random moments from great comet that are good pt.1
(no sense nor clarity included)
chandeliers and caviar // the world can’t touch us here (with the scale down afterwards)
i love that dolokhov says he’s not important and then goes on to be pretty important
“he’s charming he has no sex” very accurate
i’m different from you // i’m different from you // i still want to do something
the beat drop before “or do you struggle too?”
marya dmitryevna akhrosimova // countess natalya ilyinichna rostova (the names are so satisfying omg)
marya dmitryevna akhrosimova // sofia alexandrovna rostova (same thing i love the names)
WELCOME WELCOME TO MOSCOW
“my cheeks are glowing from the cold”
i can HURT YOU (yes go off)
and nothing ever happens to me // and countess natalya nostova is coming for tea (i love mary so much ahhh)
WHERE ARE MY GLASSES // they are there upon his head
and from the first glAnce // i do not like natasha
the way natasha and mary’s voices overlap during “constrained and strained” is SO good i love it
the cute little laugh after “it’s our secret”
announcing fedya dolokhov // he dominates moscow’s most brilliant young men (my annotation from my copy of war and peace at this moment is just “icon” and i still stand by that)
the silence with the beat before “this was hélène’s brother // anatole kuragin”

I MADE THIS FUCKIN ACCOUNT JUST TO MAKE THIS POST SO BUCKLE YOUR SEATBELTS MOTHERFUCKERS
FYODOR DOLOKHOV IS THE TRUE NARRATOR OF NATASHA, PIERRE, AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812
Please exuse me if everyone else already knows this and I'm just figuring it out, I haven't interacted with the fandom much oop
If I'm NOT the last person on this train, then HEAR ME OUT PLEASE
During Great Comet, there are three different ways of narration. Two are for physical actions.
First, narrating yourself. This can be done in first or third person, (this in itself is interesting, but I'll talk about this another time), eg. "Anatole followed with his usual jaunty step," or "I blush happily."
Second, narrating another character. eg. "And Anatole entered the box." or "and he draws her to him, and kisses her hand." or "as we danced, he pressed my waist in hand, and told me I was bewitching."
The third way, though? Harder to explain. Talking directly to the audience, breaking the fourth wall. This is only done by the entire ensemble (Prologue, which is separate from the story in its entirety, or the bit in letters with "in nineteenth century russia we write letters") or by Dolokhov. Some examples are "A letter which I composed," and "the plan for natalie rostova's abduction had all been arranged etc."
But how is "A letter which I composed" any different from, say, "I drink too much."?
Simple. Pierre is monologuing. He's talking to the world in general. Dolokhov is cutting in to break the fourth wall in a situation where he shouldn't be able to talk at all, as he's not "onscreen." Natasha is alone in her room in-universe, which is what we're technically witnessing. Anatole is on-stage to read out the letter, because it's from him, and she's probably imagining it in his voice, even though he's not actually the one who wrote it. Dolokhov is aware of what's happening, what's being said in what context, without being there in-universe. He's talking straight to the audience.
I'll probably die if I try to shove more in here right now but if you want more evidence (I have more) i dunno like this or reblog or some shit
