what annoys you the most with 3H? The fandom or the missed opportunities from the game?
Oh.
The fandom takes the first place, because while it was funny to craugh seeing those bad takes, 2 years after the release of the game those takes are still endorsed and built upon and it’s just impossible to discuss about FE16 without being sure that the person you’re talking to is talking about the game, or the redshit takes.
Still, I firmly believe fandom wouldn’t be that cesspool of incessant drama if the localised version (especially NoA?) didn’t take wild directions with the game. It’s incomprehensible how a game in its OG version can be saying green but the localised version everyone talks about “corrected” it to “blue”.
Scripts are more or less the same, but the directions given to the VAs?
rant under the cut about directions, voice acting and people arbitrarly pushing an agenda despite the media they’re supposed to translate/bring to non-jp crowds.
I pointed it in an earlier post (or earlier posts?) but as a french person I grew up with the 4Kids dub, which was infamous for, uh, “translating” things for western audiences, even at the cost of coherency and let’s not even talk about the source material this thing doesn’t exist. Remember the Shadow Realm from YGO? .
I watched a short anime a few years ago about the anime industry (Shirobako?) and I remember a character trying to become hired as a voice actor/seiyuu - she had to learn and to feel the character - she has to know the character as much as the author who created them.
A few years ago, I didn’t feel as if the dubbing cast worked on their characters as much as the OG!voice actors. For a recet exemples I was rewatching a certain anime with the fr dub - basically a former underling fights against his superior who became a traitor, and even if his superior doesn’t regret turning into a traitor and ultimately became a giant fly, the underling always respected his superior and treated him with proper forms of adress. In the “early 2010 dub” I watched yesterday? Yeah no, guy’s talking to him as if he is talking to his friend in a pub.
Even now, while the quality of the voice acting has improved (and I feel like people take their jobs way more seriously for the dubbing industry) - i was the first surprised with SoV’s VA - we have now directions. Because the manga/anime/game isn’t, uh, good enough or whatever, the dubbing team decides to go off and do its own thing, regardless of coherence or, worse, what was the intent/core of the og game.
I am playing MH:Rise, the game is set up in a more or less traditional “ninja” village, with a lot of old japanese (? feudal? idk) aesthetics. The devs said they wanted to return to the roots of the saga and based new monsters on Yokais, mythological monsters from the japanese folklore. When you meet a new giant monster to hunt, you have small cutscenes to introduce said monster sung with a Noh theater aesthetic (i just looked up on wikipedia i thought it was kabuki but kabuki isn’t the only form of theater whatever the more you know).
NPCs in the MH series speak their own language, often called the MHese (a bit like the sim language). IDK if it is because this opus has a japanese aesthetic, but you can pick a jp voice acting instead of the MHese (same voice actors but talking in a different language). Or you can pick the US/ENG dub, with, I suppose, US VAs. I’m not complaing about the lack of FR dub, I’m rather happy with it tbf. But, for some reason, despite the aesthetic, the yokais, the pagodas in the background, the samurai flagship cat, the katanas and whatever, I thought the Noh style cutscenes weren’t going to change, or maybe someone would try to sing in English. But it isn’t the case, the US/ENG version of those cutscenes aren’t Noh style sung, they were completely revamped, so no traditionnal songs and instruments in the background, instead have a dude describing the monster you’re about to face in a cheap National Geographic imitation.
Why remove this? Was it because US!Capcom thought the western world wouldn’t understand the Noh references (but could still understand the general “aesthetic”, just, ban on the songs?) or some shit? They couldn’t remove the flagship cat’s samurai armor to swap it for a GI uniform, so they banned the Noh cutscenes? Why?
It is the same shit NoA pulled out with the Fates localisation, Suzukaze became Kaze because... reasons?
Maybe I’m biased because I’m french, and apparently Wonder France is one of the biggest consumer of anime/manga outside japan, but the mere idea that something can be changed because it’s not “western enough so the audience wouldn’t get it” pisses me to no end, and this is why, in the beginnings of Internet (YT videos with 4 parts, megaupload etc etc) everyone I knew who watched anime ditched everything dubbed to watch the very same episode but subbed (one of my friends even worked on her english with subs!).
Back to FE16 because this is your question and I ranted enough, I cannot stress it enough regarding Rhea, but while I do not doubt Cherami Leigh made a great effort and worked her best with the tools given to her (to this day I still cannot fathom how she managed to dub Mae and Rhea, they’re so different or not seiros is genki!rhea if only leigh was given that script) Leigh!Rhea isn’t Inoue!Rhea. NoA (I harp on NoA but I suppose NoA oversaw the dubbint process/effort, NoE is inexistent) had an agenda and a reading of Rhea that isn’t the same as NoJ.
“You worthless piece of garbage” doesn’t exist in the og!script - but more importantly, delivering this, Inoue!Rhea isn’t furious, she is upset and desperate. Leigh!Rhea is furious, Cherami Leigh does an admirable job at conveying NoA!Rhea’s fury - but this is not the same character NoJ wrote. If NoA gave the same directions NoJ gave Kikuko Inoue to Cherami Leigh, I’m pretty sure the “Rhea BaD” crowd, the eating babies takes and whatever shit redshit comes up everyday would be way reduced.
Maybe @nilsh13 has redshit take saved talking about this, but if we’re not talking about the same character, what kind of discussion can even happen? (I’m sure someone someday pulled the “well i played the localised game so i’m not talking about the og script with you but with the localised script” to defend some smelly take)
Missed opportunities can be fuel for fanfics.
Discourse based on fandom drama (at this point NoA itself is part of the fandom with their “religious extremis/zealot” take)? Nothing can salvage it. I genuinely like to talk about FE16 (especially lizards), but since every topic became a landmind because of the fandom drama, even making posts in good faith can be used as a fuel for drama, or completely diverted from their original goal to suit, again, some faction war between lizards and a certain someone.
Tl; dr : Fandom.

This may be a very biased question, however, who did Klaus truly love- Caroline or Cami? I absolutely adore Klaroline, but would they even had anything more if it wasn't for when Caroline visited NOLA in S5? I seems like Caroline was only brought to TO for fan service. Did Klaus love Cami more? I've been trying to understand, and the more I think about it, the more I get sad because #klaroline4ever. I need someone elses' thoughts!
Well, this may be a very biased answer (lol), but I never bought Klamille as a thing, so, obviously...
This isn't going to be very nice on Cami, in case anyone out there might find it offensive or whatever. I don't necessarily blame the character, though, I blame the writing. Klaus having a new romantic interest was never a bad thing in itself, it was the way they did it that never sailed.
To be fair, I think it's perfectly acceptable to believe that Klaus loved Cami. But that relationship was so wrong, for so many reasons, that I could never get past the awkwardness. Cami was a prop for male tears and exposition from almost the moment she came onto the show until her literal last breath (and the few times she made an appearance after that). She was the result of a very wrong attempt to try to reproduce the KC chemistry in TO to maybe get the fans to embrace this new ship, but it was so, so, so wrong... Joseph Morgan went from having chemistry with the walls and trees in TVD to not having a slight spark with the person who was supposed to be his romantic interest (whom he was pushing towards another guy all through season 1, awww... so romantic). Klaus would've been better off with Stefan.
Cami's supposed to be this moral compass on the show, the ~~kind-hearted, good, full of light~~ person (remind you of anyone? lol) who'll drag Klaus back into the path of redemption, but all she does is literally excuse him for his terrible behavior, starting with how he treats her. Klaus is awful to her, terribly abusive. He compelled her to go out with someone against her will, even after she saw Marcel being aggressive to Thierry and was like 'nope, not for me, I'm outta here', to <i>spy</i> for him. And this gets shoved under the rug in a second. Klaus kills Elijah's girlfriend right before his eyes, then he curses Hayley into her wolf form, and Cami is literally there telling people that they have to understand that he did all that because he had a plan and he had to make it look convincing. She attempts to be mad at him because he bit her (not because he killed Gia, or cursed Hayley; because he bit her) and when he says he was just pretending, she smiles and that's it. Let it go. And then I'm supposed to believe that this is the person who's going to bring the best out of Klaus? Klaus goes on being the same unapologetic jackass he always was.
