I saw someone recently describe a book series I enjoyed as a teen (The Belgariad) as "aggressively heterosexual."

and on the one hand, Yes.

Absolutely.

But on the other hand, these were published in the early 1980s, and what I loved best about them on first read through was how much they absolutely dripped with familiar fantasy tropes. You saw the large strokes of plot telegraphed from extremely early, so the details could be the delightful surprise without making me as a reader feel like I failed to understand what was happening. It was unashamedly built on so many familiar tropes, and doesn't back down from its own foreshadowing. I can't think of a single "Waht a Tweeest!" moment that wasn't repeatedly foreshadowed.

But back to the aggressively hetero thing

There weren't any characters with much room for a queer reading from where I was at thirteen, but the hetero romances were pleasingly varied.

Farmboy and princess tsundere? Check!

Middle-aged co-parenting and mutual pining? Check!

Doomed courtly love? Check!

The zealot and the harlot? Spicy check!

Old Man Widower still quietly pining for his late wife? Check!

Bonus: probably ace horseman who only needs the chaste comfort of the herd and his vengeance? Check!

I know my neighborhood of the internet champions new authors and underrepresented perspectives, and so do I, but this old series is such a comfort read for me. If you get the chance, give it a try.

Today's plans 🦋

So today might be either really chill or go to 100 really quick 😅

The plan is to wake up at 6am (done ✔️) , do skincare, listen to a podcast while I check my bag for the hospital and get ready to go see my OBGYN.

If everything is alright, I might have my baby today ❤️

I can't believe I am going to be a mom. It's like the night before the first day of school. I am so excited and nervous as h3ck. (And definitely did not spend the whole night thinking how it's gonna go 😅)

I don't think I will exercise this morning because I am quite sore from yesterday's work out (pregnancy safe ofc) and if I indeed have my child, I want to reserve my energy for labour and her 🥰

Maybe some yoga to help ease labour.

Breakfast will be quite unhealthy today , as I need to get lots of sugar before today's exam (especially since my daughter likes to be asleep during them 🙄 this child already has my attitude and she isn't even born yet lmao 🤣. Plus she is in her more "quiet days" today. Sometimes -most of the times- she is hyperactive then will be less active for 2-3 days and repeat)

Let's hope everything is alright cause I am ready to have this baby (if you have been pregnant you know what I mean). 40 weeks today 🥰
