CHAPTER 5: THE DARK WOLF THAT SMOLDERS (PART 7+8)

(Part 5+6) | (Part 9)

In this part, we pick back up with Hilda escorting Yuri’s group to Mercuria’s Lotus Villa. While they’re there, they end up running into Richter, who is having a bit of a problem. The second part largely revolves around Mileena talking with Jade and Raine about some of her missing memories.

Soldier: —All right, let’s go! ——いいぞ、通れ！

Hilda: Thank you for your patronage. どうも、毎度ご贔屓に。

Hilda: —We can catch our breath now. We are now inside the Imperial Palace. ——ここならひと息つけるわよ。とりあえず離宮内に入るだけは入ったから。

Karol: We passed through a service gate… But, what is this place? 確かに通用門は通れたけど……ここはどこ？

Hilda: A detached storehouse. The inner palace is in the building opposite to us. 離れの貯蔵庫。離宮の内殿は向かいの建物よ。

Velvet: …As I thought, there are guards nearby. It’ll be a nuisance if they make a fuss. ……やっぱり、あっちは見張りがいる。騒がれるとやっかいね。

Raven: Aaaah, if they were women, then Ol’ Raven could just use his melon-melon tech to pass by in one shot. あ～あ、女の子だったら、おっさんのテクでメロンメロンの一発通過なのに。

Karol: If you approached a woman, wouldn’t they just make even more noise? You’re too suspicious. レイヴンが女の人に近寄ったら余計騒がれちゃうんじゃない？見るからに怪しいし。

Raven: Hey, now!? I have a lot of charm with the ladies! にゃにおう！ ?俺様の魅力にかかればだなあ！

Hilda: …It’s like I’m watching Mao and Tytree again. ……まったく、マオとティトレイを見てるみたい。

Hilda: It can’t be helped. I’ll take care of it, so when I give you the signal, run to the other building. 仕方ないわね。私が何とかするから、合図したら向かいの建物に走って。

Yuri: Sure you’re up for this? あんたは大丈夫なのか？

Hilda: I said I would take care of it. In any case, Astor will be in trouble if you cause a scene in a place like this. So, hurry up. 適当にやるわよ。それよりも、あんたらがこんな所で騒ぎを起こしたら、アスター様に迷惑がかかる。だからさっさと行って。

[ Hilda approaches a soldier ]

Hilda: —Hey, you. This card is scheduled for delivery, but the number on the order form says—oh, aaah! ——ねえ、そこの兵士さん。納品予定のこのカードなんだけど、注文票の数と——あっ、あああ!

[ Hilda drops her cards ]

Soldier: Hey, don’t just drop weird cards everywhere. Pick those up. おい、こんな所に変なカードをばらまくな。さっさと拾え。

Hilda: These are gifts for Princess Mercuria, aren’t they? If even one card is missing, and they knew you watched without helping me— これはメルクリア様へのお届けものよ？一枚でもなくしたら、一緒にいたあんただって責任が——

Soldier: Tsk…fine, then. チッ……仕方ない。

Hilda: ——！

Yuri: Now, let’s go! 今だ、行くぞ！

[ Yuri's group runs past ]

Soldier: There, is that all of them? ほら、これで全部か？

Hilda: Yes, thank you… No, wait, there’s one missing. ええ。 Thank you. ……あら、一枚足りない。

Soldier: Oh, here’s the last one. …You’re a total pain in the ass. Ask the guy in charge about the order form. ああ、ここにもう一枚あったぞ。 ……まったく世話かけさせてくれる。納品のことなら担当の奴に聞いてくれ。

Hilda: —! The moon…it’s upright… ——！このカード……月の正位置……。

Soldier: Did you say something? なにか言ったか？

Hilda: No, it’s nothing… いえ、なんでもないわ……。

[ SCENE CHANGE: Inner Palace ]

Guy: So, now what? で、ここからどう探りを入れるんだ？

Velvet: Now, we hurry up and find— 手っ取り早く、そこらの奴を捕まえて——

???: You still haven’t found him yet!? まだ見つからないのか！ ?