And then season 3 happens and it's just... It's painful. I abandoned TO on S3 for many reasons, I couldn't watch it anymore, but what they do to Klamille there is like... Is this seriously supposed to be the climax of this pairing? When she turns into a vampire and becomes this total crazy bitch (WHY? isn't vampirism supposed to enhance what you are? WHY oh WHY would good pure cinnamon roll Cami become 500 years old Katherine?), Klaus is having doubts over her. Hayley has to tell him that he's gonna have to accept that the person he knew is gone and she's someone else now. I think it was supposed to make us realize that Cami had ~~darkness~~ in her, but... Honestly, if that was the case, there are some fic writers in the fandom who could've done a better job than the people getting paid to write those scripts.
Camille was a character that was treated so, so badly by the writers it's hard to even defend her. She had inconsistent writing, no agency within the plot whatsoever, never got her own story lines, never developed into something more substantial, and all she was there for was to explain to us, viewers, how terribly misunderstood Klaus was (and also to babysit, which is what she does all through season 2). She spends three seasons chasing after him when he repeatedly shoves her away, so when she was finally killed off, I felt genuinely sad for her. Not even her death was about her. She was meant to be a strong female character, instead she got absolutely nothing, died as a minor sidekick who got no reward out of her involvement with Klaus, and was using her last breaths to tell him "he's good". Honey, were you not watching your own show?
Caroline, on the other hand, never lets Klaus get away with being awful. She holds him accountable for the crap he does, she points fingers, she doesn't just take his bullshit excuses and 'oh, I'm so damaged' crap. At the same time she's obviously attracted to him, tempted by these little snippets of hidden depths she gets to see, she doesn't just excuse his wrongdoings. She pushes Klaus out of his comfort zone, forces him to reassess his behavior, to consider right vs convenient, and even if it's just for her sake, he actually does change. He lets Tyler off the hook (more than once), he risks getting caught to save her from those vampire hunters, he drops everything to help Stefan with Rayna Cruz, he forsakes his revenge party against Katherine. He's killing his way through France, being a crappy father to his 15yo, then Caroline shows up, stuns him with some truths, and he instantly reconsiders. It's things that meant something to Klaus, people who had personally wronged him, situation that might put him and his family in danger, not like that extra whoever cop he "helps" in S3 who made absolutely no difference in his life whether he lived or died. He even showed a degree of regret over killing Carol when he asked Damon how he got away being forgiven for the crap he did.
In turn, Klaus was always the one person who saw the best of Caroline and completely acknowledged it. She wasn't ashamed of her vampirism, she enjoyed all the perks, and while everyone else was being broody over it, sorry for themselves, she was out there kicking ass. Klaus knew her better than her best friends, understood how she longed for more, how curious she was, how restless she would grow by being stuck forever as a sidekick in Mystic Falls. Everything he said to her was like a revelation. He was the only romantic interest in Caroline's life to truly put her first. And I want to say that they never got together in TVD because she wasn't ready to leave her mortal life behind and fully embrace immortality but the truth is they never got together because some idiot decided to make The Originals happen. lol We all know that 'I should've turned my back on you ages ago' thing would've ended up in hot hybrid-vampire sex if TO hadn't been picked up by the network.
This is not to say that there weren't problems there, of course there were, but the two of them genuinely did get the best out of each other. Klaus allowed Caroline to be accepted and appreciated for who she truly was, while she got Klaus to show true selflessness.
So I personally never bought Klamille. It fell completely flat for me. But I don't think believing Klaus loved Cami diminishes how he felt for Caroline. The guy is immortal. To think he would never have feelings for anyone other than Caroline is naive. The brief little moments Caroline gets mentioned in TO are very telling of how Klaus still felt about her even years and years later. That phone call. How he never denies loving her to Stefan, how he tells Stefan they'll be seeing each other again if he doesn't do right by her. On the letter he sent her when she opens the school, he repeats the 'however long it takes', which is a reaffirmation of the promise he made her. How he says he didn't want to know if she would let him die or not. That look he gives her when she says she'd been to New Orleans after him and he wasn't there.
Caroline was his endgame, and he was hers. The two of them could've had different loves, met different people over the course of their lives, but they were always, always meant to find each other again in the end. So, to answer your question (lol), no I don't think Klaus' endgame would've ever been Camille, and yes, I do think Caroline would've ended up in New Orleans at some point, or he would've ended up with her, wherever she was. If there had been even an inch of consistency in TO S5 and if JP hadn't been on a crusade to punish the actors who were apparently unhappy with her and unwilling to ever come back for Legacies, that's how the story would've ended. It's hard to make any real interpretation of the show when we know how those scripts got written, how little thought went into staying true to characters and their journeys, but that's what I believe.
THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK, ANON! lol

GS4 vs AJ:AA - Episode 2, Part 5
Here’s the last court segment of this episode! It’s also relatively shorter than the usual posts, but there’s a lot of dialogue I captured for context, so it doesn’t look shorter. There’s not too much deviation between the source and localized after we covered all the changes made to the Kitaki’s previously.
For once I started earlier today and got through it pretty quickly, but for the sake of a consistent posting schedule, I’ll stick with around midnight PST every other day or so. Seems like the best rhythm for me that I can keep up with.

June 17, 9:52 AM District Court Defendant Lobby No. 2
This is it, the big day! Did you get any sleep?
Yeah, I went to bed at 1:00 AM or so.
Oh? What time did you wake up?
That's only two hours, Apollo...
But, at least you have me!
...And the Amazing Mr. Hat!
<Mr. Here's looking at you, kid.
Originally: "Yes, I'm always keeping an eye on you." (It's supposed to sound supportive, I swear.)
>
Daddy! Do you know who Prosecutor Gavin's witness is today?
Take a guess!
Hmm... How about Little Plum?
Ah ha ha! That Sherman tank of a mom? Nope, guess again.
That's too bad. You know, speaking of moms...
You need to find me a new mommy one of these days, Daddy!
It's barely morning and you're at it already, Trucy!
Ah ha ha ha ha ha!
<Apollo> (だから、ウソっぽいんだよなあ、 この親子) (OK, see, this is why I don't buy their "father-daughter" relationship.)
I commented previously that Apollo questioned their father-daughter relationship and legitimately forgot that he also says this, and this time it does match what he originally said. So, my bad.
Also, Naruhodou describes her as "キモっ玉" (kimottama), meaning she got "guts" or "pluck" to her. I appreciate the "Sherman tank", though.
> Courtroom
<Judge> 少なくとも、 ハッキリわかったことは‥‥ We did find out one thing for certain.
There were three people in the park at the time of the murder:
‥‥そして目撃者の3人しか いなかった、というコトです。 The witness, the victim, and the defendant.
And today, I'd like to do something a little new age.
I'd like to look at this horrible crime... from the outside.
The "outside"...?
<Klavier> “凶器の入手経路”‥‥ “犯行準備”‥‥ The acquisition of the murder weapon... The preparation for the act...
Our poor defendant told all, you see.
...To his betrothed.
His... bee trove?
...His fiancée, Herr Judge. His partner for life... with no chance for parole.
Very well, you may show the erm... "lucky" lady to the stand.
Once again, the judge struggles with words outside of his language, and Kyouya, being the resident English expert, has to explain. That being said, "bee trove" is suspiciously apt as a metaphor to describe her...
>
...Your name and occupation, Fräulein.
My occupation... is future wife.
Ah, traditional values! I respect that.
Too many brides these days can't even weave baskets blindfolded... underwater.
Yet you're here today as a witness for the prosecution?
To be honest, I didn't want to testify at first.
But... I couldn't hide the truth.
Hmm. Honesty! Another admirable trait.
Originally, his "underwater blindfolded basket weaving" standards were about soft-boiling eggs so that the yolk hardens while the white remains soft. They're called "onsen tamago" because these eggs were traditionally cooked in a hot spring, but can be cooked in any ol' pot between 70-80°C (158-176°F). It's one of those old-timey signs that a soon-to-be-wed would be a good wife because she could cook. Now, the only time I'd ever see these eggs is when I don't boil them hotly enough.
On that note, nowadays there are underwater basket weaving Olympics. Thanks, Rio 2016. Maybe Tokyo 2020 (2021?) could include a special event category for egg-boiling.
> 1st Witness Testimony, press 3rd statement
Not really, I think. There's a system in place to limit access.
But Wocky's a special case, being the next-in-line.
