SOCIAL MEDIA WELLNESS 🌐✨
Tumblr media
INTRODUCTION : ̗̀➛
Hello Internet and welcome back! So, folks today we’re diving deep into the ever-evolving landscape of public health and the unlikely hero – social media. Buckle up as we uncover the twists and turns where social platforms become the digital stage for health advocacy. So, the matters that we are going to uncover right now can really boil down into 4 main buckets – role of social media in public health campaigns, community engagement in mental initiatives, normalization of mental health conversations and access to real-time information and support. So, let’s just take them point by point, shall we?
The Digital Stage for Public Health ┊┊
Tumblr media
So, bucket number one, the roles of social media in public health campaigns. Public health campaigns, my friends, are the unsung heroes of our digital age. Social media apps like Twitter (or known as X now), Instagram, TikTok or Facebook are not just platforms; they’re like the cinematic universe where health advocacy takes the centre stage. It’s like Marvel but with wellness tips instead of superheroes. You see, social media is one of the most powerful tools to talk about public health information and enable rapid and widespread communication. I feel like everyone would understand this, knowing that back in 2020, the big corona (COVID-19) happened and social media was one of the best places to help keep us informed, regardless whether that was in Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. A study done by Al-Dmour et al. (2020), shows that social media has significantly improved public health defences against the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only in public health awareness, but also in public health behavioural changes.
Communities Assemble! ✭
Tumblr media
But it’s not just about broadcasting information. Social media is the main hub for communication – and who are the ones communicating? Us! Social media is not just some big megaphone for health info; but a two-way conversation. A community hub where people can openly share their mental health journeys.  A great movement that people engage in would be the Movember movement. The Movember foundation focuses on an issue that is not really talked about a lot; men’s health issues. The movement is dedicated to help men who suffer from prostate cancer, mental health and more. It raises awareness by challenging the public to not shave their moustache or beard for the whole month of November. According to Cole (2019), Movember has raised over $900m for men’s health to date.
Destigmatizing Mental Health -ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈
One thing that is really great coming from all this is the normalisation of mental health conversations. Saying you have mental illness doesn’t turn heads in a bad way or become a taboo. It’s now empowering and hopeful rather than intimidating or humiliating. Did you know that over 11 billion views have been received by millions of videos with the hashtag #MentalHealth? (Marais, 2023). It’s amazing how social media can help break the ice and reshape society’s view of mental well-being into something that we don’t need to be afraid of. No one needs to be alone or feel alone, especially for their mental health; and destigmatizing this helps people to seek help free of judgement from others.
Info Dump Extravaganza ( ꩜ ᯅ ꩜;)
Tumblr media
Let’s move on to the last bucket which is real-time information and support. Social media is a goldmine of information and researches extravaganza. No matter what social media platform you’re on, it can serve as a real-time infographics or video on public health. It’s just the at the tip of our fingers to find tips or coping mechanisms on health. Not only that, exposes us to the symptoms that we should be more aware of that might need further inspection. There’s a slurry of videos or posts in Instagram or TikTok where people remind others to check and be more aware of our bodies and mind for irregularities. A recent one that has been going around on TikTok lately would be Pink October which is also known as #BreastCancerMonth. A lot of TikTokers have been posting reminders for ladies and girls to self-check breast examination and support those who have been affected (Newsroom TikTok, 2021).
You need therapy. 𖠋
Tumblr media
Yes, I said 4 buckets but 1 big bucket that needs to be addressed especially now is that social media and public health awareness in social media are not your therapists. Social media can be a lot of great things but social media therapy? Let’s unpack this. The social media is just a vending machine spitting out general advice but it would never be personally tailored to one individual but it seems like people – especially younger people – claim to have mental health symptoms that are, in fact, not actual indicators of mental illness. According to Marais (2023), through social media young people were teaching each other how to have tics. This not only is harmful in misdiagnosing themselves, but also might make it harder for mental health professionals to diagnose a person or even lead to insufficient or ineffective treatment. It’s always important always seek professional help! Diagnosing is complicated and is crucial to have a full clinical assessment to get proper diagnosis and treatment.
CONCLUSION (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ
Tumblr media
As we reach the end of this post, let’s remember; the fusion of public heath and social media is a powerful duo but do treat it lightly. It’s great for raising awareness, help people who have been affected, and remind you that you’re not alone nut when it comes to mental health, consult the pros. That is all and always, thanks for reading!

