AH—
That's- one of the arts that I like the most, I drew both in different AUs(I say AUs bc "years" would be weird, please anyone correct me q-q). The Melodys have different personalities from each other, but Threeboot and Retroboot have kinda similar vibes, but Threeboot being more sympathetic and empathetic than Retroboot.
Reboot and Cartoon have a more kind and soft personalities, but Cartoon ends up being more morbid than the Reboot one a few times.
Any questions, I'm open to answer it :>

Geoff Johns saying "Fuck it" and using the Retroboot Legion in Justice Society after he was forced to use Bendis's Legion in Doomsday Clock is a level of gall and pettiness I feel obligated to support

I don't think "fourboot" works as a name for the Bendisboot because it implies that it came straight after the Threeboot, adding more confusion to the naming scheme, and because the retroboot is so much of its own entity that it can't be discounted as simply being more of the pre-boot.
But. Is the post-FP retroboot Legion enough of an independent entity to warrant its own number? That's harder to say. It's supposed to be the same as the retroboot and in most regards it is, but it also clearly isn't, especially in the Lost branch. Does that make both of them 4? 4 and 4.5?

I've been rereading the dna legion run recently and it made me be even more upset at bendisboot. Like I hate bringing negativity this way, but it's so bad, you do different "darker" takes on the legion like dna like 5yl and you don't loose its spirit, but when you give every character the same stupid personality and have them all be jon kent supports....it just makes me fucking pissed

Legion of Super-Heroes: Rank the Versions
The Legion of Super-Heroes was my entry point into comic books. My uncle handed me a digest-sized reprint of their early Silver Age appearances, and it has been my strongest comics love since that point. Others come and go but the Legion (and its million characters) will always be my true love in comics.
I saw a thread on reddit the other day asking readers to rank the various versions of the Legion of Super-Heroes, so lets go:
The Original (1958 – 1989): This is an obvious number one. The original LOSH laid the foundations for every version, reboot, and homage to come. All the mainstays – heroes, supporting characters, enemies, locations – debuted in this run. The most classic moments and famous storylines occurred with this version. Easy number one.
The Reboot (1994 – 2004): Another strong version that successfully modernized multiple characters. Lyle Norg’s reboot had to quadruple his fan base. The White Triangle storyline was fantastic. This version had a few questionable choices but overall was very strong.
Five Years Later (1989 -1994) The most controversial version but I love it. Not a perfect run but the characters were awesome. I have never loved Jo Nah as much as I have in this run. Cosmic Boy, Night Girl, Kent Shakespeare, Infectious Lass, and Spider-Girl were other standouts. Roxxas was hilarious but terrifying in his insanity. The Subs were badass, fearless warriors in the resistance. Jacques had something to do besides utter random French words! Tyroc became something other than a walking cliches! Glorith was something other than a devolved blob of goo! Sun Boy’s downfall was painful and horrifying! Love this run!
Threeboot (2004-2009): Mark Waid returned to the Legion for another reboot and threw everything sideways. It was great! Lyle was vastly different than the reboot but still received more character development than his original version. Loved the Cosmic Boy and Brainy rivalry. The addition of Supergirl was unnecessary and the ending was weak but still – many enjoyable moments.
Legion of Super-Heroes (cartoon): Nothing ground-breaking but it was fun.
The Retroboot(2007 -2011). I wanted to love this more than I did. The storylines and characters were bland. It started off strong with the Lightning Saga, the Superman/Legion vs Earth Man’s Justice League, and the Legion of Three Worlds storyline. Even the first year of the title wasn’t bad – Earth Man joins the Legion, Titan is destroyed, etc but it turned into forgettable blandness. Way too many new characters were introduced that weren’t memorabIe. I did love the spotlight on Night Girl and her relationship with Cosmic Boy. Tyroc again was something other than a stereotype. Legion Lost didn’t amount to anything – too bad as it was an interesting concept.
The Imperial Guard (Marvel): A Legion by any other name is…the Imperial Guard. I remember reading their first appearance in a Classic X-men reprint and I immediately tagged the group as a Legion homage. Always fun when they make an appearance. I love that Marvel keeps the group strong even though the team is an homage to a competitor. The Guard won the trial of Jean Grey/the Phoenix. Gladiator defeated the Fantastic Four. Gladiator and the Guard were standouts of Marvel’s 2000 cosmic runs. Love it.
Bendisboot (2019): Speaking of blandness, there is this hot mess. I didn’t even finish the run and that is the only time I can say that about a Legion run. Team books are not Bendis’ forte – his Avengers run should have proven that so I am unsure why DC thought he would be a good choice for a writer of the biggest team in the comic book industry.
There are other versions that I didn’t list simply because they only appeared for an issue/episode so there’s not much to rank. I did enjoy most of the “one-shot” Legions.

