Escape the Night things that keep me up at night, because there's a lot of things that keep me up at night. This show is a big one.
• The season 3 intro having Safiya holding a bloody spear.
• Revival, it brings people back from the dead, Joey was dead, and so was The Duchess. What kind of state are they in? Do they go from dead-dead to dead? Or dead to alive?
• They should have waited another season for All Stars, have two dead guests return from each season.
• Manny, Jc, and Safiya NOT being in All Stars
• Jc and Safiya's deaths
• Paramount Ranch (Where they filmed S3) burning down, how is it now? Has it opened back up?
• The Season One house being a Wedding Venue.
• The Season One House Basement.
• The Season 3 Intro going to have a Van sinking in the ground. I wanna know if it was gonna be a Scooby-Doo like van. Who was gonna drive? Does Joey still have his license?
• Those Dinosaurs from 4×9
• Tana and Lele were only 19 in their seasons. (Tana was 19 in s2)
• The s4 guests looking dramatically different compared to their og season variants (Did the Collector give them little make-overs?)
• The Ao3 Escape The Night Tag.
• The random resurgence ETN had over the summer.
• The lack of a Slasher Lieutenant in s3 (Like Jason Voorhees, Michael Myser, Ghostface, etc. The 70s were a good decade for horror.)
• How's the afterlife? What's going on there? Are they canceling each other? How do those conversations go?
• WHERE THE FUCK DID SAFIYA'S BODY GO
• This photo of Jc

OK, bringing it home with Part 3 of my in depth analysis of Episode 2 of Nancy Drew Season 4, “The Maiden’s Rage” - Part 1 and Part 2 in case you missed them.
TW: I covered Bro-Nancy’s abusive behavior and the fight in Part 2, but I may touch on DV and emotional abuse in this post too.
Seeing Nancy in handcuffs (presumably Ace’s) is a dark twist from the Ace carries handcuffs scene in S3’s The Demon of Piper Beach, and his untying of the scarf with Amanda in S2’s Moonstone Island. There’s nothing sexual about this scene - Ace starts out as far back as he can be from Nancy, his arms crossed, only coming closer after Nancy’s had the ‘Clari-tea’ and is able to explain what was going on with her.
Tumblr media
We get a little lesson on toxic masculinity, but I was a bit surprised they didn’t mention DV, which is what the show recreates so accurately as an outcome of the poison’s effect on Nancy.
Nancy explains how her feelings about Ace were locked away by the poison, leaving her with only anger. I like how they tied her real feelings to the poison. Nick then ties that anger to her wanting to dominate Ace, and Bess explains how it made Nancy aggressive. I’m not completely satisfied with that explanation as I feel there was more at work here, but I am glad they address it in some way.
Tumblr media
If you didn’t catch it, Ace’s tiny nod to Nancy acknowledging her explanation is telling. He’s come closer to her, his arms now uncrossed, and he understands what happened, but he’s not over her treatment of him yet.
Tumblr media
This scene is an instant classic. I could watch George and Nancy (even Bro-Nancy) investigating together all day. In handcuffs. It looks like George is a US Marshall with her surly captive. It’s the buddy movie we need! Also, George’s look is 🔥.
We get another gander at Tristan in this scene - he’s dreamy, shot in the most beautiful light. Nancy can’t help noticing and admitting how good he looks in that sleeveless shirt (he really does). We also get some more clues about him - he knows about his parents’ relic business but prefers the simple sea life, and he’s willing to get them the pump but needs collateral. Nancy giving him her necklace is a big deal. The fact that she trusts him with it - is that the whammy at work? Or does she already feel something more than idle attraction to the latest Horseshoe Bay heartthrob? Hmm…
Tumblr media
Back at the (Drew) ranch, we finally get the context for the M3gan trailer scene. George’s rough handling of Nancy as she protests that her behavior wasn’t really that bad made me chuckle, but the process itself was unnerving - it felt like a scene from a steampunk sci-fi show (in a good but disturbing way). I actually love how S4 is exploring new realms of the supernatural and amping up the effects. Also put the stomach pump in the growing list of antique supernatural gadgets, along with the soul splitter and Nick’s ghost goggles. From the S4 trailer I think we’ll get lots more of them (yay).
We also finally have confirmation that Ace is present in this scene (although that “what did you eat?” line still sounds like a voiceover). He again moves from the back of the group to the front with a concerned expression once Nancy purges the poison. Nancy’s heartfelt ‘I’m so sorry’ is a good start in making amends. Ace needs more, but it will have to wait as they jump back to the case, with Ace back in his hacker role.
Notice the grouping on the couch - unlike S2’s Trail of the Missing Witness (still my favorite pre-S4 episode), Nancy and Ace are separated by Bess. They look nothing so much as the parents discussing something serious with their teen daughter, who’s sitting between them with a mixture of boredom and confusion on her face.
Tumblr media
Nancy and Ace sleuthing again together makes me ridiculously happy. The energy isn’t 100% back yet - compared to say “We heard great things about your bathrooms” or “No sign of Tinkerbell?” But Ace’s “she brought these stickers” was a return to form, and this visit shows them in much better cooperation than their last visit to Logan’s when Bro-Nancy left him on the sidewalk.
George’s scene with Abbott in the hospital is so heartbreakingly good - seeing her hero fall is tough, but it helps her re-assert how important finding the truth is to her, and helping those who are affected. The intercutting of the story between Logan’s and the hospital was effectively done. Nancy’s scene with Maggie Lake is quick and gives Logan and Abbott’s victim some closure, but there are still many unanswered questions about how it all fits together with the poisoned water, the bodies, and how it fits in with Nancy’s history and the founders.
Tumblr media
I was happy to see Addy and Bess on the same page and working together on the final preparations for the dinner party. I wished we could see a little of the dinner, but in the end the important thing was that the couple is a team, and her picky parents can’t break them apart. Bess’s heartfelt hugs to them were so adorable - her sunny energy is so key to the group and the whole show. Bess might not find familial acceptance in Addy’s parents (although I bet she eventually breaks them down), but she is building something good with Addy.
Tumblr media
Nancy continues on the rounds of her apology/explanation tour. This scene with Tristan was…interesting. They are clearly building a bond. The huge clue that Tristan is adopted was almost expected, and softens Nancy toward him in a new way. I’ll have to talk more about my thoughts on his origins in a separate post. Note how Nancy gently lifts her braid for him - we’ll see it again in the Ace scene coming up.
This gesture of his putting the necklace around Nancy’s neck - it was surprisingly intimate. More so than the casual way Nancy puts the lanyard around Ace’s neck at DetectiveCon. The fact that this intimate scene, which includes more flirting over Tristan’s arms (grr) is followed by Nancy going straight to Ace’s - this season is trying to kill me, and it’s only Episode 2.
Tumblr media
The George and Nick bonding is much more satisfying. They are building such a strong foundation - maybe it will always be friendship, maybe more. The maturity we see in George in this episode is such beautiful growth, and Leah is killing it.
Nick is ready and willing to get to know Jade better, and they are too. I detect some chemistry starting between them by the end of the scene.
(Spoiler alert):
.
I’ve spotted them in the final scene that Riley shared on the last day of filming, so Jade will be here for the long haul. They are walking through the door in the clip, and their real name (Arianna) is called. Nick and George are standing next to each other in the Claw baby shower scene - so interested in how this turns out.
Tumblr media
The scene that we’ve all been waiting for. Ace’s hesitancy at the door, and his expression, make it clear he is still hurt. Nancy’s peace offering and her related joke, which of course harkens back to both the bagels from Temperance’s forecast, and the pickle jar she tried to open as Bro-Nancy, falls flat. The fact that she barrels in without an invitation makes me a little uncomfortable- the poison is worn off, yet she’s still taking a high handed approach with Ace. You can see he feels the same way in his eyes and his body language, and how he only begrudgingly closes the door behind her when Nancy offers to tell him everything finally.