Day 305: Wednesday November 1, 2023 - "Mustachioed for Movember"
Movember Manifesto 2023
Upward Spirals
I dedicate my effort in the month of November to create a healthier lifestyle for my self, and for the global community of men, including my son and his generation, while raising money for Movember with the hopes that my energy creates some upward spirals that disrupt negative cycles.
At my best, I am taking care of my health.  Energetic and disciplined and focused on a task.  When I am at my worst, plagued with anxiety, I would prefer to be lazy and “rest” feeling like I have just too much on my plate; an apathetic victim; but what am I resting up for? How is this a good model for my son?   Can I create a better balance that positively impacts my outlook and engagement in life? Will I start now? Across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence.  Movember serves as motivation to move in dedication to the men lost every minute to suicide, and I will think about them as I battle to get my own self moving, as if pulling my own self up out of the hole of depression.   Getting back into my body is the best way to getting moving in an upward spiral- the best, most natural anti-depressant, and I will bring that energy into my world this month.  Though I am not sure if I can run one mile now at the start, I set the goal of running 60 miles over the course of November.  I also commit that even if it takes into December to get it done, I will cross the finish line.   And I will shave down to a mustache so that others might notice and ask and give me an opportunity to share this main goal.
I will share my story, but also I commit to sharing content, resources, and stories with one post about men’s health and mental health every day of the month of November.  While forcing me to find and learn and explore different areas, I can create some upward spirals by sharing that with others that might spark some change or some enlightenment that helps another person, while also adding foundation to my fundraising efforts.  Specifically, a growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men.  As I age, its time for me to start paying attention to preventative medicine and screenings and being more responsible for my health and I will take this opportunity to learn and share with men in my social media network.  But much of the mental health aspect impacts our relationships with others, and so I will also use this as an opportunity to share what I have learned and experienced with domestic violence, and creating upward spirals for the way we love and express emotions to help others be better husbands and dads.  To this end, I joined the Tired Dad’s group for Movember, whose aim is rooted in the same mission.
I have long come to believe, as helpful as it may seem in the moment, that leaning into substances to get through the day and week is the biggest obstacle to me being a better and more balanced healthy person. I believe many men struggle with the same exact fate as responsibilities seem to outweigh the energy needed to take care of yourself, and once you lean into the crutch of choice, its another day of not accepting the invite into that better story.  To help support the goals and the meaning of this Movember month, I dedicate to a substance free lifestyle.  Where I need a crutch, I’ll turn to meditation.  Where I need stress relief, I’ll turn to the bike or yoga or reading.  I will save my self for the work at hand, and take a break in the name of an upward spiral because I know thats in the way.
And now the real responsibility in being a man - following through on my word knowing that if I can do my part, I will better for it, men around me will be better and inspired, and Movember can help continue support projects that support men’s health from my successful fundraising.
Song: Dax (feat. Darius Rucker) - Be A Man

Both women and men have issues throughout the world, but there's organizations and movements that address issues without being hateful and MRAs seeing misandry as bad and then being misogynistic and fighting against helping women is something to consider about them. Some of the positive organizations I like to help men are the Movember Foundation for men's health and 1 in 6 for male victims of sex crimes. There's so many out there that are doing good work and making a difference!
I meant to respond to this anon originally.
For anyone interested in some recommended men's health services, please refer to Movember Foundation and 1 in 6!

