Why do you think you would all die there?
I have been watching us. The other boys in general.
We are getting weak within the days even if we can hunt a pig or eat the fruits.
Some littluns are sick, coughing, shitting themselves during night. Some hunters have wounds that dont heal well.
A wrong step on the craggy side of the mountain and you may trip and fall to the rocks and you know... it isnt hard to trip around when we are tired or when it is getting dark.
We all gonna die sooner or later.

this is cody, my lord of the flies oc!! i literally have no idea if this idea is original at all as the only lotf oc i know is @peachtaglia’s oc tommy :’)
STORY (cw/tw for suicide):
when the whole jalph rivalry started, cody never cared about sides. he was too preoccupied with the panic and depression of being stranded. so he stayed with jack, and was a skilled hunter.
instead of hunting for pig like the rest of the boys, cody actually hunted birds! simon made little toys for some of the littluns, and cody was given a slingshot. turns out he had a pretty good aim, and would often hit seagulls or other smaller birds.
jack wasn’t interested in any meat other than pig, and cody wasn’t interested in the chaos and savagery of the group hunt, so soon cody became one of the main food providers for his fellow littluns.
cody was quite attached to simon, and was deeply disturbed after the older boy’s death, and refused to hunt afterwards. he was also right next to roger when he rolled the boulder that killed piggy, and had a close view of the gore.
experiencing piggy’s violent death was cody’s breaking point. he disappeared sometime while the hunters were searching for ralph. in the chaos, no one noticed.
cody’s body was found during the search of the island for any missing survivors. it is believed that he took his own life.
FUN LIL FACTS:
cody struggled with depression, anxiety, and other disorders before his time on the island. his bpd was part of the reason he had originally idolized and grew attached to simon
cody lived with his mother and her roommate (totally not her lesbian lover why would you ever think that)
his favorite animal is a nightingale (partially because i thought it would be funny for a bird hunter to love birds, partially because i hate myself and needed to cause further pain with a good omens reference)
his favorite character is winnie the pooh
his favorite movies are the winnie the pooh backson movie, disney’s tangled, and monsters inc. (i know the book took place way before these. just roll with it)
he likes mashed potatoes :)
he has sensory processing issues, and was often too overwhelmed by the grime and dirt on the island
for a while, cody refused to take off his choir uniform (even in the intense heat) as the familiar soft cloak brought him comfort
he is allergic to shellfish
he is rather quiet in nature
he is one of the only littluns that roger doesn’t hate, as he’s good at doing what he’s told and is good at hunting

(Guys I did it!! I'm finally making an intro!!) ❀ Hi hi, My name's Miriam, but Miri works too..
❀ I'm 13, so I suppose you could consider me a bit older than the other kids.. But that's okay, that just makes me more mature if anything..
❀ I'm mostly British, I mean, Dad is, but Mum is Caribbean, and I usually spend more time with her anyway...
❀ I like cats, bugs, being outside, flowers, making flower crowns, all kinds of music.. and the littluns! They're real funny sometimes, especially when they don't even realize it...
❀ I guess a few people say I can be rude sometimes.. but I don't ever mean anything I say, they just don't get my sense of humor! And if I actually hurt someone's feelings I always apologize! I swear! It's just something I got from Mum...
(This is a side blog of @rqsp-bxnni, even though I don't even post anything lol)
(Everything about Miriam will be posted under #ask miri thompson lotf)

Okay this is more of a serious post (not really) because it talks about psychology. It's about how Roger from Lord of the Flies shows certain traits found in people with Conduct Disorder, and compares how he acts to the DSM-5
Below the cut is a long explanation
First off, I need to make two things clear
1) Conduct Disorder (CD) is different from Anti-Social Personality Disorder (ASPD). ASPD is for adults/older teens, CD is for children. This is because many traits of ASPD are common in children who have not met certain developmental milestones (lack of empathy, not being social, etc).
2) CD does not make someone a bad person. Roger commits terrible acts throughout the book, that is not why I think he possibly has CD. I simply want to explain certain actions/traits. CD (and ASPD) is caused by childhood trauma and can be corrected with counseling.
Keep in mind that I am not a professional!
Okay! I will be going through the DSM-5 and comparing what’s in there to quotes from LotF. If you believe I missed something, please put what it is and a quote in the comments, and I’ll add it!
