing El how to cook using the grill. Murray couldn’t help but smile at the pair, Hopper seemed to be glowing with pride as El used a spatula to turn over one of the burger patties.
“‘scuse me”
Murray stepped to the side to let a slightly disheveled Joyce pass, carrying a bowl of salad in her arms whilst grasping some spoons in one of her hands. He watched her place the salad bowl on a nearby table and put the spoons into what he assumed to be various dips. Murray could tell Joyce had been rushing around to set everything up and make it perfect, she didn’t even acknowledge him when she hurried back inside the house, presumably to grab more food.
Jonathan and Argyle were sitting on the edge of the pool, Jonathan's trousers rolled up and Argyle in a pair of shorts as their feet dangled into the water. Will and Dustin were engaged in conversation whilst a confused looking Steve stood by them, arms folded across his chest and brows furrowed as though he was trying hard to follow the conversation. Max was laid on a sun lounger whilst Lucas sat at the bottom of it with her feet in his lap, resting on his hands that were stretched out behind him. Robin and Nancy were standing near a table of drinks chatting, though Robin mainly seemed to be the one doing the talking. Nancy didn’t seem to mind, smiling and nodding her head as she listened and watched Robin throw her arms around excitedly. Murray almost didn’t spot the youngest of the bunch floating on their back in the pool, Erica. The one who Murray, though he would never admit this to anyone, was low key terrified of but also made him rather proud at the same time. He was sure she was going to end up running the country at some point.
He couldn’t spot the younger Wheeler sibling anywhere, which quite frankly he preferred. He could see how it was tearing Will up watching his best friend playing boyfriend (albeit it badly) to his sister.
As Murray made his way over to the table of food, offering Hopper a curt nod on his way, his attention was suddenly brought back to the house as a boisterous figure entered the backyard through the patio doors.
“Don’t worry folks, your jester has arrived!” and with a dramatic bow, Eddie Munson had arrived at the BBQ.
Even in the middle of the scolding summer, the young man was still wearing his battle vest over his t-shirt (though his t-shirt did at least have short sleeves) and ridiculously tight black jeans.
Murray rolled his eyes and went to put his attention back on the food but as he glanced over he noticed something. Dustin was gesturing and calling for Eddie to come over with a big grin on his face and little Byers was smiling towards him too, but their reactions weren’t what stood out to Murray. Oh no. It was Steve Harrington’s reaction that caught his eye. As the charismatic metal head made his way over, Steve couldn’t take his eyes off of him. He had relaxed his arms and let them fall to his sides and had the most genuine smile on his face. Murray recognised the sparkle in his eyes as Eddie ruffled both the younger boys' hair before moving in to hug Steve. The hug lasted on the side of a little bit too long and Steve continued to smile brightly and keep his focus on Eddie as his little proteges brought him into their conversation.
Murray let out a little sigh and shook his head as he smiled to himself, he reached into the pocket of his shorts and took out a small flask.
“Here we go again…” he muttered to himself before throwing his head back and taking a big glug from the liquid in the flask.
This was a request but the person wanted to stay anonymous so yaa. They asked for billy or eddie and I thought fuck it why not do both so this is the billy one and there will be an eddie one.
----------------------------------------------------------
'Am i not good enough for him' Billy hargrove x male!reader
Summary: your in a secret reactionship with billy and you see him flirting with Nancy's mom which makes you jealous and insecure.
Cw: reader being hella insecure, mention of hawkins being homophobic(no suprise there), angst,
Tumblr media
It was finally your day off. It felt so fucking good to just relax with Steve and robin and just not care about anything else. You guessed you just needed a break cause you have been stressing the whole week.
You where exited. It was hot and you where real fucking happy. Nothing could ruin your mood today. Or so you thought.
Walking out the changing room you noticed your (secret) boyfriend, Billy. He was talking to Nancy's mother. You didn't pay them any mind but something in your gut didn't feel right.
You ignored the feeling and simply walked past them to get to where robin and steve seemed to be arguing about something stupid again.
But as soon as you walked by Billy you paused. You however didn't wanna cause any un-needed attention so you quickly kept walking.
You got to your seat and looked straight to where billy and mrs wheeler where. No, no you must have misheard them.
Billy wasn't flirting with her, he couldn't be. She had a husband... but before you even started secretly dating billy he used to get any girl he wanted, even if she had a boyfriend.
