i’ve been wondering how quaritch the sullys or norm & the others scientists would react if spider actually got brain damage from the machine, like a speech problem or chronic illness and he becomes shaky, also how would spider himself deal with not being able to swing through trees safely anymore?

I've played with a disabled spider before, though I never posted it, so here's my idea of a potential symptom list; tremors/numbness in his hands, auditory processing issues, sensitivity to light and movement, focal seizures, a mild stutter, and fibromyalgia (cause we have to project a little). another thing is, he just drops sometimes, his legs give out from beneath him and he ends up in a pile on the floor, otherwise completely fine. he also gets phantom pains of the connection from the machine (from what I understand, that machine would feel like pulling your spinal cord out the base of your neck and plugging it into a car battery). Add that to his PTSD from the event, and you get one fucked up kid.

now we just apply this to his family.

for neytiri it's one hell of a wake up call; her neglect for the child allowed him to be kidnapped and he is no physically affected, seemingly for the rest of his life. spider was always weary of asking for help, but now that poses a massive threat to his wellbeing, and the mother in her aches at the realization that she did that to him, she made him feel unable to ask for help. its also really difficult to watch him go through his focal seizures after what had happened to kiri. she know's its wrong of her to want to care for him now after years of neglect, but she wants to right the wrongs. the only problem is, is the boy is terrified of her.

jake is forced to realize how spider is a lot like him, and then looking back and realizing he was always like him, he was just too blind and dumb see it the whole time. now his kid, if he even has the right to call him that (he doesn't), is struggling just to function, and he'd been the one to say 'he's a tough kid' and move on. he feels sick every time he looks at the boy, and he ends up avoiding him just like the rest of his problems.

kiri would be furious with her family for leaving spider behind when she had begged to look for him, and now because they left him with those people, he's in constant pain and fear, frustrated because he lacks control over so much of his body. she would be one of his biggest caretakers, as she knows how to go about it without being patronizing, though even then, her constant help makes him antsy.

lo'ak would feel... upset, angry, sad, frustrated. he doesn't have one word to describe it. I've talked about this with a few friends, but lo'ak, while he may not actually have these disabilities, feels very adhd and dyslexic coded in the way that his trauma and neglect/abuse present themselves within the narrative. especially in the sense that he was never accommodated for his own "shortcomings" and now he has a disabled brother and he's torn between his internalized "ableism" (loosely using that word to run with the example) that stems from pushing his needs below the surface and therefore expecting other's to do the same, and his want to take care of his best friend and brother. it's not that he wants spider to hurt himself by not hiding his disability, its just that he doesn't know what else he can do, because for so long he's tried to do exactly that with no help. it also really hurts watching spider go through his day to day life like that, especially in the early days when he and the people around him didn't fully understand what was wrong so he sorta had to suffer through trial and error.

tuk is a good kid, she probably accommodates spider best because things don't change unless they have to. she still plays with him, nags him, spends time with him all the same. she just adapts to his way of life. she doesn't treat him like he's fragile or in need of pity, and I could see her inadvertently putting him through some sense of physical therapy as she gets him up and about, using his hands, and such. she makes him smile even when he feels hopeless she's the best little sister he could ask for.

norm and max feel helpless, every time the offer to help him he shoves them off (cause they treat him like he's 5 years old and made of glass). they see him fading away, looking more and more dull by the day, they know he needs help or the injury won't heal and it will only get worse, they know they should have done more when spider went missing, but they can't do anything now and spider hates them (he doesn't he just doesn't like his brian being rummaged around in anymore then it has, he doesn't want to be fixed, he just wants to be. he's tired of everyone pitying themselves for not looking for him, tired of everyone worrying, he just wants things to be normal again.)

quaritch would hate himself, he had brought spider to ardmore, even if he hadn't known what the machine would do to him, he allowed it to happen, he let spider to get hurt, and now he tries to do everything he can to make it up to him. he took care of him in the field, pulled strings to get him under the table medical care back on base, was even willing to give him up to the sully's when it started getting really bad, cause even if they were and parents, spider would have a stable life with medical attention. he doesn't have any ill feelings towards his son or his disabilities as many would assume he would; he just wants his boy to feel ok, no matter what that means ability-wise. he's also one of the few people spider lets faun after him because he knows it's not out of guilt for abusing and neglecting him for years but for making a mistake that spider can't find within himself to blame him for.

