#17: You Led Me Here (S7E12)

Of course Say Yes has found it’s way back to the list. 😊 This is such a powerful and important conversation between these two. And the scene is stunningly acted from them both. It’s moving every time I see it and while it’s heartbreaking that this van scene ended up having some foreshadowing with the fact that Rick and Michonne will in fact “lose” each other 2 seasons later, it also is such a beautiful declaration of how much they love, respect, trust, need, and believe in each other. Rick and Michonne have had such a valuable impact on each other and this scene depicts how aware they are of that...

First, I love how Rick wanting to extend this trip with Michonne came up consistently in so many Say Yes scenes. And it’s super sweet that he wants her to know how much he loved this time with her when he pulls the van over and says he could've gone a few more days and would have liked that.

He knows Michonne's feeling a lot rn, and he wants her to know that while that was a scary moment with the whole Walker/deer thing, the overall honeymoon trip has still been everything they could’ve wanted.

If they could’ve stayed on this run for a month, homeboy would have been down for it, I'm telling you lol. He so openly loves her and wants to be around her. He has for seasons, and I love that post-canon he now gets to more directly express that.

Then Rick just breaks my heart and boosts my respect even more when he admits to her that he hasn’t been sleeping thinking about what they lost and thinking about his friends.

I love that Rick is always so willing to be vulnerable with her and let her see his most human side.

Side note: Another thing I think about is how in the TWD pilot, Rick talks with Shane and shares that while in front of Carl, Lori asked Rick if he even cares about her and Carl at all. It’s a line that intentionally has some real irony to it, as throughout this series we see Rick go on to demonstrate just how much he unquestionably cares about and will do anything for his family. But clearly, because Rick and Lori weren’t actually each other’s person there’s this inability to truly understand each other. It’s really one of TV’s most compelling depictions of a fail-marriage if you ask me. And I noticed that Lori always felt like Rick didn’t open up and show his care enough for her liking, which just makes me think about how much Rick grew over the seasons and how much Michonne brought out a side of him that was so different than with Lori. You know Rick found his true person in Michonne because he is always so willing to express himself with her. He shares his fears, his pain, his secrets, his hopes, and especially his adoration for Michonne always. And I just love seeing that Rick knows he can let Michonne into every part of his heart. 😊

And Michonne is always so willing to be there for Rick in these vulnerable moments like the one in this van because, upon hearing this, she immediately reacts and puts her focus on him, allowing what he’s sharing to resonate even above the personal state she’s in.

You can just see how much she feels for Rick and doesn’t take it lightly that he’s confiding in her right now.

Ok so then this is when these two don’t take their foot off the gas when it comes to getting me emotional as heck. Cuz Rick opens up about Glenn which is already just heartbreaking to hear them talk about him, but then he says how Glenn saved him but he couldn’t save Glenn. And it’s just tragic. 😢

Like you really feel the weight of this loss when Rick says this, and it’s painful knowing he feels almost like he let Glenn down by having to just sit there and not save him in the lineup.

Then when Rick says “it’s normal I know that” cue my tears because seeing him get teary trying to grapple with these heavy emotions and remind himself it’s normal to be stuck on it is just so heartrending. Like the way Michonne is looking at him at this moment is how I’m looking too. You just feel for the guy. 😢

(Another side note: I’ve seen people dismiss Say Yes as filler, but I actually think there’s important things that happen in this ep. I mean, even if the episode was just a time of levity for Rick and Michonne to enjoy their love and have some well-deserved alone time on their honeymoon before the war, I’d personally still have been sat and satisfied. But regarding the series, this is where we get valuable insight into two very important characters' mindsets about the looming war, their recent losses like our baby Glenn, and about life, which is necessary to see imo. And this particular Say Yes scene plants a seed for the show's future as we see Rick essentially choose a successor for who he thinks is most fit to lead the people if something were to happen to him. Which is notable. And, of course, Rick's choice of who should lead the others forward is his own leader - his exceptional wife. 🤗)

When Rick says they went through something that’s not cured, Michonne does just the most heartfelt thing as she softly places her hand on his face and whispers, "Rick, I’m sorry."

I adore the way she comforts him. The way they always hear each other and are present with each other. The way she sees him feeling so much and just instinctually reaches for him and expresses empathy. It’s beyond beautiful. 

And then it’s Rick’s turn to do the sweetest thing ever when he looks at her with so much love in his eyes and takes her hand and kisses it. It’s similar to when she did the same and kissed his hand in a very special scene earlier in the episode (oh we’re gonna talk about it 😋).

The way Rick cherishes Michonne is so evident as he kisses her hand and continues to hold it close to his chest. I’ve always adored how Rick and Michonne are these fearless warriors to everyone else but with each other that’s their baby who they would do anything to care for and protect. And that profound love for the human in front of them was on display in these two gestures from them. 

Rick tells her how they’re going to fight the saviors. He says that’s what happens next, and they’re gonna lose people, maybe a lot of them. I’ve always felt like there’s this layered sadness in Rick finally having to talk to Michonne about the real possibility of this war not ending how they hope it will.

Because throughout this ep, Rick so enjoyed seeing Michonne happy and he wanted to stay present in this positive bubble with her. But as the trip concludes, and as Michonne has now learned that losing Rick could potentially make her empty out to the point of dropping her katana in the face of walkers, Rick now knows he has to let talk of unfortunate possibilities in this war enter into their bubble.

And while it’s not fun to talk about, I appreciate how he still holds her hand throughout this cuz he’s comforting her while knowing this topic is not something she or he really wants to consider. But as the leaders, it’s a discussion that has to be had.

Then Rick says how they may even lose each other. Which again, how Michonne reacts is how I react because we are not trying to hear that.

She turns away and stays quiet because both her winning mentality and her love for Rick won’t even allow her to entertain the idea of losing the love of her life.

But Rick isn’t wrong. It’s possible. And I just like that he puts them in their own category because there are the people they love - and they really do love their people - but the idea of losing each other specifically is a very unique type of devastating for them. 

Rick says, "Even then...it’ll be worth it" and, watching it back, maybe it’s just me but I really do hear something in his voice that says he’s not 100% convinced about that point. But he’s trying to believe it and help her believe it too because he knows how distraught she became thinking she lost him and wants to remind her the fight has to continue even if she’s without him.

