WELL DO I HAVE THE BOOK SERIES FOR YOU!

The Realm of the Elderlings is a 16-book series is comprised of four trilogies and a quartet. All of which have been finished. Yes that's right, Robin Hobb saw other authors who can't seem to finish their multi-book fantasy epics and said "I will finish mine 4 different times to show you it's incredibly easy actually." She also has written multiple other series (some under the pen name Megan Lindholm), set in different universes.

So, where to start?

The components of RotE are:

The Farseer Trilogy

The Liveship Traders Trilogy

The Tawny Man Trilogy

The Rain Wild Chronicles

Fitz and the Fool Trilogy

The three bolded trilogies above are told from the perspective of FitzChivalry Farseer, one of the main/major characters in this universe and my eternal blorbo. The Liveship Traders trilogy and Rain Wild Chronicles are told from several points of view, and happen in chronological order between the series above and flesh out the worldbuilding, lore, history, etc.

For the most complete look at the universe, you can of course read everything. However if you want to stick with just one character, you can read the three bolded trilogies only. And of course, if you don't want to commit to a metric ton of words either way, you can just read the first trilogy and see what you think. Though I do think the levels of joy/pain/adoration increase with each work as you get more invested in the characters, of course.

OR. You can in fact read the Liveship Traders trilogy or the Rain Wild Chronicles quartet completely independently of the others. I actually started with Rain Wild Chronicles because those books have the highest concentration of dragons--it was actually a follower of this blog who recommended them to me, and I decided to jump into those rather than commit to The Whole Series (which at the time was only 13 books not 16). But I loved the writing style and wanted to learn more about the world, so got into the rest, and now I actually think the Rainwilds books are the weakest of the bunch (though I still enjoyed them initially)!

But You're Following This Blog, DailyDragons, So Here's The Part Of The Pitch You're Actually Invested In

Now I will be up front that you don't get many dragons in the first trilogy. There are a kind of dragons that appear at the end but dragons are not the main focus of this one. However Hobb learns from her mistakes about not including tons of dragons in her fantasy world and you get more in the next parts of the series.

The Liveship books deal with sea serpents and dragons in very interesting ways I don't want to spoil, though it's a slow build. But VERY fascinating reveals into the dragon's biology, life history, and magic.

The plot of the later half of the Tawny Man Trilogy revolves around dealing with how the world of this story used to have dragons but they have practically gone extinct. Less direct contact with dragons but still a dragon-centric last book.

Rainwilds is chock full of dragons. Including as POV characters. Can't complain about lack of dragons here at all.

Fitz & The Fool Trilogy is lighter on the dragons at first and then they show up en force at the end. Ta da!

Femslash fic tournament

Hi everyone! This is the femslash fic tournament. This tournament was inspired by @thecoolerbestfanfictournament. I love it and think it was an excellent idea. But I don't love seeing f/f fics overshadowed because its such a niche and often overlooked part of fandom, so I decided to make a tournament just for them. Please see below the cut for the rules.

Rules:

You can submit any fic that is classified as f/f. Gen fic and multi-category fics can be submitted only if the f/f relationship is the central relationship. Fics based on relationships including a nonbinary character(s) are allowed if they feel to you like they fit the tournament.

All ships are allowed. This tournament is run by one person, and it's just not realistic to think I'm going to be able to enforce content rules. I won't have time to read all fics myself and I won't be familiar with all fandoms. If you don't like something that was submitted, vote against it.

Fics can only be submitted via the form and with a link. Any fics submitted via DMs or asks or fics submitted without a link will not be counted.

I'll take fics hosted on any website as long as the link works. In fact, I'd love to see some pre-AO3 submissions from older sites.

Submissions will stay open through Friday, October 13. After that, I will either do preliminaries to get to 64 or do a first round with more than two fics per poll, depending on the number and average length of submitted fics. The length of each round will be announced later but match-ups will be staggered.

The number of times a fic is submitted will have no bearing on whether or not it gets into the tournament, so please do not submit the same fic multiple times.

I won't publish anti-propaganda. People worked hard on these fics, and I'm not going to use this blog to platform flames.

Why is this called the femslash fic tournament? I picked femslash over alternatives like f/f and wlw because it's the historical term, and this is a celebration of the culture and history of this side of fandom. Also f/f would have been hard to make into a url.

