K so apparently some people on Twitter got upset that people saw Future Growth as romantic.

Here's the thing: an analysis of both Espio and Silver's characters and their interactions will tell you why people don't view it as platonic and see it romantic instead.

I'm going to be specifically discussing IDW and game canon here, as the two are intertwined (with the games up to Forces being canon to the IDW comics).

I did multiple analyses on these two goofballs on an old blog. Espio is NEVER that open. He's only ever opened up to Silver, at least to the extent he did in Future Growth.

It's also worth mentioning how in tune with Silver's emotions Espio is compared to everyone else.

Literally how the hell is Espio the only one who noticed something was off about Silver’s behavior and mood

You'd think with how often Silver and Sonic cross paths Sonic would take notice of Silver's emotional state, I mean, look at his expression in the second panel. Nobody but Espio noticed something was off about Silver. As far as we know, Espio doesn't really spend a ton of time around Silver, and he definitely isn't around him as much as Sonic or Amy.

It's ALSO worth noting that Espilver originated from Sonic Rivals 2. Espio didn't hesitate to help Silver. He will hesitate if he's weary of one of Vector's plans. And even if you just look at how Espio behaved at the end of Sonic Rivals 2, he is never nervous. But explaining what Silver was doing? He just ignores Vector after a certain point.

The reason Future Growth came off as romantic to people is because it's the first time Espio is seen really opening up, and it's to Silver. Not Vector, who (along with Charmy) he's closest to. Silver.

Also, Silver (from my memory) hasn't hugged anyone besides Espio, and Espio would probably stab anyone else who tries to hug him (although to be fair Silver did catch him off guard lol. Still, Espio was messing with a kunai literally right before that and probably could’ve stabbed him if he wanted to).

Even outside of that, with their past interactions, of course it's not gonna be viewed as platonic. He and Espio were good friends and had built up a pretty good relationship in Rivals 2.

Basically, if you're like "why are people viewing this as romantic????" you should go back and look at how they’ve interacted in the past. How Espio acts when Vector asks him about Silver at the end of Sonic Rivals 2 comes off as a parent prying you for information on a crush (and I do think this is exactly what that was given the fact that Espio could’ve literally just explained Silver’s motives and Vector probably would’ve accepted it lol). How they interact prior to Future Growth can come off as romantic or a crush. Hell, this angsty wattpad lookin thing exists.

For context, here’s the full cover that’s from:

They never went on a mission together in the Zombot Arc, which is where that image comes from. However, Silver did work with Whisper. Why is this worth bringing up? Espio worked alone, Cream and Gemerl worked together, Rouge and Metal Sonic were just there, Tails and Amy worked together, and Knuckles stayed on Angel Island to watch the Master Emerald. Not to mention how much the Espio and Silver thing looks like a fucking Wattpad cover compared to the other ones??? Anyway, it’d make more sense for Espio to be the lone one and Whisper to be on the same panel(?) as Silver, but they didn’t do that.

I don’t think any of what has been done with Espio and Silver was done just to show that they’re friends. It genuinely feels like there are subtle hints at something more between these two, even down to the (really subtle??) implication that Silver’s gonna stay in the present and chill with Team Chaotix my explanation for which you can find here).

Without context, yeah, I can completely understand why you might question why people see Future Growth as romantic. But when you look at how they act with each other prior to that, it does start to make sense.

The IDW angsty Wattpad fanfiction cover is weird. At that point in the comics, Espio and Silver hadn’t even interacted much, and since they’d never gone on a mission together as a pair, it doesn’t make sense why they’d be paired off like that.

Espio’s behavior at the end of Sonic Rivals 2 is weird. He never tiptoes around questions that should be easy to answer like that.

Espio opening up to Silver specifically, while not necessarily weird, is quite telling.

I’m not saying Espilver is canon. However I am saying there’s like zero explanation for why they’re always paired together if Blaze isn’t around (in which case Silver is paired with Blaze instead of Espio. I view that as different because I think Blaze views Silver more as a little brother than anything, and they’ve also spent more time together visibly compared to Espio and Silver).

So basically, if you think it’s weird that people view Future Growth as romantic, there are more hints at Espio and Silver liking each other romantically than you think.

*i just have such a strong mental image of how i would use this song as a cold open/intro if katc was a tv series and i DESPERATELY want to make an MV as if it were. but just imagine syb running through the whitetails, trying to shake her tail of Chosen and Judges, meanwhile jacob is tracking her through the scope of his sniper rifle and the second syb loses her tail and takes a breath, jacob has her lined up in the crosshairs. the screen goes dark with the sound of gunfire and as the song trails off, the title card "kneeling at the crossroads" in serif font fades in.

Grian in general:

Mask = Pretty much, I saw grian's skin's eyes, and i was like "ok how do i keep these but make them look good" then i realized "oh my god watcher masks". So, most watchers' masks are the 'typical' watcher mask,, you prob know the one, but grian's, being the only 'mortalborn'(only one not born a watcher, and rather earning it as a title), and his own rebellion against the watchers, is different. it has his cod lookin eyes there. under the mask, who knows. maybe hes just a Dude™, maybe he's a bird, maybe hes an abomination.

Wings = Kestrel wings! As much as I adore the parrot hcs, and similar, im a tad disappointed no ones capitalized on kestrel grian. they're small, reddish, predatory birds!

Look at them.

The heart on the back is a reference to hardcore hearts, you know the ones. because only three lives and all,etc.

His armor is just a custom (and unlikely) design because i think its cool and people are cowards for not giving him wing armor.

He has the poncho because its a common desertduo design, and he's wearing a red tank top underneath. Don't got much else.

LL!Grian Specifics:

His trademark red sweater, and he has the goggles because of the southlands. aha!

I imagine his clothes got torn quite a bit, and he had to sew them a decent bit.

DL! Grian Specifics:

He has the gradient because A. its a mix of his and scar's colors, because soulmates, and B. because of the cake

Scar:

Yep, you're not seeing things, he is getting more scars as the next seasons happen. The first scar he gains is over one of his eyes, and its a heavily stylized bird footprint. Because Grian killed him and all. Second scar he gets, its an arrow wound, because he lost his last life to an arrow from ren.

