As a kid, Sokka’s freckles are super pale and barely there unless you’re looking right up close. When he starts traveling with Aang and getting more sun exposure in hotter climates they start popping up EVERYWHERE, especially in the fire nation where the sun is so close and so important, and Agni blesses him with more marks than he’s ever seen.

After they get together, Zuko realizes how much he loves the little dots on Sokka’s skin. He absently traces invisible paths between the ones on his shoulders in the soft moments when they’re lying together in the morning light before Sokka stirs. He makes it a secret goal to kiss each mark that’s spattered across the planes of his lover’s face and it makes Sokka giggle, a bright and safe sound that warms him from the inside out. When he’s having a particularly bad day and his council is being especially terrible, he calms himself down by trying to count each visible freckle between his arm wrappings and his sleeves.

He loves them because they’re beautiful, because they’re Sokka… and because they’re a reminder that though his own mark in Agni’s name was born of cruelty, these tiny flecks are direct gift from the sun. They’re a reminder that fire is life, and life can be good, if he lets it.

Our dog Bec has been having health issues lately. Most symptoms were manageable, he was still happy and running around and eating until about a week ago when things took a turn for the worst.

He's lost so much weight, he refuses to eat and he can't even keep water down anymore. He's barely got the strength to move around and chooses to sleep most of the day.

He's very old and his quality of life has gone down astronomically in only a matter of months, and we don't want him to suffer with his health complications anymore. We got an estimate that it would cost somewhere between $500-600 to have him put down and cremated and we can't afford that right now.

currently thinking about Barriss as a foil for Ahsoka in TCW is such a good example of the nature vs. nurture argument. they had basically the exact same upbringing until they were 14 or so, whenever each of them became a Padawan.

and then in TCW we see Ahsoka with this whole support system or people who love and care about her!! Anakin and Rex and Padmé and Plo and Obi-Wan and more!! and they tell her and/or show her that they care about her!!

and then Barriss has no one, aside from her friendship with Ahsoka. Luminara cares about Barriss to an extent, and she’s certainly not malicious, but she acts at best apathetic toward Barriss. (of course Luminara is just following the Jedi Code as she sees it, but still.) it’s most evident in the Geonosis arc when Luminara is basically ready to just leave Barriss for dead, while Anakin never gives up on Ahsoka. but it goes beyond just Luminara — in TCW, we never see Barriss close to anyone else.

so Barriss is the one who becomes a “villain.” I’m absolutely a Barriss defender, so I don’t want to call her that, but that’s obviously what the writers intended. she turns on the Jedi (understandably) and she turns on Ahsoka. she’s not inherently a bad person, she just didn’t get the love and support she needed, whereas Ahsoka did :(
