Hortensia from Engage ? :D

Answering these later than I wanted, but it's been a crazy week so

First impression: Oh, definitely not good. I was pretty skeptical of Engage when it was first announced (and you can still see my old posts about it), and not only her designed looked more like an idol than an FE character and had a really squeaky voice, what little we knew about her kinda made her look like a Heroes-tier villain. Yes, I know how hard of an accusation that is.

Impression now: Like most things about Engage for me, they did a 180! Hortensia's great :D

Her design and voice eventually grew on me (esp because her VA, the same of Faye btw so :D, absolutely killed it), she has a lot of great moments both in and out of the story and she's a lot more interesting than you'd give her credit at first glance, between her neverending tragedy called her life, her hidden smarts and being both in the position of an atoner like several other Engage characters, but also one who struggles to forgive and forget Veyle who was in a very similar situation to hers (but I am absolutely not faulting her for that let's be clear).

I really like in general how all of the atoner characters in Engage have at least one support partner who will give them a bit of trouble before accepting them because, well.. redemption does not come easy, and not everyone will forgive and accept them right away.

Also, Fell Xenologue Hortensia. My heart.

Idea for a story: Either her time at the Elusian Academy or Fell Xenologue Hortensia being brought to the main Elyos because SHE DESERVES TO BE HAPPY

Unpopular opinion: Her voice is more than fine (although definitely an acquired taste) and she's more than the annoying cute little sister. Nuff said.

Favorite relationship: Platonically with Veyle because of their slow burn, with Hortensia struggling to separate her two personalities and especially to forgive her for... a lot but especially getting her father vored by Sombron only to corrupt him and have him fight her and Ivy, and by the end of their A support she still can't bring herself to forgive her... but at least wants to give her the chance to start anew. Both of them are in a really rough position with each other, but they're taking the steps to build bridges and I think that's lovely. How Hortensia can't bring herself to forgive Veyle straight away but still wants to give her the chance.

Romantically with... Céline, I guess?

Favorite headcanon: Oh, hmm. Don't really have one, but I just imagined her doing Alear's makeup so let's go with that, it's cute

Rhea bleeds green as a dragon being green means an allied unit and going against her means going against the people you are supposed to ally to in FE3H

That's the best answer I read in 4 years lol

Rhea even charges against impossible odds, like the green Ostia knights you have to protect in FE7, the Rausten Knights in FE8, etc etc !

Writers Truth & Dare ask game

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

I've been writing (or at least imagining/daydreaming fanfiction) for a long time. I wanted to immerse myself in the universes I loved, explore new aspects and add new characters. I remember that FE Radiant Dawn, Genealogy of the Holy War and Shadow Dragon were huge catalysts for me. I was still writing in my notebook at that time haha.

I also wanted to fix things I didn't like in canon (one of my first long fics was launched by a desire to save a character from death).

And recently, fanfic has been a good way to start writing again after a period of where I struggled. I discovered FE3H and well...here I am.

After 2 years (damn, already!) of only writing fanfiction, I've had a new novel idea and I'm really excited about it. It's a fantasy novel inspired by the Byzantine Empire and I already have the characters and the basis of the plot. I'm doing some research because I want it to be as immersive as possible and I'm learning many new things this way!

Between Crimson Flower and Azure Gleam, I feel like there are reasons why someone would think Rhea fits well with the Lions... and I agree. I like the Deer too but there's just *something* compelling to me about the Lions and Rhea

To me it's kind of like... the Lions have always felt the most like a big family? And Rhea (and Seteth, and Flayn) kind of lack that, so to have them share the family vibes of the Lions makes me very soft...

