1. 1. Hii, if it isn't too much hassle and if you're still taking asks, i have a question about a fic i think has been deleted? I'm not sure.

A) It goes like this : Nie Huisang goes back in time, and he gets his brother to bring a young, severely malnourished Wei Ying and is trying to keep him from being sent to Yunmeng ( he kept intercepting his brother's letters to Yunmeng to let them know about Wei Ying). And he has this idea that if he gets Wei ying to believe he is an ugly child (malnourished ++) and that everybody will love him for him and not his skills.

I had it in my bookmarks but i think it was recently deleted? If you have any idea please lmk 🙏 i've lost too many fics this way.

B) There is another fic that's been deleted? a while ago. Wei ying had to wear a mask and was told to never reveal his face. He was married to Lan zhan in an arranged marriage but then Lan Zhan was supposedly forced to marry Wen Qing? Wei ying ended up adopting A-yuan and his twin brother.

Idk if i remember correctly (if it's the same fic) but the last chapter i read Wei Ying had to be forced through a sort of cleansing from demonic cultivation and he basically almost died bleeding ( he told lan zhan he was the one he trusted to do it). I think in the chapter count only one or two chapters were left till the end of the fic.

3. Firstly I have to say that I love this blog! It's keeping my To Be Read pile very well stocked! 😁

Secondly, there is a fic I found on AO3 around a year ago and no matter what tags I try I just can't find it!

What I remember is that it is modern with cultivation, married WangXian, and that it's the beginning of an apocalypse where loads of people have been turned into puppets. It was supposed to be blamed on WWX but, coincidentally, he falls ill just before the start and couldn't possibly have done it.

Iirc the apocalypse lasts for about a week and turns out to have been caused by something contaminating the water supply with JGS and/or JGY behind it.

It might start with something like "On the first day of the end of the world…"

20. Hello again! I've been trying to find two fics for weeks and just can't seem to find them. A) One was an arranged marriage between lan zhan and wei ying that was set up by the jins; wei ying was never part of the jiang and he had some funky death stuff going on in the burial mounds, and took in the wens. The jin made both the wens and the Lans think the other was going to attack and that's why they did the marriage. B) The other fic has wei ying and lan zhan getting together but keeping it secret; I don't remember much, just that in trying to save the wens, jiang change tries to marry wen Qing and madam yu gets pissed off and says that since it was wei yings idea, he should marry her. Wei ying is later crying to lan zhan because both of them know it's the only option they have to save them, so he'll do it. Lan xichen comes across them and realizes they're in a relationship, and decides to marry wen qing himself to fix it - later lan zhan and wei ying reveal their relationship. So sonce Wukong is heavily associated with he earth and especially FFM, what if the mountain itself changes to fit Wukong's emotional and physical health? Like when he's sad, depressed, or hopeless it becomes more barren and cold, when he's hurt the earth itself cracks and plants wither and die, whe he's happy it's lush, warm, and beautiful like depicted in the show! It doesn't instantly change of course but slowly, the longer the time Wukong is in a certain mood, the more it affects the mountain. That'd also why the monkeys, who have EVERY reason to be distrustful of a stranger on the mountain considering literally everything in the book, are so quick to warm up to and welcome MK and his family into their midst! Because they make Wukong happy!

Ooo this is such a cool idea.

Wukong being basically the Te Fiti of Flower Fruit Mountain and the surrrounding country of Alolai.

When he ws young and unsure, the islands bloomed with new haphazard shoots and flowers.

When he jumped through the waterfall the first time, the rains came and watered the parched fruit trees.

When he travelled onto the mainland and trained with Sudbodhi, the air became heavy with the winds of his travels - A certain Macaque amongst the troop able to hear where exactly their King was based on how he sang to the breeze. Soon the skies became full of fluffy clouds so thick you could nearly walk (or rather Sommersault on them). It was one of the few joys his people appriciated whilst under the threat of the Demon King of Havoc/Confusion.