I like to think he loses color each death. I just forgot that on DL, lol.

he lost a shoe, because he would. and the other notes are on the image lol.

the half hearts on his coat are built to match with grian :D. don't got much else.

"hey moth why are his eyes purple??" well! I have an answer for you! in my hc, soulmates get matching eyes! Each character has their own shade of the life count color, and it blends with their soulmate's. Grian, though, is an exception to that rule. Because he's a watcher pretty much indulging in the games, he doesn't die, die. he just kinda... taps out. but because he's a watcher, he doesn't lose lives, and doesn't change his eye color. scar's eyes are only one shade of green because grian's still trying to hide the whole watcher thing. as desertduo gets closer to death, he stops trying to hide it, and the color creeps into scar's eyes. hence the purple.

Fic & Music

So @mitch-pell asked people to share at least 5 songs they’ve either created a work from, plan to create a work from, or hope to create a work from. Consider yourself tagged if you’d like to play!

Well, first of all, I have written a ton of stories that have been inspired by some piece of music or other - sometimes the inspiration has come from a line or a couple of words, at other times a song has helped me find the mood I was looking for, or given me the inspiration for a title. So here’s but a sample, because otherwise we’d be here forever...

The Andorian Incident

This is one of my very first fics, in the Star Trek:Voyager fandom, and my first attempt to write capital-P Plot - specifically, a B-grade, Western-infused adventure frolic. I'd become intrigued by Joan Baez’ cover of Dylan’s ballad, “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts” and its odd assortment of characters. And so I went about constructing a plot that didn’t follow that of the song, but drew on elements of it (”Lily was a princess...”; “Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads;” “Rosemary... was lookin' to do just one good deed before she died”, that sort of thing). I listened to the song for the several weeks it took me to construct and write the thing; it still conjures up the story when it pops up on my playlist.

Locust Wind

This was going to be the sequel to one of my most popular fics, “Second Mouse”, an Avengers/007 crossover. I’d envisioned it as a totally hoaky caper thing (working title: “The Curse of the Elephant Star”), but this was just post-Captain America: Winter Soldier and I just couldn’t find the frivolous mood I needed. I was driving home from work when U-2′s “Rattle and Hum” came up on my iPod, with that line: “On the Locust Wind comes a rattle and hum...” And boom, everything changed. By the time I got home, I knew I had my title, a link to the emergence of Hydra from TWS like locusts about to devour the world, and most importantly, an underlying mood - of dread, and impending doom. I tossed what I’d already written (except for a couple of paragraphs I managed to repurpose, and started to write...

Rain on the Scarecrow

In some fannish exchange or other @bettybackintheday had suggested that John Mellencamp wrote “Clint-ish” music, and I agreed. Then we started to get the first teasers for Age of Ultron, and that mysterious farm was at the centre of everyone’s speculation. So based on the pretty dark and elegiac mood of “Rain on the Scarecrow”, I concocted my own ideas of what it might mean. Of course none of that came to pass - but I still maintain we’d have been better off if Marvel had used my version... :P

Diamonds and Rust

Another Joan Baez song, and something i KNEW would be a title for a fic some day! I love that image, but also how can you listen to these lines and NOT think of comics!Clint Barton and comics!Kate Bishop:

Well, how could I listen to Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” screeching through Thor: Ragnarok, see that ship of Asgardians looking for a new home, and *not* think of what would happen to them if they were to land in the US under Trump’s immigration policies? Exactly. This is that story.

70. Are you subscribed to any writers on AO3?

not really, no! if i were to subscribe, id probably only subscribe to my friends, and i generally trust theyre going to send me their fic so i can read it the way i send all my fic to my friends, lmao. when i want to 'subscribe' to an author, i usually just follow them on social media

72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

a professor at college recently told me that my writing "reads like [i] care about every sentence" and it almost made me cry. cuz like, man, i do! i really do.

74. Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love?

glances at my third life fic. uh.

actually tho, i think my fic generally does pretty well? for example, my tma fic usually did pretty good, esp since tma was a rlly popular fandom when i was posting it and i was writing angst/tragedy, which isnt necessarily what ppl want to read in an already-tragic fandom. my kudos:hits ratio tends to be pretty decent on all my work, so when i set aside my unending vanity, i tend to be pretty satisfied w my numbers

that said... i think when it came out i wanted "Anchor" to have more attention, as well as "as long as you can remember." lookin at my stats now, "if it rhymes, it's true, but i hate poetry" has the most kudos and yet second-least comments of my tma oneshots, which. ill truly never understand ao3 audience engagement

76. How do you deal with writing pressure, whether internal or external?

writing pressure... im not sure i have a lot of that? if anything, there's not enough pressure on myself to actually write. its pretty hard to sit down and put my feet to the fire and do it, and i dont yet have a way to manage that

unless, of course, you mean the internal critic. thats also a bit difficult, but the fact i LOVE editing makes it easier. writing is fun and all, but you know whats more fun? taking a decent scene or sentence and making it wonderful

78. What motivates you during the writing process?

usually i write with one specific goal, scene, vibe, or point in mind and actualizing that motivates me. that might be "i have a clear mental image in my head and i want to see it happen" or it might be "i would love to do an examination of this aspect of that character/plot thing" or simply just "hey isnt this fucked up"

achieving that is basically my main drive

Speaking of in other waters- The bioluminescence on Talas' tail kinda reminds me of the veils, is that intentional? :0

OH MY GOSH YES!!! IT ABSOLUTELY IS TY FOR NOTICING U ARE THE FIRST

it used to be super different at first bc I didnt know what direction I wanted to take for his tail lights so I experimented a lil

The first version of it that stuck for a lil while was like this!! three rows of... lines? dots? squiggles? I didnt have a very clear view of it in my head.