Nailers’ Tyler Drevitch: ‘Take Someone Close to You to Battle with You’
Tumblr media
Grow it goofy is his strategy. That way people will ask, and when they do, awareness is raised. At least that’s how Tyler Drevitch goes about raising funds for the “Movember” Foundation, and this year he’s concentrating on raising mental health awareness. The foundation promotes the “Movember” event – and the growing of mustaches – to raise money to boost awareness of men’s health issues. He’s been a “Mo Bro” for three years now. “It’s really cool that so many of my teammates join in because the more money we raise, the more awareness we can raise, and that’s what’s more important than anything else,” said Drevitch, a forward with the Wheeling Nailers. “It’s a fun way for us to make people think about a very serious issue in our society, and when that happens, hopefully, people discuss the issues and maybe someone will get the help they need when that happens. “You can’t always see someone’s mental health and how they are doing,” he explained. “It’s a big thing and that’s why you’ve seen people be so much more open about it in the past few years. In every corner of life, people are battling the issues they have, and they deserve our support. More than 50 percent of all Americans will be, at some point during their lives, diagnosed with a mental illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “It’s very likely that you have no idea that someone close to you is experiencing some issues,” Drevitch said. “In some cases, they are battling themselves and even their best friend or spouse might not ever know. That’s why I want people to know it’s OK to ask for help. Have a conversation with someone because it’s going to help, trust me. Take someone close to you to battle with you.” “My goal was to raise $500 last year, and I ended up raising a total of $700, and that was great and very much appreciated,” he said. “So far this year I have raised about $300 and it usually picks up toward the end of the month, and that’s a very good thing because this year’s goal is to get to $1,000 raised.” Gianluca Esteves, Dreitch, Justin Addamo, and Bobby Hampton are showing off their mustaches at the rink. Team Effort But here’s the problem … not every Wheeling Nailer can grow a mustache. “Yeah, but the peach fuzz is cute,” Drevitch said with a healthy giggle. “They’ll get there one day.” The Nailers, now 5-7 and in fourth place in the ECHL’s Central Division, will play the Indy Fuel on Thanksgiving Eve (7:10 p.m.) and Toledo this Sunday (4:10 p.m.) at Wesabanco Arena. The fans in attendance will be reminded of Drevitch’s fundraiser and he hopes they will support him as well. “The fans supported me last year through donations, but I’m really hoping they grow crazy mustaches, too,” he said with a snicker. “It’s hard to tell on the ice, but I do hope they are having fun with it so people ask about it. When that happens, that’s when we can explain it and that spreads awareness all over the place. Max Johnson is another Nailer supporting Drevitch's Movember effort. “It’s all about getting people to talk about it because, for far too long, people have only whispered about things related to mental illness because they’ve been embarrassed. Well, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about at all,” Drevitch said. “All the fans have to do is find the link I have online and that’s how they can donate to what we’re doing.” His “Mo Bro” profile states, “$50 can help prepare a man with a plan on how and when to reach out to a friend who’s struggling with their mental health through the Movember Conversations program.” “I want to try to double it every year, so we’ll see if I am successful,” Drevitch insisted. “Almost half of the team is in on it this year and that’s really a cool thing because I believe mental illness is something that touches all of our lives. “We may not talk about it much, but it’s inevitable these days, I believe,” he added. “So, if we can get someone that help by growing crazy facial hair, why not do that?” Read the full article

