first time listening to superpowereds year 1! welcome to the live blog, to be updated as i get through it.
I'm listening to the graphic audio version, if that matters.
Let's begin, I'm starting the liveblog on chapter 4 because I figured it was a good idea to document it. Also, it's a slow work day. Sue me.
First chapter is good at getting me intrigued. I have to say Vince is a solid protagonist, and his VA is fun. I just imagine him as a silver haired Miles Morales, 12fps and all. I'm intrigued with Nick because I goddamn love these types of characters. (If you've ever seen me tag stuff for Ike, you'd know.) I heard Nick and I'm immediately like, Nick Furcillo from supermassive games' The Quarry? Pretty hair, pretty face, and praying that's all you notice kind of boy. Tboy swag detected as well, I may just be projecting a little for him tho. Herschel... oh, I pick him up in my ARMS. I have a thing for the sweethearts, I really do, and I have a character that's kind of similar to him (always left to clean up the messes). The dynamic of him and Roy is. Well, it's sure a hell of a thing. Speaking of Roy, holy shit dude, chill. I get it, though, he's the literal representative of ego, blah blah- stop bullying your headmate>:/. MARY. Mary I am going to stare at you. Oh my god. I love weirdgirls. They have such swag. Hyper powerful weirdgirls? be still my beating heart. And, Aelwyn Aberna- I mean, Alice Adair... She's cool. I like the mean girl archetype. It's a vibe. I hope she goes feral like Regina George becoming a jock.
Okay, onto the actual plot.
Okay, it's a program to turn Powereds into Supers. I got that from my dad's summary and the back of the book. Cool.
Nick gave me vibes from the start. Why are you like this. I can tell you're sad, weirdo. Vince having clothes and a bed and being weirded out by it is heart wrenching. I didn't get what Herschel's deal was when I first listened so I just sort of accepted the Shifter thing. Alice is neat, Mary is weird. Cool. I've got the dynamic.
Combat training! That's typical, the placements make sense but the rule of five and the not being able to challenge the top five is... Weird? I guess the rule makes sense but not the waiting until the end of the year thing.
New side character, Sasha Foster. Speedster. Roommates with a Julia? Fun. Punky vibe. That's fun. She's into Vince, that's neat.
I'm skipping around a little because again, starting this late
Wow, Roy is a cunt and a half. That mf is friends with Mitch (NPCs) in another universe, I can feel it. Lmao, get stronger without your powers is his arc. Got it. Solid.
Did he... Charm someone into getting him into the bar? Does he have a fake ID JUST FOR HIMSELF? Insane.
Goddamn, going back to Casino night for a second, obsessed with the weird mind games of Nick and Mary. Like. He's so fucking weird. What's with his journaling? Why'd he delete it? The fucking sunglasses??? Is this some kind of fucking Mr. Spender moment (shout out to the 1 other Drew Hayes/Paranatural fan, who I am pretty sure does not follow this blog).
Poor Hersch and the damn mornings after. I hope he gets to be liked by someone genuinely.
Okay, back to chapter 4, will report back with thoughts.
Vince is awkward. We love this. Graphic audio funneled kiss noises directly into my ears. Disgusting.
Roy plans to fuck him up but hail mary, it's Mary. And she thinks Hersch is nice, so she's threatening Roy. Good for her. Holy shit, by the way, she's so scary. I'm in love for real. I just see her in my brain as kinda Allison Reynolds, kinda Lydia Deetz, kinda Eleven in terms of aesthetics, but she's Rose Lalonde in scaring the fuck out of people. God bless.
Wouldn't Herschel being officially classed as Super mean he has control over Roy appearing? Why isn't he forcing Roy into going/taking control when he doesn't do what's best for the host body? Anyway. Roy has a challenge now, let's see how this goes.
Chad stomped him, as I heard in the audio sample. Fuckin nice.
Midterm, huh? Okay. Twenty page paper and an ethics project. Interesting. Pairs? Nick and Alice, lmao. I think they're bitey at each other. That's hilarious.
Vince and Will. Cool! Everest is their project.
Hersch and... Alex the Jedi! Okay cool. The more I listen to Alex talk the more I'm like *Donald?*
Nick and Alice are fun. Love that there's jazzy music whenever Nick's brain is in focus.
Will has a twin, Jill. Wow. Okay fun. Will is a support member! Neat.
Jill vs Sasha. Sasha wins! Speedster makes sense. Fast healing, probably? Decent recovery.
Chess again. Hersch is getting better. Nice. Herschel is her rook, Vince is her bishop, Alice is her knight, and Nick is her king. Obviously, she's queen. Alice is so interesting. I hope they become girl best friends.

