No seriously, I gained quite a few followers during my Wenclair Era, and don’t get me wrong I still adore Wenclair to absolute pieces, but RWBY has been a special hyperfixation of mine fer YEARS. It’s been an interest that hibernates on and off during hiatuses but nothing has ever latched onto my psyche so deeply as RWBY has with all of its faults and good parts alike. Trees from Tolkien’s Canon (A-H)

short detour from darker/Narn writing for a nature reference! Trees are beloved to Tolkien and his forests are some of the most important and beautifully described regions throughout his writing. This is a reference for trees mentioned in Tolkien's writing with information on where they grow when applicable.

I also included the names in elven languages where applicable!

Note: I will do shrubs and smaller trees in a different post so I didn't cover hazel or hawthorn here. I've also already made a post about the Fragrant Trees (though I want to do more speculation on them).

flora, fauna, geography and environment of arda

Alders "As he drew near, the carrion birds rose from the ground and sat in the alder trees beside Tarn Aeulin". Alders are a genus in the birch family of deciduous trees that commonly grow near water. In their few Legendarium references, they are indeed almost always found by rivers and lakes. The quote above from The Silmarillion regarding Beren's discovery of the deaths of his father and his men takes place in the highlands of Dorthonion. They are also referenced as growing by a stream West of Hobbiton in The Lord of the Rings and are mentioned by Tom Bombadil who says "fear no alder black!".

There are several words in earlier languages for alder, namely, ulwe in Early Quenya which means alder tree.

Apples Apples, and specifically crabapples or wild apples are referenced a few times in The Lord of the Rings. They are first mentioned in Bilbo’s walking song and orchard apples are later mentioned by Sam in reference to the fruit him and Frodo were given by the elves of Woodyend. They are cultivated throughout Middle Earth in the third age and are grown in Gondor and other human realms.

orva in early and neo Quenya means apple and arwad in Gnomish (proto Noldorin) means apple tree.

Ashes Ashes, deciduous trees in the olive family, are referenced several times in The Lord of the Rings, namely as materials for spears (the riders of Rohan) or staffs (Gandalf). They are also said to grow in Fangorn where there are ash tree ents. Most words for ash seem to refer to rowan or mountain ash but soros in Gnomish might refer to ash trees in general.

Bay Bay trees (in the Laurel family) are referenced once in association with Ithilien. Sam collects bay leaves for a meal.

Beech: Beech trees are some of the most commonly referenced trees. They grow by the gates of the palace of the Elvenking in Mirkwood. They grow also in Ithilien where they are noticed by Sam after his rescue by the eagles. In The Silmarillion, the forest of Neldoreth, part of Doriath, is a beechwood and in the tallest of these trees was Lúthien imprisoned. Brethil forest also contains beeches. Neldor means beech in Sindarin and feren in middle Quenya. There are also various older, Telerin and Ilkorin words.

Birch: Brethil means silver birch and the forest of Brethil, the woods where the Haladin dwelt west of Doriath, was full of them. As was the forest of Nimbrethil located near the havens of Sirion. The ship of Eärendil was made from wood of this forest. They also grow in Dorthonion, around Tarn Aeulin and near the house of Mîm Southwest of Brethil forest. In The Lord of the Rings, they grow in the Shire and in Fangorn forest where once more, there are birch tree ents.

Cedars Like bay trees and several other species, namely cypress, olive and terebinth, cedars are mentioned only once, told to grow in Ithilien.

Ebony Ebony is mentioned only once and in the poem by Bilbo about Eärendil where it is said his arrows were cut from ebony.

Elms Elms are mentioned by Bilbo in The Hobbit where he describes seeing landscapes scattered by oak and elm when carried by the eagles. Legolas laments the peace he will no longer find under beech or elm at Pelagir when he hears the cries of the gulls and Pippin sees elm trees growing along the Stock Brook. In The Silmarillion and The Lays, Thingol is described as the king of 'beech, oak and elm' and there is a forest of elms in Southern Ossiriand.

Firs Firs are some of the most common conifer trees in Tolkien's writing. They grow in the Green Hills near Hobbiton, by the trollshaws, throughout the Misty Mountains and Southern Mirkwood, Fangorn, and in the woods of Dunharrow south of Edoras as well as near the entrance to the path of the dead. Though they are not referenced as much in The Silmarillion, they grow in the Ered Luin's foothills by the spring Thalos, as well as elsewhere in Beleriand though not specified. Firs are notably associated with darker locations, likely due to the dense and dark nature of firwoods.

Holly: the forest Region in Doriath where Menengroth was located was a forest full of Holly trees. They were also found near the house of Mîm in Beleriand. The kingdom of Eregion in the Second Age was also associated with them. They notably grow by the gates of Moria and in the Ered Luin. region is the Sindarin word for holly

Horse Chestnuts Horse chestnuts grow in Fangorn forest and the three hunters camp one night under a large one. One can also see them in Tolkien's illustrations of Hobbiton. They are mentioned in the Lays to grow in Doriath where Lúthien dances to the song of Daeron beneath them.

I've been struggling with my LGBTQIA+ identity lately, and I need some help. I'm genderfluid, my gender changes frequently, mainly encompassing men, women, non-binary/gender-neutral, and agender/gendervoid. I'm transmasculine, presenting androgynously. I prefer gender-neutral titles like Mx. over Mrs. or Mr. I like he/they, I have some dysphoria with feminine pronouns, so I use them less. I like neopronouns but don't use them much since most people IRL aren't familiar with them.

