I've seen a lot of people comparing Huskerdust to a healthy version of Stolitz and it's kinda got me thinking... Staticmoth as the evil fucked up version of Fizzmodeus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THINK ABOUT IT!!!!! The parallels between Val and Ozzie are obvious. Like that man wants to be Ozzie so bad it's insane, from the way he dresses to the way he decorates to straight up OWNING A ROBO FIZZ, Val clearly wishes he was the embodiment of Lust. But are there parallels between Vox and Fizz? Actually, surprisingly yeah. They're both showmen, like aggressively so. They're very public figures, with their face all over every product in Hell(albeit Vox is doing it a lot more purposefully then Fizz). Fizz's antagonism towards Blitzø is actually pretty reminiscent of Vox's towards Alastor(except Fizz and Blitzø have a lot more baggage lmao), and they even share some aesthetic similarities! Specifically the colors of Fizz's robotic limbs matching Vox's overall color scheme. Which speaking of robots, that's probably their biggest similarity overall: they're both partially made of technology. I hesitate to say cyborg because Idk how much that applies to Vox, since object heads aren't typically classified as cyborgs as far as I know, and we don't actually know how much of Vox is organic(also cyborg is just one of those words I have an inexplicable dislike of Idk-), but like. Think cyborg I guess. Like Vox is a LOT more of a dick and probably doesn't have a very tragic backstory? Maybe? Unclear. But the similarities are undeniable.
Okay, now that individual parallels are out of the way, how could their relationship to eachother parallel Fizzmodeus? Starting with baseline aesthetics: they got the height difference. It's not as dramatic as Fizz and Ozzie's but TO BE FAIR, Huskerdust are the same way(their height difference is obvious, but not as massive as Blitzø and Stolas'). Staticmoth is also very buisness-partners-with-benefits and some hints at deeper feelings, which is how we were introduced to Fizzmodeus. I don't think Val and Vox feel the need to hide their romantic feelings? But tbh it could go either way we haven't seen much of their dynamic yet. That's kinda where the similarities I could spot find because see previous sentence, so let's move onto the differences!
I think a good way to breakdown what makes Staticmoth toxic Fizzmodeus is actually by bringing Alastor and Blitzø back in to compare and contrast how Val handles Vox's rivalry with how Ozzie handles Fizz's. In Radio Killed the Video Star, the only reason Val tells Vox that Alastor is at the hotel is to piss him off. He clearly enjoys Vox's reaction, and keeps egging him on. Teasing him about it. Which like, friendly teasing between partners is well and good, but Val is clearly just doing it cause he wants to see a fight and doesn't care about how distressed Vox is about this. Vox goes off on his own and sings a fuckin banger, gets publically humiliated, causes a massive blackout. Val doesn't really do shit to help him out, just kinda sits there and. Idk watches? Unclear what the other Vees are actually doing because most of Stayed Gone takes place in funny TV land where Vox is capable of bending reality to his whim for the sake of visual interest. But what Val is actively doing during the musical number isn't important so who cares. What's important is that he egged Vox on, convinced him that confronting Alastor right then was a good idea, and then just sat back as Vox got so pissed off he had a meltdown. Which I SWEAR I'm not trying to dramatize this scene it just sounds really fucking bad when you write it all down from this perspective. I think it's also worth noting that all of this is DIRECTLY AFTER Vox did the exact opposite for Val, calming him down so he doesn't make a fool of himself in public.
Meanwhile compare that to how Ozzie handles Fizz and Blitzø's relationship. During House of Asmodeus, once Fizz realizes Blitzø is there, he starts publically roasting him about how shitty his love life is. Ozzie encourages him, and even gives him a little congratualtions in the background when Verosika joins in for changing the subject, but the difference here is that House of Asmodeus takes place in a much more controlled environment, so it's less likely either of them will have to face consequences for being assholes. There's also how Ozzie's encouragement is just a lot more genuine. Like "yeah babe, go insult that guy who traumatized and abandoned you whoo!" rather then "hey hey look there's that guy you hate. You should go fight with him lmao show him who's boss." Then there's the ending. At the end of both Stayed Gone and House of Asmodeus, Vox and Fizz eat shit and die. Don't worry they're both fine like immediately after, but while in House of Asmodeus Ozzie immediately rushes over to Fizz to make sure okay, we uh. Do not see Vox interact with anybody but Alastor in the direct aftermath of his eating shit and dying, which is fair because he's in his weird little gamer cave. Then we skip straight to the Vees having a meeting to decide what they're gonna do about Alastor, and we don't really know what any of them were doing in the interim between the end of Stayed Gone and the meeting, so uh this part of the comparison kinda falls flat. But again something worth noting is that Val just straight up. Does not care about Alastor during the meeting scene. He's sitting there bedazzling his fucking gun BY HAND with school glue and rhinestones, not even paying attention to the meeting, despite being the one to get Vox all riled up about Alastor IN THE FIRST PLACE.
In short: Val encourages Vox to fight Alastor without thinking it through, doesn't bother to help out during the actual fight, and then immediately stops caring the moment the fights over. Meanwhile Ozzie, while encouraging Fizz to pick on Blitzø, backs him up the whole time, and while still supportive of his boyfriend, doesn't actively encourage Fizz to do things that would get him hurt. Ozzie also supports Fizz by refusing to let Blitzø have an Asmodean crystal because he knows Fizz wouldn't like it! Which is the exact opposite of pissing your partner off on purpose so you can watch a fight!!! And if that isn't enough evidence for you, then uh. I guess you could compare how Val treats... just everybody around him, really, with how Ozzie does(but that's more individual character analysis than relationship analysis). Or you could talk about how fed up with Val's shit Vox clearly is in comparison to the mutual support of Fizzmodeus. Or how. Val throws a glass at Vox. And breaks his phone. And then Vox has to scream in his face to get him to listen-
Idk how to end this so uh. DEMON ATTACK RAH!!! 👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹

ROTI phone hcs, go!!!
Anne Maria:
The phone case is pink.
VERY PINK.
Pink & purple leopard print. I am right. You can’t fricking deny it
She has a phone string with purple and golden charms on it
It’s a pretty new model.
There’s a crack on the upper right corner.
She has trouble typing up the code with her nails, so she has Touch ID.
Her lockscreen is probably some bad pic of her and her gal pals or a great one of her and Vito
Her home screen is some dreamy purple background. Probably some clouds with tiny sparkles all around
Her ringtone… this one was hard. I don’t know any techno! I decided to go with like the one song I know, Evacuate The Dancefloor by Cascada.
She has a special ring tone for Vito, Everytime We Touch (also by Cascada)
She talks about the most unhinged gossip on the phone in public
Every contact is saved with a pretty emoji next to them (Jo insisted that if she HAD to have her name saved with a heart, it had to be the black one)
B:
Nah, kidding.
He has a clear phone case. Simple, but efficient.
His phone is pretty old, and he knows it inside out.
His phone has been through some shit, but the screen is somehow intact.
His Lock Screen is probably some pretty science-ish thing, like a butterfly nebula.
His Home Screen is just one of the default ones.
His ringtone (I don’t know why anyone would call him, but anyway) is some instrumental… I can’t come up with what he’d listen to tbh.
Absolute meme lord. Has a meme or a GIF for every occasion.
He has one alarm at 6:30 every day and never misses it (TEACH ME YOUR WAYS B)
Brick:
Black leather phone case. Dare to tell me I’m wrong. I am not.
His phone is absolute blasted. You cannot tell me there aren’t at least ten cracks. That man is a KLUTZ
These bullet points really show you who my favourite character is up until now
His lock screen and home screen are the same green army pattern background.
He changes the Home Screen to a picture he stealthily took of Jo
Old model.
iPhone? What is that???
His ringtone is absolutely awful. No song in mind, but Brick just sounds like someone with absolutely no taste in music.
Reveille is his alarm sound which goes off at 0600 hours every day. He’s also an adept at waking up with one alarm. Bro is always ready to seize the day
Talks ridiculously loud over the phone
Has absolutely no social media. He is nowhere
Cameron:
Bought a phone with the prize money
It’s one of his most prized possessions
His mom bought him one of those mom phone cases with the wrap in front (I don’t know how to word that correctly)
It’s black
His lock screen is a picture of a butterfly. Not just any butterfly! A Danaus plexippus (AKA a monarch butterfly - the orange and black ones with those little white dots)
His home screen is a picture of him with Mike and Zoey
His phone is a pretty new model. His mom was afraid it would overheat too much if he had an older one
His ringtone is You’ve Got A Friend In Me
He doesn’t need an alarm because his mom wakes him up every day
Dakota:
Pink,pink,pink!
Bubblegum pink!
She has a personalised pop socket! It has D written in gold and the rest is - you guessed it - pink
Her lock screen is a picture of her and Sam (cutie piessss)
Home Screen is her favourite picture of her
It’s the newest model (obvi)
Touch ID & Facial recognition for easy use
Has paparazzis on speed dial
Her ringtone is Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
If you have some time, check out the music video. The last few seconds are PRICELESS
She has every social media app you can think of
She’s verified too!!