Your heart sank. You and Billy acted like you where strangers to eachother in public. And you knew damn well why your relationship was a secret. If anyone ever found out if would be hell. Hawkins isn't the most accepting town after all.
You try to just ignore the thoughts flooding your head as you see billy get back up on his chair and not even spare you a glance. You saw Mrs wheeler go back to where she was sitting originally.
No. He was flirting with her. That's the only damn reason these middle aged women came out here. To get his attention and to get their backs blown out in the storage room.
You let your head hang low. Maybe this relationship you had with him ment nothing to him. Maybe this was all some cruel prank and currently somewhere his 'friends' where laughing at how pathetic you looked.
Maybe he was just waiting to out you to the whole school. Maybe billy Is just straight and doesn't actually love you. Maybe this is all a funny joke to him.
But what if you where a girl instead? Maybe then he would love you more. Maybe your relationship wouldn't be a secret and be would actually say he loved you. Or maybe he'd just play with you and throw you away like the rest of the girl's he's dated.
Maybe thats what happening to you. He's simply getting tired of you. Ya definitely, and any day now he's gonna come to your house and just break up with you. Cause why would he actually care. Key word he doesn't ducling care.
God dammit your only day of in the week, was ruined. Fucking ruined just because of some shitty guy who didn't love you. God great day, right.
You felt someone shake you slightly, breaking your train of thought. You looked over to see Steve with a massive grin on his face. "Hey you wanna go swim or burn out in the sun?" He said slightly laughing. You chuckled and simply nodded.
Could we have a oneshot about in OH universe Jealous!Chrissy X Paige X Eddie :D We've seen his reaction about Jason but we never see Chrissy's about Eddie's old hook up's or exes <3
Hi! I’d love to write something like that, but I probably won’t implement Paige or any Flight of Icarus to the Old Haunts universe until I’ve read the book. I want to get a feel of her character first before deciding. But, Eddie’s got enough flings pre 1986, so they definitely run into one or two of his exes and hookups over the years, so we’ll see her reaction to that.
For the most part, especially by 1995, they don’t really get too jealous, they never give one another a reason to be. It does happen, they’re human, but there’s this deep level of trust and loyalty to one another. Jason, of course, popping up at Laura’s funeral is a special case in more ways than one.
Kind of related (not really, sorry, but it’s something 😭) I have bits of a not fully conceptualized oneshot exploring their jealousy and how they’re both so different handling it. It’s during one of their biggest fights while living in Chicago, they’re both still young and Eddie’s career is picking up and Chrissy’s going through one of her low times. It roots up Eddie’s jealousy of watching Chrissy with Jason from afar for three years and Chrissy’s the more she learns about the girls he’s been with (some she even remembers/noticed him with in high school 🤭)
Eddie’s more outwardly jealous between the two, running hot and loud (as we’ve seen). He stews internally until he eventually erupts. Whereas, Chrissy gets quiet and depressed, she’ll go into her own head and clam up tight. Which honestly drives Eddie crazy, especially the silent treatment. He’d rather she stab him in the foot or something than not talk to him. With all her insecurities and self deprecation, it’s way too easy for her to think that he won’t want her anymore and leave her for someone more beautiful and exciting. It’s been locked in her whole life by her mother and it’s a hard thing to work past for her.
Here’s a bit of it:
1989
Chicago, Illinois
He’s slumped on the couch watching the moving shadows from the traffic lights outside faze over the ceiling, one leg hanging over the edge, swinging back and forth in slow simmering agitation.
It’s dumb. He’s not really waiting up for her, it’s like only four minutes after eight when he hears her unlock the front door. She said she’d be out till around eight thirty so she’s actually early. He hasn’t even put Livvy to bed yet. She’s on her tummy, chewing on her rubber panda in her playpen. She seems content, but she knows something is amiss, she keeps glancing up at him with her big chocolate eyes in a ‘You alright over there?´ sort of way. She’s already asked like six times for the last three hours her mother’s been away.
“Otay Daddy?”
“Yeah, I’m okay, bug.”
“You otay?”
“I’m okay.”
“Otay, Daddy?”
“I’m fine, baby.”
“Daddy sad?”
“No, I’m not sad, Livvy.”
“Otay.”
“Thanks for checking.”
“…Daddy otay?”
“Yes! Yes! Daddy is okay, Olivia!”
“Otay.”
He glances at Chrissy when she steps inside, hoping maybe her spirits are a little lifted with some time away to clear her head. Nancy’s in town, so Robin and Vickie picked her up so they all could go out for dinner and drinks. She keeps her back to him while she hangs her keys.