Tumblr media
Nancy’s explanation is heartfelt. But Ace feeling like he has to apologize for his anger at her shutting him out doesn’t sit right with me. He had a right to ask for more, and even now Nancy blew past him and into his space. Her joking “let’s call it even” - she says she tried to kill him under the poison’s influence because he rejected her, but I don’t feel like she fully addressed both the way she treated him before, and how degrading her behavior was toward him after she was poisoned. Just a few extra lines here would have gone a long way IMO to make this part of the scene more satisfying.
Ace’s “Yeah” and his lightening the mood by asking for good things that he can look forward to, and his “Well, everything” - swoon. Nancy’s toying with her braid as she gazes at Ace on the bed, separated by a visual divider line, gives such a “teenage girl with a deep crush” vibe. It’s such a sweet ending, and I am confident that Nancy and Ace’s relationship will grow stronger from this experience, and help them weather what I’m sure are going to be harrowing times, and possibly times where they can’t or won’t interact, and turn to others for comfort (ouch).
Overall this was an incredibly deep episode with a lot of nuance, along with amazing acting, comedy, and overall writing and production. I would have liked to see a bit more discussion in Nancy and Ace’s final scene before we got to the incredibly romantic ending, and I wish there was a trigger warning at the beginning of the episode - but I do appreciate how well the writers responded online to the feedback.
I am out of my mind for Episode 3 tonight. The show creators are hyping it up mightily. I’m expecting amazing progress and some heartbreak before the end. Talk to you on the other side!

louis, clementine, jane and kenny for the character opinion bingo 🙏
RAAAAHHHH LETS FUCKINGG GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
louis
Tumblr media
im doing these in ms paint dont make fun of me BUT LOUISSSim in love with him top 10 f/o of the over. oh my god. LOUIS GETS a *little* done dirty by the fans but in general hes really beloved and i am grateful for that. i love him. he is so the EVER im so excited to start s4 literally just for him i am obsessed with this guy hes the silliest billiest of the ever my life
clementine
Tumblr media
CLEMMMM one of my fav characters honestly... also i checked off adoption papers but best friend bestie papers also work. SEE i was playing s3 w max and he was like "im a clementine apologist" and im NOT her moral greyness in s4 IS MY FAVORITE FUCKING THING EVEERRRRR mcarrol ranch. RAHHHHH OH MY GODDDDD all my thoughts about her are, to be completely fair, recycled thoughts from much more competent anaylitcsists (thats not a word but i dont care) BUT still i could regurgitate those recycled points for HOURSSS i love her sm. ALSO she doesnt REALLY work better as part of a dynamic im moreso referencing her parallels with aj and lee GGRAAAAAAHHHH LEE AJ PARALELL im very easily pleased.
jane
Tumblr media
hmmm janeee... this is where my popular opinion differsss. ok so my thoughts on kenny (this isnt about kenny but kennys impportant when talking abt my feelings on jane) rlly shifted when i watched the video "we dont talk about kenny" or some shit BASICALLY making the claim kennys role in s2 is that of an abusive stepfather. i didnt agree w all their points but its what shifted my view on kenny. (altho my view on kennys shifted AGAIN after playing s2 but youll see that in a sec) when it came to jane tho a lot of the comments were complaining that jane was "just as bad", and the vid doesnt mention her enough. so thats the belief i adopted
UNTILLL i played s2 and thought. no. no shes not nearly as bad as kenny imo. jane has commitment issues forged by trauma which is why shes hesitant to connect w the group and leaves on impulse. she knows what its like to get hurt. but the fandom constantly mischaracterizes this as jane not caring about anyone but herself (probably cuz kenny said it... just sayingg....) and that pisses me off. you cannot claim jane, who killed someone who wasnt directly attacking her the first time for clementine, who pulled clementine out of the ice and was the most concerned with saving her life, who came back after being 2009 emo furry levels of a loner just for clementine didnt care about clementine. she totally did!! she was real with clementine, warning her about love and loss to protect her.
shes totally not justified at all in ep 5 tho. and shes not justified in everything she does! ever! shes morally grey and i like her but i think it just comes back to the ass writing of s2. they wanted a conflict between luke and kenny (new vs old family) but then were like "shit how can we kill one of them!" and decided to bring hotheaded, flaky jane in to KILL A BABY so she would be on the same moral playing field as kenny. which she ISNT thats DEFINITELY A LOT WORSE!! so of COURSE a lot of people hate jane. but idk i think shes mischaracterized a lot which leads to hate for the wrong reasons. it almost feels kinda?? misogynistic at times?? people who are adamant kenny, who has violent rage fits due to his trauma, is justified in doing so but jane being emotionally distant, or dare i say, "a bitch" bc of her trauma is out of line... i see yall...
kenny
Tumblr media
ayyy bingo!!! oh i got bingo on jane too i just didnt notice oops. OK so kennys section is gonna be as long as janes so before i ramble about that i wanna clarify the dynamic part: kennys whole thing is loyalty and i think his best moments are when hes with other people. theres not one specific kenny + another character dynamic i like, i just think kenny is best when hes w people.
kenny... clenches fist. i mentioned in my jane rant how the "why we dont talk about kenny" video changed my perspective of him. and yeah! it did! i dont like kenny in s2 specifically. i think they fucked up his character for the sake of pointless angst and where we couldve gotten an arc about cycles of trauma or healing or literally just kenny-based-fanservice instead we got a pissing competition between him and jane of who could take out their trauma on the other more violently. kenny particularly gets me bc personally, im a big doormat! i walk on eggshells for people. s2 kenny is the type you need to walk on eggshells for. and thats not healthy. i think kennys statement about jane in the truck is wrong, and i think hers is wrong too, but... i mean shes a LITTLE right. the people around kenny ARE scared of him. he (I THINK) recognizes his actions to clementine but seemingly doesnt take an effort to really change them... he just mopes around and then beats up teenagers. its exhausting.
but i dont think its right to call kenny an abusive stepdad. hes not as bad as i expected, to be frank. hes just really poorly written. he is in heavy grief over his familys death, and theres something that can be done with that, but it isnt. he stagnates until it escalates to a final confrontation- which would work in theory if the confrontation wasnt over the death of an infant, like regular kenny would still totally kill her ITS BABY MURDER IT DOESNT WORKKK- and ends. at least closed-off jane opens up occasionally, she isnt totally stuck at the same point like kenny is. kenny recognizes his problems, but when hes with people he acts the same. itd be like if jane kept telling clementine "i think i will open my heart and be less afraid to accept people into my life" and then left the group again. i could probably say more but ive been typing this for like an hour at least im gonna end it here. kenny my beloved but also i hate you
(altho one thing i do love abt kenny is how no matter what ending u choose he assures u it was the right choice... i think thats sweet. just bc im a big kenny critic doesnt mean i dont still have a big attachment to him)
anyways w/ all this out of the way please note these are all my opinions if anything is inaccurate dont come at me... im simply sharing my perceptions of my favorite little game

Crushed; Reader x Spencer
warnings: mentions of torture, rape, possible death
summary: the one time you take off a case and your boyfriend goes, he ends up as a hostage inside of a violent, religious cult
based around S4, E3 timeline “Minimal Loss”
Vacation time. An unknown concept of a job for an FBI agent, especially a BAU member. Every day, the air was sick with energy and adrenaline as the constant cases flooded in.
