Just posted my first one shot fanfic, for Nace appreciation week 2022 Week 6 - Taylor Swift lyrics. It’s inspired by “Forever Winter”, and specifically Kennedy saying on Twitter it was an ode to Ace’s low moments in S3, and her own headcanon about Nancy’s reaction to what he was going through. I’ve been haunted by it ever since. I’ll be back next week with Chapter 4 of The Space Between (Season 4 speculation fic)!

This fic is a bit angstier than I usually write - I really wanted to capture the pain Ace is going through in S3 - and have Nancy recognize it and (hopefully) comfort him. It’s a missing scene that takes place in the early morning after the Crew discovers Hannah opened the Copperhead’s cage (3x06), and before the Dads fall under the spell of the youth elixir (3x07). Here is a taste:

Nancy’s phone buzzed, waking her from a sound sleep. She was surprised to see a text from Ace so early in the morning. It was still pitch dark outside.

Ace: im no longer undecided

She thought back to the night before. Ace wasn’t quite his normal chill self when he arrived at the Historical Society. She could tell from the look on his face that something was up. When she asked him if he was OK his answer was “undecided.” But he never elaborated, and soon after they became distracted as Bess learned from the security footage that Hannah had opened the Copperhead’s cage.

Nancy: are you ok?

She waited for a response.

Ace: I don’t think so

This episode has to be one of the funniest of the show so far (imo)! The way Nancy and Ace co-parented her dads had me in stitches laughing. With Nancy as the high-stress parent and Ace as more of the “calm, cool, collected” type, they are such a perfect balance ❤️

Hope you enjoyed Naceweek for all those who celebrated! I loved seeing all the amazing edits and reading the fics. I took the week to focus on an angsty one shot based on Taylor Swift’s “Forever Winter” set between 3x06 and 3x07. Check it out if you felt a scene where Ace poured out his troubles to Nancy was missing in S3.

I’m excited to be back with the next chapter of The Space Between. Things really heat up between more than one set of characters (but of course most of all between Nancy and Ace), and we see the whole crew in action sleuthing together. Spoiler alert: The curse is tested with interesting results.

Here’s a taste of Chapter 4:

As Nancy stood sipping her coffee, she heard the ancient doorbell ring. She wasn’t expecting anyone - could it be her mystery client at last revealing themselves?

Nancy was surprised to see Ace at the door when she opened it - it was as if she’d conjured him up from her thoughts alone. He had on a blue sweatshirt and jeans and a dark blue shearling jacket. It looked like the same outfit he wore when Daniel West threatened his life - she wondered if he chose it consciously. It was also what he wore in her dreamscape when she battled the wraith. She couldn’t seem to stop conjuring up her romantic dreams about him.

“What are you doing here? Don’t you have work?” Way to be friendly, Drew.

“I have off today. I wanted to see how you were doing after last night.” Ace looked at her appraisingly, probably noting the dark circles under her eyes, but politely refraining from mentioning them. He looked a little tired but was as gorgeous as always - it really wasn’t fair. “I also had an idea about how we could learn more about the liminal space that I wanted to run by you. I hope it’s OK.”

Nancy Drew 3x07 "The Gambit of the Tangled Souls"

This episode is comedic gold..mixed in with a lot of heartbreak for Bess and resolution of a multi-season plotline for George. Very little progression on season long plot.

Nancy and Bess are exploring the tunnel. Ace bursts in to tell them that they have a limited window to get the soul splitter from Bobbsey’s locker because the cops are on their way to search it too. Nancy calls her handy Dad lawyer to try and delay the search.

“You broke up with Amanda?”

“She broke up with me”

“I’m sorry I didn’t know”- I think she wants to be sorry but...

This ep is sooo good. The Carson and Ryan content we get from the Juvenescence Elixir. Add in Ace. And in #Nace as parents.

Bess is putting off her love life and newly found relationship with Addy because they really only have this small window to try the soul splitter on George and they have only begun to understand how it works.

Carson and Ryan are not helping speed things along

Ace: Holy balls I have so many questions. Is that the 302 or the 390?

Nancy; “I told you to come straight home”

TELL ME THEY ARE NOT PARENTS IN THIS SCENE.

Ryan: “Wait, what is your last name?”- Never change show.

Ace: “Don’t worry I speak the language. Hey, dude where’s my Carson?” 🤦‍♀️

mMARRIED PARENTS

Waiting for the soul-splitter, George passes out. Apparently Bess gave her some potion in preparation that would separate her soul from her body but if they don’t find the soul splitter soon…well…it’s bad.

Nancy arrives in time with the soul splitter. But…it doesn’t work as planned. This soul splitter is a knock off, after all, and Bess hasn’t had all the time in the world to research this. They DO make the connection that Beckett Dow’s initials on this match the initials of the lock on the killer’s cage.

Ace tying Carson’s tie (HELP ME why does this make me weak)

Nancy conveniently finds instructions for the soul splitter in the cell. Unfortunately, she learns that this model of soul splitter isn’t to separate two souls but to split one soul, in this case that means they will need to destroy Odette’s soul to get George’s soul back in the body (Just take my word for it).

Nancy tells Bess that they need to help Odette move on. Her soul deserves rest. Having Bess be the one to literally smash Odette’s soul was…harsh though. That seemed unnecessarily cruel. Couldn’t they have Nancy do it?

Ace’s parenting gig makes him call his Mom. HAHA

And of course we get this gem of a scene at the end. This episode really DELIVERED

Episode cliffhanger- George is trying to call Nick to tell him the good news (that she’s not gonna die in less than 10 years) but…Ace answers the phone and tells them that..Nick has disappeared!

To be honest I would pay money to be in the spot where they told Scott Wolf and Riley Smith the pitch for episode 07.

Can you imagine?

“Yeah for this episode you guys are gonna be a teenage version of yourselves”.

Probably they were the ones that suggested the idea of using the same clothes their iconic characters were in the other shows.

I really love when the show goes in directions that could sound bananas but it is actually make the best moments of the show.
