illusions of someday (M, 26k, complete)
by softgoldenglow/@usignedupforthis
The one where law student Louis and aspiring musician/full-time barista Harry are both a bit of a mess. There's dance parties and rainy beaches, vodka shots and mugs of tea. The world is hard but they're figuring it out together.

I'm a very petty person and I'm very good at keeping grudges but my memory is pretty shit soooo I have google sheet where a put the names of the name of the people (celebrities, influencers, up and coming musicians, etc) who have been shit in some way or another towards Harry, Louis, the other boys of 1d and the fandom with their respective offenses 😭. And everytime someone that I don't recognize mentions them I check my list before I get excited about it
🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is amazing. That is a level of petty I can only aspire to.

EXCLUSIVE: Inside Louis Tomlinson's Faith in the Future tour as support act praises 'mentor'
Louis Tomlinson has been entertaining his stateside fans with his Faith In The Future tour and up-and-coming singer and support act Andrew Cushin has heaped the praise on the star
By Jamie Roberts | 3 AUG 2023
Louis Tomlinson has once again been wowing the crowds as he continues his hugely successful solo career.
The former One Direction man, 31, has recently finished his immensely popular stateside leg of his Faith in the Future tour, playing at some of the most iconic venues the country has to offer - and having his shirt ripped off his back along the way. One man who has been up close and personal with the singer over the past few months is fellow musician Andrew Cushin.
The confident English rising talent was selected to be a support act on a number of the shows, playing in the likes of Chicago, Las Vegas and New York. It's been a dream come true for the talented Newcastle native who has opened up to Mirror US about the epic experience.
Labelling Louis a "mentor," Andrew - who is signed to Pete Doherty's record label, Strap Originals - explained he has been able to lean on the star for advice at times on the tour, and admitted it had been "such a good learning experience".
Tumblr media
📸 Stephen Lovekin
He's a busy lad as you can imagine," Andrew said. "We've spoke and we've had a couple of drinks and all that and there's been bits of advice when I've needed it. So it's good that I know that he's there if I ever need anything. He's been there and done it all, so he's been a very good tour mentor."
Andrew continued to say he had been extremely impressed with how everything runs on a tour of this magnitude. "Everybody's such a seasoned pro on this tour," he admitted, revealing how it seems nobody is fazed by anything.
He said the entire behind-the-scenes staff show such a high level of professionalism which in turn has given him a huge aspiration and something to work for.
"There's things that I can look at on this tour and take to my own gigs which will make a massive difference," he added. While Andrew has got a big following of his own building nicely at home in the UK, he admits Louis' fans have been nothing short of phenomenal as he tried to turn them into fans of his own - something he seems to have had big success in doing, with homemade signs, bracelets and even tattoos being shared in support.
"These fans really are so, so dedicated to everything that Louis is doing and it's an absolute pleasure to play for them. I was a bit nervous for the first few shows to see how it was going to go down because I'm here without the band and all that and I didn't know if it would have the same effect just me and an acoustic and piano but it's getting the same reception, so it's just a credit to the audience. It's been amazing.
"It's been one massive learning curve and it's so much fun and I'm enjoying it."
Andrew, whose previous tune Where's My Family Gone featured former Oasis man Noel Gallagher, has also released two records during his time with Louis. It's Coming Round Again has been winning rave reviews online by those at the gigs and was filmed at one of the concerts, so too has newest hit Wor Flags.

Momma and Poppa like to be rock stars. They dance around in the den, and sing their favorite songs until their voices give out — pretending that they’re celebrated musicians, performing in packed stadiums, in front of adoring crowds. Momma always dreamed of being a famous singer. Back in high school, she even learned how to play the guitar, and started performing at local bars and lounges — hoping that she’d be discovered by someone. She had the voice of a fallen angel, and she played her instrument with a natural flair… but she never found any luck in cultivating a music career. Maybe she was too young to follow her dreams. Maybe she was living in the wrong town. Maybe she just wasn’t as good as she thought she was. Eventually, she gave up on her unrealistic aspirations, and settled for a normal life… and that’s when she decided to propose to Poppa — at the tender age of seventeen. After years and years of touring together — from living rooms, to bathrooms, to kitchens — the two lovers have developed a pretty lengthy set list, and they’ve managed to perfect their sound. They blend together beautifully… but, aside from their imaginary audience, nobody will ever get to hear them sing. That dream of Harry’s is long dead. He’s got a life now — a husband, a house, a baby on the way — and real responsibilities. If given the chance to go back and relive his past, he still wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. Some things just don’t work out the way that we planned them to… and there’s nothing that we can do about it. Perhaps, he and Louis are famous in another life… in another world. Maybe he’s living out his dreams somewhere else in the stars. Momma and Poppa like to pretend to be rock stars… and, though it’s only make-believe, it’s good enough for them.