Of course, as you looked down at your wrapped up foot that had been itching like crazy for the past five and a half weeks, you realized how boring vacation was. Especially when your boyfriend had gone back to work, even though he hadn’t wanted to.
But his job needed him and his brain more than you needed him to give you a massage every five minutes and follow you around like a lost puppy.
Always a conference call, neighborhood serial killer, an issue with the public media, or the occasional terrorist kept everyone on their toes, and it was addicting. How or why would anyone ever want to leave?
Sure, seeing a dead body at least twice a month, or the occasional fear of being taken as a hostage was always there. The fact that your life was more at risk than others, or that it was more common to get shot than not on the daily?
Again, good reasons. But that was what kept you coming back day after day.
You were 25, having joined the BAU three years ago, and like the adrenaline junkie you were with a thing for men in uniform, you fit right in. Not to mention your team that was more of a family then your biological relatives, and your wonderful boyfriend and now fiancé Spencer Reid.
He was 30, with a baby face, sharp jawline, and curly brown hair. He was a doll baby, sweet and sensitive but could take down someone if he had to. You two were just perfect for each other, and it was obvious to everyone who saw you two in the same room.
You gravitate towards one another, smiling, winking playfully, giggling, and playing footsies. You two were like small children with one another… best friends and the love of each other’s lives.
Just two nights ago, he had proposed to you after 15 months, 2 weeks, and four days of being together (you knew this thanks to your lover boy computer), so you had given him the obvious answer.
Some would have said that you were moving too fast, but that was just the life of a federal agent who put their lives on the battlefield for the sake of others on a regular occasion. Never once had you questioned him being your soulmate, and you never would.
After him being kidnapped and shot multiple times, and you being raped and tortured horribly on separate occasions, life just was too precious for you to beat around the bush. Plus, even
Rossi said that he knew what a failed relationship looked like, and that failed relationships didn’t cook with one another, draw faces on each other while sleeping, or put their lives at risk for one another.
Again… soulmates. :)
Maybe that was why you had been so happy when you had taken a pregnancy test just minutes ago and had now found it positive. You ran to the couch, trying your best to ease your broken foot that was so close to healing.
Grabbing your phone, you opened it to dial your boyfriend’s number when the tv in front of you caught your attention. You always kept the News on when Spencer was gone, fearing you’d miss something. Plus the missing people reports and traffic jams in your city were no news to you.
“Here I am, right outside of an underground facility in La Plata County, Colorado that is said to be hospitalizing a cult. Among the cult are women, children, and three child services agents held hostage who went in earlier to do a wellness check. Federal units are doing their best to get everyone out safely but so far the progress has been minimal. I will have more on this story as we continue this.”
You stopped cold, remembering JJ give the evaluation of the case to everyone just hours before you had to say goodbye to the team. It was a call from a teen girl about underage marriages and Cyrus, the cult leader, taking advantage of his young, female followers. The cult was on a ranch, and was its own society basically.
You had wanted to go, but had been told to stay home by everyone on the team. Spencer had wanted to stay with you, but he was a valuable part of the plan. He was to go with Pretniss and a real child services agent to disguise themselves and not cause any panic. But now… He was a hostage.
You dialed Garcia’s phone, knowing that she would be the one most likely to have their phone and not be preoccupied, although that was already a long stretch. Fortunately though, you remembered that you were Garcia’s third favorite person after her boyfriend and Morgan.
“Thank you for calling Fairy Godmother and Gizmos, your fairy godmother speaking.” She chimed in, sounding stressed but like she was trying to put on a brave face. “Hey, it’s Y/n. I’m sorry to call like this but I need to know what’s going on.”
You could head typing on her keyboard before she cleared her throat. “Alrighty, here’s what we know but it’s not much. Reid and Prentiss went in with another agent to check out the call and then there was a raid we weren’t aware of. Right now, they don’t have any reason to hurt any of them. I- What? Oh god, oh god.”
You suddenly became terrified, screaming into the cell phone as your eyes laid glued onto the tv screen. “Garcia? What? What is it?” You asked as you heard her heavy breathing on the other side. “Hotch gave me access to their radio so I can listen in, and… they just… Oh my god.” You hated the pause, wanting to both hug and kill her in that moment.
“One of the agents got hit in the raid, but they’re not saying which one. Hold on, I’ll forward you to Hotch.” You heard her clicking her keyboard even more. “Oh and Y/n? Whenever you get in touch with our boyfriend, tell him I’m going to kill him if he doesn’t come back in one piece.”
“Not if I do it first.” You heard Garcia chuckle at your response, but you didn’t feel like smiling even though she was trying hard. Spencer was in danger. You stayed on the phone until you heard Rossi’s deep tone.
“Hello? Agent Rossi.” He picked up on Hotch’s phone, and for a second you thought Hotch was in trouble too. “Rossi! I… I need you to tell me what’s going on. The news isn’t giving me anything and I… I don’t know what to do. I knew I should have come.” You began crying, letting the hormones control you.
“Hey, listen to me. Reid needs you strong. We all do. Reid is in there, but we have no reason to think he’s been injured.” He tried to explain, but it didn’t help the tears streaming down your face. “What about Cyrus? He said one of them got hit.” You heard a sigh from Rossi and began crying even more.
“Yes, the agent Pretniss and Reid went in with died. But it wasn’t the cult’s doing. I don’t think they’re going to hurt him.” Rossi tried to make you feel better, and he did, but it only gave you more questions.
“What do they want with them?” You asked as Rossi sighed. You could tell he was just at a loss like you were. “If we get the women, children and our agents out, Cyrus knows that we will have no reason to hold back. He has to keep them alive or else he’s as good as dead.”
“Just… bring him home Rossi. All of you better be at the agency tomorrow at 7 on the dot. Please. I’ll call you back if I hear something happens.” You began to hang up before you heard Rossi chuckle lightly. “Yes mam.”
You sighed in relief as you grabbed a pillow and hugged it against your body, squeezing it tightly. All the times you had taken Spencer for granted, telling him to go to work and not waste his time with you.
Now, all you wanted was to be in his arms. You wanted to comb through his hair with your fingers and give him a massage for once. Did he know how much you loved him? Did he know how obsessed you were with him? How you would trade places with him right now without a second thought.
God, you should have gone. Fuck your bad foot, you could stand there and watch. You could watch a building from a safe distance like all of them were doing. You could even go in, and maybe they would take it easy on you and not suspect anything if they saw you were injured.
Anything was better than having your one and only in a building of armed, mentally disordered people with secrets and something to die for. You gripped the pillow tighter, and began silently crying again. You just wanted him there. Was that too much to ask?
Finally, the News updated. “Live from the source. After speaking with the federal agents, it is known that one of the two alive hostages right now is an FBI agent. I am looking right now at the ranch, which is circled with SWAT vehicles. We can only hope that this won’t be the bloody battle it’s leading up to.”
You froze, dropping the remote and watching the back of it snap off, sending the two batteries rolling across the floor in opposite directions. Your immediate reaction was the call Rossi, and with your hand shaking, that’s exactly what you did.
“We saw Y/n, we saw. I don’t know how they knew that but it’s… it’s not good.” Rossi confessed. losing your attention for a minute. “H- Is he going to die? Are they going to kill him? Rossi answer me!” You yelled into the phone, hearing muffled yelling but no answer.
“I’ve got to go Y/n. I’m sorry. I’ll call you back when any of us can talk.” And he hung up on you, leaving you feeling empty and alone on the couch that you had once sat on with Spencer, in the apartment you both paid for. You glanced at your stomach and sighed, putting your hand on it.
It looked normal now, but in just weeks it would become obvious. When would you take off work? When would you tell the team? Who would be the godfather and mother? When would you tell Spencer? Would you ever even be able to tell Spencer?