Perhaps his treatment was a bit too special, ja?
Well, maybe he is a bit spoiled...
I hear he got amazing presents for his birthdays.
Last year was a switchblade made out of chewing gum and a chocolate gravestone!
<Apollo> (アブナイものが好きなのか、 アマいものが好きなのか‥‥) (Sounds like he has a taste for sweets... and danger.)
Originally, they were a rubber dosu and a chocolate hanafuda card. Danger AND gambling, but the kid-friendly kind!
Though, I can accept "chewing-gum switchblade" here because "ガム" (gamu) can also mean that kind of gum or the gum material of rubber.
> Press 5th statement, present Alita, present chart or sandals
Ms. Tiala!
You testified that you had no connection to the victim!
And I don't. Now.
"Now"...?
I quit half a year ago, didn't I? So there's no connection.
Let me guess, you're the kind of guy...
コイビトのムカシのコト、ぜんぶ 聞かないと気がすまないタイプの、 ...who can't rest until he knows every last detail of his girlfriend's past.
Am I right?
Th-That's not true at all! Why, I...
I embrace the ones I love, past flaws and all, no matte--
<Objection!>
"There's no connection now" doesn't fly in a court of law.
Doesn't... fly?
(She probably feels right at home with the Kitakis!)
Fyi, the judge responded here because she called them all out, not just the defense.
And yep, here it is again: "キモっ玉". So, a Sherman-tank mom and a tough-nut fiancée; no wonder she fits right in. (I still think "bee trove" is more apt, though.)
> Present more evidence to tie her in but present wrongly
Well, I suppose I could see--
<Objection!>
This trail you think you have found, it doesn't lead to the truth.
Nor to a long career in the legal profession, ja?
Gee, thanks.
Perhaps you will allow me to do the honors?
Hmm... Why not? It might be nice for a change.
Let’s Rock! Most excellent... Let's rock!
<Apollo> (なんだか‥‥ いつもの何倍もクヤシイ) (I'll take the usual penalty next time, thanks.)
Very well, Mr. Justice. Try again.
Look, guys, the JP script does have English letters and it has them for a good reason. Kudos to the loc team for that most excellent reference too.
> 2nd Witness Testimony, present medical chart at 4th statement, Perceive at new (6th) statement, present wrong evidence about the "threat"
...Because of what?
The eyes of a hawk... and the brain of a toad.
(Ribbit! I mean, ack! I can't lose this now!)
(C'mon toad brain, one more try!)
Originally, the metaphor was "brain full of cobwebs". So Odoroki tries dusting his attic.
> Press newer (7th) statement
We already know you're lying about having no reason!
I know you know! Don't look at me like that!
Like I'm some two-bit washed up good-for-nothing...
You scared me!
...I concur.
Even I am rarely treated to such a... hot gaze.
(Maybe I need to do some face training, too...)
"Hot gaze"... Yeah, sounds about right.
Last line was simply: "(...I guess I made quite the face at her.)"
> Present bullet in safe
So she planned to marry him just to get her hands on this fortune?
<Objection!>
<Wocky> イイカゲンなコトを 言い散らかしやがってェ‥‥ You keep talking trash about my Alita...
...and I'll sue you, lawyer-man!
...Huh? Me!?
You said...
You said you'd... You'd...
You'd abuse my Alita!
Um, I think you mean "accuse"...!
Same difference! Well you can't have her! She's mine!
It was "kokuhaku" (confess, usu. love to someone) vs "kokuhatsu" (accuse).
>
Wake up and smell reality!
A... Alita-baby?
<Alita> カルテのサイン‥‥ 退院を待って、婚約‥‥ The signature on the chart, the engagement...
I mean, come on! It's so obvious.
Even for a brainless, spoiled brat such as yourself.
Your honesty is like a breath of foul air, Fräulein.
Hey, I wasn't getting out of this clean, anyway.
I think I'd prefer if Klavier here used a sound-based metaphor given how his entire character design is based on music. In the JP, he also used a sound metaphor: "It seems... we now hear your true voice, young lady."
Granted, "honne" also just means "true nature", but I like the hidden pun there.
> 3rd Witness Testimony, press 5th statement, point out "another place", point anywhere within the area of attention (double penalty)
This is where the killer shot from!
But then the killer couldn't have shot his right temple.
So young, and already senile. How unfortunate...
I'll have you know I'm not senile!
Why I remember exactly what I ate the morning of the crime!
‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥ ..............................
Ahem! Penalty!
<Apollo> (‥‥ズルいや) (...No fair.)
You seem intent on digging your own grave. Here, have a shovel and try again.
Odoroki suddenly dropping in Kansai accent out of the blue caught me off-guard. (It's his last line here.) Man was so devastated by that double penalty he got sent out west.
10/21/20 edit: Whoops, my bad. That wasn’t Kansai accent and wouldn’t have made sense if it was. He’s just sighing to himself, really, and I mistook that last ‘ya’ as a copula.

10/21/20 edit: Welp, I guess I was overthinking it. She just asks him if he spotted something icky like a cockroach.

More glaring than your forehead.
No... Nooooooooooo!
The first time I played this part, I found it a lot funnier than I should have because I thought Apollo was screaming about how his forehead was so "glaring".
That's it. I just wanted to share. The JP lines are just the usual "With that contradiction gone, your conjecture won't stand... Odeko-kun!"
> Select "He couldn't use the car", present Magic Panties
そのときは 気がつかなかったケド‥‥ By the way, I learned something yesterday...

Your hog...?
My motorcycle won't start. A clogged exhaust pipe...
Too bad! It looks like such a nice bike, too.
Hard to believe that it could break just from that!
どんな理由であれ‥‥ Cars, motorbikes, they're all the same.
Clog the exhaust, and they won't run.
<Alita> エンジンが‥‥かからない‥‥ My, how interesting.
"My, how interesting", indeed. It sounds so out of place that I wonder if this was supposed to be a temporary line that they decided to keep in the final draft. For reference, it was just "The engine... was clogged...!?"

Oh, and after that, you can come see my show!

<Mr. Oh, it's special alright!
それ‥‥ Please... anything but him.
Originally the gentleman said: "It is going to be a rare sight, indeed."
--
Next up, the most infamous episode of this game for its unintentional earworm... Though honestly, I never really found it all that bad. That said, thank goodness SoJ had a skip button for certain scenes, even if I didn’t mind watching them over and over anyway.

J2 SPN UK 2018 Main Panel
J2 come out on stage at the end of Misha’s panel and they both hug him as he leaves.
J2 are joking about doing a Saturday panel since they normally only do Sundays.
Jensen: No one understands Jared he’s an enigma lol
Jensen now teasing Rich.
Jared: Has anyone been to a convention before? We’ve been doing this for 10 years where the fuck have you been? Jensen: Someone just said they weren’t born yet :P
J2 finished filming 2 weeks ago.
Jared is jetlagged but happy to be here.
J2 threaten the fans with spoilers lol.
Jared says this is the first time there is a confession (concession?) stand in a convention hall.
Jared has somehow changed food into pasties and the stripping music has started. Jared’s pronunciation of pasties is cracking everyone up.
The J2 panel has descended into nipple tassles and Jensen just did a nipple tassle.
Jared: Don’t call them fanny packs in the UK, call them bum bags! Jensen: They call it sun cream! Jensen is blown away that they call it that lol. “Why do we call it sunscreen? It’s not a screen at all.”
Jensen to Jared: You’ve got sun cream and pasties in your bumbag!
Jensen about a bartender: Wow, he was kind of a dick to me... he was kind of a sausage roll.
J2 agree Adam would be pissed if he finally got out of the cage. Jensen would love to have Jake back on the show, Jared thinks Adam would be pissed but relieved. Jensen: He’s messed with the Winchester’s before and look where it got him.
Fan: What personality trait from your character is most like you? Jared: My hair. Jensen: Yeah [his hair] has a personality of its own!
Jared reads instruction booklets. He and Sam are similar in that way of study first before doing something, likes to research. Jensen and Dean both loved baked desserts, good music, as well as just fix things however they can. Dean thinks he can fix things with a can of WD-40 and a roll of duct tape. Jensen: Do they even have WD-40 here?”