Uses emojis religiously. Always uses !! or ?? instead of a single sign
Dawn:
Got a phone solely to be able to give tarot readings over call
She gives the money she makes from it to associations
She has a clear phone case, but she put an upright Fool card in it
It symbolises innocence and free spiritedness
I looked it up on Wikipedia. Thanks Wikipedia (Henry Cahill would be disappointed)
It’s a decently old model, but she doesn’t plan on changing it anytime soon
Somehow always charged
Her homescreen and lockscreen are different pictures of her friends (both human and animal)
Has a ringtone, but she can somehow always sense when someone will be calling a few seconds before it starts ringing
It’s probably some New Age music (Gwen: 😖)
Always answers 3 to 5 business days after you send a message. It’s better to call her directly
Jo:
A simple black phone case
Her Lock Screen is just a black background with white text that says: “Why are you even touching my phone?”
Her home screen is literally the worst picture of Brick ever.
She always manages to catch him at the worst moments
He used to hate it, but he finds it endearing now
Again, you can really see who are my favourites rn
Her workout playlist goes hard!
Her ringtone is It’s My Life by Bon Jovi
She doesn’t have an alarm
Alarms are for chumps
You’ll die before you ever see her use an emoji.
There’s a few cracks around the lower corners
It’s a miracle there aren’t more considering how much it falls while she runs
Her voice mail says: “It’s Jo. Just don’t call me.”
Lightning:
Newest model. There is no way he isn’t one of those people who change phones every time a newer one comes out
Has a personalised phone case.
It’s a blue one, with yellow lines, his jersey number and his name
Both the Home Screen and Lock Screen are pictures of him
As it should, king!!
His workout playlist is also great
He listens to Brick’s music recs too much though, so it’s not as good as Jo’s
Only sends voice messages
Sends every sports video he ever sees to Jo and Brick
Jo nearly blocked him because of it
Has an awesome group chat with the rest of his football team
Again, my favourites really show
His ringtone is Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5
Thought Jagger was a football player for the longest time
Mike & Co.
Mi: Black phone case so the system won’t go crazy
Mi: His Lock Screen & Home Screen is a picture of him and Zoey
The System: Writes out entire convos in the notes app
V: Everytime he’s in control, he changes the Home Screen to a picture of him and Anne Maria
V: He also calls her every single time
Cutie pie
V: voice messages are his thing
V: definitely dropped it a dozen times. It’s cracked all over.
S: Follows every gymnast you can think of on social media
S: She’s the reason Mike has a Russian keyboard too
S: Her and Simone Biles are literally besties
S: Forced him to install Duolingo to learn Russian
Mi: He makes her learn Italian
MS: Tries to install dating apps every time he’s on the phone
MS: Searches for “Single Women In The Area” way too many times for it not to be concerning
Reminder: He’s married.
MS: Mike changed the password and no one can tell him what the new one is
C: “Alarms? Back in my day, we woke up with the sun!” *disables it*
C: Also doesn’t know the new password
Ma: Are you kidding? Obviously doesn’t know the password.
Ma: Guessed it once, and changed Mike’s ringtone to fart sounds
Mi: The original ringtone was Under Pressure by David Bowie & Queen
V: Likes to change it to Ice Ice Baby because Mike won’t notice it instantly
Ice Ice Baby <3 Thank you Laurie Elliott
Sam:
A Mario phone case. No other option.
His Lock Screen is the same as Dakota’s
CUTIE PIESSSSS OMG I LOVE THEM SO SO MUCH ASIDHDHS
*cough*
Anyways, his Home Screen is probably some game related Easter Egg.
Not an actual easter egg jic someone gets the wrong idea
His ringtone is Jump Up Superstar by The Living Tombstone
My personal fav version is the one by VGR
It’s a pretty new model
Dakota offered to buy him a newer one but he said it wasn’t necessary
It always has a low battery percentage so he carries a charger everywhere
Definitely a moderator on a few gaming rated subreddits or Discord servers
A lot more low-key than his gf on social media
They have matching profile pictures
Scott:
His phone is a hand me down
It’s so old it’s nearly a family heirloom
Dude doesn’t have a phone case
It SHOWS. His phone is beat up.
His lockscreen is a photoshopped pic of his sister’s head on the body of a donkey.
They’re each others biggest hater
His homescreen is just a big pile of dirt.
It always reminds him of home.
I’m having so much fun with this one you have no idea
Scott and Jo have the most insane Twitter beef I swear
There’s a Tumblr account dedicated to it.
Scott also has several fan accounts (all ran by me lmao)
His playlist is absolutely insane.
The only Kanye songs I listened to are Monster & American Boy - because he’s awful - and they’re both 10/10 songs I fear
Scott actually has an amazing taste in music
Dude probably loves Whistle
I hate to admit it but it’s a good song
His ringtone is Right Round by Flo Rida & Ke$ha
Staci:
Phone case is light blue.
Both backgrounds are family photos
The family group chat is crazy
She makes it her job to alter Wikipedia articles every weekend
Her calendar is full of family functions
Her ringtone is Beautiful atiful Liar by Beyoncé and Shakira
Unfortunately her music taste is great too
Her voice messages are infinitely long. So are her voice mails
Multiple people from Total Drama (Jo and Scott) have her blocked
Zoey:
Her phone case is clear. She slipped a Polaroid photo of the Revenge cast inside
She made her phone string herself. It’s full of cute charms like little mushrooms, flowers, ladybugs, leaves…
Her Lock Screen is a cute (and slightly goofy ) picture of her, Cam and Mike
Her Home Screen was a group selfie taken on a girl’s night she had with the Revenge girls. Jo has her middle finger out - it was painted black at Dakota’s insistence-, Dakota and Anne Maria are posing while Dawn and Staci have each other in a half-hug and Zoey is taking the picture and doing a peace sign
I should draw that sometimes…
Anyway, Zoey is definitely an avail emoji user too. Also kaomojis (/*•*)/
Her ring tone is Take Me Away by Christina Vidal
Freaky Friday anyone??
She posts the cutest pics on social media
Tries to defuse the Jo/Scott beef
Fails, miserably

OK do you ship dinahboose and if you do I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS. ( I saw you where analyzing ceeb’s characterization sooo) if not just use this as a free space to ramble about something else idk 💀
Tumblr media
it is 1:am but I am so desperate to ramble and I also will take any excuse to draw any ship I like ever which is almost too many so excuse me if I sound nonsensical
^^!!
OKAY I LOVE DINAHBOOSE obv I've been into this musical for a total of 2 weeks or so- so I'm still scrounging every bit of Information on these guys that I can. And I've done wayyy more research on CB than I have Dinah ( he has a lot more to look at though ) but these two just make sense to me. They just make sense. Opposites but not opposites. They are confusing and they are both confused. But at least they can hold hands while confused.
Personally I struggle to ever hate or dislike ships unless there's like a blindingly obvious reason to dislike a ship. But dinahboose is probably my second favorite ship so far for StEx ( Electraboose has 1st place and Krupp/purse has 3rd )
Totally not gonna use this to talk about my personal rewrite of StEx.. specifically C.B. because I don't want to make a post just for it LMAO.
So yeah I've been basically studying C.B. ( or, I guess caboose because he hasn't been called C.B in a long time... but C.B has more personality.. ) and my version of C.B. is probably a horrible amalgamation of OLC and 2015 Bochum. Because I love radio aesthetics and the Dinah friendship but I also love the toy soldier aesthetic and absolutely batshit laugh ( I also love it when C.B. is played by somebody too flexible for their own good ) hes just a glorified circus clown on wheels with a radio set strapped to his head.
And I wish I could pretend that I understand cutting him but I do and I don't and I do. Because I honestly feel like C.B in the original does more than Electra lmao. But I don't think cutting people is the solution most the time tbh.
Okay onto more half asleep rambling that is likely to change because I'm still in the early stages of this rewrite. But. I recognize that C.B. has some issues. The one most of my friends point out is that he seemingly has no motive. He just... Is silly I guess. And I think this is a bit funny because I do like an antagonist with the motive of " it would be funny " , but at the same time. Kind of hard to make that character very ...er... Well I'll just say it does get a bit boring.
Something I also heard was that in the reasons C.B. has been cut was because caboose's aren't exactly used anymore, which is totally fair!
But could also totally be a motivation! Think about it, why is C.B still working? Still working with the freight despite essentially being useless? Because greaseball wants to keep him around to use him for cheating. Easy! Obviously none of this could easily be translated to the show. But for some comics/writings? Yes. Yes.
Think about it. Rusty is struggling, he feels a bit useless because steam is falling behind! So he tries to win and prove himself. But who else feels useless because of their job being replaced? C.B. but unlike rusty, C.B takes the other path, instead of trying to be a role model and win or prove himself. He just goes down the path of crime. And hey, he's probably a crazy adrenaline junky too so he's still doing it for the fun!
