Random plant recommendation for vegetable gardens:
Senposai Greens.
These things are a beast. They taste like very mild, slightly tangy cabbage and they cook up super quick. Short stems, big leaves. Also they’ve been really heat tolerant and bug resistant so far: needed a little watering after about 2 weeks of no rain and 90+ degree weather, but the minute it rained and cooled down for a day or two, they were back to thriving.
Final bonus: guaranteed to give your garden that Studio Ghibli Look.

Why are Girondins so annoying?
Lmao, Robespierre, is that you?
Seriously, tho... Not sure why (if?) others find them annoying so I can't comment on that (I have some ideas, but I can't speak for others). Personally, I am not an expert on Girondins so I don't focus on them so much. I don't think they were "the best option" (not with the whole "protect propertyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!1111" shit that they had going on), and I disagree with a lot of stuff, though I do think some of them had some based takes.
But honestly? I am mostly annoyed at today's (mis)understanding of Girondins and flop takes that come with it. They are somehow remembered as these level-headed, "good" revolutionaries who want change but through democratic TM and not violent means... When they are the group who advocated for the fucking war that claimed hundreds of thousands of people (and also messy bitches who attacked their opponents - they were not somehow above that stuff).
Look. I love learning and researching frev. I like it even when the content is difficult or when I disagree with historical people. It's just so interesting to me. But I have a short patience for flop takes about frev that are just factually incorrect but try to sound profound (or, worse, like activism). Bad "feminist" takes are there, but also a lot of bullshit and misinformation about other things. Liking Girondins is often not about Girondins at all - it is about criticizing Montagnards, which is often based on incorrect info (biased Anglo takes, Thermidorian takes, horribly inaccurate online takes, etc.) If one wants to hate frev/Montagnards/Robespierre/whoever, be my guest, but at least be correct about it. Unfortunately, Girondins attract a lot of bad/incorrect takes precisely because of their reputation as "good" revolutionaries, which means people interpret them through today's lens, which in turn makes it very, very annoying to read.

second biggest beef with mass effect lore is how every species only has one religion. like there’s the turian religion and the asari religion and etc etc. i think the only half exception is drell - thane mentions younger gens follow the hanar religion and the old drell religion is being forgotten - but that’s still one per species. i want to read about the asari crusades 😭

A HORRIBLE take i saw was that a therapist refused to work with people diagnosed with NPD because they didn't "work with abusers" and the special twist was supposed to be that they'd make an exception for narcissists who wanted to take accountability and change their ways?? FUCK YOU FUCK YOU AFGJKHG EATS YOUR LICENSE MAIMS YOU

I miss that brief golden era from like 2012 to 2016 when the online witchcraft community was actually good and full of open minded people looking to learn more and share what they know plus maybe the occasional vampire middle schooler instead of the situation now where it's been taken over by capitalist tiktok transphobes who like to come up with ways to shift to hogwarts via their inherent magical vagina powers and then sell coated quartz to cure cancer instead of seeing doctors.
#hal rambles#saying controversial things tonight i guess#btw i have done astral projection and at first when i heard about shifting i was like#'oh basically a different name for the same thing?'#then it turns out these guys are just lucid dreaming and thinking that takes them to an entire other universe#like fine enough i don't want to be mean about someone's beliefs#And then i find out about some of the dramas involved and I'm just like o_O#pls use your critical thinking skills#This is way more important when it comes to stuff like herbology though#because not checking side effects dosage etc can legitimately KILL YOU DEAD#and I've seen. So many incredibly stupid things. only to ask for a source and they send me a link to a tiktok...#This is vagueposting about certain friends#Like tiktok 'witchcraft' is completely counter to all the good I've seen in the community last decade#It's ABOUT thinking critically and learning#It's ABOUT exploring ideas that are not the most popular and not taking mainstream beliefs for absolute granted#And so much more!#Yes it can also be about belief and intuition but you have to use that responsibly#Think about why you are tempted to something#Is it actually from your subconscious or some sort of sign or did something online suggest this to you#And that's not to say all internet knowledge is bad - sometimes people do make original and useful observations on here#or compile existing resources/knowledge#But you've got to THINK about it#Same with stuff in books and from people. I'm not the 'it's published so it's automatically legit' type#Sorry for the rant#I'm up a bit too late and i was thinking about it#Time to go dream about killing someone for the Aesthetic and Drama (my favorite lucid dream series)#(and you see - I'm not going into another universe and murdering people via lucid dreaming about it)