The night before the King returned, a great thunder rain occurred - startling all of them awake. A thunder of sadness and anger. But when their King landed home and cut the Demon's head in half with his new powers - the sun shined upon the island once more.

When the Brotherhood was made and friendships forged, the mountain bloomed with new life. Spider lilies flourished in the time the King had been whisked away to the Underworld, and lotus flowers sprang forth upon his return.

When their king lost himself as an attendant of Heaven, the waters in the streams became stale like a horse through, and fruits shrivelled on the branches like they had been dried for a dessert.

Oddly enough, when their King made havoc in Heaven; the most that the mountain experienced was a sudden unseasonable bloom of peach blossoms that dripped a heady dew.

When Sun Wukong was defeated and captured for the Furnance... the mountain Burned.

For 49 days straight.

They at first blamed the war god Erlang that had bested their King in the first place, but he and the rest of the brothers of Meishan rallied to save as many monkey yao as possible from the flames and the subsequent floods of murky ash.

When the Monkey King burst forth from the Trigram Furnace, it sent a volley of burning charcoal comets down to earth. Including onto the Stone Place itself.

And when the Buddha was forced to raise his hand? The island stagnanted.

For 500 years the razed island could not grow more than grass and ferns. No more fruits or flowers bloomed. The water was bitter and black with charcoal. And whats more, humans from the mainland beyond had discovered that the country of Alolai was ripe for the picking...

When their King returned once more at the helm of a fight with his religious master, the island rained for the first time in centuries. As he struck down each and every hunter he found, and saved and returned as many as his people as he could, the island seemed to Revive with the scent of blossoms and peaches.

When he left to rejoin his Pilgrim friends, the fruits and flowers still came, now just less sweet.

His subjects knew immediately knew when something terrible had happened with their King years on. The winds stopped blowing as if a switch had been struck. Stone fruit trees crumbled into dust as if they were diseased. The waters of the streams became salted as if with tears... it took a long time for the island to return to some normalcy after that. Though the plum trees never returned, no matter how ardent the efforts of those who keep mountains orchards.

A great bloom of golden flowers and fruits occurred the day their King had reached the home of the Buddha. The rush of life announced via a clap of thunder. The monkeys of the island hooted and sung for weeks at their King's return.

Many years later, fire broke out on the mountain's peak. Their King returned home with a haunted look upon his face but gave no explaination. They began to see less and less of the Western Horse-Dragon after that day... soon the fruits and waters became stale once more. The only flowers that bloomed were ones of mourning.

On a day, after many of arficially sweetened waters adn fruits, a great aurora of golden and purple lights broke forth in the skies above the island - distracting the King's subject long enough that they missed his wonder and conflict at finding a little stone monkey much like himself. The clouds rained heavy with seawater in the days to come.

And on the day a certain child appeared, the sun shone a hue so beautiful and happy that the subjects of the island just knew someone dear to the King had returned.

The plum trees returned some time afterwards, though the fruits were a little sour. They became sweet once more in the year after.

You know what? We need more crazy-about-her-sibs!JYL! Her babying her brothers after a hard battle, making mile long lists of how best to take care of them to send along to CR for their summer classes, her having much stricter requirements as to what their partners should be. We always talk about her brother’s codependency but we need to go more into hers for them.

I love this, but imo-- people wish Yanli made lists. People wish she interrogated their potential spouses. But no.

What happens is, the boys come back from like, a week in Meishan with mom's side of the family, and one of the cousins is describing the amazing dinner they had one night and Yanli's just softly like "oh..."

And the cousin's like, "Oh no, what?"

And Yanli's like "No, no, it's nothing at all really... just, you said you had osmanthus cakes, and the boys really prefer water chestnut cakes... I'm sure it was fine though, I'm sure they had plenty to eat anyway.........."

Today is jiang yanli' birthday and I really wanted to do something for her! But I've no time, so this part of one of my whip will do.

As soon as she had awakened, Jiang Yanli had cried out, "A-Xian! A-Cheng!" But she had been on a bed in Meishan, not on a battlefield with a sword piercing her throat.

