Kaiba snapping at him was met with a slight raise of his eyebrows but otherwise Yugi remained unfazed. He didn't take it personally. Besides, over time, he had gotten used to the curt way of interacting with people Kaiba often seemed to default to if something didn't go exactly as he liked. Still, none of that meant he was going to allow Kaiba to brush him aside entirely.

"I didn't exactly come here for that either." Yugi countered lightly.

Fork and knife were placed down next to his plate before he softened his tone just a tad and continued. "But I won't keep you if you want to go home and get some rest." he paused to glance away. "I know how exhausting nightmares can be."

He’s a little late to the party, figuratively speaking of course (Seto Kaiba isn’t really the “party” type). But he is late—he meant to leave an hour ago. But he’s home know, knocking on his brothers bedroom door. Box in hand.

Mokuba didn’t expect anything. It was another late night at the office and he decided to leave early, but his brother just stayed working... He rubbed the sleepiness out of his eyes and opened the door. “Seto?”

Kaiba snapping wasn't half a scary as the situation they were in was. Thick black smoke rolled in through every crack it could find, needling his eyes and lungs with merciless ferocity, the rubble surrounding them doing little to protect them skin from the scourging heat blistering their skin.

No, compared to that the other's annoyance was way, way less intimidating.

Yugi didn't budge, eyes wide and serious, imploring.

"Kaiba, I can't let you hurt yourself like this."

His hand stayed on Kaiba's wrist, ready to pull the other's arm across his shoulders so he could become a human crutch and drag him out, one way or another. The touch was gentle. But gentle doesn't equal meek. Yugi had his own brand of firmness. Perhaps it wasn't as blazing hot, fiery, as the Pharoah who he used to share a body with had been, but it was just as fierce.

"We're leaving here together!"

Yugi was woken up too early in the morning by a phone call. The owner of the store he managed was frantically telling him to get up and go to the store. "What's going on?" he asked sleepily. His boss told him that a very important person would be making a stop before opening hours. Yugi groaned and agreed to come in. He made it there an hour and a half before he was supposed to and let himself in. Atem was still sleeping in his mind, but groggily woke up to appear beside him, rubbing his eyes. The lights were already on and Yugi frowned. "Is anyone here?"

She crosses her legs and taps one foot impatiently at the way he holds the card just out of her reach. Business proposition or not, Mai intends to enjoy this as fully as possible. It wasn't every day that she got the opportunity to go on a shopping spree and spend an evening mingling with the elite of the gaming industry--all on Seto Kaiba's dime. Her mind is already running through what she'll need to buy for tonight, and she'll spare no expense.

"Well, thanks for the appropriate compensatory arrangement, hon," she practically purrs. Her fingers curl around the card now sitting in her palm, and she stands. "I'll see you tonight."

As much as Mai loves being fashionably late to a party, tonight isn't the night for that. She returns to KaibaCorp just after six o'clock and makes her way back to Kaiba's office, earning a few curious glances along the way. She tosses her hair and smirks to herself; the pale lavender gown she bought this afternoon (for an exorbitant sum of money) is quite striking, and she knows it. Rapping her knuckles against the doorframe, she steps into the office. "Well?" She turns once on the spot. "How do I look?"

She manages to compose her features into a more serious expression. There’s nothing to be gained by making Kaiba angry, and he doesn’t seem embarrassed (which would have at least been amusing). Mai tilts her chin up and meets his gaze. “You know, I think I heard a compliment buried somewhere in there.” Not that having the distinction of being the only socially functional woman Kaiba knows is particularly flattering, but it’s something.

As he continues, though, she can’t help seeing his point. It’s true that she still makes most of her living from the gaming industry in one way or another, and more contacts are always useful. Mai crosses her arms over her chest. “Of course I see the value.” Her eyes glitter as he pulls out the card. Oh, she definitely saw the value. “Is this bribery?” she asks with a grin. “You know just how to get to a woman’s heart, Kaiba.”

Mai holds out a well-manicured hand, palm facing up. “I think I may have to take you up on this offer.”