Jared says Jensen laughs at him at times, Jensen mouths silently “A lot” lol
Jared: Shep’s a quirky kid. Jensen: *pats hand over heart* Jared: Yeah, they’re kindred spirits, these two (Jensen and Shep) <3
Jensen just whispered something to Jared and then he started cracking up even more.
Jared took off his jacket. Jensen checks his watch, “Right on time.” Jared then goes for his belt. Jensen, checks watch, “Oh, a little early.”
J2 making each other laugh :)
J2 are whispering to each other and doing full body laughs.
Jared: I think if you’re acting properly, then you’re learning something about your character.
Jared: Happens a lot when they read the script and notice things Sam wouldn’t do but also gives him a chance to explore and then realize after doing the scene that it makes sense.
Jared said he doesn’t think Sam would’ve lived with Amelia.
Jensen: Sometimes they challenge back the writers if something doesn’t make sense. He says 9 times out of 10 writers get it right/they’ll find a happy medium.
Jensen: You get a bro hug in the next episode. He said they made it unique like a “hey, are you okay?” hug.
J2 find little challenges in each script that they’re not sure how they’re gonna play until they shoot the scene.
Jared: Option 3 just change the scene and don’t tell the writers lol. Jensen says sometimes they just plain change it without telling the writers.
Jared: Jensen and I love Alex. Alex reminds him of a young Misha and messes with him lol. Favorite part of s13 for Jared was Alex, says he’s so gracious and talented and it was great having him there. Enjoyed showing him the ropes, welcoming him to the family.
Jensen: A few months ago we actually had to stop filming because it was raining so hard! Perhaps the 2nd time in 13 years. Jared wasn’t filming and was in his trailer wondering what was taking so long lol.
Jensen: “The physicality of what I had to do during the season finale was a challenge.”
The snow with Ketch in the AU was not planned. Jensen says that the cast and crew making this day work (re: rain and snow) are the moments he’s most proud of.
A fan said something and Jared didn’t understand what she said so she repeated it and apologized and Jared said “it’s okay” in the softest way.
Unlike Jared, Jensen doesn’t like to read ahead unless he has to in order to keep it all straight in his head.
Did Jensen know what John said to Dean in 2x01 (when he whispered about him maybe having to kill Sam)? He did not. He doesn’t read far in advance script wise so he doesn’t accidentally bring something from one script to another.
Jared doesn’t think even the writers knew for sure what John said. Sort of go with the flow and see what works.
At times Jared will be reviewing a scene with him and Jensen has no clue what he’s talking about cause he hasn’t read it lmao. Kevin Parks will also sometimes come in to discuss future scenes, still not getting Jensen hasn’t read it yet and he’ll try to bullshit.
J2 both just rubbed and twitched their noses in sync :P
The writers are currently working out the next season from the huge cliffhanger left at the end of Season 13
JP: Sam wasn't meant to be soulless for so long and Amelia longer but writers adapted due to the level of success.
Jared would tell his past self to “buy bitcoin.” lol
Jared “I almost lived parallel to Sam. I sort of grew up with Sam.”
Jared says if he could see a glimpse of the future he would say no, he doesn’t want to know the future.
Jared used to have a lot of issues with the industry, wanted to get out (early seasons it sounds like) and even spoke to his lawyers about leaving the show without being sued. “I talked to my on-screen brother, Jensen” and Jensen told him “we can do this,” that they could get through it.
Advice for past character? Jared thinks Sam (& him) had to go through what they did to get where they are.
Jensen: “If I could talk to my season 1 self, I’d say settle in.” Jensen says he never used to settle into jobs because “I’ve never been on a show longer than a season or two.”
Jared prefers "life is long" to "life is short.” Life is short gives him anxiety. “Life is long. Be the person who you want to be. Live now how you want to look back and remember who you’ve been.”
Jensen: “Somebody once said, people aren’t gonna remember the things you had planned, they’re gonna remember what you’ve done.”
Jared can hear an annoying blender in the background: “I hope that’s a great smoothie.”
“it’s the vapers” - Jensen when Jared shouted turn the blender off... there’s a vape convention in this building lmao.
Jared’s favorite monster death was Lilith because of the cool build up! Jensen’s fave death was Alastair.
Jared on mental health prejudice: “I think we’ve come a long way but I feel like there’s still a long way to go.” He feels the same about gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.
Fan: “I came from Hungary for you guys.” Jared “I just ate so I’m not hungry.” :P
Jared just got a semi-rimshot from Norton. Make that two!
Jared: “YES! Two rim shots.” Jensen “Stop saying that!”
Jared: Had to fly across the pond to get a rimshot...w/ innuendos lol.
Fan: Does your character leak into everyday life? Jensen: Absolutely Jared: She said leaked not licked. Jensen: I know that? Jared: Okay it’s just the accent sounded like- Jensen: Not to anyone else!
Jensen: “I have had moments where Dean leaked....” Cracking up lol
Jensen: “one of the ways that Jared and I bridge the distance at work is, we FaceTime our kids.”
Last question: Did their kids ever want to be on the show & would they let them? Jensen: No. They FaceTime a lot but Jensen is often in bloody make-up. JJ thinks it’s disgusting & doesn’t want to work where he does.
They keep saying Uncle Jared and Uncle Jensen it's cute as hell.
Jared: A baby pic of Tom was in a scene. He also says that the kids were on set and watching daddy and Uncle Jensen creeping upstairs with flashlights and Shep grabbed Uncle Ackles’ flashlight and joined in thinking they weren’t actually playing pretend :)

Anime Fall 2019 Final Impressions + Plans for Winter 2020 [FINAL]
Tumblr media
Before I start reviewing every anime I watched this season, I want to address this first: As the title suggest, this is gonna be my last post, but not my last post overall (as I’m still working on my 2019 review with a little bit of my history from the last 10 years to celebrate the end of 2010 and the start of 2020), this is the last post of the seasonal anime review series.
This may be a one-time thing since it’s the last post, but I’m gonna keep my opinions as short as possible because, here’s a story: right after I published my previous Summer 2019 anime review post, I started by sharing my post on a Discord server, someone pinged me about reading my post I just shared as well as my retirement post (finally, someone who reads my stuff), I later started talking about my issues with making these posts, such as inconsistent formatting, don’t really have much opinion on what I saw or looking forward to, and my least favorite: post-publish editing, about the part of not having much thought on the shows I watch or gonna watch next, this guy from the Karoshi Discord server who atually read my previous Summer anime review post responded with this:
Tumblr media
Well, I’ll gladly try not to write lengthy paragraphs when in reality I don’t really have much to comment, but at the same time, it’s going to be rather weird how there’s one entry with little to no comments and another with lengthy paragraphs whenever I actually feel like commenting. I’ve always been forcing myself to make lengthy paragraphs because I needed to make these posts look even as much as possible. (And I still ended up having a little bit of forced opinions, but at the same time, there are some small things that I needed to get it out of my heart, and there are other lengthy things for the same reason)
However, there are some things that I do really feel like making lengthy reviews, so I’ll point them out with a * representing “Lengthy review written by heart.”
The only things I ended up having no commentary at all were three anticipated anime in contrast to literally everything else which I still ended up making lengthy posts, though I guarantee some of these were from heart.
(Let me know if I should change my ShareX image quality settings to .png or .jpg because I’ve been using .jpg for a while and now I started to notice that the quality is absolute crap. I should have pasted it when I cropped it for sure, but I just wanted to formally upload this, so I can make this post look “formal”, even though there’s a little bit of informal writing, sometimes.)
(Also, check the end of the post for my birthday thanks)
Tumblr media
Ranking every anime I watched this season from best to worst
I should also address why I do these posts from top to bottom even though it should be the other way around, it’s because I like keeping track of what’s my highest and what’s my lowest, although now that I think about it, I should have made outlines of these lists and the moment I start making these posts, I could go from the lowest to the highest like many sites do, but whatever. Also, if that wasn’t enough, the thumbnails already spoil what’s my #1 AOTS.
Let’s get right to the rankings!
1.- Azur Lane: The Animation*: I’m super addicted to Azur Lane, I even play it a lot more than FGO, and when the anime was announced, I defintely was absolutely hyped for it! And now, it’s finally here and boy, it absolutely didn’t disappoint! So let’s get right to it! (Also, expect me to draw comparisons with Kancolle a lot. inb4 y’all gonna tell me “Try to bring Warship Girls for better comparison” and all that jazz and honestly, I don’t even care about lesser known shipfus properties as much as I do with Kancolle and Azur Lane)
For starters, the anime uses the “Azur Lane vs Red Axis” storyline which is a reference to the guild menu.