And why does he betray greaseball? Plenty of reasons. C.B might dislike greaseball because of poor treatment, he might dislikes greaseball for his treatment of Dinah, he probably just wants to get the adrenaline high of betraying him in the first place. Maybe to prove that he's important and needed because if he doesn't help, greaseball will lose. And he wants to hold it over him for his own personal desire of self importance. Who knows. He's a complicated little clown he is.
Ok anyway yeah I'm like the #3 Dinahboose supporter I will draw them more hehbehehehee

tagged by @landoisokay and @bsaka7 to do my 9 favorite albums (with commentary. i had a lot to say...)
these are all relatively recent because i pick and choose older songs individually more than i listen to them as a single album. like i could pick at least an album’s worth of queen songs, but they’re not all off the same album, ya feel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in no particular order!! w some explainers below the cut:
dreamland (2020) - glass animals. i almost put how to be a human being but i’ve been listening to that album basically on repeat for the last three weeks so i needed to switch it up. such an experience of an album honestly?? where how to be a human being makes me feel like the main character in an over-saturated murderous movie set in miami, dreamland is like, over-saturated fast car movie set in tokyo (the like. hollywood idea of tokyo, to be clear). forever intertwined with midnight walks through empty cities during covid, driving too fast, the first time i hung out with people after getting to come back to college, neon lights on cinderblock walls and $12 plastic handles of liquor. fundamentally bittersweet as an album imo? but so full of bangers that you forget that it’s . really sad. tokyo drifting with denzel curry was my top song of 2020 and spotify helpfully informed me that i listened to it 30 times on my 19th birthday. lol. the “get loose, streetfighter” with the street fighter sound effect… oh yeah baby that’s art. it’s all so incredibly loud also a song of all time tbh. whole album is floaty and sharp all at once, insane production, the perfect sadness layered underneath, every song building into this brilliant crescendo… perfect album for 2020 eve for like so many reasons, i could wax on about this for AGES so if u want more drop an ask no joke it’ll make my week. still holds up soooo well
lemonade (2016) - beyonce. LOL. this album dropped right around when i was getting cheated on by my gf of. over a year. and then we broke up and i signed the papers to transfer schools the next day without telling anyone. so this album fr got me through uprooting my entire life to start over. (what timing, to get cheated on right as beyonce drops her got-cheated-on album). i knew beyonce belonged on here (too influential musically to me to Not) but i was stumped on what specific album to include (i had 4 on cd in my car in high school, for example, and homecoming: the live album felt like cheating) until i remembered how much play time this one got, and how much i leaned on the album and the visuals then (which. by the way. i bought on itunes bc it wasn’t available for streaming. used precious data bc school wifi wouldn’t let me download it. possibly the last album i bought on itunes??)
save rock and roll (2013) - fall out boy. oh man. 2015 me was on one bc i was a HUGE mcr/fob/atl/p!atd/green day girl but at the Exact same time. a 1d girlie. my shuffle would literally go from mama to up all night. ANYWAYS. was stuck between american beauty/american psycho and save rock and roll, but i think american beauty/american psycho didn’t hold my attention for long and only recently came back on my radar (has some very toxic inspiration won’t lie). the mighty fall ft big sean? life changing. big fan of rappers being dropped into songs that you aren’t expecting them to feature on. “i’m either fuckin or workin so the grind don’t stop” is a work of art. young volcanoes and save rock and roll were legitimately like. the most comforting songs of all time as a sad and lonely 14 year old
when we were friends (2019) - the backseat lovers. starts out so strong and keeps it going. what an album to listen to while absurdly into someone who then starts dating your roommate lol. just like, beautiful stuff. makes me yearn. crazy good to belt out in the car while driving
cleopatra (2016) - the lumineers. feels like home, and being dumb young and in love to me. i’ve been listening to them since ho hey played on our local membership supported radio station when i was . 11?? finally got to see them two summers ago and bawled my eyes out the entire time. this whole album no skips but also like. so overwhelmingly nostalgic and infused with feelings with nowhere to go that i can’t help but want to cry. i learned how to play ophelia on a piano in a basement of a dorm i’ll never see the inside of again lol. patience makes me insane and it’s literally just piano. the lumineers in general make a lot of music that makes me ache for times and places i can’t return to, but this album is pretty peak for it
lungs (deluxe edition) (2009) - florence + the machine. god florence just does not miss does she. dog days are over another local member supported radio station hit. i started listing all the perfect songs off and then had to stop because i was listing the entire track list. floaty and romantic with a heavy edge of morbidity and violence. remember when i said i love when rappers on songs you aren’t expecting? if you listen to anything from this post PLEASE listen to you’ve got the dirtee love ft dizzee rascal from this album. a long ass album that’s good the whole way through, i’ll truly never tire of it
ctrl (2017) - sza. i think SOS might be better and eventually take this slot but i’m trying not to let recency impact this too much. drew barrymore went quintuple platinum in my bedroom in high school. it really was the perfect album for insecure 16 year old me? speaks of growth that listening to this album doesn’t hit me where i live half as much as it used to, that instead of being like damn so real sza to things like . “im sorry im so clingy i dont mean to be a lot... lonely enough to let you treat me like this” im like. damn good song
hozier (expanded edition) (2014) - hozier. take me to church another song that member supported ad-free radio station introduced me to. what a fucking album my GOD. angel of small death and the codeine scene… jackie and wilson was literally like. the love song to me. still is can’t lie. need to be saved and have hands through my hair. every single song has lines that literally make my jaw drop, i feel like i discover something new on every listen through. “free and young and we can feel none of it”… foreigner’s god makes my chest ache. i can’t fucking believe this album is ten years old???
mt joy (2018) - mt joy. another album that reminds me of home; my whole family listened to this for months on end during covid. i’m your wreck is such an opener… “and whatever happens please remember all the laughter” like i’ll cry. my instagram bio is from this song lol. the bit where it shifts into what my family calls shoulder lean mode… anyways. ASTROVAN!!! A SONG ABOUT JESUS SMOKING WEED but like. also an emotional tale of assuring mom how music’ll work out even if they’re broke the whole time. whole album gives me Feelings. this might be the happiest album on this list and it’s. not really that happy. just a very specific kind of like. optimism. we move forward even when we look back. the world fails us but we build it better. idk. like the last song is a break up song, but it’s whole thing is “so if you worry, don’t worry bout me, i always wanted you to see the california coast-line on your own time.” so like yeah, love is burning out, but don’t worry about me. i told u. Feelings.
uhhhh no pressure tagging @mecachrome @freeuselandonorris @monacotrophywife and @oscarpiastriwdc

skipper you’re too nice and kind to say this so i’m gonna say it because i’m feeling bitchy today. i know it’s comforting to imagine that yalls faves like all the same things you do and some of yall desperately want kyle to be this soft uwu guy but let’s be so for real right now. kyle would not be a fucking taylor swift fan. where are people even getting this from? he canonically listens to hip hop and new wave and has never shown any interest in girly pop music, unlike some of his friends cough cartman cough. also, most regular dudes (which kyle is) don’t like taylor swift. if we’re gonna modernize his music taste i honestly see him being more likely to listen to music like drake, childish gambino, and tame impala over taylor swift. maybe hozier if you really wanna give him a soft side. wendy, shelley, and cartman are RIGHT THERE they would be the swifties, not kyle. he’d actually be more likely to be super annoying about his music taste and act superior because he listens to the smiths than be a swiftie. i will die on this hill. ok bye im gonna go work on my 100% ACCURATE kyle playlist
aw that’s nice that you think i’m kind lol-people usually tell me i’m bitchy.
but yeah.i do agree with this. kyle isn’t a taylor fan im sorry. there’s no way he would like any of her music, county, pop, folk song, whatever. he hates her music. he would respect everything she’s done but he doesn’t get why she’s so overhyped.
as for modern music taste i say beastie boys.. (no sleep til brooklyn hits hard tb) maybe some fall out boy in there, but not the really edgy ones. i sort of agree with the hozier bit? hozier is more stan’s thing imo, but like i can see kyle liking jackie and wilson. like if hozier came on the radio he wouldn’t turn it off (unless it’s smth like like real people do, i can’t see him liking songs with that sort of beat) but he wouldn’t be actively enjoying it. he would love drake. eminem as well. maybe pop smoke. i can see him being an early kanye fan but he stopped listening to him when he started going off the deep wnd. he would like rap and hip hop and stuff.
tbh i don’t usually know how to respond to a head anon i disagree with without sounding mean or anything. i don’t wanna make people feel bad. but kyle being a taylor fan just doesn’t make sense to me.