“Hi.” he greets.
“Hi.” she answers tonelessly, not meeting his gaze when she turns around.
Eddie wilts, if anything, she looks even more upset. God, did she tell them? Did they spend the whole night dissecting the situation? Why is Nancy always around when he fucks up?
“So uh how was it?”
“Fine.” she replies faintly.
God. Just fucking kill him now. He hates this.
She’s not even dressed all that wild, maybe a little more sexy than usual, with the strapless floral blue dress that shows off her legs with an oversize jean jacket and her heels. Jesus God! It doesn’t matter, Chrissy could be wearing an old potato bag and she’d still get attention. He can only imagine how many stupid fucking frat boys hit on her tonight and after the incident she probably let a few of them too.
Okay fine… she wouldn’t do that, no matter how angry she is with him… but they still would try and his red hot jealousy is still flaring at just the idea of it. It only makes it worse that she’s not vying for a reaction. Not trying to get back at him.
“How’s the girls?” he asks.
“Good.” She supplies, walking past him toward their daughter. Livvy climbs up quickly to her feet using the railing of her playpen, reaching for her to pick her up.
“Hi Mama! Mama!” she exclaims in delight, turning to Eddie. “Mama home!”
“I see her, bug.” His smile is a little tight as he tries to catch her eyes, tries to reach her.
“Hi, sweetie,” Chrissy sings gently with a little smile, lifting their toddler up in her arms and walking toward the bathroom, leaving him alone to pout after her in the small living space. “Were you a good girl?”
“Yea!”
“Good.”
“Missed you, Mama,” Livvy continues to babble, leaning her head against her shoulder. “Missed you.”
“Missed you too, sweetheart.” Chrissy replies, letting her sit on the counter of the sink to watch her take off her makeup.
Eddie rises to his feet with a long sigh and follows, scratching the back of his neck as he comes to stand in the entrance, leaning against the frame.
“Pwetty,” Livvy reaches up to touch her face in marvel, her dark eyes fixated on her. “Pwetty, pwetty, pwetty,” her little fingers pet her golden waves. Chrissy’s smile is melancholy as she kisses her forehead.
“Thank you, baby.”
She is pretty, the prettiest girl he’s ever seen, he wants to tell her that. She still hasn’t looked at him, keeping her gaze on her reflection as she cleans off her eye shadow and mascara.
“Mama sad.” Livvy says, studying her. “Sad Mama?”
“I’m okay, Livvy,” she tells her, giving her a bigger smile, but it still doesn’t reach her eyes.
“Mama sad.” His little girl snaps her head at him sharply, eyes big and worried. What did you do? Fix it!
“I’m trying, bug,” he breathes out. “Mama’s not talking to me.”
Chrissy looks skyward in mild irritation, lashes fluttering closed. She leans down to rinse her face.
“Talk Mama?” Livvy turns back to Chrissy, tugging at her dress. “Talk?”
“…Not tonight, baby,” she sighs, picking her back up. “Too tired.”
“Tired?” she repeats in contemplation. “Bed time?”
Chrissy hums a little yeah as she turns, waiting expectantly for Eddie to move out of her way.
He doesn’t.
“Tired, Daddy.” Olivia informs him from where she sits on her hip. “Mama tired, bedtime”
He gives his little intercessor a sad half smile. “Thanks anyway, baby girl.” She tried her best for him. “Chrissy…”
“I’m going to put her down for the night.” she informs him, eyes on his shoulder.
“…Okay.” He touches the bend of her arm, looking for her again, but she’s always been much too good at hiding from him when she wants to. “I mean, I can, if you want to change or—”
“No, I want to.” she whispers, pushing gently past him.
Give her space.
She said she wanted space.
So like one of my ideas I posted earlier has been getting hyped up, and low key thinking about writing that idea but I’m currently working on another one that I sort of just want people to get excited about with me 🥺
Five Times The Protector became the sheep + the moment Steve became more then just one of Eddie’s little sheep
So I’ve been seeing a lot of content where Eddie is the one to adopt Steve into his group. Don’t get me wrong, I love that idea a lot! (I’ve inhaled a lot of one shots with that concept) but in my head I wanted it to be reversed.
