CW: COVID-19
Potent section from "Queer as in fuck you" written by anonymous and published by Sour Queer Press which resonates strongly:
What is fascinating to me is that queer community focuses so much on consent. It’s truly mind blowing to see people go back to dance and house parties, large and small events, unmasked. Poetry readings and community care events, all with either no or sloppy precautions that make no sense (fyi, if you require masks you better have a way of making sure people are wearing them or else you are still excluding disabled folks). The irony to me of a group that cares so much about community and being trauma-informed contributing to the spread of a disabling virus is too much. And there aren’t really words for seeing person after person let you down. All in the name of something we (queer militants) have a history of fighting: assimilation. Eugenics in the name of mental health. As if queer disabled people aren’t some of the most creative people I’ve met. And I’ve been so disappointed in the queer community that I forget: so much of the invisible (no thanks to you) queer community does care about covid. It’s the aesthetic, back-to-normal, eugenicist, assimilating queers that don’t care. And it dawned on me: y’all aren’t fucking queer. Your values align with every white woman you make fun of for being fragile, attached, sensitive. Queerness is more than a denim vest and who you fuck or don’t. Queerness means fighting for the very values “queer” (from this point on, y’all queer fuckers that don’t take covid seriously are getting a “”) people are abandoning. We lost an entire generation to AIDS, and the nightmare is a generation of “queers” who are happy to forget how hard we’ve fought for each other. It seems like people think queerness is more about how you look and not about how we move. So do me a favor, stop calling yourself queer. You don’t deserve the label. Go hang out with the boring ass cis hets who go to brunch on the weekend and go to that new restaurant for Wednesday night dinners. I’m sure they’ll appreciate your added spunk and since that’s what you’re assimilating into anyways, just get to it and stop pretending. In the meantime, we’ve been building community, whoever has a filter lugging it back and forth to houses, taking whatever money we can spend on masks for ourselves and each other, watching movies and making art. But I’m gonna be honest, that’s not good enough for me. That’s what you want anyways, isn’t it? For us to isolate in our communities. No, I think I’m going to start calling in our AIDS ancestors and bringing dead bodies and ashes to your doorstep.

You can follow Queer Sour Press on their blog or on Mastodon or email them here: [email protected].
Fucking depresses me no one is cautious during deaf events or pride events even though deaf people are more disproportionately likely to be disabled; and queer people are also disproportionately more likely to be disabled. Even more infuriating when one of the reasons why we don't have many queer elders over the age of 40 was because of the AIDS epidemic and we have had campaigns like safer sex awareness and consent as well as distributing harm reduction supplies such as free condoms.

The indictment from Attorney General Carr triggered strong backlash and ridicule for alleging that Stop Cop City protesters had engaged in illegal activities fueled by an anarchist ideology that centers concepts of "social solidarity," "collectivism," and "mutual aid."
The indictment claims the protesters took part in a "criminal enterprise" that allegedly began on May 25, 2020 – the date of George Floyd's murder by ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin and before anyone knew about Cop City plans.
The activists are also accused of launching a "propaganda campaign" against police violence to stop construction of the training complex.
"With this added RICO charge, I'm facing up to 20 years in prison," Julia Dupuis, one of the 61 indicted activists, wrote on X. "But the stakes of this fight go so far beyond the fates of me and my co-defendants. They’re making an example of us to silence dissent and send a chilling message."
"The legal fight ahead is going to be long, exhausting, and intimidating. But I refuse to stay silent while powerful people play games with my life and attempt to criminalize the struggle for a better world. Giving in to fear is exactly what the state wants," they added.

The Lost Cause prologue part IV
Tumblr media
I'm coming to Minneapolis! Oct 15: Presenting The Internet Con at Moon Palace Books. Oct 16: Keynoting the 26th ACM Conference On Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing.