OG LoSH villains: Some of the weirdest yet most creative Rogues gallery to be seen. Computo, The Khunds, Mordru The Merciless, The Fatal Five, Grimbor, The League of Super Assassins, Time Trapper, Infinity Man, Universo, Starfinger, The Dark Circle, Sun-Eater, The LoSV & Darkseid.
5YL villains: Somewhat Darker reimaginings of lesser foes like the Dominators (due to their threat increase in Invasion! Event), Glorith, & Roxxas The Butcher but are still relatively great threats before stuff got too confusing.
Reboot Villains: Mostly the greats from OG but with a few twists & reimaginings to them along with DnA's more messed up Galactic level foes like The Blight, The Progenitor (Element Lad when he spent A Billion years going insane in a 2nd Universe but for all intense & purpose WAS dead mentally & spiritually), & even Ra's Al Ghul himself.
Threeboot Villains: Cosmic Boy & Brainiac 5's own egos, The sadistic Praitor Lemnious, The Dominators, & Jim Shooters writing in the last 3rd.
Retroboot Villains: A Racist douchebag that for some reason we needed to make a Legionnaire, My boy Superboy Prime, Shit villain Harvest, & The New 52 completely screwing everything up.
Fourboot Villains: Crab people, Bad parents, & Loser-extraordinaire Rogol Zaal.

LoSH Week 2019 - Day 6 - Scene Rewrite
Decided to do that one scene from Secret Origins from Retroboot (#5)where Lyle & Querl talk, cause my mood is still there.
Lyle is given no time to settle into the Legion, but he supposes none of them has. Still, he thinks he should be able to at least perform well at his original job of guarding Brande, but the man shoos him away, insisting that he go and ‘chase ghost assassins’. He wants to retort, but he sees a small bug crawl under Brande’s collar. Well, if Chameleon Boy is going to go anyway then Lyle isn’t going to push it.
He doesn’t like feeling idle, knowing that the rest of the Legionnaires are defending the fleet at this very moment. If Brande doesn’t need him right now, he should be out there with them. Instead, he is here alone, put on standby as it were.
“Thought I’d get more respect as a legionnaire…guess not…”
“Pass me the temporal dynometer since you’re here, Norg…”
Not so alone, it turns out.
He almost forgets that the Coluan is still here, having wandered into the room absentmindedly. Lyle glances at the broken temporal structure that Dox constructed. The ‘time bubble’ as he calls it is almost completely shattered; the remaining glass is fractured. Dox doesn’t seem as bothered as he was when the time bubble came back, already trying to pinpoint a solution to what went wrong.
Dox is clearly too occupied to even turn around and look at Lyle when making the request.
It doesn’t help that Lyle is already in a slightly soured mood, but he picks the temporal dynometer up anyway.
“Assuming you know what…” Dox’s tone is already edging towards condescending, when he looks up finally noticing that Lyle is stood right in front of him now. “Oh…” Dox reaches out, and Lyle places the apparatus firmly into his hand. “You do.”
Dox is looking up at him, expression remaining neutral. Close to neutral, at least, because Lyle can almost hear Dox’s brain whirring behind those green eyes. Whatever he’s thinking, Lyle’s sure it won’t sit well with him.
“Obviously,” he says, coolly, turning to leave; he’s had enough of being underestimated for one day. “And you should watch that bubble’s power consumption.”
He looks back over his shoulder at Dox, who blinks quickly. For some reason, at this very moment Lyle can’t take his eyes of the stray locks sticking out of Dox’s otherwise perfectly combed back hair.
Lyle spots the corner of Dox’s mouth twitch upwards for a brief instant. It’s as if he wants to say something to Lyle, but a second later he is looking down, eyes narrowed and talking to himself.
There’s a smile on his own face as he leaves the room, amused that Dox has seemed to distract himself. As much as he doesn’t like that Dox disregarded him, he can’t help but think that he wants to have another try at a conversation with him at some point. Perhaps on another day, when Lyle is in a better mood. He thinks that Dox will definitely be someone interesting to work with. Who knows? Maybe they’ll even end up as friends.
A few minutes later, he hears a shout of ‘Phantom Girl!’ down the corridor and his smile widens, knowing that Dox must have figured something out. Maybe even because of what Lyle said.
He hopes so.
(It’s when Phantom Girl gives an off-handed mention later on that she thinks ‘the Dox boy’ is cute, that he realises he thinks so too and that may be another reason why he wants to talk to Dox again.)

