How did the United States influence the Mexican Revolution?
#UnitedStates #influence #MexicanRevolution #FranciscoMadero #PorfirioDiaz
The Mexican Revolution began when widespread dissatisfaction began to spread amongst the masses after then President Porfirio Diaz created a set of policies that were favorable towards land owners industrialists. The spark for the revolution occurred when Francisco Madero, who announced he would challenging Diaz’s presidency was jailed by Diaz. Madero was eventually released from prison and…

Day 10: Historical Romance
I chose the Mexican Revolution as the historical period for Day 10 of SasuHina month because it is one of the most complicated, yet fascinating events in world history. In this AU, Sasuke is a teen who joins the Revolution for revenge after "government pigs" slaughter his family in a raid. Hinata comes from a wealthy family and joins the Revolution after hearing Francisco Madero's rhetoric of "effective suffrage, no reelection" and wants the less fortunate to receive equality and after her sister Hanabi is abducted by the government to bribe her family.
Spoiler alert: they fall in love but die because no one except the government wins the Revolution.
Viva la Revolución!

• Women's History Month: ✴️ Frida Kahlo ✴️ 🥀PART 2 of 3🥀 Kahlo was fiercely liberal, joining the Mexican Communist Party as a young woman. Though actually born 3 years previously, she named 1910 - the start of the Mexican Revolution - as her birth year, and referred to herself as a 'daughter of the revolution'. This may have been political, or to conceal her age; at 6 years old, polio kept her from starting school with her peers. Instead, she spent this time with her father, whose own academic career had ended early due to illness. Alongside the very unladylike pursuit of sport, he encouraged her interest in his own profession: photography. Early portraits of Kahlo reveal a defiant young woman dressed 'as a man'. Although concealing her polio-affected right leg may have been an influence, contextually, this was undeniably bold behaviour. Along with her open bisexuality & adultery - her claimed list of lovers includes singers, artists, and politically interested individuals as diverse as Leon Trotsky and Josephine Baker - this put Kahlo on the feminist map in the 1980s & 90s. She was surrounded by political and emotional turmoil, through revolution and illness. She was bold and defied norms, dressing and loving against society's expectations. Check out tomorrow's post to see how this early environment and experience lead to the artwork that it did, and why it's arguably gothic! 📸: Via Flashbak.com . #generallygothic #gothic #womenshistory #womenshistorymonth #frida #fridakahlo #feminism #sexism #art #arthistory #popicon #mexico #artist #womeninhistory #womeninart #painter #blackandwhite #mexicanrevolution #leontrotsky #trotsky #josephinebaker #genderpolitics #feministicon #crossdressing #gendernorms #politics #blackandwhitephotography #portraiture #disability #disabilityawareness https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvxcg1wHKW9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=iglflv0zlp4s

North America 104 years ago today: Occupation of Veracruz (20 Aug 1914) https://omniatlas.com/maps/northamerica/19140820/ In 1913, General Huerta had seized power in Mexico in a bloody coup, much to the dislike of the US government (although with the unauthorized backing of the US ambassador). When Mexican forces temporarily arrested some US sailors at Tampico a year later, the US disregarded a Mexican apology and retaliated by occupying the major port of Veracruz until Huerta had been overthrown. #northamerica #history #welovemaps #map #1910s #1914 #americanhistory #august #august20 #tampico #mexicanhistory #mexico #panama #panamacanalzone #usa #unitedstates #mexicanrevolution #veracruz #worldwari #maps #canada #panchovilla #revolution #imperialism #zapata (at Veracruz)

Frida-Kahlo, “Henry Ford Hospital”, Oil On Canvas, 30.5x 38 cm, 1932. Courtesy Dolores Olmedo Collection, Mexico City, Mexico. In “Henry Ford Hospital”, Kahlo deals directly with her own mortality and her inability to have children. Kahlo dealt directly with death her entire life. At the age of three the Mexican Revolution started, bringing here up in a world fraught with gunfights and banditos. At six years old, she was struck down by polio, which left one leg thinner than the other. She also witnessed many street fights between Mexican revolutionaries while studying in college. Finally, when she was 18, she was involved in a tragic bus accident, which left many people dead. Kahlo was injured so seriously that she suffered severe pain for the rest of her life, and she was never able to have a child with her husband, Diego Rivera. #surrealism #diegorivera #frida #fridakahlo #primitiveart #art #contemporaryart #modernart #masterpiece #arte #artemoderna #painting #mexico #mexicanart #avantgarde #pittura #artlovers #artaddict #mexicanrevolution https://www.instagram.com/p/B7k_rAXIrjR/?igshid=157ynnz180ljy

Ambrose Bierce killed by Poncho Villa?
Ambrose Bierce may have been killed by Poncho Villa about this time in 1914 during the Mexican Revolutionary War. He is considered one of the only major authors of the Civil War genre to have first-hand knowledge as a soldier. https://americanliterature.com/author/ambrose-bierce