What if Steve Harrington “adopts” Eddie into his life. Content with just doing the most mundane things and wearing the softest sweaters Steve doesn’t mind letting Eddie into his life like this. Just sassy Steve bitching at Eddie’s ex friends (who went to band practice when their friend was literally on the run, and didn’t seem to worried) Steve teaching Eddie how to fold clothing, how to bake or cook, how to crotchet (steve makes a small bat for Eddie where the head pops off in reference to Ozzy, Eddie loves it) Also Steve reads a lot of Eddie’s writing, because lets be honest Steve isn’t stupid. He probably does enjoy reading comic books with Dustin and most likely used to read Nancy’s articles even though he didn’t care for them. Also just Steve being steve? Goofing around with Eddie, making him laugh, helping him bandage his scars up (which I’m writing to not be as bad as they were in the show) there is a lot of scenarios that I’m thinking of for this but then Steve Harrington is taken aback when Eddie returns everything back to him with the same amount of care or more.
Eddie who forces Steve to come over for dinner at the trailer, who bandages him up, who forces Steve to share his interests (Eddie admits numerous times he’s only looking at the football players asses) Eddie hugging Steve unprompted, smoking together in his trailer, because this isn’t just a one sided thing happening. It’s a mutual thing that has been happening for weeks now and no one is seeing it. Eddie has been working on making more friends, better friends but that’s a tad difficult which means all of the energy he has to give is all given to Steve.
(Like I’m almost done with the first part and ngl, I’m having so much fun writing it that I can’t wait to share it with everyone 🥺 the title is a work in process though)
Yandere fruity four with an angelface who was an experiment like El & has powers.
They can’t stand doctors or being trapped, if they see a needle they’ll break it instantly. When you’re sick or injured the four have to play nurse, and while it stresses some of them out (Nancy and Steve) they’re all either high key or low key happy for the excuse to dote on Angel and they’re all overjoyed when they realise what a show of trust it is.
And they have to use all their charm and persuasion and manipulation to convince them to stay inside, both out of possessiveness and their safety, and when they do go out they stick to angel like glue.
Angelface is incredibly resistant to capture or confinement, they may even be claustrophobic in particularly clinical or windowless rooms, and the thing with this Angel is that they can’t realistically keep them contained with force, especially if they had escaped the lab on their own. They can’t fight them or hold them down, they could potentially drug them but as soon as they sober up their trust is lost and they’re gonna bounce. I suppose they could keep them doped up, but the amount of intoxication needed to stop them from using their powers would essentially rob them of everything they love about Angelface, they wouldn’t be able to hold a conversation, or dance with them, or even understand the plot of a movie they stuck in front of them cuz they’d be so out of it.
Of course, this causes a fair bit of insecurity for our yan!fruits, cuz even a lil bit of sus behaviour sets off red lights in Angel’s head, at the beginning some of Nancy & Steve’s more controlling behaviour set them off and they almost ran for it, it took no small amount of begging and tears from Eddie & Robin (+ maybe Chrissy) for them to stay. So instead they turn to manipulation and bribery. Eddie/Robin/Chrissy have already deployed tears and they worked, Nancy & Steve maybe exaggerate any lab-related activities to compel them to stay inside, they all bribe them with food they never had, Rob/Steve bring back movie after movie from work insisting that they need to find Angels favourite, Eddie has to be very careful when introducing them to recreational drugs as they have that clinical trauma but teaches them how to enjoy themselves and relax, and I think they’d all use sexual bribes or use sex as a way to wear them out so they’re too tired or sore to want to go outside.
Not that Angel needs much persuading, they find crowds overwhelming and wants to avoid unwanted attention as much as possible, tho whenever they do go out they’re always with someone and more than likely wearing everybody else’s clothes which is a huge bonus.
They fucking love playing with their hair as it starts to grow out, they loved petting their hair when it was shaved but when it gets longer they get to brush it and help them style it to look nice, all of them making competitive jokes about whose hair they should copy or who styles it best.
Angelface starts out pretty naive and innocent (as innocent as someone w so much trauma can be), the world is unfamiliar and they’re still figuring out their individuality but their own inner possessive/protective/clingy yandere slowly emerges. The guys at work being patronising and demeaning to Nancy? His car ends up in a ditch on the way to the next story they were gonna steal from under her. Billy using dirty tactics against Steve during basketball? Get ready to eat it at the next game asshole, enjoy the twisted ankle. Someone calls Robin a d*ke at work? Sounds like someone who doesn’t need kneecaps, don’t come back. Eddie goes to do a deal and they decide to beat him up instead of paying him? An unseen force crushes both their hands and Angel dares them to tell anybody. TF4 don’t even fully realise it at first but over time Angel gets more blatant. Of course they want them to be careful and lightly scold Angel for it but they’re also hella flattered.