"Maiden Jiang," one of the Yu servants had stepped in, looking worried. "It was just a dream," the woman had said.

Jiang Yanli had looked at her, unable to stop sobbing. Then she had stood up and headed for Grandmother Yu.

The woman, in the throne room, seeing her in such a state, crying and dressed in her night robes, had frowned, "Yanli! What's going on? This behavior is not befitting a maiden!"

"Grandmother, Grandmother!!! Please listen to me! Please... Lotus Pier..."

"What are you babbling about? Speak plainly!"

Jiang Yanli had swallowed, wiping away her tears, trying to gather her thoughts, and as was about to open her mouth again, a messenger with blood-soaked clothes had entered, "Sect Leader Yu!"

"What bad news now?" Grandmother Yu had barked.

The messenger had revealed a letter and said, "This is for Maiden Jiang.”

Jiang Yanli hadn’t recognized the man, but his clothes were Jiang's. And they were stained with blood. Fearing the worst, Jiang Yanli had reached out and grabbed the letter with trembling hands.

The message, written in her brother's familiar handwriting, was short and to the point: ‘We are under attack. The former leaders are dead. Sister, I ask for your assistance!’

Crying, one hand covering her mouth, Jiang Yanli had shown the letter to Grandmother Yu.

"Grandmother! Please! Please, help my brother!" Jiang Yanli had begged in a quivering voice.

Grandmother's eyes had widened, her hand gripping the letter tightly, "Ziyuan!” She had muttered, her eyes shining.

Immediately, the woman had regained her composure and cleared her throat. "You, get ready! We are leaving for Lotus Pier!" She had barked, and everyone had carried out the order.

"You, Yanli, stay here, safely. I'll be back soon," and so, the woman had marched out of the room.

Jiang Yanli had watched her go, clutching the letter to her heart; then she had run back to her room, her heart beating wildly. She had no idea what the matter was, or why she had been there.

She had wondered: ‘Am I the only one?’

She had looked at the letter, then gone over to the window and lifted it up. As Jiang Yanli had looked at it in the light of the counter, she had noticed some words. Her heart had skipped a beat: this was the way she and her brother had communicated when she lived in Lanling, and Jiang Cheng wanted to tell her something confidential...

‘A-jie, then you also remember,’ the letter began. Jiang Yanli had stifled a sob.

She had gone through the letter several times, unable to make out the words due to the tears, as well as the inability to believe the information it contained.

Her brother had told her about everything that had happened since the day she had died: A-Xian’s death, A-Ling, the golden core’s transfer, Jin Guangyao, and so on.

‘A-jie, forgive me. In the end, it was all my fault,' the letter concluded.

Jiang Yanli had cried in despair, clutching the letter to her heart. "No, it was all my fault," she had sobbed into the empty room.

In the end, wiping away her tears, Jiang Yanli had gotten up, taken what she needed, and persuaded one of the Yu cultivators to take her to Lotus Pier.