Luke: Damn! They’ve found us already!? Where do we hide— ヤベェ！もうバレたのか！？隠れる所は——

Karol: Everyone, quick, let’s hide in this room! It’s empty! みんな、この部屋入れるよ！誰もいない！

[ Everyone hides while Richard comes out ]

Soldier: I’m sorry, Richard! We have no idea where he is. 申し訳ありません、リヒター様！いまだ行方が知れないままです。

Richter: Recruit more men! Tell the knights guarding the Kaleidoscope to join the search for Aster! もっと人数を増やして捜せ！カレイドスコープに配備されてる騎士団もアステル捜索に参加するよう伝えろ！

[ Richter and the soldier leave, the others come out ]

Karol: …So, the soldiers are looking for someone named Aster, not us. ……ここの兵士、ボクたちじゃなくてアステルって人を探してるみたいだね。

Luke: More importantly, didn’t that guy say Kaleidoscope? Wouldn’t that mean there’s another Kaleidoscope here? それよりもさ、今の話だとこの離宮にカレイドスコープがあるってことになるんじゃねえか？

Guy: Kaleidoscope… It must be different from the broken one in Sellund. Which means… カレイドスコープ……。セールンドで壊れたものとは別ってことだよな。っていうと……。

Guy: This must be the Kaleidoscope left behind by Phantom! Remember the blueprints Chester showed us? ファントムの残したカレイドスコープか！チェスターが持ってきた設計図の。

Laphicet: That’s right! When we fought with him, he said he was going to create a new world with his Kaleidoscope. そうだよ！ファントムと戦ってる時に、新たな世界は、自分のカレイドスコープで作るって言ってたから。

Raven: Right, right! And he was so proud of the fact that he’d hidden it where we’d never find it. そうだったそうだった！しかも、俺様たちにはわからない場所にあるって得意気にさ。

Karol: So, he was hiding it here. We’re so lucky we managed to find it! その隠し場所がここだったのか。偶然わかっちゃってボクたちラッキーだね！

Velvet: …What’s with this. Why are they using Phantom’s…it’s not a toy! ……なによ。何で今さらファントムの……冗談じゃないわ！

Velvet: If they keep using it, there’s a chance that vengeful creature will come out again... * そんなものが出て来たら、またあの復讐鬼と出会う可能性だって……。

Laphicet: Velvet… it’s okay. No matter what, I’ll be with every single step. ベルベット……大丈夫。どんな時だって、僕は一緒にいるから。

Velvet: …Phi… ……フィー。

Yuri: Well, we’ve got our souvenirs now. This, and knowledge about the order of knights. Not sure what to do with the rest of the info, though—you still with us, Velvet? ま、何にしろこれで土産ができた。それに騎士団がいるってのもわかったしな。後の情報は——やるか？ベルベット。

Velvet: I already told you I would come with you. あたしは最初からそう言ってるけど。

Karol: Eh…what are you two talking about? え……一体なんのこと？

Yuri: We're going to grab those soldiers and find out where the Knights and Kaleidoscope are. Here we go! そこらの兵士をとっ捕まえて、騎士団やカレイドスコープの場所を聞き出すんだよ。ほら、行くぜ！

Jade: What is it, Mileena? You wanted to talk to us about General Nazar. どうしました、ミリーナ。ナーザ将軍の件で、私たちに話があるとのことですが。

Raine: He's the one who looks just like Ix. Did you find any clues? イクスとそっくりの彼のことね。何か手がかりでもあった？

Mileena: Yes… I’ve been thinking about it for a long time. Nazar…Ix looks more mature, and I feel nostalgic when I see him. はい……。ずっと気になっていたんです。ナーザの……イクスが少し大人びたようなあの顔立ち、どこか懐かしい気がするって。