@destourtereaux is despite everything, there is light (it's all my like,,,, soft core kpop that i listen to when i'm #overwhelmed on a monday evening and still have so much to do even though i'm so done with life itself. it's the perfect balancing act between a pick me up and a cradling hug that doesn't ask me to be okay,,, just get through <3) alternatively; we burn just like stars
@musicallisto is do you even dvicio? (because yeah <3 she's the only other girlie who understands the dvicio brainrot <3 also i heard a rumor that literally all of their love songs are written about her???? and like,,, i can confirm it's true. there's no better subject material for love songs than clara <3) alternatively; summer borne seconds? i only have 5. also; though their lips sound of things done
@amortensie is sing because you just need to sing (it's literally just musicals <3 nixie is that theatre kid out of all my mutuals and she should be immensely proud of that <3. also, there's so many different genres held within that behemoth of a playlist and nixie has multitudes and depth that we might never expect <3) alternatively; mele
@genyakosstyk is the haole boys know how to make good beats on occasion (this one is just a collection of white boy artists (hapa haole included!!!) and idk why i'm giving it to lottie, tbh. i just feel like she'd lovingly roast my occasional, misguided brainrot over objectively average white men like alec benjamin, but also let it happen and learn the lyrics to support me. it's a playlist i listen to when i want to tap into the teenage me who had a favorite backstreet boy, okay? ooooohhh... you know what? maybe this association came about because i associate lottie with &juliet... and they have a lot of white pop on that list.... yeah. i think that's it.) alternatively; six of crows radio
@bright-molina is summer borne seconds? i only have 5. (it's a 5SOS playlist. i think the association explains itself.) alternatively; stealing elias goldstein's headphones
@heliads is do i want roses? only if they sound like this. (it's a collection of music by the k-band the rose and i just,,,,,,, there's nothing more comforting in this whole wide world <3. why do i associate it with lisa? i mean,,, it's not a 1-1 association since i don't think lisa knows the rose exists, but i feel like their ~sound~ fits her vibes <3) alternatively; i am the sea or i am nothing
@oceanspray5 is heavy are the mountains; heavy the seas (this one is my like,,,, indie folk pop playlist. at least i think that's what the genre is...? the sound for of monsters and men. the oh hellos. the lumineers. idk why other than the sound fits the aesthetic of iffah's blog.) alternatively; a little parenthesis in eternity
@noesapphic is the dark of getting it (it's my secret agent au playlist. self explanatory vibes <3) alternatively; cantar
@the-radio-star is perhaps i am digging his grave (one of my oldest, most robust, and beloved playlist <3. it's arguably a lot of genres but it scratches the same itch of ~ooooooohhhh,,,, i'm dark and angsty and arguably a mess but also a bad bitch on alternating wednesdays~) alternatively; saranghae but it's a mournful yeehaw
@permanentreverie is bts mayhaps? (i think this one explains itself <3 but also!!!!!!!!!! bts changed me and so does lindsay. daily. not always for the better of society, but alas. change can never be contained to one linear direction <3) alternatively; thirteen of them but they take up seventeen places in my heart and; this world rests beneath a blood red sky
@biqherosix is tomorrow? girl, only if we're together (i don't think daniza knows txt - if you don't, this is my not so silent plea for you to give them a listen - but literally the vibes align so perfectly. she and txt get each other, they just don't know it yet. listen to 0x1=LOVESONG and tell me daniza wouldn't just,,,,, go feral to that song. also Lo$er=Lo♡er) alternatively; the haole boys know how to make good beats on occasion
@johnskeating is CELESTIAL (for obvious reasons (to her at least) that i will not disclose and neither will anyone else under threat of death <3. but also, it's a collaborative playlist with a lot of summer-adventures-with-your-best-friends vibes and that's cass <3) alternatively; all that's beyond my grasp

my ranking and review of all eurovision 2023 songs
(don't expect any intellectual deep dives, i just tried articulating my feelings the best i could but it was hard bc i'm so lukewarm on so many songs. if the reviews don't make sense it's because i wrote them before i used the esc gerbear to sort the places hhh)
37. iceland: diljá - power
it definitely is a song that is competing in eurovision this year and i've listened to it. it doesn't make me feel anything so i don't know what to say. it's a fast pop song but i'm not even vibing to it :( i just don't like it
36. switzerland: remo forrer - watergun
oh switzerland, just because sad boy gjon worked in 2021 doesn't mean you need to keep sending sad boys now... a really boring attempt at an anti-war song
35. cyprus: andrew lambrou - break a broken heart
i don't think i'm really into men singing some heartbreak songs tbh i don't like those howls in the song and the rest sorta sounds imagine dragons-ish to me, the verses at least
34. greece: victor vernicos - what they say
it's cool that he's playing bass in the music video but the song isn't making me feel much. ain't gonna really talk shit about it bc the dude's just 16, i hope he has fun at eurovision
33. italy: marco mengoni - due vite
i like to think italy is my fave eurovision country and then they send a ballad….. i actually watched sanremo (tho i haven't seen any of the nights till the end bc i'm not that strong Yet) and marco wasn't my favourite at all, i was actually surprised how crazy the audience kept going whenever he was performing. of course i can see it getting some good result because it's a classic italian ballad. just not for me
32. ireland: wild youth - we are one
we've got u2 at home/the u2 at home:…. this song has the most generic love love peace peace lyrics ever and whatever unity they are singing about i don't want to be a part of it
31. poland: jann - gladiator blanka - solo
baybeh….it's kinda crazeh… allegedly it was a big radio hit before "winning" the preselections but imma be real with you, i'd never heard it before. it's a harmless pop song without any substance and if it was selected internally i'd be like meh but all the bullshit that went down at our national final makes me mad. i hope we flop hard
30. portugal: mimicat - ai coração
something about it to me feels like early 00s eurovision and i must admit, i don't really like it. though the performance in liverpool might be quite fun
29. romania: theodor andrei - d.g.t. (off and on)
the national final performance of this song is a state of mind. to be frank i feel like the esc fandom is overhating this song, it's not That bad. am i a fan of this song? no. would i like it to see it in the final with the same staging just for laughs? yes
28. israel: noa kirel - unicorn
israel i'm so sorry 0 points……. this song is a disjointed mess to my ears, i think it would've been better if they stuck to just one of the styles they used in this song. all the mentions of unicorns in this song make me cringe. not to mention the "you wanna see me dance?" bit which um, also makes me cringe. no problem with a dance break but why did she have to announce it like that out of nowhere. my favourite part of the song is probably the "u-ni-corn" chant at the very end but other than that eh. this song was written to make the staging crazy and exciting but as a song it doesn't work for me
27. azerbaijan: turalturanx - tell me more
brave of azerbaijan to send two dudes with their song that sound like it teleported itself from an early 00s shitty british movie. that rap part sounds like it's from a corporate song targeted at a young audience to idk make them stop smoking asdfadsf there's something endearing about this song tho
26. uk: mae muller - i wrote a song
i recognize that it's a step in the right direction for the uk and it's a rather fun song but tbh i just don't connect with it. i really liked sam last year and sadly in comparison mae's song seems quite weak to me. though i hope that the (de facto) host country curse doesn't work on the uk this year tho and they don't end up on the very end of the board
25. the netherlands: mia nicolai & dion cooper - burning daylight
ngl i forgot about this song after the first listen. i don't even know what to say about it really, it's just really underwhelming to me. i think i don't actively hate it but i also don't really like it
24. georgia: iru - echo
english grammar rules have left the chat. i'm baffled by the lyrics. but the song overall (along with the video) feels like something from outer space or the future. not in a crazy way tho. i think it has some potential
23. denmark: reiley - breaking my heart
bts are on hiatus so it's his time to shine. no but seriously, there's something so kpopy about this song? i defo like it more than the other "breaking heart" song this year but still. the dude gives me some uncanny valley feeling, especially considering he allegedly pretends to be 5 years younger than he actually is? i love eurovision drama
22. estonia: alika - bridges
we have very few true ballads this year but i think this one's ok!! not a ballad girl myself but i don't mind this one, i like her voice. gives me adele bond theme vibes. i've seen people say alika isn't really selling this song but i saw her national final performance and it seemed fine to me? not much you can really do when you're singing a ballad tbh
21. armenia: brunette - future lover
imma be real with you, i laughed out loud when i first listened to this song because of the lyrics. but i think the song is kinda nice anyway? not a fave but it's nice enough
20. malta: the busker - dance (our own party)
they got sax and in theory i should like it. but i'm not a fan. the whole "ooh i wanna stay at home in my sweater" shtick doesn't work for me. i can see why some people are vibing to this song but it's not doing it for me
19. sweden: loreen - tattoo
i'm a noted hater of sweden at eurovision so don't expect me to say anything nice hhhh the song is rather fine and loreen is fantastic but at the same time i feel like the entire song is just one idea repeated over and over without any sort of variation. her staging at melfest seems quite interesting but overall i don't think this has a potential to win? especially if the people watching in may remember euphoria. tattoo pales in comparison
18. san marino: piqued jacks - like an animal
hear me out………i don't hate this song. yes maybe it's cringe but somehow it keeps getting stuck in my head because it's catchy asdfasdfadsf i'm waiting for the studio version bc it's hard to properly judge it based on the shit sound mix at san marino nf
17. ukraine: tvorchi - heart of steel
was kinda surprised watching vidbir when this won! but then again ukraine keeps giving us different things constantly. i quite like this song but it's also too lowkey for me, nothing to go crazy about. still, it's a vibe
16. norway: alessandra - queen of the kings
ngl when i first heard the song i couldn't understand why people like it so much. now i enjoy it more but i wouldn't say it's a fave of mine? i can see it getting a good result though, there's something very eurovision about it
15. serbia: luke black - samo mi se spava
i feel like technically i should like this song but i….don't. i think the music itself is quite fun but…..the performance makes it seem like it was written for the netflix eurovision movie. something about this guy's voice bothers me. the nail to the coffin for me is the fact that the title of this song sounds close to "samo mi się spawa" in polish which means "it welds on its own for me" instead of "i just wanna sleep" which is what the title actually means 💀 i can't shake this association off and it doesn't help me like this song more
14. slovenia: joker out - carpe diem
at first i wasn't impressed but overall i think it's quite a fun indie/pop rock song!! and it's always nice to hear a native language instead of english
13. lithuania: monika lynkytė - stay
it's a pleasant song and the lithuanian bit is my fave part of the song. overall i don't mind it, but also i'm not crazy about it. sort of disappointed because i really loved sentimentai last year :(
12. belgium: gustaph - because of you
i haven't watched the belgian nf so i don't know what the other options were (that people are so mad about not winning) but i quite like this one!!! it's a bop, makes me wanna dance. i hope gustaph brings some voguing to liverpool
11. moldova: pasha parfeni - soarele şi luna
the only true folk influenced song we have this year, i like it!! it's a banger, it has some sort of flute going on, from what i've seen the lyrics refer to a folk legend? we love it
10. australia: voyager - promise
banger!! pleasantly surprised because i don't think i've ever really really liked any of australia's entries in the past. thought the random high note in the second verse is quite funny to me tbh asdasdfds
9. croatia: let 3 - mama ŠČ!