(including the tonowari family, because I can, I love them too much to exclude them)

tonowari and ronal would throw a fit when they found out spider had been knowingly left behind with the RDA, especially because he knew what they were capable of doing firsthand, but also because he was clearly a worse father than the man he claimed to be running from (quaritch getting a redemption arc and being 'adopted' by ronal and tonowari is my favorite thing, sorry, I just can't leave it out). spider accepts treatment from her because its na'vi medicine, it feels right to seek the Great Mother's help in fixing what the Demons did to him. this quickly turns into him getting adopted, cause ronal has taken to this small human child, and tonowari just wants to see this boy happy.

ao'nung tries to throw hands with jake. that it, he treats spider like he would any other kid, any other brother, he just tries to kill jake for letting that happen to him.

tsireya is just a gentle soul to keep him company. she is a rock in the storm, always calm and caring, always asking permission to care for him, never assuming he wants her help. she holds him steady when the world around him is chaos.

now for spider himself? he feels even more useless and like a freak then before. he feels weak for being so screwed up by what he only lets himself think of as 'a flashy spinning machine' as if it wasn't created to break him. he would hate having attention on him because why should it have taken being tortured to receive this sort of attention? was being a kid not enough, he just has to suffer first? pair that with the fact that he is so self sacrificial and quick to defend the sully's he's shameful of his own anger. he's an emotional disaster, so many different though processes mixing and fighting with each other. but most of all he's frustrated, so frustrated, in the span of a few hours he lost the one thing he had, which was trust in his body, his physical capabilities that allowed him to survive on pandora and be a 'tough' kid that burdened no one. now he needs help with basic tasks and constant supervision so he doesn't just fall down and die somewhere.

Question to the OC keeper, if my universe had a Goddess who ruled and protected women, and especially young girls, would it be alright to include a trans man in her sphere of protection? Not because he is a woman, of course, but because he stands risks of similar types of violence and discrimination. Maybe only when he's a child. Or would that be a bad thing to have regardless of how it's written? I am a cis girl myself, so sorry in advance if any of this is offensive.

see i think that stuff like that could be done well (wonder egg kind of did it! even though it was a very messy show so its hard to tell exactly what the point was...) but i also think that it would be veeeerrry easy to botch, especially if you dont have firsthand experience. and im not saying that its impossible to write for people w different experiences than you, im just saying it requires a lot more conscious effort. but youre being conscious by asking so thats good!

like you said, its tricky because it could imply that the misogyny trans men face via ppl seeing them as women is "binds" them to womanhood so to speak. and personally i think that my knee-jerk reaction to seeing that is skepticism about what the author thinks of trans people. THAT BEING SAID you could also work around this by just... also including a trans WOMAN in her sphere? i honestly would suggest doing that either way, if you want it to be clear that the goddess also stands for trans people.

but in regards to the child part: not every trans person thinks of their gender in the same terms, many people do think "i was a girl then, but now im not" rather than "i was always a man" (and sometimes its a combination of both, its complicated!). but i do think that if handled poorly the former could also translate to "since this character was a girl, then hes on some level still a girl even if he doesnt identify as such anymore" which is dangerous. the issue is that its a very very very common belief that trans men are actually just scared and confused girls who were manipulated or groomed in some way, and that they have to be PROTECTED from this terrible fate in which theyre mutilated and victimized. and since this is a /protection/ circle i think it needs to be made clear exactly what he is being protected from. it cant be just vague misogyny, because many could take it to be the former- that hes some sort of recovering victim of the trans mob forcing him to give up his divine femininity or whatever

it really would be a safer bet to make the trans character a woman, because transmisogyny is such a rampant issue and making it clear that trans women are welcome in women's safe spaces is important. that being said you could also do BOTH, like i said before. or even include cis men impacted by misogyny in other ways too, if you dont wanna make it a women's only club. if its moreso about the type of discrimination than the exact gender of the person experiencing it, i'm sure your oc wouldnt stand for any type of discrimination that hinges on the idea that things considered feminine are lesser. it could be as simple as an ostracized gay guy being treated like he's "unman", or a big cishet man who keeps all his emotions hidden for fear of being seen as weak, or a little boy who gets bullied for crying, or something. these are all just suggestions that i'm spitballing, you dont have to use them (its your story!) but it could help with not making the trans guy feel like hes either an "odd man out" or... like a hes woman. which is what you wanna avoid!

of course, if you wanna keep it generally women-only (and i still suggest including trans women in this) and you wanna depict him as a child pre-transition... i think that could work in a way. again i think its tricky, but it could be the sort of thing where, since he's a kid, he's afraid to leave the comfort of being a girl (all he's ever known so far!) in order to embark on the unknown transition into manhood. there's a lot there that's genuinely so scary. "what if i'm wrong? what if i'm not accepted? what if i lose everyone i love? what if ill always been seen as a woman anyway? how will i be safe?" and you can have it be the sort of thing where the goddess ENCOURAGES him to try anyway, and thats its okay if hes wrong, because the people who have loved and supported him so far wont stop. that he will still be welcomed and protected, not because hes a woman but because hes loved either way. that he wont lose his community over becoming a boy, and she will still watch over him. i think thats what you want to go for, right?