“Aggression to people and animals”. Roger throws rocks at young children and killed Piggy. The hunting scenes could be viewed as killing out of necessity; they needed food.
“Roger stooped, picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry― threw it to miss.”
“High overhead, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever… The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee…”
“Often bullies, threatens, or intimidates others”. Roger throws rocks at littluns (see quote above) and says something intimidating to Robert.
“You couldn't stop me coming if I wanted."
“Often initiates physical fights”. No sign of this in the book.
“Has used a weapon that can cause serious physical harm to others (e.g., a bat, brick, broken bottle, knife, gun)”. Roger used the boulder with Piggy and the sharpened stick with Simon. Direct quotes either have been used above, or only imply Roger’s involvement.
“Has been physically cruel to people”. Roger is heavily implied to have tortured Samneric.
“You don't know Roger. He's a terror.”
“Has been physically cruel to animals”. The hunting scenes could be an example of this, but I believe they needed food. I won’t deny that they were cruel to the pig, but hunting itself is often cruel.
“Has stolen while confronting a victim (e.g., mugging, purse snatching, extortion, armed robbery)”. Stealing Piggy’s glasses was entirely Jack’s idea. Roger shows no sign of doing this in the book.
“Has forced someone into sexual activity” No sign of this in the book.
“Destruction of property”. Destroying the conch shell wasn’t something done on its own, it was more of a secondary thing compared to Piggy’s murder. (And it was a symbolic thing)
“Has deliberately engaged in fire setting with the intention of causing serious damage”. It is not clear in the book who’s idea it was to set the forest on fire. I assume it was Jack’s, although some belief it was Roger’s idea. Up for interpretation in the novel.
“Has deliberately destroyed others’ property (other than by fire setting)”. Same argument with the Piggy conch. Up for interpretation in the novel.
“Deceitfulness or theft”. No sign of this in the book.
“Has broken into someone else’s house, building, or car”. No sign of this in the book.
“Often lies to obtain goods or favors or to avoid obligations (i.e., “cons” others)”. No sign of this in the book.
“Has stolen items of nontrivial value without confronting a victim (e.g., shoplifting, but without breaking and entering; forgery)”. No sign of this in the book.
“Serious violations of rules.” Murder of Piggy (see quote above) could be this. Not entirely sure what it means, probably means breaking serious laws.
“Often stays out at night despite parental prohibitions, beginning before age 13 years”. No sign of this in the book.
“Has run away from home overnight at least twice while living in parental or parental surrogate home (or once without returning for a lengthy period)”. No sign of this in the book.
“Is often truant from school, beginning before age 13 years". No sign of this in the book.
"The disturbance in behavior causes clinically significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational functioning." Roger's school life is never brought up, nor is anyone's opinion of him before chapter 11.
"If the individual is age 18 years or older, criteria are not met for Antisocial Personality Disorder." Roger is under 13.
“Lack of remorse or guilt: Does not feel bad or guilty when he/she does something wrong (excluding remorse when expressed only when caught and/or facing punishment). The individual shows a general lack of concern about the negative consequences of his or her actions. For example, the individual is not remorseful after hurting someone or does not care about the consequences of breaking rules.” Roger felt no remorse about bullying littluns, unlike Maurice.
“Maurice still felt the unease of wrongdoing. At the back of his mind formed the uncertain outlines of an excuse. He muttered something about a swim and broke into a trot. Roger remained…”
The rest of the DSM (linked here) is meant for trained psychiatrists. I am unable to compare Roger to the end section, as I am untrained, and we are never told when Roger began to act this way.
Feel free to say if you think Roger would be diagnosed with CD in 2023, I just want to look at it from the book. To really label him, we would need to see more on how he acted pre-island and post-island

My "hot take" on Piggy and his role in LOTF (more like a rant)
These are all my opinions and interpretations of the book. Feel free to discuss in the comments :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) The Metaphor around his character
I personally view Piggy as a metaphor for logical thinkers and intelligence in society . He's the smart and logical one out of the group, well, as smart and logical a preteen boy can be, but he's significantly smarter than the rest. He knows things. Piggy gave Ralph most of the important ideas used throughout the book (Conch; social rule, assemblies; order/community, etc), even if it was in a smart-ass way. He helped Ralph and the others with more analytical and aware tasks in earlier chapters (Keeping track of the Littluns, names, organizing tasks, etc). His ideas and proposals are logical. (I'll come back to this)
2) What's with all the teasing?