sorry if this is too discourse-adjacent but while i'm really glad that the historical costume space is now considering corset injuries a work safety issue rather than an "actresses whining "for attention" one, we've been way too quick to pat ourselves on the back for it, especially since that's been the popular take for years and an expression of the unexamined undercurrent of nlog-type misogyny we've inherited from older sites like frockflicks, which have shaped our language for better or worse
I think it's...a complicated situation.
(First of all, while I do acknowledge that it has its issues like pretty much everything in the world, I like Frock Flicks. And a lot of the more intense criticism thereof- again, not all the criticism; some is legit! -has smacked of "oh no you're going to hurt the poor big-name professional costume designer and/or actor's Precious Feelings! how can you be so MEAN?!" to me, to be honest. The costumer for L*ttle W*men 2019 will be just fine with her literal Oscar if people say her designs were hot garbage re: accuracy.)
This all started with movies perpetuating the idea of Corsets As Universal Torture Devices, which has the misogynistic undertone of implying that women were stupid or docile enough to just let ourselves be tortured constantly for approx. 500 years. Plus the popular NLOG trope that obviously the heroine didn't wear corsets like those other brainless ninnies around her! And people got frustrated with actresses going to interviews and parroting that mindset with stories of corset hell that did not match their own experiences.
We should not have jumped straight to "you're making this up" as a community, you're absolutely right. It's not a good look, when "they don't know any better because abusive directors tell them Corsets Are Just Like That" should have been an obvious explanation (because it's, you know, probably the truth in most cases).
I'm not quite sure I'd call it NLOG, simply because "I'm not like other girls; I know corsets aren't evil!" isn't really something I've seen trotted out in attempts to gain mainstream social capital over other women- the whole point of NLOG. Mostly because it doesn't gain you any, in 99% of situations. And I don't think the misplaced ire came out of nowhere, or out of a desire to seem superior.
We were frustrated to see something we felt passionately about misrepresented. We lashed out at the wrong people. That doesn't excuse it, and it's good that we're changing our tune now. We should maybe acknowledge that we were off-base, as a community, in our initial reaction to this phenomenon.
That's pretty much the entirety of my (somewhat disjointed) thoughts on the matter.

this week a friend of mine showed me the 10th kingdom & it has some of the worst creative decisions i have ever seen.
atrocious visual effects that just could have been cut entirely (really, you have no idea. without them the series would have been so much better. they have a singing ring but its face is so ugly it's nightmare fuel. it cheerily sings about a more or less unwanted pregnancy at the end). ugly ugly costume design. dumb abusive men, one of them as the romantic lead, who still are more interesting than the heroine herself who has no personality whatsoever. it's a series which relies on the audience's knowledge of the grimm's fairytales yet near the end it wastes precious time retelling snow white in the most bland way possible. it has a version of we will rock you but it's about shearing. also a whiter shade of pale plays in a swamp.
it's trash it's trash it's trash but in the most exciting way possible. it's the reason i ponder the idea of starting to make video essays bc it would absolutely deserve a 2h deep dive.
-10/10, can't recommend. and yet...

stephanie hsu imo absolutely deserved the win over jamie lee curtis BUT to reduce jlc's role in eeaao to just "irs lady" is pretty much a willful misunderstanding of her character's role in the film imo. sure, deirdre starts out as simply the antagonistic irs lady. but over the course of the film her relationship with evelyn across the multiverses serves as a direct reflection of evelyn's growth, and i think it's a beautiful evolution where two opposing forces learn to see each other with kindness and compassion. it shows that the kindness that waymond inspires in evelyn extends beyond just family; at the end of the day deirdre is human too and deserves the same grace and compassion as anybody. she is a necessary and MEANINGFUL character and jlc acted her fucking ass off. and while i and many others clearly preferred stephanie hsu's acting and saw her as the heart and soul of the film, i do think it's blatantly reductive and a little bit obtuse to tear down deirdre's character just because the actress got an award that a different actress arguably deserved more.
i guess this is all to say you can be critical of the academy's decision without being reductive. some of y'all are doing too much and it really makes you look silly

Legitimately crying as Wake Up came on shuffle. Just thinking about character wise, the impact and what it means. But just feeling the things I experienced when I first heard and watched it. Visually it’s so stunning, the dimness and then the sun is in the background it’s just beautiful.
Just the sheer amount of like… impressiveness I felt when first watching it. Because it’s the first time you will hear Madison’s voice and since you heard Now or Never and that was the introduction to how music is used in the show and the talent there is here and Now or Never was really fricken good, I remember being like nervous and anxious for how she would sound. But as soon as she started I was like “…ok she’s good.” but then you realize it’s just the beginning of the song and you’re like “holy shit she’s REALLY good.” And as Wake Up continues and it gets to the build up of where stands up from the piano and there’s the pause in the music as the note is held out it’s just- your breath is taken away.
And then you’re just even more taken aback when you learn that it’s Madison’s first project ever and like how the hell is this her first and that she doesn’t have background in stuff like this it’s just so impressive. And learning that like she’s my age and doing this stuff and sounds like that like I just… it’s unfathomable but she’s doing it and I am watching her do it.
Plus the behind the scenes clip of her singing over the Wake Up track oh my god the power in her voice gets me every time I just-
Madison Reyes power in Wake Up. Spread the word

I'm almost done with ME2. And holy shit this game is legit twice the length of ME1 and my major takeaways are:
Garrus is legitimately the best at being an awkward nerd who is terrible at flirting and I love him for it. Also fuck me the sexy man voice brigade in this series is real. Between Kaidan and Garrus I am enjoying the earsex.
I would die for Kal'Reegar. And I fucking ship the hell out of him and Tali like god damn Fedex. How could anyone prefer the pair the spares Garrus/Tali over this pairing? I mean I thought it was cute when I heard Garrus and Tali could hook-up in ME3 but no. I will die on the hill of Kal/Tali and him lowkey sassing her while sinking a million different intonations into the word ma'am.
Also I'm high-key disappointed in the lack of Kaidan in this game and did not enjoy him being a judgey little shithead on Horizon. Gimme my scarily competent human teddy bear back plz. Yes, I'm aware he was lowkey obnoxious in ME1 and I'm not trying to infantize the man but I don't care.