Tumblr media
My next novel is The Lost Cause, a rollicking solarpunk adventure about defending the Green New Deal from seagoing anarcho-capitalist wreckers and white nationalist militias; Bill McKibben called it "a chronicle of mutual aid that is politically perceptive, scientifically sound, and extraordinarily hopeful":
The book comes out on Nov 14 from Tor Books and Head of Zeus, and I'm running a Kickstarter campaign to pre-sell the ebook, hardcover and (especially) the audiobook (Amazon refuses to carry my audiobooks, so this is the only way to get them into readers' hands); you can back it now:
http://lost-cause.org
To whet your appetite, I'm serializing the book's prologue, which really kicks things off:
Here's part one:

And part three:

And now, part four:
Tumblr media
A couple of my friends were working on an AP science project— they’d made an enzyme they thought would break down polyethylene at room temperature—and I’d promised that I’d help them after school. Walking home past Verdugo Park, I ran into some more friends sitting in the grass and chatting, so I sat with them, watching the kids on the playground and the dog-walkers and the swordfighting class boffing each other with foam swords, and hours slipped by.
By the time I headed home, the sun was low and the day was finally starting to cool off. I remembered that I’d forgotten to pull the blinds before going out and imagined how hot and stuffy the house would be. Maybe Gramps had gotten back early enough to lower them. Otherwise, I could lie in the backyard in my hammock and do some reading while I waited for the house to air out some.
The blinds were drawn. I went in through the back door and dropped my bag on my bed, stripped off my tee and pulled on a fresh one, and headed to the kitchen for a snack.
“Gramps?”
He didn’t answer, which I figured meant that he was playing his podcasts through his hearing aids. They were supposed to be smart enough to pass speech through, but they struggled with people shouting from other rooms. I grabbed some more iced coffee and went into the living room.
Gramps was sitting in his spot on the old sofa, staring out the window. “Gramps?”
He didn’t look around. I moved into his line of sight and then drew back. His face was set in a mask of rage I hadn’t seen since I was a kid and came to live with him, the face he’d make before he’d hit me. He hadn’t hit me in a long time, not since he’d raised a bruise where one of my middle-school teachers could see it and she’d called CPS on him. They’d made him do a month of mandatory anger-management classes.
“Gramps?” I reached for him but didn’t touch him. He was quivering.
He fixed his gaze on me. Glared.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
He stood up. He was shorter than me now, and couldn’t quite straighten up, but it still felt like he was towering over me. “Kid, you know exactly what’s wrong, and don’t pretend otherwise.”
Oh.
“Gramps, he could have killed me. I saved his life. I know he’s a friend of yours—”
“Shut the fuck up about that, kid. Don’t talk about my friends. Don’t talk about who I know and who I don’t know. You know what that dumb asshole Mike Kennedy is up against? Forty years. Seven felony counts. Most of ’em to do with you: kidnapping, assault, attempted murder. Death penalty shit. Don’t think that the DA isn’t going to use that, the feds have got a hard-on for anyone who doesn’t toe the line on their Green New Deal bullshit. They’re gonna tell him that either he testifies against his friends or he’ll get a lethal injection. Kennedy’s no genius, either. He’ll cave. You just watch.”
“Gramps—”
“Shut up, I said. You think saying my name on your viral video is gonna help anything. Shit, kid, why didn’t you just turn me in yourself?”
“Come on, Gramps. I didn’t plan this, Mike did.” I wanted so badly to leave, but Gramps was between me and the door. “Tell you what, let’s go visit him. They’ll let him have visitors in lockup, right?”
Gramps sagged back down into his chair. “Kennedy’s not in lockup. They let him go an hour ago.”
“Oh,” I said. “Well, that sounds good, right?”
He shook his head and gave me a disgusted look. “No, kid, that doesn’t sound good. That sounds like he ratted everyone out already. In which case he’s a fucking dead man.”
I took a deep breath. Gramps was clearly on the brink of losing it altogether and telling him he was being overly dramatic would definitely push him right over the edge. “If that’s true, then maybe you should talk to your other friends, or maybe him—”
“Just shut up, okay? Don’t talk about shit you don’t and can’t understand. Look, if Kennedy sold out his friends then he’s got what’s coming to him and besides, there isn’t a damned thing in the world I could do to stop it. But what’s more likely is that he didn’t say a word, but they’ve put him on the street so that people get the impression that maybe he did, and now he’s in fear for his life and the only way to save his skin is to run back to the station house and start talking. It wouldn’t be the first time they tried that stunt. And the fact is, it doesn’t matter which one it is because he’s gonna get shut up before he can do that, because everyone understands what’s going on here and what’s at stake. So me calling that sad sack now would just make me the last person who spoke to the victim before he turned up dead.”