questions you would ask louis
another great question
as someone who’s been in the industry for years and has seen all sides of it, what’s something (or some things) you would change about it? what advice would you give to aspiring musicians who don’t know about how the industry works?
what’s your the step by step writing process? anything in particular you do that may be different to other writers? any rituals?
what’s one artist/writer (dead or alive) you’d love to collaborate with?
with the away from home festival and 28clothing, what’s another business endeavor you’d like to pursue?
at the beginning of your solo career you had a pop/mainstream sound, which slowly developed into the rock/punk/indie sound you have now (godbless). she is beauty, however, is more of a dancey psychedelic sound reminiscing of your early sound, which brings more flavor into the album. are there any other genres you’d be interested in exploring?
related to prev: i’m not sure if you’ve ever talked about it, but what made you go for a mainstream sound at the beginning? and how was the journey from that to finding your true sound?
speaking of, according to different interviews/tweets, you were working on an album around the back to you/just like you/miss you era. what happened to that album? what are your honest thoughts and feelings on it? how would have it sounded like? any songs from it (besides always you) that were reworked for walls and/or faith in the future?
you’ve said your favorite part of being a musician are the live shows. what is the main feeling you get when you’re up in stage? how does the energy level of the audience play into your feelings and overall performance? what is your favorite moment when you are performing? favorite fan projects?
louies louies louies. every night you express your gratitude and love for your fans, and something i’ve observed is how your relationship with fans and vice versa is quite different from any other musicians’ relationships with their fans. why do you think that is? what distinguishes it from others?
you wrote the majority of one direction songs and had more control of the band’s sound in the later albums. what motivated you to fight for more creative control? what challenges did you (guys) encounter? what was the label’s reaction if you’re comfortable sharing that? and how does it feel to know the band wouldn’t have reached the status it reached without you because you’re the heart of it you have the most writing credits?
how are them creative juices going? any new songs or ideas *eyes emoji*
(i think you’re one of the most influential artists of our time whether the public sees it or not. your music has helped us in many ways. your music came to me at a time where i needed it the most. i felt comforted by your words, knowing i’m not alone. you gave me a safe space to be myself, who i truly am, and feel nothing but pure joy. being at your show and seeing all those pride flags, being wrapped in my own flag, while listening to all this time, she is beauty and copy of a copy of a copy was an experience i will never forget. you’re the reason i met incredible people who i love with my entire life. i will always be grateful for that. thank you for sharing your art with us. you’re very talented and you deserve to shine as an artist after all the bullshit you had to deal with. i’m so proud of you and i’m happy to be here and be your fan) can i give you a hug?
send louis related asks because i miss him

For me the bigger issue with H off stage x H on stage/doing promo/red carpets is the fact that fashion magazines (especially that V one which is deep in his ass and serves as a promo platform for his recent stunts as well) call him fashion icon because of the looks he’s serving when all eyes are on him but when you see his fashion choices for his days off it’s literally so dull and ordinary like random male influencers dress much more exciting than fashionicon!Harry for his days off. And it just gets me annoyed because I feel like I’m the only one who see this? So I will repeat myself again but imo the only one who should be called fashion icon is his stylist, because H is basically only a human hanger.
Also I feel like we get so used to H and his queer fashion choices (whenever it’s only a stage costume he got dressed by his gay stylist or his conscious personal choice) and him queercoding so now most of his fans who aren’t 100% sure about his sexuality are so confused why he looks so straight these months. But if we look at other closeted men in the industry, do they queercode? What are they doing to hint their sexuality that we know they are in fact gay but closeted?
And to add to the discussion why there aren’t new younger male artists to take H’s part for 8-20 years old. Maybe it’s a bit conspiracy but what if S*ny holds them back just to proove that H is in fact that new legendary artist who will be remembered forever like Bowie/Mercury/Prince? He only hit his 30’s this year but he’s already a legend worth to be remembered in the music history and while I find this super artifical and know how overhyped he is by everybody, what if there might he someone who will challenge him and top him in charts and take over his fandom but S*ny rather doesn’t want anyone new so there won’t be anyone to challenge H and might be more exciting than H is. I feel like all males who might be able to take H’s fans by the way they look and aspire to be fashion icons are all actors - Timoth*e, J*cob Elo*di maybe B*rry K*oghan for example - but all are actors not musicians so they can’t compete with him and so in the music industry it’s only females vs H. Nobody else. And no matter how much more popular these female singers are, they also won’t compete with H to take over his fandom.
Hi, anon!
I agree with you that his fashion icon status is mostly due to his stylists. But it's also due to Harry having the confidence and the curage to wear the stuff he wears, knowing it's provocative, flamboyant and queercoded.
