horror sub-genres • techno-horror
techno-horror is a subgenre of horror fiction where the major source of horror is modern technology. it focuses on how technology can be a force of evil, either in its own right or as pawns of mad scientists/engineers. another form of techno-horror is the inclusion of technology into otherwise classical horror narratives. an example is the evolving j-horror genre: classical "scares", such as ghosts, spirits, curses, etc., propagate via hi-tech media: computer networks, cell phones, etc. here, modern technology is not a threat per se, but rather a new conduit for various dark forces. the subgenre is notably most popular in the western world and japan, with little prominence elsewhere in the world.

as y'all know, being verbose is my main character trait. but as I'm looking around, I'm finding that there is literally no other viably large social media website that like. allows you to post an entire chapter of what you're working on without you having to host it yourself, as well as images and just like. notes about the day to day. it feels bad man. RN I'm bouncing between the three options on my shortlist and more and more it's looking like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and use Twitter. I didn't like it because of how much it limits what you can say and forces strangers into your feed, but at this point there's no where else that would fit what I make as well as tunglr does.
I do not have words to describe this dread. the last month has been... nine kinds of hell one after the other. because like. Believe It Or Not. my dog dying doesn't make the top 5 worst things to happen in the last 30 days. this is kinda just the straw that's breaking the camels back rn.
anyways. my Twitter is mostly just sketchy porn I couldnt post here. I'm going to try to start using it actively over the next few weeks to make the transition easier for me. If you use that site, here's my link.

I was just thinking about the top 5 best plot twists I’ve seen/read and I came up with a list. Don’t judge me. This is based on the impact they had on me THE FIRST TIME I saw them/read them. The re-watch or reread factor with the context of the twist is also included in my ranking. Scroll past for spoilers about: warrior cats, guardians of ga’hoole, red Queen, the usual suspects, 6th sense, invincible, the haunting of hill house, Star Wars, Shutter Island, fight club, wings of fire
honorable mentions:
guardians of ga’hoole: metal beak is kludd
invincible: Omni-Man going crazy at the end of the first episode and being evil
Star Wars: Darth Vader is Luke’s father
shutter island: Teddy isn’t a US Marshall, he’s an inmate that killed his wife and kids
fight club: the main character is Tyler Durden
wings of fire: the dragonet prophecy was fake
5. 6th sense: the main character is dead all along. I know M Night Shaymalan movies Can get a bit old with the twists. But damn. This one’s crazy. And neither he nor the audience realizes it until the little kid tells him. Then you think about all the moments he had with his wife where you thought she was just angry at him. But it was literally HIM HAUNTING HER!!! Very fun to watch again knowing it and looking at all the details again.
4. Red Queen: Maven betrays Mare and Cal at the same time. I was shook. I thought I had it all figured out. Because I saw Cal betraying Mare right from the start, he was too loyal to the king and crown. But when Maven was able to stand up through his mom’s mind control I audibly gasped and nearly threw the book across the room. The manipulative piece of trash. And man does he become just a great villain to root against. Plus the whole series is just really good. I like that they call out the dismantling of one empire just for another one to take its place and Mare has to reconcile that.
3. the usual suspects: Verbal is Keyser Söze all along. Boy oh boy. I’d heard there was a twist in this movie and I actively avoided it at all costs prior to watching. And then I saw it and was floored. Very intricate plot that is great for re watching. And the fact that all the parts of the story are just made up from different objects in the interrogation room is genius. Great film overall too.
2. haunting of hill house: this is a two for one deal. The big one is that the red room was each of the family’s special rooms the whole time. The treehouse, dance studio, game room, reading room, ect. Then you watch again and you notice the windo and the fact that there’s something red in every room and that all the interactions with the door are the other characters trying to get in. I love it. The other twist about Nell being the bent neck lady is tragic and it messed me up for a week. Nell and Luke have the saddest stories and I love them both
Warrior cats Long Shadows : the three not being Squirrelstar’s kits. My 11 year old world was rocked. Because who else’s kits could they possibly be?! They had to be related to Firestar so who else?! Don’t judge me I was 11. But the impact of that book rocked the rest of the story through OOTS, AVS, and TBC. And honestly is still impacting ASC with the final resolution of Squilf and Bramble’s relationship. Plus kid me was so shocked and its all me and my friends could talk about until the 6th book came out.
Again, don’t judge me. what about y’all, what are some of your favorite plot twists?

I think the only, what would you call it, grammatical errors?, that I really see often are
Shudder (trembling) vs shutter (similar to blinds that go over your window)
Lose (not winning) vs loose (not tight) although I’ve already seen people put corrections for this one out there
Scaring (frightening someone/something) vs Scarring (leaving scars)