As much as I miss them I'm still kinda glad the Reboot Legion got to have that ending. So many comics go on forever and lose their entire meaning and identity along the way, and they were spared that faith. And unlike the retroboot Legion they actually got to go out as heroes, bright and courageous.

Saw on Reddit people ranking each version of the legion so I wanted to give it a go!
Original Silver Age- It's the silver age, it's the origin to all the concepts and characters but it's too charming and dumb to ever critique. Harmless fun with comic moments that read like elaborate shit posts.
70's era- Actually not a big fan of this era but I appreciate what it builds on for later, it's actually riddle with a lot of strange retcons (like Ayla being Garth and Mekt's little sister and them being twins??), very melodramatic moments for characters being dicks, hitting their girlfriends, and angst out, TYROC. Also not a big fan of the outfits designs making everyone look like eye candy and I do mean EVERYONE. You think that would be a positive but alot of the outfits tell you nothing of their characters abilities, their only purpose is to show the reader skin. I did like it for the creation of Dawnstar and Wildfire and this is the run where RJ gets a lot more focus being their financial backer. It gets way better when Paul and Giffen take over, leading into...
Bronze age Legion- This is LoSH at it's best and most Adult. The angst up teenagers have grown up and now feel like an organized functioning team. They all feel like friends with their own families and histories. Levitz proved that writing a large cast equally for a book is possible by sectioning a bunch of characters in their own little storylines until they all come together for when the real shit behind it all happens. Re-reading this era is purely comfy.
FYL- Hot take: I don't hate FYL. I will agree it has issues especially regarding it's certain retcons but I really do believe it told decent enough stories to not be the worst for me. It really gets the legionnaires to their core, albeit it has to make everyone wash outs and depressed to do so but if you look at the whole run as a character study for everyone. It's pretty good. It's so self contained you can't really bring yourself to hate it. Like it's basically what if Watchmen with LoSH.
Retroboot- This is technically still in the OG continuity and I rather get it out of the way now. It starts out pretty great with "Superman and the Legion of Superheroes" and the "Lightning Saga" being their best introductions especially for newbies, but the main book they did get... Kinda was boring as hell? I didn't think it was terrible, just that whenever it tried to introduce cool things it just drops plotlines and never explores them any further. Characters are faithful enough to the originals tho Garth wasn't ever really a hot head and Tasmia would never sleep with ethnic cleanser. Also r.i.p RJ, damn. It was going pretty fine until the new 52 was cancelled , forcing Querl to accidentally destroy the entire UP and forcing the legion to dispense "permanently". So yeah, pretty disappointing.
PZH "Reboot"- This is probably my real favorite version because it takes all the strengths I said about the Bronze age and mixes it with the imagination of the silver age. Objectively better designs to all other versions, and it's finally really incorporated having aliens members and more humans of color into the team. It's a reboot sure but it's extremely faithful to what came before, some would criticize TOO faithfully. But I don't care. It has like 100 issues so it did something right. Ends kinda poorly tho and we don't know if this version ever found their original universe yet.
Cartoon- Actually my first introduction to the team. It's sorta nothing to write home about, it's just a fun show. Though if it aired today it would get a ton of more fans given that its version of Querl is canon a super-simp. But aren't we all?
Threeboot- this might be the black sheep of all Legions. It's well written with designs that are fairly good if you're a fan of everything matrix. The premise is REALLY interesting and possibly ahead of it's time with adults being overprotective of themselves and their children to hardly allow them to be outside and interact with other people that aren't on another screen. So what went wrong? No cool villains, gets bogged down by infighting team politics, and only select members that Waid probably likes the most gets any character development. So mostly Rokk, Querl, Nura and maybe the Ranzz twins. So yeah, a strong start but it couldn't keep its momentum. It did have a soft boot under Jim Shooter, nothing to really say about it aside from Brainy having sex with a ghost. No comment.
Bendis era- This brings out the raging "fanboy" in me and I rather not feel like that anymore. What can be said that hasn't already been said? 12 issues of f-all happening.
Overall this team has been around for a long time and I hope one day to see them have another run again, preferably back to their former glory but not afraid to introduce new concepts to build upon itself.