I think there is a difference between unwillingly closeted and willingly closeted celebrities. The willingly closeted won't queercode, they want to appear straight. The unwillingly closeted will queercode. Billie has talked about how she queercoded before she came out to make people see her for who she is. She was hoping people picked up on it so she didn’t have to spell it out. People who are straight passing need to queercode, but others don't. Louis and Shawn don't need to queercode. They fit the gay stereotype. So people have already drawn their conclusions.
I agree that Sony might have that motivaton, but that doesn’t explain why UMG or the other record labels aren’t trying to compete with H and Sony. So idk.

Merry Christmas Sea!!
When I was a Larrie I remember Christmas 2021 when all my mutuals wrote paragraphs and paragraphs about the "stunt" "babygate" and how they felt triggered (!!!!!!!!!!!) by Freddie's presence among Louis' family! The things I read about someone that's only a kid and about Louis from his supposed fans! In Christmas! They were "supporting each other" because he was there! Grow up women acting like that, I have no words to describe how crazy it seems to me now.
Thank God now I see it with other eyes and I realized how crazy and unhealthy that behavior is. I remember that no one could even say that he was cute. Nowadays it makes me so happy that Louis can spend time with him because it's Louis' life and because I think about the emotion he had in the first show where Freddie was present and I think about how happy he must be now and it just fills my heart with happiness! I want Louis forever happy! He deserves it.
I still see the comments that Larries leave for Louis' family and it disgusts me and the way they talk about Freddie online and how they harass Louis makes me even more disgusted and repulsed and I just hope that Louis doesn't actually read everything that.
Hello!
Louis’ life is Louis’ life. For the most part, Louis keeps his personal life fairly private from his fans— he’s had enough turmoil. I think he has tried without success to control the public discussion, sometimes with awkwardness, but 90% of the time it backfires. Now Louis simply withdraws from that area of fandom life. He’s not in family pictures and he presents only what he can control. In the end, Louis is a musician, not an influencer, and he doesn’t make his living selling his lifestyle. He used to be openly critical of the Kardashians, but that’s the model his sisters aspire to, and they’ve become wealthy that way. So … life goes on, I guess.
The family is famous-adjacent, and the public is really interested in gossip about them. Louis is caught between wanting to protect his privacy (and mental health) and wanting to support his family’s lifestyle. He’s in the strange position of being the moneymaker / parent-figure of the whole clan, but also having no real say about their public conduct, except to limit the extent they use him in their influencing activities. I don’t mean just his sisters either.
For the most part, Louis is able to enjoy his private life in peace now, and we can see that the family really enjoys their time together. After all these years, they seem to have arrived at a point of stability in some ways. It has been a complicated life. In many ways, it’s fascinating (which is why fans and the general public can’t look away), but Louis and Freddie both seem to be happy. That’s the important thing for them going forward, especially since Freddie is growing older and starting to understand his father and mother and the crazy internet culture around them (not the least since nothing about Freddie has been protected from day one— from all sides. Louis himself contributes to the curiosity about his own son. I do not exempt him). Louis has always treated family above anything else in his life. That’s one thing that will never change.

Harry looks up and immediately freezes. Next to Ms. Archie stands the boy from just the other day. The boy with the leather jacket and chipped black nails, that might or might not be sketched in the very book Harry has just placed on the table in front of him. The leather jacket is missing today, probably because they aren’t allowed as part of their required uniform attire, but Harry can still see the fading black nail polish on his nails, and eyeliner around his eyes. Harry’s mouth goes a little dry. This boy is so intriguing to him.
“Ye-yes, Ms. Archie?” Harry tries to play it cool, but he’s almost positive that his cheeks are burning red, and he’s relieved neither of them can tell how fast his heart is beating in his chest.
The boy seems to also recognize Harry, because his lips curve into a knowing smirk.
“Harry is at the top of his class. He’s your best bet at getting familiar with things around here.” She explains.
Louis nods, his smirk still very prominent on his face. “Thank you Ms. Archie. I’ll be sure to take advantage of young Harold here.”
Summary: Two stories, eleven years, and the two boys that never stopped loving each other.
📚 Until I Found You [E, 45k]
Harry Styles is the popstar of the century, or so the media proclaims. He’s linked to every omega he’s seen with, donned as an alpha lothario who isn’t ready to settle down any time soon. His team works hard to publicise him as an alpha who can’t keep his knot in his pants, but not everything is as it seems.
Louis Tomlinson, an aspiring musician working as a porn star and camboy, is waiting for his big break. When he meets Harry Styles he can’t stand the alpha that only uses his power and fame to bed as many omegas as possible. He runs into him at a party and hopes to never see him again only to find that Harry’s assistant is dating Louis’ best friend. To make matters worse, Harry’s about to embark on a world tour and is in need of a guitarist at the last minute, an opportunity Zayn uses to put in a good word for Louis.