“That’s terrible.”
“No, kid, that’s life. What’s terrible is that my own grandson is involved in this ugly stupid mess, and that every dumbass on the internet is trading clips with my name in them, doxing me, associating me with this ridiculous garbage.”
Now I was starting to get mad. “I didn’t do it on purpose, you know. Your friend threatened to kill me. I didn’t tell him to get up on that roof or fill his Super Soaker with hydrochloric acid.”
“Yeah, you didn’t, that’s true.” He picked up a beer from the table next to him, finished the last swallow, set it down. “You didn’t. But you were and you did and now—” He shook his empty beer. “Ah, shit. Brooks, listen, you know that my friends are okay, but some of their friends . . .”
I knew. I’d sometimes spot Gramps’s friends marching with the Maga Club groups, carrying ugly signs, conspiracies and racism and “demographics are destiny.” Or set up with a table on Magnolia on Food Truck Friday, showing videos about “the great replacement” and “socialist tyranny.”
“I know who you mean.”
“None of ’em ever liked you. They didn’t like your father even before he went to Canada with that woman. When he did, well, that sealed it for ’em. To leave America and go work for the socialists? Kid, it’s a good thing he never tried to come back here, I’ll tell you that much. Far as they’re concerned, the only good thing that rabbit flu did was kill a bunch of foreign commies, agitators, traitors, and climate bed wetters. By which they mean your father and mother. And by extension, that means you. Your sex thing doesn’t help either—”
My head filled with that buzzing sound I heard whenever Gramps tried to talk to me about sexuality. The fact that I wouldn’t call myself straight made him crazy. The fact that I wouldn’t say “gay” or “bi” or any of those old-fashioned terms made him absolutely bugfuck. “Queer” was okay with me, or “pan,” but honestly, who the fuck cared? Why would my grandfather need to know which people I wanted to fuck and which people I did fuck? I’d explained this to him calmly and I’d had shouting matches with him about it. My other friends had problems with this stuff, sure, but their parents were able to at least pretend to understand. Gramps was a generation older and not only didn’t he understand, he didn’t want to. “Just pick one, kid,” is what he’d say, and then I’d overhear him saying worse to his friends when they took over the kitchen to play poker or the living room to watch a game.
“Jesus, Gramps”—that buzzing sound was blood, of course, coursing in my ears as my rage built and built—“would you just shut up about that bullshit? I don’t care what your asshole friends want. In case you didn’t notice, one of them nearly murdered me last night—”
“Shut. Up.” Loud, in that boss voice he used when he was getting everyone else to listen to him, whether it was on a jobsite or during an argument over cards. “Yeah, one of my friends just about murdered you last night, but he didn’t, did he? You know why? Because of me. Because of who I am in this community. Our name, Palazzo, it goes back a long way in this town. We’re Lockheed originals, thanks to my own dad. That counts for something. You’re safe because you’re my grandson, that’s what I’m trying to explain to you. But it’s not a get-out-of-jail-free card. You’re not untouchable.”
“Thanks for letting me know.” I hated it when Gramps acted like he was in the Mafia because he and his friends were the kinds of assholes who periodically got drunk or disturbed enough to commit some act of idiotic vandalism.
“Kid—” he started. I left.

