A Summer To Remember- Prologue
Summary: Mini Series. Modern AU. You get a summer job working as a resort rep in Magaluf. The resident lifeguard helps make it a summer to remember.
Pairing: Lifeguard! Billy x Fem! Reader
A/N: So, the prologue is just a short explanation of how reader ends up in Magaluf. There’s no Billy in this part, sorry, but he will be in the first proper chapter, I promise! I have decided that I always take my stories too seriously and over-edit, which is why I update SO slowly! So, this one will be an experiment to see if I can just have fun and not stress too much about it being perfect; as a result this has hardly been edited lol, apologies if there’s any mistakes. Updates will hopefully be quicker but chapters will most likely be shorter. I was super excited to start writing this, so here it is! Hope you enjoy! Y/N= Your name and Y/N/N= Your nickname.
SERIES MASTERLIST // MY MASTERLIST
Chapter warnings: swearing, talk of a recently ended relationship, a smidge of angst.
Word count: 3,135

------
Sunlight filters into your bedroom through a gap in the curtains. You glare at the golden rays, thinking about all of the other teens, who are outside enjoying the glorious weather and the freedom of the summer holidays. You roll lazily onto your side in bed and face your alarm clock. It’s already well past midday. You groan, pulling the covers up over your head and will yourself to go back to sleep.
There’s a timid knock on your bedroom door. You reluctantly drag the duvet off your face, frowning in the direction of the sound.
“Y/N, sweetie,” your mum’s voice calls gently through the wood, “Heather’s here to see you.”
You bury your head back under the covers with a groan. As much as you love Heather, you’re still not in the mood to see anyone; much less in the mood to talk about what happened yet.
Your mum opens the door and cautiously sticks her head into the room and you mentally curse yourself for not having relocked it after sneaking out to the bathroom earlier. She sighs when she spots you, curled up in the foetal position under the covers, and steps aside to let Heather in.
“I really think you should talk to her sweetie. It will make you feel better,” she says.
When you don’t respond, she shares a concerned look with Heather, then leaves the two of you, alone.
Heather stands near the door, staring at the lump in the duvet that is you; hot pink sunglasses pushed up into her dark hair.
“You gonna stop hiding and talk to me?” she asks.
“No,” you say childishly, voice muffled by the bed covers.
She huffs loudly and crosses the room.
Wondering what she’s up to, you peer out from your cocoon and watch as she picks her way through the clothes strewn across your bedroom floor. There’s a ‘swoosh’ of material as she draws the curtains back with a flourish and opens the window wide.
You hiss at the sudden invasion of light and duck back under the covers again.
“It smells like something died in here,” Heather says, turning to face you, crossing her arms over her chest. Her foot taps impatiently against the carpet. There’s a beat of silence.
“Come on,” she says suddenly, in a stern voice, “Get up.” She pulls the covers off you, dragging them onto the floor at her feet. You try feebly to hold onto the material, but it slips from your grasp and you can’t find the energy to stop it.
“I leave in a week,” she continues, “and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna let you spend the time we have left together lying in bed sulking! I’m taking you out for some retail therapy.”
You groan.
“Please, Heather, I really don’t feel like it.” You curl up tighter on the bed, hugging your knees to your chest.
“You know what?” she gumbles to herself, moving round to the side of the bed so she’s towering over you. “I’ve been patient enough. It’s been a week!” She says, exasperated.
You say nothing, just offer her a sad little pout, hoping she’ll take pity on you.
“So Nate broke up with you,” she shrugs. You feel a sharp ache in your chest at the mention of his name.
“This is you trying to make me feel better?” you ask, lifting your head off the pillow and narrowing your eyes at her.
“Face it, Y/N,” she says, acting as if she didn’t hear you, and leans back against your chest of drawers, “The guy’s an asshole and you are so much better off without him. Now you need to stop wasting your time pining after him and get on with your life! It’s the summer!” She gestures at the window with one arm.
You follow with your eyes to where she’s pointing, until you’re staring at the sunlight spilling into your bedroom and think again about your fellow ex-classmates, fresh from graduation. You think of Nate, smiling and laughing with his friends and feel defeat tugging at your gut.
When you don’t respond, Heather sighs.
“Ok, tough love’s obviously not working,” she says to herself, pushing away from the dresser, and sits down on the edge of the bed.
“Look,” she says softly, “I know this sucks, trust me, I do. But you can’t stay in here forever.” She reaches over to you and places a hand on your arm, rubbing it gently. “Y/N, please. I need to know that you’re gonna to be ok. I can’t leave you behind in this state.”
She falls silent, looking at the floor.
“I’m fine,” you reply, flatly.
Heather looks at you. Knows you’re lying.
“I could stay here,” she suggests. “I’ll just tell the resort I found another job or something.” That makes you look up at her.
“What? No, you can’t do that,” you say quickly, sitting up. “You’ve been so excited about it, you have to go.”
She smiles gently at you.
“But look at you, Y/N/N, you clearly need me here,” she says softly. Gestures to you and your room.
“Heath, I’ll be fine…” you say hesitantly, glancing down at the state of your floor, “eventually.” She looks at you like she’s not convinced.
“Listen, you’re getting on that plane, even if I have to drag you to the airport myself,” you threaten.
She huffs a laugh at your sudden feistiness.
“At least that would get you out of bed,” she says.