What happens when the opportunity that Louis has been waiting for finally comes, but at the price of having to share the stage with one Harry Styles?
📚 No One Else Will Do (Co-write with Awriterwrites) [M, 13k]
Harry visibly takes a deep breath. “I’ll do it. I’ll...help you through your heat.” He looks more determined now as he stands up straighter and his eyes look at Louis more intensely.
“Yeah?” Louis doesn’t mean to sound so surprised but he’s sort of in a state of shock. He’s never been with an alpha before, and the fact that his first time is going to be with Harry— his best friend— well, he couldn’t really ask for anyone better if he’s honest.
It takes Louis' early heat for Harry and Louis to figure things out.
📚 Crave [E, 90k]
“Hello, I’m Louis Tomlinson, it’s nice to meet you.” There’s a little bit of shakiness to his voice, but Louis is still proud he didn’t lose his cool right then and there.
The other man grins, his dimple poking out in the most beautiful way, stretching his own hand out to shake Louis’. It’s warm and inviting, just like Louis remembers the rest of his body being. Louis swallows hard.
“I’m Harry Styles. Nice to meet you too, Mr. Tomlinson.” And God. That voice. That deep, deep voice. Louis has to close his eyes for a second before his dick gets hard right in the middle of the conference room. The way Harry says Louis’ name, sort of teasing, like he knows exactly what he’s doing makes Louis want to put him over his lap and give him a good spanking for behaving that way.
All eyes are on Louis Tomlinson to bring new talent to save Hanover Records from the mess the previous executive left behind. His newest artist, Harry Styles, is charismatic and everything Louis needs to revive the label. It’s up to Louis and his team to make Harry the star he was born to be. When Harry and Louis come face to face, it isn’t the first time they’ve met, and their worlds are about to be turned upside down.
📚 Never Too Late [M, 18k]
Harry’s confused for a moment before it hits him: the little boy is signing. Harry squats down to get to the boy’s level again and mirrors the same action.
“Dad?” He inquires. Harry learned basic sign language after having met a fan who was deaf. He made it his mission to learn signing so that he’d be able to communicate with other fellow hearing impaired fans.
The little boy smiles brightly, his tears now long gone. He goes on to extend both hands, palms up as if he’s asking where? Followed by the previous sign which means Dad. Harry smiles to himself at the amazing little guy standing in front of him.
He stands up taking the boy’s hand, “Let’s go find your dad,” he tells him making the motion with his hand.
Just having come out of the closet and recovering from vocal surgery, famous recording artist Harry Styles needs to get away from LA to work on new music needing to prove to his label that his career isn't over. Little does he know that his life is about to change forever when he runs into an old friend at the city he's decided to escape to.
UNDERAPPRECIATED GEM:
📚 I Like It Better When It Hurts [E, 6k]
Dear Mr. Louis, Hello. I’m Harry. I got your contact from a good friend of mine and was wondering if I can get your services. My 30th birthday is coming up and all I’ve ever wanted is to get spanked, maybe more? If you’re interested, please contact me. I’d love to hear from you. Sincerely, Harry Marcel reads over the words. He guesses there isn’t a much better way to ask for what he needs. He almost changes the name again but decides Harry is fine. It’s generic and nothing that can be traced to him. At least he doesn’t think so. Okay, he’s overthinking again so he clicks the send button before he can talk himself out of it. His heart races as soon as he does. He almost wants to take it back, figure out a way to undo it, but he takes a big gulp of his wine to calm down. It’s fine. This is fine. He can do this.

Ted Casher's personal encyclopedia of jazz intimates runs from Louis Armstrong to Lester Young, with room in between for Duke Ellington and Bill Clinton. (With photo)
So for Mansfield's own legendary sax man, the new PBS television series tracing the history of jazz from Dixieland to Miles Davis was a walk down memory lane.
“ It gave me a chance to visit with a lot of guys who've moved on to that big bandstand in the sky,” said Casher, who has played or hung out with the likes of Armstrong, Cannonball Adderly and the Duke.
He also jammed with his share of living legends, including Dizzie Gillespie and former President Bill Clinton.
Casher received his first sax from his uncle as a boy, and quickly plunged into a love affair with music and jazz that would fill a lifetime. Almost from the time he first heard Benny Goodman on the radio as a child, he said, he knew it would turn out that way.
“ I remember the first time I sat with the junior high school band and thinking, this is what I want to do with my life,” said Casher, now 63.
For a youngster growing up in rural Maine, it was an unlikely path. His mother wanted him to become a doctor. “ At that time, Jewish boys aspired to become doctors or go into business,” he said. “ It was a tough mold to break out of.”