No. You slapped your hand. You can’t think like that. You have to be strong. For Spencer. For yourself. For everyone.
You held your legs to your chest and put your phone down, staring at the tv and then at your phone. Please give me an update. Please give me something.
Hours passed, and although the News did hourly updates, the only change was that it was now nighttime. Finally, you picked up your phone and dialed JJ, knowing she’d be updated on everything and possibly free.
“Y/n? How are you holding up?” She asked, and you again were reminded why JJ was the BAU’s voice to the public. Her soft voice could almost convince you that your boyfriend and team’s life wasn’t at risk.
“Nobody is answering my calls and I’m so scared JJ. I… Just tell me straight. Please.” You explained as you heard her sigh on the other end. “Reid and Pretniss were questioned and Pretniss confessed that she was the FBI agent. She got beat up pretty bad.”
You felt relieved, but also guilty for feeling such. Poor Emily had confessed to save your boyfriend from a painful fate, and you would remember to give her a nice gift if and when she came back.
“They gave us almost half of their people, and we don’t know why. Right now, we think they’re going to commit mass suicide. There’s no evidence that they’re going to hurt Reid. Just… Just relax.” JJ tried to comfort you, but you still felt uneasy.
“I just… I…” You stared at the tv as they were doing another hourly update. It looked like nothing had changed. That was, until a large light hit your tv. You put on your glasses with regret of taking your contacts out, and then stared at the tv screen in horror.
A large explosion replaced where the church had sat, and it took a moment to register that the explosion had been the mass suicide JJ had just told you about. “Oh my god!!” You screamed, dropping your phone as you raised your hands to your mouth.
“Y/n? Y/n? Answer me!” You heard the phone click as JJ hung up, but you didn’t care. You stared at the tv, and couldn’t help but feel your heart drop. Spencer was inside. Pretniss was inside. JJ would have told you if either of them had come out. He would have called you surely.
“N-No.” You stuttered, unable to grasp the concept that he was gone. He was hurt. He was… dead. No… You were about to cry out, but your phone began buzzing, snapping you out of it.
You grasped it slowly and brought it to your ear with your shaking hand. “Hello?” You spoke, feeling your voice quiver from the sobs threatening to come out. “Y/n? It’s Hotch.” You nodded, realizing the let down when you realized it wasn’t Reid, but your boss.
“Everyone is okay. I just called to tell you that.” You froze, just holding the phone without noticing the man on the other line trying to get your attention. “What time are you getting to the airport?” You asked, already getting your shoes on.
“Six thirty, why?” Hotch asked, but you had already hung up. You fixed your hair, put in your contacts, and grabbed the keys, ready to go.
The car ride to the airport was long, but the wait inside the building was even longer. Every minute felt like an hour, and every brown-haired man in the building looked like Spencer from afar. You just needed to see him. You wanted to see him.
You would have called him or texted him, but you now knew he was on a plane, and you just had to wait.
Finally, though, six-thirty came, and you prayed that Hotch would stick to his word like every other time. You waited at the gate, and after checking it three times in five minutes, you knew you just had to play the waiting game of misery. Around you, airport security and employees gave you pitiful glances as you paced, sniffled, and tried to hold yourself together.
Slowly though, you began to sink into your seat and drift off into a light sleep, only to be awakened by your boyfriend. “Hey Baby.” You murmured before closing your eyes again.
Wait.
“Oh my God, Spencer!” You jumped up and wrapped your arms around him, dangling like the shorty you were. “I… Oh my… I hate you so much.” Spencer laughed lightly, feeling your grip around him tightly. “I… I thought you died. I thought… I’d never see you again.” You began crying, finally letting all your emotions resurface. You felt his grip on you tighten as he lowered you back to your feet.
“You were inside and then I saw the bomb and I-” The tears kept you from talking as you buried your face into his chest. “I hate you so much.” You whispered, holding onto his shirt tightly. “Don’t ever leave me again. We need you here.” You looked up at him as he stared at you with confusion. “We?”
You patted your stomach and grinned slyly. “I-I’m pregnant.” You confessed, watching his eyes light up with happiness and surprise. “Y-You’re kidding. That’s… Oh my god!” He looked overjoyed, lifting you up by the waist and twirling you around.
“I’m going to be a Dad!” He shouted, the few other people around the terminal giving applause. “Oh my gosh, there’s so much to do. So much to buy. So many people to tell. I have to read all those parenting books!” Spencer began to pace around before you brought him back to reality with a hug. “Just kiss me to start.”

When he discovers the deep, haunting secrets she keeps from the world, can he handle the truth or will it cost him his heart and even possibly, his sanity?
Through The Ghost:  Damon, a carefree soldier & Elena, a no-nonsense physical therapist at an Army base met under ordinary circumstances. Stuck between attraction and resistance, they struggled to define their relationship until fate made the decision for them. 4 years later a heartbroken Elena battles to make good on a promise when she discovers nothing but the shell of the only man she's ever loved.
Maybe Less, Maybe a Little More:  Vampire Damon and Human Elena meet in a snowstorm. He wants to kill her and she is instantly attracted to him. What will happen over the next ten years? Fic for the A2A x-mas exchange. Non-canon, Oneshot, Delena endgame, rated M for sexual content and some gore. ENJOY THE DRAMA MYLOVES! :D
Do You Believe In Angels:  "Damon?" She asked. He looked at her, waiting. She took a shaky breath, "Do you believe in angels?" "No," he said, "Not anymore." . . AH/AU: Two children with tragic pasts meet at a refuge. Hurt and alone, they clinge to each other to survive. This is their story, and everyone involved along the way.
Alcohol:  Damon's drunk and she looks like Katherine. Elena's drunk and he smells like Stefan.
Memory Serves:  Elena accidentally asks for her soul mate. What happens when magic delivers 1864 Human Damon? How will the Vampire Salvatore brothers deal? Vampire Damon is tortured by intimate memories of Elena. He feels so close yet far away from her. AU1x14 - COMPLETE -
Desperate Love:  A whole different version of Season 4, without sire bonds or dead brothers. A meditation on the nature of love, free will and morality in an imperfect world, through: suspense, romance, steam, angst, and friendship. Tons of Delena as well as Stefan/Caroline/Klaus, Jeremy and Ric, too. Lemons!
The Valentine’s Day Corruption of Damon Salvatore:  This is my fic in response to the prompt by Ciara 2531 for the A2A Valentine Exchange on Live Journal. As always, it's rated M for a reason...
The Best Man: Damon and Elena meet at a wedding, which ends hotter than anyone would have thought.
Insanity Is Beautiful:  They called him crazy, insane even. People feared him and avoided him at any cost, even in the asylum. So what is Dr. Elena Gilbert supposed to do when she not only takes this insane monster as a patient, but falls in love with him, and him with her? (this one is only this low on the list because it’s incomplete)

IS SHE A NATIONAL HABIT? and OTHER PRESS
December 19, 1965
Tumblr media
On Sunday, December 19, 1965, the TV Tab supplement to the Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle, published an article by UPI’s Vernon Scott about the staying power of Lucille Ball.
The article is reprinted verbatim below, with direct quotes from Lucille Ball in bold and italics.
Tumblr media
By VERNON SCOTT, HOLLYWOOD (UPI)
"Institution" is an unflattering term for beautiful redhead, but it fits Lucille Ball who, after 14 years in television, is still among the top 10 in the ratings.
Mention "Lucy" in the civilized world, and people everywhere know who you're talking about.
Lucy's unprecedented longevity as a television comedienne is all the more remarkable in that she began as a starlet in "Roman Scandals" with Eddie Cantor back in 1933.