You laugh too. Your throat strains a little in complaint and you realise this is the first time you’ve even so much as cracked a smile in over a week.
A comfortable silence fills the room and you both share a smile.
“Will you please just come out with me?” Heather asks finally. “Even if it’s only for an hour. I think some fresh air will do you good.”
You look at her pretty face as you reluctantly consider her offer. She’s already caught the sun on her forehead; lobster red hairline, clashing with her glasses.
You suppose you could try to hold it together for the next week; to convince her that you’ll be ok whilst she’s gone. You at least owe her that. It’s just typical, that the one summer you don’t have a boyfriend to spend it with, Heather’s got herself a summer job working abroad.
“Ok,” you agree, shuffling towards her on the bed. She pulls you into a hug and you rest your head on her shoulder. “It’s a shame you’re going away for the whole summer,” you say softly.
“I know,” she sighs into your hair. “What are you gonna do whilst I’m gone?”
You lift your head to look at her. There was a bunch of stuff you had planned to do with Nate, which obviously wouldn’t be happening now...
“I dunno,” you sigh. “I could get a summer job, I guess.” You pull away from her.
“You know, I think that’ll be good. Help keep your mind off things,” she says encouragingly. “Hey, you know what?” she asks, slapping your leg gently with her hand, “If you save up enough money, you could come visit me in Magaluf! Spend a long weekend lounging by the pool,” she suggests excitedly.
You smile along, even though you know deep down you only said about getting a summer job to appease Heather.
“Right, come on,” she says, ushering you up off of the mattress. “Go take a shower. You stink.”
---
As reluctant as you were to come out with Heather, you’re really glad she’d convinced you to. You’d felt much more human after your shower, like a little bit of your sadness had been washed away with the dirt. Between that and the beautiful weather, plus some serious retail therapy with your best friend, your mood had been lifted considerably.
You’re sitting outside of the 50’s themed diner, in the food court of the Mall, with Heather; a basket of french fries between you on the table and shopping bags at your feet.
Heather had asked on your behalf about whether there were any jobs available at the diner over the summer, and the woman behind the counter, who was dressed as Marilyn Monroe, had told you to pop back in next week to talk to the owner. You’d just smiled and said thanks, knowing you wouldn’t come back.
Heather animatedly chats away about her new job.
“Well, ‘cos of my experience working at the pool last summer, they want to train me to do lifeguard duties too!” She tells you excitedly. “Apparently there’s already one other rep who does that.” She slurps soda through a straw then plucks up a couple of fries, smearing the ends with ketchup. “And the best part is, if it goes well and I like it, there’s the option for me to go back next year,” she beams at you and pops the fries into her mouth, chewing happily.
“That’s great,” you say, taking a sip of your own soda. It’s nice to see her so excited about it, but you’re still sad that you’ll be alone all summer.
Her phone rings from next to her elbow, on the table. She wipes her hands clean on a napkin and looks at the caller ID.
“Speaking of,” she says, recognising the number. “You alright if I take this?”
“Yeah, of course,” you say, offering her a smile. You look around at the shoppers passing by and help yourself to a couple of fries.
“Hi, Brynn. You alright?” Heather says cheerily.
She listens to the response and her brow furrows slightly.
“Oh no,” she says, concernedly.
You watch her, trying to gauge what’s wrong.
The voice on the other end of the line talks for a bit then Heather’s eyes flick to you. Her face breaks into a grin.
“Actually, yeah, I might know the perfect person,” she says. More murmuring comes from the phone.
“Yeah, I’ll call you back,” Heather replies, “Thanks.”
She hangs up, still smiling.
“Who was that?” you ask her warily.
“That was the Head Rep of the resort I got the job at. Turns out one of the other reps has backed out and they need a replacement. Asked if I had any friends I could recommend...” she lets her sentence trail off meaningfully, practically vibrating with excitement.
“I don’t know, Heather...”
She lets out an exasperated scoff at your obvious reluctance.
“Oh, come on, won’t you at least consider it?” she asks disappointedly. “Listen, you’ll be earning some money, it’s right on the beach and we’ll get to spend the summer together!” she counts off on her fingers.
When she puts it like that, it does sound tempting. But, as much as you’d love to spend the summer with her, you just can’t picture yourself actually going. Magaluf is well-known for its crazy party scene; something you’re not very experienced with. And you know, through Heather, that a big part of the job is accompanying groups of guests on their planned nights out.
“Seriously Heather, me in Magaluf? I’m not much of a party girl, am I?” you ask, raising an eyebrow at her.
“Well, how would you know?” she comes back quickly, “You’ve never been allowed to find out.”
You blink at her in response. That was a dig about Nate. He used to make a fuss if you were invited to parties without him, so you hardly ever went to them. Heather hated that about him. Accused him of not letting you have friends; said he was trying to control you.
“The timing literally couldn’t be any more perfect!” She grabs your arm excitedly and gives it a small shake. “Look, just think about it, please?” she asks with hopeful hazel eyes.
You look away from her.
“Ok. I’ll think about it.”.
Your gaze falls on a young couple, around yours and Heather’s age, walking along together through the food court. The girl is wearing a pretty baby blue dress, which is what drew your eye in the first place. The guy has one arm draped over her shoulders, whispering something into her ear that makes her blush. She giggles, turning to hide her face in his shoulder.