Besides, the real interview would be the possibility of recruiting any new blood into the Meta Liberation Army ranks (but that was another story). It came, it passed and so it was done. He personally took the time to walk around the building and get familiar with all the new hires during orientation. The only one that stood out to him in particular was you. There was something about you that he just couldn't shake. The man was no fool and he knew just when his heart was doing backflips that he wanted a possibility of being with you. From that moment on, he seemed to favor you more than your coworkers. You hadn't caught onto it as easily as some of the others did. Your new boss had the hots for you. He'd often stop by even when it didn't make sense for him to be on your floor/department. However, your little girl didn't feel the same. If anything she loved her *ahem* "Unkey Skep" the most out of the entire group. You tried everything to get her to respect his personal space but it wasn't as easy as you thought. One day she ended up pulling his hair rather roughly because she'd fallen and was trying to catch herself. He was silently fuming at her, grinding his teeth and trying not to lash out at a literal toddler. What saved her from crying (and you from apologizing) was he blurting out in her precious little voice "Unkey Skep uh-oh! Big big fall down!" He just froze for a moment and stared...Unkey Skep??? Let's chat about Ortho!

It's been a big year for Ortho, huh? Chapter 6 really was a good arc for him. And I was struggling through those battles once I heard he was going to get a school uniform. Let me tell you, that wasn't a walk in the park.

What I love about his arc is that Ortho wants to explore and learn. While he 'knows' everything, he doesn't 'know' everything, you know? Like, being an official student may seem redundant because the material is easy for him to find and parrot back. But he's never gotten to know what it's like to tutor someone. To sit and chat with his friends, skip classes, or go shopping for himself. Hell, even writing an essay on his own is new for him. Ortho is gonna have to *create* his personality. 

He's becoming an artist. Ortho joined the film club. How cool is that? How will Ortho utilize his observations on humanity and mimic that for a movie? What can he learn from the stories he performs? And what if he was given the chance to make his own script? Film it? Direct it? There's a lot of potential for him and Vil sees it in him. Ugh its so fuckin good! Imagine if he gets into fashion and makeup?! It's exactly what he needs to feel "real". 

He also fits perfectly with the first years. I've already seen yall putting him in art and it's the only thing that keeps me alive. Ortho has to help hold the brain cell since at least three of them would drop it. It's good that he's with the babies because he's learning how to have friends and can grow with them. 

His FG is so good too. Like i'm kicking myself bc i don't have it. Like…he's enjoying the things we as humans wouldn't think twice about. He said that he was considered a magical tool before. An object. That fuckin cuts deep. Like.

Imagine being created in the image of a dead child and being vulnerable to having your being changed or altered at the whims of your creator/brother. You're designed after a real boy and behave like a real boy more or less. So u get to tag along with your brother and you see people having fun, making friends, growing up and being an individual. 

But you can't be one. You aren't considered a person. You're just your brother's thing. You're a thing to them. Like, Idia already avoids school life as if it's a major inconvenience but Ortho wants it. He wants indivality and agency over his life. And he has it. He's always been a real boy, but society didn't accept it. But there's no denying it, especially when he's creating art, which involves feelings. It involves developing ideas, thoughts and emotions and putting it into something that represents you. 

He designed his own FG gear. It's an aesthetic design. He's wearing shoes in his union gear. SHOES! HE'S STEEZY AS FUCK. 

Oh oh, it's cute that he chose Pomefiore as his second dorm. Not only would he look stunning in that uniform, his interest in Rook is hilarious. I'd imagine ortho already has a habit of following or taking obsessive notes about people. So if Rook is being stalked, that just…thats cash money. 

What I want answered is why he doesn't like lighting and if that will play a part in chapter 7. It could be related to fucking with his circuitry. But I think it's trauma based. It would be groovy if it was trauma based. That'd be so good.

As ive said in my disclaimer i feel that Ortho should be seen as the student he is. We've established his intelligence level, his maturity and his agency as a character in the story. He's not a baby. While he does have a cutesy voice that throws off the audience, he would be considered 16 like his friends. Treating him like a child is doing his character a disservice because Ortho is rapidly changing and maturing. I would say he has always been fair game but the fans infantilized him to the point where they gave him the stamp of child rather than teenager. I want to see English fans take him more seriously.

Wait. ‘My favorite thing about the Witcher recasting’ does seem to imply that I have other things I like about it, lmao. Nah, I really enjoyed Cavill as Geralt, and his obvious passion for the role as well as his portrayal, so I’m disappointed to see him go. And I have no particular attachment to Liam Hemsworth or strong feelings about his acting chops one way or another, so its not a recasting that sells me on name recognition alone. 

But he’s far from the worst actor out there and I think there’s no reason to assume his portrayal can’t be engaging even if I do end up thinking Cavill played the part better, so I’m not really predisposed to hate him in the role by any means.

(The announcement of the recasting was timed well, IMO. I think it really helps that the news broke well before Season Three releases, so it keeps hardcore fans of Cavill-as-Geralt from immediately jumping ship at the news and potentially softens the disappointment, since fans can be like ‘well at least we still have him in Season Three to look forward to.’ This way people have plenty of time to get used to the idea and make their peace with it instead of having it just dropped on them not long before the season in question. The latter option makes it more likely that whether or not fans stick with the show ends up more rooted in visceral reactions than because its something they’ve actually put much thought into.)