And if I wasn’t shedding big tears before...this next part happens.

After shaking her head at the notion of losing each other, Michonne starts to open up as she says, “When I thought that…” and just the trailing off alone is gonna break me every time. Because she can't even bring herself to say the words of thinking he was gone.

And then Michonne pauses and turns to him and, in the most devastatingly beautiful and vulnerable way, says, “I can’t lose you.”

When I tell you I react to that moment like I’ve never seen it before every time. My heart breaks every time. 😭 The love she has for that man is just so deep, and that was so extremely clear in this moment. I’m shedding a tear every time I hear it idc. 

Like wow. It’s such a big deal for Michonne to feel this and express this. She was the ultimate lone wolf when we were introduced to her. This was a woman who had lost so much so abruptly at the refugee camp and felt she had to then keep people at a bit of a distance to avoid being heartbroken yet again.

To see how far she’s come to have opened herself up so fully to team family, and to the Grimes family, and particularly to Rick to the point that now she loves him so much she feels she can’t lose him. It's so meaningful.

And this actually speaks to Michonne's strength because her strength isn't just derived from her katana or her ability to fight and survive - Michonne's strength is also radiantly reflected in her willingness to be vulnerable and open her heart up again even despite the risks.

When I tell you this well-rounded character is an inspiration. I stay looking at Michonne (& Danai) like...

And then y’all, those magnets seem to be kicking in cuz Rick is getting as close as he can to her to remind her that he hasn’t forgotten what she said when she asked him what kind of life they had just surrendered. I love that one thing Rick will never do is forget Michonne or anything she's ever said or done. 😊

Rick expresses that he agrees it wasn’t a life, but what they did while out on this run (and I do think he means everything they did on this run 😋) and fighting for their kids and the communities is what living really is.

It’s precious seeing Michonne nod through tears as she agrees with him about how making a future for their daughter, Judith, and Glenn and Maggie’s baby and fighting the fight is living. Rick repeats her words from earlier in the ep by bringing up 'fighting the fight' which is sweet.

Again, Richonne tones for the win as Rick tells Michonne that she is the one who showed him that’s living. I love that he always gives her so much credit and acknowledges the positive influence she has on him. Not only does he trust her to have this power in his life but also to straight up tell her she has this power in his life because Michonne would never use her influence for bad or to manipulate.

Rick says she can lose him, and Michonne and I really just be on the same wavelength lol, cuz when she turns and says "no," I felt that. Like even though she knows they have to fight for the future, she still loves Rick so much that she doesn’t want losing him to be on the table. 

But Rick says she can and that he can lose her. As I’ve noted before, it’s def meant in a literal sense of a physical possibility of losing each other rather than an emotional ability to lose each other and be fine. 

He softly places his hand on her as he shares they can lose friends, and people they love, and while we hadn’t heard 'I love You’s' by this point, you still just knew how aware they were of how in love they are on this trip.

Interestingly, Rick says, "it’s not about us anymore." The "anymore" makes me think it's said that way because at one point it was somewhat about them for Rick. Not losing Michonne, Carl, and Judith and having more time with them was a big reason why Rick didn't want to fight beforehand.

Then it is a very big deal when Rick tells Michonne that she’ll have to lead the others forward if he doesn’t make it because she’s the one who can. He says it with such conviction, and I adore how much he wholeheartedly believes in her. 

Michonne is truly so perfect in Rick's eyes and so capable. They are each other's biggest fans in the best way.😊

After all this time spent as the head leader, Rick entrusts Michonne most to pass the baton to in his absence. They’re such equals, and he knows that she can carry the torch and continue doing what he has dedicated his life to doing - which is leading the others forward. 

It’s powerful and also heartbreaking foreshadowing that she’ll have to do just that when he’s taken away. But seeing Michonne protect their ungrateful community post-Rick’s departure was heartwarming to me because it felt like her honoring what Rick shared with her in this van in 7.12.

Michonne asks how he knows she’s the one who can and then Andy just perfectly delivers the line, “Because you led me here” Powerful. I adore that the scene ends on this. It is so moving and so fitting for Rick to acknowledge the way Michonne has led him here.

Michonne has truly led him in so many ways, and I love that Rick is fully cognizant of that and seems so happy to look at her and let her know the immense impact she has. Rick is always going to give Michonne her flowers. Always. 😌💐

It’s great seeing Rick get to lift Michonne up and instill some empowerment, honesty, and encouragement to her with this whole conversation. They're both so good at speaking right into the other's heart.

It was a beautifully acted scene, a powerful conversation, and also very telling to both how Rick and Michonne feel about each other and how they’ll proceed when they eventually do get unwillingly separated.

And thank goodness losing each other wasn’t permanent and these magnetic soulmates will finally get to be back in each other's arms once again. It’s where they’re most meant to be. 🥰

Genuine question: Why do you ship Radiobelle? I've seen a lot of people doing it, and I'm curious as to what the appeal is!

The real question is, why do people ship anything? Why do we all see two or sometimes more characters interact with each other and imagine how cool it would be if they both had deep-seated romantic feelings for the other?

Answer: cuz we can!😌

Idk about the rest of you, but I don’t exactly have much control over what I ship and don’t ship😅 I just see the characters together and my brain randomly decides either “yes I want them to make out” or “nooo I don’t really see it”. (I am in no way a pro shipper though cuz no)

But as for Radiobelle specifically, there’s just something about them that my silly fangirl heart can’t resist. While I am fairly new to the HH fandom, I did watch the pilot around the time it came out and a small part of me did ship them back then. But I never really allowed myself to indulge in it and I just wasn’t that into the show anyway so I didn’t bother. Now, after actually watching the episodes and engaging in fandom content, I finally embraced the cringe to the full extent and let myself be consumed by the radio demon and his charming demon belle! :P

Now I’m aware that the majority of people don’t like Radiobelle, or even full-on hate it for multiple reasons. Sure, whatever. You don’t have to like every ship, nor does anyone expect you to! I can understand it’s not for everybody. The main thing that bugs me, though, is when people try to start arguments about why it’ll never be canon and why you shouldn’t ship it. “Charlie is with Vaggie and Alastor is aro/ace!” People ship Alastor with a multitude of other characters and nobody bats an eye,, why is it only when you see him being drawn with Charlie that you lose your shit and get offended about his sexuality being ‘erased’? (That’s a topic for a whole other post tbh). And people can ship Charlie with other people. Hell, they DO! I’ve seen numerous art of her and other characters.