Remarkable because she alone among her contemporaries is still a major star. The life span of starlets is usually five years. If a girl can act, she may survive for 15 years. But once a starlet's measurements have been exploited and her youthful beauty fades she dissolves into the scenery on the back lot.
But Lucy? She's been going strong for 32 years.
Her figure is terrific. Better than most of this season's sex kittens. On screen she appears a youthful 35. In person her features are animated, her blue eyes brimming with mischief and intelligence.
What's more, Lucy has survived on the strength of her own comic genius. When she and Desi parted it was predicted Lucy couldn't carry on alone. Wrong. The same was said when Vivian Vance departed last season. Wrong.
"The Lucy Show" title says it all. She stands alone.
Asked how she managed to go on and on, Lucy said: "My personal life may have something to do with it. I've almost always enjoyed good health. I take care of myself. I don't drink. I'm happily married, and I don't let work interfere with being a good wife and mother.”
Is she, indeed, an institution? "I never thought it unflattering to be an institution. The idea appeals to me. I credit the steadfastness of my viewers for my longevity on television. I've become a national habit.”
"And children love my show, too. I think people began tuning in to the old 'I Love Lucy' show because Desi and I were married on-screen and off. It was different. We had strong audience identification with other married couples.”
"Later when Vivian and I carried on as a couple of women trying to raise kids without a man around, we still had a great deal of identification with a large segment of the population.”
"We also knew what not to do. We kept away from vulgarity, distasteful subjects and unwholesomeness."
Lucy still failed to touch on the element that makes her such a popular favorite. She doesn't really know. Perhaps no one does.
I think it is that she is the only comedienne who combines humor sometimes outlandish clowning with beauty, sex appeal and, most Importantly, femininity. Even with her hair frowzed, her face dirty and clothes in tatters she looks like a female should look.

The TV Tab also provided listings, including one for a Monday, December 20, 1965 repeat of “The Lucy Show” episode “Lucy in the Music World” (TLS S4;E3) first aired on September 27, 1965.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in Iowa’s The Courier on December 19, 1965, TV critic Ken Murphy wrote about Milton Berle and Lucille Ball, the king and queen of TV comedy.
Tumblr media
Murphy is talking about “Lucy Saves Milton Berle” (TLS S4;E13) first aired on December 6, 1965.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Long Beach (CA) the Evening News and Independent-Press-Telegram Tele Vues took a look at Lucy’s partner in crime, Gale Gordon with this article from Bert Resnik’s column Bert’s Eye View:
Tumblr media
IF SANTA CAN FIND it in his heart to forgive the on-screen, blowhard shouting of Gale Gordon, television's meanest man could have the following in his Christmas stocking: A drill-press, a shaper-planer and a band-saw.
Gale, who currently is flipping his lid as blustering banker Theodore J. Mooney on CBS-TV's Monday "The Lucy Show," is a do-it -yourselfer magna cum laude.
He does it himself on a 100-acre ranch in the San Ysidro Mountains near Borrego Springs.
It is doing that utilizes a 37-horsepower, 4-wheel, lightweight tractor that Santa, in the guise of his wife of 28 years, Virginia, gave to him a previous Christmas.
It is more than just a tractor to Gale.
"It is therapy for me," he said.
In addition to the therapeutic tractor, the hoped-for drill press, planer and handsaw, Gale has a cement-mixer (an anniversary present) and numerous tools.
"I can work all day long mixing cement and to me this is the same as going to the opera for some people. It's completely relaxing."
THERE IS NO therapy for Gale in bombastically blowing his top onscreen. He's not knocking it, mind you. Just don't get the idea that it's the best way to prevent ulcers - not that Gale has one.
He enjoys the flip-wigging for two reasons: It gets laughs and it brings money.
Both have been coming quite persistently since, as Mayor La Trivia in the "Fibber McGee and Molly" era, he hollered his first roof down.
On television he's blustered as the meany school principal in "Our Miss Brooks," was Uncle Paul in the "Pete and Gladys" series and served a stint as Mr. Wilson for "Dennis the Menace."
It is blustering, incidentally, that highly challenges Gale's acting abilities.
For off-screen, he's the opposite kind of man.
"People who exhibit temper are very disagreeable," he said. "I don't like to be disagreeable.”
"By nature, I'm a very placid person. Very little disturbs me."
In his 43-year-career, Gale learned by observing more temperamental show-business personalities that: "Temper is such a waste of time."
It is a career that has been marked by an appearance in the 1928 silent movie, "Temptress," with Greta Garbo.”
"She's the most ethereal and beautiful creature I've ever seen in my life," he said. "Her ability is in the tremendous appeal she has for the audience."
It is a career that included a radio role as, leading man in "The Mary Pickford Show” in the 1930s. "She was very charming, very considerate."
Eve Arden, the title star of "Our Miss Brooks," has "no equal" in her style of sophisticated comedy. Miss Arden, Gale and other members of that television series' cast "were a family."
It is Lucille Ball, however, with whom Gale finds it most stimulating to work. "I admire her above all women her ability, her knowledge of theater and for a very keen sense -- an instinct, actually -- of what will p!ay funny to an audience.”
"I'd rather be a supporting player for Lucy than be a starring player myself under any of the most favorable conditions.”
Tumblr media
The Honolulu (HI) Star-Bulletin printed this brief mention on December 19, 1965, regarding children of celebrities going into show business.
Tumblr media
While across the Pacific, in The San Francisco (CA) Examiner, columnist John J. Miller reported on Lucille Ball’s day in tax court.

Nick’s s4 arc doesn’t make much sense to me.
Cut for spoilers, even though Fear is going into it’s 6th season.
I really don’t understand Nick’s arc in s4, it doesn’t even really feel like Nick anymore... Especially coming off S3.
In the finale, he’s very much set to die. He does not intend to survive the dam, and I’m pretty sure he didn’t want to; even after Walker’s men intervened, he still blew the dam and made no attempt to get off it as it crumbled. He even directly calls it his suicide note.  We already know from the past seasons, he doesn’t particularly have a fear of dying. There are times when he doesn’t want to (during the shootout at the ranch, he almost seems shocked to find himself saying he doesn’t wanna die) but he never seems terribly afraid of it. Yet in S4, he has PTSD because of the Dam. You could say he’s afraid of how he felt at the time, that he was willing to go that far, but that’s not what it seems like. It seems like he’s traumatized by the near-death experience. Twice in the show, he pulls the “coulda, woulda, shoulda” line, and I’m fairly certain his OD in the premiere isn’t the first (it’s at least not the first time he could have/should have/would have died.) He’s flippant about his other near-death experiences. He even tells Troy he’s suicide proof.
Then there’s his relationship with Madison. After she kills Troy, he’s pretty fcking mad at her. Goes as far as to accuse her of wanting to kill him, and thinks she may still want to/almost expecting her to. I can understand him wanting to make sure she and Alicia get to safety in the Zodiac, he’s not heartless and she’s still his mom, but he’s still not happy with her. The night at the Bazar with Troy, he walks into a horde of zombies, saying he can’t go back to her, and then follows through on that by deciding to stay.  But he acts fine with her in s4. He even outright tells her he thinks he was afraid of leaving the Diamond because it meant being away from her, and that she always has shown him the way, and found him when he got lost.  I don’t have an issue with him finding comfort in being at the Diamond, he says in s2 that he wants it all to stop. But being that attached to her, after how mad he was at her a few months ago? It just felt... weird.
