Prompt 21: Crunch

The last hour is the worst. It seems as if, in the moments leading up to a deadline, two dozen pressing issues have a tendency of appearing out of thin air. Lhyra is convinced that all of existence is against her. A mere two bells remain until she has to submit her field report to the presiding chair of the department and already she’s had to handle one emergency after the other.

The moment she finally gets a weeping graduate student to leave her office, a freshman comes trotting in with a past due assignment, their excuses already bubbling up and sounding like a very long story. Lhyra yanks the papers out of their hands, which thankfully silences the lad. “I’ll grade it,” Lhyra growls, “now get out.”

She follows him to the door, bellowing out of it, “Office hours are OVER, now fuck off!”

“Professor Galeni!” Comes a scandalized shout from a neighboring office.

She ignores it, as always, and stalks back to her desk, fetching up her pen and getting back to work.

Prompt 18: Wilt

Lhyra Galeni rips her aetherscope off and whirls at her assistant, glaring daggers up at the elezen man, “How is this possible?”

She has to crane her neck to look up at him, but even with the difference in their heights, he still takes a half-step back from her, his hands raised defensively, “I don’t know!” He says, hurried, gesturing to the wilting vegetation, “I’ve checked the calibration on every scope, there’s no mistake, professor, but we don’t know what’s causing this.”

Her grip tightens on the scope’s strap and she closes her eyes, counts backwards from ten, “Alert the others, take soil samples, vegetation samples, and if there is fauna, capture samples. Pack it up, we’ll be returning to the lab. I have correspondences to write.”

The moment in a d&d session when both you and your character align so perfectly that when you panic at another character getting possessed (DESPITE IT BEING THE PLAN), it’s 100% in character when you pin her against the wall with the intent of tying her up and completely forgetting the rest of the plan until another character comes up like uhhhhhh…..wasn’t that supported to happen?
