Lilith was her only lifeline here. They made eye contact over the shoulder of a long-winded oil baron, and Beatrice silently begged her for help, getting a small nod in return. Her friend marched away from the corner she was lurking in and straight toward her, grabbing a flute of champagne off a passing waiter’s tray. Beatrice eyed her with a touch of wariness, noticing a hint of mischief in her leonine face.
The oil baron was half-way through a rant about the Paris Accord by the time she stood at his shoulder. Beatrice thought she knew what was about to happen next. Lilith would upturn the flute on the man’s back, ruin his designer suit, and maybe shoulder-check him with a little too much force for good measure. Then she would spew a flurry of simpering apologies until he begged off to clean up, freeing Beatrice from his presence.
Apparently, she didn’t know Lilith’s playbook as well as she thought, because a torrent of ice-cold liquid splashed onto her front instead. “Ah!”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Beatrice!” Lilith could be a brilliant actress when she wanted to be. Beatrice knew this well. Her particular brand of abrasive, uncomfortable charm came in handy all the time, as did her penchant for skullduggery. “Oh, I’ve made a mess of you, this won’t do at all!” Her hands fluttered ineffectually over the front of Beatrice’s gown before she turned a razor-gleam smile on the baron. “I apologize for my interruption, Mr. Simmonds. Would you mind terribly if I borrow Beatrice to get cleaned up?”
The man winced subtly under her repellant stare and cleared his throat awkwardly. “Yes, of course, you’re quite right to. Thank you for your time, Ms. Young.”
“Lovely to speak with you,” Beatrice said robotically, already distracted by Lilith’s hand wrapping around her bicep to pull her away. Once they were out of earshot, however, she scowled at Lilith. “That was hardly necessary.”
Lilith shrugged, lips ticking upward. “Maybe not, but it was funny. And what’s the harm? It’s not as if you like that dress.”
Beatrice huffed, but could not refute the assertion. “Still, what am I supposed to do now? Can’t exactly dab this up with a hand towel, can I? And I can’t go back out there with champagne down my front.”
“Go home,” her friend responded casually.
“What?”
They stopped just in front of the restroom door, a thin thing painted an inoffensive ecru. Lilith’s sharp eyes scanned the ballroom once before speaking in a hushed tone. “Just leave, Bea. I’ve given you an out, so go home and stop puttering about in this purgatory.”
“And just what will my parents say to that?”
“I’ll tell them,” she said. “I’ll apologize profusely and then distract them by talking about law school. Easy as anything.”
Beatrice sighed, considering this offer. She wouldn’t deny how tempting it was. The chance to bail out early and have some genuine alone time at home was too good to pass up. And if Lilith was so willing to help, then…
“Fine,” she conceded quietly. “I’ll text Danil to pick me up.”
“Good,” Lilith responded, satisfied. “You should probably still try dabbing with a hand towel. At least so you don’t drip all over the back seat.”
Beatrice rolled her eyes. “You’re an ass, you know that?”
“Now, Beatrice, I think you can show a little more gratitude than that.”
She rolled them again. “Thank you, I suppose.”
Lilith hummed. “Needs work, but I’ll accept it. Now sod off.”

I just wanted to say that I love your art style! Your use of color is really pretty and I love the way you draw blushing. Also, I'm curious about JD's other ex Barley I think was his name. If you don't mind, could you tell us more about him? Like did he and JD end on good terms?
Oo, yes! I've been meaning to do more with Barley!
Barley and JD met while Barley was herding the lonesome flats buffalo critters and JD was passing through the prairie. They set up camp in the same area and got to talking and found they really enjoyed each other's company. JD followed on the same trail for a couple of days, doing his own thing with Rhonda and then at night they would camp together, sing songs and share a drink and a meal.
But JD was on his way somewhere so when the trail split off they went their separate ways. For a while JD would go back to that area around Lonesome Flats and see if he could find Barley again but he had no luck for a while. Next time he ran into Barley he made note of the migration pattern of the buffalo so that he could "happen upon" his friend again. So they would spend a couple of weeks together on the trail every 3 months or so and you know..... Maybe they fell in love a little bit but their lives weren't conducive to a relationship at that point so they just appreciated the companionship 💚🧡

For Devil's bastard au: what is the chance that Nicaisa full mama bear/feral mode when alastor get hurt by Adam?
I'm pretty fluid with the timeline of this AU, but to be honest, I just don't see Nicaise falling before the botched extermination. It would take some time after she first learned about the exterminations for her to really spread the word. With the revelation that sinners can ascend to Heaven, Sera and the Elders of Heaven are really feeling the pressure to maintain Heaven's status quo. This is a big catalyst for why they banish Nicaise.
However, I do very much want Adam to return as a sinner, so even if she's not around to go mama bear when it happens, she and Adam are still gonna have beef. Adam can't even make fun of Alastor for being a mamma's boy because Nicaise scares him shitless.
Bonus: Lucifer has little hearts in his eyes as he watches Nicaise dress Adam down. And then Alastor is leaning down in his face flashing the nightmare eyes and simply says:
"N̴̙͘O̶̺̅."

"Could it be called a blind date if two people who have never met spend hours together heading the same direction?"
Lilith asks to arrange Beatrice's ticket. Beatrice's only excuse for not seeing this at the brilliant red flashing warning sign it is, is the headache she's been fighting since she woke up ten hours ago. Not coincidentally, at the same time she saw her mother's email message. The one that demanded her home for her brother's wedding next week. Beatrice agrees with a quick (unnecessary) reminder that she'd prefer a train to a plane. Lilith waves her off to her room and the blissful dark quiet with a snarky quip about how they've known each other long enough for Lilith to know what she needs. Beatrice is asleep before she can wonder why Lilith said 'needs'. Lilith, of course, knows the thing Beatrice needs most for that trip is a distraction. Thankfully her girlfriend has a devilishly wicked mind.
Camila doesn't need to wait patiently for ten hours as her best friend works herself into a stress headache trying to love both herself and her family. "Hey Ava, remember that favour you promised me last week for bringing you ice cream home at 2 am?"
Ava's head pops up over the back of the couch. "Yes! It was amazing Cam. You totally deserve a 'best roommate' award."
"Good," Camila grins. "I'm cashing it in."
Ava fist pumps. "Alright! What'll it be? Supper for a week? The best cupcakes you've ever had? Want me to beat up Todd for you?"
Camila adopts a thoughtful look. Todd had seemed like a great guy. His wife thought so too. Fortunately in learning about Mrs. Todd Camila had the great fortune to meet someone she liked a whole lot more. "Can you even bake?" She finally asks.
"Nope!" Ava cheers happily. "But oh my god, I found the most amazing cupcake stand at the farmer's market last week. I was going to bring you one but I ate them all." Ava's utterly unrepentant.
Camila gasps. "Betrayal!" She clutches at her heart. "E tu, Pikachu?"
Ava shrugs. "I'll grab extra next time I'm there. Seriously though, what's the favour?"
"Oh, that, I'm sending you on a blind date. Pack an overnight bag."
Ava tilts her head. "We're that confidant are we?"
Camila laughs. "Trust me, you won't be able to stop."
Two days later, trapped in a two-person train cabin for the next sixteen hours and thirty-six minutes Ava doesn't know if she should be impressed or scared of her best friend. She's hopeful that her blind date is at least how. She doesn't know she should be hoping someone (anyone) told Beatrice this is a blind date.
