MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Have you ever wondered what life is like for someone like me? Mabuhay! I am J.V. M. Serzo, a 17-year-old man from Tanza, Cavite. A Filipino, a child, a Leo, an honor student, a journalist, a leader, a humanista, and a son of God. I was born on the 25th of July 2005 at Fabella Hospital in Manila. Many people always asked me if my first name is just a two-letter name and I always answered "Yes". They were often shocked about it and teased me that my parents want me to be at ease especially when my teachers ask their students to write our names on a paper back and forth. I am a product of Cavite and certified Caviteño. Many people say that when you are a Caviteño, you are brave and I think they are right. I am brave, I am fierce, and I am confident as what a Caviteño is.
I am the 6th child of Myla Matta, my mom, and Roberto Serzo Jr., my dad. I have 5 siblings namely Erwin, Mhay, Cheska, Ian, and Yna. I am the youngest among the six. When I was young I often fell on our stairs because I always want my favorite bolster to be at my side but because it is too big for me at that time I cannot see the following steps when I am going down so yeah! I fell so hard so many times. So because of this, maybe that is why I'm short. I'm 5 foot and 1 inch tall by the way. However, even though I am not that tall, I always receive compliments from others that I am small but terrible. Thank you to people who always give and tell me some acknowledgments just like it because it boosted my morale and my confidence.
I am a consistent honor student from kinder to the present, in Grade 12. I was one of the top students who always join extracurricular activities and represented our school. Way back in elementary, I was part of the BIGSAYWIT Team of Malagasang 1, and a secretary of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization. I am also a qualifier for the ASEP Quiz Bee and more until Junior High School. And now, I am taking Humanities of Social Sciences at Emilio Aguinaldo College- Cavite and hoping to graduate in June this year.
All of these years in school were never an easy challenge for me. It feels like a roller coaster ride for someone like me. I cried, I laugh, felt proud and disappointed in myself while studying and fighting in the battle called life. But, there is something that my mom always tells me, that I should believe in my capabilities and that I am limitless. This lesson from my mom is embarked in my heart and soul. And every time I face difficulties in my life I always remind myself what my mom told to me.
All the things I have experienced in my 17 years of existence are truly something to be proud of. Now that I am nearly entering college life and will take a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, I already submitted my applications to many universities that have the said program. I applied to UP, UST, PLM, PUP, CVSU-Indang, and EAC. I am hoping to get as well a scholarship so that I can have something to support my study, and to help also my family financially. I know that everything I experienced in my 17 years is not as heavy as what college and the real world can bring to me, and that is why I already collecting faith, trust, and courage to face all the circumstances that will happen to me. I know that with the faith I have in the Lord, he will not let me down. He will be my weapon, my sword, and my power to pursue what I want and achieve the greatest that I could achieve.
Just like what people always tell “Malayo pa pero malayo na” I know that there is nothing that can stop me from getting the greatest that I could be but only me. And, this is also what I want people to learn about me, that we are the leaders of ourselves and we are the authors of our stories.

meet the pristine: isla kensington
A soft voice suitable for an equally soft girl who others say it too nice, it’s suspicious. The yin to her twin brother’s yang, her family’s reputation has always made it difficult for her to have her own identity. But there is nothing fragile about this girl, no.
You are the good girl; the one who never gets in trouble, never does anything to anger your mother and father. You’ve mastered the art of blending into the background at an early age, and let your brother take the centre stage. You’ve been told you have the same potential, but your father’s never really paid attention to anyone but him. There’s no jealousy there, though. You’ve always been satisfied with your place outside any type of limelight.
c o n n e c t i o n s
MANIPULATIVE - The twin brother. He’s always been in the centre of your world– whatever he asked, he got, even from you. You adore him, and worry about him. He’s the one person you would do anything and everything for.  He’s the half of your soul, after all, and that is the one thing that will never change.
DESPONDENT - The ex-something. It was slow-burn, what you two had. You liked his company; liked how he treated you with such care. But he could never understand that you were one half of a whole, and why you were always quick to drop everything whenever your brother came calling.