Tumblr media
(Screenshot from the Azur Lane Wiki with the old UI)
Tumblr media
(My screenshot of the guild menu with the new UI, for comparison)
As someone who always plays Azur Lane a lot, this is one thing I overlooked for the most part and I feel kinda stupid for it.
There’s just like a ton of easter eggs I understood, I could make posts after posts from each episode or just make like a compilation post about every single easter egg from the game in every episode, I was literally geeking out on all of them.
The animation wasn’t the greatest, sadly, and even Kancolle looked better than Azur Lane does, but I’m not really mad about it nor I care! Even so, there were still some interesting sakuga moments! However, for the last time about the visuals, Kancolle has a uniformal character designs (calling them same faces would be a stretch), but Azur Lane does a pretty good job on capturing the different art styles the characters have, at least from their facial structures. It’s still no Chain Chronicle-tier (nor there will be anything with the same animation and character designs as the Chain Chronicle OVAs EVER!), but I’m impressed!
Speaking of the animation, episodes 11 and 12 will be delayed UNTIL MARCH while the entire series will be rebroadcast in January so we could lead up to the finale episodes in March. Well that’s certainly going to be quite a while to wait but they’re doing this to deliver the best animated finale episodes as possible, so I’m totally down for it!
Perhaps my big problem with the story is that the subplot focused more on trying to befriend Ayanami and there wasn’t much of Z23, but I think it’s more like they’re pulling from the JP server’s starter ship roster with Javelin, Laffey and Ayanami while Z23 is an unlockable. But it doesn’t matter, we do not point out issues or think of what I didn’t like which I had no problems, it always leave me a sour taste in what I’ve always been hyped for, so forget what I said.
Not to mention there are a little bit of elements that are completely new in the series and I wish they added them in the game, like Kaga’s giant fox ship and Unicorn’s flying U-chan (I didn’t know U-chan lives, I thought it was a simple lifeless stuffed animal), Hornet and Laffey in swimsuits (Come on, Manjuu, give them these swimsuits), etc.
The anime is also making me like some characters more, I kinda like Sheffield more because she’s badass (and doesn’t wear panties), but I’m liking Belfast a lot more than I have before, her chemistry with Enterprise is just amazing, I really love seeing these two together.
To top it all off, the first volume of the Blu-Ray has a really awesome unlockable of a new Enterprise costume! Which I’ll probably never get of course because I don’t think I could ever buy the BD.
I also didn’t know I needed and find it strange to hear English dub in the anime when the game has 100% Japanese voices, and I really wonder how much of the VAs know about this game and if they play it themselves (I’m sure they might not). This is a common thing with mobage adaptations (and even Kancolle), and Azur Lane is no exception.
Azur Lane The Animation is truly a love letter to the people who play the game, especially me because boy, I couldn’t stop pointing out references galore! It’s sad that the series only has 12 episodes, but I really hope it gets second seasons and even a movie like Kancolle did... Alright, what I’m saying is that I want Azur Lane The Animation to straight-up copy Kancolle The Animation. (Speaking of which, season 2 of Kancolle The Animation is coming and it’s an absolute joke that it’s happening) I want more storylines, I want more ships, I want more Azur Lane anime to exist!
But if this is really gonna be a one-off series, I’ll be forever sad because I won’t get more animated Azur Lane related stuff, I want to see everything being brought to life. Since it’s a big franchise right now, I hope it could get the Fate/Grand Order treatment where there should be different anime by different studios, that’s what I’d love to see!
UPDATE - December 24th: It seems like my dream of more Azur Lane anime is finally becoming true, as they announced an adaptation of the 4koma series!
10/10 - 100% - Rank: S++, I don’t give a shit about what anyone might say about the series’ story or even the animation, I just loved it!
(I’m glad I don’t visit 4chan and I have seen nothing but praise towards Aur Lane The Animation (mostly from Japanese people to see negative comments everywhere so my mind becomes broken and giving me the idea that the general consensus being the series is absolutely terrible, inb4 I share this and tell me otherwise.)
2.- Girls’ Frontline Healing Chapter (JP)*: Yes, I know I already talked about it on my last post, but it’s the Japanese dub we’re talking about and it’s relatively solid. However, there are quite some big changes, starting with the first episode where there’s more sound effects to the battlefield scene where it made the CN version feel poor in comparison, future episodes were having slight changes to the camera as well. Although there are things in the Japanese dub’s acting and scripting that I’m not really satisfied with, but it was still good regardless. Also, forget about “English sub vs dub”, now it’s “Chinese dub vs Japanese dub” now. Though the last few episodes didn’t have much of big changes, other than Chinese text written to Japanese.
The most important thing I have to talk about are these weird post-credits scenes, I have no idea what do these scenes even mean, maybe they just made these scenes as fillers to fill the maximum 4-5 minute run on Japanese TV.
Also, I have to go back to the CN version because, at the time when the first episode of the JP dub aired, the CN dub premiered its final episode and my god, I’m really sad this is over. And now we’re moving on to the other series, Madness Chapter (which you’ll find out as you scroll down this). Man, I really want more of this, I love the art style, but I wish some characters had more screentime and let RO shine!
Goodbye Healing Chapter, it was nice knowing you! ;_;7
Supposedly ShouKin (one of the uploaders for the two Girls’ Frontline anime series, the other being Berizou) found that season 2 for Healing Chapter was confirmed. Sounds awesome but I think I’ll have to wait for more and reliable information about it. Not that ShouKin is not a reliable source, but I really hope we get to hear more of it.
10/10 - 100% - Rank: S++ (Even with the JP dub, you continue to be great)
3.- High Score Girl II*: Supposedly I’ve always been following Moetron’s news about its release and I thought the first 3 episodes were gonna come out on my birthday, it indeed happened in Japan but there has never been any torrent of them and I was seriously disappointed about it! It came out like late October and I was like “What took you so long for this to come out or something?”, there might have been stuff I may have missed that explain these weird releases.
Anyways, moving on talking about the series and all I can think of is that the series continues to give me a big smile, seriously, every time I watch High Score Girl, I always smile for 24 minutes, that’s how powerful this show must be. (Even though everything shown is from the 90s and I was born in 1999, so I’m a 2000s kid, so I probably won’t have any idea of its historical accuracies and references).
Seriously, out of everything JC Staff they made this year, including the absolute garbage that was One Punch Man season 2, High Score Girl is obviously the winner for their best looking anime of the year!
100/100 - 100% - Rank: S++
4.- Fate/Grand Order Babylonia: For the last time, Fate anime adaptations have become quite a hot sensitive topic for me since 2017′s Fate/Apocrypha and 2018′s Fate/Extra Last Encore (And I enjoyed them both), but with Fate/Grand Order Babylonia, I’m qutie impressed, especially with the animation. This is probably the only two-cour series consisting of 21 episodes, it’s a weird number but it’s decent enough, and it’s a very long chapter of the game.
The Type-Moon community seems pretty hateful on other Fate series adaptations, but they’re very chill with Ufotable’s Stay Night adaptations, and nobody really seems to complaint with the New Year’s content and I’m glad for it. (Which by the way, the New Year’s stuff continue to be great! I definitely want it to be a tradition forever.)
5.- Tokunana: This was a relatively fun cop drama with stellar performances, and perhaps it was definitely the most underrated show of the season. The art style reminds me of Shirow Miwa in a way as well.
8/10 - 84% - Rank: A
6.- Beastars: I don’t know much about the story, but my big focus is the animation. Orage continues to deliver great CG animation post-Houseki no Kuni but it suffers the same problems as Sanzigen with the hand-drawn background characters and that shit is seriously annoying.
8/10 - 82% - Rank: A-
Between Beastars and High Score Girl II, I wanted HSGII to be the better looking CG series without blatant hand drawn parts, but I guess it even includes hand drawn parts at times, so having to find which CG anime look better is a hard stretch, perhaps I’m asking too much on what kind of CG anime do I want. Also, I hate to admit, I have to give props to Studio Polygon because they definitely make everything 100% CG. (Or do they? Gah! I don’t know anymore!)