Hello. I promise this is the last time I'll do this (for this exchange). But let's do ONE MORE TIME.

Fic in a Box! Really cool 18+ fandom exchange that's running now, and I am here to lure you into signing up. You can sign up to until the end of the 3rd (midnight EDT).

What makes this fandom special is four things things

it's a 10k exhange, which is why you have until mid-october to get it done.

you can opt into WILD mediums for your fic— dress up game! poetry! fanvid! in-world reddit posts! spreadsheets! Check out the tag set for the full list, it's honestly hundreds of medium options. You're not guaranteed to get any of the mediums you opt into, but it's a possibility! You can even contact the mods to ask to match on a specific medium if you really want to make a ship schematic, or write a triple drabble, or draw a propaganda poster.

Instead of requesting your fic focus on a relationship, there are also Worldbuilding tags you can request. For QSMP, the WB tags are WB: Any (QSMP | Quackity SMP), WB: Egg Revivals (QSMP), WB: Egg/Code Connection (QSMP), WB: Federation Kidnappings & Cryosleep (QSMP). You could request or offer a fic (or art!) that focuses on any of those!

This part is optional, but you can take your 10k, and go to the mods, and request that you Swap some of your assignment, so instead of 10k for UsernameWaterglass, you have 4k for UsernameWaterglass, 3k for UsernameTissueBox, and 3k for UsernameCinnamonRoll. (Really creative usernames there, drawn from the items around me.) And then you still hit 10k on your gift, but in the form of multiple smaller gifts!

The mods don't promise that you'll definitely get a swap, but the more people in the exchange requesting swaps, the more likely it gets. So that is why I'm here now, looking at you with pleading eyes! I want to do some QSMP swaps, but we only have 4 people signed up for QSMP, and we don't have a huge amount of overlap in characters, so some people are still not matchable. I want us to drop some banger fics into the tag and make everybody go OOOOOOO that looks fun why didn't I sign up for FIAB, and then they weep and wail with joy while reading our fics.

DC Comics "They Would Not Fucking Say That!" Poll Tournament

Tournament & Submission Rules

Hello and welcome to our very first tournament! By popular demand, the theme of this competition is "They would not fucking say that!"

This means we are looking for dialog or an action from official DC source material that is painfully, woefully, egregiously out of character (ooc). Let's call this the "Incident". You will need to describe the incident, provide the in-universe context for it, and make a case for why this is ooc.

How and when can I submit?

Enter by filling out this Google form: Click Here

Submissions open as soon as this post goes live, which is Saturday August 12.

Submissions close Wednesday August 23, at 11:00pm EDT (same time zone as New York).

What kind of incident can I submit?

You may submit any single exchange of dialog or single action that occurred in official DC media by a DC character. It must be specific and concise, and not a general overarching way that a character or storyline is handled. You will have a whole "go off" type of section to explain, so save the context and arguments for that. The incident itself should be fairly specific!

Dialog doesn't have to be one single sentence, but do your best to keep it to only the ooc part and be as brief as possible.

Even though the theme of this tournament has "say" in it, we are allowing actions, decisions, etc. Again, keep it to only the ooc portion.

Can I submit more than one incident?

Yes! Just keep in mind to submit only the most heinous of ooc situations.

Note: Multiple entries for the same incident won't affect its standings. But I will do my best to combine the info so that each submitter's voice is heard.

Is this limited to print comics?

No, any DC property is allowed, but keep in mind that you should be clear when making your case if the incident was ooc for that particular incarnation of the character, or if it's relative to comics canon.

You will have to specify what medium or universe they are from. Examples include Arrowverse, DCAU, Webtoon, Post-Flashpoint comics, etc.

How is the bracket handled?

It is very likely we'll have a preliminary round to help with seeding. This would be an opportunity to let the community weigh in on adherence to the theme and interpretation of the incident.

If there is not a preliminary due to low number of entries, and if the submitted incidents seem about evenly weighted, we will go with random seeding.

The tournament will be single elimination. If we somehow get an exorbitant number of submissions, we may do a multi-armed bracket with round robin for the finalists. More detail will be provided here if this happens.

