arthur repealing the ban on magic and sitting merlin and morgana down to figure out who is going to be court sorcerer and ready to mediate a debate but before morgana can even open her mouth, merlin passes to position onto her. arthur and morgana just stare, morgana makes feeble attempts to spark an argument, to instigate merlin to at least fight for it. even arthur is like “…you don’t even want, like, a room or something for your magic work?? none of the perks?? a different position in the court?????” and merlin’s just like “nope! i’m good!” and morgana and arthur exchange a look before arthur asks why. merlin’s answer is that his position, where he belongs, is at arthur’s side. besides. morgana deserves it. she was snubbed from becoming queen so it was only fair.

I love the idea of a Tangled/Rapunzel Merlin AU (Arthur as Rapunzel) but that begs the question… is Morgana Mother Gothel??

It would make sense if she’s like an ancient witch who keeps herself young (like the movie) but I just think it’s so much funnier if 3 year old Morgana kidnapped her half brother, maybe hoping to keep him safe? Like she just picked him up one night and walked out of the city and her magic led them to the tower.

Don’t ask me what happens after that because idk I just like the imagery lol

I fell down the "lemme just look up this one (1) thing real quick" rabbit hole and I feel God in this Chili's tonight bc GWEN.

Gwen is more or less her dad's assistant, right? And he's a blacksmith (tech. a bladesmith if he be making high-quality Excalibur-level blades, but whatever) right?

And do you know what job a blacksmith's assistant has? A striker. Wherein the boss, which would be my man Tom, holds the piece steady, espec. with jobs that would require two pieces of metal to be evenly joined, and the striker's job is exactly what it sounds like. They're supposed to strike the metal. With a goddamn sledgehammer.

I refuse to believe Gwen was anything other than fucking Jacked, and I would have paid Real Dollars to see her being 'meh' with a sword (she makes them, she doesn't use them) but when a fight goes down she's like, "....anyone got a hammer I can borrow?"

Like, godDAMN BBC, if you're gonna make a character a blacksmith, then fuckin COMMIT.

I always think of this scene and the feast with Sarrum in conjunction.

Arthur seems betrayed over and over again by Morgana, like every time is the first time, because it feels like the first time to him

He’s always had the uncanny ability to stand up for her in court, behind Uther’s back for sure, but he had made her a priority when she showed up at his door

And on his trips. And for his counsel. And at his battles. Wherever she invited herself along, he would make the effort to see her, and value her input, like she was equally as important as an advisor even as a cast-off ward, or however much a nobody the rest of the court perceived her- ‘high strung’ and valuable only to look at

…He would think of her, and her well-being, constantly

Even if he had to smile through the pain and lift his goblet at Sarrum, even if he had to put up the pretense of not caring

Just like he said in ‘Lancelot and Guinevere’ - “my Father is right Morgana” when she had begged him for help publicly

But afterwards, when he retires to his chambers, he would put on his armor for Morgana

Take up his sword and shield

And believe her

Even if he must do it in secret…

And that’s what makes this scene all the more heartbreaking to me, because yes, appearances can be deceiving

And he had his friends and family fooled all along, if they believed he had ever stopped loving her