The first indication that Casher would be unable to withstand the pull of jazz came with the nightly broadcasts of New York's WNEW. Although the station's live jazz programs originated hundreds of miles away, they were received with crystal clarity in Skowhegan.
“ Our baby sitter liked to listen to WNEW, and so did I,” he said. “ It was like heaven.”
By 13, Casher had mastered both clarinet and sax and was playing professionally for $7 a night. He eventually came under the wing of Down East bandleader Al Corey and a succession of other mentors.
“ Today, technology permits a bunch of guys to go into a garage and do their own thing,” he said. “ Back then, I was a willing pupil and I was fortunate to be accepted as a worthy apprentice to some fine musicians. I learned a lot that way.”
Beginning in the late 1950s, Casher mixed gigs with more conventional training at the Boston Conservatory and the Berklee College of Music, accumulating stories along the way.
At the Lenox School in New York, a visiting Miles Davis shrugged off a greeting from an admiring Casher.
“ Don't take it personal,” said a heavy-set man with an engaging smile. “ He treats everybody that way.”
The heavy-set man was Cannonball Adderly.
By 1964, Casher had moved to Mansfield, starting a family and keeping company with an increasingly prestigious list of jazz greats.
Casher shared the spotlight briefly at times with trumpet players Armstrong and Gillespie. Teaching rock composition at Berklee in the 1970s, Casher was sought out by Ellington to talk about the jazz-influenced rock that groups such as Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears were then recording.
Casher later taught at Dean College in Franklin and played in a number of revival bands under the names of such legends as Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey. He continues to do session work and play in bands throughout the Northeast, and teaches a jazz ensemble at Rhode Island's Ponagansett High School.
It was in 1979 that the local jazzman had his most unusual encounter with a talented musician and future president. Between sets at a college reunion in Boston, a handsome, well-tailored man walked up to Casher and started making comments about his sax.
“ You play?” Casher asked the knowledgeable outsider.
“ Used to, but I don't have much time for it anymore,” said the stranger, who explained that he was governor of Arkansas. So impressed was Casher that he offered to let Clinton sit in on tenor sax. He did.
“ He was pretty good, too,” said Casher. “ Played `Take The A Train' and a lot of other stuff. In fact, I wouldn't have been ashamed to bring him to a gig.”
In 1992, the newly elected president, whose sax-playing attracted attention during the campaign, thanked Casher by inviting him to perform at his inauguration. He did so as a band member of Bo Winiker's outfit.
Casher says he's impressed with the picture painted by the TV series of jazz as a creative force and a vital underpinning of American culture. He says he believes the reason jazz has been such a potent social force is the same reason it proved to be so influential in his own life.
“ Jazz combines both intellect and emotion, and it requires your creative input,” Casher said. “ Classical musicians take a score and interpret whatever it is the composer intended. I play jazz, and I'm composing as soon as I get the sax in front of my face.”
“ That's what I love about jazz.”
RICK FOSTER can be reached at 508-236-0372 or via e-mail at [email protected]
Considered one of the most respected musicians in New England, Casher shared the stage with everyone from Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin, to Louis Armstrong and former President Bill Clinton, over his long and successful jazz career.

Chevalier de Saint-Georges
Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges(December 25, 1745 – June 10, 1799), was a FrenchCreolevirtuoso violinist and composer, who was conductor of the leading symphony orchestra in Paris.
Saint-Georges was born in the then French colony ofGuadeloupe, the son of Georges de Bologne Saint-Georges, a wealthy married planter, and an enslaved African woman named Nanon. At the age of seven he was taken to France, and at the age of thirteen educated asgendarmeto the King. He received music lessons from François-Joseph Gossec and likely violin lessons from Jean-Marie Leclair, while continuing to study fencing.
In 1764 Antonio Lolli dedicated two concertos to Saint-Georges. In 1769 he joined a new symphony orchestra; two years later he was appointed concert master and soon started composing. In 1773 he was appointed conductor of "Le Concert des Amateurs". In 1775 he introduced the symphonie concertante, using the possibilities offered by a newbow. In 1776 he was proposed as the next conductor of the Paris Opera, but was subsequently denied this role by a petition by the divas of the time to the Queen. This then put an end to any aspirations that Saint-Georges had to becoming the music director of the institution. In 1778 he lived for 2.5 months next to Mozart in the Chaussee d'Antinand stopped composing instrumental works in 1785. He knew many composers, including Salieri,Gossec,Gretry,Mozart and Gluck. He commissioned and performed the Paris Symphonies by Haydn and travelled to London where he met with the Prince of Wales and George IIIin 1787.