Then post IOW, and once I was actually moving talas' design more and more towards water themes, I drew some fanart of the shimmer veils (note: drew this before lookin at the art pdf so this is my interpretation of them) that got me thinking like hm. They ARE my fave creature from the game, and they have some fun patterns. And I also thought of some comb jellies and other bioluminescent animals that have that kind of squiggly pattern on them, as opposed to straight lines for counterlighting. Cause I wanted his tail to look both like something distinctly from the abyss, but also without looking super natural at second glance, and I thought this had the vibe I wanted (I was correct) ((older pic but still up to date))

I also took some inspiration from the bacterial mats in general in the game since they all have minimalist symbols that include a lot of circles/bubbles within one another. (these kinds of symbols specifically! And his current ref for comparison. Hope it's got at least the vibe)

It was definitely the veils that set the wheels in my mind in motion for it though

as a bonus fun thing i never shared, at some point i recolored volite!talas with one of the IOW palettes for comfort. This was for an au that never took off x)

would have loved to do something wackier w the design and do some specbio to go with it but I was extremely head empty at the time so i settled for a recolor

v3′s art is comically terrible for a professionally distributed game in a series: a compilation

in this not-essay I will list all of the mistakes and problems I have spotted in v3′s art. don’t worry, it’s entirely for fun and I’m doing this on a whim, so please feel free to not take this seriously but also it’s hilarious and embarrassing how ridiculous this is like what happened did they speedrun the whole production or what

see, there are some things you can take as meta like “they made it bad on purpose to allude to the downfall of tv shows that have been on air for much too long” but I have a very strong feeling this is not the case due to the nature of some of these errors

disclaimer, the more I study this art, the more I fear that the artists were underpaid and underslept, so if this is in fact the case, I am so sorry to all of them but also I’m going to make fun of the art anyway

anyway let’s get started!

if you study this image for longer than 5 seconds, you will see that kaede is the only one fully shaded and keebo is literally just his normal sprite pasted into the image. every other character is just an ordinary ref, hence most of them facing the exact same direction with neutral expressions on their faces. it looks like a bad edit, and is probably one of the worst pieces of art in the game. it kind of gets better from here on, but my roasting will not.

with that out of the way, here’s the problem that officially bothers me the most and clarifies my viewpoint of “this is not meta and an actual lack of company communication”

this freaking cg, which seems normal at a glance, but some wiseass was like “oh, kaede is a girl, so obviously she’s going to be shorter than the Male Protagonist™” ah, that’s funny. because if you look at the character bios, kaede is, in fact, one inch taller than shuichi and not like 6 inches shorter as she is shown here.

also shuichi’s shoulder is disproportionate and horrendous and he looks vaguely like a jojo character, but I wasn’t even thinking about that until right now.

thanks guys, 50% of the fandom who has never bothered to check these bios thinks that kaede is like 5′3 (did the developers really put so little thought into her to the point where drawing her correctly in the game didn’t even matter??)

also I would like to point out that, even though this isn’t related to the art itself, yes, a character kaede’s size being only 117 lbs is unfeasible, but this applies to literally every character in danganronpa ever and it’s not new news that it’s unrealistic

update: someone in the tags informed me that in versions of the game that use centimeters, like the japanese version, kaede is actually shorter than shuichi, which just adds another thing to the list of weird decisions the localization team made for no reason. that said, after confirming this, kaede is 167 cm in the original, while shuichi is 171 cm, which are approximately 5′6 and 5′7 respectively, but one inch is still nowhere near as drastic as it is depicted above. (in spite of this, I would rather depict kaede as slightly taller, so I’m probably going to keep doing that.)

speaking of which, can we talk about how shady the perspective is in this elevator pic? look at shuichi and kokichi in comparison to kaede. kokichi, who is canonically 7 inches (edit: or 5, if you’re loyal to the original) shorter than kaede, looks taller than kaede. he’s growing too. what steroids are these gays taking

running into the room, electric boogaloo: I don’t think tsumugi is supposed to be the same height as kokichi

I love how kaito’s head looks kind of like it was pasted onto his body. why is he the same size as shuichi? shouldn’t he be high school bully size or something? his torso is teensy

I also love how this cg looks like they literally took pictures of trees and pasted them into the background, especially on the left. the shadows are so weird, especially closer to the ceiling, it’s difficult for me to believe they didn’t do exactly that.

puberty update: kokichi is now taller than shuichi in spite of shuichi never missing leg day. what crimes will he commit

I have to mention it, guys. this has to be one of the worst danganronpa cgs. kokichi’s facial proportions look atrocious. look at the way his face sticks out like his jaw is in the wrong place. his scarf is a pasted texture. that’s it. this moment was so iconic but the cg just looks so… so… off. like something is terribly wrong, but you can’t put your finger on it.

you know what? let’s get into that ‘pasted texture’ thing.

let’s imagine you’re an artist working on a professional game. you’re assigned to draw cgs of kokichi ouma, who has a checkered scarf from hell. sure, it will be terrible to draw, but you only have to draw it once at a time! plus, perspective is pretty important, right? can you be bothered? nah, actually. let’s just copy paste a checkered pattern into the cg, because I’m sure nobody will notice. it’ll blend right in with the other cgs that someone actually put effort into drawing his scarf in, right?

no. the answer is no and I very much noticed. this genuinely looks terrible and I would understand taking a shortcut like that in fanart or even an indie game but this is a full price pc and console distributed game

(an addition: look at kokichi’s TINY HANDS in that last one)

meanwhile, they straight up forgot to color in kokichi’s scarf in this cg.

dude. I forgot about whatever the hell this cg was. anyway look at keebo please just look at him

lovin kaito’s baby arms

real talk, maybe you could argue that he’s missing muscle because he’s deathly sick, but most of his cgs don’t line up with this, and his arms just look disproportionate to his torso size (granted this is a consistent problem across all danganronpa games and a lot of characters have this weird problem, like hajime, but also kaito is bigger than hajime so I kind of have higher expectations of him) maybe it’s his stupid goatee and the way he reminds me of yasuhiro?? it creates this illusion that he’s older than he is and so I keep expecting him to look more like an adult

oh, also rantaro is missing some of his accessories in that video he made–you know the one–but I don’t wanna go back and screenshot it

also you may have noticed that I’m skipping all of the monokub cgs because I literally do not care about them and I’m not even bothering to check and see if they have artistic mistakes in them

so, that done, the sprites are also pretty terrible at times. they’re not as interesting to go through, however, and downloading the full sprite sets for every character and studying every single one of them will drive me insane, so I’ll just sum some of the ones I noticed up. I made things for kaede and shuichi before deciding I wasn’t going to get into it, so here are these.