Finally there’s Luci. She left him, with very little of a goodbye and wasn’t brave enough to even say it to his face. She leaves a short little note and then she’s gone. He doesn’t appear to be overly broken up by it, the only time we see him show much emotion at all is when Troy brings her up and Nick gets snippy. But now she’s come back in s4, and everything’s kosher. Maybe not 100%, because there are two times, in both the past and present timeline, where he tells Alicia to make sure Luciana comes back and they make it clear he’s referring to the fact she’s walked away before. Other than that, they’re fine. They’re together, they’re living together, all that jazz. Is it possible it was rockier in the past when she first came back? Sure. We don’t get it referenced much, or see it. All we hear is that Madison says she brought her back.
I just... really don’t know what they were doing with Nick at the end. He seems so different, and it seems like s3 didn’t even happen. The fact he’d also befriended Troy, and got pretty damn close with him.. and his name isn’t even mentioned once? Nick YELLED at Madison about the fact she killed Troy, and he doesn’t have anything, whatsoever, about Troy now?
Maybe it makes sense to some people, but I’m glad Frank asked off the show when he did, cause it seemed like they were kinda destroying his character.

Ey yoooo! You're art is amazeballs! I'm in AWE of your mad skillz, &hello my fellow TWDG!DuckLives AU fan?!? I'm not the only one who wishes that?!? Also, wild concept but, what do you think an AU where Both Duck & Sarah survive to continue traveling with Clem &AJ would be like? Sarah in S3? S4? How would things change or stay the same d'ya think?
Hey there, anon! Thank you so much! ♥ I’m glad you like my AU!
That’s a really good question actually. I hadn’t thought into it very much, but now that you’ve mentioned it, Sarah would be a very interesting character to see develop and grow, especially with both Duck and Clem around.
Here’s some headcanons for you! ♥(I got kinda carried away with this so there’s quite a lot, I hope you don’t mind fuhishfufhs)
By the end of season 2, Clementine’s relationship with both Sarah and Duck would change drastically based on whether she shoot Kenny or let him kill Jane, and so would their character developments from them on.
They’re both appalled if you choose to shoot Kenny. Since Sarah had developed a good bond with him, and Jane always regarded her as a liability, she would be taken aback by Clementine choosing to save Jane out of the two, especially after what she’d done to AJ. The scene would also bring her back the traumatic memory of what happened to her father, giving her an anxiety attack, as Duck mourns over his father’s dead body and confronts Clem about what she’d done. In this scenario, Duck and Clem’s relationship is greatly damaged for the time being, but can be restored later as Duck gets older and understands why Clementine made that call.
If you chose to let Kenny kill Jane, Duck is relieved, albeit shocked by what his father had done. Sarah is frightened of Kenny’s ruthlessness, and is distrustful of him from then on. You aren’t given the opportunity to leave Kenny behind, but you can still go into Wellington without him later.
A while later, into season 3, Clementine cuts some of Sarah’s hair for safety, like Lee taught her to.
Sarah lost her glasses while fleeing from a pack of walkers, so her vision isn’t as good as it used to be and she’s struck with dizziness constantly, another factor to keep her away from fights most of the time.
If Clem and the others stayed with Kenny instead of going into Wellington, he not only teaches Clementine how to drive, but also teaches Duck how to properly handle a rifle, which he picks up surprisingly fast. Before dying, he also teaches him how to hunt.
As age comes to him, Duck quickly abandons his loud, childish ways, and becomes a strong survivor and a cunning marksman. Kenny jokes that his little duckling is now flying off the water.
Kenny also teaches all of them how to properly handle a baby and all the care needed to keep AJ healthy and happy. Even though it takes a while for her to pick up on everything - and to be able to even carry AJ without getting a bit panicky -, Sarah loves looking out for him once she gets the hang of it. It takes her mind off of everything else going on around her, and they can all agree she looks like a complete different person when she allows herself to relax, picks AJ up in her arms and gives him cute baby talks.
Being older than Clem, Sarah is the first one she could possibly confide to when she ‘starts bleeding’. Sarah is a little (and by a little I mean utterly) embarrassed to talk about that, since she wasn’t ever given a proper explanation on why that happened to her either, but she tries her best to convince Clem that it’s not a big deal - it’s just a bit gross and painful.
When they tried to scavenge the New Frontier’s medicine for AJ, Sarah didn’t take part in it. Despite how much she loved AJ, the thought of going against their rules was beyond her. Of course, she wouldn’t tell on them, but she wouldn’t go along with their plans either.
Sarah was reluctant to leave The New Frontier after Clementine and Duck were kicked out for stealing their medicine. She didn’t want to live out in the woods anymore; without food, or water, or safety, and wanted a place to call home - and to stay with AJ in his final moments. She tried to convince them to take them back, but of course they wouldn’t listen.
Sarah attempts to escape with AJ once she realizes he’s alive and well, and that the illness is gone. The New Frontier catches her in act, and questions her for her treachery. They’re both left at the McCaroll Ranch, not long after.
When Clementine and Duck meet the Garcias, Duck gets to experience what it feels like to be jealous for the first time in his life, as he can’t get over Clem and Gabe’s strangely close bond and tries to step in the middle of it at every given opportunity. He blames it on protective sibling instinct, since he didn’t see Clem under a romantic light.
Come season 4, Clem and Duck have reunited with both AJ and Sarah at the ranch. Duck’s hunting has managed to keep them alive for a good while, even though they need to raction their food very strictly in order to stay alive.
Sarah is nearing young adulthood, and is now more secure of herself and can manage her emotions better, even if anxiety still strikes her more often than not. She can now kill walkers with more ease when necessary, and has a small knife as a weapon of choice; sharp enough to kill, but compact enough to not feel like a killer’s weapon.
She has developed good cooking and nursing skills, and even though they rarely have any medicine, she can improvise stitches and patches with very little material, one of the very few things she got out of The New Frontier, as she sometimes watched Dr. Lingard work when he was not drugged.
Sarah and Duck become polar opposite influences on AJ. Duck would be in favor of teaching him to preserve his own life at all costs, never hesitate, and justify his actions. Sarah, on the other hand, has never been supportive of violence and would stand by thinking before acting, and only resorting to killing when absolutely necessary. This polar dynamic would affect either of them after AJ pulled the trigger on Marlon at the school’s yard, depending on Clementine’s choice to teach AJ to justify or regret his actions.
At Ericson, Sarah wouldn’t talk much to the rest of the kids, and would rather stay on her own as she usually did. She would be very interested in bonding with Ruby, as she also shared the passion for nursing, but would be very intimidated by her attitude at first. Clementine would help her befriend Ruby, who she soon realizes to be really nice and sweet.
Duck wouldn’t get along with anyone at first, mostly because he’s very cold and shut to anyone else except Sarah, Clem and AJ. Clem could also help him make friends, even though it wouldn’t work out well at first. He’d be very dismissive of others’ attempts to befriend him, for the most part.
Duck would absolutely hate Louis at first glance. From the moment he started serenating Clementine, he knew he’d hate that guy’s guts.
Louis does his best to earn Duck’s respect. They’re eventually sent on a hunting party together, and Louis compliments his skills with the rifle, dissing Aasim’s “old fashioned grandma bow” and telling him to grade up. Duck chuckles and compliments him in return on the traps he’d built around the forest, but trying to keep it very lowkey. They eventually become good friends, after a short while.
He’d be very fond of Mitch and Willy. Willy reminded him of himself when he was young. and Mitch’s knife skills catched his eyes almost instantly.
Duck would love Rosie. He had a dog a little before the apocalypse started, which he loved beyond belief. Seeing a friendly dog again after so long made him instantly love her.

9x11: Details Part 2 + My Wacky Carzekiel Theory
Okay, welcome to Details, part 2. I’ll mostly talk about Carol and Ezekiel stuff in this post, but trust me there are a lot of Beth ties. For I’ll talk about the details I saw in the episode. Then I’m gonna throw out kind of wacky theory I’ve had swirling around my head lately. Let's get started.