Mileena: So, I started reviewing the memories Gefion left inside me. それで私の中にある、ゲフィオンの記憶をたどってみました。

Mileena: What came to mind was the day the first Ix died. 思い当たったのは、最初のイクスが亡くなった日のことです。

Raine: The first Ix… I suppose we should just call him the first one. 最初のイクス……。一人目、とでも呼べばいいのかしらね。

Mileena: Ix lost his life protecting me—Gefion, from Bifrost's soldiers. Ix was twenty-two years old at the time. イクスは私——ゲフィオンをビフレストの兵士から守って命を落としました。当時のイクスは22才です。

Mileena: General Nazar’s face looks… very similar to how Ix’s was at the time. その時のイクスの顔だちは、ナーザ将軍と……とても良く似ています。

Jade: Ix at twenty-two years old. Speaking of which, everyone who has met General Nazar mentioned that he looked a little older than Ix. 22才のイクスですか。そう言えば、ナーザ将軍と会った者はみな口々に、イクスよりも少々大人びて見えたと言ってますね。

Mileena: Yes, he looked older to me, too. はい。私もそう見えました。

Raine: Ix has already been exoflected twice. Based on our current theory, it would be extremely difficult exoflect him a third time. イクスは既に二回、具現化されているわ。現時点での理論上、三度目の具現化は難しいまず。

Raine: …I don’t think it’s possible, but if he’s not from the past, perhaps someone ran an animal search and pulled him from a potential future… ……まさかとは思うけど、過去からではなく不確定な未来をアニマサーチして具現化したなんてことは……。

Mileena: I’m sorry. It’s taken me a while to tell you all this… ごめんなさい。言い遅れました。そのことなんですけど……。

Mileena: Ix died protecting Gefion, and his right arm was wounded during that: ゲフィオンを守って死んだイクスはその時に右腕を負傷しました。

Mileena: If I’m not mistaken, Nazar’s right arm…is prosthetic. 私の見間違いでなければ、ナーザ将軍の右腕は……義手なんです。

Jade: An Ix who is twenty-two years old and has an injured arm… 22才のイクスが、腕に負傷した状態……。

Jade: In other words, that Nazar man is in almost the same condition as the first Ix at the moment of his death. つまり、あのナーザという男は一人目のイクスが死んだ瞬間の状態とほぼ同じである——と。

Mileena: …Yes. ……はい。

Jade: Then the most likely scenario is that General Nazar is the first Ix himself. ならば可能性として高いのはナーザ将軍は一人目のイクスその人、ということでしょうね。

Jade: However, current theory states he could not have been exoflected. Therefore— しかし理論上、具現化ではあり得ない。ならば——

Jade: Perhaps Bifrost could have preserved Ix’s corpse for some reason, and is using it now… That could be a possibility. 当時のイクスの遺体を、何らかの理由でビフレストが保存しており、今利用している……そんなところでしょうか。

Mileena: …Preserving a corpse, huh. ……死体を保存、ですか。

Raine: Mileena, what’s wrong? ミリーナ、どうかした？

Mileena: Nothing… I’m just stuck on something… いえ、その……少し引っかかって……。

Mileena: Gefion’s memory gets very vague after Ix’s death… イクスが亡くなった直後のゲフィオンの記憶が、とても曖昧で……。

Mileena: No matter how many times I think back, it looks like Ix's body was turned into motes of light and disappeared because of the Kaleidoscope. 何度思い返しても、イクスの体がまるでカレイドスコープのせいで光の砂になって消えたように見えるんです。

Mileena: But, the Kaleidoscope hadn’t even been created. So, that’s impossible. And, yet… あの時点で、カレイドスコープは開発されていません。そんなことはありえない。なのに……。

Raine: Maybe the psychological impact of the incident jumbled Gefion's memory. 心理的な衝撃が、ゲフィオンの記憶を混乱させてしまったのかしら。