that said, other mistakes include kokichi missing his purple highlights in all of the sprites encompassing a specific pose, stray pixels all over the place on everyone, and everyone also has heavily inconsistent shading, but literally all I think about is how pregame shuichi is unshaded and two of kaede’s pregame sprites have glaring outfit change mistakes in them

anyway, thank you for taking the time to read my ridiculous ramble. in all seriousness, there’s this looming presence of some lack of communication in the development team, like with all the art and design inconsistencies, pieces and sprites that look rushed, stray pixels, and missing basic proportional stuff. these are the kinds of things that you supposedly have to pretty much have in the bag in order to get jobs in professional businesses, so it’s really weird to me that this game suffers from so many of these problems. it’s like they tried to make the art so much more crisp than the other games, but it fell on its face as they realized it was going to take longer to draw everything and they started to rush. it’s weird, because the coloring itself looks normal–it’s just sloppily drawn, and the proportions are a mess once put into the context of perspective. many of the cgs look like they were drawn by different people, and I’m still not over the fact that half of kokichi’s cgs have his scarf pasted in as a texture.

the moral of the story is that if you’re selling a game at full price that also happens to be in a series that has had 3 very good games in it already the stakes should probably be higher than this. v3 has been out for more than 3 years and it’s still $40 (did it cost more than that before? I sure hope not), and the overarching quality of the game is just not as high as the other games. I’m not saying that the other games don’t have any problems with their art at all, they’re just not as glaringly obvious and every artistic choice in those games feels intentional.

regardless, I had a blast roasting the art at 2am, so maybe you got a kick out of all this chaos.

GAH, i am unwell, but -

in my current rewatch of only spn episodes that focus on reapers/death, I have unfortunately Come to a Notion, and I am going to share it with you because once again Nobody Asked.

Yes, this is about how we Can Still Win, even after 15x20.

[other than of course reading my post-15x20 WIP, Angels Don’t Fear the Reaper, the first chapter of which can be found on AO3 here]

so this is an extension of the theory that 15x20 is not actually heaven (because of beers and lighting), and my particular addition to the “Dean is not yet in heaven in 15x20″ lore is -

The Bobby that greets Dean in 15x20 is not Bobby - he is actually Dean’s reaper.

for the love of Chuck I truly cannot watch a single episode of spn like a normal person. Put your clown nose on, buddies, and come bounce around the padded walls with me - after the cut!

Okay. First, it’s important to note that SPN has a history of intentionally using lighting/camera work as part of the story, specifically in grounding location for the viewer, for example, to convey when characters are in an alternate universe (Purgatory, Apocalypse World, The Bad Place) or experiencing an alternate/altered reality such as a djinn dream - or, for purposes of this Essay - the limbo in between life and death whilst dying.

That space is explored a few times in the show, but the first detailed expose occurs in 7x10: Death’s Door with Bobby, as he races through his memories trying to escape his own reaper -

This lighting/blurred camera work appears again in 9x01, when Sam is dying, and is mentally here:

where they have the audacity to make the “part of Sam’s mind that is ready to accept death” appear as Bobby.

Bobby is literally used in the narrative to lead Sam towards Death, convincing Sam to accept dying. Who usually has that job in SPN? Reapers.

***and remember, from 2x01: In My Time of Dying, that reapers can change their form as well as a soul’s perception of surroundings -

!DEAN You know, you read the most interesting things. For example, did you know that reapers can alter human perception? I sure didn't. Basically they can make themselves appear however they want. Like, say, uh, a pretty girl. You are much prettier than the last reaper I met.

TESSA/REAPER I was wondering when you would figure it out.

!DEAN

I should have known. That whole "accepting fate" rap of yours is far too laid back for a dead chick. But the mother, and the body, I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Compare this to Bobby’s dialogue with Sam in 9x01:

SAM

I want to fight. I do. But I just feel like...

BOBBY

Like you got nothing to swing at? Like you're punching at shadows? You got to let go of fightin' and scratchin' and lookin' for loopholes, 'cause that ain't happenin'.

SAM

Just die? All the good you've done, all the people you've saved, all the sacrifices you've made? You've saved the world, son. How many people can say that? ***what’s interesting is that this is very out of character for Bobby, and 9x01 actually reminds us of that in a prior scene ->

BOBBY

Hey, first of all, you didn't rescue jack, half-wit. Sam did. Second of all, Sam, you're in a coma. Now, suck as that may, sometimes that's just the way things go.

DEAN

What are you talking about? There's always a way. You taught us that.

***this dialogue also contains a very specific callback to 8x19: Taxi Driver, where Bobby has this to say to Sam about accepting the finality of things-

BOBBY

Must have been hell on you not being able to get him out all that time. You did try?

SAM

Look, Bobby, Dean and I had an agreement, okay?

BOBBY I know that agreement. I taught you that agreement. That's a non-agreement. I get the feeling a lot must have happened while I was gone.

***keeping all of this in mind, let’s move on to 15x20: Carry On (sorry)-

and the first person Dean sees in ‘Heaven’ is. . . Bobby

[hmm; that outfit looks familiar]

It also drives me crazy that Bobby is just sitting here, relaxing on a rocking chair

since this was Bobby’s primary concern before heading to heaven in 8x19 after he was rescued from actual hell -

BOBBY

But if they give me a rocking chair up there, I'm raising hell.

Consider Also the final scene in 10x17: Inside Man, after Bobby leaves his boring ass Chuck Heaven house to help Sam and Cas break Metatron out - and Bobby tells Sam “it's the happiest I've been in forever” after he assists him and Cas in Chaotic Causing of Problems.

so, yeah - Bobby in a rocking chair as his perfect heaven is kind of. . .again, out of character.

Also I can’t ever discuss 10x17 without including this -

Anyway, back to the Derogatory 15x20 - after Dean chats with “Bobby,” it’s time to drive around In The Car.

An interesting irl addition to all of this is that Jarpad is on record claiming that 15x20 is his favorite episode of spn, and his second favorite is - 8x23: Sacrifice. You know, the one where Sam dies. The one immediately preceding 9x01.