7.- My Hero Academia season 4: Well, I read the manga, it’s no surprising about what even happened with these arcs. (even though when I’m at the current chapters, I forget what happened the previous volumes).
7.5/10 - 75% - Rank: B+
8.- Psycho-Pass 3*: If Tokunana wasn’t enough of a cop drama, then here comes Psycho-Pass 3 which it’s the true definition of a cop drama with the 40 minute runtime.
As someone who wasn’t really offended on Psycho-Pass 2, I’ll have to assume that Psycho-Pass 3 is definitely a breath of fresh air for the series after the movies, perhaps even more.
I’m glad that most of the familiar faces have returned, although it was probably always expected, but there’s just something about Akane, Ginoza and Kogami’s returns from the first few episodes that made me fanboy a little bit, not gonna lie. It’s just that I was really stuck to the marketing and promotional images of the series.
If Psycho-Pass 3 is still somewhat received negatively like Psycho-Pass 2, I don’t know what do you really want from this franchise at this point. At this point you’re definitely thinking that Psycho-Pass should have been a one-off series, but no, most of the fans begged for a second season and so on, they delivered. Don’t try to mess with the creators’ efforts and stuff.
Though my only problem with this season is that I wish the original characters had some more screentime, and then episode 8 didn’t really feel conclusive but I guess that helped to lead up to the upcoming film--which turned out to be a compilation film which gives me a sour taste in my mouth. However, it does confirm that it will indeed conclude the story, for a “compilation film” I don’t know how that might work, but if it’s indeed gonna conclude the story, that’s the main thing I wanted to hear.
7.5/10 - 75% - Rank: B+
First there are anime with 40 minute premieres, movies are a different thing, but a full-fledged TV anime series with a 40 minute runtime? That sure kinda sounds revolutionary but at the same time it’s a total overkill for animators. Besides, I never have the energy to watch anything in 40 minutes, so let’s keep things the way they are with usually having to watch anime series in 20 minutes.
9.- Phantasy Star Online 2 Episode Oracle*: You think that a PSO2 anime that’s actually set in the game’s universe and it’s more serialized could be better than PSO2: The Animation? Well, part of it yeah. But for me, honestly, this was WAY WORSE than PSO2: The Animation for one major reason: This was absolutely rather dark and I wasn’t too comfortable with it.
The animation is kind of alright, it’s not very great but at least Gonzo has definitely improved since the maximum garbage that was 18if.
Is the actual game this dark? Even if I haven’t really seen any story mode (?) cutscenes, from what I’ve seen, I just don’t see it in that light. I haven’t played the JP version (I’d like to but I have difficulties with the download) but I am gonna try to play the English version next year (Can’t believe it’s finally happening).
I just read on MAL that it does adapt these episodes from the actual game but they have anime original content in the process, since I’m not a PSO2 player, I really can’t say for sure if it is indeed faithful but with the anime original stuff, but if it is, well shit.
Surprisingly I haven’t seen some friends I know who play PSO2 talk about Episode Oracle. They have talked about PSO2: The Animation when it came out and they certainly hate it but I can defintely tell they don’t watch Episode Oracle at all (I think it’s for the best).
Anyways, I want to forget this garbage and I want to go back to PSO2: The Animation, it wasn’t that offensively bad after all.
(As of the writing in November 11th, Firefox crashed and I wrote parts of this review a little differently, so I had to rewrite it and it might be different from what I remember, but it’s still decent)
5.5/10 - 53% - Rank: C-
10.- Girls’ Frontline Madness Chapter: Now that Healing Chapter is over, it was time to move on to Madness Chapter, and with the first episode alone... I wasn’t feeling it at all, I’m not super impressed.
Quick info drop, this series is an adaptation of Girls’ Frontline’s in-game 4koma which can be found in the Cafe, though I only play the English version and I assume that the Chinese and Korean servers must have the 4komas like on volume 10 or so.
With that being said about that Madness Chapter adapts the 4koma, there’s just something really off about the animation, it’s just that it’s way too quirky and over the top. It looks more like it’s the true definition of a Chinese anime or something, not for the dub, but for the talent.
Though I have to say, the last few episodes have been really growing on me, but my first impressions will probably remain.
Once Healing Chapter in Japanese ends, I’m definitely expecting Madness Chapter to have Japanese dub as well.
4.5/10 - 45% - Rank: C--
11.- Granblue Fantasy season 2*: A second season with an absolute stepback on animation and decent storyline, everything else is rather forgettable. The Vira episodes were interesting but I couldn’t get myself to care for everything else.
I seriously don't like the new animation at all. A-1 did a very good job on how it looks, but even so, people seem to hate the first season, so the animation in S2 is an absolute downgrade and won't do any favors for me. As for the story so far, I can't really tell if this is from the actual game's campaign (like I said, I stopped at Chapter 17), but I guess it's alright. The most absurd thing about this is that armored characters like the Empire solders and even Apollo are all CG and they look terrible. (Were they CG in the first season too? I can't remember already).
I'm not really one who should be like those "These people shouldn't make cashgrab adaptations doing the story from the very start and instead spend all their money on making OVAs or whatever on their most popular events, like What Makes the Sky Blue?" nazis and I don't give much of a crap about it, but I do really feel like GBF shouldn't really need to be adapted from zero and instead just do any of their popular events or something. I mean, just look at FGO where they only did about one adaptation of the prologue and later they're adapting Babylonia and Camelot, the most popular chapters.
On October 26th, I made a small TwitLonger post detailing my complicated history with GBF and why I’m feeling like I want to walk away from it. (It’s kind of dumb really. And yes, the first paragraphs of this where I gave my first impressions with GBF S2 were straight-up copied from the post).
The most heartbreaking thing that happened in this series is that they showed a Halloween special on November 8th WITH THE FIRST SEASON’S ANIMATION, my god, look how better it was before they went to this crap! This is One-Punch Man season 2 all over again! (But certainly doesn’t top it)

Honorable mentions
BLACKFOX*: I barely had time to watch it exactly on my birthday, but when I saw it the next day, it was a relatively solid and entertaining comic book-like narrated film. Although it may not be the greatest film like I wanted, but it may be for the best because at the time, my brain was absolutely burned from seeing Joker last night to even care for everything else, it’s a masterpiece.
One problem I do have is Melissa, at the end of the film, we see Rikka, Mia and... surprisingly Melissa with a costume and everything. What’s the origin behind it? What about her character development?
I really hope there’s more Blackfox because the teaser at the end seems too good to pass to make a full-fledged series of it.
(Mia best girl.)
8/10 - 85% - Rank: B+
Fire Force: My opinion on the animation, at least in non-action moments, probably remain, but I really like these arcs more, not that I didn’t like the beginning arcs but I’m really liking this direction.
(I don’t know how to define “better” anymore without using “I like X better just because. It tops, it exceeds, etc.”)
7/10 - 72% - Rank: B
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection*: This one’s a little funny because it’s a movie that came out about months ago, but it came out in Mexican theaters on October 11th, since it’s October and it falls into the Fall category (”Falls to Fall” lmao), I’ll have to include it.
Anyways, having watched the compilation films as a road to get into the Code Geass series, Lelouch of the Re;surrection was good, but it did get me confused at times, I have a lot of questions about what was going on, but the post-credits scene got me the most confused, I don’t know if it was meant to be a teaser, but the way this scene happened is kind of ambiguous.
Even though watching the compilation films may or may not be the best method to get into Code Geass, I had to do it so I could have saved time, if I were to watch the series, it would have taken me forever. Besides, Lelouch of the Re;surrection is from the compilation films’ canon, so it’s something, I guess.
Moving on, the most baffling thing I have to talk about are the technical issues in my cinema. Like around the beginning of the film, the part where Lelouch blows up Shesthaal, the audio cuts off, they had to pause the run of the film a couple of minutes and rewinded some. People in my cinema, while thankfully not very loud with whistles and all, were definitely complaining about the issue, while my older sister and I were just laughing silently and smh’ing.
8.5/10 - 85% - Rank: A-
Lupin the 3rd Prison of the Past: I genuinely didn’t expect there would be another Lupin the 3rd OVA. It’s been months since I saw Goodbye Partner.
It’s probably unintentional but something tells me that releasing this OVA now is like a lead-up to the Lupin the 3rd CG movie in December in Japan.