Tbh, my only strong opinion on the subject is I hope they don’t just drop Hemsworth into the role without explanation in the Season 4 premiere and do that thing where they just expect audiences to roll with the visual changes while the show offers no acknowledgment of the transition. The Hollywood version of ‘these are not the droids you’re looking for’, lol. “Why yes, this actor has obviously been here in this role all along, there’s nothing different about him, move along now.”

I mean, I don’t mind that when there’s no possible alternative. Sometimes with recasting situations, there’s just no feasible way to make an in-universe acknowledgment of the recasting without breaking the fourth wall or something like that.

Buuuuut since we are talking about a show where magic abounds and there’s direct precedent for various characters (even important ones) to be physically altered due to curses or for some plot reason....like, I hope they do something with that. Obviously most curses on the show are aimed at transfiguring the recipient in some ‘inhuman’ way instead of just...giving them a different face, lol. Its not like there’s previously established magic-as-plastic-surgery as far as I can remember.

(Edited to add: Yeah, I literally realized my mistake here the second after I hit post on this. LMFAO. Whoops. Who just happened to forget about a fairly substantial plot point, character beat, and worldbuilding element all in one? Not this guy. These are not the droids you’re looking for, remember?)

But like. Just figure something out. Take advantage of the possibilities the genre gives you, that other shows and recasting situations DON’T have at their disposal. It doesn’t have to be central to the plot or treated as a big deal, it can be fairly handwavey, as long as there’s SOMETHING. 

Say Yennifer crafts a permanent glamour for Geralt since he’s pretty distinct and, y’know, infamous, two things which are not super conducive to flying below the radar while trying to protect a magical wonder child from being discovered and exploited. Like, even if you do such a good job of disguising her that nobody’s tracking her down in specific and you’re only constantly fending off enemies and mortal threats because they’re tracking YOU down in specific.....still not ideal for bodyguarding a kid who has the literal WILD HUNT going door to door being all ‘have you seen this long-lost descendant of a supposedly extinct bloodline of universal importance? No? How about the guy she’s with? Hair like Fabio, emotes like Bruce Wayne, pants so tight the wardrobe department just settled for painting them on instead of trying to take them off at end-of-filming every day? Shh, of course you don’t get our references, we’re from the multiverse, we’re allowed to break the fourth wall, its in our contract riders. Get it? We’re the Wild Hunt? We ride? Actor contracts have riders? Yeah, OP is hilarious, agreed.’ 

Or maybe between Seasons 3 and 4 someone DOES try and whammy Geralt with a transformation curse, and either his own innate Witcher-ness and protections or some magical shielding Yennifer manages to get around him at the last second, like, dilutes the curse enough that it still changes him, just....not how it was supposed to. Just a little bit. Teeny tiny changes only. The watered down version of the curse took it from ‘remake this man as a monstrous minotaur all will flee from in horror’ to ‘just give his chin a little nip/tuck here and round out his face a little more there, and now in theory some people might consider him marginally less attractive! Mwahahaha, that witch tried her best, but my evil curse retains its vile malevolence even at reduced potency. Now only nine out of ten random villagers will throw themselves at him when he walks by, instead of all ten. Suffer, Geralt of Rivia! SUFFER!’

I’m just saying. Possibilities. They exist.

Thinking about Justine’s role in Peace Talks/Battle Ground again and my worry that she won’t survive the series, especially with the pregnancy and Nemesis. I get why, she’s a fragile human surrounded by monsters and she isn’t even a fighter like Murphy, no one really expected her to live this long as a thrall or otherwise. 

Putting aside the potential ickiness of getting a former sex slave (Thomas may have treated her relatively well but that is how it started) pregnant and then having her die soon after so one of the male leads can have a child and be a sad boy (the series has already killed off 2 of Dresden’s LI, 3 if you count Lash).

I also just find it kinda needlessly dramatic? Thomas/Justine is already tragic. Assuming he stays WC, he’s going to outlive here. Instead of a out of nowhere magic threat, why not have it to something inherently human that results in her death? Old age, or a terminal illness. Something normal the magic folk in her life can’t fight against.

What are your hot takes/frustrations with fandom/etc. regarding the Dresden Files? I'm thinking mostly in relation to fandom/fanfic instead of book criticisms (which could be its own post).

For me: I think Harry/Marcone is an underwhelming ship for being the most common relationship on ao3. Maybe it would hit different if I wasn't lukewarm on both characters. Most of the popular elements can be found in other ships I find more interesting. (power dynamics and iffy ethics? Harry/any Raith. grudging annoyed respect to lovers? Harry/Murphy. attraction starting from rivalry? Harry/Kincaid. Harry needs a sugar daddy? I've seen a couple Harry/Odin fics.)

