Happy International Women's Day to disabled women, neurodivergent women, poor women, fat women, queer women, women of color, Jewish women, Muslim women, women who are sex workers, women who are addicts, women who are homeless, women who are single mothers. ♀️

Of course, the burkini ban is messed up on grounds of religious freedom and racial discrimination. But also
Under any other circumstances, people would be HORRIFIED at a government mandate that women have to show a certain amount of skin. Like. That’s fucking dystopian, and the absolute opposite of feminism. If a government tried to pass a law that all women had to wear tube tops and miniskirts to go outside, people would rightfully be up in arms demanding blood
But because it’s targeting a marginalized religious group, many folks are lauding the blatant forced sexualization of women. Appalling
(apparently the ban also outlaws things like sun – protecting bathing suits if they cover too much skin. Which like. Yes, let’s give everyone skin cancer just so we can spite a religion we’ve decided to hate. Sounds like a good plan </s>)

People not grasping what "trans men hold power over trans women" means is probably the most frustrating part of talking abt intracommunity transmisogyny

Y’know before things went to shit a popular topic amongst jewish users on this site was about cultural Christianity, and a large part of that discussion was pointing out that certain ways of talking/acting/thinking were rooted in Christian culture, and were not culturally neutral, and the expectation of Jews (and people from non-culturally-Christian backgrounds in general) to conform to them was an expectation to assimilate and abandon our own cultural ways of talking/acting/thinking.
And this collective conversation has largely been abandoned as Jews on this platform now have much more loud and blatant forms of antisemitism to worry about
But I can’t really stop thinking about how ostracization, public shaming, guilt, conversational shut-downs, harassment, and throwing ad hominem buzzwords at various people to not have to engage directly with opposing ideas enough to form an actual counterargument have all been a serious issue with how people operate in left-leaning online spaces for a long time now, and how those things are also very common methods of group control in a lot of the more… well, controlling and loudly bigoted sects of American Christianity, with roots in American Puritanism.
And I think a lot of people who want to think of themselves as leftists or even activists should really take a step back and more deeply analyze their methods/praxis of realizing their ideals and how they interact with other people, whether or not they’re actually willing to be constructive about things, etc.
Like is burning bridges, shutting down conversations, refusing to engage intellectually with things you don’t like, callouts, etc… actually helpful and useful? Why is this the method so many default to, and where does it come from?

Detective Benoit Blanc giving a black woman the power to burn the whole system to the ground herself is probably the most overlooked and underrated part of The Glass Onion

"The prince with a thousand enemies" quote hits different when you're marginalized
The full quote is like 80% despair and 20% hope. Basically, God says to the semi-divine Prince of Rabbits "everything in this world wants to catch and kill you. But while you are powerless, you are not helpless. Run fast, hide well, warn and help others like you and you will never be erased from this earth." El-ahrairah is not given weapons but tools to help him and his people survive (claws to dig havens, ears to listen, legs to run, feet to thump and warn). And despite how hard it is for him to survive, despite all his enemies, he is still noble, admirable and possessing dignity. He is a Prince.

disliking specific real life trans people for their abusive or hateful behavior isn’t transphobia or transmisogyny lol

As a disabled woman, sometimes I just want to talk about being a disabled woman and to other disabled women.
My support for disabled men, nonbinary, and trans people doesn't factor into this. I'm a disabled woman. Let me be a disabled woman with other disabled women. Let our lives be about us. We can care about other people without making everything about other people. Our lives and our experiences are still our own. Sometimes I just want to talk about me on my blog, ok?
Ableism and misogyny do intersect. We're not making things up either. And we should be able to talk about this, without any whataboutism.
Disabled women exist. We are allowed to talk about ourselves and to each other.

Being a woman does not make you immune to being misogynistic, nor does it make you any less prone to being misogynistic.
You are not less misogynistic by virtue of being a woman. You are not any less capable of perpetrating it.
To believe that being a woman in and of itself makes you less likely to be misogynistic is just essentialism. It implies that other genders are more misogynistic solely only the basis of their gender, rather than being misogynistic based on the choices they actively make.
To not be misogynistic, you must actively choose to fight against it, everyday. You must actively make choices that challenges systemic and social misogyny. You must question your own biases and how they influence your behavior.
You cannot be passively anti-misogyny. Your gender does not give you a free pass.
And importantly, women can absolutely perpetuate misogyny against other women, AND people who are not women. So you must be checking yourself for misogynistic bias in ALL interactions.
*** Before anyone comes at me, YES this applies to men and all genders as well. No, I'm not blaming women for systemic misogyny. I'm simply pointing out that everyone plays a role in it. Women are capable of perpetuating bigotry, especially if there are other intersections at play. Women are not perfect victims, they are human beings who have autonomy, and that autonomy includes the capability to uphold harmful institutions. ***
*** Also yes, experiencing misogyny on a daily basis will cause you to have a different relationship to it. Some folks respond to that by fighting against misogyny, but others respond to that trauma by continuing the cycle of abuse. This is just a fact. ***

I think if we are to do marginalized communities good, it'll help to remember that often, marginalized people who seem to be "forgotten about" in the mind of bigots aren't being treated well by them either - so many marginalized people are forcibly erased and made invisible. That is not a neutral action; it is a form of violence. Not all violence will present itself in the extreme of facing physical violence. The core of any violence against marginalized peoples will often come from a similar level of hatred for them. That's why it's so important to combat all violence, even the forms of violence you don't perceive "as harmful" as other forms.

i do think that that ethel cain post was gross and misogynistic, majorly so. but i also feel like so many transphobic people on here were like itching for an excuse to attack her. and then people are saying she’s “appropriating the female experience” with her music which is like. normal thing to say. it’s wacky some people apparently think that a trans woman from an evangelical christian family with a pastor father in the deep south, who originally came out as gay at literally 12 years old, could never possibly have had any trauma around her body and her sexuality. okay