Following the 1789 outbreak of the French Revolution, the younger Saint-Georges served as a colonel of the Légion St.-Georges(established in 1792), the first all-African regiment in Europe, fighting on the side of the French First Republic. Today the Chevalier de Saint-Georges is best remembered as the first well-known classical composer of African ancestry. He composed numerous string quartets and other instrumental pieces, violin concertos as well as operas. Ludwig van Beethoven held his music and his views very highly.
Tumblr media
Joseph Bologne was born in Baillif, Basse-Terre as the son of a planter and former councilor at the parliament of Metz, Georges de Bologne Saint-Georges (1711–1774) and Nanon, his wife's 16-year-old enslaved African servant of Senegalese origin, who served as her personal maid. Bologne was legally married to Elisabeth Mérican (1722–1801) but acknowledged his son by Nanon and gave him his surname
Starting in the 17th century, a Code Noir had been law in France and its colonial possessions. On April 5, 1762, King Louis XV decreed that "Nègres et gens de couleur" (Africans and people of color) must register with the clerk of the Admiralty within two months. Many leading Enlightenment thinkers like Voltaire argued that Africans and their descendants were inferior to White Europeans. These laws and racist attitudes towards mixed-race people made it impossible for Joseph Bologne to marry anybody at his level of society, though he did have at least one serious romantic relationship.

Musical life and career
François-Joseph Gossec
Nothing is known about Saint-Georges' early musical training. Given his prodigious technique as an adult, Saint-Georges must have practiced the violin seriously as a child. There has been no documentation found of him as a musician before 1764, when violinistAntonio Lollicomposed two concertos, Op. 2, for him,[note 1]and 1766, when composerFrançois-Joseph Gossecdedicated a set of six string trios, Op. 9,to Saint Georges. Lolli may have worked with Bologne on his violin technique and Gossec on compositions.
(Beauvoir's novel says that "Platon", a fictional whip-toting slave commander onSaint-Domingue, "taught little Saint-Georges" the violin.[note 2])
Historians have discountedFrançois-Joseph Fétis' claim that Saint-Georges studied violin withJean-Marie Leclair. Some of his technique was said to reveal influence byPierre Gaviniès. Other composers who later dedicated works to Saint-Georges wereCarl Stamitzin 1770, and Avolio in 1778.
In 1769, the Parisian public was amazed to see Saint-Georges, the great fencer, playing as a violinist in Gossec's new orchestra,Le Concert des Amateurs. Four years later he became its concertmaster/conductor. In 1772 Saint-Georges created a sensation with his debut as a soloist, playing his first two violin concertos, Op. II, with Gossec conducting the orchestra. "These concertos were performed last winter at a concert of theAmateursby the author himself, who received great applause as much for their performance as for their composition." According to another source, "The celebrated Saint-Georges,mulatto fencer [and] violinist, created a sensation in Paris ... [when] two years later ... at theConcert Spirituel, he was appreciated not as much for his compositions as for his performances, enrapturing especially the feminine members of his audience."
Young Saint-Georges in 1768, aged 22. The three roses on his lapel were a Masonic symbol.
Saint-Georges's first compositions, Op. I, were a set of six string quartets, among the first in France, published by famed French publisher, composer, and teacherAntoine Bailleux. They were inspired byHaydn's earliest quartets, brought from Vienna by Baron Bagge. Saint-Georges wrote two more sets of six string quartets, threeforte-pianoand violin sonatas, a sonata for harp and flute, and six violin duets. The music for three other known compositions was lost: a cello sonata, performed in Lille in 1792, a concerto for clarinet, and one for bassoon.
Saint-Georges wrote twelve additional violin concertos, two symphonies, and eightsymphonie-concertantes, a new, intrinsically Parisian genre of which he was one of the chief exponents. He wrote his instrumental works over a short span of time, and they were published between 1771 and 1779. He also wrote sixopéras comiquesand a number of songs in manuscript.
In 1773, when Gossec took over the direction of the prestigiousConcert Spirituel, he designated Saint-Georges as his successor as director of theConcert des Amateurs. After fewer than two years under the younger man's direction, the group was described[by whom?]as "Performing with great precision and delicate nuances [and] became the best orchestra for symphonies in Paris, and perhaps in all of Europe."
Palais de Soubise, venue of Saint-Georges' orchestra
In 1781, Saint Georges'sConcert des Amateurshad to be disbanded due to a lack of funding. Playwright andSecret du RoispyPierre Caron de Beaumarchaisbegan to collect funds from private contributors, including many of theConcert'spatrons, to sendmaterielaid for the American cause. The plan to send military aid via a fleet of fifty vessels and have those vessels return withAmerican rice, cotton, or tobacco ended up bankrupting the French contributors as theAmerican congressfailed to acknowledge its debt and the ships were sent back empty. Saint-Georges turned to his friend and admirer,Philippe D'Orléans, duc de Chartres, for help. In 1773 at the age of 26, Philippe had been elected Grand Master of the 'Grand Orient de France' after uniting all the Masonic organizations in France. Responding to Saint-Georges's plea, Philippe revived the orchestra as part of theLoge Olympique, an exclusive Freemason Lodge.
