Yachting Ventures Announces Dates for Next Cohort
As we enter the post-pandemic world, the global yacht market has thrived and is the strongest it’s been in four years. According to an April 2021 report, the global yacht market—valued at $8.15 billion in 2020—is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 5.2% from 2021 to 2028.
The island of Mallorca and the Balearics are strategically located to benefit tremendously from this continued growth. The islands are a key yachting hub, currently hosting more than 700 nautical companies that employ over 4,000 people and generate more than 420 million euros.
With the infrastructure and support already in place, Mallorca is a fantastic and strategic place to launch a startup in the leisure maine, yachting and superyachting industries. Yachting Ventures is here to help you do just that. The accelerator has now worked with over 50 startups over two cohorts and has experienced nothing but success.

Yachting Ventures: the startup accelerator for the yachting industry
Tumblr media
With the yachting industry set to be worth $100 billion by 2025, the island of Mallorca is strategically located to benefit tremendously from the continued growth in demand for services and support. The Balearic region is a key yachting hub, currently hosting more than 500 nautical companies that directly employ almost 3,000 people and generate a turnover of 561 million euros.
Launched in June 2020, Yachting Ventures is the world’s first 10 week accelerator for entrepreneurs looking to launch innovative products and services in the yachting space. The aim is to build a network of startup support and accelerate what has traditionally been an industry slow to adapt to change.
28 founders took part in the first virtual cohort back in September 2020, with Balearic-based startups including Workrest.io, She of the Sea, BOATIQUE and yachting and co.
“Joining the YV cohort was a highlight of 2020! Everything was excellently executed and professional throughout to the highest degree. The quantity and highest quality of mentors that presented and were available for conversations and questions was simply fantastic. Also - to have been introduced to like minded entrepreneurs and to now have them in my personal network will reap great benefits over the years to come.” - Tim Fletcher, Founder @ Workrest
The Yachting Ventures Team
Yachting Ventures has brought together key industry experts and experienced entrepreneurs who have launched, scaled and sold their own businesses in the yachting space. The YV Mentor team has been carefully selected to provide the best possible support in a business capacity, whilst also giving founders the opportunity to network with some of the leading players in the industry.

Coara - Let’s build the next generation of digital products
Tumblr media
In-house corporate innovation projects often reach their limit when it comes to building and testing new experimental value propositions. Corporate process, IT departments and brand values do not allow to rapidly build and validate new (potentially cannibalising or disrupting) products with real customers. Setting up a new company for each idea or trial is also not an option. This is why the field of revolutionary products is very often left for startups.
Lean startups as opposed to corporates create MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) to test their assumptions and to get real customer feedback and revenue at a very early stage in a new project.
Tumblr media
The process of creating a new product starts with an exploration or ideation phase, in which assumptions are enriched with research, and hypothesis are directly tested with real users. This leads to the product building phase in which an MVP is created and ideally revenue is generated with this very early product, just to prove that somebody out there is really willing to pay for this. The building phase then seamlessly becomes the third phase of generating traction, where the path to growth is explored. Often the product has to be adapted and refined and sometimes the whole value proposition goes through the process of a pivot to reach the ultimate goal of a product that can disrupt the market.
Tumblr media
Coara helps corporats to act like a lean startup. The company complements in-house innovation teams, with the advantage, that it doesn't have to follow corporate processes, IT departments and brand. It can act like a separate project company without the extra effort of creating one.
For a corporate this has many advantages. Coara brings in external perspective and experience and a very short time to market through a highly specialised development team and automated development steps.
The coara core team combines knowledge generated in corporate projects (TUI, Coca Cola, Thomas Cook / Condor, Telefonica O2, Orange France Telecom, Melià Hotel Group, ONO Vodafone, Mobiliar Insurance, Volkswagen and many more) with startup knowledge and an excellent workforce of software developers and marketing experts.
Even though coara operates and has it’s customers in Germany and Switzerland, it has it’s roots and part of the development force in Mallorca and the former startup jobMapp.

Startup: Happyforce: employee feedback is a key part of any company’s business
Tumblr media
Most certainly, all employees in an organization have opinions, suggestions for improvements and also things to be thankful for and appreciate about their work. However, it is also no secret that most of that feedback is lost or simply unlistened to, as management teams are aware that people have valuable input to share, but they don’t seem to find an effective or easy way to gather it. People, in general, need a certain amount of comfort and trust to open up, and if this must happen in their workplace it also requires the right amount of anonymity, transparency and the feeling that their words are going somewhere. Which is exactly what Happyforce offers.
In the words of Daniel Castro (CTO & Co-founder) Happyforce is an app-based platform that gathers feedback and measures people’s mood in the organizations, enabling them to build better workplaces thanks to an effective two-way communication between employees and management.
The platform, 100% developed in Spain (they have part of the team established in Palma, following their ‘work from where you feel most comfortable’ policy) is distributed to companies around the world in five different languages. It basically combines a smartphone app where employees participate every day with a control panel for managers, where they can follow up and analyse all the feedback and choose from a variety of features to communicate back.
Tumblr media
Part of Happyforce’s mission is to promote a different way to manage companies, with a real focus on people and using technology as an ally, not an intruder. Improving the workplace environment, increasing productivity, building a stronger culture or creating a solid employer brand are more than ‘buzzwords’ for Alex Ríos, the startup’s co-founder. In his opinion change is perfectly possible, visible and measurable, and there is a tremendous potential in HR and Internal Communication departments as enablers of this evolution in the organizations.
Beyond the usual small talk that surrounds difficult to define terms like ‘happiness in the workplace’, these entrepreneurs developed a product that makes action possible. “You just need to start the conversation with people, let them know you care about what they’d like to say, and then...pay attention to them. People will tell you things that could really surprise you in a very positive way” says Ríos.
Tumblr media
A wide variety of companies (retail, industry, pharmacy, hotels…) are currently using Happyforce, and not just as an HR or communication tool, but also as an interesting source of info for business strategy. “We know some of our clients of the retail area turn to their employees when they want to find out more about a product not selling well, for example. Who else could know better than your own people, who are constantly in touch with clients? These organizations trust their employees, and people respond very well to that approach. Everyone likes to feel valued’
Happyforce runs on a very easy system based on a question asking people how they feel at the end of their workday, and offering them the choice of sharing a comment and agree or disagree with feedback shared by their peers. This creates a moving, accurate picture of what’s happening in the company and increases not just management’s visibility but also the number of opportunities they have to take action and improve.
If you’d like to know more about the Happyforce platform, check out their website or their (camera shy…) CEO’s pitch.