LOSH APPRECIATION WEEK 2019 - Headcanons
*Sigh* I expect this isn’t gonna get a lot of reblogs but whatever.
This is mainly Lightning Lad centric with a few WG ideas.
Tumblr media
Lightning Lad and Arsenal Are Friends
Art by Phil Jimenez
Despite that Roy and Garth have never really interacted with each other in a published story, I’ve long since believed the two have the potential to be friends because they have a lot in common.
They’re both redheads, both dads, both have lost an arm at some point, have dealt with anger issues, and people underestimate them as the weakest of their respective groups (the Fab Five, the Founders)
Tumblr media
Art by Levy Rasputin
In my main story ideas, the Legionnaires became involved with Roy dealing with Lian being brought back to life and their memories of the real DCU restored. The Legion was forced to witness Cheshire almost killing Roy and Lian, and offered the Harpers a space to recover in the 31st Century as they further tried to determine what was going on in the universe because of Doctor Manhattan’s damage to the timeline.
Roy and Garth just sort of clicked since the Harpers spent a lot of time living on the Ranzz Family’s farm on Winath. Lian even calls Garth “Uncle Sparkhead” since she already HAS an Uncle Garth (Tempest/Uncle Gillhead). Garth calls Lian “Tiger.”
The Legionnaires are super protective of Roy, Lian, and Lian’s baby brother Tommy. Lian’s taught moves by Shadow Lass and Night Girl, and Roy’s slept with a couple of the Legionnaires.
Roy and Garth are sort of the Batman and Superman of my DC Trinity. The WW’s an OC.

Saturn Queen And Dark Angel Are Allies/Lovers
Art by nanihoo
I mentioned before my love of this version of Eve because she’s a survivor, so I paired her up with another Multiverse survivor, Dark Angel.
The two of them have been acting behind the scenes of the DCU, operating outside of time and space which spared them from Manhattan’s revisions. They’ve been responsible for many of the retcons in the DCU as well as some of the more tragic stories. They made Superboy into a clone of Superman and Lex Luthor. They’re the reason why Mia Dearden left Lian Harper by herself which led to Lian’s death when Star City was destroyed. They brought Jason Todd back to life. They made everyone forget about Mae Kent and Linda Danvers. Why? Because they see it as a game for their enjoyment. They’ve no need for money or ruling the world. They have all the time in the world.
Tumblr media
Art by @empty-b
After Manhattan altered the DCU and replaced numerous heroes and villains with his shoddy knock offs, D.A. and Eve are the ones who pulled them from limbo and have been keeping them in stasis until Manhattan’s been dealt with. They’re the reason why the real Legion’s been missing since the New 52 began, but their endgame is something far worse beyond inflicting psychological torture.
They later establish a new version of Villainy Incorporated, recruiting dozens of villainesses from all throughout the Multiverse as part of their final game. They are, surprisingly, decent bosses to work for as they rely more on getting these women to trust them instead of brainwashing or threatening them.
Truthfully their behavior takes inspiration from Bernkastel and Lambdadelta of the Umineko series.
Kinetix Hates White Witch
After Zoe’s soul is freed from within Mysa when Mordru’s spirit is removed, she develops an unforgiving hatred for the White Witch for not doing anything to help her. Zoe claims Mysa knew Zoe was inside her and suffering all this time, but Mysa was more concerned with quieting Mordru (which, in the process, muted Zoe’s cries for help).
As a result, when Zoe is brought back to life and freed, she makes it clear she wants nothing to do with Mysa and has threatened to kill her if Mysa ever speaks to her again.
Considering Zoe already had issues with her universe’s version of Mysa, those didn’t help.
Mysa is very remorseful for how she handled this.

