NatsuYuu chapter->episode masterlist with brief summaries (last updated: July 2023)

Prior to writing The Cat and His Boy (shameless self-promo, ye) I rewatched the anime and caught up on the manga, then put together a chapter->episode list to figure out the timeline. It was for my own writing purposes, but it’s just occurred to me that I really ought to share it :D

Under the cut, you can find a list of all manga chapters (e.g. “ch11″) and manga specials (e.g. “sp8″) in the manga’s chronological order, with the corresponding anime episode numbers noted, along with brief summaries. Anime-original stuff (some OVAs, the first movie, etc.) is also included where I think they roughly go, timeline-wise.

Chapters that have not been adapted into anime yet are marked “!!NOT ADAPTED!!” so you can easily find what you’ve missed if you’re only up to date with the anime but want to read ahead.

We Married as a Job

Pros

I have a weakness to dramas of marriage contracts. I didn’t have very high expectations for this show because I thought it would be a rom-com like the others but this drama manages to be very cute and thoughtful but, at the same time very quirky, in the most delightful manga way. Love at first sight, U guys!

Aragaki Yui as Mikuri is adorable. She is sincere, caring and diligent.

Hoshino Gen as Hiramasa is the perfect choice for this show. I usually prefer to see a drama with a tall, handsome male lead but Hiramasa manages to captivate and is extremely cute. He is serious, awkward and quite shy.

OTP is so adorable. The feelings between the two are changing and the whole logical, rational but always sincere way they go through things is so romantic and adorably awkward.

The secondary love line. I loved the growing relationship between Kazami (Otani Ryohei) and Yuri (Ishida Yuriko). And I rooted for both of them until the end.

Mikuri's parents (Ukaji Takashi and Tomita Yasuko) are completely crazy but very warm.

Hiramata's strange colleagues: Hino, Numata and Kazami. Nothing typical and a lot of fun.

Cons

The ending was not that romantic and adorable. Or, my expectations were too high.

Voici le 11e et dernier épisode. J'espère que vous avez apprécier ce drama. Je m'excuse pour la longue attente, mais avec mes divers problèmes et mon gros coup de flemme ensuite, j'ai enfin pu finir la traduction pour la première fois toute seule d'un drama.Quelques précisions sur cet épisode :• Le magasin à 100 yens : c'est un magasin où tous les articles vendus coûtent soit 100 yens, soit moins cher. Comme d'habitude, c'est un concept très japonais, donc j'ai fait une traduction au mot à mot vu qu'il n'existe pas d'équivalent en français à ma connaissance.• Le senbei est une galette de riz gluant qui peut aussi bien être sucré ou salé.• LINE est une des messageries instantanées les plus utilisées au Japon.• En 5:40, quand Mikuri contemple la rue en étant morose, c'est une allusion à l'anime Ikkyuu-san.• Les réunions de l'entreprise 303 est une parodie du drama Sanada Maru.• La femme d'Hino apparaissant à la fin de l'épisode est la vraie femme de l'acteur interprêtant Hino (Fujii Takashi).• Les noms des enfants imaginaires de Mikuri et Hiramasa sont tous des noms de poissons.• Le jeu final est une parodie du jeu "Tokyo Friend Park" sur TBS.

NigeHaji thoughts

“tl;dr from a comment on kissasian ( more thoughts on the show in general and its finale below the cut ):

This drama overall was great. It was interesting; a silly concept, but very good dialogues and insights about relationships from a very realistic though quirky perspective, which is refreshing compared to all the idealized portrayals of love in romance shows that are just as real as the supernatural fantasy genre.

Thoughts on the show itself:

ending was too perfect, man. The overall journey was so enjoyable, but it's way amplified by the ending. Most things were resolved in a really satisfying way, and the show ties up everything so well. I was actually wondering how the drama would end, since the manga is still ongoing. Anyway it's been such a while since I've encountered an ending perfect for a show

Hiramasa's problems with himself were rather obvious compared to Mikuri's, so I'm really glad that both were addressed and "solved" rather nicely. It's so heartwarming watching the two of them (and even the supporting characters!) grow.

I say "solved" in the earlier point because they recognize that challenges still await them in the future so they would continue to work hard and adapt their lifestyle to whatever life throws at them. I love this, and how they're open to any path that they may take.

(plus points for their "business-like" behavior in the way they just live. It's what hooked me on this show, really)

I've learned so many life lessons here, and the way they're done is not in-your-face or preachy at all. They're so integrated perfectly with the show's general feel

the challenges/aspects of life and society are presented in a cute/awkward yet realistic way here

characters are so relatable in their own ways, too (i say own ways, because NigeHaji managed to give us perspectives of people with diff problems not usually tackled in a lot of shows)

and! i love how the two leads realize their shortcomings mostly of their own accord. I love seeing them contemplate on their behavior and thinking and work on what needs to be worked on. Both for themselves and for the other party.

and! they communicate, man. *standing ovation*

DID I MENTION I LOVE ALMOST EVERY CHARACTER HERE (neutral on “Posimon” hahahaha). THE BABY IS SO ADORABLE AAHHH (i always forget her name tho hahaha)

if you feel like watching two adorable and awkward cinnamon rolls grow individually and with each other, this is the show for you

Stuff I loved in the finale and some thoughts on it, so spoilers?:

in my first point above the cut, I said “most stuff” because we didn’t really see the two resolve the issue about housework hahaha

watching Mikuri’s negative thoughts about what’s happening to her and regarding herself tugged at my heartstrings so much

I love how Hiramasa found an early solution to Mikuri’s gloom regarding exploitation. Married partners = joint management representatives. So typical of them.