There’s one thing I’m not happy about is that there wasn’t a memorial for Monkey Punch or anything (but does that “Monkey” branded chewing gum count? Sounds a little insulting), or this might have been made a while before Monkey Punch passed away, but they should have included something like that.

Anticipated
This is the last anime season of the decade and now we’re gonna reach the first lineup of new anime in the new decade. I of course wouldn’t watch literally every single anime in existence, like I always do with every season, but here are some of the very first anime of the 2020 decade I want to watch!
(I’m surprised no one is hyping up how we’re getting our first anime of the 2020 decade)
I should also try to keep track on everything I want to watch because I think I may forget when they’re gonna come out.
Quintessential Quintuplets season 2 - January ???: A few months ago I binged the series and I seriously can’t believe I slept on this, it was hilarious and pure at times, so I can’t wait to watch more. Though I haven’t read the manga (but I’d like to some day) but it’s enough for me to go blind and enjoy the series.
Speaking of the manga, the series will end on its 14th volume next year and we’re so close on that happening because volume 13 will be released in January 17th 2020. I’ll be sad to see this series go but I’m interested to see what the creator will make next and if the anime keeps getting new seasons, we might actually see the series finale get adapted.
[UPDATE - January 4th 2020: As of now, there hasn’t been any news about Quintessential Quintuplets S2 lately, no promos or anything. I think at this point it’s probably delayed until Spring.]
Heya Camp - January 6th: It may not be season 2 of Yuru Camp (yet) but I’m glad there’s going to be more coziness with the short series lifted from the previews from the base series.
Isekai Quartet season 2 - January 14th: I’m definitely hype for more Isekai Quartet and that teaser with the new classmates at the end of the first season finale is not to be wasted, and those new classmates happened to be Naofumi, Raphtalia and Filo from Rising of Shield Hero. As of the writing this in December 1st, I’m planning to binge Shield Hero, I have pretty much watched every isekai series featured in Isekai Quartet, so I don’t want to be left out with Shield Hero. Regardless of what I heard about the series, I’m still gonna watch it anyways. (Finished watching on December 5th and... DAMN, I REALLY LIKED IT. FUCK THEM SJWs!)
Bang Dream season 3 - January 23rd: It would have been amazing if Sangizen were to do the Bubuki Buranki thing with the first season in Winter and the second season in Fall, but they deserve to take their time.
Madoka Magica Magia Record - January 4th: Fall 2019 was quite stuffed with anime based on gacha, Fate/Grand Order Babylonia, Azur Lane The Animation and Granblue Fantasy The Animation, but Madoka Magica Magia Record is the one show based on the mobile game that decided to not to join the party and it’s kinda funny.
Nekopara - January 9th: That’s right, there’s going to be a full fledged Nekopara TV series now. This is the most unnecessary anime to exist since there already was a plethora of OVAs, there’s no need to make a TV series of the VN now. I don’t have time to rush through the VN if I want to buy it (Most likely from Steam and buy the adult patch too) but I don’t have the money to do it, well, it may depend from my interest and time to try to play it because I’m a bit behind with Saya no Uta.
Speaking of adult content, I’m expecting a bit of fan service somewhere because they wouldn’t do the full blown hentai scenes. Pretty standard VN adapation rules.
Dorohedoro - January 12th.
Danmachi OVA - January 29th.
ID:Invaded - January 5th.
Ishizoku Reviewers - January 11th: I seriously haven’t watched any ecchi series in a long time, and reading the synopsis alone, I’m really intrigued in checking this one out.
There’s quite of anime to look forward to in 2020 but I haven’t been keeping track on what do I want to watch, though I know some that may come in that year, but I’m not gonna get into that since this is just for Winter 2020, I’ll address that in my “10 year journey” post.
Tumblr media
The future of the seasonal anime review series
Since this is my last seasonal anime review post in Tumblr, I’ll probably continue making lists either by tweeting them out or will have to make a Discord channel in my private server, but it’s probably more about anticipated shows, for seasonal reviews, I’ll have to do Tier Maker images, probably for the best because I’ve been making a bit of a weird inconsistencies with ranking shows with scores and ranks, so I’ll probably have to stick to only ranks with Tier Maker from now on.
Although to be honest, I’m not sure if anyone would really care about what am I gonna watch, did I like a show or not, but at the same time, I forget people do really care as they’re quite the show-offs and ofcourse discussions galore. So I think I’ll keep doing what I’m doing but in a more simple way.
Tumblr media
And that’s it, we’re done here. This is the end of the seasonal anime review Tumblr post series, though nobody had really read these posts before, but I finally got my first audition with the Karoshi Discord server from the beginning of this post. I’ve had fun making these posts, even if lately I’ve been getting burnt out but I still enjoyed writing these.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, thank you for the birthday wishes, a day early and even on the very same day.
With a day early, particularly from my Japanese friends, especially you @hinosuna0720/@hinosuna3D21 (NSFW content, viewer discretion is advised) for giving me sweet images with my Custom Maid 3D2 OCs, and you even gifted me VA-11 HALL-A and I’m seriously grateful. I also want to congratulate @ryuuunnji for giving me a picture too.
And on the actual day, I want to thank for @SALthePAL95 making me drawings of my new OCs! And speaking of drawings, my older sister made me one too (but I won’t show it, sorry), it’s been a long time since she made me one... ;-;
And I, of course, want to thank everyone else who has given me birthday wishes!
This 20th birthday was definitely the best I’ve ever had in my life, I’ve had some really sweet surprises that I’ve always been looking for, and I wish my future birthdays continue to be this good, especially in the next decade.
(Not you @kirishima_ss. Thankfully it was a day after my birthday but, come on... (he blocked me)) 🖕🔪 (Although that did teach me a valuable lession: I’m not gonna promote my birthday literally every day ever again, because I was seriously getting pretentious)
Anyways, it’s time for making these Tumblr posts to stop, but alas, there’s one more Tumblr post to make, it’s a whole different topic but it’s extremely important, it’s super long but I hope you’ll understand. See you there. Also, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.

A New Local Film: “Nothing Really Happens”
Houston isn’t exactly known for a booming film industry, but local filmmakers Justin Petty and Joey Graham are breaking the mold and just completed their first feature length film, Nothing Really Happens, which was entirely shot in the city. Written and directed by Petty and produced by Graham, who also stars in the film, the surrealist comedy presents a unique take on adapting to adulthood. Following the completion of the film, Free Press Houston spoke with Petty and Graham about its conception, filming and their plans for a release.
Free Press Houston: How did the idea to make a full length film come about and what inspired the script?
Justin Petty: It was around 2013. Joey and I had been making comedy shorts as The Straight Guys for several years at that point and I don’t think we ever officially called it quits, but there had been a general feeling within the group that we wanted to try something different. I was nearing 30 and the idea kind of originally came about with me looking at that and trying to make sense of what it means to be a grown 30 year old man, mainly because I certainly didn’t feel like I had any right to call myself an adult. That and the idea has always been interesting to me that there is a communication barrier between people that interact everyday simply because they are so wrapped up in their own personal stuff, or simply don’t care. I had recently watched the film Wrong by Quentin Dupieux [Mr. Oizo] and its awkward, surreal tone kind of struck a chord with me and, while very different from what we ultimately ended up with, it acted as fuel for this 15 page short film I wrote. I went through the script over a few beers with Joey and Richard, the other guys in The Straight Guys. The result of that was them basically saying, “This is a good start but what happens next?” From that point, I just kept writing pages and sending them to Joey. I had never intended to write a feature. I wanted to ease into bigger projects with a short film we could push into festivals, but Joey kept pushing me to write more and to see where this story took us. I ended up with a lot of pages. Well over 2 hours worth. In the end, we slimmed it down to around 90 pages and it had become a vastly different thing than what we started with.
Joey Graham: Please forgive us for The Straight Guys. But yeah, I was kind of done with internet sketch comedy around the age of 30 as well, and wanted to do some other things. I liked the peculiar vibe of his thing Justin wrote so I just kept pressuring the hell out of him to finish it. Still am really….there’s a few more things to do to finish the movie.
FPH: How long did it take to complete?
Petty: Writing the script took about a year and a half with about 9 different drafts in total. Shooting took another year and a half and post production has taken us a little over 6 months.