11/15/18 FIRST DAY OF OJT
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
안녕! Hi everyone~ I'm Rica Mae Guerrero a Culinary Art Student in STI SOUTHWOODS . Today was my first day of on the job training (OJT) at SM Shakeys Sta. Rosa actually it supposed to be yesterday but Mr.Greg (the manager) said that we should fix our self first and he's talking about are uniforms and the way we look because that day we're just wearing a shoes that's not allowed in the kitchen (rubber shoes etc) so me and 2 of my friends just go home and prepare for tomorrow.
Now the day has come ,so we go there before 12 pm and talk to Ms. Mhay (Assistant Manager) for our assign task. She tell to us that the one should be in the dining because the 3 of us can't be in the kitchen (back of house) it's too crowded they only have a small kitchen there. So the one should be in the dining (front of house) and seems that no one wants to go  ㅋㅋ. We're just looking at each other for a minute's  but we back to our senses when Ms.Mhay said that we should decide now so we can start. Then I'd decided to be the one that assign in a front house though I'm not 100% sure if I can do it and I'm envy because my friends are together while me is alone ㅠㅠ.But  Ms.Mhay said that "don't worry it will change after 60 hours ,the one from the kitchen will change your spot " so i can breath normally because the feeling of being not with them the whole 120 hours is making me sad,so I'm okay now after I heard that. Then, I met the kaptain of the front house which is Kap Jazz she tell me everything that I need to know also I met the FS's there and they thought me on how to do bussing, settings up the table and also I try to be in a front desk .I think that's really hard because I have mission to greet the guest and also they're asking me about the menu but I don't even know about that so I always call the FS.
.Then I assign to clean the CR every 30 minutes and when I do that I feel safe because there's no manager,no guest just me .Im afraid of them because they can judge me if I do something wrong so I'll do my best .After that we take a break and we decided to eat in KFC because we don't have free meal . We're just talking there about our first day and after 30 minutes we go back and just continue our assign task. When the clock hits 8:30 it's the sign that are first they had ended. But after we go home we take pictures to staffs and I realized that they are all kind and maybe after the tiring day I can go home with smile because of our bonding.I think I will enjoy the rest of my 120 hours with them.

Two Philippine teams are finalists in global space data competition for COVID-19
Tumblr media
Two teams from the Philippines, GiveSight and World MAQI, are selected by the United States space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), European Space Agency (ESA), and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) as global finalists for the all-virtual Earth Observation Dashboard Hackathon held last June 23-29. With 4,300+ participants from 132 countries and territories, the week-long event featured 233 projects to solve challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic using data from the Earth Observing (EO) Dashboard, an interactive data resource giving policymakers and the public a unique tool to probe the impacts of pandemic-related restrictions implemented around the world through the lens of Earth observation satellites.

GiveSight
The Geo-Intelligent Visualization of Earth Systems in Graphical and Historical Timelines (GiveSIGHT) seeks to improve the current EO dashboard by highlighting significant changes of the COVID-19 pandemic through visualizations and guided insight for prospect users. The proposed dashboard is intended to visualize economic proxies through night lights, economic activities, and lock-down timeline in the Philippines.
The team is led by Gabriel Kristopher "Cricket" Soong, an electrical engineer and emerging technologies consultant, and members include software engineer Mark Barretto and Adamson University computer engineering students Angelica Mhay Salazar, Karl Adrian de Guzman, and Joshua Bungcaras.