WIP Wednesday

“Wei Wuxian,” Wen Zhuliu called. “Do you have water?” A moment of dumbfounded silence greeted him, and then, “I wouldn’t give you piss to drink after what you did to my brother.” “I’m not asking you for water,” Wen Zhuliu said. “I’m asking if you have water. You had nothing when we brought you here. I assume you are damaged, as am I. You have no core. You must be thirsty.” “Why the fuck would you give me water?” “I have drunk the water I can reach. I… cannot feel my legs. I cannot bend to reach them. I have enough for both of us in a qiankun pouch on my ankle. Neither of us will survive without water. I also have food. My cultivation can work at healing me, or it can sustain me through inedia, but it cannot do both.” “I could kill you. I should kill you.” “I thought you wanted me to suffer.” “I could come there and take your food and water and leave you to die.” “You could. You might well be justified in doing so.” At that, Wei Wuxian laughed, a manic, pained cackle. “Might? You know what you did to Jiang Cheng, to Lotus Pier, was monstrous.” A moment of silence, then a mutter of, “Ah, A-Cheng, why did you have to go back to Lotus Pier for them? Why?” “Go back? Jiang Wanyin was captured far from Lotus Pier. Our forces brought him there.” “What.” There was a shuffling, dragging sound, punctuated by turns with dull thuds and involuntary pained gasps. The dim light got larger, slowly, and resolved into the tear-streaked, filthy, bloody, drawn face of Wei Wuxian. His hair hung in shaggy mats around his face, and his clothes were torn. He jabbed a wicked looking sword into the ground and used it to drag himself toward Wen Zhuliu. The light came from a wan talisman, marked with blood. The resentment around the sword was even thicker than the resentment in the air, in fact, much of the resentment around them seemed to come directly from it. “What is that?” Wen Zhuliu asked, nodding at the sword and then wincing as some pulled muscle in his neck protested. “First tell me what you mean. I thought Jiang Cheng went back to Lotus Pier for his parents.” Wen Zhuliu started to shake his head, then thought better of it and said, “No, he was captured in Meishan. He actually yelled at the soldiers, they said. They’d thought they’d seen someone of interest but he was more important, so they went after him and brought him to Wen Chao in Lotus Pier.” It should not have been possible for Wei Wuxian’s face to grow paler, but it did. “I was there,” Wei Wuxian said, almost inaudibly quiet. “Buying medicine for our sister.” “Wen Chao directed me to destroy his core,” Wen Zhuliu said. “But I never touched yours. You have no core now. How?” “Nope,” Wei Wuxian said, and pulled himself closer. “Which ankle?”

I don't normally do these but I just so happen to have this this week. Does it have a title? No. Do I know where it's going? Only a little. Am I rubbing my mitts together over the idea of wwx dragging wzl into the burial mounds and them having to work together in a enemies-to-bodyguard Situation which will cause Problems for literally everyone?

Just imagine the crossover of modao and the supernatural

Wei Wuxian's parents die while hunting and their friend takes him in. Jiang Fengmian and his wife Yu Ziyuan raise little Wuxian with their son Jiang Chen, teaching them how to hunt and kill monsters. Yu Ziyuan is from a family of hunters, and Jiang Fengmian is from an enlightened family. Having matured, Jiang Chen and Wei Wuxian begin to hunt on their own and one day, returning home, they find only the dead bodies of their parents. Their sister Jiang Yangli is currently helping her grandparents at Meishan Yu's bar, as no one wanted her to be a huntress. The brothers begin their hunt for monsters trying to track down the killers of their parents. As a result of the investigation, they learn that the killer was the special children of the yellow-eyed demon Wen Ruohao, Wen Chao and Wang Lingjiao. They try to kill them, but only find out that Jiang Chen must also be Wen Ruohan's child, since he has his blood in him. They also meet other special children, Wen Qing, who can heal, and her regular brother, Wen Ning. In the end, Jiang Chen dies at the hands of Wen Zhuliu, a demon subordinate to Wen Ruohan, who ripped out his heart. Wei Ying makes a deal with the demon and resurrects his brother, and he himself remains for a year in the world of the living, and after that the hellish dogs take him to hell. He is resurrected by heaven and now the angel Lan Wangji joins the company of the brothers, who does not understand people at all and now walks next to the brothers with his stone face.

And the moment when Wei Wuxian became the master of the dark arts, this is the moment with the seal of Cain

sizhui is a wen by blood, so technically he isnt blood related to any of them as far as we know! and since hes kinda both wwx and lwjs kid, hes kindarelated to both of them if we go by the idea that jingyi is part of the lan clan as like a direct descendant of lan an :)

and if u wanna get REALLY weird about it, u can factor into he idea of rogue cultivators and cultivators from other sects joining new sects, like yu ziyuan (meishan yu to yunmeng jiang) wei changze (rogue to jiang) and i believe madame lan was a rogue who qingheng-jun married in?

AU where Yanli survives but Wei Wuxian still died.