i think it's more of a whole package where the song doesn't really make full sense without the performance but in some strange way i enjoy the song anyway. the lyrics also are quite understandable in polish which probably also makes it easier for me (and i imagine other slavic people as well) to understand the message without feeling confused about what's going on
8. albania: albina & familja kelmendi - duje
the drama?? i love it. i saw somebody say it feels like a turkish telenovela and they've got a point. it makes me feel something (unlike some other entries) and i appreciate it. plus the instrumental absolutely fucks
7. spain: blanca paloma - eaea
when i first heard the song i didn't understand it at all. i feel like i still don't fully Get it but there's something so fascinating about it to me that i can't stop thinking about it. i'm so confused? but i think it means i enjoy it. definitely something i like more than slomo last year
6. germany: lord of the lost - blood & glitter
yell heah!! germany finally sending something worthwhile. i keep listening to this song on loop, i wanna twerk to it. love the combo of metal AND glitter <3
5. france: la zarra - évidemment
i already liked it at first listen and it keeps growing on me! not a big fan of chanson type of songs but this one is a banger + her look in the music video is gorgeous, i hope she keeps it for liverpool
4. czechia: vesna - my sister's crown
liked it before it was chosen at czechia's national final and was happy when they won but i kinda got bored of it after a month or so? i still think it's a good song (even tho i know people have some issues with it) and i love the mix of three different slavic languages. i think with the right staging they can win me back
3. latvia: sudden lights - aijā
OK OK… when i first heard it i was like ok. but then one evening i randomly found myself watching the moldovan nf and they were guests there and when they played their song in this shitty studio i was like omg it's actually really good?? obsessed with the lullaby bit at the end. i hope to god they qualify, they need to bring justice to latvia after citi zeni's nq last year
2. austria: teya & salena - who the hell is edgar?
what a surprise?? adored it at first listen. it both manages to be a bop while also trying to say something. i loved in corpore sano last year, i love who the hell is edgar this year
1. finland: käärijä - cha cha cha
what can i say......i usually don't really listen to any of the national final songs and just wait for the winner of each one but the thumbnail for cha cha cha music video on yt intrigued me so i watched it. and immediately i wanted käärijä to win eurovision weeks before he even won the finnish nf. the song is sooo addictive and his entire look/performance is hypnotizing. i know he's a favourite to win rn but if he somehow flops in may i'm gonna be really really sad. come on, it's crazy it's party. i think this finnish win would be a really fitting addition to lordi's win in 2006

---
February, 2004.
“Are you at Old Trafford yet?”
“Still in the car, we’re not due out on pitch for warm-up for another hour still.”
On the other side of the car’s back seat, Scholesy is sat slumped against the window, staring out with a bored expression. There’s no music playing – they can never agree on what radio station to tune to, and Gary spends most drives to matches on the phone with Becks anyway. He feels a bit guilty, though, ignoring him the whole drive, even if they have spent all morning together.
“Tell me when you get there, yeah?”
“Becks, I swear, you’re worse than my dad. I’ve only been doin’ this ten years, haven’t I? I’ll give the finger to one of the cameras just for you, how’s that sound?”
Next to him, Scholesy groans.
“Don’t, Gaz,” he says, “you’ll get fined.”
At the same time, down the phone Becks is saying “not sure that’s worth the fine, babe.”
“The two ‘a yous are always ganging up on me, it’s not fair.”
“Tell Scholesy I’m giving him a big wet kiss next time I see him.”
“I’m not tellin’ him that.”
“Is he threatenin’ to kiss me again? Tell him I’ll drop out of England squad next week if he does that.”
“Scholesy says he can’t wait to give you a nice big snog when we get to London on Monday.”
David laughs, pretty and perfect and it makes Gary’s chest ache just hearing it, makes him wish they could just skip the stupid match and get to Monday already.
“Good luck today, Gaz,” he says warmly, “you’ll smash ‘em, I know you will. I love you.”
Gary pulls a face at that, aware that Scholesy is watching him, that he can see his blush creeping up and know exactly what David’s saying to him. These things have always seemed to come so easily to David, it’s baffling. The first time he’d told Gary he loved him, a million years ago, Gary had blinked and said ‘do you fuck’, then spent the next ten minutes scrambling to assure him that he knows, that he knows, that there’s been no lack of affection on David’s part to make him doubt it. That he loves him too.
“Yeah,” he says now, darting his eyes towards Scholesy who looks away, pretends not to be listening. He clears his throat. “You too.”
*
When they walk into Old Trafford, the receptionist at the staff entrance calls for him to wait a second before going through to the dressing room. In the blink of an eye, Gary finds his arms being loaded up with chocolates, and roses, and a stupid little teddy bear with the Manchester United crest on it.
He shuffles into the dressing room awkwardly, struggling to see around the giant bouquet, and just as he’d expected (dreaded) he’s met with teasing cheers and wolf-whistles when he walks in and drops them into his locker.
He snaps his phone open and texts David ‘you are horrible <3’, before looking around the room with a glare and saying “not a fucking word”.
“Look at you, Nev,” Butty says with a grin, because he never just keeps his mouth shut. “You’re more popular than Giggsy, who’d’ve thought?”
Giggsy raises an eyebrow. “Is he fuck, those are obviously just long-distance guilt gifts. I’m the one who actually has a chance of getting laid tonight.”
Gary looks down at the floor, scratches at his head awkwardly. “I think he jus’ doesn’t want me feelin’ bad that we can’t do any of the Valentines nonsense this year.”
He swear he sees Roy lean towards John and mutter “he’s feeling guilty about something, that’s for sure”. But what would that even mean?
*
He should be focused on the game. He’s always focused on the game. Single-minded, that’s him.
Today, though, he can’t stop thinking about what Roy had said, about the concerned look he’d given Becks’ stupid flowers.
Surely, surely he hadn’t meant –
Because why would he even think that?
There’s still a game to win, though, and Gary does try to get on with it. Except that when he dives (yes, he dives, he’s in the penalty box – of course he dives, anyone would) and the City players start yelling at him, he feels everything bubbling up inside him and oh god, the Boss is going to kill him.
He storms back to the dressing room and is tugging off his shirt to go shower when his phone starts ringing, because of course it does. Because, if he was thinking clearly, he’d’ve been worried if it didn’t.
“I was provoked, Becks,” he says when he picks it up, skipping the greeting.
“You silly cow,” Becks replies softly, like he’s not disappointed. Like Gary’s not just put the cup at risk. “No you weren’t. What’d you go and do that for?”
“He –”
“Gaz, that’s a three match suspension.”
Gary’s been a professional footballer for ten years now, he knows perfectly well that he’s going to get a three match suspension, so he’s not sure why Becks feels the need to remind him of it. It’s not the sort of thing he’d rub in his face, when he knows that Gary’ll be getting the hairdryer treatment any minute now. When he knows it’ll mean –
Oh, god.