Mobility over Air Quality Index
The Mobility over Air Quality Index (MAQI) is derived from the fusion of mobility statistics provided by Google with air pollutants like nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from Earth observations.  While the COVID-19 pandemic initially led to decreased mobility and improved air quality, countries around the world have begun to lift their quarantine restrictions, triggering air pollution once again. Through MAQI, areas and communities with improved mobility and air quality may be identified and recognized.
The team is composed of space data researchers and hackathon veterans. Data analyst Dominic Vincent "Doc" Ligot and data engineer Mark Neil Pascual led the conceptualization and prototype development, while Michael Lance M. Domagas, a computer science Master’s student, reunited with his undergraduate thesis adviser, Arturo "Art" Caronongan III, an assistant professorial lecturer from De La Salle University, to do research and concept validation for MAQI.
Pinoy pride and ingenuity
In 2020, Art Caronongan’s team placed as global finalist in the NASA Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge for Snail Space, an app giving a "safe space" by providing mental care and comfort during times of social isolation brought by COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, Doc’s team developed Advanced Early Dengue Prediction and Exploration Service (Project AEDES) which used Earth observations for data-driven dengue detection and nowcasting, bagging the global award for the best use of data in the prestigious NASA International Space Apps Challenge. Since then, the initiative has garnered more accolades: recognized in 2020 by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) for applying Earth observations towards the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and more recently last May 2021, vetted and approved by the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as a Digital Public Good (DPG), putting the Philippines on the map as a DPG pathfinding pilot country.
A team from CirroLytix Research Services, a Philippine-based startup leading the charge in using big data for social impact founded by Doc, developed Global Impact Detection from Emitted Light, Onset of COVID-19, and Nitrogen Dioxide (GIDEON), a data portal that used satellite data and news feeds to measure economic and social impacts of lockdowns and pandemic interventions. In 2020, GIDEON also won the best use of data global award in the NASA Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge.
Cricket Soong and Mark Pascual are also from CirroLytix, and in late 2020 were Space Apps global nominees for Global Hazard Exposure and Resiliency Trends by Earth observation and Analysis Tools (Global HEARTBEAT), an interactive tool providing geo-located information on natural and human hazards surrounding communities within the Philippines and Canada.
Winners of both space hackathons are invited to visit NASA and partner agencies’ facilities but are responsible for covering their own costs. Although travel has been on hold since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, invitations shall resume once travel is deemed safe.
Michael Lance, a lead local organizer of Space Apps, appeals for support in recognizing these global winners and finalists, "Having both led and participated in these hackathons, I can attest to the world-class quality of our local innovators but sadly support for these innovators has been minimal. In the same way we Filipinos love to cheer our athletes and beauty queens who represent our country, I hope we can find value in supporting our Philippine technologists, who also bring our country pride through their innovation.”
EO dashboard hackathon winners shall be announced in early August 2021.

Happy happy Friday! Last week was party week and this week was recovery and productivity, but it was still good. I swam a lot, in both the ocean and the pool, which has me feeling pretty good in both body and soul. The only thing is that I haven’t been writing at all and it’s bumming me out. I think I just need to work on better time management and getting used to my new schedule, but I really miss writing and want to make progress on my book. On a positive note though, I’m going out of town this weekend to relax in my favorite place in the world and maybe it will be an opportunity to get the creative juices flowing. I guess we’ll see!
ANYWAY, on with the show: here are five things I’m into this week!
1. Stak Ceramics on Etsy
How cute and handy are these pieces? I love the utensil holder/tablet stand. I haven’t been cooking a ton lately but when I do I almost always use my iPad to look at recipes. This is a definite need for my future home!
2. Luke Temple’s A Hand Through the Cellar
  https://open.spotify.com/album/0GJW2NbieCxRZNtSjSbRPS?si=4meBu0GDQuyR0TIWaTlsCw
I was caught off guard by how much I loved this album. It’s old-fashioned and ballad-y in a way that artists tend to shy away from in favor of more cryptic and metaphorical lyrics, and it really works. Maryanne Was Quiet, in particular, took my breath away.  It’s  unflinching and sensitive without being overly romantic, and I think that describes the whole album.
3. This dress from Amazon
Buying clothes on Amazon is always a bit of a crap shoot (READ THE REVIEWS, PEOPLE) but I got really lucky with this dress! It’s so comfy and it fits perfectly and I kind of want it in every color. It’s ordered the pink, and it’s more of a bright bubblegum than I expected, but you know what? Maybe I needed that in my life. You don’t know.
4. Mhai Art
I stumbled upon her painting of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider on Twitter and then totally fell down the rabbit hole of her art on Tumblr. How adorable is the little honey girl? And that drawing (Painting? Rendering? I don’t understand art) of Merlin??? BE STILL MY HEART.
5. This Tweet
https://twitter.com/Alonzo_Creed/status/1016510406158901249
I hope everybody gives and receives some good burrito love this weekend. See you next time!