Yanli knows her position is precarious in Koi tower, that little baby Jin Ling is now the only obstacle to inheriting the sect. She sees the look in Jin Guangyao’s eyes when he thinks she’s not looking and knows exactly which way the wind is blowing.

But she can’t go to Lotus Pier. The thought of having to live with Jiang Cheng, her brother who she loves dearly but knows lead the charge to kill her other beloved little brother, churns her stomach and she knows the Jiang are too weak politically to protect her anyway.

Yanli doesn’t really have any other friends, she spent all her life caring for her brothers and later her husband so she has no allies to go to. There is her mother’s family in Meishan but she is unsure of Jin Ling’s safety there. She knows Grandmother Yu would protect her but her Jin son is another matter. There’s only one person she can think of who she can trust and knows that Lan Wangji was the sole friend A-Xian trusted and loved until the end.

Anyway Jiang Yanli and Lan Zhan should be friends and coparent their kids together.

Also it would be funny if they got platonically married for further protection and to keep their reputations but because of their genuine respect and affection for each other the whole world thinks they’re actually in love. The world is shocked when Wangxian move in together post canon and are very shameless in public meanwhile Hanguang-Jun’s jilted wife is happily fussing over their kids in the background and making them all soup for dinner.

Regarding the MDZS donghua:

So I was rewatching random episodes, as one does, when I got Lan family feelings.

(First, I should say that I’ve long held the interpretation (headcanon?) that in the Lan Sect if the Sect Leader is indisposed then the “heir apparent” takes over until a proper heir is born and old enough to lead. For this reason as long as QHJ is in seclusion, LQR leads. And depending on adaptation LXC is either an adult or coming into adulthood when the Wen attack, meaning that if QHJ is dead afterwards then LXC is the Sect Leader. And if he’s on the run [indisposed] then his “heir apparent” is LWJ! I’m saying I think that one of the reasons Wangji sprinted back to his people after the false Xuanwu cave rescue is because he was worried about his family foremost and concerned he might technically be in charge secondly.)

So anyway, I’m watching the donghua, it’s episode 12, Lotus Pier just got wrecked, Wangji is vining in his Ancestral Shrine, and this Lan Elder approaches Wangji. According to the Tencent youtube channel’s subtitles the conversation goes—

Lan Elder: Wangji

LWJ (bowing in greeting): Great Uncle (Shufu).

Lan Elder: I heard that you’ve sent disciples to Yunmeng and Meishan to look for the Jiang Clan leader’s daughter and son, and his senior disciple.

LWJ: Yes.

Lan Elder: Wangji, this time Wen Clan of Qishan used a heavy hand and destroyed Jiang Clan of Yunmeng in one night. They even hunted down the three young people at that night. With every effort to kill them all. Do you know why?

LWJ: I understand.

Lan Elder: Then why did you have to help Jiang Clan and get yourself in trouble? Wen Clan of Qishan made such a big deal to deter us just to show it’s the unchallengeable leader of the clans. LQR (bowing in greeting): Uncle, I think what Wangji said was totally right.

Lan Elder: What?

LQR: When a nest falls, all the eggs break. Facing such a crunch, all the clans should join their hands to pull through this. Tomorrow, I’ll hit the road to Qinghe.

Lan Elder: Unbelievable!

And then the Elder leaves! And Lan Qiren encourages Wangji, reminding him that the Elder is only worried about the clan, and then asks Wangji for any updates on Xichen. Wangji hasn’t heard anything and he’s like “no news means good news. He’s smart. He’ll survive this.” and then he asks for updates on the Jiang kids!

And like. Imagine Lan Qiren who knows what it’s like to have your older brother suddenly not there, leaving you in a position of authority you weren’t really trained for, supporting Lan Wangji as he tries to lead his family into the beginning of uncertain times with war on the horizon. Where’s the fic about those uncle-nephew conversations?

Here, I'll share a rough outline I have simmering just for this, also featuring Wangxian heavily lol!