Then there’s also the “Alastor thinks of her as his daughter!” See, I want everybody to actually watch episode 5 again and come back to me on this. No, he fucking does not. The only reason he was saying any of that was to get under Lucifer’s skin. That’s it. That was his whole intention. He doesn’t like Lucifer and wanted to rub it in his face that he has been a lousy father to his daughter, in comparison to all the ways he has helped her, with the hotel and whatever else.

Phew, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way! Onto why Radiobelle has stolen my heart!

I just love their dynamic and it all really started with the pilot. Alastor—this mysterious force of nature who can kill anyone and anything, is capable of unimaginable power and torture—randomly showing up on the doorstep of a hotel to help out. And literally no one else trusts him (reasonably so) but Charlie, the good-hearted soul she is, lets him in. She’s cautious, of course, but she’s giving him the chance to do some good because that’s what her dream is all about!

Now while I do wish they had some more interactions in the actual show, what we have so far is scrumptious✨ Alastor may have been giving an abundance of praise to Charlie to piss off her dad, but I don’t think he was lying. Deep down I’m sure he is enjoying the time they’ve spent together—even if he doesn’t fully realize it. Charlie defends Al’s sadistic behavior to her dad because he was doing it to defend the hotel (and bc he’s a cocky mf lol but it’s endearing to her in a way).

Oh and don’t even get me STARTED on episode 7 bro,, omfg the content!! The way he’s extra touchy with her even after they’ve made their deal. Her being nervous and stressed out but he encourages her anyway and verbally admits that he had faith in her the whole time. Him giving her his microphone—which is likely the main source of his power as shown in episode 8 (where he let her use his mic AGAIN!!!) which just shows how much he actually trusts her,, UGH it’s just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 give me more!!

Now, do I expect Radiobelle to become canon? No. Would it be fucking awesome if it did? Oh absolutely. But I know it won’t, and I don’t care! I’m having the time of my life shipping these two hell-dwelling idiots and I don’t care what anyone says about it!😋

Now, for headcanons:

Since Peni works for Oscorp, she Absolutely milks the fact that they Need her to pilot SP//dr to get Things like rare snacks and merchandise and music and trinkets for Spider's terrarium

She was already kind of an Oddball while going to boarding school when her dad was out being SP//dr. The typical parent-influenced child cruelty towards kids with absent parents

She was transferred to a school closer to Oscorp and her Aunt and Uncle upon getting Bit, and she’s kinda known as the “kid with her head in the clouds” and “kid who definitely brings a spider with her to school but as long as her grades are good and it doesn’t bite anyone then whatevers”

There’s a bit of contradictory info in the comics about how secret her identity as SP//dr is, but for the movie-verse I imagine Oscorp tries to keep that info contained since she’d be vulnerable while at school but also More Importantly to avoid a Media Uproar about them having a Child fight deadly foes on the regular

As I’ve said, I’d want Peni and Addy to be Besties before the VE#m Incident. Maybe instead of the ill-timed approach during school that the comics had, Uncle Ben would’ve introduced Addy to Peni as a potential support/partner during missions. Peni would be kinda resistant at first like the comics cuz What Is She without SP//dr and now there’s someone who could potentially Replace Her???? But then maybe they’d bond over music and that’d snowball into friendship as Peni showed Addy the ropes concerning mech piloting and “it’s different since you’ll be bonding with just the AI but I’m sure you’ll be fine!”

The “new” SP//dr design was based off schematics Peni unearthed after being in a bit of a Fugue State post-VE#m Incident. Maybe they were files her father had hidden away.

It's Awkward when Peni starts living with Ben and May. Peni was probably already a bit self-sufficient from living at boarding school, and Ben and May are scientists first, guardians second. That changes, softens, when time passes. I think by the time the VE#m Incident happened, maybe Peni was beginning to see them more like parents

It's kinda curious that Ben wasn't a genetic match for SP//dr. Maybe Peni's dad and him aren't blood-related??

In the comics, Daredevil is sorta like Peni's mentor? Would love to see him in the movie-verse, too, as like a mentor/dorky uncle who keeps giving her stickers with weird/funky imagery cuz he can't see them and thinks it's funny to surprise the both of them upon gifting like "here, kid." "...Uncle Matt, this is a sticker sheet of gold stars saying 'you tried.'" "Oh, huh, well, you're welcome." (She sticks one of these on him when he isn't paying attention)

And ohhhh MAN, I know we didn't see him in ATSV, but there's a Kamen Rider/Super Sentai-inspired Spidey who pilots a huge zord called Leopardon and he and all the other mech/robo Spideys are like a Squad in the comics. Would love to see him and Peni bonding over mechanics!!

Peni Definitely had a hand in building/improving the Go Home Machine with Margo

Something someone said to me on Twitter because of my Trust comic is that Spider probably hangs out with other Spideys while Peni is hyperfocused on her work. And I was like YES she Absolutely has to basically play hide n seek with Spider and go to all her friends to see which one has him

Spider likes being spun around like a yo-yo and has a Lot of fun hanging with Pavitr. Spider has a specific reason for liking each of the Squad, actually, and will go to them depending on his Mood

Spider is Highly Intelligent and can pilot SP//dr independently to help Peni with tasks (in the Spider-Verse Unlimited webcomic he helps Peni with her hardwiring homework)

Peni and Spider's psychic connection happens with feelings instead of words. In the suit, those feelings tend to synch so they're of one mind. With the other Spideys, Spider usually communicates with a Lot of gestures and hopping but will resort to Charlotte's Web and weave words if he needs to

Back to my mention of Spider with a Terrarium. He has multiple: one at Peni's house, one at Oscorp, and one at the Spider Society. None of them follow a specific aesthetic, just whatever Spider and Peni like at any given moment

Peni keeps a container of live insects on her person at all times for Spider. She has absolutely almost opened the container on multiple occasions forgetting it's not one of Her Snacks

In the spirit of Peni's heinous ability to chew bubblegum and eat chips at the same time, she Loves eating things with strong flavors and weird textures

One time she spent a Whole Week grinding levels for an MMO with her tech bud, Margo, and they celebrated their raid boss victory by turning the Go Home room into a massive blanket fort where they were found fast asleep in a pile of pillows surrounded by snacks (oh, shit, I should draw that hold on I'm adding it to my list, lol)

And to close on a somber note, Peni has a small shrine at home for her father, her aunt, and Addy. She always takes a moment with it before leaving the house.