Help a young person eat and get gas
People don’t really do mutual aid on facebook and this is the only other social media I have. Here is a donation post from someone in my community:
“ So yesterday, my housemates sons other parent came to town. It was suppose to be just a visit with them because he starts school here on the 8 and has orientation today. The other parent ended up attempting to take their son and flee, despite agreeing that he would be attending school here in Minneapolis. I assume it was a lie to just get out here and take him.  They are now threatening with the police and court ordered warrants so we will temporarily staying somewhere else until they leave back out of state. If anyone can help with gas money so we can get to his orientation on time and also get food. My ebt doesn’t hit til the 11th. $luvsmooshh @luvsmooshh”
That’s their cashapp and their venmo. Help out if you can

#JamesDonaldson On #MentalHealth – ‘A Sad State Of Affairs’ For #MentalHealth In #America
Tumblr media
“I believe I will be helping people navigate the effects of the #pandemic for the rest of my career,” said Leah Seeger, a marriage and family #therapist in Minneapolis. To the Editor: “We Surveyed 1,320 #Therapists Across the Nation. They’re Worried About #MentalHealth in the U.S.” (news article, Jan. 3): #Psychiatrists were not included in this Times survey, sent by Psychology Today to its professional members, but there were references to my field that illustrate a sad state of affairs. A quarter of those polled said #suicidalthoughts were among the leading reasons #patients sought help. Sixty percent said more #patients wanted medication. One clinical social worker noted that a person who was suicidal and depressed had to wait three months to see a #psychiatrist for medication. That waiting time was not just for #psychiatrists: Nearly a third of the #therapists surveyed said it could take at least three months to get an appointment with them, if at all. If a person is severely depressed and suicidal, a professional should evaluate them immediately. I know from being a hospital #psychiatrist throughout my career that this evaluation can be accomplished in an emergency room. The problem is that the necessary, close follow-up care is not accessible to most who cannot pay out of pocket. It is often difficult to find those who will accept fees paid by insurance. As a society, we have to examine our priorities for how money is allocated, and whether #mentalhealth is worth the financial investment. Jeffrey B. FreedmanNew York To the Editor: It’s about time this survey was conducted. I’ve been hitting my head against the wall in frustration since #Covid began, trying to get national coverage of our #mentalhealthcrisis. Now, let’s take needed actions or we will face worsening incidences of #PTSD. As the article stated, medical workers are already suffering. We will also see increases in #massshootings, uncontrolled anger against airline stewards, #domesticabuse, #substanceabuse and #suicides. Here are some things we can do: Broadcast and print media: Offer continual #mentalhealthreports. Post the 800 number for crisis and #suicidehotlines everywhere, along with symptoms of acute #stress. Warn about deadly pills through #socialmedia. #Schools: Talk to #students about #stress, #depression and #suicidalideation. Add needed #counselors. Community, state and federal governments: Determine needs of vulnerable populations and how to respond immediately. Find additional #therapists and #psychiatric ward availability. Demand insurance parity. Most important: End the #stigma. Finally put #mental and physical health on equal footing. Sharon L. CohenNewtown, Conn. The writer is the co-author of “Disaster #MentalHealth Community Planning.” To the Editor: Surviving the #pandemic has proved to be a lot easier for me than surviving the relentless demands of home care for my wife, who recently died after eight years with #Alzheimer’s. I hope you conduct a similar survey of the #mentalhealth costs of home care for those with #dementia, especially as millions of #babyboomers soon begin to turn 80. Our #mentalhealth system may be in crisis right now, but an even bigger and more enduring #mentalhealthcrisis may lie right around the corner. Jerome T. MurphyCambridge, Mass. To the Editor: As a social work clinician, educator and board member of the International Association for Social Work With Groups, I have been very concerned about the social and emotional impact of the #pandemic on people of all ages and backgrounds. #Socialisolation plays a key role in the sharp rise in #mentalhealthproblems described in this article. An individual #therapist can do much, but is unable to provide the sense of belonging that a group can offer. In social work practice with groups, the experience of mutual aid promotes connection, increases #self-esteem and lessens isolation for its members. Since the start of the #pandemic, groups have been meeting safely and effectively online. Using group methods can serve more people, decrease waiting lists and lessen pressure on individual #therapists. We need to provide opportunities for clients to join groups that can counter the terrible #isolation of so many. Ann M. BergartChicago #James Donaldson notes: Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes. Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use. Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space.  #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticle Order your copy of James Donaldson's latest book, #CelebratingYourGiftofLife: From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy http://www.celebratingyourgiftoflife.com Read the full article

On the 2 year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, we give honor to his legacy and how much the world changed, only to stay the same. 2 weeks ago, I was blessed to be able to visit the sacred space where Mr. Floyd was killed. Advocacy, mutual aid and people power exploded. The role of community in policy, politics and healing grew exponentially. There were shifts in support of grassroots groups/organizations and we seemingly were moving toward a more equitable world. Our world changed temporarily and people were activated and showing up for one another. 2 years later, we’re back to the same places we were on May 24, 2020. Lastly, a man became a symbol of hope but a baby lost her dad. He was never a hashtag; he was one of many that we’ve lost unnecessarily. Today and everyday… How do we continue to hold space for one another and continue healing when we never truly address the problems in America? Rest in power 👑 (at Minneapolis, Minnesota) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd_caIil_go/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Rumored Buzz on Selling Homes
Tumblr media
Vendors' brokers, on the other hand, figure out the market values of their customers' buildings, listing and also program properties, connect with vendors about deals, and help in the offer process.