AHA HE DOES HAVE A FAKE!! GOD. Alice is going to make plans. She has decided it. She has DECIDED it. Shut up, Nick, you *know* you wanna go to Halloween with her. Nerd ass.
Nick, flippantly, in the beginning of the book: Mary I have /trust issues/
Nick, upon realizing she was taking that as a personal project: well fuck me running.
Alice... Oh my god nobody's ever stood UP for her. She likes Mary!
Back to studying. Nick and Alice. Yeah. They have this "I know you"/"I refuse to be known" dynamic that flows both ways. They're getting together I'm calling it. Calling it!
Globe, huh? Big traitor? Alice's father is his old teammate? Fuckin SWAG
Alice is opening up? Nick is doing it in return? Fucking knew he didn't have parents tho. Motherless behavior, Nicky.
Defective? Oh, Alice...
Movie night. Uh. Will and Jill, Sasha and Vince. Uh. Zombie movies. Video store? When is this fucking set ???

Nick's got some fuckin eyes. I know he does. I don't know what's wrong with them but this Strider mother fucker ain't flying under my radar.
Oh shit, okay, Michael is gonna attack Vince outside. That's not a blatant use of his power or anything. Feels...weird man.
Nick is being a hilarious wingman. Pft. "You realize there's no girls in earshot, right?" "yea them hoes be shutting us down." Wild.
Thomas? Okay, new guy shut this shit down. He's cool. He's a stickler. That's important for later.
Alice would be friends with Adaine Abernant. God. I love her. Autism wins again.
CHAD IS GLOBES KID? yep.
Coach wants to talk to Vince. I looove this. Scared of his own strength. Poor bishop. He has the Eyes! The Paladin Eyes! I say a lot about DH character archetypes but that man makes paladins I want to *love*. I've never met a paladin by him I DIDN'T love.
Vince's dad went to this school? Cool.
Updates to the Dean from Numbers.
Edit to add I think my last addition got deleted. Whatever. Started Nick's backstory flash. It's official, I love the cynic. Happens every time.

I am not a fan of the Argus rifle. Just used it on a Silver match, and I ended up on the bottom of the scoreboard because it took me 9 waves to figure out how to compensate for the recoil. Maybe I should change the rifle mods.

One thing I like about Firebase Reactor hazard map is that one box in Section D1. The one that enemies tend to get stuck on sometimes when they spawn. If you bring a Banshee there and stand by a corner, she sometimes teleports on top and can't move. You have to be careful not to move too close to its edges so that she doesn't drop off, but sometimes you can use it to either neutralize her as a threat or make her target practice. Sometimes she drops right out of the map and registers as a kill, but only if you shoot at or used tech/biotics at her a few times before trapping her there. I've had to deal with a few pesky Banshees that way. Especially when doing an objective wave, and especially when I save one for last. I haven't tried it too often on the standard Firebase Reactor map, but I tend to find that the chances of it happening on the hazard map is higher. Can't do it more than twice though. It gets smarter, starts to predict that move. Teleports the long way round.

Part three! We're finishing the listen today. I feel it.

That siren made everyone too chill and Nick is paranoid about it until he can't be anymore. Alice is SO down bad.
She's lost in the woods, somewhere in South Cali and she's never gonna make it to LA-- lmao.
"I have you trapped here and you're gonna *talk*." They're so dysfunctionally cute. Nick is trying to lie his way out of Alice's brain. Gaslight gatekeep girlboss, king.
"You had to invent a whole new me to be attracted to me!" Nick you like her back oh my god. THEY'RE MAKING OUT IN THE WOODS. i fucking knew it.

Stella v Roy, this is maybe the funniest mid-fight dialogue. He's just a down home classic southern gentleman, I get it lmao. I knew that would end like that with fuckin what's her names pheromones in the air.
Back to school. Lmao, somebody glaciered (Michael). Alice is putting on the fucking moves.
Vince gets extra training, neat. Sparks close up, fire long range. Fun!

Finals prep. Okay, makes sense to have the week off. Can't imagine how poor Chad is coping. He must miss it. Nick has an eidetic memory question mark? Or just a very good one. That's pretty neat. Threat evaluation is solid stuff.
Roy v Stella again! They're buddies in battle! And Violet is there too, she weakens people iirc?