You go to avert your eyes, but then you do a double take, realising who it is and your stomach lurches, threatening to bring up the fries you’d just eaten. It’s as if the rest of the mall has been put on mute, the sounds of the other shoppers drowning out into nothingness, and all you can see is Nate, with his arm around that girl.
You feel like all the air has been punched out of your lungs as you watch them from across the food court.
Heather asks you if you’re ok, but you don’t hear her. She follows your gaze to Nate and her face drops instantly.
“Oh God,” she whispers, mortified.
She hurriedly gathers up your bags and eases you out of your seat by your arm. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”
She guides you past rows of shops to an alcove near some toilets. She eyes you warily, as if she’s expecting you to break into pieces at any moment. A woman with a toddler in her arms casts you a concerned look and Heather smiles quickly at her, she’s ok.
Heather pulls you into the alcove.
“I am so sorry Y/N,” she says, remorse and concern etched on her face. She comes to a stop in front of you and gently places her hands on your upper arms, holding you there.
Your eyes drift to her face, almost dreamily, your expression flat. You feel oddly numb.
“I just wanna go home, ok?”
She doesn’t object.
“Yeah ok,” she says softly.
---
Neither of you says a word on the short walk back to your house.
When you enter through the back door, your mum is sitting at the kitchen table, reading the newspaper. She lowers it to check who’s there then closes it completely when she sees it’s you, Heather trailing cautiously behind.
“How was your little shopping trip?” she asks, beaming at you both.
You walk straight through the kitchen to your bedroom, without saying a word.
Your mum’s smile falters. She looks at Heather for an explanation.
“We saw Nate,” Heather says in a low voice, eyes flicking to the hallway where you’d disappeared, to make sure you can’t hear her. “With another girl.”
Your mum’s brow creases deeply at the news. She gets up and goes over to stand next to Heather, both of them staring down the corridor after you.
“How did she take it?” she asks.
“I don’t really know…” Heather replies, glancing at your mum. “She hasn’t said a word.”
A heavy silence weighs down on them.
“You ok if I go check on her?” Heather asks finally.
Your mum smiles gently at her.
“Of course. Oh, and Heather?” Heather turns back in the doorway to look at her. “Thanks for getting her out,” she says genuinely.
Heather smiles sadly in response. Yeah but look how it turned out, she thinks.
When Heather enters your room a moment later, she finds you sat on your bed, with your back pressed against the headboard and your knees pulled up to your chest. You’re still wearing your sneakers, dirty prints marking the undersheet. Your forehead is resting on your knees, face hidden from view.
Heather places the shopping bags on the floor by the door and comes over to the edge of the bed, hesitating before sitting down.
“Are you ok?” she asks you carefully, reaching out a hand to stroke the back of your head. “No, that’s a stupid question,” she quickly corrects herself, “Of course you’re not ok.”
You make a small squeak, your shoulders quivering just the slightest bit, and Heather suspects you’re crying. She wraps her arms around you as best she can and gives you a big hug.
“I’m so sorry,” she says. Sorry Nate broke your heart, sorry I forced you to go outside when you weren’t ready, sorry he’s a massive asshole… sorry this is happening to you.
“They looked so happy,” you whisper, so quietly that if Heather weren’t hugging you, she wouldn’t have heard it. You give another small tremor.
Heather doesn’t speak, because she knows there’s nothing she can say to you in this moment that will make it hurt any less. Just holds you a little tighter.
“Thanks for being here, Heath,” you say into your knees with a small sniffle.
She strokes your hair lightly in response.
You honestly don’t know how you’re going to survive the summer without her here. The thought of seeing Nate and that girl again seems all the more awful knowing that Heather won’t be around to hold you like this.
You lift your head and Heather pulls back to give you room. You wipe at your tearstained face roughly with your hand, frustrated with yourself for wasting tears on him. Heather rubs your back soothingly with her palm.
You glance around at your room and it’s as if you’re seeing it for the first time; dimly lit and depressing. There’s discarded clothes everywhere, your bed covers still bundled in a sad pile on the floor at the foot of the bed. A couple of photo frames on your dresser, tipped over so that the pictures inside are hidden. You can’t go back to wallowing in here. But you can’t stand the thought of running into them again. Of pretending you’re ok.
And suddenly, braving Magaluf’s nightlife seems like the least of your problems…
“I’ve made up my mind,” you say, your voice surprisingly steady.
Heather looks at you, confused.
“What’s that?”
“I’ve made up my mind,” you repeat. “I’m coming with you.”
“Wait, to Magaluf?” she asks, still unsure what you’re talking about.
You nod.
She beams excitedly for a second then quickly reigns it in.
“Are you sure? Shouldn’t you wait until you’re less upset to make up your mind?”
You turn to face her more head on.
“No, I’m sure about this,” you say resolutely. “I just need to get away from Hawkins for a bit, clear my head.”
She considers you seriously for a moment, her eyes searching your face for any uncertainty.
Seemingly convinced, she lets herself be excited again.
“Oh, this is gonna be so great!” she says, giving you a squeeze.
You laugh at her enthusiasm and you can’t help but feel hopeful that this summer might not suck after all.
When Heather finally lets go of you, you wipe away a few stray tears from your cheeks, vowing to yourself that they will be the last you will ever cry over Nate.