I get why people like the theory that Thomas is going to be cured of his Hunger and/or wield Ammorachius (they're usually tied together in theories) but it's not one that appeals to me for a few reasons:

While not every Knight is Catholic/generally Christian, the idea of it is still firmly linked to Christianity and growing up Catholic makes it feel weird in general to me. Even aside from that I think it's an odd endpoint for Thomas' arc (even if being motivated by love and guilt is a pretty Catholic thing), the Knights kinda fit awkwardly with the rest of the worldbuilding (why I've never had them in a fic). Plus why would Thomas want to pick up a Sword? He’s not written as especially religious or has a close connection to any of the Paladin-type characters. Also he’s a White Court vampire, he doesn’t exactly need a power up. 

Part of this may be because I’ve pretty firmly entrenched in my head that White Court Hunger is a (albeit messy) metaphor for generational trauma/cycle of abuse theme and having him be ‘cured’ of the Hunger feels... weird to me from that lens, especially if he’s the only one of the White Court allowed that kind of redemption(?). The Hunger feels like such an integral part of Thomas’ character, the piece of him that is monstrous but also can be used to fight other monsters, that to have that removed would make him feel less like Thomas. I think the version of Thomas that carries that burden and is fighting to do good, despite both the Hunger and his upbringing working against him, to just be more interesting overall. 

Also, I think it would be more fitting for Justine to be given a Sword. She’s not a fighter and i love that about her, but if she was given a power up then I’d prefer it to be this than whatever the Nemesis plotline in BG was. She knows exactly who and what Thomas is and she loves him despite the harm he’s done to others (including her tbh). She’s in mutual True Love with a WC vampire who are naturally allergic to love; if that doesn’t fit in with the Sword of Love I don’t know what does. Again, she doesn’t need to be a physical badass, but I wouldn’t be overly opposed to this.

Add some fruit to your morning cereal instead of choosing sugar filled ones. Buy a plain cereal and then add fresh strawberries, bananas or blueberries to get that sweetness you crave. Sugary kids' cereals will only leave you with a crash later. Fresh fruit will fill you up better and not cause you to crash later. If you really must eat a burger and fries from a fast food place because you just cannot resist, it would serve you best to get a meal that was meant for a child. Instead of getting a full size meal you can have a small burger with a small order of fries. As stated in the beginning of the article, you have to give your body the proper fuel if you expect it to perform well. If you begin to think of food as fuel for the most important piece of machinery that you own, then making the right choices becomes a whole lot easier.

Sonic Prime

Wasted potential, having a multiverse story and you use the most boring ideas that was already boring when archie comics did it in the 90s. Eggman gets shelved to make evil Tails the villain. He's badly written. Don't even talk about Sonic's writing...the 2010s was the start of Sonic being lame (and if you want to pretend Sonic was cool in Lost World or Forces, im already convinced you're lying to yourself to pretend Sonic Team never does anything inconsistent, please, they are flawed writers consider the weird retcons they make) but PrimeSonic is so far removed from gameSonic that it's laughable and then there was the ending...

It means nothing, making you think what was the point of the series? The fact the showrunners said it was canon, shows to me that Sonic team doesnt care about the lore as much as the fans do. I could ignore all of that if the show was good or enjoyable ...but its not. Its boring and so generic. But Hey Shadow is atleast cool here. 5/10

Sonic Underground

This is honesty not as well made as Prime. But unlike Prime I don't get too bored watching this. The off model scenes are hilarious and some of the songs like the opening are ..pretty nice? Badly written? Yes, this was made to promote the Sonic adventure games and nothing on the show has anything related to Sonic adventure. Who is Manic and Sonia???Sonic's siblings? Sonic is a prince?! Wait is that Athair from the archie comics?...and Where is Amy and Tails? Wth went wrong here? But you know what, it's so bad its almost good. Series got canceled without a proper ending too. But I honestly hope to see a detailed history about how the heck this series was made. Probs more intreseting then the series itself

Sonic Boom

Based on the Sonic Boom spin off that bombed super hard and DIDNT add anything decent to the Sonic franchise. Except for this TV series.

The animation is nice, but god the opening is a blatant lie. It gives you the vibe that we get some action and adventures. But the show is just a Sonic comedy with friends. Sonic Is anoyying. Amy Rose is a different character all together but name and is changed into the smart mom type in the group. Why? Sticks character and comedy gag of being paranoid gets old fast. Arround this time, the Sonic games decided to make Knuckles into a dumb dumb. Boom decided to make that trait his only trait. Boom is partly responsible for me no longer liking Knuckles anymore lol. Eggman Is again just a joke character. The salvation this show has, is its stong comedy. It's jokes about media tropes, life and the Sonic fandom are spot on. The voice acting is pretty good too.👌 if you just treat it as a comedy/parody of Sonic you end up enjoying it more.