Raine: Ix died because he defended her, and her powerful remorse for killing so many people with the Kaleidoscope she developed. 自分をかばったせいで亡くなったイクスと自分が開発したカレイドスコープで多くの人々を殺めた自責の念。

Raine: All these feelings crossing over each other—or, maybe that’s too simple an explanation. それが交錯してしまった結果——というのは考えすぎかしらね。

Mileena: …I’m sorry. This is so important, but I can’t clearly say. ……すみません。大事なことなのにはっきりしなくて。

Jade: …There’s still a lot of room for doubt. But, for the time being, let’s proceed with the idea that Nazar is Ix’s corpse. ……まだ再考の余地があるようですね。ですが、ナーザの件はイクスの死体であることを前提に考えていきましょう。

Jade: To be honest, I’m a little reluctant to say this as I have yet to determine a definite answer, but… 正直な所、結論が出ないうちにこういったことを口にするのは少々不本意ですが……。

Jade: We must all be prepared for a relationship between Ix and Nazar, no matter what it might be. あなたにとっても、私たちにとってもイクスとナーザの関係に対して心構えはしておかねばなりませんから。

Raine: Ah…so this is what you mean. I thought it was unusual for you to share your thoughts at the possibility stage, but now I'm a little more open to it. ああ……そういうことなのね。可能性の段階で言葉にするなんて珍しいと思ったのだけれど、少し見直したわ。

Jade: My my, I haven’t a clue what you’re talking about. おやおや、なんのことでしょう。

Cecily: Mileena, there you are. I need to talk to you about something—...... are you busy? ミリーナ、ここにいたのね。相談したい事があるんだけど——……お話し中？

Mileena: Oh, I'm fine, but could you wait just a minute? あ、大丈夫だけど、ちょっとだけ待っててもらえる？

Jade: No, let's have Cecily listen in. She's been studying Bifrost's mirrage technology. いえ、セシリイにも聞いてもらいましょう。彼女はビフレストの魔鏡技術を研究していたのですから。

Cecily: Huh…? え……？

[ Flash forward ]

Cecily: So, General Nazar came from Ix’s… そう。ナーザ将軍はイクスの……。

Raine: Yes. Comparing the current situation with Mileena’s memories, it's very likely. ええ。現状とミリーナの記憶を比較すると可能性は高いわ。

Cecily: …It’s possible that they preserved his remains. ……遺体を保存していたことはあり得るかも知れない。

Mileena: What!? Why do you think that? え！ ?どうしてそう思うの？

Cecily: Because I heard that Bifrost attacked Odanse to steal mirristry technology that was only in Sellund. ビフレストがオーデンセに攻め入ったのはセールンドにしかない魔鏡技術を奪うためと聞いているから……。

Mileena: Really? …I’m sorry. My memories of Gefion are still hazy in places. そうだったの？ ……ごめんなさい。称ゲフィオンとしての記憶が所々曖昧で。

Mileena: I thought Gefion might know the reason why Bifrost attacked, so I tried to search my memory, but I couldn't understand it well… ゲフィオンはビフレストが攻め入った理由を知っていそうだと思って、記憶を探ってみたんだけど、よくわからなくて……。

Cecily: Uh, um. Um, so, I heard that story while I was being forced to do research for the Empire… あ、ううん。あの、えっと、私も帝国で研究させられてたときにそんな話をちょっと……。

Jade: ………………。

Raine: …Cecily, you’re telling us that Bifrost brought back the body of Ix, a mirrist researcher, as a clue to investigate Sellund’s mirristry technology— ……セシリイが言いたいのは、ビフレストがセールンド側の魔鏡技術を探る手がかりに鏡士であるイクスの遺体を持ち帰った——