And nooow, here’s some Actual Canon things in the Movie-verse I noticed after watching ITSV Everyday for a Week:

Her psychic link with Spider and SP//dr means she Feels when the mech gets Rough Up

Her eyes glowed red when Spider bit her and I imagine they just Do That whenever she focuses on their Bond

The SP//dr mech probably had its own sentience/AI since it emoted without either of its pilots inside. Remnant of her father, maybe?

Okay also speaking of her father, since he Built that suit that means he was probably a Huge Dork for designing the outer panel to emote like that (or Peni programmed it that way but it’s cuter to think her dad did it, lol)

Also, either her dad was a Small Guy or the pilot’s chair was adjusted to fit Peni after she took over, which MMM means it has to get adjusted every time Peni grows like that’s not a particularly efficient design choice??? Or maybe the hull can just adjust itself depending on the pilot, lol

SP//dr’s joints are Magnetized, which gives it a pretty broad range of movement

Peni was trained in some sort of martial arts, which makes sense if she ever needs to fight while outside the suit and gives SP//dr more versatility during combat if it’s in-built weapons aren’t viable

so uh, Spiderverse huh, it kinda started a big hyperfixation on spidey-related stuff which led me to discovering some new things like

TOXIN

ANTI-VENOM

and MANIA ( i love you MANIA)

and then after a while i thought about sp//der and the posibility of spiderverse spinoffs, and I thought ) "man it kinda sucks that some others like earth 14512 are kinda just.. there, because i kinda like tho whole multiverse thing of we do this, but with a TWIST (noir show, the future, looney tunes you name it) so I thought, how would it be if VEN#M was a reocurring villain for SP//DER, how would it work, what changes would be made, could this affect peni's development.

SO HERES ARE MY WEIRD BRAINROT SP//DER IDEAS

so you know the thing, peni gets bitten gets a cool mech and stuff, and after a while of being SP//der essentially with her ITSV attitude at some point she gets a interesting experimental AI assisted suit called VEN#M, yes this time he's mostly an AI you'll see later why, VEN#M is essentially a suit oriented to be an "upgrade" of sorts to the original SP//DER with a combat especialized AI designated to take down targets effectively and aiding the pilot, now adding the whole psychic link thing, and peni, after a while of using the suit, evreything seems fine at first the AI helps calculate and time attacks better,it never sem like they can hit her,every swipe hit and strike is always on point she's not so fine with not having her spider bestie cooperating as much as she'd like but she's doing a good job(though sometime she swears she hears someone from time to time even when all alone) all swell and good, well... until VEN#M with the whole psychic link stuff starts learning more about peni and her villains and, how they almost always seem to come back, and so the singularity starts, you know the venom stuff a few changes in behaviour, though this time is mostly centering herself more and more on crimefighting and leaving behind her other matters and stuff, and VEN#M at that point gets even more linked and more or less peni has to deal with the constant sound in her head that tells her to just pull the trigger on mysterio for once,( essentially VEN#M is meant to be an effective battle AI, not a hero) and the more she struggles the more the voice becomes human until she forcefully removes herself out of the suit, after a inner battle trying not to kill, so yeah, she forcedully shuts VEN#M down and bring it back saying it was defective and prefers doing things more her style, they get take the suit to analyze what went wrong and episode ends, "but why can I still hear.. something...?".

And so of course VEN#M eventually gains sentience due to his link with Parker, gets a grudge against her finds a pilot named addy brock, and after a while he decides, "I like this one, she's mine now" and so VEN#M gets on her head starts telling her stuff, slowly ruins her friendship with parker, annnnd addy starts also getting an insane amount of knowledge and a lot of conflicting emotions due to having a vengeful AI on her head, a few confrontations later and, boom, They are VEN#M (not exactly in the most cooperative way, though)

OTHER STUFF CUZ WHY NOT

#So I also thought, what if Addy VEN#M also had a human techno suit, like a weird nano-tech stuff like creating objects and weapons to fight SP//DER, kinda like jake the dog but blue beetle but iron spider but venom. Oh and peni also makes one of those eventually (maybe).

#Also VEN#M of course has backups of himself around and his original mech suit is taken away after the first fight with SP//DER

#Addy is not happy about any of this, at all.

oh and Carnage and others are copies of VEN#M's original code

I am a shifter and one of my DR was Top gun. As people known call signs are not as cool as they seem. You get your call sign from ur unit and most of the time is memorable embarrassing/stupid shit you did or something that happened. Here are the stories behind call signs in my DR.

Iceman: snuck small ice packs into the academy and would use them to cool down cuz there was no working ACs. He gave a few to his friends in exchange for a few bucks, would also hog the ice baths

Slider: did not see a shipment dollie infront of him tripped and fell on it and it rolled down the halls with him on it. He was face down and somehow could not stop the dollie

Maverick: argued w/ multiple unit members for days on end that mavericks are birds. They are in fact not birds. They are cows.

Goose: a goose attacked him while he stood at attention. Proceed to try and fight said goose. (He lost) a few days later the same (they think) goose stole his MRE.

Chipper: was so excited to be in a plane that he ran to his plane slipped and chipped his tooth after bashing his head on the plane.

Cougar: only older ladies would flirt with him at bars could not for the life of him get a girl his age to talk to him

Now these below are my friends/squad mates/unit (I was there when they were named, reason they got named, named them)

Flare: (me) (this was inspired by my grandpa’s wingman IRL) I set off a flare before I was supposed to during emergency water rescue training. I almost set my CO on fire.

Toad: did not close his pack properly and we were camping (team building) near a marsh, got back to base and open his pack to find that a toad was in his pack and it pissed on all his stuff.