'Some of the best DJs in the country right now are female I somehow convinced a music merchandising company to hire me from afar and really took a chance on how that would pan out but thankfully now I can confidently say that it worked out just fine. Moving to LA over New York definitely raised some eyebrows, but I was always passionate about music, so for me it was the obvious place to go. I have one of my best friends who also went to NCAD, Amanda Grogan on speed dial for career and life chats. Amanda has built her own company called Make It Black in New York City. Make It Black is an innovative dye service that transforms clothing waste for luxury brands by making them black. It is invaluable to have somebody who shares the same ambition as you on hand. Creating and building a brand always comes with some self doubt and “WTF am I doing” moments at the peak of pressure, but being able to laugh about it and persevere is key. Thank you Paul Soul Entertainment. We will be booking you again for sure. Radio legend, Kelly Anne Byrne plays a back-to-back set with Mother's resident DJ Ruth Kavanagh. Together, these ladies are said to create a "synergy that lifts the roof off any space it invades." "Movember is doing so much to change the face of men’s health. I’m very proud to be part of this year's launch and hope our night raises awareness and much-needed support." The event will take place Friday, October 29 at Pygmalion, South William Street. Tommy’s ‘Skull Crushing Techniques’ EP released last year is still resonating across dancefloors all over the world. mack peace Dax J, Mall Grab and Fjaak are among the long list of DJs that have used his tracks to take their set to another dimension. According to reviews, you can expect a mix of r&b, hip hop and dance music! The dance floor is spacious and every Saturday night there’s a DJ bopping away. This is a rocking piece made of 4 accomplished musicians. The band has amassed lots of experience from playing with other successful acts such as The Frames, and James Vincent Mc Morrow and Jerry Fish. https://music.fullspot.me/ For a wedding gig, the group brings a set list of upbeat and fun music. They were formed in 1988 by Justin Broadrick after Broadrick left the first recorded line up of Napalm Death on the SCUM album and G. Melding influences ranging from electronic music to dub, Godflesh’s innovative music is widely regarded as a foundational influence on both industrial metal and post-metal. Twenty years active; six highly prized albums; over 600 shows on four continents. A viral sensation, the track has amassed over 6.6 million streams, hit #1 on both UK and Ireland Shazam Charts and continues to climb the singles charts too. In the UK, it’s currently #24 in the UK charts and #28 in the Airplay charts having picked up playlist support from BBC Radio 1, Capital FM and Kiss FM. With the recent addition of Plugd Records upstairs, The Roundy now hosts a huge variety of music gigs and club nights every weekend. It’s a great place to check out if you fancy a more low-key type of night with the best music and a friendly crowd. Frontman Simon Hough was magnificent and urged the seated audience to cast aside their chairs and get down to the front of the stage. A small pub with a tiny dance floor tucked down the very back, this place is run by music lovers for music lovers. I’ll always have a big space in my heart for Hangar as well. It’s a balls to the wall warehouse with a big old void sound system that makes your diaphragm vibrate like a jackhammer. I’ve had some of my most memorable moments as a DJ playing there, among them a person from the crowd throwing me a taxidermied squirrel and shouting up, “Mate, that’s the party animal”. The Residents are pleased to announce their 50th Anniversary 'Dog Stab! However the main thing is, at the end of the day, they provide the best Ireland party DJ and corporate event DJs that can provide cover for any level of event no matter how high profile it is! Providing DJ hire services in Dublin, Kerry and southern Ireland. Entertainers Ireland offer Ireland’s top commercial DJ’s and MC’s suitable for all events.
Wedding DJ Hire Ireland
Support is from young finglas rapper Lorcan & Craig Cooney who both bring different flavours and bouncy tunes to get the party started. Paro Pablo & Slick Bullet are two Dublin Artists with bags of experience arguably two of the most talented in the country in their own lanes. B_Real.11 is from Liverpool another like the co headliners on the card he speaks about gritty real life experience. So for all you real ones this is a show you don’t want to miss packed with stacks of talent. Hour of the Ox tells a story of longing and desperation for something connected.
CHECK ME OUT ON
It's at times a little labyrinthine as it occupies 3 floors and a roof garden, each with many different rooms and areas and sometimes resembling a townhouse sitting room that's been overrun with people. The music is great, the cocktails are lethal and it's definitely one of the more affordable nights out in Dublin. The ground floor stage doubles as a great dance floor and the club as a whole has plenty of space for dancing. We can create the perfect intimate atmosphere by playing all the songs that you and your guests love. This week, we’re taking things uptempo, by checking in with some of the country’s leading DJs to find out the country’s best dancefloors, club nights and live venues. The first time in history that an album entirely produced, recorded and mixed by the band and released on the bands own label has reached the top 20. Today, Dehd announces Blue Skies, their third full-length and debut record for Fat Possum, and presents its lead single/video, “Bad Love.” Additionally, they’ve announced a slew of UK live dates this spring. You may not know this but it is actually possible to DJ using free apps on your smartphone – but just because the app is free doesn’t mean the person using it is a great DJ. As important as the decks is the sound and light equipment used by your DJ. Top of the range Pioneer decks going through a cheap PA system is pointless. This 7 piece fully live band are dedicated to performing the music of Jeff Lynne, known as the creator of ELO and producer to many world famous acts such as George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & Roy Orbison to name a few. This outstanding list of musical colleagues also lead to the formation of "The Travelling Wilburys", in which Jeff Lynne also featured as a member. Toria’s sound is best described as an indie rock composition which is greatly complimented by her band. Raised on the likes of David Bowie and Jeff Buckley, she takes influence from these incredible artists as well as Tamino. Manamon's musical influences are rich in scope, ranging from Elliott Smith to Grimes, and Bonobo to Soccer Mommy. Mood is central to the expansive musical landscape throughout her releases. Darkened corners, icy atmospheres and hypnotic knife edge soundscapes. The final section of our guide to the best nightclubs in Dublin is packed with more popular clubs, with a mix of new and old. Its interiors are elegantly decorated with red leather couches, cosy lighting and a gilded baby piano. Here you will find great DJs and live music from Thursday till Saturday.