International break starts on Monday.
“Becks,” he says desperately, apologetically. “Becks, I forgot – I weren’t thinkin’, I’m sorry. I’m sorry, it doesn’t have to mean – I can still come down, with the lads. I know I can’t train, but – but I can still come. We can still –”
“Gaz.” David sighs. “D’you really think the Boss would let you do that?”
Fuck.
*
“Boss,” he says, voice wobbly, “Boss, please. Double my fine, or – or bench me, but please. Just one day, not even that – half a day, and I’d be back for the next morning’s training.”
It feels a similar situation to the one he’d been in last summer, stood alone in front of Sir Alex’s desk with tears streaming down his face and a snotty nose, begging please, Boss, you know how stubborn he can be. He is sorry, it’s been eatin’ him up, he just doesn’t want to look stupid if he apologises and you sell ‘im anyway. You know how much he respects you. This is all he’s ever wanted. Boss, please.
“Gary,” the Boss says slowly, “actions must have consequences.”
I don’t – I can’t do this without him, I’m not good enough. You know I’m not good enough. I’ll do anything. Please, Boss, please.
He remembers the way Sir Alex had looked at him over his glasses, that long calculating stare of his. You assured me this… attachment of yours wouldn’t get in the way of your game.
“Okay,” he says now with a grim nod. “You’re right.” His voice cracks as he talks, so he blinks a few times and repeats “you’re right, I know. I jeopardised the match. I’m sorry.”
Sir Alex nods, and looks down at the papers on his desk, starts shuffling through them. This, Gary knows, is his cue to leave. They’re done here.
I know you don’t owe me anything, but it’s – it’s not just for me. It’s the team, we need him. He’s special, don’t – I know it’s been difficult between you two, but can’t you fix it? If anyone can fix it, surely you –
– You only get this one favour, Gary. Do you understand?
I’ll do anything, just – please. Please don’t sell him.
A one season loan. It’s an excellent opportunity, the chance to experience a new league, a new style of play. Gives our less senior players a chance to earn more minutes. Then he’ll come back, and we’ll all be stronger for it.
And you promise he’ll come back?
I promise he will be given the option. That’s my only offer, lad, not many people could get away with asking this of me.

the fame monster (2009) - my commentary edition
this is so fun, we started doing album commentary with a mutual!! anyone who wants in can join and add their thoughts too <3
BAD ROMANCE - THEEEE SONG OF ALL TIME TBH. excuse me i will literally write an essay on this. first of all: this changed the trajectory of pop music at that time. it really did. i dont want any further comments on this.
second of all, i knowww this is probably the most popular gaga song and everyone has heard it so many times in their lives (especially on the radio in early 2010s lol) BUT! i want everyone to hear it again and again and again. because they just dont make songs like this anymore!!! the production valueeeee are u hearing this????? the vocals??? the lyrics??? the POWER absolute power of this song. oh my god.
also, rah rah bitch. gaga ooh lala even.
last of all, when she said i dont wanna be friends french and THEN started speaking french??? 😭☝ i FEEL that lady gaga
ALEJANDRO - okay this CHANGED ME as a person. im not even kidding. i watched the music video, i was like 10, and it awakened something in me.
this song was also such a hit, and to be honest, it is simply insane to me that we were listening to this on the radio. like?? are u hearing this BEAT??? with that intro?? the hook???? that buildup??? please. this is pop perfection right here.
DONT CALL MY NAME ROBERTO 😔
MONSTER - i love this one so much. that boy is a monster mo mo monster, so fucking true! one thing i really like about a lot of her music is that the songs are jams and sound really fun, but then when u listen to the lyrics, it gets really really sad. this is a good example of this. she does that a lot starting from this album especially
also that little just dance reference hehe queen of intertextuality and self referentiality (i will say this every time she references her own songs and she does that A LOT i realized lol)
SPEECHLESS - the best gaga ballad!!! TO ME!! it's soooo good. her voice is so captivating (vocal queen always foreverrrr). the lyrics are so 😭😭 the production and instrumentals!! pleaseeee
side note: interesting how her trash father inspired so many of her best works 🤔 when i listen to this song i lose myself in it every time and then i think: QUEEN how could u possibly write this about your dad and how it can be soooo good???
DANCE IN THE DARK - one of her most underrated songs!!! definitely!!! THAT BRIDGE!!!!! marilyn, judy, sylvia tell em how you feel girls 🗣🗣🗣
i love this one so much. sooo much. how do the kids say nowadays, she is really mothering in this one, okay?
ooh and did u know that there is a rina sawayama cover of this song?? i love that as well.
TELEPHONE - oh my godddd the way i would try to do the dance of this but never could 😭 it was too much for little me...
okay this one is absolutely ICONIQUE as one would say. the music video??? that's poetic cinema. they left us with "to be continued" for over a decade now lmao 😭 i wish we could see them together again pleaseeee
what can i say, it's a hit!! another song that no one could escape from in early 2010s lol she's quite the hit-maker isnt she :)
SO HAPPY I COULD DIE - what a layered song. first of all, the lyricism of this song (this album in general tbh) really transcends. the way this can be sexual, or it can be about addiction at the same time. i really dont have the brain power to write abt it in depth but i just love the lyrics of this one sooo much
"i am as vain as i allow" this is so gaga.
TEETH - 😳😳😳 okay... this one is one of her hottest songs imo what does it say abt me lmao
i LOVE this like that beat... and it has such a musical theater vibe to it, it's so so good. has some really fun vocal moments too <3 really what a closer to this incredible album!!
(BONUS SONG) RETRO, DANCE, FREAK -
okay this one is a bonus song (technically for "The Fame" album, but released with the international deluxe edition of "The Fame Monster". so im putting it here as a bonus song lol)
this one is soooo fun for me. i wish this was in the original tracklist of The Fame instead of Disco Heaven tbh. it's fun, it fits the energy and vibe of the album so well. it would be a better closer imo :<
general comments - this album is POP PERFECTION in the literal sense im not even kidding. it's her shortest, but probably the most impactful work.
in terms of production, it has such a CLARITY that is really hard to see in many albums. the art direction and music meets the production perfectly. The Fame is an iconic album, sure. but The Fame Monster really takes a huge step ahead from that if you ask me. which says a LOT about the quality of this album
i want to say, the lyrics in this album is probably my favorite from her works. it just!!!! so good, so powerful!!! the dark side of fame may seem like an overdone concept, but she does it so well here
i would say this is her best album if i didnt know what will come later in her career lmao. it's just so good, so clean, so inspirational, i would just think "okay how will she top this cmon now"... but she does she really does that's really impressive on its own
ranking for now: the fame monster >> the fame
(the ranking may get Messy in the next album commentaries lmao but im just trying 🤷‍♂️)

Re: fall out boy question
YES! I feel mostly the same way tbh! The main way I rank my favourite to least favourite is which songs end up most in the top 10 but then I also put a lot of weight on the sentimental value of it, part of the reason why I quite often rank new fall out over their older stuff is not because it’s better music but because I have so many memories associated with the newer albums as I listened to them (save rock and roll, American Beauty American psycho and Mania) religiously throughout highschool and they got me through a hell of a lot of teenage angst. But it’s amazing how well it actually stands up to scrutiny versus like Twenty One Pilots who I also listened to during my angst phase and although Vessel is a good album it doesn’t even hold a candle to something like Save Rock and Roll.
It’s only recently that I’ve actually started to listen and enjoy a lot of the older stuff because my music taste has shifted slightly (not majorly) but I definitely slept on Take This to Your Grave and even to some extent Infinity on High and Folie (heinous I know) and they’re just chefs kiss.
All the albums have their own merits and my rankings are so fucking messy cuz they’re more based on my feelings than the music itself. Basically my ranking if it was based on sentimental value would be totally different to ranking based on which has the “best” music (even though I stand by the fact they’ve never released a bad song let alone a bad album *cough* panic at the disco with Viva Las Vengeance *cough*)
related to this
Oh, nice! I can see that. And, yeah, I feel you--Fall Out Boy has a lot of sentimental meaning to me, too. I dealt with a shit ton of mental health problems growing up (ans I still deal with them), and their music definitely helped me through all that as well as through the regular, non-disordered teenage angst, lmao. Though, I will forever have a soft spot for SRAR because that was my introductory album to FOB. I was too young to have heard their pre-haitus stuff as it came out. I've since gone back and fallen in love with all the older stuff and a fuck ton of their solo projects, but, yeah, the stuff I was there for on the ground floor has some extra memories.
Also, my own high school memory of them is that I decided I didn't give a fuck about if other people found it cringy or not, I just had to do it... I had a FOB lyric as my senior quote, "you are what you love, not who loves you," from SRAR.
I also listened to a lot of TØP and P!ATD, but I never got fully into them the way I did with FOB (and, to some extent, MCR).