So Ezekiel and the Kingdom go on an elk hunt. Obviously, the deer reference is important because of the Deer Theory.
Tumblr media
I noticed that when he's first talking to Diane, she says there's about 100 elk in the herd. That stuck out to me because 100 is a number we've heard before. I don't think we've heard it for a while, but I concluded some time ago that it represented the path home to TF. So, one hundred elk is kind of interesting. Diane says that there are 200 walkers coming in. They have about six hours to get to the elk before the walkers do. Both the elk and the walkers were headed to a place called Falls Church. I don't know if Falls Church is important, but they give the name, so I figured it was worth noting.
We don't see the hunt but we do see that they get some elk. Now, having dead deer in the shot suggests someone getting hurt but surviving (Deer Theory). It could be Beth, but I have a theory about what else this might be about. I'll come back to it.
Tumblr media
It also occurred to me that this is the second time Carol has been heavily associated with deer. Back in in S4, she was associated with them because of Lizzie and Mica. But also remember that she told Tyreese's Ed’s stupid hunting joke. The one about beer nuts vs. deer nuts. The punchline was, "deer nuts are just under a buck." So, she was specifically associated with large, male deer (bucks) in that episode. I suppose seeing the big antlers just made me think of that.
I never realized it before, but there weren't any bucks around Lizzie and Mica. The deer she tried to get Mica to shoot, which is standing there after she shoots Lizzie, is either a baby deer or small female.
Tumblr media
It would make sense for it to be a baby, since Lizzie and Mica were children. So again, just pointing out that Carol has been associated with this before, and I think that's important. Again, I’ll come back to them.
Let's have a comedy appreciation moment for Zeke and Jerry in this episode. Zeke tries to trick Carol out of going to the theater. Guy has no poker face. And of course there was Jerry. Between his goofy grin and his lip-synching, he kept me very entertained this episode. 😉
Tumblr media
They’re after a projector bulb, which is a light bulb. It occurred to me it's it really is a type of lamp. Often the bulbs in projectors are referred to as lamps. So, we can connect this to the Lamp Theory.
They also say the phrase “cobra strike” over and over again. Snake reference, which we always relate back to Still.
Tumblr media
Ezekiel also talks about “bringing cinema back from the dead." Sounds like a resurrection reference to me.
The movie theater reminded me very much of the Big Spot. There was the lighting, of course, but we see that lighting in many places. Just the dim interior with the much brighter exterior. Still, any place to go with those lighting reminds me of Grady and I relate it back to Beth.
Diane mentions a whole bunch of tubs of butter-flavored coconut oil. That stuck out as odd to me because it was unnecessary. Yeah, maybe you'd find something like that in a movie theater, but it wasn't like they needed that detail to establish this is a movie theater. She’s very specific about what it was, heavily drawing attention to it.
Besides, in my experience, butter flavored coconut oil is not what’s a general used in movie theaters. They used a synthetic form of butter for the popcorn to be sure, but coconut oil is actually an expensive product. A movie theater probably wouldn't have it stockpiled. So, I’m not even sure this is particularly accurate. Maybe some theaters do it, and it’s possible, but most wouldn’t. They’d want to be more cost effective than that.
I looked up symbolism for it, and I don't see any symbolism specifically for coconut oil, just for coconuts. But I figure it's all the same since the oil comes from the coconuts. Coconuts have symbolism in many different cultures and places, but it almost always represents healing and regeneration. So again, this could be a Beth/resurrection thing, but also might just point to the fair and how they're hoping it will heal the communities.
Okay, let's get to the good stuff.
Tumblr media
We see a walker with three deep gouges in its head. Jerry kills it. He does so by sticking his sword upward through its chin and face.
Tumblr media
That really jumped out at me because at the Big Spot, Sasha killed a walker in exactly the same way.
Tumblr media
The only reason I remember that is because Sonequa really liked that kill. She said it was the coolest kill Sasha had ever had, and she really enjoyed doing it. So, when I saw Jerry doing that, I knew they were paralleling this with the Big Spot.
And why do that? Again, I’ll go into it with my theory, but if nothing else, it’s yet another callback to S4 among many this season, and there must be a reason for it. The Big Spot was in 4x01, after all, which also includes the Bethyl hug and was the beginning of Beth’s arc.
There's a huge wheel on the popcorn cart.
Tumblr media
It just caught my attention because we see wheels a lot on bikes and such. Whenever I see a big wheel like that, the thing it reminds me most of is this wheel that we saw in 6x02, when the wolves showed up. Just saying.
Tumblr media
We later find out scratches on the head of the walker Jerry killed came from crawling underneath the popcorn cart. In a very disgusting sequence, we see another walker do it. It took me a couple of times of looking at it to realize there's a pitchfork sticking down through the popcorn cart.
Tumblr media
So, it's not the cart itself they’re being cut on. It's the pitchfork that's leaving with three gouges in the four head.
We're not sure what the pitchfork represents, but it's important to note that we do see a pitchfork in the opening credits, now that they’ve changed this season.
Tumblr media
It's probably an important symbol. The biggest thing is that it can represent farming and that always leads us back to Herschel's ranch. It can also represent the devil, or a mob mentality (think walkers in general).
Tumblr media
More importantly, we see a light-haired walker crawl under the popcorn cart. It looks female, with long, light hair, so sort of like one of the blond, Beth walkers. In a thoroughly disgusting sequence, it not only gets the gouges we saw in the earlier walker, it actually loses the top of its head.
Tumblr media
That’s really interesting because the part of its head that it losses is the very tip top, the crown. In other words, right where Beth was shot.
So I was thinking that the pitch fork representing something negative (the devil, evil, mob mentality, etc.) could work as well because S5, when Beth disappeared is the bad stuff, and we think she disappeared in a horde of walkers. Just really interesting the way they do this symbolism.
Tumblr media
I had to laugh when Jerry took the bulb out, talking about how he had to be careful. He actually used the line, "this is going to be surgery." What you mean, Jerry? Surgery like…Grady? Like Dr. Edwards? Like Beth is coming back? Like you know she's gonna be here soon? 😆😉
Okay, next one’s huge. When Zeke gets his poster box and Carol goes to help them, I noticed a poster hanging on the wall in the background. It's very difficult to see because it's washed out. I did my best to mess with the lighting so that it's easier to see what's on the poster.
Tumblr media
I’m fairly sure there's a woman getting piggyback from a man. We don't see the full-body picture of it, but if you look at the white streak on the left side, that's her arm and it looks like she's slightly above him and has her arms wrapped around him from behind.
I was still a little unsure about what I was seeing when I noticed that Carol said something interesting to Ezekiel. She says, "You were serious before..." Yeah, guys, this is the representation of a “serious” piggyback.
Tumblr media
Now, the interesting thing is that we've seen this before with Carol. Back in S7, she read the book that had the piggyback on the cover.
Tumblr media
This is super interesting to me because it proves that this wasn't just about her meeting Ezekiel. Back then, I don't know if anyone did, but people could theoretically have argued that maybe it just showed that she was going to meet her soulmate, just as Beth and Daryl were soulmates. If that's all it meant, then we couldn't really point to it in a way that suggested Beth was returning.
Now, none of us serious (Sirius) TDers actually bought into that argument. Because it's a serious (Sirius) piggyback and Sirius is the dog star that always returns, we knew there was more to it. This proves that it couldn't have just been about Carol meeting Ezekiel because at this point (in S9) they’re already together. It's unnecessary to show the symbol again. So why is it showing it? Again, bear with me. I have a theory.
The other interesting thing to me, as far as the plot of the show goes, was that Carol suggested asking Hilltop to take them in if things got worse.