Okay. Nick is in, decidedly not an incompetent asshole by his own word. All of the people from The Company are named like those books. Insanity but very funny. Mr. Move, Ms. Tracker?

Mary got free, nabbed George, and Vince fucking drained him. Avatar style. Well, that was a hell of a battle. But who were the coaches working for? I figured there had to be a draw for sequels SOMEWHERE.
They don't have to take finals? Pog.
Mary and Alice together, Nick alone. And of course, Mrs. Daniels has decided Vince is her son now! I'm happy about it. Hersch gets another brother! Nice!
Persephone is working with some people trying to, I'm assuming, stop Powereds from infiltrating the ranks of Supers. And Vince's father- his biological one, obviously, - is one of them. Inchresting... I wonder who of the Big Five or whatever he is.

It took me awhile, but I figured out how to shoot the rockets from the Geth out of the sky.
Ignore the white clouds trailing behind it, hit the black dot.
I know that sounds like a shitpost, but I swear that’s how you do it. The black dot is the rocket itself and if you hit it with your gun’s ammo you’ve shot it out of the air.
Mind, this takes a ridiculous amount of practice to do deliberately rather than by accident like I do, but do what you will with this information.

so i finished my first ever me1 renegade playthrough and it was p intense all around. the only part i felt rly bad about was telling conrad verner to fuck off 3 separate times like omg i’m worried he’s gonna try to kill me in me2. it wasn’t a “true renegade” playthrough though i went with some paragon options esp when the alternative was xenophobic comments yikes i’ll never pick those and also when talking to liara and i just could Not bring myself to kill wrex like……nah fam i can’t do it but i managed to fill the renegade bar up without having to do that so we good we good

So Nick grew up in what, a mob casino? Wild! Insane.
Party for finals, held by upperclassmen. Cool.
PRESENTATION GUEST SPEAKER EH? a powered. Interesting. I get what Dean Blaine is trying to do but holy fuck, Nick is so paranoid. Like I get it, literally raised tht way whatever, but goddamn. Get this kid some Sertraline.
Party time! Nice to see Hersch out and about. I love that he's tapping Roy's memories for all the partying. As soon as someone starts pursuing Herschel and not Roy, I have a feeling Hersch is going to take on that "nerd that gets a TON but nobody understands why he does" stereotype. I'm not going to complain if it happens.
Fuckin. Is whiskey one of Roy's triggers? That's hilarious. God, having a cowboy brother/headmate is hilarious.
Alex clocks Nick having fun, partyboys Herschel and Nick content WHEN.

The foley for this production is immense. The movie in the background of Numbers and Transport is good. I wonder what the lesson was. It's early, I'll probably get it later.
Alright, so we've got combat/alternative placings! Vince, Mary, and Herschel into combat, Nick and Alice into alt iirc?

I had the system explained to me prior so I knew the whole "competing against past years" thing. That's wild, but it makes sense. They'd just try again anyway, might as well streamline the process. Ten spots for graduation, huh? I hope at least a couple of the Melbrook kids make it. I'm not expecting them to, but maybe I've just read too much Wildbow. He left his protagonists fate up to a dice roll. Nobody is safe over there.
Into combat and alt training. Holy shit, listening to Nick have a fucking seizure was delightful I mean, so crazy. Hell yes, alt training, that's where I'd want to go.

Parents weekend? Ooh. Tfw only two people in your dorm have parents that care. Sasha is so cute. I hope she doesn't die or something.

Nick is playing into his avoidant streak, thinking he's going to make Alice hate him when really she's just going to get jealous. Wild play. It's Bubbles! She's cute. Poor thing is gonna get her heart broken.
Here's the point where I got into the car so imma speed summarize.
Alice getting a surprise birthday party was adorable! The Melbrooks really went all out and I'm glad, she deserves it. I was so wowed by Nick's gift that I audibly said "this is so cute I'm going to puke". What else... Vince has some sort of sexual trauma, inchresting. Ranged practice was before that and I? Am just so. Hmm, about Nick's upbringing. Three? You learned to shoot at three? I knew he was faking immediately, it reminded me of the scene in spiderverse where Miles gets every answer wrong on purpose. Vince cast chain lightning. Michaels got a drinking and ego problem.
Anyway, it's lake trip time. My impending sense of doom is building. Something is going to go wrong, I can feel it. There's no way finals will come THAT easy.