Graham: Ugh. Too long. Luckily my beard didn’t go completely gray.
FPH: How did you find locations to shoot in Houston?
Petty: I went into this project knowing if we were going to realistically be able to make a film, we had to work around what was available to us. So much of the film takes place in residences, parks and yards. We would just kind of come together as a group and talk about connections and friends who had interesting looking houses or access to fun locations and go from there. We did a bit of scouting for some of the outdoor scenes and scoped out a few parks around Houston. We tried to see what we could get away with quickly in public with a small crew while not drawing too much attention to ourselves.
Graham: Yeah. We utilized the Houston Film Commission a bit. But mostly just talking to people. We only did super illegal shit for one scene.
FPH: Can you tell me how you found the actors?
Petty: The original short was written with a specific friend in mind as lead, but as I started developing the characters and fleshing out the story more, I realized we needed to go in a different direction. Our lead, Adam Edwards, had been a friend of ours for a while and worked with us periodically some music video productions. I don’t remember the specific moment we decided Adam was right for the role but we both kind of realized he was the only person who could play Dave. There could be no one else.
Graham: I told JP, Adam had the most emotive eyes, and the most free time. That’s like 80% of acting. A lot of the other casting was just cherry picking people we love from past comedy shorts or music videos. We had produced a few of Fat Tony’s music videos, so we had to bring him in as the talking mime. We had done a few videos for The Suffers so we snuck Kam Franklin in as a phone operator. And so on.
FPH: What are your plans for a release?
Petty: Our goal is to hit the festivals hard in the fall. We’re planning on submitting to various Texas festivals for sure but who knows. Depending on the budget we have to work with after the fundraiser, we’d like to get it in as many festivals across the country — world? — as we can afford. The more audience members we can get in front of this thing, the happier we’ll be. We don’t have any official plans for an actual release yet, but we’d like to see where the festival circuit takes us and go from there.
Graham: Festivals aren’t what they used to be for indie film. But a true indie like this doesn’t really have a ton of other options. It’s a movie about a mattress store owner, not a documentary on Mattress Mack…which probably has, uh, some sort of built in audience.
FPH: How can people see it?
Petty: We’re currently doing an IndieGogo fundraiser to support the cost of our festival entries where you can buy a ticket to our private cast and crew screening on June 26th as one of the perks. We’d like to do a few more test screenings around Houston to feel out how the film is received… maybe make some minor changes along the way, but we don’t have anything officially planned yet.
Graham: Yeah. Come to the screening. It’s a really weird movie. Bring drugs.
FPH: How does it feel now that it’s completed?
Petty: This thing has been a labor of love for us for several years now and it feels super weird that we’ve finally gotten here. 4 years ago I never could’ve imagined we’d be sitting here with a completed feature film and it kind of amazes and terrifies me. It’s real and now people are going to ingest it. That’s crazy. The hard work of so many people have gone into this and it’s kind of a small miracle when any film reaches completion in tact, let alone one that was funded out of pocket and was made on nights and weekends over the course of multiple years. I want to thank everyone that sweated for this thing to exist.
Graham: Justin stole my small miracle line. This thing has driven me crazy, and it’s equally crazy to be done. I can go back to living a normie life after this. Thank God.

The Joys of Localization
Hi, everyone. Rubia here. Just popping on by to do something a little more blog-related.
One thing I’ve come to be inspired from Ace Attorney is undoubtedly the hard work by Capcom US and their localization team.
Sure, plenty of us may still be a bit bitter about the uncertain status of DGS, especially that the sequel is coming out within this year or early in the next (or so I speculate). But I offer comforting news.
Since Producer Eshiro behind AAI, AAI2, DD, and SoJ has officially teamed up with Director Takumi on DGS2, the chances are more likely that DGS will be localized. For one, Capcom US doesn’t need to worry about AA7 any time soon. For another, it goes to show Capcom JP is putting DGS2 in high gear by having Eshiro and Takumi team up. They haven’t met for production of a game since AJ. This is great for prospects and we may see the game come out sooner than later.
As usual, I’ll be here to offer translations and discussions as needed when we get more info.
But enough about DGS. I’m here to talk about something a little different: one great reason for localization.
It’s going to get a little winded here, so I’ll keep it under the Keep Reading link.
Why am I such a staunch supporter of Americanization of a Japanese game obviously set in Japan? Actually, I’m not. I just really enjoy seeing people work miracles with language.
You see, localization is a much more complicated process than meets the eye. It’s not just about rewriting names of characters and places for puns or about throwing popculture references. It’s about exploring the extent of language and the merging of two very different cultures to reach a greater audience.
Janet Hsu has said her thoughts on it on her blog. Go check it out at Capcom-Unity if you haven’t yet. Now I’d like to share mine.
One of my favorite things of localizing is within the very script. Take this hypothetical example I dredged up from the back of my mind. It’s how I imagine Nick and Maya’s first encounter if they had met in happier circumstances.
Mayoi:
Naruhodo:
Now, we’re not here to judge me on how terribly I’ve tried to mimic Takumi’s style. (You may if you want.) Rather, this simple conversation opens up a multitude of possibilities.
A literal translation may go like this:
Mayoi: Uwah! This is the rumored subordinate?
Naruhodo: N-nice to meet you. (“Rumored subordinate”, you say…)
Mayoi: Yes, nice to meet you too. …No, this should be casual, huh. Nice to meetcha, Naruhodo-kun!
Naruhodo: Eh? N-nice to meet you. (She’s a casual girl, alright.)
It looks alright, but it still seems awkward. Not to mention, “Naruhodo-kun” is a mouthful to say and spell with how frequently it shows up with her. That’s where the freedom in localization comes in. How could we make it sound more natural?
If we take the in-game example at the end of case 2, it could work like this:
Maya: Wow! So you’re the guy Mia told me about!
Phoenix: Uh, yes. That’s me. (I’m not just “some guy” to you, am I…?)
Maya: Cool. Nice to meet you. …Nah, let’s make things casual. Yo, what’s up, Nick! You don’t mind if I call you that, right? Mia told me that’s what your friends call you.
Phoenix: Huh? Oh, uh, sure. (Well, that didn’t take her long…)
It looks and feels totally different. Maybe even a bit too different? We’ve partically lost their original character personalities by tweaking the dialogue.
Yet, it’s probably for the best. If we were to take it by the translation, only rewrite a few things so it doesn’t sound so clunky, we’d still run into a big problem:
“Naruhodo-kun” and “Nick” aren’t equivalent.
Sure, it’s how he’s always been known, but the original speaker is different. Chihiro (Mia) came up with “Naruhodo-kun” since she’s his boss and likes name puns apparently. But it’d be too inappropriate for her to call him “Nick”, even if they are on friendly terms. She is still his boss and needs to sound more professional.
So, that’s where Larry comes in. He fits the bill just right and can very easily come up with a nickname (heh, pun) for Nick here. It may require Maya to say an extra line to explain where she got it, but it’s easier to fill in a text box to the brim than it is to reprogram in a new set of lines just to explain context. They wouldn’t need to if they kept “Naruhodo-kun”, but even I’m getting tired of spelling it out here.
But there’s an alternative route it could have taken… like so:
Maya: Wow! So you’re Mia’s junior partner?
Phoenix: Uh, yes. That’s me. (Not sure what’s there to “wow” about, though…)
Maya: Okay. It’s nice to meet you. …No, we should be more casual about this. Hey, Phoenix! Let’s do good together!
Phoenix: Huh? Oh, uh, sure. (She's a pretty casual girl, alright…)
This would be more inline with the original translation and it still works just fine. This is probably the style of writing I see often in the fan localization of GK2. It’s good, but it’s still lacking something… something unique to give it its own flavor and power.
This is the main reason why I’m not that fond of how some parts of GK2 were localized. It just didn’t seem enough was changed to really make the conversation pop. I realize there’s only so much you can do with alternative interpretations of a Japanese dialogue already riddled with clunkiness, but they had plenty of freedom to rework things and I was just a bit disappointed in this regard.
It’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it all the same, and those who did work on it have all my praise and blessings for a job well done and saving this brilliant game from oblivion. I just regret I didn’t do as much as I could have due to time restraints, and as a result, I didn’t quite make it into the credits.
But that’s life. And that’s just a slice of the hard work that goes into localization.
Thanks for reading.
