CHANGE OF SOUND

Before I begin making notes about the highlights of these two bedtime meditations, I want to apologise for posting irregularly. There has been a spike in social events that has caused a change in my routine. My hobby hours, morning meditations and blog writing have suffered my neglect.

Moving on.

I can see a pattern in the type of sounds I have heard during my meditations in the last few weeks. I began hearing sounds from my head in the first week of June 2023. It began with war drum kind of unrhythmic claps. Those drum strikes were muted during some meditations.

The war drum clacking changed as a sound, to clicking. After a few meditations of hearing the clicking sound, it changed to an unrhythmic ticking. The ticking has also undergone a change. It has changed to a flicking. During last two meditations, the flicking has turned into a sound that resembles paper folding.

Since June, that’s a progression from a thick, taut and hollow surface to a thin, loose and solid surface. From the leather surface of a war drum to a distanced war drum. From a distanced war drum to the ticking of a wrist watch. From the ticking of a wrist watch to the impression of a wrist watch’s clicks by flicking nails. From the flicking of nails to the folding of paper.

The graduation is smooth and irreversible. Until a new sound is established, I keep my mind open to previously heard sounds to repeat.

Mình đã từng lo anh ấy sẽ đồng hành cùng trượt băng cả đời. Chính anh cũng từng nói thế, rằng đôi chút cô đơn vẫn hiện hữu trong anh.

Chẳng phải mình muốn bỏ qua hay đánh giá thấp trượt băng, chỉ là mình nghĩ con người, trừ gia đình, có lẽ anh vẫn có những điều chỉ có thể chia sẻ với người bạn đời của mình. Và mình sợ anh cô đơn. Vì phần nào, dù chỉ là hạt cát giữa hằng hà sa số trên thế gian, mình đang cảm nhận được điều đấy.

Một trong những lần rung động của cuộc đời mình, là khi được đọc bản dịch của buổi diễn năm đó. Rơi lệ là cảm giác cộng hưởng, cũng là sự xót xa dành cho anh. Và vì mình biết, mình không thể giúp được anh.

Vì thế, dù có bất ngờ, cô đơn, hay một chút mất mát khi biết anh lấy vợ. Khi đã đưa mọi thứ về đường ray, sự an lòng bất chợt ập tới.

Dẫu sao, mình vẫn luôn cầu mong thứ tốt đẹp nhất tới với anh.

… chỉ là từ giờ vẫn xưng anh có sao không nhỉ?

In both these meditations, I have had a new experience. It is to do with the sounds in my head. During the bedtime meditation, the flicking sounds had changed to a waterfall! It happened for a fraction of a second but I am pretty sure that a waterfall began running inside my head!

The only reason it lasted for a second is because I stopped meditating the moment I heard a new sound. At the depths of mind where I meditate, my hearing gets interiorised to the point of hearing sounds in my own head.

I have barely got used to hearing the clacks, clicks, ticks and flicks. I am not prepared to hear a waterfall getting turned on in my head. I have read about the chakra sound of a waterfall but all the reading and imagining doesn’t prepare for such advanced meditation.

It was the same during the morning meditation.