At the moment there is not a set schedule, and pacing will depend on number of entries. So your best bet on catching the next wave of polls is to follow this blog.

Polls will run for seven days each so that there's plenty of time to vote, share and discuss in the reblogs.

Voters should only consider how much of a character assassination the incident is. This means your love or hate for a writer, story or character should not be the deciding factor for your vote.

Can I send in propaganda for an incident once polls are live?

If you want to bolster the argument for an incident being ooc, put it in a reblog! This way it stays with the poll and everyone knows where to look for some extra info.

It is not recommended to send asks with propaganda, as these end up getting buried.

Multi-Color Fandoms Tournament!

I don't know about y'all, but, I've been noticing a lot of these color-themed bracket tournaments going around – like @purpleandyellowshowdown, @blueandorangebracket, @redandgreenpoll, and @redandbluebracket. Every bracket seems to have characters from all the same colorful fandoms too! Wack, huh? Anyway. This tournament is going to decide which one of these FANDOMS with color-coded characters has got the MOST VIBRANT SWAG!!! I'll gather submissions of via Google Forms, and the size of the bracket will be determined by the amount of responses I receive. SO GET GOIN'.

TOURNEY & SUBMISSION RULES:

cove propaganda! i know how long this is but i saw your post approving someone's multi-paragraph anti-propaganda so here goes:

Our Life is the game, no, the literary work that has made me feel the most loved and cared for. Like, it's pretty much the only dating sim i've played where i feel like it's me that is playing it and not some other character. it's just that customizable 

and cove is so sentimental and caring and loving and emotional/pos, like he's so committed and like a dream bc for so many hopeless romantics

-like you'll continuously visit the hill that you first met on growing up and ten years after you meet, you cuddle and fall asleep on the grass there together and it's the cutest most wholesome thing

-you can also get married there

-cove constantly gives words of affirmation and is loving to the point of being clingy but eh, i'm clingy too and it's better than the alternative

-also he's obsessed with the ocean and is so happy and giddy if you visit the aquarium with him. he also loves his pet fish

-and there are moments in this game where you address things that are... less happy. whether that's gender dysphoria or leaving for college or other things, cove and your family and everyone else is so supportive. these moments also made me cry, multiple times haha. this game gives you the supportive family that lgbtq+ people like me can only dream of. also you have two moms in-game :D

the game (and him, by extension) also hugely impacted my life! there's a personal story down below so scroll over this part if you don't want to read all that 

-so i first played this game as a fifteen y/o who got rejected after my crush was nice and cute and amazing and flirty with me for months

-and that hit me so hard and made me scared as fuck about being vulnerable and having crushes on people

-when we were 13 in-game, i genuinely didn't know whether cove had a crush on me or not (he was being so obvious) and i cried when he did and after we kissed bc that never happened to me

-and esp during the moments where we would go on dates and generally be together i would blush and smile so much. and cry happy tears sometimes

-and i was going through a tough time and every day, i would look forward to playing olba whenever i came home from school

-and yeah i know that there are two other love interests but cove was the only free one and although i had a debit card, i didn't want to explain to my parents that i was paying for a dating simulator

-and now thanks to cove, i can actually tell when people have crushes on me now and not constantly doubt myself!!

-so please vote cove, he holds a special place in my heart and probably many other peoples' too. and no this is not a tumblr fake story trust me i suck at making stuff up.

Not to be "that person" but I notice you occasionally reblog stuff with radfem replies. Just checking if you're aware. I know shinigami eyes is controversial when it comes random tumblr users, but some of these blogs are actual loud and proud terfs.

Ough. It’s hard for me to tell because I primarily use mobile so I genuinely just do not know they are. I’d hate to be inadvertently pushing agendas of people that actively seek harm on me or deny my autonomy.

I appreciate the heads up; in the future it’s definitely more helpful to tell me specific posts or users though because ambiguously saying “there’s terfs in your reblogs” doesn’t help me or other mobile users know who to block.

Edit because I did just wake up: It’s just occurred to me you said the replies of post I’ve reblogged. I mean this entirely sincerely, without any malice or irritation, but I genuinely don’t know how you expect mobile users, who don’t have access to plugins like Shinigami Eyes, to spend all the time to individually vet the blogs of every single user that’s responded to a post or been part of a multi-comment reblog chain.