Raine: That’s what you mean? そういうことよね。

Cecily: Yes. If you’re sure that that’s Ix’s corpse, then that means that Nazar might be the first Living Doll test subject. はい。もしイクスの遺体であることが間違いないなら、ナーザはリビングドールの最初の被験者なんじゃないかな。

Cecily: Mercuria…I think she would do that. メルクリアなら……やりそうな気がする。

Mileena: Living Dolls… Putting another’s anima into an empty body… リビングドール……。空の体に別のアニマを入れる……。

Jade: I see. A foreign anima has entered the corpse of the first Ix. I suppose we should consider that to be Nazar's true identity. なるほど。一人目のイクスの死体に別のアニマが入りこんだ存在。それがナーザの正体と見るべきでしょうね。

Raine: By the way, you’ve met Mercuria before, right? そういえば、あなたは確かメルクリアに会ったことがあるのよね。

Cecily: Yes… She’s—innocent. And because she’s so innocent, she can be very cruel. And she really loves mirrists. はい……。あの方——あの人はとても無邪気な人で、無邪気だから残酷で。それに鏡士のことがとても好きなんです。

Cecily: All of the Bifrost royal family were mirrists… ビフレストの皇族はみんな鏡士だし……。

Jade: As I recall, it took about ten years after the end of the war, when the Sandstorm of Death manifested, to exoflect the second Ix and Mileena. 確か終戦後、死の砂嵐が発生してから二人目のイクスとミリーナを具現化するまで10年ほどの時間を費やしたそうですね。

Jade: Would that make Mercuria between twelve and thirteen years old? ということは、メルクリアは現在12、13歳ぐらいでしょうか？

Cecily: I think that sounds right… それぐらいだと思います……。

Jade: At that age, no matter how precocious she is, it would be difficult for adults to fall in line behind her. I have no doubt that Demitrius is guiding Mercuria. その年齢ではいくら早熟でも、大人を従えるのは難しい。メルクリアの背後にはデミトリアスがいるのは間違いないですね。

Mileena: …Mercuria. If she was brought to Sellund as a hostage after the war, Gefion had to have known about it. ……メルクリア。終戦後に人質としてセールンドに来たなら、ゲフィオンは知っている筈ですよね。

Mileena: But I have no memories of this. I don’t know why. でもそれに関しても記憶がないんです。どうしてなのかしら。

Raine: Perhaps you should start investigating the memories of Gefion inside of you. あなたの中のゲフィオンの記憶に関しても調査が必要なのかも知れないわね。

Mileena: …You’re right. ……はい。

[Special Gacha] Tales of the Rays vol.2 Duration: 6/13 (Mon) 16:00 ～ 7/4 (Mon) 15:59

Chance to get Bond Awakening enabled 5☆ Ix [Parade], Mileena [Parade], Karya N. [Parade] and Mark [Parade].

✶ This gacha features a 7 Step Up gacha, where you pay a discounted rate to draw 10 characters and continuously raise your chances of pulling a 5☆. The fourth step is free, and with the seventh step a Bond Awakening enabled 5☆ character is guaranteed. Steps will not be resetted even if you get a Bond Awakening enabled 5☆ character before the seventh step.

✶You will also get rewards after a certain number of steps, and with the 21st you will be able to choose one of the featured characters (you need a total of 810 Asteria Stones to reach the 21st step.)

In this gacha will also reappear other Bond Awakening enabled 5☆ characters. The rates of this gacha’s featured characters will be higher than other 5☆.

A special pick up event will be held, where one of the featured characters will have the summon rate higher than the others on certain days:

Ix: from 6/16 (Thu) 16:00 to 6/19 (Sun) 15:59

Mileena: from 6/19 (Sun) 16:00 to 6/22 (Wed) 15:59

Karya: from 6/22 (Wed) 16:00 to 6/25 (Sat) 15:59

For the event, the single daily pull will cost 3 Asteria Stones instead of 5.

There’s also the paid option to get a 5☆ character with a multi gacha.