In basic, associate brokers do not monitor other agents. Each genuine estate workplace has actually one marked broker.
They also gain compensations from their very own offers, however unlike real estate agents, they do not have to divide their commission with "the office." Realtors A Real estate professional is a property specialist that is a member of the National Organization of Realtors (NAR), the largest profession association in the UNITED STATE Although the term "Real estate professional" is typically puzzled with that of "actual estate representative," the designation is open to a range of professions within the property market, including: Residential and also commercial genuine estate brokers Salesmens Home managers Evaluators How to come to be a Realtor Any person that desires to end up being a Real estate professional has to meet 4 needs: Have a legitimate as well as energetic property certificate Be proactively taken part in the actual estate business Not have a record of official assents including unprofessional conduct Not have declared any type of recent or pending bankruptcy Following, the person needs to join among the National Association of Realtors' local genuine estate associations, pay a single application cost, and also pay yearly subscription as a result of preserve their Real estate professional condition.
Bound by the NAR's Code of Ethics, Realtors assure to be transparent and honest as well as to uphold their clients' ideal interests in all deals. As of August 2020, NAR videotaped even more than 1. 4 million members across the country, 65% of whom were licensed sales agents. best rhode island mortgage broker of these were brokers, as well as 15% held broker associate licenses.
It can not, nevertheless, be made use of as a designation of the specialist's certificate status.
Are the terms "property agent" and "Real estate agent" compatible? Those inside the market understand that they're not, but they also recognize it appears to be a little bit of an industry secret lots of consumers aren't certain in any way what the difference is in between a real estate agent as well as a Realtor, or whether there also is one.
Realtor thing works. The titles "actual estate representative" and also "Real estate agent" are typically utilized mutually. Due to the fact that utilizing the term "realty representative" can be a bit cumbersome and also verbose, those that might not recognize with the distinctions between both classifications commonly make use of the term "Real estate agent" as a shorthand to describe anyone that remains in the organization helpful people purchase as well as offer property.
Although both property representatives and also Real estate professionals are certified to sell realty, each title refers to a specific kind of real estate specialist, and there are remarkable distinctions in between the two. A property agent is anybody that is qualified to aid individuals deal industrial or property.
All actual estate agents need to pay a yearly licensing charge and renew them every one or 2 years, depending on the state. In some states, agents might have to complete a certain amount of continuing education and learning programs before their licenses can be renewed.
The association was originally established in 1908 as the National Association of Property Exchanges and altered its name in 1916 to The National Association of Real Estate Boards. That same year, Charles N. Chadbourn, a property agent in Minneapolis and also vice head of state of the National Association of Realty Boards, suggested the usage of the term "Real estate agent" to offer members of the association a method to differentiate themselves from non-members.
There have actually NAR has dealt with legal challenges arguing that "Real estate professional" is a common term and should not be a trademark. Headquartered in Chicago, NAR has even more than 1 million members throughout the country as well as subscription is not limited to only actual estate representatives as well as brokers.