RenamedLe Concert Olympique, with practically the same personnel, it performed in the grand salon of thePalais Royal. In 1785, Count D'Ogny, grand master of the Lodge and a member of its cello section, authorized Saint-Georges to commissionHaydnto composesix new symphoniesfor the Concert Olympique. Conducted by Saint-Georges, Haydn's "Paris" symphonies were first performed at the Salle desGardes-Suissesof theTuileries, a much larger hall, in order to accommodate the huge public demand to hear Haydn's new works. QueenMarie Antoinetteattended some of Saint-Georges's concerts at the Palais de Soubise, arriving sometimes without notice, so the orchestra wore court attire for all its performances. "Dressed in rich velvet or damask with gold or silver braid and fine lace on their cuffs and collars and with their parade swords and plumed hats placed next to them on their benches, the combined effect was as pleasing to the eye as it was flattering to the ear." Saint-Georges played all his violin concertos as soloist with his orchestra.

it makes me sad whenever i see Lestat suggested that Louis was a greater love than Nicki, when Nicki was actually the the truest of his loves. VC literally never had one (1) single wholesome romances, it was literally never a love story, except! of course a romance that occured between two characters when they were still living human. But Nobody could see this because everybody was busy not understanding why Nicki and Lestat's relationship fell apart and why Nicki was mentally ill/depressed.
Honestly it's partially Anne Rice's fault, she made Nicki talked like in abstracts in his break-up scene with Lestat. He was all "your light" and "darkness in my heart" and shit, he spoke like a depressed tolkien character so how is anybody supposed to know what he's talking about. Plus, because Lestat never knew why Nicki was miserable in the first place, he couldn't make the readers understand either. But all the clues are there, it's not hard to piece together the whole picture.
Nicki was the son of a wealthy merchant, despite not being born of aristocrat blood, he lived a life in luxury and was afford the best education. Hell, his family was rich enough that with his allowances Nicki could afford lessons with Mozart. the best of best musicians of his time. Fucking Mozart. He was educated to become a lawyer, a respected member of bourgeois class. Now, Nicki's racial coding is very vague, but he had curly hair and dark skin, which made me wonder if he had Romanian heritage, but that doesn't have to be the case. Either way, to belong with the higher society of French European bourgeois was probably considered a great privilege for Nicki. But then he decided to pursue a career as a violinist and ran away with Lestat to Paris and threw all of that out of the window to live in poverty with Lestat. Now, consider how scandalous what all of that would have looked to his rich Parisian friends and his family, he eloped with his lover (another man) to pursue a doomed career in the arts, can you imagine what sort of vile insults were being said behind his back and into his face? Lestat mentioned that Nicki's friends actually visited Nicki once, and they never even bothered to speak to Lestat. Do you ever wonder why they visited Nicki in the shitty apartment he shared with Lestat? Is it simply social calls? now, life in poverty wasn't that big of a deal with Lestat, since his failure of an aristocrat family wasted most of their family wealth away and they mostly just lived in a shitty broken castle, all title no wealth. Lestat already experienced much hardship in life from a very young age, and doing lowly manual labours to survive isn't that big of a drop in quality of life for him. Of course Lestat loved the luxuries that Bourgeois enjoyed: the frock coat, the pretty jewelries, but frankly he enjoyed those things the way um, a poor gay kid from 1980s dressing up for balls enjoyed jewelries and designer clothes. He was never part of bourgeois class nor had he ever wanted to be part of it, not the way Nicki aspired to actually belong in that society or cared much for high society's rules. Nicki told Lestat once that he enjoyed "sin", at that point in their conversation, they were talking about arts and theatre, so yes im sure "sin" was partially about Lestat's love for low brow arts. However, it was also quite obvious that he was actually talking about their relationship. And yeah honestly it's just Nicki's internalized homophobia talking. I don't think Lestat agreed, probably cause his mom always told him it's not a bad thing to be different and to be "an outsider", but Nicki probably did not have parental figures or friends in his life who taught him to believe in these things.
