the end of Germ Warfare is very endearing and also very interesting to me
first of all, Frank playing checkers (maybe chess? I didnt see clearly) with the POW (apologies I didnt catch his name and he's only credited as POW) is a very interesting choice. I absolutely cannot see this happening by Frank's later seasons, because by then his racism was off the charts, but here in the first season I think it really fits. Frank is still racist, thats established and even if it was in doubt we know he's been trying to get this man out of the camp all episode, but its not at that cartoonish level it is later on. this tracks as far as Frank's characterization through the seasons goes- there's a lot more nuance to Frank in his earlier seasons than there is later on. he'll play checkers with a POW. he'll ask for Hawkeye for help in surgery. he'll tell Hawkeye to go get some rest. he'll go spend time with Hawkeye and Trapper just to spend time with them. these nuances are all but gone by s4, which is unfortunate
its also very sweet that Hawkeye and Trapper bring him flowers. lets be real, they were nasty with him this episode. they literally stole his blood while he was sleeping. they dont actually say theyre sorry, but they might as well say it. flowers, "no hard feelings", messing with him a bit. its pretty adorable that they start ribbing him and he responds by chucking the flowers at them. reminds me a lot of the end of 5 O'Clock Charlie where theyre teasing him and he goes to get a drink with them. very sweet

an excellent example of “I Know why this is happening in reality, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work excellently in the story” is that naturally Alan Alda was tired from travelling between set and his family every week for x years + directing and writing and acting on the show + doing other projects on top of that, and that he was ageing appropriately for the 11 years of filming, and was already a few years older than Hawkeye is meant to be when we first meet him (with a bit of early grey hairs, but not massively considering he was going on 40 by the time that seems to have started)
but the show only spans what? three years and a bit? and Hawkeye is late 20s/early 30s? so Hawkeye is a young man who goes from tired-but-hanging-in-there to going grey and visibly ageing in the span of a few months, with deep grooves of permanent exhaustion on his whole face

Hey I just realized I have no idea what this 'Warehouse' stuff is all about and I've just been assuming it's a show about ghosts?? Is it about ghosts???
mmm, not rlly!
warehouse 13 is more abt cursed objects linked with famous people or historic events over the course of history! the warehouse tracks them down and neutralizes them and then stores them in a special warehouse designed for this sort of thing (i.e. snag-bag-tag). it’s more of a steampunk variant of the case of the week type thing w the magical objects & whatnot. it’s the sister show to eureka, which focused more on the department of defense using this secret town to experiment with the cursed objects and how they can be used for national defense.
both are syfy, so the effects work is a bit subpar, but they’re fun enough :)) i still cry over the travesty that’s s5 wh13 (if you could even call it a season….), but it makes for a fun found family dynamic. esp in artie and claudia, who are chrysi’s grandpa and sister respectively.

one of my favourite things about beejhawk is that we canonically have a character looking at them together and announcing that they are making her feel sick. i just think that's beautiful.

i watch the nurses, i am once again filled with longing for a version of mash where the nurses are properly recurring characters who get scenes together regularly
it’s not like the show doesn’t have consistent tertiary characters, just add a couple more women and write them a couple subplots per season, it wouldn’t have been that hard surely

everyone in s5 talks to jon like he personally intended to end the world when he was just like eating dinner and accidentally set off the nuclear bomb detonator that someone hid under the mashed potatoes. he didnt even know you could do that. Like i know things are tough but give the man a break

me: yes eleven seasons to depict a three-year war could be considered overlong and there’s an argument to be made about the exhaustion felt in the later seasons, especially as the messaging became blurrier and the actors visibly aged into their late 40s, but there’s a lot to take from the structure about the repetitive nature of war, trauma, and insulated environments, the way it wears down everyone until even the most idealistic don’t know how to interact with good and bad and in/sanity anymore, and there’s an inherent tragedy to never letting them leave, until the very idea that there might be an end is itself a form of horror, an exhalation, or some kind of death-
me: only eleven seasons of hawkeye? my good friend hawkeye? my buddy hawkeye whom we love to see? my baby boy hawkeye who is experiencing the horrors? why not fifteen twenty hundred seasons of hawkeye? why not ageless hawkeye who is forever trapped in the repetition and never grows older and grows older and older at the same time? more hawkeye stuck forever? I wanna see hawkeye? no more hawkeye? maybe i’ll just rewatch season one

Get to know you game! Answer the questions and tag 9 people you want to know better.
tagged by @livepoultryfreshkilled hiiiii<3 i've never been tagged in one of these! or i have but then i forgor to do it. alas
Last song listened to: not counting background music and soundtracks from watching tv or youtube i believe i was listening to The Communists Have the Music by They Might Be Giants a few days ago? just because the sick ass music video popped up on my youtube tab and i was wasting time. yes i can go days without willingly listening to music sorry to the musicheads everywhere
Currently reading: still Las Malas by Camila Sosa Villada. yes it's been months and i am still trying to get through this really short and easy read. it's an unbelievably good book though if you speak spanish you should read it. rough and raw semi-autobiographical travesti magical realism
Currently watching: actively i've been binging GLOW i have like two episodes left i got really hooked! it's such a good show i'm already so fucking pissed it got cancelled and i haven't even gotten to the cliffhanger yet. but the more i learn about this cancellation the more pissed i get. also very funny that whenever i watch a tv show about women doing sports i'm like "omg i should do that" my friend said it's like sports anime to me and she's so right. other than that i'm still getting through Laverne & Shirley (S5), The X-Files (S4), Columbo (S8), and i've been watching a bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (S1) with my little sister!
Currently obsessed with: i am in such a slump lately i'm not gonna lie to you. am i obsessed with anything rn? up until one or two weeks ago it was Starsky & Hutch occupying my every waking thought but i've calmed down about them i think rn. uhh. of course Quantum Leap and MASH always on the mind. well i've been trying to grow some plants (Hutch core) but they all keep dying except for my loyal pothus (Starsky core).
augh tagging 9 people this part is always the worst i feel like i'm annoying and also inevitably leaving out people. FEEL FREE TO IGNORE noooo pressure but beloved friends and mutuals @alukardtheabysswalker (birthday guy!!!) @kittymoding @archerism @theboost @just-a-fucked-up-kid @argentinosaurus @pomegranate @opqrstuv04 @dykebeckett @simpmasterv2 + bonus @aheathenconceivably what are you guys up to lately! ily