Berry: his last name is Barry, he is also allergic to all types of Berrys. It’s ironic.

Straw: his last name is also Berry (w an E) he would not shut the fuck up about how his family has a small strawberry farm and how’s it’s been in the family for ages.

Tarmac: it was going to be Clumsy but then 17 times in one day he tripped on nothing on the tarmac and face planted/landed on his ass every single time. Then proceeded to fall off the ladder to his plane.

Fish4: was originally Trip but then he tripped right off a boat was stuck in the water for a few minutes but in those few minutes managed to catch 4 little fish and shoved them in his pocket. When the CO was lecturing him he pulled a fish out of his pocket and offered it to the CO.

Spider: has a phobia of spiders. Came down the ladder after a hop saw a spider on the bottom rung screamed and kicked the ladder out from under him and somehow managed to crawl onto the wing of his plane

Plus: genuinely thought the red cross symbol was a cross not a plus

Crow: we don’t know what he did to piss off the crow but boy was that crow angry at him, would attack him, do bird shit flybys, and try to steal his food

Stack: was short stack but it wasn’t easy to say in the air. That man is 6’5 idk how he fit in the cockpit

Stilts: she’s 5’6 and would stand on shit to try to be taller. Tried to DIY stilts from wood she found, she failed

Ironically those 2 are a RIO/pilot pair. (Yes the tallest mf in our unit was w the shortest pilot)

ABNB: “all bark no bite” this one should explain itself

Wings: constantly lost his wings at bars, barracks, pocket, you name it. It was common to call out “Wings” to help him find them or a reminder to look at his wings to make sure they were there

Polo: most directionally challenge mf I have ever met, he would get lost anywhere, he could be in a 2ft closet and still get lost. Yes his name was Marco

Driver: slowest mf in the world a sloth walks faster than him. The COs would yell at him constantly to not fly the plane at 60 mph cuz it’s a fucken plane. We thought cuz he walks and flys so slow he would be a good DD. Nope man goes like 90 in a 35. He is not allowed to drive on base cuz he almost hit a captain w his car (the captain was Maverick)

Loser: we can’t have nice things when he’s around. And by nice things I mean contraband. He would report everything all the time because he lost at a board game we snuck in. So yea we named him sore loser. We did a lot of push ups cuz of that bitch

Zeus: the lightning had it out for him stfg every time it rained he would come close to getting struck by lightning

PhD: his name is Stephen Doctor self explanatory (he also only had a high school diploma)

Straps: would not tighten his mfing seat straps in the cockpit and actually gave himself a concussion from hitting the canopy cuz you guessed it his straps weren’t tightened

Matt: big fan of Daredevil and was super drunk and found red sunglasses, proceeded to: start a bar fight, get his ass beat, run into a wall, fight the wall, and when the hospital staff asked for his name he said “Matt Murdock” what a legend…ary idiot

Locked: yea he got “locked” in to a closet. The closet had no lock. the dumbass also pushes on pull doors and pulls on push doors

DogS: “dog shit” thought he was the shit. He was a shit alright

I.T.: was not the computer wiz he said he was, he in fact blew up a computer

Duck: a duck flew at his head we told him to duck, he did not duck and got smacked in the face with a duck

Wheels: anything that had wheels had it out for her, chairs, cars, ladders, planes, gunnery’s, if it has wheels it’s going to hit her at some point in time

Marker: she was a hoot, had colored markers on her at all times and would draw shit on walls, fences, people’s faces, cars you name it. we didn’t know it was her till Sharpied caught her drawing on his face when he was asleep (she got away with it for 6 weeks)

Sharpied: Marker’s fav target cuz he was an idiot and slept anywhere other than his bunk that’s asking for hazing

Banger: shittiest music taste, would head band to fucking classical music 

Buzz: so many reasons I could go on forever, that arm thing that buzz light year does? Yea that’s how he would search rooms

Woody: cowboy, lost his shoes or get them mixed up w other people so he wrote his name on his shoes. Also found a scorpion in his boot (not snake but close enough for us)

Yes they were a RIO/Pilot pair

Dally: ALWAYS LATE I was her CO at this time and every day I would yell at her to not dilly dally and pick up the pace. She wasn’t as slow as Driver tho

Bar: he hit his head a lot on bars

Lake: lakers fan, painted his helmet their colors, we weren’t going to give him that name (was going to call him LA) but then he slipped and fell into a lake like three times

York: he’s from New Jersey

Jersey: she’s from New York

Table: he gave himself a minor concussion from sneezing so hard he brained himself on the table

AIDS: his initials are HIV (Henry Ian Vincent)

Z’s: was a RIO before deciding to become an anesthesiologist it was originally (K0-Know’s nothing)

Cupcake: was a teacher’s pet and brought cupcakes for the CO’s it backfired on him

Globe: a flat earther who told the COs we shouldn’t fly to far cuz we could fall off the world

Boomer: enlisted at 35

MLC: “mid life crisis” literally told us that he joined cuz he was having a midlife crisis…he was 20

PP: not only was he a dickhead he was a passenger prince and a backseat driver/pilot

LukeS: was in a heated explanation of why Star Wars is a good movie and don’t hear me (a CO) ask for her callsign responsed “Luke Skywalker” apparently thought I asked who the main character was

TAFL: “take a fucking look” swear to god thought he was blind no situational awareness whatsoever idk how he made it past flight school

LAS: “Lost at Sea” he could not find the carrier so he just landed in the ocean when he ran out of gas

YARD: “You’re a RIO David” David was also a backseat pilot

LTMYSF: “Listen to me you stupid fucks” His pilot would not listen to him so it was something he said often. It’s even funnier cuz now he’s a Staff Sargent at boot camps

Dyslexic: can’t spell, also struggles to spell his own call sign, if he wasn’t an asshole we would have given him “ICS- I can’t spell” but he was

HTCWV: “Hit the COMPACFLT with a volleyball” yes this man spiked a volleyball at an unaware Admiral Kazansky it was originally PIDS “Pilot in deep shit” im not going to elaborate it was gross

Steps: cannot walk up the steps normally, face plants, trips, takes 2 at a time, slides down the railing.