I'm glad you've gone back and listened! I love, love, love the old stuff. I personally have a music taste that's ALL OVER THE PLACE, and I feel like FOB gets most of the credit for it. They introduced from a whole new world away from radio pop, country hits, or classic rock. It's not just that their albums sound different, but because I got so into FOB and they all talk about their different musical backgrounds over the years, I began to consume all these different genres. Treating it like music recommendations. And I especially started listening to hardcore since that's where their roots lie. I fell in love. Hardcore, rock, metal, punk, etc. All the little sub genres of each, too. Nu metal, black metal, heavy metal, metalcore, etc., etc. I love it.
That's fair, though, rankings are often messy and all over the place anyway. Everyone has their own ears and opinions.
(I bought Viva Las Vengeance on CD before I listened and... I was pretty disappointed. I think it's good pop, and I don't mind pop music. Not at all! It's just not what I was expecting from Panic! Even as a follow-up to Pray For The Wicked, which was pretty pop-ish, too. Although, I must admit that the theory that the song "Local God" is a letter to Ryan Ross makes me actually love that song, lol.)
Thanks for giving me an excuse to rant about music, lmao.

Jo!!
Quick question, do you have a favorite genre of music? You know Pop, Country, Rock, etc....
I used to listen to country as a kid, cause you know the parents had control of the radio lol, but now I don't listen to country, I really only have a select few country artists I like and none of them make music anymore lol, my go tos are Rascal Flatts, and Shania Twain ("Up" is my favorite song of hers lol)! I am more of a punk-rock, or alternative fan (FOB being my favorite, I've seen them 3 times now and I wanna see them again! The hella mega tour was so much fun!!) But any way I ask all this because I was just at the store a few hours ago and over the speakers a song I haven't heard in literal years maybe 10 to 15 years, came on, it being Somebody like you by Keith Urban, and it sent me back to childhood, do you have a song that can send you back to your childhood?
Sorry to ask you that here, should I ask these kind of questions on your Bakugous forehead page, since it's not necessarily a fandom kind of question? I mean I can turn it around by making it sound like I asked what would Bakugous childhood song be? Actually I wanna ask that too, what would his song be? I don't know what all people in Japan listen to especially back when he was young!
Anywho, Hope your night/day or whenever you see this, is going fantastic!!! ☺️😁
Hihihi my lovely!
Omg I like music questions! My fave fave genre is pop-punk!! But I literally love so many different genres of music and have so many diff fave bands. I’m such a huge Johnny Cash fan so I have soft spot for country music🥺
I love when those sorts of things happen and it’s like you’re teleported back in time?! I felt like that a lot when I started listening to Blink again recently when they release the new song and I went back and listened to their old albums😂
HELLA MEGA TOUR WAS SOOOO GOOD!! Green Day are one of my fave bands so seeing them with FOB was incredible😭
Omg I would love if he listened to the same bands as me, but tbh I headcanon that he likes a lot of heavy metal or death metal. But he’ll call all your favourite band his guilty pleasures because he’ll listen to them (especially the love songs!) too.
I think it was Marq (maybe??) who said Bakugou would find the playlists you’re listening to lately and he’ll add the most popular songs to his own playlist so he can hear what you’re listening to and he ends up liking a lot of the songs because he just imagines you singing and dancing to them??? I love love LOVE this headcanon so much.

1, 31, and 44?
1: who are your comfort characters? well I guess my comfort characters would be the characters from the bits of media I find comfort in the most. so that would be five/adric/tegan/nyssa/turlough, skyward sword's link, and I know this sounds childish but I have to include stepney the bluebell engine from the railway series book of the same name. just because it's been like. twenty years of me going '!!' over him
31: what type of music keeps you grounded? hold on I'll just. link two incomplete spotify playlists of the cassettes my dad made for me when I was eight. embarrassment about some of the stuff I grew up listening to aside, these won't ever be finished because some of the songs I have yet to identify or aren't anywhere to be found aside from one singular shit quality youtube upload.
1 (A: beatles 1962-1966, B: miscellaneous 1950s-1980s)
2 (A: miscellaneous 1950s-1960s, radio ads, B: miscellaneous 1950s-1960s)
44: you get a free pass to kill anyone, who is it? tricky to choose just one, tbh. mostly because the people I'd think to kill I would rather see tortured/getting tastes of their own medicine for their actions. y'know it's a bit of a copout imo but el*n m*sk by giving him an explosive collar like in that one bank heist
anyway!! thank you for asking!! these definitely made me stop and think and that's good lmao

I find it,,,,, interesting in a disappointing way but entirely predictable that hes branding this new album as a "classic parx album!!!1!!1!" When this honestly sounds nothing like parx at all imo. Like even new, crappier parx has a specific sound/vibe to it where i can immediately recognize that its parx but this new clip honestly sounds like it could have been cooked up in a windowless board room for mgk (🤮) or new avril or m*d sun or one of the tiktok boybot "musicians"........ Like if it came on w/o me knowing who it was id probably recognize his voice after a while hut there would be quite a but of hesitation.
And im wondering, does he really get that virality (especially of the tiktok variety) just,,, doesn't last?? For the vast majority of people at least. Like even if you go viral in a huge way (not something thats going to happen for parx tbh) you're the hot new thing for a few weeks at most and then the internet moves on, thats just how it works. And the ones who really DO get their "careers launched!!!" or otherwise boosted off of internet fame are always the ones w large expensive support systems already in place. im talking like olivia rodrigo whos a disney child star, mgk or willow who have been established artists for a while, jaden w an x or whoever who was already rich and viral before he started "making music" and immediately got picked up by travis barker. Like sure there are regular ppl musicians that got big from tiktok like penelope scott or mxmtoon but they're not nearly as big as the other ones.
So like,,,, even if that somehow did happen for parx it really wouldn't be a huge win!!! You get dedicated fans who show up to concerts by actually WRITING GOOD MUSIC, not sound bites. Sorry for the essay, ik its all been saud before im just long winded and frustrated lol
YEAHHHH YEP you make a lot of great points here and i agree w you LOL. i dont hate the music for this song or anything but it definitely also reads to me as that same “made in a lab” pop punk theyre churning our now for radio. its interesting because that new pop punk and the pop punk of the 00s (and pre-2018 10s) actually sounds super different. this new stuff is way more polished and synthy and electronic and THATS what this parx song sounds like. again i dont hate it and it could be catchy and ill wait to judge it when its fully out but thats the vibe i get
and thats the thing: he DOESNT seem to get that!!!!! hes staking HIS WHOLE CAREER his fate and the fates of his friends and bandmates on landing a viral tiktok hit WHICH MIGHT I REMIND THE AUDIENCE HE ALREADY FAILED TO DO WITH ONE ALBUM and not only is it not guaranteed its gonna get him nowhere near what he thinks. he thinks hes gonna get a viral tiktok audio and be lil nas x. no dude. songs on tiktok go viral all the time and only last a couple weeks. they go viral and their creators/artists dont get lasting recognition AT ALL. sure itll drive your streaming numbers up for a while!!! but those ppl are not sticking around after the hype wears off. ESPECIALLY if all your recent catalogue is bland empty cardboard lyrics you clearly designed for tiktok virality. why the hell would they want to stick around for that???? being lucky enough to score a viral tiktok song is not about to make you the next doja cat. and you literally have not even managed to go viral yet. stop basing your ENTIRE artistry and direction around this idea!!!!!!!!!!

Finally High as hope. It's not my favourite I have to say. I remember being underwhelmed by sky full of song but I eventually warmed to it. She had always threatened to 'strip things back' since before ceremonials and here she really meant it. She also took a bigger role in production and Isabella didn't contribute at all. I haven't returned to this album very often, aside from big god.
June is a slow opener. Iirc this is a reaction to the pulse shooting so it's an important song for many people. Right away you can see the difference in song writing, this is a real event in a named place. It's quite sad, despite the feeling of hope at the end. This is a bit flat but it was much better live. The tone for this album is set right away. 7/10
Hunger is the only real commercial song. And it opens up with an extremely personal line about an eating disorder so even the radio friendly track shows the different direction this album is taking. It was originally a poem and it feels like one at parts. Biblical references here. It's a rallying anthem, but doesn't have the same hook as her previous singles. The video is an odd one about a statue and some dancing from Flo. I thought it was setting up another visual album epic but it's standalone. Music wise, this isn't anything she hasn't done better before. 6/10
South London forever. A nostalgic take on here home town and also about her worries for the future, both personal and for society in general. The lyrics are nice, aside from 'green is so green' which stands out for being a bloody awful line imo. The brass is here, but it's subtle. As are the drums. This songs feels a bit rushed to me as well. That all said I like this one, it clicked faster than most songs on this album for me. 7/10
Big god is the standout track on this album for me. It's one of the more metaphor heavy songs about an ignored text, the water references are back It reminds me of a more organic remain nameless, sinister and empty. The strings here are actually a sample from another track I just realised. It's a new sound for Florence but it's still very much her. You can sense that this is by someone who is quite pissed off, croaky and growling before taking off. There is a saxophone here but honestly I only found that out recently, it's hard to hear. And that is an issue I have throughout this album. The video for this track is brilliant, couldn't have been better. 9/10
Sky full of song was not grabbing me at first. It's nice, and her vocals are perfect throughout and it's about her lifestyle taking it's toll, again we're getting personal. Music wise, there's not much going on here at all, backing vocals make more of an impact then the instruments. The video was shite tbh. Not too much to say really, there will be plenty more subtle songs like this to come 4/10.