Hello, and of course it's okay! I'll give you my rando thoughts below, and it exceeded my expectations ONLY because I heard that a lot of the crowd vibes in the early part of the tour were quote rancid, and yeah, having lurked, HARD AGREE, but I saw the final show, didn't have on my best clothes, and thought it was pretty damned great! Rando thoughts under the cut:

Sunday night capped off a rollercoaster birthday weekend in the best kind of way, so it's gonna be aimh for that reason ALONE.

I went with my best friend, who is always endlessly amused/confused by my descriptions of fandom dynamics on EVERY FUCKING LEVEL (she knows Louis from when I made her watch XFUK and from every 1D song video ever and from this album, period)...I could give you her reactions to things, but those are hot real takes you need a galaxy brain to handle and say, yes, yeah, uh huh, EX-FUCKING_ACTLY.

He did his T pose/Christ pose, like, seriously a LOT, so much, a real staple!

He sounded so fucking GOOD, and we were especially thrilled when he sang our faves (my friend: We Made It, me: Always You, both of us: Copy of a Copy....).

I am 100% convinced he can't read signs past the second (first???) row--he sees someone with a sign, points, gives a smile and a thumbs up, perfect amounts of crowd service, A+, king.

ZERO BANTER, which was a shame, just the usual "sing it!" "[redacted voice] I'm only here because of you, we couldn't do this without you, thank you, etc." "the crew is amazing [paraphrasing]"

I truly HATED the fact that the monitors weren't synched with him, that just reeks amateur hour, and I blame it on the venue--maybe other venues had it working??? But come on, this is LA.

Speaking of, it's definitely just me, but this venue gave me so many Orange Country vibes that whenever he mentioned "Los ANGELES!", I was like, please, my god, don't gas up the OC this way, we are in Anaheim, for chrissakes, until I realized, hey wait, we're five minutes from the Forum and LAX, he's right!! This venue is cursed!

The crowd was an interesting yet fairly specifically skewed mix of ages and outfits (granted, I only had drinks in one section, for like 20 minutes, but I think I saw only a handful of Harry- or 1D-related stuff). Lots of Louis 2012 cosplay (red pants, striped shirts), but that's it beyond "lookin' to pull" gear,...whither the track suits!! I think Harry makes it way easier, you dead-ass have to own some of these rare vintage Louis shirts vs. finding a green boa at Michael's or wherever.

His aesthetics are so muted, considering this is still a big show, but I also think it's related to his current public image, so I get it. It's interesting, though, how stripped down it is...and I wonder how deliberate that is. And I think it's hella deliberate, fwiw.

ETA: I REMEMBERED!! The venue had one (1) merch booth, and it was outside, and it was fucking FREEZING. Why not bring it in or have more options??? Bad call.

...I have other thoughts, but they're escaping me, and I have to chat with a friend in a sec, so enjoy this venue picture, we had killer seats!!!

1) GOD i've FRIED my brain trying to think of this. i've decided that the gods have to exist as humans when they're copulating with other humans (otherwise conception wouldn't happen) and so they make their dna be just what it has to be so they look the way they wanna look. say, today poseidon is a black brazilian fisher female - if analyzed, his dna would point to south america, to african descent, it would have two x chromosomes, etc etc. how does that selection happen? MAGIC. so children of poseidon wouldn't actually share dna - it would be their mortal parent's + whatever expression of genes the godly parent decided they wanted that day. i think this makes sense esp bc we've seen demigod siblings don't always look the same, like in the hermes cabin - they look different because the god's human form looked different every time they met each mortal parent, so it had a different genetic makeup. but the idea of someone testing a demigod's dna and being like THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST? is really funny asfkjskfjalksjf

managed to get clean files of these previews through inspecting the main page. right off the bat I can tell a few things but theres also a lot of where I go like :? (oh and also I edited these for ease of viewing, they're cropped)

seems like the max is really the amount of characters you have, which is 12. (such an ironic number for sinners). what really interests me is the blue stuff (I'm assuming thats emotion level) in the lil triangles above the portraits.

the top bar doesnt match the icons on the enemies so I'm assuming that thats indicating which icons are to come after this turn?

I'm rather sure that the bottom row indicates turns, not the amount of characters you have. this because all the stats are shared among the same character portraits, including the sanity down (rip). from what I can see here in this abnormality battle, you can act out directed attacks at certain parts of the enemy. much like how you can select the specific tile you want to hit in magia record if dealing with a large enemy. the chain is used like this, so the others are idle and only Don is acting. not sure if thats a must.

I can also see that here, they had brought Outis and Heathcliffe into battle as well but they seem to be dead. freakishly enough their bodies seem to REMAIN ON THE FIELD just as creepy asf lookin effigies at least in this battle. rad.

it seems like the work symbol in front of the names indicates something important in the second pic, otherwise it wouldn't be there. guess you'll have to decide what kind of work you need/want to do. that pic seems to be from a different session, as you can see at the bottom row it's quite different.

here we have Heathcliffe presumably applying a seventh stack of something, and Ryoushuu staggering an enemy. (for those that dont know: stagger is a status when ur basically rendered a sitting duck and take more damage, among other stuff).

a staggered Don Quixote as far I can see (although her blue bar isnt at 0). this time the chain is shorter, presumably bc of the shield icon in the middle. we can now see how stagger looks. luckily shes not attacked here. we can also see that Rodion is dead, and shes probably the lil pile with the axe on the ground (in the middle, above the leftmost glowing icon). and apparently these stacks are applied a lot here. curiously enough I don't see any 'upcoming' darker icons in the back, perhaps because the fight is currently ongoing. a lil detail: theres no zoom so everything does happen at the same time to another level entirely.

also curious: Hong Lu is acting here but theres no glowing symbol above him.

the pretty magia e.g.o attacks in action. looks p cool, what with the multi stagger thing. from the image below, Rodion's is probably the one of the scorched girl.

also theyre alone, so either the screen may not show their allies while its done, or this may actually be a solo mission of sorts.

and i got these pretty ones. didnt crop them bc honestly they would make for rather cool wallpapers?