When it came to affection in the beginning they were pretty guarded, simultaneously touch starved and touch averse, the most they would do was lean into them when they sat/stood beside them, they mostly had to initiate. Now though? They can hardly get away from for a minute, if one of them needs to detach themselves from them they have to hand them over to someone else to tangle with. Nancy can now do paperwork with Angel cuddled up to her or laying in her lap, Eddie has figured out how to play guitar with Angel fully sitting on him, Robin and Steve will serve customers with a straight face with Angel clinging to their backs. They love it.
(Bit creepier but when Angel get nosebleeds from using their powers they low key fight over who cleans it up and they keep whatever bloodstained cloth they used afterwards, like a keepsake.)
- 🎃 bet you thought you saw the last of me
WROW THIS IS.......MNGH......!!!
ok but lowkey i wanna be their little unnerving-human-experiment-pet 🥺 the thought of skirting around them because you don't know how to socialize or how to differentiate good touch from bad touch, and they seem nice but you know you can't trust anybody, no matter how friendly they seem. like you said, breaking needles or even those soft syringes filled with cough syrup when they try to give you medicine, refusing to be taken to the hospital even when you're on the brink of passing out because of your nosebleeds, and just in general choosing to take care of yourself rather than trust anyone else cause you just can't bring yourself to be that vulnerable.
but when things start getting comfortable and you explore a little more, it gets so much easier. you wander over to the tv and start flipping through channels one day, you tentatively try some of the new foods you've never experienced, like boxed mac and cheese and fresh fruit. and when the four keep treating you nicely and giving you things you would have considered rewards every single day, you can't help falling in to their devotion. you learn how to love from them, you find out that it means protecting the people you care about no matter what. which is what causes you to turn that thinly-veiled anger and aggression towards others, bad people, who deserve it. in your opinion, bad people treating your loved ones badly is an unspoken agreement, one that they don't even really know they're agreeing to--because if they hurt your loves, then they forfeit whatever you deign to destroy. their property, their livelihood, their bones, whatever punishment fits the crime. and how are they gonna get away? who's gonna believe them? you'd love to see them try after they run with their tails between their legs--you won't be too worried though, because you'll be too busy cozying up to your partners with a pout after they gently scold you for committing a crime. but you don't get punished like you would at the lab, and they swear they'll still love you forever no matter what you do.....so maybe it's not too bad to get away with whatever revenge you feel is necessary.
potential request if you please 😘😘 where Eddie Munson is your friend and when your car breaks down he jumps at the chance to offer you rides because he lowkey has feelings for you and perhaps,,,, those feelings get confessed ? 👀 And he gives you a little kith (or not, I trust your artistic judgement)
hi meg i love u meg
eddie is the kind of guy who will go out at any time of night to come collect you if you tell him about your car. obviously this is the 1980s so you can't even casually hit him up, you gotta trek down the weird hawkins back roads to a diner to use their phone and he drives there to pick you up
it's even worse that it's late at night and raining and by the time eddie gets to you, you're drenched to the bone and there is mud up your jeans
for a second he's mad at you for walking in the dark by yourself but when he realises you were actually being really sensible he calms down a bit
eddie isn't an over-protective guy by nature. it's just that he's high key completely in love with you and the idea of you walking in the dark alone at night is not something that sits well with you
he just makes a joke about it though bc when is he ever all that serious?? he's just like it's almost like you're trying to get caught up with the weird demons
eddie takes you back to the trailer bc it's closer to the diner than your house; plus it's late as hell and raining cats & dogs and you're already tired
he gives you some clean clothes - that smell low-key of tobacco, and his everyday scent and just quintessentially eddie - and you pass out beside him on the sofa under a blanket, head lulled against his shoulder
it's bad news for your car tho. it's gonna be expensive to fix and you won't have the money for a while
naturally, eddie is super happy to drive you anywhere and everywhere - to and from work, to and from the various calls you get from steve where he's all help dustin disappeared and i think max is possessed and mike is asking for me girl advice and nancy is right there and i can't say "keep whoever you're in love with AWAY FROM JONATHAN BYERS" whilst she's here
at first, it's just pure fun. you'll throw some tapes on and sing along loudly to whatever eddie is playing and honestly?? you just look forward to those short journeys you're spending together
then one day a guy from work asks you out to the movies and you say yes - you're not gonna ask eddie for a lift bc a) you're not about to tell the guy you probably like that you're going on a date and b) it's a re-run of return of the jedi and you can't be arsed to hear his 20 minute rant on whether or not you can domesticate ewoks
but the date goes terribly and you leave halfway through because this guy is just fucking weird and clearly only wants for one thing so you use the theatre's phone to call eddie and he's there in a flash
and when he sees you stood outside in the rain looking defeated as fuck it breaks his heart
you explain what went wrong: the guy was handsy and weird and creepy and this is your fourth bad date in two months and when you say that you might be the problem, eddie near enough stops the car right there and then
"you're not the problem. they're all the problem. you're amazing."
