Thank you so much for tagging me @gillianthecat!! I’m so very rusty at this posting to tumblr thing kjdshksjdhf I never actually intended to make a separate place to scream about bl (and certainly not another tumblr...) but uhhh here I am!

Watching:

Love Bill — Not the best but I love the color palette? The two leads are cute. It had potential in the beginning but they kind of lost it halfway thru.

Choco Milk Shake — I love the concept of this. It’s not my favorite Korean BL, but it’s very cute. I love Strongberry, so I’ll watch anything they produce and they never miss.

Why You… Y Me? — I love this show so much. It’s funny and smart and refreshing. It’s not entirely BL, but even the het couple is charming. Seriously, give this a go. Also! Guide from GHGH is in it with an extremely small role but I love that he's connecting two of my fave BLs together. WAIT OKAY ALSO Jet Somjet Saejang is so unbelievably attractive it makes me want to commit violence. Like. He just looks like that. AND is apparently friends ??? (https://www.instagram.com/p/ClfcAM1vNBv/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) with Jackson Wang??? And on top of all that he can act. Cool. cool. cool. COOL. I think the BL couples in this have good chemistry, which is 1000% the thing I'm most drawn to. Especially Paul and Nice, I love them so much. I just hope they all get proper kiss scenes (that are in focus gdi). I would prefer they break out the polyamory, but I Know they won't, in which case, I'm rooting for Shogun to win the battle over Green (sorry Green!).

Between Us — I....Hate this one. ihkjshfdkjhdsf I’m only watching it because I like Boun and Prem, but this is so painful to watch. I also really didn’t like UWMA tbh... I don’t like really intense, dark stories in my BL. This one is much lighter than UWMA, but it’s soooo boring. 

Oh! My Assistant — A funny and cute one to watch in between the other ones.

Rewatching:

Ghost Host Ghost House... I have a problem, okay. My hyper-fixation is REAL. I’ve got BoyTod brain disease. Seriously. Their chemistry is ridiculous and my tinhat is so tight I'm 98% positive they have something going on. Idk what that is, but god I'm lost in the sauce.

Thinking of rewatching Enchante and Bad Buddy. There were a lot of good series this year. (Lord 2023 looks jam-packed too.)

Plan To Watch:

I still need to watch the Cherry Magic movie!! Maaaybe Eternal Yesterday, but I hear it’s super sad and I’m allergic to sad. I cannot wait for Candy Color Paradox in about a week! There are so many others I'm waiting for/I'm totally forgetting.

Vietnam just knows how to domesticity, okay? And what a sweet episode with a few very worrying moments for Nghia and his now certain heart condition. My love is mine was such a good line because so much of their issues were because of Thien's insecurities and the way they both reacted to their love being seen and having them reclaim their love for each other was darling. I just love this kind of sweet episode.

Oh, and Nghia's mom is definitely either dead or dying and I'm a bit worried because I believe next week in the final episode...

LOVE BILL is a sweet, sometimes a bit sad, very funny, hot, very interesting drama. I love it more with each episode, Ba Vinh so such a good actor, he has such a fantastic chemistry with all his co-stars (that I’ve see anyway).

Love Bill Episode 10 (finale)

UNFORTUNATELY META, you have been warned.

We got the sad ending I’ve been worried about for several episodes with separation AND a three year time skip AND death.

But first: sex in a tent. Excellent use of back lighting.

It was everything chronologically after this point that was very depressing. It did make sense that Nghia would choose his mother’s (homophobic) wishes, and there was never going to be a real way to get around a time skip other than a permanent breakup. But it’s annoying that Nghia never actually explained, although Thien was obviously able to guess what happened. Very typical BL lack of communication. They did get time for Nghia to become a singer and Thien to become successful with his screenwriting but *boom* heart condition. At least this was foreshadowed.

And at least they were together at the end. It’s not much but it’s something, the Dad really came through on that one.

I was not expecting the ending time skip to old man Thien and Nghia’s spirit--there’s a of couple BLs that end like this but it’s more of a general romance trope and one that I’ve never really liked. I understand intellectually why people find this kind of ending romantic, but it’s never hit right for me (except maybe in Dear Doctor), although it’s not especially out of place here--my issue is more killing Nghia at all. I think my ending would have been having Nghia recover and them end up together, but with the knowledge that they were on borrowed time and just leave it at that. I think a HFN ending would have fit the overall tone of the series, where an HEA admittedly might not.

I’d consider this the best BL to come out of Vietnam so far (I don’t count Goodbye Mother as a BL for various reasons), but both for sadness reasons and age gap involving a high school student reasons it’s not for everyone. A fair amount of it really appealed to my preferences and viewpoint specifically (of all things Leonard Cohen’s Anthem got quoted in this episode, was the writer in my brain listening to my earworms?). So it’s going on my favorites list, but I still feel I was done dirty.

As usual, it’s driving me absolutely crazy that Vietnamese BL isn’t on My Drama List and I can’t see what else this writer has done.