Week 2.1 Connectivity and Research Campaign research:
“Movember is an international campaign that aims to raise funds and awareness for men's health. In New Zealand, Movember supports the Cancer Society (prostate cancer) and Mental Health Foundation (Out of the Blue depression campaign).”
Their purpose: “Movember looks at mental health through a male lens, focusing on prevention, early intervention and health promotion.
We’re working towards a world where men take action to be mentally well, and are supported by those around them.”
The campaign uses neutral beiges browns and blues that work well together and are soft and inviting to the eye without taking away from the message. They feel comforting and safe, this was used to create that particular atmosphere for men struggling with their emotions. As well as to let the typography be the spotlight.
The typography used with headers is punchy and easily readable in bold, with no feet and all capitals. They splash slogans and direct messages in this type
“WE CAN’T SIT BACK AND ACCEPT THIS.”
“GLOBALLY, ON AVERAGE, 1 MAN DIES BY SUICIDE EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY.”
This is to hit the viewers with something they will remember and hopefully process easily to form an understanding.
Within this campaign Movember, what they do is offer support if you directly are struggling and how to spot if someone else is. Things to do to raise funds for the cause - growing a moustache, a 60km run etc. And sections of what they work through, e.g cancer, moving to men’s mental health and advice with that, steps. 'talk more, stay connected...' They also feature stories from men going through the experiences. I liked this as it brings a comfortable relatable standpoint that can put struggling men at ease knowing they are on the same level as other Kiwi men.
They offer statistics, informational videos and a downloadable step-by-step of how they are going to help men’s mental health on their site.

Good deed
I just did a thing that was big on my Christmas bucket list but I wasn't sure how I could do it: I did something for charity! I donated 50$ of my very hard earned and limited money (as I'm a student, that's a lot of money for me - more than my boyfriend and I spend on our weekly groceries actually).
I donated 50$ to support the Movember project, that I got in touch with through James Turner on Youtube (great guy btw, love his videos). Movember raises awareness and wants to make a change in the suicide rate of men, which are statistically more likely to take their own lives than women. Mental illness/issues and suicide are topics very close to me, so I am very grateful and happy that I got to support the Movember Foundation that wants to reduce the suicide rate in men by 25% until 2030.
Why don't you chip in a few dollars too - even just 5!, and help them save young mens lives?
Here's the link I got from James Turner YT, which I hope he's okay with me sharing:

Love you all and take care! ♡

The Movember Foundation has a clear goal: By 2030, it aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 per cent. In Australia, three out of four suicides are men, and more than six men die by suicide each day.

The world record currently stands at 23 years and 365 days old. The record comprises a few rules which have to be adhered to in order for the record to be authenticated, these include; Travelling more than 24,500 miles and reaching specific destinations on opposite sides of the planet.

The Movember Foundation is a charity that focusses on men's health issues; specifically prostate cancer and mental health. They have an existing connection with the motorcycle community through The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, which I Henry has taken part in several times. Their work is vital to the reduction of male suicide and deaths from cancer that could have been avoided, if detected sooner.
