Australian actor Chris Hemsworth turns 39 today! I know he will never read this but I wish him a happy birthday. I love him with all my heart, I worship him as a living god and I find him magnificent! I love his roles, I love his alpha male attitude, and he's very funny.

Chris Hemsworth is a great beauty, and I've already talked about him so much on my blog that I'm surprised I always have things to say about him. His beauty is only part of what makes him a god. He is tall, has silky hair, beautiful blue eyes, a well-trimmed beard which gives him a manly but not aggressive air, bulging muscles ideal for playing THOR....

Je l'aime de tout mon cœur, je le vénére comme un dieu vivant et je le trouve magnifique ! J'aime ses rôles, j'aime son attitude de mâle alpha, et il est très drôle.

Chris Hemsworth est d'une grande beauté, et j'ai déjà tellement parlé de lui sur mon blog que je m'étonne d'avoir toujours avoir des choses à dire sur lui. Sa beauté n'est qu'une partie de ce qui fait de lui un dieu. Il est grand, a des cheveux soyeux, de beaux yeux bleus, une barbe bien taillée qui lui donne un air viril mais pas agressif, des muscles saillants idéaux pour jouer THOR....

The Long and Complicated History of Captain Marvel(s)

I’m fascinating by the history of Captain Marvel and all the lawsuits spawned by his ownership. You can find bits and pieces of the story all over the internet, but here’s my summary.

1938 - Superman was first published in Action Comics #1

1939 - Captain Marvel appeared in Whiz Comics #1. Over the years National made threats to Fawcett over copyright infringement. Today I don’t think Cap was a copy of Superman, but at the dawn of the Comic industry maybe is wasn’t quite so black & white.

1940s - Captain Marvel sold better and spun off sidekicks Cap Jr and Mary.

1950s - Sales dropped and many superhero titles were canceled. In the dwindling market National sued Fawcett for copyright infringement. Because of lower sale, Fawcett decided it wasn’t worth the fight and stopped publishing Captain Marvel.

Meanwhile a company in England had been republishing Captain Marvel comics. Without new stories they contracted with Nick Andros to develop something new. He created a thin imitation of Captain Marvel called MarvelMan (but with blond hair). He used the word KIMOTA (atomic backwards) to transform. His sidekicks were Marvel Man Jr. And Kid Marvelmen. This comic continued thru the early 1960s

1961 - Stan Lee reinvented Timely/Atlas Comics into Marvel Comics with Fantastic Four #1.

1966 - Publisher MF Enterprises released a comic called Captain Marvel about an android who could detached pieces of his body by saying “Split!” It only ran 4 issues. Stan Lee must have notice!

1967 - Stan Lee created his version of Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) and trademarked the name. This would prevent other publishers from using the name.

1972 - DC licensed the right’s of Fawcett’s Captain Marvel (then later bought the rights). BUT because Marvel had the trademark, DC couldn’t use the name as title of the comic. After a false star using the name Captain Thunder, DC started using Shazam as the comic title (and eventually renamed the character Shazam).

1977 - Marvel introduced Ms Marvel featuring Carol Danvers. It would take 35 years until Danver’s got the Captain Marvel name in 2012!

1982 - Back in England Alan Moore started using the (Nick Andros) MarvelMan in a new more adult themed comic - published in a B&W monthly called Warrior. In this update version a middle aged man discovers he was once a superhero.

1985 - US publisher Eclipses Comics publishes reprints of Moore’s Marvelman run, BUT because of Marvel’s trademark, they renamed him MiracleMan.

Ownership of the newly named MiracleMan got a little murky. Moore and the original artist gave their rights to the writer/artists who followed them. They eventually were given to writer Neil Gaiman with issue #17 in 1990.

1990 - aiman wrote two story lines in the next 7 issues - The Golden Age and The Silver Age.

1994 - Before Gaiman’s issue #25 was published, Eclipse Comics went bankrupt and the last issue of The Silver Age story was never published.

(During the period from Moore to Gaiman, MiracleMan became a cult hit. That’s when I read the comic. If you haven’t, I highly recommend it.).

1996 - Todd McFarlane bought the rights to Eclipse Comics assets and in 2001 claimed he owned all rights to MiracleMan. He planned to introduce the character in his Spawn comic line. The character appeared in one issue and McFarlane created some action figures and a statue called Man of Miracles.

2002 - Neil Gaiman sued McFarlane. (He agreed to write “Marvel 1602” an alt-Avenger miniseries to fund his lawsuit against McFarlane). Gaiman won the case.

2009 - Curiously it was also determined that Nick Andros still owned the rights to his original MarvelMan. So McFarlane didn’t own any piece of the character.

2010 - Marvel Comics bought the rights from Nick Andros for his MarvelMan and republished some of his old 1960s stories.

2013 - Marvel bought Neil Gaiman’s rights to MiracleMan.

2014 - Marvel started republished Moore’s through Gaiman’s stories. They even hired Gaiman to finish his long lost story. BUT when they reached issue #22 it stopped due to another undisclosed legal issue!!!

2021 - In December Marvel announced the issues were resolved and new MiracleMan comics would resume in 2022.