Chubby Lightning Lad

OKAY YES I’M GETTING TO THIS ONE
Tumblr media
Art by Levy Rasputin
I frequently, if not always, commission Garth with a round body type instead of the muscular build he has in the comics. And it’s not just one version of him. As an asexual/autochorissexual/whatever sexual this is my thing, and I wish there was more body diversity in the comics. Anyway...
Tumblr media
Art by Tim Fish
For Pre-Crisis/Retroboot Garth I tend to imagine he gained some weight after all the shit settled and he and Imra moved back to Winath. All of the Legionnaires lost a considerable deal of weight when they were on the run because of the JLE (you can see in Gary Frank’s artwork how malnourished they appear).
Tumblr media
Art by lotusmelon
Alongside Garth’s anger problem calming down and rescuing the boys (Graym and Garridan) after they were kidnapped, Garth felt guilty about the way he treated Imra. Looking back on how his family was denied the basic comforts of a roof over their heads, beds to sleep in, and access to food, he started to experiment with cooking and put himself in charge of meal planning as a way to show he cares. He worries about their health and is making sure Imra and the kids are eating properly.
As a result he put on a few pounds while trying out different recipes and because he’s simply not taking food for granted anymore.
Coupled with all the work he has to do on the farm and you’ve got yourself a big beautiful farm boy.
I’ve had other ideas for two other versions of Garth, mainly Threeboot!Garth and Cartoon!Garth
Tumblr media
Art by lotusmelon
Threeboot!Garth’s a stress eater, which started as a result of him developing anxiety over leading the Legion and his nasty break-up with Saturn Girl. As a result he got a little chubby since he has to spend most of his time seated at Legion HQ overseeing everything.
Eventually Garth decided he needed a vacation in order to relax and figured at one point “Screw it.” If he doesn’t have a girlfriend and has to deal with handling all the Legion’s affairs, he might as well eat and came back from vacation heavier than when he left. Once he stopped worrying about this he proved to be more effective as leader.
Tumblr media
Art by @sewerbetta
Cartoon!Garth I just prefer as heavyset because it bothers how all the male Legionnaires have such narrow waists but broad shoulders. And really I think Garth looks good with some padding.
Tumblr media
Art by Kris Smith
No one really has a problem with it except for Brainy, who keeps complaining about having to update Garth’s robotic arm to match his build. Unfortunately, Brainy’s criticisms became increasingly nastier to the point of body shaming and Garth begins to feel legitimately upset by all this since he didn’t have a problem with his body.
The other Legionnaires aren’t happy with Brainy’s attitude as well. Bouncing Boy in particular is peeved because he finds out Brainy never said anything about HIS weight because “It served a purpose.”
Tumblr media
Art by @peskyshortcake
Imra especially enjoys having a boyfriend with curves.

Bought the #legionlost hc, because I liked the first issue and I’ve always wanted to get into the #legionofsuperheroes, and after failing with ALL of the Retroboot, I ended up liking the Reboot stuff I’ve read (also, can’t wait for next week’s #legionnaires tpb!), and this is apparently not only some of the best Reboot stuff, but some of the best Legion stuff in general. Plus, I liked DnA’s Cosmic Marvel stuff, and Coipek has nice arr, even if hos stuff is a lot messier here. So hey, creators I actually like 😊
Oh, and it was cheap, though the pages are kinda thick, like they may have been wet or something? Or maybe it's just weird paper stock, like a firmer version of the stuff used in the Damian: Son of Batman hardcover? I had this happen once with one of the Legion archives, so... Idno. Need to ask around about that, just in case
Also, it came with a cute little bookmark inside, which may or may not have been intentional, but is cute regardless 😊