Canada: a Canadian goose attacked him and during standard concussion test he answered w full confidence that he was in Canada. We were in Florida.

How The Trio Met: Spicy, Lucky, and Cinco

It had been a hell of a month for her. Lieutenant commander Alana “Cinco” Metcalf had her work cut out for her. Not only was she Commander Mike “Viper” Metcalf’s grand-daughter, she was also Vice Admiral’s Simpson second in command. 

She knew she needed a drink before Monday ended so she took her files to work from home. She decided to stop at the Hard Deck to check out why it was so popular amongst the aviators at the base.

Her phone chimed with a text from her current situationship, Jake. She hadn’t replied to his texts or calls from the day before. 

She sits at an empty booth and checks the menu to order something for lunch.

“Hi. Welcome to The Hard Deck? What can I start you off with?” The server asks. 

“Let me have a Cherry cola and fries… Is the burger good here?”

The server nods. “Yes! Our cook makes the patties every morning and does the seasoning herself.”

Alana smiles at that. “Okay. I’ll have one. Medium rare… No onions or pickles please.”

“I’ll be right back with your drink and fries while we get the burger done.”

Alana looks at her phone again at the messages from Jake from the day before.

She knows she shouldn’t ghost him, given that they both are stationed at the same base. Alana does what she can only think to do at the moment. She sends him a voice note. 

“Hey. Sorry I didn’t respond. Phone ran out of battery and I got home very late. I know we’re supposed to be friends but right now I can’t tell you everything. I’m going through some things now and I just need some time to myself to get my life in order. I’ll still see you around the base.”

She sets her phone in her bag and observes the bar, as well as the patrons. 

Some minutes later her food is brought out. Alana hears the door opening and knows her so-called best friend Isabella has arrived.

“Are you sure you should be having that burger and fries? Didn’t you just start a diet?” Her condescending tone is all that can be heard. She snaps her fingers for the server. 

“Yeah I’ll have sparkling water and a salad… No dressing.”

Alana mouths sorry to the server and looks apologetically at her. “Iz… Just cut the attitude with the server. Her name is Lacy. And you don’t snap your fingers to get her attention.”

Isabella rolls her eyes at Alana. “Anyways I was here last night and met this hot Navy pilot but he said he had a girl already and didn’t want to leave with me. He must be lying cuz I didn’t see him with anyone all night.”

“Maybe he does have someone…?” Alana says with a shrug.

“Even if he did, he was still so hot I’d still do him. Maybe you can find out who his girl is… He’s at the base. Find his file and record. Jake… something.”

Alana’s hand freezes over her fries. “Oh! What’s he look like?” 

“Tall! Gorgeous! Blonde with green fuck me eyes.”

Alana laughs. “Is that all? Then I’m sure he does have a girl.” She knew she had no claim to him. They both agreed that their thing would be casual hookups. No dates. No drinks. If the other found someone, they’d stop.

“Well yeah… You wouldn’t know about guys like that since you’re… you know… you’re…” Isabella gestures with her hands and arms to Alana’s slightly wider frame. 

Alana feels her cheeks and neck heat up. Not in embarrassment as other times, but in anger. Before she can give Isabella a piece of her mind, the server has returned with the bill. The grimace on her face told Alana she heard the comment. “Thanks,” Alana says and takes the bill. 

She grabs her purse and takes the bill. She heads to the bar to pay. As she’s looking for her wallet, Alana’s phone falls onto the counter and she doesn’t notice. Once she’s done paying, she leaves for home and gets to work all afternoon and long into the evening.

Isabella on the other hand decided to stay at the bar when she saw that it was nearing the time the aviators and other servicemen would get to the bar. 

Grace was on her break when she notices the phone on the counter and asks around if it was anyone’s. She sets it by the register in case the rightful owner returns. As she was setting it down, it chimes at the arrival of new text messages.

Jake: Guess you’re hiding 🫣 from me today too. I passed by your office to apologize in person.

Jake: Cyclone said you went home. I guess we’ll talk when you want. I’ll stop bothering you.

Jake: Okay. One last one. I’ll be at THD later if you want to join. Need someone to keep the women at bay. 

Grace does her best to respect the privacy of the owner but she can’t help and snicker when she reads Jake’s name. She sees three of her favorite customers walk in. 

Mickey, Bailey, and Reuben approach her. “Hey Grace!” The guys make their way to their usual spot while Grace pulls Bailey aside. 

“Hey… Do you know if Jake is seeing anyone?” Grace asks.

“Spicy! Is Chicken not satisfying you?” Lucky asks teasingly.

“You very well know that he is… No… I found a phone here at the bar and Jake kept texting the owner… Look,” Grace shows Bailey the text messages notifications. 

“Ooh! Bagman has feelings!?” 

“What are you talking about Lucky Charm?” comes a voice behind them. The voice of one said Jake Seresin.

“Oh nothing. Just about who’s last in the students list of favorite daggers,” Lucky teases.

Jake rolls his eyes at her then he groans when he hears a shrilling voice calling for him from across the room. 

“Please say I died. Say I’m married. Anything. This woman from yesterday wouldn’t leave me alone. I told her I had a girl but she still tried to get me to take her home…. I just want a drink.”

The girls turn to notice the woman coming. Grace notices the sway she’s walking with. It’s not a sway of attempted seduction. It’s a sway of inebriation. “Jaaaake!”

Baylie sighs and wraps an arm around Jake’s center. “You’ll owe me for this Bagman.” She leans her head against his chest.

Isabella stumbles into Grace, who had stood to get back to work. “Move bitch,” Isabella says.

Grace senses Lucky and Jake tense up behind her, but she shakes her head at them. She goes to ring the bell. Cheers erupt all over the bar.

Jake smiles and pats her shoulder as he and Lucky walk past her. “Thanks for the drinks!” 

Isabella is trying to focus on all that is going on. “What? What drinks? You’re buying me some?”

“No love… You’re buying for everyone,” Grace more than gladly informs her. “You disrespected a woman so you have to buy a round for everyone.” 

“That’s bullshit! I never agreed to that!” Isabella starts shouting.