I'm from Spain and to be fair, it just depends on the part of the country were you go. Usually people visiting the North of the country want to discover the gastronomic culture and nature, but the ones going to the Mediterranean coast from Catalunya to Andalucía or the Baleares can be a mess. You go from families wanting to spend time in the sun to groups of friends being drunk three days straight. One of my friends also works in tourism and she always says that in here the Brits are the worst no doubt about it. Since Covid it's go down but before it was really bad you only have to see videos of places like Magaluf.
I see all the images from Greece and Turkey using social media and it makes me quite sad and worried about the populations there so I really can't understand how tourist can be unaffected and acting as if everything is ok. Those are human lives that are going to be changed forever and you can't even show compassion for them.
I really hope the situation is controlled soon. Wishing you and your family safety ❤️
true, for me mykonos is the biggest red flag. i know all these footballers go to ibiza to cheat and get drunk😐 thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. sadly i don't see it ending until the weather cools down a bit.

Ibiza Balearic Island Tourism and Luxurious Holiday Homes and Suits
Tumblr media
Ibiza, Mallorca with its little neighbor island Cabrera, Menorca and Formentera are a part of this Baleares. All of them score with dreamlike shores, turquoise-blue bays, marine and nature reserves and stunning landscapes. Whilst Mallorca and Ibiza have been famous for their lively nightlife, Menorca and Formentera endure for tranquility and family setting. All of them have its charm and also we like to offer you a small summary of Ibiza's lovely sister islands.
The major island of the Balearics is Mallorca. It's chiefly called a popular tourist destination with large scale resorts along the east shore and for its excess party tourism in S'Arenal and Magaluf, where swimming at the sea becomes a little matter and the parties generally finish at a carousal. Notably at the famed beach region of this Ballermann, plenty of visitors celebrate to Bavarian Schlager music. Aside from beaches and tourist bustle, Mallorca provides also rural and quiet oases.
Along the west shore you'll come across a 15 km long mountain range, the"Serra de Tramuntana", and UNESCO World Heritage Site, that brings lots of walkers, walkers and individual travelers. The weather is very pleasant and you're able to escape the intense summer heat on the shores. This component of Mallorca presents excellent views of imposing waterfalls, bizarre canyons and mountain villages that are romantic. Mallorca's highest altitude reaches 1445 m and also a true highlight would be to have a look at the almond blossoms at the start of the year. At many regions of the island you'll come across this pure spectacle revealing a finely scented sea of blossom. Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the Balearics and contains the largest historic city centre of Europe. Located beside the cathedral La Seu is the palace of the King of Spain, which will be a favorite touristic highlight. Among the most breathtaking beaches is most likely the only one of Es Trenc and in the interface of Portals Nous you can observe the innumerable yards coming from or leaving for another experience.
Alongside Mallorca is that the relatively unknown little island Cabrera, that's a protected national park using natural wealth of seabirds and fishes but also its remarkable flora and fauna. Cabrera is the biggest island of this little archipelago which includes (from south to north) the islands of Estells de Fora, L'Imperial, Illa de ses Bledes, Na Redona, Conillera, L'Esponja, Na Plana, Illot Pla, Na Pobra, along with Na Foradada.
Menorca is your gorgeous unknown of the Balearics, versatile and full of stone. Past the mass tourism Menorca has several interesting contrasts to provide, such as the 2nd biggest natural harbor worldwide, following Sydney-Australia, with 6 kilometers length and in certain areas 1 km broad. You'll come across a lot of beaches that are virtually untouched, lush green meadows from the hinterland in which frisian cows graze and more than 10,000 kilometers of stacked stone walls. Each Menorca is protected by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve.
View Luxurious CW Villas Ibiza
The fund Mahon is famous for the same called Mahon cheese. It's a town that exudes Spanish calmness surrounded by British charm due to the many colonial buildings. While drifting through town, the eventful job history could be observed nearly anywhere. Even though the nightlife in Menorca is considerably more silent than in Ibiza and Mallorca, it's its own highlight in regards to celebration. The Cova d'en Xoroi is an occasional location 30m over the sea. At a labyrinth of corridors, caves and terraces you may celebrate nearly all over the clock and revel in the standard Island Gin that was produced in line with the British version on the island for more than 300 decades.
Formentera is the smallest of the populated Balearic Islands and only reachable by sea. It's a complete paradise with crystal clear waters and white sandy shores that communicates Caribbean feelings. Meadows of those so-called'Neptun sea-grass' filters the water and gives its transparency. Much like Ibiza, Formentera was a favorite haunt for hippies from the'60s and'70s, there continue to be memorabilia found of the age. Among the most crucial agricultural branches of this island would be viticulture. The top wines will be announced in the village festivals of Sant Francesc and Sant Ferran annually. Aside from the viticulture, salt manufacturing can also be important. The salt of Formentera is very low in sodium and quite healthy which is because of this'Neptun sea-grass'. Formentera is a refuge in a gorgeous landscape with a relaxed setting.
Ibiza can also be known as white island also is well known for its hippie vibes and religious areas, bohemian fashions, endurance and free spirits, high quality service and royal clubs. It's a scenic island with a rocky coastline, hidden bays and azure-blue water. You will find tranquil villages and hippie markets, many different hiking and biking routes and magnificent sunsets. And we don't have to talk about the celebration scene!! Everyone else in the Baleares could be celebrated like this on the world's greatest DJs of digital music such as techno, house and Edm. You may read more about Ibiza within our additional blog posts, where we've outlined its very best places for you to test out!