Sonic Satam

Ngl this show has not aged well. But for what it is, it's a fine show. Sally is an enjoyable character and her chemistry with Sonic is well done. The animation is pretty good for its time and low budget. The ost isn't bad either. Robotnik is a threat here! The message this show wants to tell is pretty good. The creators had good intentions. But there are other things that bother me. The French coyote is annoying as hell. Him being a coward stops being funny after ten seconds. Why is Tails demoted to a helpless child ? And Rotor takes his place as the smart guy who is a Sonic fan boy? Why ? He just isn't as interesting as Tails. This show would have been better of if Ben Hurt made this into his own ip. The series is so divorced of Sonic's game vibe and story. Making it a nice cartoon but not a Nice Sonic cartoon. Also ends on a anoyying cliff hanger. Making this series feel so incomplete. For what it is, it's a fine series.

Sonic X

Finally a TV series based on the games! A show i loved as a child but didnt age well. Tms is normally great with their animation series but Sonic x feels half assed. I renember reading in an aniway anime magazine that during the production of the show they decided to add Chris, a child character for the western kid audience. They kinda knew this wasn't going to be a hit in Japan, and they were right, because Sonic x had such poor raitings, its last season aired in other countries, not even in Japan.

The Japanese ost is good and for the most part it got the characters right, With some exceptions of Amy Rose being flanderlized and Eggman forgetting he's a bad guy at one point. Sonic is done correctly, a jerkass, impatient, taunts his enemies without being obnoxious, not super on physical affection and Hates staying in one place. He's not the modern cape-super hero as Sonic is shown nowadays. But Sonic x's issues is that outside of the episodes based on the games, most episodes in season 1 and 2 are a bore to sit trough. Chris adds nothing to the cast and his presence hinders the overall enjoyment of the show. (Not helping that Chris steals scenes from the characters in the episodes based on the games ) Most of the human characters are quite anoyying. (Outside of Topaz and Helen, the show missed its huge chance by not making Helen the main human child in Sonic X! Super lost potential there) the anime picks up by season 3 with a new arc and introducing Cosmo. It gets intriguing! Sadly Chris is back too (just why) but two seasons with mostly mid or boring episodes is just to long to sit trough to get to the good parts.

Sonic the movie/Sonic ova

The Sonic ova that was used as a pilot for a potential Sonic anime series in the 90s, sadly the vhs copies didn't sell well in Japan and the Ova remains at 2 episodes. I'm serious when I say: Too bad. Because this is the best Sonic animated thing there is! And the only Sonic cartoon I enjoy with a rewatch. (Which is depressing because Sonic has like 7 cartoon series and this 2 ova episodes is the best ones) The animation is a feast to the eyes, the ost is super good. "Look a like"" is such a yam. Sonic is at his best here, an impatient, rude teen, that doesn't save the day to be a superhero. But does it because he feels like it. (THANK you princess Sara) there is such a 90s vibe but it aged so well! Metal Sonic is cool as heck and we get Knuckles here too! Is this very canon to the games? Not really, it takes a different route from its story of its game Sonic cd. That being said, I don't care because for what it is, it's good! I didn't get bored any second. Is it perfect? No offcourse not, it still sucks that Amy Rose isn't present here, despite Sonic cd being her introduction. Would have loved it if Amy was here. I tried some digging but couldn't find any reason to why she was removed in place for Pricess Sara, I can only assume they added Sara to appeal to boys who like cute bratty anime cat girls? 🤔 I can't really think of any other reason why Sara is here. Eggman is at times silly too and him wanting to marry Sara who Is a teenage girl is an uncomfortable 'joke" but outside òf that, Sonic ova Is a super enjoyable anime. And the only Sonic title that I put on my lost as good animated video game adaption.

I have no idea what I‘m doing with the lore

Ignoring anything related to character traits and such, The short version is:

Red: 23, ex-Hero, quit being one 2y ago, got her current scarf back then, dipped because of expectations she couldn’t/didn’t wanna meet, got a grandpa, still helps out anyone who asks.

Deniz: 20, resident from a small village set on a bunch of super high and windy cliffs, only one with complete (and functioning) family, good at sailing, left because of the sameness of each day becoming unbearable.

Mage: 23, magic merchant man, aka merchant for antiques, relics, and standard rpg shop stuff. Really good at dark magic, went way too far with it once and it tinted his eyes green, emotional attachment to scarf because of missing/probably dead friend, gold thingy in hair helps detect magic, =) is his default face (on purpose).

Yel: 24, not his actual name but a nickname from Mage, couldn’t follow his dream so he became the next best thing aka delivering stuff to hard-to-reach places, only-child with 2 parents, very good at outside stuff and basic medic things, :| is his default face (not on purpose).

Violet: 19, royalty, gifted child syndrome/burnout, really high light magic potential but it tends to be unstable/uncontrolled, was pretty much playing Rapunzel locked in her tower because of that, lots of siblings, has at least one abduction/attempted sacrificing behind her because being op + locked up + other family related stuff = rumors about her being able to bring forth the apocalypse.

And then there’s a bunch of smaller oc‘s I don’t really actively "use“ aside from maybe a drawing here or there.