What is GaaLee Hallo-week? How does it work?

GaaLee Hallo-week is basically a Halloween-themed ship week for the pairing Gaara/Rock Lee. Each day from Oct. 24 - 30th, there will be different prompts to fill. There are (at least!) two prompts per day: a spooky prompt and a sweet prompt, riffing off the idea of trick-or-treat. There is no sign-up and no obligation. Creations for this event can be fanfic, fanart, playlists, icon sets, panel edits, moodboards, memes, closet cosplay, or any other fannish pursuit you can think of! As long as it features the GaaLee pairing and fits a prompt, it counts!

Sounds great! How do I participate?

There’s no sign-up for this event, and it’s open to everyone. On the appropriate day, simply post your creation on Tumblr, indicate which prompt you’re filling, and tag the @gaalee-events blog! You can also use the hashtag #gaaleehalloweek, but be sure to tag the blog as well to ensure your creation doesn’t get lost. The GaaLee events Tumblr will then reblog your work for all to see! If you don’t have a Tumblr or would prefer to participate only on Ao3, that’s also fine. How do the Movie Night / Scary Stories / Free Day prompts work?

For the final day of the event, you can create whatever your heart desires, as long as it’s scary or sweet, and GaaLee-themed! As with the previous days, you can also use “Trick-or-Treat” as your prompt and create something based on that.

What are the minimum requirements for a prompt fill?

This is left open to the individual participant’s discretion. If you feel that what you created meets the prompt, then it counts! A single creation can only count for one day, but it may be inspired by one or both prompts on that day. (For example, you could create something for October 25th to fit the prompt “Demons”, or “Demons and Deities”, but not “Demons” and “Nightmares”.) You can create multiple creations for a single prompt or a single day. If you make something that has multiple components, like a multichapter fic or a multipage comic, each chapter/comic page/etc. can be counted towards a different day/prompt, as long as they’re posted on the correct day and fit one of the prompts for that day.

Do I have to participate in all seven days? Do I have to fill every prompt?

Not at all! You can fill just one prompt on just one day, you can fill multiple prompts across multiple days, or you can fill all the prompts on all seven days. Think of this event like that bowl of candy on your neighbor’s porch that’s labeled ‘Take One’ -- you can do whatever you like with it; nobody’s going to stop you. That being said, if you do create something for all seven days, you’ll be in the Monster’s Ball, which sounds very cool but really just means that your creations will be listed at the top of the event wrap-up summary in a fancy text box.

Does everything I make have to be Halloween-themed?

Nope! While we’ll all be getting in the mood for Halloween, ghosts, ghouls, and pumpkins don’t need to feature in your creation. As long as you feel like your creation fits one of the prompts, it counts. That being said, we’d love to see the fandom flex their horror muscles and go full Spooky Season on us. Bring on the blood and guts!

I have something I’m already working on that fits one of the prompts, can I use it for this event?

Yes, with a couple of caveats! The creation must be new and posted on the date of the prompt that it was created for. If you already have a partially published project and something new you’ve created for it fits one of the prompts, that can absolutely count. For example, if you’re writing a 20-page comic about a haunted house, and you post a new page on Oct. 24th, you can count that for the prompt “Haunted House”. If you say you created something with this event in mind, we’ll take your word for it. The only other restriction is that if you’re creating your project for a different event (such as an exchange, ship week, theme week, big bang, etc.) and it also happens to meet one of the GaaLee Hallo-week prompts, you should check the other event’s rules to ensure they don’t have any restrictions on counting a single work towards multiple events.

Are there restrictions about what kinds of content can be created for this event?

Because of the Halloween theme, it’s to be expected that some works might be transgressive, upsetting, or triggering. However, we want this event to be enjoyable for as many people as possible! We ask that you use caution and consideration in your creations and be mindful of the ways that traditionally ‘scary’ tropes have been used to harm marginalized groups. Tag judiciously and use your best judgment. Be wary of ableism, such as using a person’s mental illness or physical disability as a scare factor or to make them seem more monstrous or mysterious. This does not mean you can’t create works with or about disabled or neurodivergent characters, simply be mindful of how those characteristics are portrayed and the role they serve in your work. Avoid transphobia, such as portraying a male character in a woman’s costume for laughs or using a character’s trans identity to make them seem villainous. (Lookin’ at you, Buffalo Bill.) This doesn’t mean your characters can’t explore gender roles! But it’s important to be thoughtful and intentional about how you portray transgender characters in a horror setting. “The Savior Sessions” Part 3 of 33 - Negan x GN!Reader

Summary: Part three of the savior sessions. Both the reader and Negan open up about their fears on a rainy day.

It was raining when you woke up.

Droplets raced down your windows and thunder rolled in the distance. You knew it would be a day that was spent mostly inside. However, you also knew you had to pay Negan a visit.

It was odd. He had surprised you. You could still see the layers of the man he was years before, but there was something...new that wasn’t there when he stepped out of that RV and introduced himself to your people.

Since you were young, you always believed in second chances. You never really thought anyone was truly evil until the world ended. Then, you had met people like the Governor and Gareth, two men who killed who for fun, who took pleasure in the torture and destruction of others.

While Negan had done evil things, you didn’t think he was evil. If horrific acts categorize someone as unsavable, then those closest to you, and even yourself, would be considered just as bad. Nobody was innocent in the new world, but perhaps some of them could still find redemption.

Rolling onto your back, you stared up at the ceiling as the rain pelted the roof. The drumming of it drowned out the world for just a moment and you allowed yourself just a few more seconds of peace before throwing the blanket off and getting up for the day.

You quickly dressed and then made way your way to the window. Few people milled around in the soaked streets. A few kids splashed in puddles as their parents smiled from the cover of their porches. You watched as Gracie ran around as Aaron tried to catch her, both of them laughing the whole time.

Your house was one of the only ones that were left unscathed from the Savior’s attack. You lived next to Rosita who would sometimes use your spare bedroom when she needed a break from her boys. However, you tended to be alone for the most part unless one of the parents asked you to watch the kids. Being a teacher before the turn, you were really the only one who was able to get the little ones to calm down and listen.