Overall all of the archipelago of this Balearics supplies fascinating surroundings, in which you'll discover perfect conditions for relaxing beach vacations, sightseeing excursions and a great deal of experiences. Each island has its own highlights, at Menorca you are going to discover the greatest ancient monument density, Formentera scores with kilometer long shores, Mallorca provides mountain ranges and Ibiza the very religious place with the most mad parties. By reserving your dream villa with us on Ibiza you'll find the ideal starting point for the Balearic round trip, as most of them are worth it to be researched.

Two thirds of hotel bookings in Spain have been CANCELLED
Worried tourists have cancelled two thirds of their hotel bookings in Spain as the country battles a new wave of coronavirus cases.
Cancellation rates are as high as 77 per cent among families and 70 per cent in the Balearic Islands which include Mallorca, in a fresh blow to Spain’s vital tourism industry which accounts for 12 per cent of economic output.
At some hotels, the number of tourists cancelling holidays that they booked several weeks or months ago is higher than the number of new bookings.
Spain has recorded more than 9,000 new cases in the last seven days after seeing only 5,000 in the previous week, prompting fears of fresh border closures.
One town in Murcia has today re-imposed tough restrictions including a ban on entering or leaving the area after a spike in cases linked to a nightlife venue.
People wearing face masks walk along La Misericordia Beach in Malaga yesterday as Spain faces a fresh blow to its tourism industry because of coronavirus
Two people sit at an outdoor bar as they enjoy the sunny weather at Barceloneta beach in Catalonia over the weekend
Spain has recorded more than 9,000 new cases in the last seven days after seeing only 5,000 in the previous week, prompting fears of fresh border closures
The government of the Balearic Islands insists that the archipelago is ‘safe for residents and visitors’, but some tourists have become alarmed by the growth in cases.
A spokesman for the Association of Hotel Chains on the islands told Ultima Hora that ‘the situation has turned around in the last week’.
‘It has gone from having more reservations than cancellations to the opposite side,’ they said.
‘German, Austrian and Swiss tourism, as well as French and Italian, are the most affected by this uncertainty.’
According to research by tourism group Dingus, visitors who booked their trips between two and four months ago have cancelled more than 80 per cent of their holidays.
Cancellation rates overall are as high as 70 per cent in the Balearic Islands and 64 per cent in Spain as a whole.
While tourists travelling alone have cancelled 54 per cent of their reservations, families have scrapped as many as 77 per cent of their trips, the data shows.
The UK government has not made any changes in its rules regarding Spain, after scrapping the 14-day quarantine rule for people returning from Spain to England after July 10.
Scotland also exempted Spain from its own 14-day rules this week after initially keeping it on the quarantine list.
Spain is also one of the countries exempt from the Foreign Office’s general warning against non-essential travel.
People sit on beach towels on Cala de Alfacar beach on the island of Menorca yesterday amid fears of a second wave of coronavirus cases in Spain
People lie on the beach and paddle in the seat at Cala de Alfacar beach on Wednesday, with cases rising since the state of emergency was lifted in Spain
In Magaluf, Wigan holidaymaker Charmaine Bell, 37, told The Mirror: ‘I’m not too worried really, because we work in ASDA we are used to Covid and it really doesn’t scare us anymore, we know how to deal with it and be sensible.’
Sunseeker Mark Nolan, 36, added: ‘It is a little worrying they could be put on the unsafe list because that was one of the things that put us off coming but to be honest my advice to people at the moment would be to just come.
‘It really hasn’t been that bad to deal with and we are having great fun, if they did bring in quarantine there is very little we can do about it is there?’
Spanish tourism minister Reyes Maroto said yesterday that she hoped there would be no need for France to close the border after a spike in cases in Catalonia.
Madrid has voiced concern after French Prime Minister Jean Castex on Sunday did not rule out closing the border.
But Maroto told an event organised by Europa Press that she was optimistic after data showed infections in Catalonia had fallen over the past three days.
‘Let’s hope that with this better data we don’t have to close a border that for us is very important for mobility with our European partners.’
Catalonia, which borders France, has been at the heart of a rebound in coronavirus cases since Spain lifted a nationwide lockdown one month ago
Nearly 7,000 cases have been logged there in the past 14 days, nearly half the nationwide total, though the rate has dropped sharply in the past days.
Catalonia registered 63 new cases on Tuesday, 70 on Monday and 994 on Sunday, down from a peak of 1,226 on Saturday.
People lie on the beach at Barceloneta beach in Catalonia, where a recent outbreak has prompted fears of France closing its border
A woman wearing a mask lays down a beach towel upon arrival at La Misericordia Beach in Malaga on Wednesday
Barcelona cut the number of people allowed onto the city’s beaches after crowds formed over the weekend despite advice to stay home.
However, Catalan leader Quim Torra ruled out returning to a strict lockdown, telling the regional parliament: ‘Catalonia can’t be closed.’
Elsewhere, Madrid’s regional government said it could make face masks compulsory in all situations, unless the central government imposed stricter controls on arrivals at the capital’s Barajas airport.
‘If the health ministry assumes its responsibilities…we can continue with the measures taken until now,’ deputy regional leader Ignacio Aguado said.
Madrid and the Canary Islands are the only Spanish regions that do not already have such a rule.
Health Minister Salvador Illa told parliament there were 224 active coronavirus clusters in Spain, mostly linked to parties, family events and fruit harvesting.