Yet Nicki was still very much in love with Lestat, Lestat made him very happy. I know what he said in a heat of passion and despair afterwards, but Nicki did not come to Paris cause he harboured some sort of nefarious intentions. He simply believed that being in love with another man was inherently sinful and bad, because you know, internalized homophobia. Being in love with Lestat made him happy, so he believed that the happiness he felt must also be bad and sinful. Basically he felt that being happy is a symptom of moral corruption, he only deserved to be miserable and live in guilt at all times. When Lestat could not understand his pain, it made him feel even more alone and miserable. Yet despite all of that, when Lestat could not understand his perspective, he retracted to himself because he did not want to burden Lestat with his misery. Lestat was with him, and to Nicki, surely he could ignore his own pain a little longer, a little better because of it! Except that of course Lestat would leave him very soon. Lestat soon confided in him that someone was stalking him, and shortly after Lestat went missing and has gone AWOL for months! months! Lestat was told that Nicki was worried sick, and i think in fear and in paranoia and grief, Nicki started to suspect the very worst and most bizzare. Months and months of horrible grief only for Lestat to gift he and their friends a luxurious apartment and their theatre. Nicki felt abandoned, he felt insulted that Lestat thinks material wealth is more important to him than his company. Lestat was the only thing that made life bearable for Nicki, and it broke Nicki's heart that Lestat thought he could have a life without him. So when Lestat came back to him dead and wrong, all Nicki's love in his heart turned into hate, and he lashed out at Lestat. Lestat has made him feel so miserable and alone, so he intended to hurt Lestat back. In fact, at that point his grief and paranoia probably led him to convince himself that Lestat either never loved him or didn't love him anymore. Again, Nicki thought that one person who made life feel like worth living, that one person that gave his life any meaning at all, just didn't want him anymore.
Lestat spent 60 years in a painful relationship with Louis but he had so little self-love that he considered 60 years of pain better than 6 months of bliss. All because what? Nicki coped with being dead and the existential despair that it caused in a very diabolical and theatrical way and Louis coped with being dead by being a spiteful little bitch pretending to be more human than Lestat like it's a competition? idk man at least Nicki actually loved Lestat.

In his testimony, Depp copped to some bad stuff, but this too was a play for sympathy, of a piece with the charm and courtliness he was at pains to display. That he came off as a guy unable to control his temper or his appetites was seen, by many of the most vocal social media users, to enhance his credibility, while Heard’s every tear or gesture was taken to undermine hers. The audience was primed to accept him as flawed, vulnerable, human, and to view her as monstrous.
Because he’s a man. Celebrity and masculinity confer mutually reinforcing advantages. Famous men — athletes, actors, musicians, politicians — get to be that way partly because they represent what other men aspire to be. Defending their prerogatives is a way of protecting, and asserting, our own. We want them to be bad boys, to break the rules and get away with it. Their seigneurial right to sexual gratification is something the rest of us might resent, envy or disapprove of, but we rarely challenge it. These guys are cool. They do what they want, including to women. Anyone who objects is guilty of wokeness, or gender treason, or actual malice.
[...]
The rage of men whose grievances are inchoate and inexhaustible found expression in a 58-year-old movie star’s humiliation of his 36-year-old former wife. I have to wonder: Are men OK? That’s a sincere question. Does the blend of self-pity, vanity, petulance and bombast that Depp displayed on the stand represent how we want to see ourselves or our sons? That’s a rhetorical question. The answer is yes.
Not all men, though. Right? Now that the trial is over, we’ll find new things to be ambiguous about, new venues where indeterminacy can serve as an alibi for the same old cruelty, and for its newer iterations. Johnny Depp is being embraced as a hero in some quarters, but his victory extends even to those who will allow themselves to feel troubled by the outcome of the trial and then move on. Some of us may wince a little when we watch “Pirates of the Caribbean” or “Donnie Brasco,” but we’ll probably still watch. They’re pretty good movies, and it’s not as if they can be expunged from the collective memory. That hasn’t happened to Louis C.K., or Woody Allen, or Michael Jackson, or Mel Gibson, or even Bill Cosby. Some of them have gone to court, some have faced public censure and disgrace, but they all remain woven into the fabric of the culture, and their behavior is too. We may not entirely forget, but we mostly forgive.
Let’s at least be clear about what that means. It means that we value the comfort and self-regard of men, especially famous ones, more than we value the safety and dignity of women, even famous ones.

Hi Gina,
I think I remember someone asking some time ago (but I can't find the ask in your blog) for a fic where H was a popstar and hired L as a guitarist for his tour. And L was also a camboy/porn star.
At the time it ringed a bell but I was unable to find it.
Today i searched my ao3 bookmarks for something else and stumbled on what I'm confident is the fic wanted: "Until I Found You" by dimpled_halo (https://archiveofourown.org/works/16767277)
Summary:
Hope the ask was on your blog (and not one of the others I follow) and that the person see this
Hi Leah. Oh, I vaguely recall someone asking about that, too. God knows where it is in my huge LOST AND FOUND tag, though! LOL! Thank you so much for sharing it though. Hopefully whomever was looking for it will see this!