Many people figured you would be the one to take over as the full-time teacher in Alexandria, but you couldn’t do it. You loved teaching back then, but now after everything, you were so different. And while you still cared about the kids, you were now more comfortable with a gun on your hip, watching the walls, or now, chatting with a killer.

You grabbed your coat and then headed out of your house, walking towards the infirmary. Siddiq had been experimenting with a new tea that would help improve the immune systems of the Alexandria residents as the weather turned for the worse. Laura had been his last guinea pig for a taste test and the blonde had nearly choked it down while she tried to put on a brave face. However, the doctor had seen right through her and tried again.

You were more than willing to help him out this morning as he had stitched you up enough over the past few years. The rain soaked your hair as you walked down the road, trying to keep your jacket tucked around your neck to keep the bandage that was placed there somewhat dry. Siddiq had patched you up the day before, but you had no desire to get an infection from a ruined bandage.

As you approached the infirmary, Siddiq was already waiting for you on the porch. “I saw you coming,” he said with a warm smile.

“I would have been here sooner, but I slept in,” you said with an apologetic shrug.

“It’s the weather,” Siddiq said as he picked up two mugs from the table by the door. When he handed both of them to you, you rose a brow in question. “It gets cold in that cell,” he said with a shrug of his own. You smiled slightly, oddly touched that Siddiq had thought of Negan. Then again, he was the one who had looked after the man after Rick had opened his throat.

You took a hesitant sip of the sweet-smelling tea and then relaxed as it actually tasted pretty good. “I think you managed to get this one right, Doctor,” you said raising your cup to him.

“Mind telling other people that?” he asked.

“I’ll spread the word, Siddiq,” you said, walking back down his steps.

“Have fun,” he teased.

“If both of my hands weren’t occupied, I would be sending you a very rude gesture right now,” you called over your shoulder as you continued toward the main road that led to Negan’s cell.

The guard waved to you as he left his post. You figured he hadn’t been there long. You were also trying to convince Michonne to drop the guard altogether. Negan knew he would most likely be executed if he broke out and from your conversations with him, you didn’t think he would try anyway.

Balancing the mugs in one hand, you entered the stone building, shoving the door close with your foot. “Someone has their hands full this mornin’,” Negan said as he stood by the bars.

“Courtesy of the good doctor,” you said, approaching him and handing him a steaming mug. “Trust me, I already checked for poison.” You hadn’t but it amused him. Negan took the mug through the bars and enclosed his hands around it.

Not bothering with the chair this time, you sat on the ground by the bars, pulling your knees up. Negan joined you, leaning against the cold wall. “How was your morning?” he asked, pleasantly. You chuckled under your breath. “What?”

“Nothing,” you said shaking your head. “It’s been...wet.” Negan looked at you and you rolled your eyes. “Don’t be gross,” you warned and he raised a hand in surrender.

“I didn’t say anything,” he said.

“No, but you were thinking it,” you said with narrowed eyes.

“Ah, see, would you look at that! We’re so close we can already read each other’s minds.”

“Oh, great,” you said, turning up your nose. Negan mirrored your earlier expression and rolled his own eyes.

“So, you don’t like the rain, then?” he asked.

“I don’t care for the thunderstorms, but I like a little rain. It makes the Walkers slower and freshens up the rotten air,” you explained, sipping on your tea.

“Yeah,” Negan agreed, “I’m not too big on the thunderstorms either. Way back when the world was still somewhat functioning, we had a massive storm that cut the power right in the middle of the school day. Kids are rambunctious enough and then you give the little assholes a power outage and well…”

“Shit hits the fan,” you concluded.

“You sound like you have personal experience,” Negan noticed.

“I used to teach middle and high school English,” you revealed and Negan looked at you in surprise.

“Did you like it?”

“It was better than this,” you said with a snort.

“Fair enough,” Negan said. You let your head fall back and that’s when he noticed the bandage on your neck. “What happened there?” Your hand came up to touch the dressing.

“Oh, I got cut when I was helping Scott with one of the walls. Walkers snuck up on us and I tripped on a piece of metal, scratch it on my way down. No big deal, I’ve had worse.”

“Haven’t we all,” Negan muttered and you saw a flash of something behind his eyes, but it was gone in a second. “Well, you need to be more careful (Y/N), I can’t have my BFF gettin’ munched on by a corpse.”

“BFF?” you asked with raised brows. Negan just winked back. “Alright, Mister, today, I want to hear a story from you.”

“I thought you said you were going to tell me what your vote would be,” Negan said, turning his head to look at you, waiting. You sighed as you remembered promising him that at the end of your last conversation, but you had been doing most of the talking in these sessions and it was his turn.

“Story first,” you told him. “Then I’ll tell you.” He looked at you annoyed for a moment before shrugging.

“As you wish, your majesty,” he said, but then he began his story. “Alright, how about the first time I ran into a herd?”

“Oh? Do tell,” you said, resting your elbow on your knee and watching him.

“Right, so, it wasn’t long after the Turn. Corpses were everywhere and you couldn’t walk out the door without having to bash in some skulls. I was trying to find someplace to hold up for a few days. I was with two other people, both are dead now, but they were decent people to travel with. My wife had just died and I needed to just leave, you know?” you nodded, understanding. “I made it to Richmond and god the number of Walkers was fucking terrifying. At this point, nobody knew what the fuck was going on. Not like we do now, but it was different back then as you remember.

“We moved into the city and then when I headed into the main district, lookin’ for the old FEMA centers, that’s when we saw it. Must have been over five hundred, maybe more. It was like they were all rotating in one big circle and then the bastards saw us and...well shit, I had never run so damn fast in my life. It was like we were magnets for the things and no matter where we turned, there were more and more…” Negan let out a breath as his memories haunted him.

“What did you do to get away?” you asked.

“Managed to get an old tow truck workin’,” he said. “Plowed that sucker right through them until we could find high ground. Wasn’t pretty, but dealing with Walkers never is.”

“I think we all learned not to go to cities again after the first time,” you said, finishing your tea.

“You did it too?”

“Atlanta,” you said with a nod. “Though, I did it multiple times for supplies so I guess I’m the idiot here.”

“These were the runs you went on with Glenn?” he asked and you were surprised to hear him say Glenn’s name, but you nodded nonetheless.