LXC/JYL PLOT POINTS

LXC instead of being near Yunping finds shelter near Meishan Yu’s territory

Due to this it's JYL who ends up finding him and worrying because he is obviously a mess

She has no idea he's LCX but knows that he is a Lan

He keeps it on the downlow about who exactly he is for safety for everyone and JYL doesn't take no for an answer since he has nowhere espe to go for recuperating

They begin to bond a bit about wanting to protect their siblings and worrying about what may have happened to them since both YMJ and GL were attacked

Eventually LXC confides in JYL about who he is and they begin a correspondence during war as he is eventually able to reunite with GL and she begins helping in the camps

Eventually during one of the war counsels for the clans LXC hears JZX griping about JYL and WWX essentially feeding into nasty rumors

LXC is the one to lose it and ends up starting a physical fight (THE SCANDAL)

JYL hears about this and asks him why he had done that, LXC goes on about how she is too good to be talked of that way as well as WWX who LWJ does respect

The Sunshot Campaign does end, but the eventual twist is that LXC announces his intentions to marry JYL (SHOT GUN WEDDING)

LQR has an almost Qi deviation about all of this but rescinds and gives in because “whatever happy nephew”

WANGXIAN PLOT POINTS

Golden Core transfer still occurs

However the biggest turning point is it being LXC having attacked JZX for the way he spoke to JYL

Due to this, LXC and WWX actually strike up a sort of friendship because of their care of JYL

This affects the way WWX begins to become slightly less guarded in regards to his opinions about LWJ since LXC is a doting brother who speaks well of LWJ

Because those 4 begin to strike up a weird little friendship again it becomes common for others to inquire about it all

JC of course gets progressively jealous about this once the war ends which leads into accusations of WWX siding more with Gusu Lan after the war to “steal what's Yunmeng Jiang” a.k.a WWX and JYL

This leads to some big fight between them that is heavily palpable when the clans are together

WWX is able to occasionally confide things in LWJ, who is still careful now in the way he listens to WWX before discussing ideas together

Wen’s being saved still happens but, due to JYL having ties with Gusu Lan instead by marriage and because of LXC’s better knowledge of WWX it is suggested that they do not provoke further desperation or resorts for this

JC is not happy about this, aka, let LWJ punch JC after the meeting because JC’s temper gets the better if him, and it mirrors what LXC did to protect JYL earlier

Instead of JC being the one to go meet and make demands of WWX, LWJ secretly goes on the request of JYL, WN is revived slightly earlier which leaves LWJ suggesting he will speak to LXC more on what can be done to let the remaining Wens continue living peacefully without the shadow of being threatened or WWX being labeled a threat

Somewhere down the line due to this it is suggested that the Wens themselves that are left be allowed to choose where to live and set up their own establishments, as under Gusu Lan’s neutral opinion and observation they aren't obviously building up a new “sect”

Not listed are the finer points of romantic build up for both and side character effects to the plot of all this, needless to say, Lan Qiren is a stubborn goat that is another hurdle to overcome. As well as the Jins trying to poke for ways to upend the very precarious peace established from this deal between Gusu Lan and Wen Qing as the remaining spokesperson of the Wens. There is an eventual core reveal as well, a la thank you Wen Ning since JC is now harassing not only Wangxian, but Lan Xichen and Jiang Yanli by accusing LXC of ulterior motives to undermine Yunmeng Jiang.

Just finished twelve moons and a fortnight. It took almost a week and a lot of emotions. Beware of spoilers!! This is essentially a live blogging of it

I AM BACK ! and more prepared to read this than ever. I think I went long enough that I only remember 3 or 4 major bits from this (meishan yu, the amalgamation of all the dead from lotus pier before the sunshot campaign began and wei ying seeing them as acting sect leader, lxc healing a-Qing [which still hurts my soul,,,,its taking from. The rest though may be the same as if I was to Iread it for the first time and im looking forward to it.

I have my notes app on the side while I read this bc I am a serial binge reader and need sth to hold onto my thoughts before j forget them, it has happened way too many times ans I end an incoherent mess at every fix when this happens. BUT!! I want to really show how much I love this and I like being detailed. So if this end up crossing the character limit i am not sorry.