I'm having an identity crisis that was caused from stress from school and work. So, I'm like re-inventing my identity. I need name ideas. The individual is genderfluid, preferring gender-neutral names. I'm passionate about social justice, inclusivity, and personal growth. I have diverse identities and academic pursuits, expressing creativity, intellect, and empathy through fanfic writing. I value knowledge and aspire to be a nurse. Any name ideas?

Rejoice, DP x Submas crossover be upon ye! I'm calling it Ghost Train au because that's how Ingo and Akari get home.

The distortion world is just pokemon ghost zone and Akari and Ingo became halfas when they got eeby deebied.

Ingo's obsession is conducting and safety, but he can fulfill it well enough with his "guiding travellers on Coronet" job to survive, even if he isn't at full power. Akari, who is actually Rowan's assistant Dawn instead of the dppt protag Dawn, has an obsession with caring for and studying pokemon. Helping Laventon with the Pokedex and helping out at the pasture are right up her alley.

Feel free to ask questions, I spent all day monday brainstorming in discord and I have sooo many details. I love how many people there are also dp fans, I'm living.

I've been thinking about paper lantern au a bit for reasons, so i realized I never drew what Ingo looks like when he gets home!

Poor guy has to do his PT before he can get back on the trains... But hey, he gets a neat custom chandelure-themed staff to hang his lantern up on.

Just when i think the hyperfixation is fading, i start a complex piece for my most niche au yet... Anyways i just really like the image of Ingo riding a ghost train through the Distortion World. This composition has been rattling around in my brain since I made the au.

St. Elmo's Fire is playing through the loudspeakers on blast. It's somehow not as loud as Ingo himself.

The Nimbasa City police department gets a call from Gear Station about a Neo Plasma invasion. It makes sense. Subway Boss Ingo is missing and Subway Boss Emmet has been on vacation searching for him for a while. Little Bean No3 made it through last night. So just keep thinking good thoughts and cheering for another day.

We had to drive four hours up to North Carolina last night to get him the care he needed. The person who’s seeing to his round the clock care works for Carolina Sanctuary and Rescue. (they’re also in Kentucky if you’re curious). I’ve put their Facebook link and their Amazon wishlist down below.

Currently the little dude is intubated (pneumonia), getting hourly feedings and a round of antibiotics, and they’re keeping him in an incubator. He’s very wiggly and very hungry, which is good. As long as he keeps fighting, we are going to do our best (and especially CSaR).

We are paying them to help, and we are also making some donations in materials to them. Right now Carolina Sanctuary and Rescue are in need of a lot of assistance and donations - we were very lucky they had any of the necessary supplies on hand (there’s a reason we had to drive 4 hours to get emergency care).

I would ask that if you are able, to check out their wishlist or their Facebook page. I want to thank them as best I can for everything they’ve done for us and for the Little Bean. I wish I had more words to express how bone deep our gratitude is for their compassion and willingness to help when no one else could and when no one else responded to our calls.

His current caretaker, who has a lot of experience with premie and neo-natal care and tube feeding, has been calling him Gideon (we’ve been calling him Jim).

i stand by that shes in a qpr with jedidiah . anyway i think they have a similar build and an adjacent gender presentation so they swap clothes sometimes . juniper is a lot FANCIER but they do look good in some of the same colors so juniper usually just spruces the ones she gets from jedidiah up a bit . she “generously” offers jeddy her dress with the union jack emblazoned all over it and hes like …… no its ok thank u 

juniper is VERY much not out at home i think i get the vibe that she hides a LOT from her dad and i think that being trans would Definitely fall under that . its part of why she really enjoys going to camp and spending time with rowan because she can be out there and be more comfortable with the way she presents

i think shes Known that shes trans for a whle but its something shes closeted about for the above reasons shes Very Avoidant so shes like . i can just push that down forever and ever and never transition and it wont be an issue <3 cheers! but being so close to rowan kind of opens her up to the idea more and makes it so they can kind of realize that . yes it will be hard . but she deserves that joy in her life . which is good for her i think shes a lot happier and less stressed

JOSHUA!!!! i hc as transfem nonbinary theyre a they/them girl. an alpha female if you will . theyre DEEPLY DEEPLY DEEPLY IN THE CLOSET THOUGH theyre more repressed than JEDIDIAH which says smt . i think part of the whole alpha male manosphere thing is a way of avoiding coming to terms with being trans its about a lot of things but thats one of them . the vibes ive always gotten from them is that their family is pretty shitty and gave them a lot of insecurities and hangups about masculinity so i think thats lead to a LOT of internalized transphobia 

BUT!!!!! THEY WORK IT OUT!!!!!!! being friends with yvonne sort of opens them up to the idea more and they slowly leave that whole alpha male mindset which leaves them more open to try out new things including experimenting with their gender which they find really nice

i think they like to present as like . a Masculine Girl . like they dress the same way but they grow their hair out and go on e and start voice training . they do wear more fen clothes SOMETIMES like for special occasions they like to wear fancy dresses and shit . but i think largely the way they dress stays the same it doesnt change in the way it does for jedidiah and juniper . its just their physical features that they adjust 

i think them and yvonne bond a lot over being trans they were already really close friends . but joshua coming out gives them another thing to bond over and brings them even closer which is really nice for them (: it also helps joshua chill out a bit because expressing yourself is relaxing so their dynamic is a lot easier and calm