“Right,” you confirmed. “Though, I wasn’t with him the day he found Rick.”

Negan was quiet then and you knew he was thinking about Glenn. A few days before, Gabriel had come to you and told you that he sometimes overheard Negan saying his victims’ names in his sleep. Negan probably didn’t even know he was doing it, but it only added to your theory that Negan felt guilt for what happened at the line-up and everything afterward.

“The fear I felt when all those Walkers were coming for us…” Negan continued. “It was the most primal thing I had ever felt. You know how they talk about fight or flight?”

“Yeah.”

“I never once thought to fight at that moment. All I wanted to do was run and not look back. It wasn’t until weeks later that I got sick of running and I finally made Lucille.”

“‘Lucille, give me strength’,” you quoted and his head whipped towards you. “I told you, I was good at surveillance. I guess she did more for you than we all first thought. Not just a bat after all.”

“Never was that simple,” he said and you could hear the sadness in his voice as he spoke the words.

You were wondering if you could find her out in that field. It had been years, but if by some miracle it was there, you may be able to get it. Not that you were going to give it to Negan, but maybe someday if he was let out and went looking for her, you could give that piece back to him. The thing that was hated by your people but created the resilient man before you. You figured that was something.

“You asked me before who the first person I killed was,” you began. Negan waited patiently. “I never knew his name or if he had a family, but I remember his face and how I felt at that moment. I was terrified. We were under attack by this man who called himself The Governor. This man ran a community, a town, and he was horrible. He was a rapist, a killer, and an overall tyrant. Not somebody that would have been welcomed here or the Sanctuary.”

“Damn right,” Negan sneered.

“We had liberated the town and Michonne had tried to kill him so he was pissed and eventually rolled up to the gates of the prison we were living in. He blasted our towers to rubble and his men and women began killing us. We were lucky enough to be pretty strong then and we killed most of them. Daryl got his hands on some grenades and took the tank out.”

“Tank?” Negan asked.

“I told you, son of a bitch was crazy. His people attacked and we had to defend ourselves. I was trying to wrangle all the kids with a man by the name of Tyreese. He was Sasha’s brother. He and I were almost out when this man came up and tried to kill Tyreese as he held a very young Judith in his arms.”

Taking a breath, you tried to stay calm as you recounted the events. “He was gonna kill the baby and I had one of Daryl’s knife so I just rammed it into the man’s neck. I didn’t think it would be that hard, you know? Walkers are much easier, so when the blade made contact, it almost didn’t go through. Blood flowed all over me from the artery I had severed and Tyreese ran with Judith. I watched the man die at my feet as I collected myself, but it didn’t last long. A second later and an explosion racked the courtyard and I went down. I didn’t see Tyreese or the baby until we were all reunited.”

“You did it to protect your people, to protect a child,” Negan reminded you.

“I wasn’t upset I killed him, Negan,” you said. “I was upset at how easy it was to do it.”

“I get that,” he said and you could tell he was being honest. That was something you admired about him, he never lied if he could help it. “What happened after that?”

“Michonne killed the Governor and I woke up just as a Walker was about to kill me. Then, Glenn came out of nowhere and killed it and I ended up staying with him and Tara as we went to find the others. On the road is where we met Rosita, Abraham, and Eugene. I didn’t know it then, but I would be killing a lot more in the next few weeks.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m not and you wouldn’t be either if you knew who tried to kill us...who tried to fucking slaughter us like cows…” your fists curled in as the visuals of Terminus flashed behind your eyes.

You hadn’t realized you were shaking until you felt a hand on yours as Negan reached through the bars to calm your hands. You realized then that this was the first time he had touched you and you felt oddly comforted. You patted his hand in thanks and he withdrew it, placing it back in his lap. “So, just know you’re not the only one who has felt fear like you did in that city.”

“But you fought,” he said.

“I did, but all I wanted to do was run. It took me a long time to run towards danger than from it. Rick, Daryl, Carol, Abe, they all taught me to fight.”

“They did a good job,” he complimented. “You are one certified badass (Y/L/N).”

“Who told you my last name?” you asked, narrowing your eyes.

“Judith,” he said with a grin.

“Should have known,” you said with a small smile.

“There it is,” Negan said, pointing at your mouth. “I like seeing you smile.” You went to roll your eyes again, but a loud crash of thunder interrupted you. You jumped.

“Jesus,” you swore under your breath. “That is why I hate storms.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you,” he joked and you pushed his shoulder through the bars, making him laugh. The two of you sat in silence then, listening to the rain. This was only your third time speaking to him, but you were starting to feel a kind of camaraderie between the two of you. It was strange, but it began to feel natural. You wondered if this is how Judith felt when she spoke to him, this kind of calmness. Then again, Judith could make friends with everyone.

Negan’s eyes fell closed as he breathed in deep. In the low light of the cell, you could see the shiny line of the scar that permanently marked his throat and you finally answered his question.

“I would have voted no,” you whispered. His eyes opened slowly and his head rolled to the right to look at you.

“Why?” he simply asked. You kept eye contact as you spoke, making sure he understood every word.

“None of us are saints, Negan,” you began. “All of us, Hilltop, Alexandria, Kingdom, Oceanside, we’ve all killed without a second thought to protect what’s ours. I’m not saying what you did was right, but sometimes I think back to the line-up or when you set the Walkers loose on Hilltop and I can’t help but think that I would’ve done the same if the situation was reversed. Maybe not with a baseball bat, but we’ve tortured and we’ve executed.”

“So, you’re saying that you wouldn’t have killed me because you’ve done shitty things, too?” he asked.

“There is enough death in the world already,” you said with a shrug.

“Unbeing dead isn't being alive,” Negan quotes and you tilted your head slightly.

“E.E. Cummings was a wise man.”

“Indeed he was,” Negan agreed with a smile. “Thanks for saying that.”

“I told you I didn’t hate you and I meant it. To an outsider, we’re both monsters,” you explained. “I imagine that if I had been with the Saviors, I would have seen this side as the villains. All about perception, my friend.”

“Ah, so you agree,” he said with a grin, “we are friends.”

“Oh, shut up.”