He feels their spiritual energy pouring into the seals before he sees it in the ward, reeling back at the sudden shock of ninety-one ghostly golden cores taking up arms beside his—ready to defend their sect in death as they could not do in life, and then he finally understands why the land-eater went unnoticed for so long. The ghosts must have been suppressing it until its power surpassed theirs, and then they sought out Wang Hai for help when they could do nothing more—but for them to have taken shape like this, in something resembling their living selves even though their bodies must long since have rotted away—it should have been beyond them to do such a thing, unless…"

I am both in awe and full of wonder and feel as though I'm there. Words do not begin to describe the intense experience it is to read this

Okay tbh you'd find me hard pressed to say a mdzs character im not fond of, and ofc the Nies are also some of my favorites. And thi makes me think so much. Because after all is said nd done, after nhs exposed jgy and his schemes and wit came to light, we do know he is clever but he is then also under constant suspicion and scrutiny. And yes he may scheme but didn't he only do tht to avenge his brother? I do believe he is done with it. And yet I also believe he is also very up to date with news and gossip and going-ons. It brings me to mind, how much does he know, and how much of that weighs on him? He doesn't have much family left, most of his friends from his youth have grown apart or may have died at the war. Anyways im very emotional about nie huaisang

"Wait." Jin ZiXuan whirled angrily to stand right in front of his former intended. "Koi Tower? You said Cloud Recesses, then Lotus Pier, then the Unclean Realm. You didn't say Koi Tower!"

"That was how it would have gone. But we changed things," she tried to appease him. "Please let the man speak so we can know the situation."

"The situation? Is that what you're calling it? My sect has been attacked and all you can do is call it 'a situation'?"

Wei WuXian ran to plant himself in front of his martial sister. "Show some respect, Jin Gongzi. To my sister and to your fellow disciple."

"Or what?" Jin ZiXuan sneered. "You'll punch me again?"

Jiang Cheng was almost as fast as his brother. "I'll punch you, this time," he promised with a growl.

"Boys," Jiang YanLi admonished the three of them. "Silence." To the disciple now kneeling properly, she apologized. "I'm sorry about that. Please. Report the most important facts."

"Four days ago, Wen Xu launched an attack on Koi Tower. Two days ago he managed to overcome our defenses. Jin ZongZhu was captured and is being taken to the Nightless City as a prisoner. Jin Furen has disappeared along with her personal guards and almost every woman cultivator in the sect. As of this morning, there were three hundred, fity-two dead, one hundred, thirty confirmed to be Wen prisoners, and over two hundred unaccounted for."

"The two hundred include Jin Furen and her ladies? Or just men?"

"Condolences?" The Jin heir was shaking, with anger or hurt or fear. "I'm sure you're just glad it wasn't Lotus Pier."

"When the Wen attack Lotus Pier, I fully expect that the report will state that my parents died defending their home. I don't expect either of them will surrender, allow themselves to be captured, or to flee while our disciples are still fighting," she spat back. "Your parents are alive. Which means they can be found or rescued." She turned to her younger brother. "XianXian. How is your research replicating the butterflies going?"

Wei WuXian smiled regretfully. "It's not as easy as it looks. Which is why I suppose no other sect has managed to make a working copy. I'll keep trying."

"No." Jiang YanLi took a breath. Tried to calm her suddenly pounding heart. It has to be him. He's the best choice. "Your hiding talisman. Can you put it on and remove it easily?"

"Of course."

"Good. We need eyes on the ground in Lanling. Do you agree?" She glanced at the sect heirs and leader. Seeing their agreement, she nodded again. "XianXian. I'll ask you to scout for us. And find a way to get your reports back to us. Disguise yourself as a rogue cultivator or a mundane. Wait a bit for the Jin messenger to recover a bit. Question him. Then go skulk about. Remain hidden under the talisman as much as possible."

"Yes, ShiJie," Wei WuXian bowed. "Can I take someone with me?"