that's when the atmosphere kind of shifts and eddie decides that it's now or never because it's dark and raining and goddamit you're wearing his jacket
"i like you. i've always liked you. i think i like you now more than ever and i really want to kiss you"
eddie rambles. eddie always fucking rambles but hell, this is the one time you're not gonna stop him
he almost gets a little shy when you say "so why haven't you kissed me yet then?"
eddie is gentle. way gentler than you thought, and it takes him a minute to find his footing because he is literally shaking
but when he does work it out, with one hand on the back of your neck and the other on your thigh, thumb rubbing circles into your leg as he softly kisses you??
hell you would have cut your brake cables years ago if your car breaking down was all it took
Omegas were always told it was a major disrespect to openly ask for sex so when (name) was ready for that step in his relationship with Eddie, he did what he was taught.
Use pharamones and body language.
Like he was taught in Omega etiquette classes.
Except it didn't work.
It was like Eddie was completely unaware he was even doing anything and even asking if he wanted pizza.
At first he thought Eddie just didn't notice but his Omega side began creeping in with thoughts, was Eddie rejecting him?
Was there something wrong with him?
Oh god did he not find him attractive enough to sleep with?!
He tried a total of four times before giving up, obviously Eddie wasn't interested so stopped trying.
It was obvious something was bothering (name), the Omega hiding in his nest more and more. Nancy, Steve and robin stood outside the closet where his nest was as they listened to (name)s troubles "Does he not think I'm attractive enough?"
Now it was w e l l known that (name) was one of the prettiest people in Hawkins-- hell maybe even the state but it was also known among the group that (name) struggled with confidence issues because of the Omega classes, Nancy told them how they basically strip omegas if their self worth to make them more "desirable" to alphas.
Aka make them hate themselves so they are less picky.
Though (name) had slowly unlearned the shit he was forced to learn, things like this were still a struggle.
"Oh hunny... I think he just genuinely doesn't know Omega signals" Robin said as she slipped (name) a gummy worm through the crack of the closet "Eddie was always high during classes" though alphas didn't have the same type of classes omegas had, they were still taught basic sex Ed.
"Eddie practically eye fucks you" Steve said bluntly as he popped a gummy worm in his mouth, moving away when Nancy smacked him "what Steve means to say is that Eddie cares a lot about you and maybe try talking to him about this!"
(Name) thought about it before cracking the door open "you think?"
"We know so Hun"
(Name) was fidgeting as be stepped up to his boyfriends trailer and knocked, hearing soft swearing as Eddie opened the door and (name) felt his heart freeze as he saw Chrissy behind him on his couch with textbooks and obviously working on homework.
Logically he knew that Chrissy had a mate and wasn't out to steal his boyfriend but after the emotional rollercoaster be had just went through.
His pretty heart broke.
"I interrupted, I will go now" his voice robotic as he turned and walked away, the sight of another Omega in his boyfriends home just... It was to much for his already emotionally fragile brain to handle.
"(Name)? What's going on baby?" Eddie asked confused as he walked towards (name) who just---- he's had a very bad few days.
So he just shut down a bit, closed his eyes.
Then he dropped.
Eddie barely had time to catch him and Chrissy ran out to check the commotion and ran over "what happened?!"
"I don't know?! Fuck, keep the door open while I bring him inside!"