“The signs are posted throughout the bar… If you don’t accept the rules you can pay and leave. Nobody wants your desperation here to ruin their night. And if a man tells you he’s got a girl… He doesn’t want you… Get it through your fake tan and fake red hair,” Grace says before running Isabella’s credit card.

Lucky is just staring in awe at her best friend. “I’ll marry you if Chicken doesn’t bang you tonight! That was so hot, girl! No wonder they call you Spicy.”

Jake just chuckles at the two of them. He couldn't help but feel like there was someone missing but he couldn’t really place where this feeling came from. He shakes his head to clear the thought from his mind. 

He’s about to make his way to the jukebox when the phone at the register catches his attention. “Hey Grace. You got a new phone?”

“No. Someone must have left it and didn’t notice.”

“I’ll take it. That’s my friend’s Lana. I’m supposed to meet her tomorrow.”

Lucky quickly grabs the phone. “Nope. How can we know you’re not going to steal it? Prove it’s your friend's phone.”

Jake sighs. “It’s a green wallpaper… The time is set to military time, even though she prefers to still use AM/PM… There’s a small chip on the screen protector, which is a privacy screen protector. And there’s this…” Jake calls the phone. 

Chase Rice’s “Ride” plays as the ringtone along with a picture of Jake in a blue suit with a bolo tie. 

The look of shock and intrigue that crossed the faces of Grace and Baylie goes unspoken for the moment. “Still… That proves nothing!” Baylie says. 

“Hit call back…” Jake says exasperated.

His phone immediately lights up to a picture of a raven haired curvy woman and the ringtone blasting “Body Like a Back Road.”

“Oh my god! Jake is in love!” Baylie exclaims loudly.

“Keep your voice down. And no I’m not. We’re just friends… that occasionally… we… we work out together at times,” he says.

The girls decide to put a pause on teasing Jake, as Grace gets busy at the bar. 

It’s nearing 11pm when a new patron walks in. Their outfit, however, was not one for the bar.

Grace notices the young woman in her pajamas and curls in a messy bun talking frantically to Penny.

“Penny I can help…” Grace says once she recognizes the completely dressed down woman.

“Hi… I was here during lunch and I was wondering if I might have left my phone here… I can’t find it…” 

“Calm down sweetheart. Let’s get you a glass of water first. I’m sure we can find your phone,” she says as she leads her to the bar. Discreetly, she gestures to Baylie to come along. 

Baylie quickly joins them and grins when she notices who Grace was walking with. 

Grace brings a glass of water and asks. “You said you left your phone? Can you describe it? I’m Grace by the way.”

“I’m Alana… It’s a blue phone with a clear case and the design is of a highland cow and a flower crown. Wallpaper is a green sunset,” Alana says. 

Grace nods and hands her the phone. “We were keeping it safe.”

“Oh my god thank you! I can’t believe I lost my phone and it took me until now to get it.”

“Cute outfit… Looking for a cuddle buddy?” Baylie asks teasingly. “I’m Baylie.”

Alana looks at her perplexed for a moment before realizing she’s teasing. “Only if you buy me a drink first.”

Baylie cracks up. “I like you!” 

Grace is also laughing. “I think Garcia would have to fight her for you.”

“He’ll lose,” Baylie replies. 

“I would love to stay and chat but I have an early morning and long day tomorrow and it’s already past my bedtime,” Alana says. She leaves a $20 on the tip jar as a thank you for keeping her phone safe. 

“Come back again. We’d love to buy you a drink or two. You seem fun and in need of a relaxing time.” 

“Yeah... Maybe we can set you up with one of out aviator friends,” Baylie says with a wink.

Alana chuckles nervously. “Yeah. No. Naval aviators are… Well, they only want one thing.”

“Well, I hope to see you on base some time. My call sign is Lucky. Yours?”

“Cinco… But you can call me Cin.”

“Cinco? As in five?” Grace asks.

Alana nods. “Yup. I’m 5 feet tall and my mother was hispanic. So it’s a two-fold call sign.” 

“Was?”

“Yeah. My parents passed away when I was young. My grandparents raised me.”

“Oh babe…” Grace says and gives her hand a squeeze.

“It’s okay now. Sometimes-” Alana shakes her head. “I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my life when you’re working. I should go.”

They say it takes a lost soul to recognize another lost soul. Grace and Baylie had once been lost souls so they recognized Alana as a lost one.

“How about this? We can have a girls night in. I’m not working but we can come hang out here. Get some food and drinks and sit by the water,” Grace says.

“I’ll make sure none of our aviator friends bother us tomorrow and if you want I can join you for lunch tomorrow,” Baylie tells Alana.

Alana can only nod. The sincerity in their voices rang louder than any other sound in the bar. “I’d like that very much. I’ll see you girls tomorrow.”

Grace and Baylie envelope her in a hug before she leaves. They then head over to their group.

Mickey is the first to notice the glint of mischief in Baylie’s eyes. Before he can ask her what she’s up to, he sees her turning to Grace as they sit next to Jake.

“So Grace, are you ready for our girls night with Cin tomorrow?”

“Absolutely! Can’t wait to hang our with her and make her part of our group. She's so sweet.”

“And hot! Those pajamas were working for her! Imagine her looking all dolled up.”

Jake tries to make it look like he’s not listening in, but he’s fully paying attention to their conversation.

“You know… Maybe tomorrow we can find out if she’s single or seeing someone… Maybe we can set her up with someone.”

At that, Jake stands immediately and goes to close his tabs before he tells the group he’s calling it a night. “Have an early workout session scheduled for tomorrow.”

“Yeah make sure that body is built like a back road so you can ride…”

Baylie cracks up and the look of surprise and shock on Jake’s face that it was Grace who called him out. He expects it from Baylie, but not sweet Grace.

He shakes his head at them and leaves.

The girls laugh and Mickey just laughs with them. Oh they were so going to have so much fun teasing Jake.