Meanwhile the town of Totana in Murcia has re-imposed tough restrictions including an entry and exit ban and restrictions on movement.
Bars and restaurants will have to close their indoor seating areas after 55 cases linked to a nightlife venue, according to ABC.
Spain has confirmed 28,426 deaths from the pandemic after recording a total of 267,551 positive test results.
Official figures show 9,011 new cases of Covid-19 being diagnosed in the last seven days, up from 5,128 a week ago.
The number had been only 2,491 a fortnight ago on July 9 and 2,016 a week before that as Spain initially appeared to have the outbreak under control.

Festival Les Deferlantes, Perpingnan FESTIVAL LES DÉFERLA
Sorry about the lack of photos, but my phone ran out of memory;( However, here’s two beauties…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lovely drive though France to this gig. The traffic is horrendous on the last leg and even though the sat-nav says 3.5 hours ….. it actually takes 8, with us driving all over the place when we get there…bloody sat-navs!
This would be a beautiful spot, for any festival. High on a hill set in an old medieval castle. Their set up and organisation, food etc., is fantastic with Chemical Brothers headlining. We play really well and are received very well too, a lovely day out. Nice to see the Chemicals crew members and their Agent Alex Nightingale on the trip. Nice drive home with gorgeous weather.
  The Foundry, Sheffield Students Union.
After two weeks off I am very nervous. It seems like such a long time! We practice very well, and even though as soon as we start practicing, we wonder why we are? Because we know the songs so well;)
Using a new boy today, Rob on monitors. Rob is the bass player from The Cadavers, Part Time Band contestants, and it’s nice to have someone you know doing the fold-back. It makes life a lot easier.;)
Geek Alert: Foldback System – when you see a band perform live, the black speaker boxes facing the musicians at the front of the stage, are called ‘fold back’. Folding the music back to the performers, so each musician can hear what they and the other group members are playing on stage.
(Pottsy actually mis-heard this years ago and thought, until last week???… it was called ‘fallback’…how weird is that!)
We are out of term time so no students, and I wonder what will happen?
I needn’t have worried. It is HOT!  And packed with a very boisterous audience greeting us very, very warmly. The boys play fantastically, it is insanely sweaty and I am delighted to see Queen Vivien of Bedford Boys Club 1981 fame backstage with her beautiful grown up daughter, which makes me feel very old… God doesn’t time fly?;)
Y not Festival, Matlock, Derbyshire
Nice drive to picturesque Matlock, in Derbyshire. It is strange rounding a bend and seeing this huge festival site stretching out before you, in the middle of absolutely bloody nowhere. I go out in the tent to watch the band before us play, PRETTY VICIOUS, and very young and energetic they were too, with a great drummer.
As I’m watching there is one surreal moment when someone reaches over my shoulder and points to the back of the guy in front of me, who is wearing a Festival T-shirt, and points to Peter Hook and The Light on it. I think is he taking the piss? I look round and the guy who’s pointing screams, ‘Fucking Hell!’ he shouts, ‘Peter Fucking Hook!’ I beat a hasty retreat.
The tent is packed, bursting at the seams, and apart from this huge stanchion in the middle of the stage, everything is great. It’s a mixed audience but most are very young.
The gig goes GREAT! Starting with Joy Division, then moving on to New Order. The crowd and mosh-pit getting wilder and wilder. With crowd backing vocals for ALL of the songs. Then about halfway through the set a young lady at the front pulls her top up showing off her lady parts and Jack drops the most monumental bum note I have ever heard…God bless him! We finish with LWTUA and the audience are still singing it 10 minutes after we have finished!!!
A lovely drive home as the sun sets and I feel very happy, tired but happy.
Thank you to all at Y not! Thank you very much;)
Hacienda Classical, Rainbow arena, Birmingham.
A quick trip down to Brum, turns into anything but quick when the motorway turn off is shut on both sides of the M6??? Who’s crazy idea is that???
Make it just in time as today has a 9p.m. curfew. We are playing an Electronic New Order set today all mixed together, just like the Classical in fact. We play well and for a support act are very well received. As we limber up for the main event the Arena fills up nicely. Then were on. The sound at the start is a bit ropey but soon comes together and after about 4 songs is rocking. Everyone plays great and nice to have Daz out of 808 State toasting tonight, as MC Tunes is busy. After we finish we drive to a hotel Gatwick ready for our early flight to Croatia. I have never been and am very excited.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Splitzka Festival, Primosten, Croatia.
Nice flight, thank the lord, and before we know it we are in Croatia. Which on first glance looks a lot like an unspoilt Greece. We have a short drive and unbelievably it is pissing down. The driver says they have had no rain for over 68 days, but we are Mancs…it follows us wherever we go! There is at least two foot of water on the roads now and we are very worried about the Festival. The driver laughs it off and sure enough within two hours everywhere is dry as a bone.
This is a lovely place and we get picked up for dinner later and driven into the hills to a beautiful rustic restaurant on top of a hill overlooking the ocean complete with a beautiful sunset…told you!
Tumblr media
As we feast on home made bread, oil and olives, with a 8 hour baked lamb dish that is simply sensational, we are all sat they feeling really fat and realising we do not have long until we play….Oooops! There is nothing worse than playing on an overly full stomach…God we are getting old.  Then back to the Fessie which is gorgeous and before we know it we are off. Great gig and a great crowd, loads of Bootleg Croation Joy Division T-shirts greet me.