The WORLD started out as/ is mostly still just "fantasy rpg but the internet is a thing“ feat. Light/Dark based magic. So it’s every fantasy setting ever but they’ve got phone signals and stuff. If it ever comes up, currency will be called El because the implications of the European Union or US or whatever existing here are kinda funny but not something I wanna deal with XD Cent is still Cent tho, that one‘s universal enough to work since it’s just derived from the word for 100. There may or may not also be a corruption infestation thing going on. Jury‘s still out on that one (as in, idk if I wanna go that far with the setting, but it’d at least fit with whatever the heck is going on in Red‘s lore).

For Magic, Light is basically giving energy to the surrounding while Dark is taking it away. So stuff like fire and ice is also part of light and dark. Because of that, light works best in dark/cold places (lots of area to brighten/heat up; you can only see stars during the night) and dark when its well lit/warm (needs light to cast shadows, lots of stuff to absorb). If someone uses too much of it over a short period of time, it can have lasting effects, usually first noticeable by a change of eye color. (Light = cold, light tones, dark = warm, Dark tones)

it keeps changing. A lot. To the point where, as of right now, they kinda don’t…have any lore? Because I‘ve essentially been throwing everything I had out of the window/got the feeling whatever‘s going on is too cringe/cliche.

Red‘s is currently the most…stable, I guess?

Did the classic "go on an adventure to save the kidnapped princess/world“ thing 2-3 years ago, because of that was knighted and officially recognized as The HeroTM (and given her current green scarf), but went into "hiding" shortly after cuz everyone had these ridiculously high expectations of what/how The Hero should do/act that she couldn’t live up to or started treating her differently, + didn’t feel like only standing there as a real life attraction could help anyone.

So Red essentially quit, and went home helping people and adventuring from there. And then ran into Violet, which happened shortly before where the timeline’s currently at. The two bells on a string acting as a second hair tie have been in her possession since childhood, and act as a good luck charm. Has a grandpa, + I‘m thinking about adding a sibling. (Also may or may not be able to hear music fitting the vibe of whatever place she’s in- still not sure about that one). That original concept still applies more or less. But as for the other oc’s…oof.

Deniz and Yel both don’t have. Much going on?

Yel isn’t his actual name but a nickname he got from Mage because his bag + hair is Yellow and his voice can be incredibly loud if he wants to. Also I just couldn’t find a fitting name. His dream had always been becoming a Ranger, but due to various things including severe shortsightedness and dumb rules, never got to fulfill it. (Outside of some basic training).Therefore became the next-best thing that‘d allow him to still be frequently outside and not be glued in a single place too much to at least sometimes take paths through forests- which was becoming a postman. Specifically for special deliveries and places that can’t be easily reached. So it’s…more of a courier thing, really?

Which is also how he came to know a lot people, including Red for kinda becoming her personal mailman during that whole adventure thing, the usual deliverer for Mage’s shop stuff, and normal post for Deniz. Without knowing it himself, is actually rather well known as the mailman guy. Got a decent grasp on first aid from that basic training. Animal and health nerd. Good at foraging. Got no siblings but 2 very precious parents (I have yet to design in any way, if at all). Ridiculous constitution. Aaaand that’s about it. Probably the most realistic but compared to all the cool oc’s people have on here idk if it’s interesting?

Deniz is even worse. His whole deal is "npc joined the party“. He‘s literally just some guy from a small village built at the top of a bunch of very windy cliffs (hence why Yel delivers stuff to them because it’s kinda hard to reach otherwise). Originally he was just supposed to be concept villager for said place, which was an idea for what a beach village would look like if the ocean didn’t just rise a bit with the tides in daily cycles but like 40m in a year. (Insert funky microclimate reasons here).

It’s still visible in the attempted beach theme in his design and name, as it means ocean (+ it’s the only one not a color pun so that’s nice). Also he‘s good at sailing because it’s the main way of reaching other places during flood. As well as handing ropes. Met Red during her travels, helped out when she needed a ride later, and decided to stick around because of exploring/curiosity/felt trapped in the circle of doing the same things everyday. Got a bunch of family, and the only one who could do a complete "holiday dinner with the whole family at grandma’s“ thing. Most of his stuff is character-based and not background lore things though. Yeaaaaaa.

Then with Mage, his present appearance is pretty clear, but the background isn’t. Merchant for antiques, relics, and standard rpg shop stuff. Really good with dark magic. Like, that one’s solid. Then it gets a bit goofy. Used to have blue eyes, but overusage of magic over a period of time tinted them permanently green now. Originally became a traveling merchant when he was 18 to be able to search for his missing friend (the blue scarf‘s a reminder/glorified friendship bracelet). But then started realizing a) he‘s most likely dead by now, and b) actually genuinely enjoys the whole merchant thing, decided to open up shop permanently. Still can’t quite let go though. Orphan from an orphanage doubling as a school focused on magic, which is how he met said dead friend (called Rhyme because the idea was both having names 1 letter away from being a herb as a parallel.) And like. That’s fiiiine I guess?