Surface-level, he's an overweight kid with asthma and wears glasses. Very easy to tease, especially being the only one physically different in a group of young boys (coming from experience). Metaphorically speaking, I truly believe that Piggy and his constant, public humiliation from (mainly) Jack, who represents the "evil in society" and pure instinct (Ralph POV), reflects on how as a society, people tend to shut down and ignore new, intelligent thoughts and ideas. Now, society and people are constantly evolving, yes, but people hate change and feeling questioned as to what they already belive as true. So, as Piggy is bringing these good and new ideas to the group, he gets teased and shut up because what do his ideas cause? Change and questions.
3) His name
Now, I can't be the only one who is a smidge upset we never get to know Piggy's real name. However, although it would be nice, I do belive Piggy's name has a very...poetic? meaning to it and is significant to the book. Now, he was reluctant at first to tell Ralph, but ended up telling him that kids used to call him Piggy. This makes Ralph laugh and tease (if I remember correctly). This is what he was used to. Now, all he wanted was for Ralph to NOT tell the group that he was called Piggy before the crash. It's an understandable request and not that hard to fulfill. However, what's one of the first things Ralph does? He calls him Piggy AS he's being teased. This makes the humiliation worse for Piggy and the little trust he put in someone on the island was broken.
Now, every Bigun on the island has a real name, an identity, except Piggy. He is the only one without a sliver of his identity before the island. He will forever be remembered by the boys as Piggy. Piggy, a nickname used to taunt and brutalize his self worth and identity.
"Well why didn't he correct the other boys?". As someone who went through bullying because of their physical appearance, these names really take up every ounce of your self-worth and your identity with yourself. Piggy knew himself as the names he was called. What's the point in getting your name out there if it's going to be stomped on and ignored? It would just be another jab at himself, wouldn't it?
4) His death and everything to go along with it
Piggy is the last character to die in LOTF, and his death has immense symbolism and meaning to it. Now, he recommends that Ralph's small tribe of (4) go and get his glasses back. Not a very possible request, if you look at it statistically, but hey! Piggy does the thinking and Ralph does the leading, right?
Fast forward and Ralph is trying to be reasonable. He comes in peace, essentially saying "What the fuck? You could have just asked." Now, who's coaching this speech, reminding of the main reasong they came? Piggy. Of course, things don't go Ralph or Piggy's way and Jalph is having their fight. Samneric (symbolism for battle between moral and evil) are tied up and ignored. Roger is throwing rocks, still not daring to disrupt the taboo that he crated for himself. Everything comes down to Piggy. And what does Piggy do best? State what's on his mind. His intelligence.
"I tell you, I've got the conch! Surprisingly, there was silence now; the tribe were curious to hear what amusing thing he might have to say" (Golding 180).
The tribe is ready to laugh at Piggy's reason. This part of the book is where the conch comes into a big play. It represents social order and reason. It's so well protected throughout the book and having it out in order to reason with "savages" is a ginormous risk. But hey, intelligence has control over the social setting currently, and what's the best way to combat against savages?
(This is getting long so I'm going to sum this up. If you're curious, read pages 180-181 with this idea in mind).
-------------
"High over head, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all of his weight on the lever" (Golding 180).
Roger, the character we spent learning as someone who is sadistic but doesn't dare interrupt that once sense of normalcy around Samneric and Ralph as he throws rocks at them, dropped a big ass rock on Piggy's head, reaching his final turning point.
The conch, all social order and structure, is smashed into thousands of peices, never to return again.
Piggy, intelligence, rational thinking and logic, has his skull cracked in half, and dies how he lived. A social mockery. Someone who's only identity is a sick nickname, taunting him for as long as his story his told.
The island has reached a point of no return.
Society and order in the group, gone and washed out into sea, alongside the peace that once was.
Minor characters in LOTF
GUYS ok so I'm planning on writing something for the cowboy au, but I reaaaaally need to add minor characters (eg. Bill, Robert, Henry, Harold, Wilfred, and even littluns such as Percival or Johnny).
So I was wondering, do you have any headcannons for these characters that you'd like to share? It'd really help me build the whole story :D