Eddie called Dustin, informing him his brother had a drop and the young tween happened to be with Steve who got Robin and Nancy and the four practically busted into the trailer "where is he?!" Dustin said panicked as Eddie led them to his room "what's Chrissy doing here?" Nancy asked curiously, the red head looking awkward "I was asked to help Eddie with homework and then (name) came and then he dropped!" She said low-key freaking out, not sure what was going on and the others glanced among each other before it clicked in Steve's head "oh... Oh no"
"What?" Eddie said serous, no one used to seeing this side of him but they all knew he didn't fuck around when it came to those he loved "(name) was coming to ask why you were rejecting his advances to you know get to third base, he thought you didn't want him and stuff and seeing another Omega..." Steve didn't need to finish as the room clicked "oh gosh I'm so sorry!" Chrissy said feeling guilty as hell and Steve patted her back "don't worry, it wasn't your fault" he said gently "I'm gonna go though, Eddie we can study at the library next time and when we do" she looked serious as she continued "tell your Omega you're with another Omega"
Eddie felt like a grade A dumb ass as he thought it over, the signs were so obvious!
The group kept an eye on him, (name)s breathing evening out as be snuggled into Eddie's bedding as Dustin put his sweater beside the omegas head to give him a familial scent.
It took six hours for (name) to amerge from his drop, head pounding and incredibly disoriented as he looked around and let out a whine when he didn't see anyone because of course be woke up when Eddie needed to pee.
Dustin noticed his brother sitting up and clinging to the blanket "he's up!" Dustin said as he ran towards his brother, letting him pull Dustin close and scent the tween and kiss the top of his head.
"Hey baby..." Eddie said as he stepped in and (name) fidgeted a bit "they told me what happened, baby I'm sorry I wasn't rejecting you..."
"Then why?"
"I will admit I'm not the best at noticing signs like that but I would never reject you"
(Name) slowly let his baby brother go and Dustin left not wanting to hear his brother talking about wanting to have...that.
"Really?"
"Of course baby, you know how many nights I think of you in so many places and God in so many positions!"
(Name) blushed and let out a small laugh "can you forgive me baby boy?"
"Yeah alpha... I forgive you"
The two smiled as (name) kissed him gently "but please learn..."
"I will learn everything baby, study it like a champaign!"
"So y'all good now?" Lukas yelled out from the hall as the couple walked out, (name) wrapped in Eddie's blanket "yeah, sorry...."
"(Name) no apologies!" Dustin said with a serious expression and (name) snorted when Mike flicked his ear on (name)s behalf.
Eventually the party left Eddie and (name) alone and the two snuggled on the couch when Eddie smelt a sweet aroma "is this a signal baby?"
The gentle hand touching was his answer.
The Places We Hide Part 3
Part 1 Part 2
Yup, yup. no more posting right before bed. Oops! This was part 3 and I accidentally skipped part 2. Sorry. :(
*
Eddie and Steve had set up a system. If Steve got overwhelmed and needed to take break from the party, he would tap Eddie on the forearm, then Eddie would get up about twenty minutes later and come find him. Eddie would bring him back around and they’d have a smoke and come back, so they could just past it off as needing a cigarette.
If Steve was home alone or elsewhere and got overwhelmed, he’d call Eddie and say “Come find me,” with a location. And off Eddie would go, he’d grab his keys and be off like a shot.
It wasn’t perfect. There were times when Eddie would be out with his band or doing Hellfire Club and he couldn’t just up and leave, so he call a break and talk to Steve until he felt better. Those times were harder to hide from the party and their friends, but they managed.
The worst times were at night.
The phone rang startling Eddie awake.
“Fuck!” he swore diving for it, hoping to hell it didn’t wake Wayne, too.
“Yeah?” he murmured.
“Eddie...” the pain voice said on the other end.
Eddie closed his eyes. “Hey, sweetheart.”
“Come find me?”
It was always a question. Like after all this time, Eddie was just going to give up and leave him hanging.
“On my way, darlin’,” Eddie promised. “Where to?”
“Quarry,” was the only response before the line went dead.
Eddie squeezed his eyes tightly before he opened them again. He quickly got dressed and grabbed his wallet and his keys. His hand reached the front door knob when Wayne cleared his throat.
“Where ya going?”
Eddie turned around slowly and grimaced. “I’m sorry the call woke you.”
Wayne raised an eyebrow. “Thank you. But you didn’t answer the question.”
Eddie’s shoulders slumped. “It’s Steve.”
The other eyebrow rose to meet the first. “What’s Steve?”
Eddie shuffled closer to sofa. “He blanks out sometimes, needs help getting out of it. He can say things when he’s under, but can’t really understand why he’s saying it. So we’ve developed a system so I can help.”
“Is that what’s happening when he calls and you’re not home?” Wayne asked gently.
Eddie nodded. “He doesn’t want everyone else to know. The adults like Joyce Byers, Chief Hopper, Mrs Henderson...they’ll baby him. And he hates that.”
