May 2022: For The Monarchs
I put bird netting over our swamp milkweed today:

To prevent this. Apparently, Monarchs taste bad to birds is a learned behavior:

I tied the bird netting to a couple of tomato cages with strips of old pantyhose:

Hey this is Ms Aradus depressus AKA Pale-shouldered flatbug. Listen, ive been looking through the notes on that post and apparently "Aradus depressus" is similar to "Aradia" which is apparently a homestuck character or something
Being the open minded flatbug I am, here's what's gonna happen. If the creature resulting from this prompt is a furry animal of some kind, I will read homestuck. If it's a lizard, I will NOT read homestuck. If it's a bug, I will read homestuck and change my pfp to "Vriska" since I think she's controversial or something. Thanks for the new name btw :3

Moth Mullein
Verbascum blattaria
The plant gets its name for the resemblance of the flowers stamen to a moths antennae. The plant has been used for centuries over as a natural effective cockroach repellant though can be very invasive as they are a hardy species resilient to many pests and diseases.

27/07/2023-Photos at home and wild parts of my day in Winchester, at Lakeside and home
Pictures in this set are of: 1 and 8. Spiders last night and tonight, the latter a Noble False Widow I believe. 2 and 7. Colourful flowers in the garden this evening. 3. Agrimony which I have enjoyed seeing in the garden lately. 4. Lovely House Sparrows in the garden this morning. 5. Lovely Woodpigeon this evening, I really enjoyed hearing them when I went into the garden and in Winchester a lot today. 6. Some mullein, possibly moth mullein which I was surprised and thrilled to see in the garden I do like them. 9. The sunflower in the garden. 10. Blazing star in the garden.
It was very powerful to go out into the garden briefly tonight, stand still and be immersed in nature. That Woodpigeon call and sounds around, gorgeous Swift flying over, busy bee on the yellow buddleia alongside the stunning flowers. The more I looked the more I encountered, beautiful moments. Goldfinch including young was good to see at home tonight too. Cutting through Lakeside on the way home I had valuable natural moments too, another sensational view of Purple Hairstreak this summer, Woodpigeons, pineappleweed, top views of Red Admiral as I got with two flying high and around coming down the road earlier in my commute and Speckled Wood and a view of a delicate Pearl Veneer which was a great moth to see. In Winchester a quartet of birds; Blue Tit seen and heard by the river, stunning views of I believe Rosie the young and an adult Peregrine probably Winnie the Mum seeing them still and flying at St. Thomas Church and enjoying hearing their distinctive almost eerie call sounding out loudly like an alarm, Jackdaws that almost joined me for lunch with intimate views of them on the next bench along and ground around me and a quick view of a Jay this morning. Hemp agrimony in Abbey Gardens and out the front, wood avens in Winchester and traveller's joy by Lakeside this morning were other flower highlights today.

Todays foraging adventure was bountiful✨☀️
Going from left to right starting at the top of the last photo we have Queen Anne’s Lace flowers and leaves, stringy stonecrop, a small yarrow flower, red clovers, dandelion flowers, (center pile) lamb’s quarters, wild apple, grape leaves and green grapes, hosta leaves, moth mullein, and finally a pile of bitter dock!
I hope you all have a chance to spend some time in nature today! Be sure to plant your tootsies in some grass or moss to get that good grounding action goin on.(:
Remember to be kind to everyone, even those who do you wrong, and be sure to do something good for society today!
I’ll be back on the live stream later this evening✨☀️
Until then be well🖤

May 2022: Planting In The Garden
We prepped the backyard garden bed for planting on Tuesday. That’s postal wrap that we’re using as a biodegradable weed barrier:

We had found this sweet pea plant growing in a fallow field on the way to Plot 420. It didn’t survive transplanting but it looks like we might get some viable seeds:

The moth mullein that we grew from seed last year is going to bloom this year:

The gray squirrels have been gnawing on our Japanese maple:

We finished the beds today:

Hagging Out - October 2022
I was excited to sign up for this month's hagging out, and then when the time came to document things, I remembered: a lot of what I had planned is secret/personal. So, I don't have a lot to show for this month, but I'll share what I can.
I made a little wreath featuring origami moths. There were other decorations as well, but this is the one I made.
Tumblr media
On Halloween night I gave out candy to the neighborhood kids, then turned off my porch light, closed all the curtains and proceeded to get weird. I won't go into much of what I got up to for the nights of the 31st - 2nd, but I will say that I got a lot more into scrying than I have in the past, which was cool because I've historically gotten bored and given up before anything neat happened.
As threatened in the August edition of Hagging Out, I made some witch torches using a dried mullein seed head which I harvested at that time. It was about 3' long, so I cut it into thirds before saturating it with beeswax. I'd never made a witch's torch before, and was afraid that it wouldn't burn very well, but boy, once it started burning, it really burned!
Tumblr media
I'd planned on having a little fire as well, but since it was raining all night I ended up hanging out in the garage for much of the evening.
On November 2nd I got dim sum with my parents and aunt, in honor of my Great Uncle, who always used to meet us for dim sum when we were in San Francisco. Then I went home and dedicated most of the day to ancestor work. Again, I won't go into most of the details, but I made offerings of bread, chocolate, wine, water, and many, many candles.
It was nice having a couple of extra days off to focus on spirit and ancestor work, but now I have a horrifying amount of work to catch up on.
tagging @pagan-stitches with my submission, such as it is

Flower can be easier to photograph on an overcast day than on a brightly sunny one. This moth mullein is technically a non-native plant, but it’s been here for such a long time that it seems like an academic distinction. It is non-invasive* in our area; it pops up in open areas or roadside but doesn’t make a pest of itself. The same goes for foxglove.
Tumblr media
I planted these years ago, but they have never moved out of the narrow range between the woods and field where I first planted them.
Tumblr media
Home.
[ID: A tall spike of white flowers with a little pink, a group of magenta foxgloves growing among tall weeds, and a wide shot of the farm yard including the woodshed, house, vegetable garden, and many trees.]
* Remember that usually a non-native plant is only a problem if it is also invasive, reproducing way more than the native plants it’s competing against.