Now Grace is a song I didn't like at all at first. I don't like the opening piano, sounds unpleasant to my ears. This an extremely personal, apology song. It's the song that feels most like a poem to me and that's probably why it seems like it's sung awkwardly. Again, music wise this is sparse and there isn't much to go on, some of it is nearly just silence. Even the brass at the end doesn't add much. This was a skip for me and it still is frankly. I understand the significance of it, but there's just nothing interesting to me here. 2/10.
I had a feeling this was about Patti Smith before she confirmed it. We're both fans and her influence on Florence's writing style is very clear on this album as a whole. There is more going on in this song thankfully. The genuine angry part about toxic masculinity in the middle is interesting, but it still feels awkwardly plonked in this tribute song to another artist. The last part of the song takes off and feels light and hopeful. The harp is back here, and the end reminds me off how big how blue how beautiful ending but more low-key. This song was wonderful live and this album version sounds quite flat to me now. It's still one of the best songs on this album. I recommend the acoustic version9/10.
I think 100 years is about suffragettes, but I can't remember where I heard that. Now this song had my hyped after seeing it debuted live. And it was a real let down hearing this demo-ish album version. I'm not sure if the demo effect is intentional or not but I don't like it. Anyway this song is the most classically Florence song on the album, stomping and handclaps that head towards a big finish. This is one of her louder moments, but it's still tame enough, despite the anger of this song. This was one of the songs I liked more when it was released but I don't like it so much now. It adds some much needed energy to this slow album, but like hunger,it's nothing she hasn't done better before. I'm a bit surprised myself at how little I like this one after listening to all the other albums. I guess at the release I was desperate for that classic Florence sound so I overrated this a bit 5/10
The end of love is one on this album a lot of people seem to really enjoy. Another piano led, slow sparse ballad. A very personal song, including references to suicide of her grandmother. Water and biblical references again, with named locations and text messages. Fantasy meets reality, with meta nods to the songwriting process. It picks up very slightly towards the end, but the this is mostly a quiet affair. And at this point in the album, I've had enough. But in it's own right, this song is nice and well written. 7/10
I didn't know what to make of no choir at first. Again, it's very meta but her lyrics here are beautiful and it's an cool insight into her work, a bit of fun at her own expense.. The part of loneliness never leaving' sticks in the mind. The acapella start is a nice touch. It's a strange mix of happy and sad and again this one feels more like a poem. It's a fitting way to end this very personal and restrained album. 8/10
Moderation is a banger, I suspect this was hbhbhb or ceremonials. It was so nice to get this after all the slow songs. Kind of funny releasing this after such a restrained album, maybe it was intentional 'do I look moderate to you?. I saw this live and it was great. It's like a much better version of lover to lover, and this feels very Florence. Reminds me of bedroom hymns too. Her religious references are back and she sounds angry, I love angry Florence. 9/10
Haunted house is another slow track but I like this one quite a bit. Piano led again and this track feels like it's in an empty space It's sung a bit higher than she usually does, I like it. It's a nice little b-side, cute spooky metaphor and the end chant is cool. 6/10
Light of love is the covid track. I guess she dug through the hah rejects for something upbeat and inspiring. It's a pleasant song, we're all in this together and we must face what's coming and all that. I find this track a bit strange, like is that a bunch of kids singing? Sounds like it. It's a little bit sickly sweet but I like the little march at the end. 6/10
Jenny of oldstone, a nice lullaby. I've never seen game of thrones, maybe this is very fitting. It's fine, short and sweet 7/10
The problem with an album this short, is that any lackluster songs will stand out more. This feels more like a Florence Welch album, rather than FATM. The focus here is very much on what she wants to say, instead of creating an album around an intended atmosphere or sound. Dance fever does the same, but she is better at saying her piece on that album while also making great tunes. I know it was something she felt she had to make. It gave a lot of insight into her personal struggles and anxieties. Her songwriting is far more mature here, and I enjoy of it. This is a new direction for her and it is mostly very good. And it's a big fuck you to critics who said she was incapable of quiet reflection (despite yknow, already doing that on hbhbhb)
But I am just not a huge fan of slow ballads, no matter how beautifully they are written or sung, and that's what this album mainly consists of. And it feels longer than it is because so many of these songs progress the same way, a bit of piano, some backing vocals, some subtle strings or brass as it moves along, picking up a little volume and intensity towards the end. Rinse repeat. And listening to the album as a whole, I was fed up of this by the time I reached grace. Actually the same problem I had with ceremonials, where the big giant songs got tiring after awhile. I understand cohesion when creating an album, but this was too much.
I know a lot of people hold this album dear. And also know some people who wanted to see Florence try something like this, and don't care for the big hits or songs about werewolves. I definitely noticed in some forums that people who didn't like much of her other work warmed to this one.
But for me, it remains her weakest. And I think I forced myself to like it more than I did because I was is starved for new material. It has it's moments, big god is wonderful. And the live performance of these songs was mostly great. Nothing is really terrible, aside from some of the production nor is it a complete snoozefest. Not great, not terrible.

Saw some cringe comments on a post on the indie sleaze Instagram account that pissed me off and I didn’t wanna start an argument so I thought I might as well ramble about it here. The music considered to be under this umbrella was some of the first music I remember forming core memories to as a child, so I feel as though I have a right to speak.
The post in question was asking the followers what artists of the present day give off the indie sleaze vibe and sure I don’t think musically or aesthetic wise a lot of the suggestions were quite there, (I think it’s a bit early before we see electroclash, bloghouse and the 2000s garage rock sound coming back - but I think it’s just around the corner tbh) there was this one reactionary asshole just replying to everyone with innocent suggestions of new artists saying they’re not indie sleaze because they’re “woke and PC and demonising heterosexuality and have blue hair pronouns and trauma”. Especially if the artists being suggested were LITERALLY just existing as LGBT+/queer. Like… even if there was nothing about politics in the music, and they were just existing as themselves.
And it got me thinking about how this person was so wrong… and that they’re literally rewriting history to try and suit their own narrative, and tbh it was bordering on saying “this artist is not indie sleaze because they’re openly a minority and are sometimes making music about it.”
When it comes to the “anti identity politics” bullshit this person stated in their revisionist history, it seems they must’ve forgotten that while the indie sleaze subculture wasn’t as a WHOLE inherently preaching social justice, it was still in fact a very friendly space for LGBT+ people and feminist artists who were very open about both those things. Probably more so than other subcultures in the 2000s. This was especially prominent in the electroclash subgenre which had a lot of their artists intersecting with the riot grrrl and queercore scenes. Like… did this person just forget that Lesbians On Ecstacy, Gravy Train, Chicks On Speed, CSS, Gossip and fucking PEACHES existed???? (This entire list of artists btw is a big fraction of my yassification playlist???) (Also DON’T GET ME STARTED on how many bloghouse artists either ended up making hyperpop music later in their career or ended up working with hyperpop artists… and we all know how gay AND trans positive that genre inherently is)
This era also def made some progress when it came to artists of colour too. Indie scenes in the past definitely lacked POC, especially in popular bands - but while indie sleaze was still mainly white dominated some POC artists definitely managed to get some spotlight which hadn’t really been seen in indie music before. You had Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Natasha Khan (Bats For Lashes), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party) (AND HE’S GAY TOO), Santigold, M.I.A, Tahita Bulmer (New Young Pony Club), 3/4 of the members of TV On The Radio were black men. I feel like there would probably be less POC making any kind of indie bops now if it weren’t for these talented people laying the foundation.
So yeah, basically to end my pointless infodump - indie sleaze - while I can criticise elements of it as I can with most 2000s subcultures, (the 2000s and it’s idea of everything being apolitical, egalitarian, and post identity politics to an extent did rub off on all the media and as such I can acknowledge that general attitude ageing weirdly now in the wake of a lot of us realising our core social issues never went away) is actually a lot more progressive than people remembered it to be. Especially in terms of its inclusivity of minorities which this person seems to think just didn’t exist openly and proudly in its past. If there’s a comeback and more minorities make music in any style under the indie sleaze umbrella (electroclash, bloghouse, 00s style garage rock), it’ll won’t be all too different from how it was because it’s the same music, same messy grimy aesthetic with smudged eyeliner and American Apparel disco pants - just more diversity and the newest iPhones instead of iPod nanos (I will forever be mad that iPod nanos aren’t still a thing though!)