Tumblr media
I know about you guys, but I didn't realize things were that bad the Kingdom. We saw that things were kind of falling apart in 9x06 when Jerry and Henry were trying to tape up a water pipe, but it sounds like their home is really falling apart and they are going to need to find a new place to live. Not sure what that's leading to, but it's interesting.
One of the Kingdom guys comes in to tell Ezekiel the boombox has died. Really? As in the music just died?
And then when Jerry drops the light, he dropped down some sort of chute. We don't get a very clear view of it, but it reminded us a lot of the elevator shaft at Grady.
Tumblr media
And remember, if Beth is the lamp, we had it being dropped down an elevator-shaft-like chute, just as Beth went down the elevator shaft, and then one of the Kingdomers comes to tell Zeke the music has died. Just saying.
At one point, Ezekiel suggests, "maybe were done losing for a while."
*Shakes head* Zeke, Zeke. Haven't you learned yet? You on TWD. You’re never done losing stuff.
Okay I think that's all the stuff that I noticed.
Now for my wacky theory.
Okay, so here's the thing. One thing I didn't mention was that the very first shot we get of this episode is a 10:10 clock.
Tumblr media
(Okay, technically, it's a 9:10 clock, but the shape of it is the same as the one that hung on the wall in Beth’s room at Grady.) And remember per THIS POST, watch manufacturers often set their watches to that time because it represents something specific.
According to legend, it's the exact time at which various historical figures and leaders were assassinated. Whether that's true or not is up for debate, but that's the legend of it. In other words, having that clock on Beth's wall isn't actually a resurrection symbol. It was just a foreshadow of her getting shot and TF believing she’s dead.
Then there’s the 8:20 clocks, which are a perfect mirror of the 10:10 clock represent the opposite thing. So, if the 10:10 clock represents death, then the 8:20 clock represents resurrection.
I think one of the best proofs we have of this theory is the fact that we saw the 8:20 clock around Rick in Carl's vision of the future.
Tumblr media
As far as Michonne, Carol, Daryl, and Judith are concerned, that vision can't possibly come to pass in the way Carl wanted, because Rick is dead. Or so they think. I think the 8:20 clock was there to show that, in TF’s eyes, Rick will be resurrected, and that future will come to pass.
And now, we have this 10:10 clock in the first scene with Ezekiel. My first thought was that it represented that someone's going to die. I'd love to believe that it's just Jesus, since we know we already lost him, but honestly probably not. It would be an unnecessarily symbol, which TWD never does. And remember that callbacks always double as foreshadows. So, it must apply to someone else. I started wondering who it could be, and went through everyone in the scene before realizing the answer was right in front of me. It's Ezekiel's watch. It's on his wrist. So, it probably applies to him.
Now here's the thing. (Bringing together a whole bunch of variables, here.) About a week ago, a bunch of articles came out implying that Ezekiel was going to die soon. Probably not until season 10, but we’ll still be losing him soon. I was disappointed to hear that. I maintain that he probably won't get his comic book, death, and that someone else (you know who if you’ve read spoilers) will be getting his comic book death. Of course, just because he doesn't get his comic book death doesn't mean he's not going to die. That hasn't been the case for any of the characters. But I'd simply hoped that we could keep Zeke around for a little longer.
But the more I think about it, the more suspicious I am with how they're dealing with this. This idea of Ezekiel’s impending death wasn’t leaked by the spoiler site. It's being said by the clickbait sites, which many of us believe are informed by AMC. Of course this isn’t something AMC has officially confirmed or anything, and they won’t, but these sites get info from “sources close to the show,” so it feels like AMC is preparing us for Ezekiel’s death.
Why would they release something about Ezekiel's death? Putting the spoiler site aside, this isn’t something AMC ever does.
There been several times that we've been able to guess the character was going to die (again, outside of spoilers). For example, with Sonequa Martin-Greene and Chad Coleman, they both got jobs at other networks that were announced. AMC can't do anything about that, and so because they were leaving the show, it was obvious that they would be dying on TWD. (A similar thing is happening with Sydney Park right now.) But those are outside influences. AMC does their best to hide character deaths, not talk about them a year before they happen.
So here’s what I’m getting at. They have released information about official character deaths exactly 2 times: with Beth and Rick. One of those characters we know is alive because he left them a helicopter with Jadis, and the other one was believed and have been saying is alive for five seasons and the powers that be have never actually looked us in the eye and denied it.
With Beth, AMC tried to say their “leak” of her death was accidental, but we’ve never believed that. With Rick, it turned out to be a bald-faced lie. SO many articles (same sites now talking about Zeke) talked about Rick’s death because Andrew wanted to leave. It was mostly true, but he didn’t actually die at all, now did he?
Furthermore, even though this clock represents death, it's not like we've seen it around every character who’s died. In fact, the only one I can think of (please correct me if I’ve forgotten an instance) is around Beth.
Tumblr media
So, Ezekiel is being paralleled with Beth here. Then we have Carol and the serious piggyback ride, which is obviously parallel to Beth and Daryl. And we have the fact that in 9x01, Ezekiel fell through the floor, looking exactly like the walker from 4x01, and nearly died. He was saved, of course, and Carol was relieved. That’s an awful lot like what happened with Richonne in 7x12, which foreshadowed Rick’s death fake out.
I think Ezekiel's "death," whatever it ends up being is going to be a fake out. I think that's what this is leading to. When Carol first met Ezekiel, we saw the serious piggyback ride because at that point, the relationship really could be heavily paralleled with Beth and Daryl’s. At that point, they weren’t actually in a romantic relationship yet. Carol and Ezekiel were just getting to know one another, like Bethyl when their serious piggyback happened.
Now were seeing it again, as though to remind us, and it's coming in the same episode in which we saw a death omen for Ezekiel in his watch.
Think back over everything else I said above: the serious piggyback, the snake references, the parallels to the light falling down the chute, the music dying, him falling through the floor in 9x06, even the deer. It could be there to represent that, like Beth, Ezekiel will be presumed dead and yet be alive. And I don't know if this will be a death fake out for us, the audience, like Beth was, or more of a Rick thing, but at the very least I believe Carol will think he's dead.
Even the Big Spot parallels work here. Big Spot happened in S4 and Beth disappeared in S5. This happening now in S9, and they’re suggesting we’ll “lose” Ezekiel in S10.
Also remember that, between Carol and Ezekiel, Ezekiel represents Beth (the dreamer, the optimist, has faith, etc) while Carol is just like Daryl (more prone to negativity and practicality). So paralleling Zeke with Beth and repeating this arc in exactly this way makes perfect sense.
Tumblr media
Now, I also want to add that, while saying all this may make it seem like all the symbols I named in this episode don’t actually point to Beth. Please know that I don’t think that at all. While I DO think they point at a coming arc for Carzekiel, remember, once again, that Rick is alive. Seeing these symbols, even just as foreshadows of this arc being repeated with another character, makes me believe more than ever that Beth will be returning, and soon. These symbols are alive and well because these resurrection arcs are still very much in play.
So that's my first wacky Ezekiel Theory. That Ezekiel isn't actually going to die, but that it will be another fake out of some kind. A repeat of Beth and Daryl’s arc.
The thing is guys, my theory is really a lot bigger than this. I need to talk about Carol vs. Alpha, because things are coming together over many seasons for me, and I’m seeing some interesting patterns. I feel strongly that the Carol/Alpha dynamic is and always was going to lead to Beth’s emergence, and I can tie it in to what I’ve said here about Ezekiel, but it’s a sprawling theory and I need to look over some previous episodes and check a few things, so I’m not sure when this theory will be finished. I’ll try to get it out to you by the weekend. No promises, though. ;D
