i gotta say, 13 hours into omori, i don't get why people call it a horror game

#omori #like there's been occasional creepy scenes but they're usually quite short especially compared to the broader tone of the game #it does have a serious story. about like. trauma and failing friendships? that i'm really intrigued by as it slowly uncovers #like maybe it leans further into horror elements as the game goes on but i gotta say the elements that do exist aren't enough for me #to explicitly call it 'horror' #don't get me wrong i love this game and i love the spooky moments they're really fun! #i just went thru the train ride bit which was pretty fun i liked how the shadow at the end says the name of ur real-world character #even though ur playing as omori in the dream world #also no spoilers but it's unclear to me as of now if omori is just haunted by the memory of his sister's death #or if her spirit is Actually haunting him #also i had flowers and i thought maybe i cld put them on her grave but it didn't give me the option #also i loved the moment where kel talks about hero's depression and the way he himself was overlooked by h #their parents #man. i love all these characters so much #god the scene where aubrey fights you in the church and the whole time all the churchgoers are whispering about how terrible she is #i felt so bad for her man #also her design in the real world is cool as hell #also i actually lost to aubrey during the church scene but i didn't get a game over she just let me be and left #omori spoilers #i know the game is old-ish but my wording may have implied i wasn't going to spoil and i totally did #what i meant was don't tell me abt the future story of the game i'm only on 'three days left'

well, I can't say I expected the new chapter to feature Idia (metaphorically) going to (metaphorical) hell, getting a pep talk from his (metaphorical) Phantom brother which helps him finally move on once and for all from his brother's death, and (metaphorically) overblotting again to fight his way back out of (metaphorical) hell, only to have his darkest fear (non-metaphorically) come true when his mom goes through his computer and finds all his secret files. but I am glad it did!

also this is all a flashback for the purpose of explaining to our group what the heck is going on (whether or not any of it is getting through is another matter)

I wanted to come up w a design and character arc and everything jkvkvk #so I ended up basing her on my personality/looks but taking her into a direction that would fit the game #she's like. me but 'characterized' and a bit exaggerated for the sake of being a character yk #the way she turned out is that she's basically a friendly happy go lucky mage who laughs at her own misery but hides #a deep layer of self loathing underneath all that bc of her curse #having been cursed all her life she believes she's a monster and the sunny personality is a way for her to 'make up for it' #but at the same time she feels like a farse. like she's only luring ppl in to an inevitable demise #and she thinks she's selfish bc despite knowing the danger she poses she still goes out there and puts herself among ppl #bc she craves human connection. even tho she feels guilty for 'indulging' in it #anyway I love the cursed mc concept in this game <3 it's been really interesting to think abt how that would affect someone #also I kept her physical features looking pretty much like mine #bc I wanted to draw myself in a cute way. teehee #but the clothing I was basically thinking like. early game simple clothing that she didn't rlly pick for herself #and maybe later I can have an updated design w something she would actually pick for herself

I can’t stop thinking about how Trapp is playing Hunch.

Like his client asks him to find someone and he does. Job over. But instead of questioning Conrad, or trying to break down the mystery of it all, he’s more concerned with how everyone’s treating him. So, he gets in a fight with the owner of a speakeasy, tries to stop known mobsters, stands up to a literal murderer, all because he sees a kid and knows he can’t possibly deserve the treatment he’s getting. He isn’t getting paid to care about Conrad, or even really Imelda. And yet when they to go to the memory bank, Hunch immediately acts as a distraction, so Imelda can get what they need without anyone else getting hurt. Technically, their business is done, but he still makes himself the target rather than playing the part of the detective he is and potentially putting her in danger.

Curiosity doesn’t need to be kind, but he is. He’s kind because sometimes, being curious about other people, means trusting them before you have the proof that it’s the right choice.
