A small issue.

Yes, oh yes,

It seems to have come down to some very shitty odds. I wish to express a few key points about the writing of poetry, when it concerns people around you in everyday life.

Firstly, the big rule is names. Never use someone's real name, unless that person is for-sure not going to sue you if they take offense. Or call you an abuser. If you don't use the name, whether or not that person knows it's about them, all speculation past that point is just that; speculation.

Secondly, it's worth noting after that fact, nothing else matters. As long as you're not objectifying or singling out a person(s), you can write whatever the all-mighty-hell you bloody damn-well want.

Nobody, even the most important person, has the ability to take that away from you.

You Are Not Dead. I am Not Dead. Poetry is not Dead

I've read through the book You Are Not Dead over the past several nights. I haven't read many poetry books, and can't say that I am proficient in the topic. This book however has convinced me of something. It's convinced me that Poetry is not dead.

Death is an unknown realm, in which, the human mind has no way of having a definitive knowledge or way to experience such a thing. It's death that gives life such a profound meaning. This poets words offer such a deeply rooted meaning that her words add to the profoundness of life. Wendy Xu's poetry on life is as profound as death is to life. Her observations of life, give each poem a unique quality and perspective. The multitude of ways in which she gives the reader the sensation of being part of her journey through life, challenged me, the reader, to think of each poem as its own life force

While I was reading, I could imagine the depth of her thought. I understood her progress in understanding that ineffable state of being, life. Her thoughts paint pictures on the paper, and every time I read, or re-read any of the poems a new quality, or perspective would come to the surface, grab me and send me for a spin, and the old meanings I had for the poem would solidify, becoming a solid base for me to spring off of into her deep and imaginative world. "A tree is always on a journey to becoming a better tree." was one of the first lines in the poem Here in This New Place Is Your memory, that made me think of Wendy's life reflecting on the page. It was also what got me reading this book more carefully. I felt that line grow inside me ever since. Not only is the reader alive but so is the poet and her words.

Another example of the poetry's life force is found in the poem Dear Future Where Everything Is Hypothetical Except for Joy, "Sitting here underground is the same as sitting in a chairlift that spans several mountains because I am paying attention." The title is profound enough, but these opening lines of the poem shows the wonderment of life, and encourage awareness of life to the reader. Her very last statement in this poem "but if it is supposed to be a surprise don't ever tell me." became another living statement to me. Life will be full presuming, knowing, and planning, but sometimes you have to let life surprise you. Even if it means letting your guard down to the structure that we all cling to in life.

I haven't read many things that have the ability to change meaning on a day to day basis. And I mostly certainly never seen words flow with such viscosity and meaning as to bring about in me a change of view points of and the growth of life, and its many meanings.

You Are Not Dead. I am not dead. Poetry is not dead.