“And he can’t go to the rest of his friends, why?” Wayne asked.
Eddie started shifting back and forth. “Can we talk about this later, he’s waiting for me?”
Wayne shook his head. “I’m not letting you go until I understand.”
Eddie let out a low whine. “Fine, it’s because they’re all younger than he is. Nancy, Robin, Jonathan, Argyle are all a year younger. And the rest have barely entered high school.”
Wayne rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I see. You can go.”
Eddie eyed him suspiciously, before he dashed out the door.
He made it to the quarry just as it began to rain. He pulled up along side of Steve’s beamer and then hopped from his van to the passenger side of the car. He slammed the door.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he said soothingly. “Can you come round for me?”
Steve let out a sigh. Eddie took his hand and began to rub it with his thumb in short circles.
“Come on, darlin’,” he coaxed.
Steve’s whole body shuddered and then relaxed. “I shouldn’t have drove, I’m sorry.”
Eddie shook his head. “It’s early enough that most people wouldn’t be out. You wouldn’t have hurt anybody. And you are the most careful driver I know.”
Steve closed his eyes. “Thanks.”
“What happened this time?”
Steve opened his eyes. “The light in the hall was going out when I got up to get a drink.”
Eddie pursed his lips. “The Upside Down is gone, baby, you know that.”
Steve nodded. “My rational brain knows it, but lizard brain was telling me I was being attacked.”
Eddie covered Steve’s hand with his other hand, twisting in the seat to do so. “I know, sweetheart. I’m glad you recognized that you needed me.”
Steve looked down at their clasped hands and gave Eddie’s hand a squeeze. “Me, too.”
Eddie smiled. “They’ve been coming less frequently, too.”
Steve reared his head back. “Are you sure?”
Eddie nodded. “Yeah man. It used to be three, four times a month. But your last one was a two weeks ago.”
Steve cocked his head. “I guess it’s because you bring me out of them instead of living inside my head until it passes.”
“Happy to help, Stevie,” he murmured.
Steve dislodged his hand and began making his way to the back seat.
“Where are you going?” Eddie asked with a huff of laughter.
“If I’m going to be all mopey and upset,” Steve explained, throwing himself against the back seat, “I’m going to at least be comfortable doing it.” He pulled out a large blanket from underneath the driver’s seat. “Care to join me?”
Eddie looked at the large, pink monstrosity and then shrugged. “Sure, why not?”
He climbed over the center console and hopped into the back seat. He waited until Steve had rearranged the blanket before he held out his arm. “Come on, darlin’.”
Steve wasted no time in settling into Eddie’s side. He laid his head back on his shoulder and sighed.
“Do you think the others have this problem to?” Steve asked softly. “The blanking out?”
Eddie knew what the real question was. ‘Why is this happening to me?’
“You would have noticed, Stevie,” he said kindly. “I think it’s all the hits to the head.”
Steve let out a shuddering breath. “Yeah. I know I should talk to someone about it, but I worry about being put on medication.”
“Why, if it helps?” Eddie asked.
He squeezed his eyes shut. “I was given a narcotic when Billy bashed my head in, for the pain, you know. My dad came home and thought I was using. Despite the fact that the bottle was mostly full and the name was mine.”
“And he flipped out on you?” Eddie guessed.
Steve nodded.
They lapsed into a quiet, comfortable silence.
Eddie had almost thought that Steve had fallen asleep when he spoke.
“Do you know why I come out here?” he whispered.
Eddie looked down at him in surprise. “Why’s that, sweetheart?”
“This is where it all started,” Steve said looking out at the pouring rain. “When hell decided to make it’s home in Hawkins.”
Ah.
“Will and El are safe now,” Eddie murmured. “The only things that they have to worry about now is who gets to cut Mike in half. I personally volunteer.”
Steve chuckled. “You’re his favorite, you know?”
Eddie laughed. “Well, I don’t think he’s anyone’s favorite but those two, so...”
“I know he’s going through shit,” Steve murmured. “But between him and Dustin there is just too much sass.”
“And then you add Max and your negatives are in the negative,” Eddie agreed.
“I love them though,” Steve said as he curled into Eddie’s side.
Eddie kissed the top of Steve’s head. “Sleep now, sweetheart. I’ll be here when you wake.”
A few minutes later, Eddie looked down to see that Steve’s breathing had evened out, his eyes were closed and his body relaxed.
“There you are, darlin’, I found you.”
