Yes I pay tumblr 5$ a month even though I could use the site for free and utilize ad block. I'm invested in keeping the tumblr lights on and servers running.

I've been on this site for over 10 years. In that time I've:

Met and rescued my eldest (adopted) child who I rescued from an abusive home and brought to live with me.

Met the (platonic) love of my life. My person. The person I'm planning a future I look forward to with.

Met the solid friend group who act as my support system and whom encouraged me to end a 19 year abusive marriage. My abusive ex is gone. My support system made that possible. They all come from here.

This site has posts that make me laugh.

This site has posts that make me cry.

This site has posts that make made/make me question what I thought i knew about sexuality, gender, racism, what it is to be disabled, and so much more. And no I can't learn everything there is to know about, lets say, racism in this country on tumblr, but this site suggested what books I could start with, and I research from there.

This site is running 2 dozen book clubs.

This site is the home of fandom.

I can currate my dash.

My mom isn't here.

This site may be a hellsite to you, but it's a hellhome to me. So I'm invested in keeping the lights on. I give them 5$ a month. I blaze fun things when my budget allows. I see this as a worthwhile investment in the quality of my life.

I'm not saying you need to give them money. But step off and step back and respect my right to do so. I've been here a long time. I've seen the highs and lows of tumblr. It's about time they let me invest in kibble for the tumbeasts.

Um... I don't... know... actually. The way I found the lovely mutuals I have is sort of a mix of "I've known them since before LiveJournal" like @seananmcguire and "I followed them and interacted with them on the things they posted" like @thebibliosphere and "I don't actually know how they got here, who followed whom first or whatever, but look, they're here!" like @cipheramnesia.

Generally speaking, I don't interact in private with people until we are mutuals and often not even then, but that's me. I just ... talk to people on their public posts, and if people want to talk to me, they will. I kinda view it like interacting on someone's Tumblr posts is running into them in public and chatting, but messaging them is like... calling their house? Or texting their phone directly? So I'm not gonna do that until there's a level of ... repeated public interaction and we've become mutuals by dint of how often we interacted in public?

Got some new followers from the twitter refugees so I will flag this blog sits on a solid basis of lighthearted fandom stuff, but occasionally veers into horror (blood, gore, body horror and violence tagged as best as I can remember) being horny, often times for non human creatures (usually tagged monstersexual), and just plain old personal life TMI talking bout sex, hormones, kink, bodily functions etc (tagged hank talks, though if u want to blacklist my personal tag I'm not sure why you'd follow me?