Hiramasa: “I thought if there’s love, we wouldn’t need a system, but it seems it wasn’t that simple.” (yeeeesss. marriage won’t hold long enough if there’s only love; both peeps hafta work hard on the other aspects, too)

THEIR “COMPANY MEETINGS”

Mikuri: “I think that if it’s clean enough not to trouble my lifestyle, I can keep on living.”

Numata-san to Hiramasa: “Are you lovers? Are you passion?” *lols at “passion”*

Numata-san and Hino-san’s shenanigans when Hiramasa was talking about him and Mikuri was so funny and adorbs

(in reference to the third point) Hiramasa: “I’m realizing that there are things you can’t do with love alone.” :)

I can’t with Hiramasa trying to hide the lack of rice from Mikuri. their banter really is the best xD too bad it ended on a gloomy note :’)

upon rewatching, only then did I notice the Answer Cut cut to Narita when Numata-san said that the particular LINE conversation is his only oasis. :oooo

Hiramasa to Mikuri: "You said you're not normal. But to me, it's a bit late. I knew that a long time ago. It's not a big deal. Through the world's common sense, we weren't normal from the start." *cue heartwarming feels here*

Mikuri's thoughts: "When things don't go well... the person who waits for you... the person who believes in you... you can't lose sight of them.

how Yuri-san dealt with the young woman who tried to provoke her. I myself was ready to fite her, but damn, Yuri-san managed to see through the girl's insecurity and even made her reflect, damn

how two other side couples getting together didn’t feel like “just because” at all for me

it came to me as a fleeting thought that Yuri and Kazami would eventually end up together but I wasn’t really keen on how that would come about. I was actually saddened by their apartment scene already yet I already accepted as a nice/”heartwarming”/”feels” way to end their relationship. But then their open-air market scene happened. I was not disappointed at all. I wasn’t squealing or anything, but uuuggghhhh their feelings are so “mature.” I love it so much.

also can i just say that I did a happy dance when Hino-san and Mikuri finally met???? :’DDD

OMG I was wondering why the people at the open-air market made a fuss over Hiramasa and Mikuri hugging in public... then I remember that Japanese don't really practice PDA hahaha

their back-and-forth suggestions were really cuuuuttee

BEST SEGMENT EVER (the last one with the darts and monologue and possible future routes)

I’m not so good with pointing out negative stuff about this drama tho. I can see some people being possibly put-off by and frustrated over some stuff happening in some latter eps though, stemming from both characters’ shortcomings? But I don’t think they were overdone though, and the resolution is something to see. I may see the point of those who would criticize this, too.

Not only have the physical characteristics of a Griffin, but the user also can fully transform into a Griffin. The form can only be sustained for a few intervals at a time and requires a lot of energy to maintain. The user also has enhanced strength, hightened senses, and can see up to 60 ft in the dark.

Drawbacks:

The Griffin form is single-minded and more primal than Mikuri is. “Protect (Person) from the villains” can easily be turned into just “Protect (Person) from ALL” if the Griffin feels threatened.

The Griffin form requires a mass amount of energy, so she tends to eat more than the average person daily.

BACKSTORY

Born from Hero Kazuo Hino aka “Wildcat” and Greek singer Selene Laskaris, Mikuri was the firstborn child of the family, Ruka being born two years after her. The family grew up happily together until it was discovered that Kazuo had a brain tumor, and was expecting to not live long. He still kept smiling and providing for his family til his deathbed, when Mikuri promised she’d be a hero like he was. She then dedicated her life to training and went to UA, where Shota and Hizashi were in their last years. She thought that Shota was really cool at first, but had heard the rumors about a friend who had passed away a year prior and felt like he’d see her as her replacing him. Despite trying to stay away, she wound up catching the attention of Nemuri and the two were friends, Nemuri showing her the ropes of surviving UA before graduating. In her second year, she met Ryuko and the two developed a very strong bond that continues to last to this day. When Mikuri finally became a hero, she was a smaller name, but well loved. It wasn’t until she was helping with a building fire did things change. She had already been going through minor paranoia issues at the time, but this incident ended her hero career. Though she had managed to save two falling civilians, Mikuri was unable to catch a third and he died on impact. Mikuri helped pay for the family’s funeral and suffered severe mental distress from the event. Selene and Ruka finally convinced her to stop hero work and Selene found Mikuri work as a model, as she was already well-loved for body positivity. It wasn’t until two years later when her mother came to Japan to be interviewed for “Put Your Hands Up” Radio that she asked Mikuri to join. After the interview, Hizashi recognized Mikuri and Selene suggested that she and the man catch up. Later that week, Mikuri met with Hizashi, Nemuri, and a reluctant Shota to catch up. Shota has actually gotten close with her and even tried to coax her back into the hero world by at least having her teach at UA. Admittedly, it’s working.