The Deer would welcome her too, I'm sure, but they always gave me "friend group" vibes more than "family" vibes? Add onto that the fact that at the Academy and in Hopes, Claude is extremely suspicious of Rhea + wants her gone, it's harder to appreciate whatever nice time she might spend with them adfgbd

I just think the Nabateans would have a nicer time with the Lions 🥺💕

1) A song you like with a colour in the title

In Extremo - Rotes Haar: The title is in German, my native language, and translates to "red hair". I adore the lyrics - they're like a gothic-romantic poem adoring a red-headed lover, and I think the unique, kinda feral voice of the singer adds to that. As a redhead myself I cannot help but feel a bit flustered whenever I listen to it.

7) A song to drive to

Akira Yamaoka - End of Small Sanctuary (Silent Hill 3 Soundtrack): Oooh this was a tough one, as driving a car causes me so much anxiety that I haven't done it since getting my license xD But I do listen to a lot of music while on the train, and even have a whole playlist dedicated to such wanderlust, from which I picked this song. The whole Silent Hill soundtrack is a masterpiece that puts me in an almost meditative state and creates perfect dense atmosphere. This track always evokes this feeling of... calm loneliness, in a sense, of watching a rainy landscape pass by my train window, of walking through empty autumn streets... I can also highly recommend the rest of Yamaokas work btw!

9) A song that makes you happy

The Amazing Devil - Fair: This song RUINS me in the best way! It makes me WEEP my eyes out every fucking time yet makes me feel so warm and happy, it's so SOFT and gentle and loving, I'm gonna loose it... I cannot promise this is the last time this band is gonna come up in one of my music picks, they're one of my favorites.

Ok cannot remember exactly if it was on tumblr or on twitter, (I think it was on twitter) but I still feel like that reaction image of Michael Rodent gouging his eyes out when I think about it.

Even if we disregard the context and the references (Hello, Russian-esque Army in a setting that looks vaguely early 20thC) , what in Block's whole character makes you think he is a fascist??? That he is part of the Army??? That he is wearing a long coat???

9.worst part of canon

I'm gonna say it IMHO: The Kin being so underdeveloped, not even as characters but as a whole concept.

I get it might be out of certain monetary constraints or maybe other stuff that escapes me.

Still, IPL have a gold mine right there, conceptually speaking. And they have barely tapped onto it. I say this as a person who lists Nara as one of her favorite characters. (I think she actually has a depth a lot of people in the fandom seem to pass by.)

Where are my Kin Elders? Are there no companions of Taya's age that she could have around? I'm not even asking for more variety on the Herb Brides but... idk just tell me how their thing goes? What about those of the Kin who have been in close contact with the Town (Like the dancer in the Broken Heart or the Worms that work in Vladito's well)? Do they hate it or maybe have they grown to love it and they feel as displaced as the townspeople do in the Nocturnal Ending? WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THE KIN? I WANT MORE ON BODDHO AND SUOK AND BOS TUROKH!!!

Thank goodness I wrote a lot about it (If anyone's interested I shall share links) but man. Something more in canon would have been so good.

71) Your favorite LGBTQ+ fiction?

Je mettrai en première place Le prieuré de l'Oranger de Samantha Shannon. L'intrigue est distrayante, les héroïnes sont attachantes et ce livre m'a permis de m'évader à un moment où j'en avais besoin.

Je pense aussi à The Ascendant Series de K. Arsenautl Rivera. J'avais été divertie par l'aspect épique, le monde de fantasy égalitaire porté par des femmes puissantes et les influences japonaises et mongoles. Les couvertures sont superbes en plus.

Un petit mot aussi pour La dame à la louve de Rénée Vivien. Même si toutes les nouvelles du recueil ne correspondent pas à cette catégorie, l'écriture est juste superbe.

Récemment j'ai aimé Valiant Ladies de Melissa Grey et The Valkyrie de Kate Heartfield.

Dans le pavillon rouge de Pauline Chen. J'ai trouvé ce livre par hasard à la bibliothèque quand je vivais à Paris. Je ne connaissais pas du tout le classique de la littérature chinoise dont il s'inspire, mais j'ai été emportée et transportée dans l'histoire.