A wonderful time, is had by all!
Tumblr media
A lovely warm night makes for a lovely warm singer and I am wet through. Then a young lady approaches me asking for a hug,
I say, ‘I’m wet with sweat?’
‘It’s fine.’ She says.
Then as she hugs me she whispers in my ear,
‘I miss him.’
‘I miss him too.’ say I.
And off she waltzes. Great night. One odd sight backstage is this one bloke just sat on his own in a corner, sniffing away. When I ask who he is, it seems he is the festival drug dealer, offering all the normal stuff and the lads say he has done absolutely no business all day and now all night? That is brilliant. The old me would’ve adopted him but now I am delighted that the old drug thing now seems totally out of fashion. Last week in Magaluf on the strip, I was watching this guy approaching all the kids passing by, me thinking he was promoting a bar or something, and the kids were nice to him with quite a lot of backslapping but none stopped. Then he sauntered over to me, ‘Hey signor…you want cocaine?’ I smiled, if only he knew. You’ve not got enough in that rucksack for me dickhead. Ha Ha! I decline obviously, but am very heartened by all these kid’s reactions. He must have approached about 80 and every single one said no. I am delighted.
JUST KEEP SAYING NO KIDS!
Tumblr media
Nice late start makes for a lovely easy morning and is only ruined by my usual legal work that has occupied my life for too long now. In the words of Ian Curtis….’Where will it end?’ Nice trip home surrounded by kids on the plane, which was different. A cool, damp Manchester welcomes us with open arms. And….no queue at Passport Control? Which makes a lovely change;)
Rebellion Festival 40 years of Punk, Blackpool.
Lovely to be asked back and to be celebrating 40 years of punk.
I cannot believe it is 40 years ago I started!!! The crowd here are so nice and friendly it is an absolute pleasure to play. I do a Q and A with John Robb and get to meet Brix Smith after too many years. I love Brix, a great woman and let’s face it we all make mistakes don’t we? Eh Mark;)
Tumblr media
The old theatres in here are fantastic, with many old features still in place, including me, Hee Hee. I watch the Anti Nowhere League who are as mad as ever and then get told they are Nazi’s…eh? They are just like us…fat, old blokes singing bollocks. How could anyone take any of us seriously, anyway…back to the gig! We are playing in a 2000 seater and I am delighted to be told later that it was one in one out. We are the first band to fill out a venue in the festival. I don’t feel great tonight but have to admit it goes very well and we take roof off. As I drive home later past many of the places where I used to play as a boy, I sigh. I love Blackpool.
Rewind Festival, Cheshire.
Nice jaunt back to Cheshire with The B.E.F.
Tumblr media
This is a great Festival, loads of fancy dress and a real party atmosphere. Older crowd, but I fit in perfectly. Nice to be asked back by Martin and lovely to meet the other featured artists. Mari Wilson (who I had a mad crush on when I was a kid, saw her play loads of times in Manc, loved the beehive!). A lovely relaxed day ensues and some wild people about, Jason Donovan, Rick Astley. I feel quite grungy in comparison. B.E.F are a great group and have another great line up, as we practice backstage in the true punk tradition everything is so relaxed it’s fantastic. Then we are on….Everything goes great and I even spot Sally, my trainer in the crowd at the front, a lovely surprise.
Nice to be home.
Just to finish off a lovely picture of me from 1981.
Tumblr media
Thank you everybody, you’ve made an old man very happy.

Hot Tips to Getting Married in Spain
 Destination Spain!
Looking for a destination wedding location? Look no further than Spain, the largely undiscovered newest trend for sunshine elopements, vow renewals and wedding ceremonies.
Where else can you find palm tree lined beaches, romantic Moorish castles, olive groves stretching beyond the horizon, world class nightlife and free tapas all in one country?! Read my hot tips for getting married in Spain.
Tumblr media

Dig out your documents
The truth is that even if you have Spanish residency, it is very difficult to get married in Spain. Whether you contract a Civil Marriage or a Religious Marriage, the necessary documents are similar, all must be originals and all must be officially translated into Spanish.
So either, you can start digging out your birth certificate, passport, residency papers, registration with the town hall, certificate of marital status, certificate of no impediment a healthy dose of patience and a DNA sample (just kidding about the sample)….. or you can do things the easy way!
Take out a contract!
Let’s be clear on the difference between a marriage and a wedding. A marriage is the actual legal CONTRACT. A wedding is the celebration or CEREMONY where the memories are made.
By far and away the easiest option is to contract your marriage in the country that you live in, then come on over to Spain for your symbolic wedding ceremony on the beach, in the olive groves, a Moorish castle or other dream location.  For example, if you are a British citizen, pop off to your local register office and for about forty pounds GBP you can be legally married then hop on a plane to your ceremony in the sunshine and let the celebrations commence!
 Consider Gibraltar
British citizens can also contract their marriage at the register office in Gibraltar. A peninsular just off the Spanish mainland, Gibraltar remains under British law, so the bonus is that you can walk across the border from Spain and it is all in English. Contact the Civil Status and Registration Office for full information.

Choose your region
Spain is a very big country with 17 regions, all of which have different personalities according to their historical customs and the climate.
Without giving you a geography lesson, just know that the North of Spain can be cold and wet. The Basque Country is fiercely proud of its cultural difference in that it was never ruled by the Romans or the Moors. To be more certain of the weather, choose a wedding date in September or October.
