the thing is that Kintsugi Kid is a very good example of what the band has described as SO Much (For) Stardust's combination of nihilism and hope. and it's also a good example of the frickin... Dune litany against fear type thing of acknowledging a feeling ("I spent 10 years in a bitter chemical haze and I miss the way I felt nothing") and letting it exist instead of trying to A= get rid of it or B= suppress it and like... what does the litany thing say?? let it flow through you and then only you remain?? that thing. the song ends with Pete's youngest kid screeching in joy because she gets to be a rockstar on a song (I'm not kidding. look at the Genius note.) the whole album is basically a case in this, in saying... yeah. this is the honest truth about how I'm feeling. but it isn't the end.

#the advice for depression is to do the things that you used to enjoy and wait for them to help again #it's good advice and it does work to an extent but listen #i don't choose when i find things enjoyable i fixate on a topic and everything becomes enjoyable again #it's not like doing hobbies or reading or cleaning or eating meals helps THAT much #it just keeps me busy and sane and makes my body keep working until i get some good brain chemical shipped in #then I'll remember everything i've been putting off but at least i'll be relatively functional at that point #it's not that all the depression tips are useless. i'd be much worse if i didn't do any of them #as it is i've made it over 25 years without even developing a nicotine addiction or a crippling dependence on alcohol #my joints are even still fine mostly and i can tell when to get out of a situation so i can keep living #now i even know when i want to be around someone and when i don't! #i'm basically great at existing i've studied with the masters #still.

i mean to each their own but its pretty hard to get physically addicted to psychedelics because they have such diminishing returns. it usually takes 2-4 months between sessions for optimal highs depending on the dosage. But you do you.

I have been addicted to phone apps, to spending money on collage materials, to substances, as an early teen I was so addicted to being online (largely tumblr and reading fanfiction) that I completely destroyed my sleep schedule, stole a laptop, and learned to hack firewalls so I could circumvent my parents taking my phone away and blocking my favorite sites.

When someone says they have an addictive personality, that they cannot do something for risk of becoming dependent on it, it is NOT your place to "well actually-" them. You come across like a MASSIVE asshole, actually. You do not know my history with addiction, or with substance abuse, or the ways we've justified our addictions by saying "well you can't ACTUALLY get addicted to it". If it triggers dopamine, or adrenaline, or oxytocin, or a million other positive feeling neurotransmitters, you can get addicted to it. Do not come into my fucking house and tell me what our bodies are and are not capable of

as a side note I think it's really fucking funny and telling how people will talk about weed addiction but would never accuse someone of being addicted to any other prescription medication. yeah I smoke weed regularly. I also take Wellbutrin an Albuterol inhaler and Klonopin regularly. yeah I can't function sometimes without weed. but I can't sleep if I don't take 3 different sleep medications lmfao