I really do appreciate the sentiment of you looking out for others here but like, I am a 28-year-old working adult with a spouse and hobbies. All my reblogs go into the queue between 7 and 8 in the morning while I’m eating breakfast. I don’t have time to be vetting everyone who responds to every post I chuckle at over my morning tea.

Frankly, as long as I’m not reblogging active TERF propaganda, I trust my followers to use their brains and better judgement. If they click through to the blog of someone who’s replied to a post I’ve reblogged, and find that person offensive or harmful, I trust the people following me (who have chosen to follow an out trans person who often reblogs trans rights activism) to block, report hate speech if necessary, and move on with their days.

Hey mod, I just wanted to say I'm really sorry for everything happening on the Glenn side of things. As someone who's been campaigning really heavily for Glenn (but admittedly hadn't seen all the reblogs and discourse) I truly do hope the majority of us haven't crossed a line.

A lot of people are really taking this too far and it's pretty crazy to watch even from the sidelines. A lot of the propaganda is starting to get really hard hitting toward the opposite side and it's causing so much defensiveness and genuine anger on both sides of the issue and I can say that a lot of us don't support it.

So even though I can't speak for the whole community I would like to say that I've had a few conversations with some other Glenn campaigners and they all are pretty upset with what's been going down too. And I think I can therefore speak for a large amount of us to say sorry that this is happening.

The majority of the DnDads fandom has been fine. The DnDads fandom has been pretty vocal since Round 2 or so (it feels like the only fandom that has been more vocal was the F@tT fandom) which makes the polls fun to run. And other fandoms haven't been perfect either. Plus, who knows how some of those fandoms that were eliminated in Rounds 1 and 2 would be behaving if they made it to Round 8.

The DnDads fandom isn't uniquely bad is what I'm saying, and I've been in fandom (and haterdom) for half my life at this point. So far nothing has surprised me, even if some of it has passed the line of what I consider acceptable.

I came to tumblr due to the anti-Twilight blog reasoningwithvampires, and was so into superwholock I joined a superwholock high school AU tumblr RP group two and a half years later. While I haven't personally been around the most extreme parts of fandom (calling the actual police on someone, faking your own death, racefaking, multi-year sockpuppetting, etc.), I generally know what to expect.

Five works I'm proud of

The Silm/Hobbit crossover because it shows the change I've undergone this year. (Maglor & Ori)

Sic vita est because it is - in my opinion - one of the best representations of who I am as a writer. (genderbent Fëanorians, multi-ship)

Some say the world will end in fire because it was one of the hardest things I've ever written. (In-universe Russingon with a twist)

Blood because it is very different from what I usually write as well. (Vampire Elves)

Song as old as rhyme because it proves that I can update and adapt my HCs and the way I write characters according to new stuff I wanted to try out.

Four new WIPs I am excited to release next year

My (as of yet) untitled MSV fic (I am sweating bullets over it, but I am giving it my best shot)

My art exchange fic with @sortumavaara (Glorestor)

My calendar fic for @frosticenow's calendar event

Different Disney/Musical AUs where I don't know yet which one will make the cut. Depends on how I feel and what people would want to see the most.

Top three improvements

I've taken part in about every event I could get my hands on and I've worked hard on overcoming (or at least challenging) my profound fear of being impertinent by being everywhere all the time.

I don't know if that is an improvement (some people might disagree), but I've taken on a whole slew of new characters. I now write canon x canon, LGBTQ+, queer smut, and an alarming number of elves and Valar.

I have ventured into new (and sometimes uncomfortable) styles, genres, tropes this year. I've dared trying to write some really explicit smut and some profound angst for example.

Top two resolutions

Actually finishing something (really, I just want to bring 1! of my longfics to a close without it fizzling out, lol)

Furthering my nefarious AU propaganda...and maybe letting people in on a broader All-Tolkien (timeline what timeline) AU where I get to play with ALL my blorbos.

Favourite line

How easy it had been to give up the crown of fire and wrath and hand it over to temperate wisdom instead; he could never have been the king Fingon had become and his ultimate failure to defend the one who had shielded him through perils galore was a proof of his ineptitude too terrible to bear.

(I chose one at random, even though I dare say that my favourite line is probably: I love you)