But the events between [hanging out together] to [Rhyme goes missing] to [Mage chills here now] are. SO BAD. At one point it was "boarding school is actually super shady because those with high magic potential regularly go missing while they pretend they just graduated/got adopted/decided to go away/etc., and Rhyme was the newest disappearance which makes no sense for his character so Mage went off to find out what’s going on“ to "the same thing but Mage actually found out that whole place is super shady“ spiced with "he‘s now in this country because he‘s actually from across the border so they won’t search for him“ to "the only reason they’re not coming after him is because they think he‘s dead“. And all of these have variations where the whole place burned to the ground after the basement exploded (leading to them thinking he‘s dead). And ALSO that shady business might be connected to whatever the heck is going on with Violet‘s lore. So like. The whole thing is on ice now because idk if this is really anything worth using. Idk.

And then there’s her. As if Mage wasn’t bad enough, Violets lore was…messy. Really messy.

She’s royalty, got a lot of siblings, and what is essentially gifted child burnout. Also aforementioned magic (light in her case) is super high for her but kiiinda uncontrolled, which led to her pretty much exclusively being pushed to learn streamline it, but there’s never really been much progress. This part of the lore still seems ok right now. The problem is the actual backstory that led to "now“. Because as of right now, Violet is hanging out with the others, and therefore very much not where she should be, at all. And that’s where the mess is.

The original reason for her being with the rest of the gang rn was that she was once abducted 2 years ago so she could be sacrificed to bring forth the apocalypse, and met Red during her escape. (Spoiler: there isn’t some ancient god dragon sealed in her blood or whatever probably. Just got unusually high light magic reservoir, which, combined with her always being in the background, let to people believing there’s something going on with her that warrants that secrecy.) Recently, after another attack, decided that her being missing would be better, and broke out to search for Red and hide with her. So despite being. Royalty. She‘s deliberately not going back home as she‘s "more useful" if missing, so everyone is so focused on her that it keeps any trouble away from her family since everyone will be focused on getting to her instead. (It’s totally not also because she feels incredibly trapped and knows her being gone wouldn’t actually chance much for them. Absolutely not. It’s only out of usefulness.)

That one‘s got a variation where she was abducted twice- first time saved by Red, which is when they met, second time was what happened above with her breaking out herself, and directly lead into the whole "staying missing is better“ thing. In another alternative version, that og thing didn’t happen 2 years ago, but recently, so instead of "2y ago + recent event leads to her booking it“ that 2y ago becomes said recent event.

And I‘m also thinking of just throwing everything away and rebuilding it from the ground up, but the only thing I can really come up with rn is the "royalty that definitely shouldn’t be wandering around but their knight/guard/whatever (Red) is there so it’s cool“ trope. Also if I change the lore in that regard I‘d kinda have to redesign her again (or at least clean it up a bit?)

In any case, the only story beats I‘ve kinda got down are "was abducted, kicked ass, met Red during or on the road shortly after escape, [stuff], not going back to the castle because of [reasons], road-trip ensues“.

Also I might do urban fantasy and zombie apocalypse AU‘s. Idk.

As I Said, it’s REALLY long and REALLY bad. You can laugh, point out plotholes and cliches, whatever

All of them Fear is definitely a bad one, she tends to get herself worked up and has trouble calming down even after the situation is resolved. She used to be worse at dealing with sadness too but after her mother's death she's learned to kind of numb herself to it and keep going.

For an unrealistic wish it would be to get her mother back, but realistically it would be to keep her remaining family intact and to not be alone. I think she already goes pretty far to do this (ie supporting Sadie in her revenge) but will she go farther? I guess you'll have to find out...

Rosalind's favorite is spring because the weather is usually good and she likes watching everything bloom and grow back.

If Rosalind knows better about something, she will speak up and not stay quiet simply to save face. A good example of this is when she shoots down Dewberry Creek as a potential campsite.

Oh fuck let me try to remember...I honestly don't remember when I first got the idea for her. However one of the first things i knew about her was that I wanted her to have a father-child relationship with Arthur bc 1. it was I missed opportunity in the game and 2. daddy issues lmao. Also I think I had the name Rosalind down pretty early.

🏊 SWIMMING - can they swim? or are they afraid of water? how well do they swim? how do they feel about swimming in the ocean?

Well she goes swimming in multiple chapters of BUTM so yes she can swim! I would not say she's a particularly good swimmer but she's capable enough to enjoy it and not drown. She's never swam in the ocean but before but she'd be open to trying it!

📸 CAMERA - do they enjoy having their picture taken? what's their go-to pose? do they like taking photos? what do they take photos of?

Considering the time period Rosalind does not get her picture taken very often, but she usually likes to when it does happen. Her go to pose would be a soft smile. As for what she would take pictures of...probably cool plants, animals, and landscapes she saw.

Rosalind wants to be remembered as a good person who had a positive impact on the world. Because that is who her mother raised her to be.