Likewise, Catalonia in the North East of Spain holds onto its own language. For fairytale weddings in Gaudi inspired castles, head to the capital Barcelona.
In Central Spain you will find the contrast of the windmills and wide open plains as described in Don Quixote with the international urban opulence of Madrid’s palaces and five star hotels.
The West of Spain borders Portugal. The pilgrim’s route of Santiago de Compostella has given rise to many paradors – mostly historic buildings that are now beautiful, state-run luxury hotels, perfect for a wedding in a dramatic location.
The East of Spain contrasts the wild coast (Costa Brava) down to the white coast (Costa Blanca) with the high rise skyline of Benidorm somewhere in between. Win! Win! Bring your hens and stags to celebrate your last few nights of singledom then head off to a rustic Spanish farmhouse or “finca” wedding.
Andalusia in the South of Spain, is heavily influenced by its Moorish heritage. Even the name is Arabic, Al-Andalus. This a region of olive trees (one hundred million, but who’s counting?) and a plethora of world-heritage palaces. But it is the average of 320 days of sunshine a year and the beautiful coastline that draws many couples to celebrate their wedding along the palm tree fringed beaches of the Costa del Sol and the lesser known Costa Tropical.
Island Wedding
Each of the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands is different. Tenerife has volcanic black sand beaches whereas Ibiza is known as the white island and Mallorcan mountains contrast with the island’s clubbing hotspot in Magaluf. Basically, the Spanish islands have something for everybody.

Spanish Wedding Traditions
So, you’ve contracted your marriage, you’ve chosen your Spanish Wedding Ceremony location, now all that remains is to select your celebrant (officiant) to officiate your ceremony and make your vision of your perfect wedding in Spain a reality. You might like to include some of the local Spanish Wedding traditions such as the Arras coin ritual. It is said that the 13 coins represent a commitment to financially provide and a responding promise to manage the housekeeping. In this day and age however, a Spanish couple often exchange one coin at a time, with a word of personal commitment pledging patience, honesty, support and so on. The thirteenth coin is jointly pledged to their love.
Celebrating Ritual Differences
To symbolise family unity, one half of a Spanish bridal couple usually enters the ceremony with their mother, whilst their partner-to-be is escorted by their father. The parents stand by their son or daughter until the ceremony is complete and the families bonded by love.
In case you were wondering, Spanish wear their wedding ring on the third finger of their right hand.
And note that if a guest is single they wear their corsage upside down at a Spanish wedding… useful info for other singletons!
And finally, most guests to a Spanish wedding give the couple a gift of cash instead of a wrapped present. If you want to follow this tradition it will save you having to pay for extra suitcases to carry all your presents home, but on the other hand you may have to explain to the customs official why your bags are stuffed with used euro notes!

The Guide for the Best Stag Do in Spain has been published at http://www.theleader.info/2019/03/18/the-guide-for-the-best-stag-do-in-spain/
New Post has been published on http://www.theleader.info/2019/03/18/the-guide-for-the-best-stag-do-in-spain/
The Guide for the Best Stag Do in Spain
Spain is an incredibly popular place for stag dos, with its low-cost airfare, brilliant weather and fantastic nightlife. From Barcelona to Madrid, there are countless destinations to choose from for your pre-wedding celebrations and a huge list of potential activities to fill your time with. Spain enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year and has the most Blue Flag beaches of any country in the world, so where better to enjoy a lads weekend? This is a guide for an unforgettable stag do in Spain that you and your best mates are guaranteed to enjoy. Choose the ideal location  Spain is packed with brilliant locations that would make for a great stag do, so think about the types of activities you want to get involved with and choose your location wisely. One of the most popular cities for a stag weekend is Madrid as it has a classically cool vibe and unbelievable nightlife, so if you want to go clubbing or dabble in a spot of betting at a casino, Madrid is an ideal location. For history and culture, Valencia is a sophisticated choice that is packed with history and hiking trails for those who want a more refined weekend, while Barcelona has the perfect balance of the two. If you want a beach holiday, why not look to locations like Benidorm, Magaluf or Mallorca? Luckily, wherever you choose to go, you’ll enjoy world-class food, architecture and plenty of culture to soak up during your visit. Pick the best time to go As they say, timing is everything and while Spain is gorgeous year-round, there are some months that are better suited to a stag do – particularly if you want a beach getaway. Places like Magaluf and Ibiza tend to close up over the winter months and don’t really get lively again until around Easter, so if you’re planning your stag do during this part of the year then bear this in mind as you won’t have as much choice in terms of activities. Between April and October is the best time to visit if you want that scorching heat that Spain is known for and plenty of activity options. Plan out your itinerary When you’re planning a stag do, think about the style of weekend the groom will most enjoy and tailor the activities around that. Spain has something for everyone, from watersports, scuba diving and plenty of beach time, to clubbing, football stadium tours, newly launched casinos, theme parks and even beer bikes. Why not plan an escape room tour or go clay shooting for activities to do during the day before heading out to enjoy the nightlife, clubs and bars? Spain offers up the ultimate bar crawl experience, wherever you decide to go, with countless bars and clubs in all of its main cities. Depending on when you go, Spain is also packed with festivals during the summer which are sure to make for a memorable stag weekend if you and the group are music fans.