Now to await the next day so they can fully welcome Alana into their friendship.

some more stanxeno musings based on info of dubious accuracy/validity from the fanbook, and other non stanxeno tidbits i've picked up

so from what i understand, xeno specifically sought stan out after stan won that shooting competition

yes baby xeno recruited baby stan to commit some baby crimes together

i fucking love them so much you don't understand

based on this, we can probably safely assume that stan lived somewhere near the college xeno was attending

i have no idea where this college is. my preference? stanford or caltech. probably stanford, since that would put them in the bay area where the KoS would find them thousands of years later. It just feels right. and also cuz the image of two preteens running around stanford causing trouble is hilarious.

we have no idea where xeno was born lol but again stan was probably raised near/around where ever xeno's college is sooooo as much as i loved the idea of southern smalltown stanxeno as much as anyone else, stan being a born bay area norcal gremlin does feel right. it explains so much.

back to the actual fanbook (I don't have xeno's pages yet, i only have some of stan's. if anyone finds more of their pages send them to me)

stan ended up becoming close with ryusui! i saw a lot of people surprised by this for some reason, even though we already knew this?? the previous extras established that stan and ryusui spent a lot of time training/hanging out together. its not a one-sided admiration thing on ryusui's side either, the word used to describe their relationship is "偉業"/lit. "sworn friend". im happy stan is making more genuine connections with people.

xeno is of course close with senkuu. i would love to talk more about this but alas i have not got my hands on these pages

so. some hinted at ships were confirmed in the fanbook. stanxeno was of course not confirmed. but it was also not denied (not even close! not even a hint of comp het!!). it is left entirely up to the reader's interpretation. i will say that a lot of japanese fans have noted that stan is described in relation to xeno the same way yuzuriha is described in relation to taiju, post-marriage. make of that what you will.

we been knew, but though these two were originally born only a month apart, stan is now years younger. i find that kinda cute but also bittersweet.

other non-stanxeno tidbits:

i seems charlotte is a nanami corp pilot now? she's also apparently older than her precious commander stan now too. cute!

ukyo/sai/hyoga are all close to stanxeno in age too. makes stan calling them the "junior science brigade" even funnier. sir you are only a few years older than them.

senkuu's type is people that do their thing without needing to be told to. basically, he's got a competency kink. which is kinda obvious when you consider the people he surrounds himself with (taiju, yuzuriha, kohaku, gen, chrome etc). and also explains why he's so quick to forgive and absorb all the antagonists like tsukasa, hyoga, moz, xeno, stan... they're all literally the type of person he likes most. Reflecting on his service, Everett wasn't sure any part of his time in the Alliance had been 'normal.'

 Curve balls left and right and maybe he'd just gotten so good at dodging that little surprised him anymore. What mattered was the constant: how he would respond, and which response would keep his loved ones safe. 

 To say nothing had been routine about the Collector mission from the beginning would have suggested that any of his missions had been anything close to cut and dry. From recruitment to Elysium to the Tokyo to the first Normandy to here, back from the dead in a new ship with some old faces and many new ones, surrounded by ghosts. 

 But hadn't he always been, right from the start? His own ghosts and the ghosts of those he came into contact with, changes indelible on his skin, too deep for even Cerberus to erase completely. Scars that should have and did kill him, for all intents and purposes, but life hadn't been done with him yet. Hadn't drained him yet, hadn't used him up until there was nothing left. 

 So long as he still had the capacity to love, and breath in his lungs, and blood in his veins, he would keep crawling, inch by painful inch. 

 "Are you okay, Joker?" 

 A murmur, the raised voices around them something easily tuned out as he focused his attention on his friend. Some bruising, a few fractures, and Everett could only imagine how much worse it could have been. Pale green eyes met his, anguish and regret and grief and guilt, and it echoed from the first time he'd seen him again in this new life. Adding the Geth to their crew had been a major point of contention -- for Miranda, for Jacob, and particularly for Tali. But agreements had been made, and the synthetic had more than proven himself in Evvy's estimation. 

 You trust them a little too easily, don't you think?

 An old argument, debating the merits and validity of synthetic life, but Kaidan wasn't here to help them navigate it. Everett swallowed against the tightness in his throat.

ok so ive started watching ultra q and its actually p fun?

theres no ultraman in here, but thats actually kinda cool, too?

cuz instead of super hero coming and saving the day its just normal people running into a monster and going "oh shit oh fuck oh no what are gonna die oh shit we are gonna die fuck what should we do" and they somehow make it through

the main characters are a woman working as a newspaper reporter/photographer. in the first ep she almost died to a monster induced cave in and monster attack and in the third ep when she heard about another monster sighting she immediately volunteered to go and take photos

and when they do find the monster - and two dead guys, nobody really reacts with a lot of shock or fear - and they start running, she just stops to take some pictures

the other characters are... employees at an airport? mituya air service it said on one poster.

its funny how theres barely any explanation. nobody says who anybody is. one guy picks up a ringing phone and just "yes hello this is the office"

one guy that seems to wear a cop uniform is being questioned by reporters about some object falling into the ocean and just says "ah yes we shot a rocket to mars 6 months ago, this is the capsule that came back"

like. who is this guy? no name used. he didnt introduce himself. is this the government? military? i have no idea.

i guess watchers back in 1966 would have known based on the uniform? maybe?

also reporter girl and airport guy are both wearing some eagle patch on their clothes. but they work at different places? are both places gov funded? how does a newspaper company keep on hiring airplanes and helicopters?

the real mystery is figuring out the setting lol.

and even though the show is super old, the production quality is obviously extremely high and it still looks absolutely amazing now. and whats more: the episodes themselves feel fresh. or maybe its because i dont watch stuff like that.

but in ep 3 they encounter a monster snail from mars and they run away from it. pilot guy shoots at it with a gun (so military after all? or does he just carry a gun? why did pilot guy go in with reporter girl to check out the monster? is that in his job description? what kinda job is that?) until he runs out of bullets. then he straight up throws the gun at the snail.

thats hilarious? like, i wouldnt be surprised seeing it nowadays. it would be a bit tiring in a comedy show, but played straight in a monster show its kinda refreshing.

like its not a deep show, the episodes are only 25min, the formula seems pretty basic, so dont expect a masterpiece or anything, but its kinda entertaining.

they took out the capsule and then we have... this scene of people gathered in a space themed room. and they have name plates. "doctor". "observer". "press". thats so stupid its funny?

also no explanation given who is who and what is even this.

at the end of this scene the doc just gives us the theory that the capsule and the stuff inside (modern fabric and two gold eggs) came from the future? he did not elaborate any further.
